Liberal economists questioned the costs and the benefits of having them, but the armed forces, the
merchants and missionaries wanted colonies for their own respective interests. Colonisation was
right from the start, marked by ambiguity on the one hand, colonies were there to be exploited
but on the other hand, this was construed as not only materially beneficial for the colonies, but a
moral responsibility of Europe. Colonisation assumed the promise of worldwide civilisation for
all and a unity of interest between the metropole and the colony. It had economic philanthropic
and political dimensions and those who wanted colonies argued that the development of a nation
was like the successive stages of human life, making colonisation appear natural and inevitable as
well as a duty. This was the state of affairs at the end of world war I in 1918 when there was a
major redistribution of power and Germany lost its colonies in favour of Britain and France . The
developed countries are also faced with challenges such as prostitution, drug abuse and high crime
rate. The high the standard of living the more problems accumulate.

Importance Of Conformity In The Film Not Without My...
When we conform we belong, when we rebel we doubt. Two sides to the spectrum. Two paths to
figure out. An hour, a minute, a split second... What path will you choose? Will you choose to
take a risk and stand out? Or doubt yourself and conform to society s norms? Or will you even have
a choice.
Good morning Year 11, I was asked to join you here today to discuss conformityand its presence in
the brilliant film; Not Without My Daughter , directed by Brain Gilbert. The movie was adapted
from the true story based on Betty Mahmoody s experience. The plot pivots on a sinister
manipulation: Iranian American husband Moody , convinces his American wife, Betty, to travel
with him and their daughter, Mahtob, for a vacation in Iran, promising to safely return to their
Michigan home two weeks later. However, once there, in the male dominated country of Iran, his
personality shifts dramatically. He dedicates himself to his religion and his country, revealing his
true intentions for them to stay in Iran for good. He steals Betty s freedom and forces her to stay
in Iran, while progressively becoming more physically abusive toward Betty as she resists. What
would you do if you were in Betty s shoes?
Conformity can either satisfy the natural human need for social interaction or establish barriers that
lead to isolation. Personal circumstances and choices to either conform or rebel dictate the direction
one ends up going. The movie Not Without My Daughter clearly exemplifies this through

1. Bismarck s foreign policy was entirely based on preserving his power and Germany s throughout
Europe. After 1870 he was against the idea of expanding Germany and believed that the country
was satiated. Instead, Bismarck wanted to keep the peace among European countries rather than
engaging in war, therefore keeping Germany safe from attack. He planned to do this through the
use of gaining european alliances which included Austria Hungary, Italy, and Russia. Believing that
France would remain Germany s enemy because of the annexation of Alsace Lorraine, an action he
had opposed because of the enmity it would cause, he left France isolated (Germany ... Show more

In contrast to Bismarck, Kaiser believed that in order to keep Germany in power and prevent them
from defeat he had to build and strengthen a navy as strong as, if not stronger than England s. In all,
Kaiser s end goal was to make Germany the strongest country in power out of Europe, whereas
Bismarck was content with having good relations with different European countries but also
maintaining his own power throughout the land that he owned.
Bismarck s decisions and policy effected the first World War when he used a series of conflicts to
bring Germany together but also create several enemies. One of these enemies being France
played a big part in World War Ilater because Germany took the former French territory of
Alsace Lorraine. This conflict that took place during the time of Bismarck s reign gave France a
motive to fight against Germany. Wilhelm on the other hand played a far bigger role in the war.
Because of a quarrel amongst Serbia and Germany, he asked Austria Hungary to attack Serbia and
thus pulling Britain, France, and Russia into the war ( Firstworldwar ). his aggressive tactics and
need for power created many enemies and caused the German Empire to lose a lot of power leading
up to the war.

The Social Media Of Adidas
Adidas was founded in the early years of 1924, at that time it bared the name Gebruder Dassler
Schuhfabrik. Its founder was named Adolf Dassler he was a German by origin. The company
mainly dealt with the design and manufacture of sporting shoes, clothing and accessories. Adidas
is the largest company in Europe. It has companies under it, these companies are: Reebok,
Taylor made Adidas Golf Company, a piece of Bayern Munich and Runstatic. Adidas mainly
uses social media for marketing purposes as every other big brand, company and small
entrepreneurs do. What brings the difference in how known Adidas is than other companies is
how they go about their social media marketing. Adidas seems to have done some a lot of
research on how and where to fetch their customers. An example is how they are excelling in
Facebook; Adidas has about 13 million fans. Using these platforms they give their fans
information about their products and an easy way to purchase any of their items. Adidas also
catches the eye of their followers on instagram by uploading graphics that attract their customers
to want to buy their products. These graphics are like shoes that have been well photographed and
edited, what else can a buyer look for; Adidas ensure all eyes are on them. Adidas has a department
that specifically deals with the social media details. The department is... Show more content on

Cpr Reform
With an increasing number of people attending CPR classes, many of them wonder about
whether they can be held liable if a person they help receives injuries from emergency medical
care. It is certainly a plausible concern, as broken ribs are a common occurrence. Anytime CPR
is performed, there is essentially a 50/50 chance that it will result in a broken bone. Why Do
Broken Bones Happen? The very nature of CPR creates conditions that are favorable to the
development of broken ribs. The rescuer has to place the heel of his hand on the victim s chest and
press down at least two inches thirty times for each round of chest compressions. That comes out to
about a hundred compressions per minute. Not surprisingly, broken ribs can be expected.... Show

has Good Samaritan laws in place. The specifics may vary a bit depending on what state hears
the case, but the basic general protections are all the same. No one who offers emergency care in
good faith can be held legally liable for any physical injuries or other damages that occur because
of their actions. It is worth noting that a few states have a narrower view and only apply these
laws to medical professionals, thereby excluding volunteers. Most states also exclude blatant
willful or negligent misconduct from legal protection. Gross Negligence A lawsuit against a
rescuer who performed CPR and broke a few ribs will only hold up in court if gross negligence
can be proven. Something must have been done right if the victim is alive to complain about the
injury, so it will be very difficult to demonstrate negligent behavior on the part of the rescuer,
even if he or she has no formal training. On that note, there has never been a successful lawsuit
against a rescuer performing CPR that resulted in broken ribs. If it is discovered that the victim
does not wish to have CPR in the event of an emergency, his wishes should be respected.
Otherwise, as long as the rescuer s actions are reasonable in the circumstances, there is generally
no reason to fear a lawsuit if a victim is injured during

P1 Meaning of Public Health: Public health is concerned with improving the health of population,
rather than treating the diseases of individual patients. If a condition has been discovered they want
to make sure they live longer by promoting and preventing diseases and complications. Public health
is everyone around you and the involvement of the community. If public health is really effective
then it will also help the NHS save money. Monitoring the health status of the community: When we

Immunisation and other control measures are put in place to control them so that the diseases
do not affect the whole population. This also may include food hygiene measures in restaurants
and takeaways to control the spread of food poising. Communicable disease is carried out by
microorganisms and then transmitted through people, animals, foods and pollution. In the UK,
the government promotes health related points such as five a day this promotes to eat five fruit
or vegetable a day, do regular exercise, eat a balanced diet. When people have a baby they are
advised that they should take their child too regular check ups and it is important to get their
immunisation as it will protect the child from infectious disease. A way the government control
diseases in the population is by planning and evaluating the health and social care provision, they
do this by assessing the services that are being provided and see if they are helping problems
that take place. It is also important that when infectious diseases have come up, it is a legal
requirement that it is reported to the appropriate people, by doing this measures can be put in
place to stop them spreading. An example for this is when diseases such as Tuberculosis (TB) and
Measles are diagnosed or suspected, the local medical officer is responsible for monitoring the
disease and

three different powers is the Judicial branch, Legislative branch and the Executive branch. Those

Scaling the Mighty Kilimanjaro for Clean Water
If today I told you that I have climbed Africa s highest mountain on my hands and wheelchair, and
actually got to the top, chances are, you would not believe me. I wouldn t blame you though. Even
I did not think I could do it. At least not with my condition, I have no legs from the pelvis down
due to a genetic ailment.
But I have! Four years ago, alongside my best mates, David and Alex, I actually climbed Mt.
Kilimanjaro to the very top. In so doing, we raised close to four hundred thousand pounds for
provision of clean water for the locals. You may wonder how this was made possible. Well, I will

Evil Acts: The Killing of Star s Reputations
As most can remember those days when the family would joyfully gather around and absorb
television together. Particularly, those kinds of moments consume the strength understanding each
other s tolerance levels which soundly relate to commitment. Moreover, stars like Bill Cosby,
Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and sports stars (i.e., O.J. Simpson) stain our memories with joy,

Are they sent by God to entertain us? According to sources, their lives have been adversely affected
by murder, incarceration, episodes of addiction; in contrast, Eddie Murphy, for instance, is

part, yes their events affects our faith.
Bill Cosby: A lone star in comedy actor ( The Cosby Show ) featuring himself as a leader and

Nobody s Son Quotes Analysis
In nobody s son are many quotes that make you think deeply. Reading the book Nobody s son, I
found a quote that caught my eye, at first it seems complicated to understand but when I reread
it, it made sense. Home isn t just a place, I have learned. It is also a language Luis Alberto Urrea.
It is a powerful quote and it imparts a great meaning. This quote is in the first section of the
book. Urrea is talking about an interview he had in MГ©xico City. In the firsts years of his life,
Urrea did not know what a home was until Mama Chayo took care of him. Was there when he
feel like home, because in that place Urrea received the love and care that his parents could not
give to him. Where is home? What is home? It is incredible how a quote can change the way we
think. I had not thought before what a home is, until I read this quote. What a home is? Literally
thinking a home is a building, dorm or apartment where we reside, and we share with our family,
relatives or friends. A place where you spend most of your days and nights. These does... Show

Mama Chayo and her family gave Urrea the love and care that he needed. When some of us
think about home, we think of problems, homework, housework, bills, and responsibilities. We
never look beyond of all of that and see the importance of a home. Maybe we need to stop and
reflect what would you do without your home? That was how Urrea feel when he haven t had a
place that he could call home. In the other hand, we use to call home to our native land, for
example I consider Mexico as my home. But Urrea born in the border between Mexico and the
United States, when he was five he moved to the United States. At that age what was home for
him? The U.S. had became his home, it was a 360 degrees

Within the fifth and the eighth weeks of prenatal development, the hard and the soft palate are
formed. If the palate is not yet formed, this is a cleft or/and palate. The signs of a child having a
cleft lip or/and palate is that the forehead can be overhanging. The lower jaw may take longer to
develop. When the child is born, there are many effects. The child has difficulties with eating,
speaking, and also breathing. With the excessive opening of the nostril, the child is more prone to
frequent and reoccurring ear infections. The nasal cavity is advised to be cleaned thoroughly and
covered ever so often. These ear infections can possibly cause hearing loss. When feeding the child,
the cleft lip or palate prevents effective suction. Small but frequent feedings maybe considered. This
will help the child get the nutrients and enough satisfaction. The child will also have difficulties
with speech. This may cause slurring of the words and incorrect pronunciation. Irregular positioning
of the mouth, malformed of the teeth structure and missing teeth can occur in the cleft lip or palate.

Personal Narrative-Lucid Dreaming

I hesitated my writing and allowed my mind to wander. Dreams. The realm of unreal turned reality.
A place where the same intellect of a person lies but is used in divergent ways.

Fact or Fiction?
Total Recall Paper
PHIL 2003 013
Usually at least once in a lifetime a person will question whether a dream was reality or not. It is
rare to think I am just dreaming in a dream. In the 1990s movie Total Recall the director, Paul
Verhoeven, attempts to illustrate the puzzling question of what is reality and what is not? With
Arnold Schwarzenegger in this futuristic flick, the director cleverly confuses the audience about
what is real in the movie, making one doubt each previous scene. Total Recall begins with the main
character, Douglas Quaid, on a mission to decipher a reoccurring dream that takes place in Mars.

His belief in God even affected his theories on reality. One of his theories was that he was being
deceived by a conniving and mischievous demon that was hell bent on distorting his reality. The
demon could be comparable to the evil dictator and the memory replacing machine in Total
Recall. Despite the evil demon, Descartes did manage to reveal one very true thing and that is
that he must exist if he truly is being deceived by the evil demon because he needs to exist in
order to be deceived. He later summarizes this into his famous phrase I think, therefore, I am.
(Descartes 136). The second philosopher that analyses the problem of what is reality and what
is not in the Introduction to Philosophy textbook is Christopher Grau. Grau, in his essay,
expands on Descartes idea of the evil demon by basing it off of The Matrix with his theory, The
Brain in a Vat Theory. The theory is just like it sounds. Just like in Total Recall, an extremely
intelligent device has the ability to give humans and gives them a false reality of a life. What
Grau is purposing is that we, as people, could quite possibly be hooked up to a super computer and
given false memories and experiences as well. In conclusion, Total Recall is a

Keurig should insist on their plan to launch the new Keurig Cup even if the GMCR holds the

School Shootings Throughout the United States
Recently there have been many school shootings throughout the United States and the world.
Most of these shooting were all connected with the shooter being on anti depressant medications.
In an article called Medicated to death: by SSRI s and mass killings by Lisa Arbercheski, she
writes that SSRI s are linked to the cause of most shootings. Selective Serotonin Reuptake
Inhibitors (SSRI) is one of the most popular medications taken for depression in many countries.
Some are known by their popular names like Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, and Paxil. These
medications have many tests done and none of them prove that they cure depression or mood
swings. Could these medications be connected to some of the most recent shootings like the one
in Newton, Connecticut? The case is that these medications are causing adolescents to go on
suicidal rampage shootings and the United States is trying to play it off like the medications have
no connection. Many of these young people committing these crimes are doing it because there is
some type of rejection in their life. Doctors try to alleviate there symptoms by giving them higher
doses of medication making it worse. In the article by Arbercheski she describes a shooting on
December of 2000 when Micheal McDermott went on a shooting rampage at his workplace. It was
determined during his trial that he had increased his antidepressantmedication, Prozac, from 70
milligrams to 210 milligrams per day. There was also two other recent cases where

Global Warming is False Essay
A Flawed Opinion
Whenever someone thinks of CO2, they think of global warming. They are reminded of Al Gore
and his stance on global warming and they automatically think it is true. He has a lot of evidence
to back up his theory about how global warming exists and that it is the reason animals are going
extinct and also why the climate is changing. Well these facts are wrong and there is evidence to
prove it. Global warming is not real and the Earth might even be in a cooling period. There so
many reasons to blame people for the epidemic of this false global warming. CO2, a naturally
produced gas absorbed by oceans and trees could not be the reason, so what could? Well, nothing

People assume that just because there are clouds of smog over cities and industrial areas, that it is
because of all the carbon dioxide being released into the air. There is also type of smog called
photochemical smog which was recently discovered in the 1950 s. Aus e tute s The Chemistry
of Photochemical Smog refers to photochemical smog as, a type of air pollution produced when
sunlight acts upon motor vehicle exhaust gases to form harmful substances such as ozone (O3),
aldehydes and peroxyacetylnitrate (PAN). When some see this they think, wow, all the carbon
being released from the burning of fossil fuels in cars can lead to these toxic chemicals. That is
where they are wrong. Aus e tute also sets apart the type of gasses from cars that cause these
chemicals. They explain that, Motor vehicles produce exhaust gases containing oxides of
nitrogen such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO). Again no carbon was the effect
of a potentially harmful chemical byproduct. Later in his article John Coleman explains some of
the main components of our atmosphere. Most of the air we breathe today is mostly nitrogen. He
says in page 3 of his article that ...in front of my face contains 100,000 molecules of atmosphere.
Of those 100,000, 38 are CO2: 38 out of a hundred thousand. That makes it a trace component...how

Advantages Of Objective Motion Devices
Introduction
Continue passive motion is the passive motion performed by a mechanical device that move a joint
slowly and continually through a controlled of range of motion (Carolyn Kisner, 2012). Continue
passive motion device exist in the market for nearly every joint in the body such as shoulder
continue passive motion machine, knee continue passive motion machine, elbow continue passive
motion machine and ankle continue passive motion machine. Continue passive motion device
allow the joint to move for hours in time. Continue passive motion device make the joint to flex or
extent in a preset range of motion and time of repetition. The movement produce by the device is
slow and controlled and thus the patient does not actively exert force on the muscle to produce

Physiotherapist can instruct the caregiver or family member the proper use of the device since it is
benefit to the patient.
7.Continue passive motion device is adjustable, easy control, versatile and portable. There are
some devices which allow the individual to wear for up to 8 hours since it is operate by using the
rechargeable battery.
Disadvantage of the continue passive motion
1.Continue passive motion brings the detrimental effect. Using continue passive motion will cause
the need for greater analgesia intervention and increased postoperative blood drainage.
2.Cost of using the continue passive motion machine, patient compliance, utilization and
supervision of the equipment by trained personnel, length of hospital stay, speed of recovery and
determination of appropriate patient population become issues to consider whether or not to utilize

Economic Distress On France s Regressive Taxation System
Furthermore, economic distress was furthered upon France s regressive taxation system where
evidence suggests it caused the Third Estate to be deprived of food and drove many to the brink of
starvation which in turn led to social unrest. One possible interpretation of the taxation system in
place is that of Jacques Neckerwho condemned it as a real monstrosity in the eyes of reason .
Necker s criticisms of the taxation system can be seen by the proportion of tax levied on the
Third Estate who had to pay a tenth of their income to the state and a 5% property tax called the
vingtiГЁme which was a tax on the number of people in the family. The long term implications of
these taxes were brutal to the Third Estate as agricultural yields were declining yet taxes were
growing steadily higher. This is arguably something King Louis XVI has to take responsibility for
as he aggravated the situation with his excessive spending with total disregard of France s fiscal
problems as he ordered to build Versailles with gold decorations; this unnecessary spending
furthered the debt, equally Marie Antoinettes unwarranted spending led to anger among the Third
Estate. Whilst it can certainly be argued the excessive spending of the monarch was not a direct
cause of the economic problems thus blame cannot be entirely placed on Louis XVI as those
before him, Louis XIV and Louis XV also spent excessive amounts, as they were accustomed to this
style of living. Nevertheless the combination of other

Causes Of Disaster In Science Fiction
Science Fiction stories can lead people to think of how the world will go into extinction. People
are anxious and in fear that any kind of disaster in Science Fiction stories could actually happen in
reality. People are afraid of what will happen if any kind of disaster would destroy the world into
extinction. People would believe that these Science Fictionstories can make them believe that
disaster can lead into extinction and nothing would be left on earth. Reading these stories of
disaster could build up their anxieties and well prepared to get ready if any kind of disaster were to

The Puritans were a distinct group of individuals who performed religious actions. They emerged
within the England church in the mid 16th century. These people shared a conjoint Calvinist
theology as well as the common Anglican Church criticisms and the English government and
society. The Puritans population grew steadily, hence culminating in the 1640s English Civil War
and the Oliver Cromwell rule of the 1640s.

1), A Model of Christian Charity, Puritans in Massachusetts were placed as a city upon a hill to
create a model of success and prosperity that would light the way for the rest of humankind.
The Puritans believed that the Almighty had chosen them to create a New Jerusalem in Eden,
the Promised Land and took this as a calling that they shouldn t have failed in. these people were
received well with enthusiasm and were discovered to believe in ways that were parallel to those
of the Europeans. They also held that the supreme God both tested and favored them. In their
teachings, the devil s description was that of a tormentor and a tempter, who tirelessly worked in
attempt to disorient them. However, they were encouraged to always be ready for him and defeat
him so as to receive God s promise, eternal salvation.
Religion played a significant role in the Native American Society as well as the Puritan Society
even though both of them believed in varied ideologies. The Puritan people believed that had

belief that all of us were the same in the eyes of God and no one was greater than the other. These
two groups had their meanings propagated in a very much contrasting manner.

Don t Underestimate North Korea s Nuclear Arsenal

For one, North Korea first must miniaturize it. They have not done this. Second, the missile would
have to fly and be dependable. When the North Korean s launched the latest missile, and this is
true for many others, they did so at an angle and depth to ensure that it would land in the water
before it hit Japan. If they had been more confident in their own missiles, they would have
launched closer to the surface, and at an angle that would allowed it to travel a distance of over
310 miles. Since it traveled 310 miles with the high arc, it is probable that the latest test could have
flown closer to the 700 800 miles that has been estimated. The second page is where the significant
inaccuracies begin. The first paragraph on the second page states that the first atomic bomb, which
used enriched uranium, was never tested: Hiroshima was the test. The second one, which used
plutonium, was tested once and worked perfectly at Trinity and on Nagasaki. (Woolsey Pry, 2017)
Hiroshima was not the first instance of the United States detonating an atomic bomb, Trinity was.
Trinity occurred on July 16th, 1945, and the bombing of Hiroshima occurred on August 6th, 1945.
Trinity was also uranium 235, not plutonium. (Taylor, 2015) The authors also mentioned that
France s first nuclear test was a success. The first nuclear test conducted by France exploded with

Holden Uses Defense Mechanisms
Consequently, Holden uses defense mechanisms, as a means of preventing anxiety that would
result from conscious awareness of disturbing impulses, wishes, or ideas arising from the id,
(Nevid 471). Nevid explains that according to Freudian theory, defense mechanisms reside in the
unconscious part of the human brain because if people were conscious of every single problem,
people wouldn t be able to function. Therefore, Holden is subconsciously utilizing defense
mechanisms in order to shield himself from confronting his problems. One major defense
mechanism present in Holden s behavior is denial. Holden s resides in an ivory tower, reluctant to
accept that he s actually hurt. For example, Holden encounters an elevator man named Maurice...

Although defense mechanisms can help put off a certain problem for some time, relying on
defense mechanisms is not always beneficial because it gives people reasons to act irrationally.
This clarification of Freud s theory is strongly portrayed in Holden s exaggerated view of reality.
His denial triggers delusional fantasies in Holden s mind that he doesn t seem to think deeply
about. For example, when one rash thought entered into Holden s mind, he delivers an
ultimatum to Sally, saying, ...Tomorrow morning we could drive up to Massachusetts and
Vermont...We ll stay in cabin camps until the dough runs out. Then, when the dough runs out, I
could get a job somewhere, and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we
could get married or something, (Salinger 132). At the age of sixteen, as if it s not unrealistic
enough, he tries to persuade Sally. When Sally gives him a reality check, he practically rages at
her. Holden is so blinded by the fantasy world he created for himself and his defense mechanisms
were giving Holden an excuse to acting abnormally. As a result, he blames Sally for the
unreasonable idea he proposed, calling her a royal pain in the ass, (133). This irrational behavior of
Holden is exactly what Freud is illustrating in his theory of personality that depending on defense

The American Express Launched A Coalition Loyalty Program
Background
In May 15 American Express launched a Coalition loyalty program called Plenti. Members of
Plenti can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite
Aid and ATT.) The biggest challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and
building an economic case for shifting away from proprietary programs.
As part of efforts, we were in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty
program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for
purchase within their store over next 2 weeks while in Plenti the points (1 point = 1 cent) are valid
for 3 years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. Rite Aid was concerned that if ...

One option was to guarantee dollar value of points redeemed at Rite Aid However, in their old
loyalty program, all points were redeemed in their stores, so the guarantee had to be equal to their
point issuance. Rite Aid was planning to issue $75M worth of points so the proposal represented a
large risk.
Alternatively, we could have offered them exit rights linked with in store redemptions but that
would have created an uncertainty and would have been against spirit of coalition.
We finally proposed ratio of points redeemed at Rite Aid to Rite Aid issued points redeemed at
other sponsors would always be greater than 1. The ratio implied on Cash flow basis the program
will be neutral for Rite Aid. The proposal guarded us against slow adaptation and penalized only if
redemptions at Rite Aid were lower than other sponsors.
We did not have any data to inform the metrics. Even though we were confident about meeting the
metrics in the long term as Plenti envisioned signing earn only partners (where customers will earn
points, but will not redeem them) but in the short term it was a challenge to estimate it.
The proposed guarantee had two major drivers, firstly, how many Rite Aid issued points will be
redeemed in each year and secondly how many Rite Aid issued points would be redeemed at Rite
Aid vs. other merchants.
We used data from international loyalty programs (Nectar, Air miles) and estimated 80% of the

Paul s Flattery Essay
As an orator or public speaker the level of professionalism you exuberant is vital, otherwise, you
stand to face criticism, mainly by highly esteemed philosophers and city leaders.
Anyone who was not forthcoming with their intentions and used flattery was perceived to be
looking to secure money from the hearers. Feeling strongly towards orators and their deceit, Plato
criticized them as a sort of merchant or dealer in provisions on which the soul is nourished. Plato
also refused to give the name of art to anything that is irrational and said, if you dispute my

3.1.2 Corruption
Another important cause of unemployment in Bosnia and Herzegovina is corruption. At the end of
each year, numerous organizations do researches related to corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
One of these organizations is Transparency International organization. According to Transparency
International, Bosnia and Herzegovina is represented as the one of the most corrupted and the most
undeveloped countries in Europe. The corruption rate in this country is calculated as 14.9% and it
places Bosnia and Herzegovina as the 5th country on the list of corrupted countries. During last four
years, this country records constant decrease in global corruption rate because the other countries
involved in this survey showed high increase in corruption rate. Moreover, Divjak (2012) states that
this country did not make any improvement or decline in corruption rate, so it represents stagnation
in economy. Although the decrease is finally stopped, the result is disappointing because there is no
desire of the government to overcome the corruption. According to Tomas (2004, p.141.)

Alfred Hitchcock s Elements Of Suspense In Psychodo

Final Paper
Alfred Hitchcock was a renowned film director known for his elements of suspense and
psychological thrillers. His most popular work psycho uses the story of a phoenix secretary
(Marion Crane) who embezzled money from a client to unveil the psycho in the male character
(Norman Bates). The success of the film is greatly relied on Hitchcock s unique techniques in
creating tension and suspense. Elements that contributed to the success of the film include motifs
and parallels, and perspective used.
The most prominent motifs in psycho are birds, eyes and mirrors. Hitchcock uses birds to support
the theme of duality in the film. In one critical scene where Norman ... Show more content on

These instances lead to eyes taking significance in the film, and implicates the audience on the
note that the film is showing what should not be seen. Unlike Norman s other victims that were
not detailed, Mrs. Bates and Marion s eyes depict a watchful one that threatens Norman therefore
leading to their deaths. Mirrors were also used throughout the film to enhance the theme of
duality. After Marion stole the money, Hitchcock recurrently compares her with her reflection
(like in the used car lot), even though she rarely looks at it. Marion s refusal to look at own
reflection in the mirror underscores that she is going to keep going in the path that she has chosen
and not look back. Marion s denial of her reflection led her to the Bates Motel where she met with
her death.
The shift in narration of Psycho has been a topic worth discussing in the world of film making.
Most films employ a system of restricted narration, which conveys external events as well as the
knowledge, thoughts and feelings of one or two major characters without the intervention of an
explicit narrator. But there is a significant shift of narration from restricted to omniscient that
Hitchcock used to keep the audience engaged with the film. The early scenes and exposition of the
film is focused on Marion. The audience see things from the perspective of Marion her theft, her
relationships as an employee and as a woman. Different point of view shots highlights that the film
is focused on Marion s

de force in the push for equal rights. A social movementis defined as the gathering of people to
change an element of society that they feel is not acceptable and cannot endure any longer. There
are two primary types of movements: reactive and proactive. Reactive movements typically
involved resistance movements and are a pushback or reaction to current social changes.
Proactive social movements include reform and revolutionary social movements which are
designed to bring radical social change and replace the existing structures with new ones. While
these definitions remain constant, as social changes impact societies, many social movements
may change labels. A proactive movement can become a reactive movement and vice versa. The
Black Power Movement is a social movement because it was seeking to change the societal belief
that while blacks and whites were legally equal, blacks were still treated as inferior in

A Poetic Analysis Of Loose Lips By Kimya Dawson
My main focus of my blog entries have focused around generational disconnect and music.
Before I move any further, though, I feel that I must define generational disconnect as it is a
blanket term and can mean a variety of things depending on the context. The definition I will use
is: being unable to relate to the two current generations and the inability to work together to
solve problems. The song I chose to analyze is Loose Lips by Kimya Dawson. I think this song
really connects with how lost the millennial generation feels, as if we are hanging on by a frayed
cord. Right now we are on the cusp of adult hood. In fact, the older millennial are facing it now.
Often, I think, millennials feel as though baby boomers expect us to be adults but... Show more

That is a byproduct of my personality, my family environment, and my generation. As a
millennial, and I am proud to call myself one, I can recognize that we are a stubborn bunch. We
want to fix the problems in our country, but we want it our way or the high way. I don t know
how many times, on the Internet, people have been celebrating a break through and people
attack them because they should not be celebrating with so much hate existing in the world. For
example, when the marriage equality decision was finalized, people were celebrating. Then
other millenials would cyber attack them because the LGBTQA community is still facing
oppression and we cant celebrate until it is all eradicated. As Dawson writes my war paint is
sharpie ink, and I ll show you how much my shit stink, and I think that is a very powerful line.
For one, it helps exemplify how millenials cannot ever be happy in the moment, but it also shows
a generational shift. People have always protested what they disapproved of, but in today s day
and age, we can do that instantly with the click of a button. We connect over social media. Call me
up before your dead, we can make some plans instead, send me an IM, I ll be your friend. We use
social media as a political platform, but we also use it to be alone together, as previously

Nurse To Nurse Patient Ratio
I can bear witness to all the different circumstances that qualify one to one nurse patient ratio. At
times, due to staffing and patient acuity the nurse patient ratio cannot be helped. Nurse to patient
ratio is a problem in the workplace especially in the critical care setting that requires managers and
leaders to intervene. To eliminate this problem as stated by McKenna et al. (2011) nursemanagers
are working together with other staff members in forming a committee called the Nursing
Productivity Committee (NPC), which helps to implement safe staffing strategies to ensure best
possible patient outcome and improve nurse satisfaction. The NPC, as stated by McKenna et al.,
found that nurse patient ratio in the intensive care unit (ICU) was

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Death Penalty In The...
Death Penalty should be implemented again here in the Philippines
People have different opinions and ideas regarding the issue on death penalty. In fact, this death
penalty is still a debatable issue and requires the opinions of people, researchers, and experts.
Mostly people may say that they are not in favor of this penalty for it is cruel. People may say
that death penalty may not be a possible solution for the crimes and injustices happening around us.
But, people got wrong with this idea, with this statement because this death penalty is in fact, a
good and a possible solution for what is happening right now. Death penalty could provide
advantages to us and surely we could really benefit from these advantages.
Death penalty should be implemented again here in the Philippines so that justice will prevail,
there could be an effective way to ban criminals, there could be a suitable punishment, the people
could decide properly, and there could be less chaos.
Death penalty is a serious punishment. Death penalty can also be called as a capital punishment.

Right now, we may observe that when criminals are just being put into prison, crimes are still
going on and it became more and more. It is like criminals are still being given the freedom to do
things again and again. So with death penalty, it may help lessen the crimes and it may create an
effective way to ban criminals. With this penalty, it may lead people in giving up for committing a
crime. First, people may or would think twice or more than twice with their decisions and second,
people may change their minds and would decide to not commit a crime. Also with death penalty, it
may allow the people to be afraid in committing a crime in their life. Study also shows that having

Employment Law And Employee Relationship Essay
I.Introduction There is a legal relationship among an employers and employee in the New Zealand s
workforce and stated in the Employment Relations Act 2000. However, an employee and an
independent contractor have a particularly different relationship to an employer employee
relationship due to legal significance with the relationship of employer and employee. Since, an
employer is legally responsible for the negligence of their worker s activities, but not for the
negligence of an independent contractor. This essay concentrates on the employment law and how
it affects employment agreement in New Zealand by the legal frameworks in which it develops
employment relationship in relation to the Employment Relations Act 2000. As highlighted the use
of such triangular relationships creates complexities in the rights and responsibilities of each party .
Means that the power of New Zealand s employment law defines employers and employees across
the statutes. The courts use the employment statues for their decision making. Furthermore, the
protection that is available to protect the interest of employees and independent contractors and its

Colonialism and Imperialism in Joseph Conrad s Heart of...
Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, describes a life altering journey that the protagonist,
Marlow, experiences in the African Congo. The story explores the historical period of colonialism
in Africa to exemplify Marlow s struggles. Marlow, like other Europeans of his time, is brought up
to believe certain things about colonialism, but his views change as he experiences colonialism
first hand. This essay will explore Marlow s view of colonialism, which is shaped through his
experiences and also from his relation to Kurtz. Marlow s understanding of Kurtz s experiences
show him the effects colonialism can have on a man s soul.
In Europe, colonialism was emphasized as being a great and noble cause. It was seen as, the ...

He says the Romans were conquerors and not colonialists, and explains that what saves the
colonialist is the devotion to efficiency and the unselfish belief in the idea (pg.65 66). Yet
throughout the novel, Marlow s personal experiences show how colonialism was just that, the
robbing of Africa for ivory and profit by Europeans. He ascertains that there were no improvement
in Africa like the Europeans claimed, unless the body of a middle aged negro, with a bullet hole in
the forehead...may be considered improvement (pg.81). This notion of extreme physical violence is
something that threads its way through the novella.
The above epitomizes what Marlow thinks about what colonialism really brought to Africa. Some
Europeans may have genuinely believed in the idea of colonialism as being noble, but this belief
in the idea cannot save the horrible actions of colonialism or make them acceptable. Indeed this
false belief in an idea, rather then the practicalities of colonialism only aids to brutality of such
actions.
Furthermore at the time of the writing of this novella, approximately within the 1800 s,
exploration was seen as a wonderful adventure and the period of mapping out the world was well
under way. Europeans saw Africa as a black place on the map waiting to be discovered. When
Marlow was young [he] had a passion for maps. [He] would look for hours at South

Religion In The Pardoner s Tale
Throughout The Canterbury Tales religious figures are represented with character traits that are
completely different from what would be traditionally expected. One main cause behind this was
because Europe was ruled, mostly, by the Catholic Church which caused many people to suffer
from poverty and wealth while the church was building extravagant cathedrals. The overwhelming
difference between the suffering of the people and the wealth of the church caused Chaucer to show
many of his characters as deceitful and greedy. Multiple examples of this can be found throughout
The Canterbury Taleslike; the Summoner from the The Friar s Tale and Death from the The
Pardoner s Tale.
During Chaucer s life a summoner was a church official who would bring people that have been
accused of violating the laws set by the church to court, which was also set up by the church. In
The Friar s Tale there is a deceitful summoner who pressures people into giving bribing him, so
they won t have to go to court, by using his position in the church. In order to accomplish this the
summoner has a network of spies that will report to him in order for him to be able to issue the
summons for court and con the people out of there money. Unlike what most people thought the
summoner was representing, which was justice, he actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Pardoner decides to personify death in this tale, and each character in the tale that seeks
Death is either to to die or kill another character when they are close to Death. When writing this
tale Chaucer is trying to convey, through the pardoner, that traits such as greed and corruption
are going to lead to death. Ironically the Pardoner also embodies all of these traits because
towards the end of the tale he tries to get people to buy his relics in order to make a quick buck,
which shows that another church official is just as corrupt and greedy as the Summoner from The

Taking a Look at Don Marquis
Don Marquis, born on July 29, 1878 in Walnut, Illinois, United States, was a very dark and
satirical man. Translating his love of the work of Mark Twain, and also taking inspiration from
many tragic events that took most of his family from him, he became the man he is known as today.
Don Marquis worked many jobs before he started writing such as: in a pharmacy, on a chicken
farm, on a railroad, for a county newspaper, and as a schoolteacher (Knight). In 1899 he went to
Washington, D. C., where for a time he was simultaneously a student at the Corcoran School of
Art, a clerk in the Census Bureau, and a reporter for the Washington Times . At this time he was
torn between wanting to act, to paint, and write. Journalism eventually won, and in 1902 he joined
the staff of the Atlanta News, becoming an editorial writer on the Atlanta Journal two years later. In
1909 Marquis moved to New York City, where, after working as a reporter on the American and
the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, he joined the editing staff of the Evening Sun. Next year, in April 1913,
he began the Sun Dial, which was the column he was to make famous (1. Donald ).
Later on he was torn between his desires to act, to paint, and to write. Journalism eventually won
the upper hand, and in 1902 joined staff of the Atlanta (Ga.) News (1. Donald ). Two years later he
became an editorial writer for the Atlanta Journal where he met Joel Chandler Harris, who in 1907
offered him a post as associate editor of Uncle

Diverticulitis
Diverticular disease has two separate manifestations. The subtle signs and symptoms of
diverticulosis are important to understand because many people who have this problem are
asymptomatic, but often this diverticular disease can lead to a more serious condition known as
diverticulitis. In diverticulosis, there are diverticula present, but they do not cause any symptoms.
In diverticulitis, which will be discussed in detail, the diverticula are inflamed which can lead to
other serious consequences for the patient (Gramse, 1983). Diverticulitis is a bugling protrusion of
a mucous membrane through the wall of the colon(Marrs, 2006). These saclike or pouch protrusions
have the potential to cause inflammation, obstruction, infection, and... Show more content on

Fifteen percent of the remaining patients develop symptoms of their diverticulosis, while the
remaining five percent develop diverticulitis. The symptoms of diverticulosis are often hard to
differentiate and determine because they are often nonspecific symptoms, such as simple
abdominal pain that is relieved by moving their bowels (Marrs, 2006). Once inflammation occurs,
the diverticulosis is progressed to diverticulitis. This inflammation occurs from the large number of
bacteria that target the areas of weakened gastrointestinal wall and combine with undigested foods.
It is still unknown today why some diverticula became inflamed while others do not. There are
some theories surrounding this issue that states the inflammation occurs only when the erosion of
the colon wall is so bad that the body s immune system is unable to protect such a large, disrupted
area. In some cases, the inflammation gets so bad and infection co exists. This combination can
result in the enlargement of the infection, allowing it to extend into the abdomen and become
peritonitis when it infects the lining of the abdomen (Unknown, 2010). Diverticulitis is often
classified as either uncomplicated and mild or complicated and chronic. Regardless of the
classification of the disease, pain is the main symptom. Since diverticulitis occurs most often in the
Sigmoid colon, the pain associated with diverticulitis occurs most often in the lower, left quadrant of

Plea Bargain
Over the years plea bargaining has become the way for the Administration of Justice in America
and Canada s criminal trials. Accused criminals are giving up the rights to a fair trial, to indeed
plead guilty, in order to receive a much lesser charge, more comfortable prison, or even to agree
to testify against someone else. Fewer than ten percent of criminal cases brought up by the
federal government even make it to the federal courts to be tried before juries each year. According
to one legal scholar, every two seconds during a typical workday, a criminal case is disposed of in
an American courtroom by way of a guilty pleaor nolo contendere plea (Lynch, par. 1). Which

6). This would leave the court system plenty behind and nearly almost impossible to attend to each
case. Plea bargaining is essential to court cases and must be done (Emerick), stated attorney
Samuel Buccero. The court is not set up to have multiple trials. The dockets are set up to be done
in less than an hour (Emerick), Buccero said.
Plea bargaining may have advantages in America s and Canada s Justice System, but it also
proposes an advantage for the accused criminal. It gives the defendant the opportunity to reduce
sentence and provide a better, more comfortable stay in correctional facilities. It gives the
opportunity for guilty criminals, who know a guilty sentence will be there if facing a jury, to plead
guilty to the case for one s own benefits. Rather than spending time presenting a losing case in front
of a judge and jury, and losing plenty of money in court fees, the case can be wrapped up in a
matter of agreement. Guilty defendants seem to be in a win win situation and can use plea
bargaining as a total advantage.
While plea bargaining proposes plenty of advantages through the court of law in America and
Canada, it shows some disadvantages as well. First off, plea bargaining seems unlawful to many.
Every American is entitled to a right to a fair trial by the court of law. Giving the opportunity to
plea bargain is taking away from those constitutional rights. Defendants

Controversy Over Religion s Impact On Society

The Controversy of Religion in A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur s Court Religion provides
answers, evokes a sense of comfort in the unknown, and designs a moral code; however controversy
now surrounds this subject regarding whether religion s impact is more detrimental or beneficial to
a society as a whole. Mark Twain s narrator, Hank Morgan, travels back in time and attempts to
accelerate the advancement of these people through the creation of technology and more
importantly the destruction of the Church. Religion is a driving force in Mark Twain s A
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court, as both the benefits and consequences are analyzed in
order to address religion s impact on society. Throughout history religion offers protection and
the alleviation from the bewildering unknown as well as a strong moral code. After a long,
tiresome journey to rescue the princesses, Hank and Sandy are alarmed to find the alleged
royalty as pigs. As unsettling as this appears, Sandy states God shields us as she turns to her faith
to offer an explanation (Twain 198). Despite such a perplexing situation, Sandy finds comfort in
knowing that God protects them. The unexpected result of their protracted travels befuddles
Sandy; however, as religion has taught its followers, God always has a explanation for everything,
leading Sandy to set aside her worries and find comfort in knowing that this is

A Christian Worldview On The World Through The Lens Of The...
A Christian worldview would encompass the framework that we must view the world through the
lens of the Bible. Human Nature: I have not given much thought as to identifying my Christian
worldview on paper, and rarely have I given it much thought. To be a born again is to believe the
Gospel of Jesus Christ one must take a stand for the fundamental principles of the Gospel. Those
principles include belief in Godas the creator of the universe and all that are on the earth and Jesus
Christ as the Son of God who came to save the world from sin and redeem us back to God. The
absolute truth that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived, died on the cross for all mankind for
the sins both seen and unseen, and rose from the grave on the third day, who has now has
ascended to heaven. He will return to take us back to the place that he has prepared for the bride
to come and live with him in eternity. God the Father is the Absolute, Sovereign, eternal God
who has no beginning and no end, who moves in and out of time to have interaction at his will
with the children of men. The scripture is viewed as the infallible Word of God and they were
written by men of old who were inspired by God. Therefore, the Christian worldview that I
ascribe to are the ones that I have previously noted. Now there are those who would question or
disagree with my next principle, however, I feel that a Christian should possess this nature as well.

The Home Front Effect in The American Civil War
The Civil War was unlike any other war ever fought in America and had many effects on the
home front for both the North and the South. It is stated to be the first ever total war, which is a
war against not only the civilians but also the armies. The Civil War is also considered the first
modern war fought by the U.S. troops. Lincoln asked volunteers to sign up for only three months.
Many people thought the war wouldn t last long. However, the war continued on for four years.
The Union armies had around 2,500,000 to 2,750,000 men and the Confederate army had
approximately 750,000 to 1,250,000 men. The entire North and South society was affected by the

In similar, the role for women was also greatly changed in the South. Women took part in all aspects
of supporting the war effort. The women learned how to maintain farms, plantations, and factories.
Similar to women in the North, the women of the south also took part in and became nurses.
Richmond was later established, which was considered as a hospital center similar to that of
Washington and Alexandria as hospital centers in the North (Austin, 1975). All in all, the South
was unsuccessful in progressing in a favorable system for intermediate transportation. The South
mainly depended on their cotton and tobacco. They were helpless with diverting over to a food

North had access to machinery and used them significantly. This allowed framers to develop more

The Classical Expected Utility Theory And The Dual Theory...
INTRODUCTION:
Identifying, defining risks (market risks as well as non market risks), presenting and justifying a
unified framework for the analysis, construction and implementation of risk measures are important
components of insurance pricing.
According to the Oxford s advanced learners dictionary, risk can be defined as the possibility that
something uncertain (not predictable) and unpleasant will happen. Both financial and insurance
organisations are therefore faced with this concept of risk in their everyday activities. Financial
risk can be said to be the possibility that the return achieved on an investment will be different from
that expected, and also takes into account the size of the difference. Whereas insurers will define
risk as a chance of harm, damage or loss against something which is insured.
Several literatures reveal a good number of different approaches and theories to the price of risk.
The two main competing economic theories we shall consider are the classical expected utility
theory, and the dual theory of risk which was developed by Yaari(1987).
They defined the price of an insurance risk excluding other expenses as the risk adjusted premium.
The rest of this paper is structured as follows: section 2 presents the class of distortion operators
used in insurance pricing, their properties and an application of pricing by distortion. Section 3
incorporates a new pricing principle by Wang (2002) and its relevance to natural hedging.

Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels.
The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once
the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that
almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol.
The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the
family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word
anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes
him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His
symbol throughout the novelis self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them
teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing,
only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her
symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is
lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side.
Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and
toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain
blowing on her again (pg. 73). This shows how sad Addie is

Liberal economists questioned the costs and the benefits of having them, but the armed forces, the merchants and missionaries wanted colonies for their own respective interests. Colonisation was right from the start, marked by ambiguity on the one hand, colonies were there to be exploited but on the other hand, this was construed as not only materially beneficial for the colonies, but a moral responsibility of Europe. Colonisation assumed the promise of worldwide civilisation for all and a unity of interest between the metropole and the colony. It had economic philanthropic and political dimensions and those who wanted colonies argued that the development of a nation was like the successive stages of human life, making colonisation appear natural and inevitable as well as a duty. This was the state of affairs at the end of world war I in 1918 when there was a major redistribution of power and Germany lost its colonies in favour of Britain and France . The developed countries are also faced with challenges such as prostitution, drug abuse and high crime rate. The high the standard of living the more problems accumulate. • 3. Importance Of Conformity In The Film Not Without My... When we conform we belong, when we rebel we doubt. Two sides to the spectrum. Two paths to figure out. An hour, a minute, a split second... What path will you choose? Will you choose to take a risk and stand out? Or doubt yourself and conform to society s norms? Or will you even have a choice. Good morning Year 11, I was asked to join you here today to discuss conformityand its presence in the brilliant film; Not Without My Daughter , directed by Brain Gilbert. The movie was adapted from the true story based on Betty Mahmoody s experience. The plot pivots on a sinister manipulation: Iranian American husband Moody , convinces his American wife, Betty, to travel with him and their daughter, Mahtob, for a vacation in Iran, promising to safely return to their Michigan home two weeks later. However, once there, in the male dominated country of Iran, his personality shifts dramatically. He dedicates himself to his religion and his country, revealing his true intentions for them to stay in Iran for good. He steals Betty s freedom and forces her to stay in Iran, while progressively becoming more physically abusive toward Betty as she resists. What would you do if you were in Betty s shoes? Conformity can either satisfy the natural human need for social interaction or establish barriers that lead to isolation. Personal circumstances and choices to either conform or rebel dictate the direction one ends up going. The movie Not Without My Daughter clearly exemplifies this through ... Bismarck s foreign policy was entirely based on preserving his power and Germany s throughout Europe. After 1870 he was against the idea of expanding Germany and believed that the country was satiated. Instead, Bismarck wanted to keep the peace among European countries rather than engaging in war, therefore keeping Germany safe from attack. He planned to do this through the use of gaining european alliances which included Austria Hungary, Italy, and Russia. Believing that France would remain Germany s enemy because of the annexation of Alsace Lorraine, an action he had opposed because of the enmity it would cause, he left France isolated (Germany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to Bismarck, Kaiser believed that in order to keep Germany in power and prevent them from defeat he had to build and strengthen a navy as strong as, if not stronger than England s. In all, Kaiser s end goal was to make Germany the strongest country in power out of Europe, whereas Bismarck was content with having good relations with different European countries but also maintaining his own power throughout the land that he owned. Bismarck s decisions and policy effected the first World War when he used a series of conflicts to bring Germany together but also create several enemies. One of these enemies being France played a big part in World War Ilater because Germany took the former French territory of Alsace Lorraine. This conflict that took place during the time of Bismarck s reign gave France a motive to fight against Germany. Wilhelm on the other hand played a far bigger role in the war. Because of a quarrel amongst Serbia and Germany, he asked Austria Hungary to attack Serbia and thus pulling Britain, France, and Russia into the war ( Firstworldwar ). his aggressive tactics and need for power created many enemies and caused the German Empire to lose a lot of power leading up to the war. 2. The war especially hit hard on the Russian military. Russian military was defeated time and it me again, and the costs were high to maintain the forces. • 6. Cpr Reform With an increasing number of people attending CPR classes, many of them wonder about whether they can be held liable if a person they help receives injuries from emergency medical care. It is certainly a plausible concern, as broken ribs are a common occurrence. Anytime CPR is performed, there is essentially a 50/50 chance that it will result in a broken bone. Why Do Broken Bones Happen? The very nature of CPR creates conditions that are favorable to the development of broken ribs. The rescuer has to place the heel of his hand on the victim s chest and press down at least two inches thirty times for each round of chest compressions. That comes out to about a hundred compressions per minute. Not surprisingly, broken ribs can be expected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... has Good Samaritan laws in place. The specifics may vary a bit depending on what state hears the case, but the basic general protections are all the same. No one who offers emergency care in good faith can be held legally liable for any physical injuries or other damages that occur because of their actions. It is worth noting that a few states have a narrower view and only apply these laws to medical professionals, thereby excluding volunteers. Most states also exclude blatant willful or negligent misconduct from legal protection. Gross Negligence A lawsuit against a rescuer who performed CPR and broke a few ribs will only hold up in court if gross negligence can be proven. Something must have been done right if the victim is alive to complain about the injury, so it will be very difficult to demonstrate negligent behavior on the part of the rescuer, even if he or she has no formal training. On that note, there has never been a successful lawsuit against a rescuer performing CPR that resulted in broken ribs. If it is discovered that the victim does not wish to have CPR in the event of an emergency, his wishes should be respected. Otherwise, as long as the rescuer s actions are reasonable in the circumstances, there is generally no reason to fear a lawsuit if a victim is injured during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second philosopher that analyses the problem of what is reality and what is not in the Introduction to Philosophy textbook is Christopher Grau. Economic Distress On France s Regressive Taxation System Furthermore, economic distress was furthered upon France s regressive taxation system where evidence suggests it caused the Third Estate to be deprived of food and drove many to the brink of starvation which in turn led to social unrest. One possible interpretation of the taxation system in place is that of Jacques Neckerwho condemned it as a real monstrosity in the eyes of reason . Necker s criticisms of the taxation system can be seen by the proportion of tax levied on the Third Estate who had to pay a tenth of their income to the state and a 5% property tax called the vingtiГЁme which was a tax on the number of people in the family. The long term implications of these taxes were brutal to the Third Estate as agricultural yields were declining yet taxes were growing steadily higher. This is arguably something King Louis XVI has to take responsibility for as he aggravated the situation with his excessive spending with total disregard of France s fiscal problems as he ordered to build Versailles with gold decorations; this unnecessary spending furthered the debt, equally Marie Antoinettes unwarranted spending led to anger among the Third Estate. If they had been more confident in their own missiles, they would have launched closer to the surface, and at an angle that would allowed it to travel a distance of over 310 miles. • 30. Holden Uses Defense Mechanisms Consequently, Holden uses defense mechanisms, as a means of preventing anxiety that would result from conscious awareness of disturbing impulses, wishes, or ideas arising from the id, (Nevid 471). Nevid explains that according to Freudian theory, defense mechanisms reside in the unconscious part of the human brain because if people were conscious of every single problem, people wouldn t be able to function. Therefore, Holden is subconsciously utilizing defense mechanisms in order to shield himself from confronting his problems. One major defense mechanism present in Holden s behavior is denial. Although defense mechanisms can help put off a certain problem for some time, relying on defense mechanisms is not always beneficial because it gives people reasons to act irrationally. This clarification of Freud s theory is strongly portrayed in Holden s exaggerated view of reality. His denial triggers delusional fantasies in Holden s mind that he doesn t seem to think deeply about. For example, when one rash thought entered into Holden s mind, he delivers an ultimatum to Sally, saying, ...Tomorrow morning we could drive up to Massachusetts and Vermont...We ll stay in cabin camps until the dough runs out. Then, when the dough runs out, I could get a job somewhere, and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get married or something, (Salinger 132). At the age of sixteen, as if it s not unrealistic enough, he tries to persuade Sally. When Sally gives him a reality check, he practically rages at her. Holden is so blinded by the fantasy world he created for himself and his defense mechanisms were giving Holden an excuse to acting abnormally. As a result, he blames Sally for the unreasonable idea he proposed, calling her a royal pain in the ass, (133). Members of Plenti can earn and redeem points by shopping at participating merchants (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid and ATT.) The biggest challenge in launching the program was signing up merchants and building an economic case for shifting away from proprietary programs. As part of efforts, we were in negotiations with Rite Aid to join the program. Under their old loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+UPs).The dollars could be used for purchase within their store over next 2 weeks while in Plenti the points (1 point = 1 cent) are valid for 3 years and can be redeemed at any participating merchant. One option was to guarantee dollar value of points redeemed at Rite Aid However, in their old loyalty program, all points were redeemed in their stores, so the guarantee had to be equal to their point issuance. Rite Aid was planning to issue $75M worth of points so the proposal represented a large risk. Alternatively, we could have offered them exit rights linked with in store redemptions but that would have created an uncertainty and would have been against spirit of coalition. We finally proposed ratio of points redeemed at Rite Aid to Rite Aid issued points redeemed at other sponsors would always be greater than 1. The ratio implied on Cash flow basis the program will be neutral for Rite Aid. The proposal guarded us against slow adaptation and penalized only if redemptions at Rite Aid were lower than other sponsors. We did not have any data to inform the metrics. Even though we were confident about meeting the metrics in the long term as Plenti envisioned signing earn only partners (where customers will earn points, but will not redeem them) but in the short term it was a challenge to estimate it. The proposed guarantee had two major drivers, firstly, how many Rite Aid issued points will be redeemed in each year and secondly how many Rite Aid issued points would be redeemed at Rite Aid vs. other merchants. Final Paper Alfred Hitchcock was a renowned film director known for his elements of suspense and psychological thrillers. His most popular work psycho uses the story of a phoenix secretary (Marion Crane) who embezzled money from a client to unveil the psycho in the male character (Norman Bates). The success of the film is greatly relied on Hitchcock s unique techniques in creating tension and suspense. These instances lead to eyes taking significance in the film, and implicates the audience on the note that the film is showing what should not be seen. Unlike Norman s other victims that were not detailed, Mrs. Bates and Marion s eyes depict a watchful one that threatens Norman therefore leading to their deaths. Mirrors were also used throughout the film to enhance the theme of duality. After Marion stole the money, Hitchcock recurrently compares her with her reflection (like in the used car lot), even though she rarely looks at it. Marion s refusal to look at own reflection in the mirror underscores that she is going to keep going in the path that she has chosen and not look back. Marion s denial of her reflection led her to the Bates Motel where she met with her death. The shift in narration of Psycho has been a topic worth discussing in the world of film making. Most films employ a system of restricted narration, which conveys external events as well as the knowledge, thoughts and feelings of one or two major characters without the intervention of an explicit narrator. But there is a significant shift of narration from restricted to omniscient that Hitchcock used to keep the audience engaged with the film. The Black Power Movement is one example of a major social movement is the history of the United States. While it stemmed from and contains a purpose similar to that of the Civil Rights Movement, a shift in attitude and leadership gave the Black Power Movement (BPM) its own unique identity. Musicking and the use of music changed with the times to reflect this new movement and is arguably one of the central reasons the BPM is examined as its own tour de force in the push for equal rights. A social movementis defined as the gathering of people to change an element of society that they feel is not acceptable and cannot endure any longer. There are two primary types of movements: reactive and proactive. Reactive movements typically involved resistance movements and are a pushback or reaction to current social changes. Proactive social movements include reform and revolutionary social movements which are designed to bring radical social change and replace the existing structures with new ones. While these definitions remain constant, as social changes impact societies, many social movements may change labels. A proactive movement can become a reactive movement and vice versa. Religion In The Pardoner s Tale Throughout The Canterbury Tales religious figures are represented with character traits that are completely different from what would be traditionally expected. One main cause behind this was because Europe was ruled, mostly, by the Catholic Church which caused many people to suffer from poverty and wealth while the church was building extravagant cathedrals. The overwhelming difference between the suffering of the people and the wealth of the church caused Chaucer to show many of his characters as deceitful and greedy. Multiple examples of this can be found throughout The Canterbury Taleslike; the Summoner from the The Friar s Tale and Death from the The Pardoner s Tale. Once inflammation occurs, the diverticulosis is progressed to diverticulitis. This inflammation occurs from the large number of bacteria that target the areas of weakened gastrointestinal wall and combine with undigested foods. It is still unknown today why some diverticula became inflamed while others do not. There are some theories surrounding this issue that states the inflammation occurs only when the erosion of the colon wall is so bad that the body s immune system is unable to protect such a large, disrupted area. • 49. A Christian Worldview On The World Through The Lens Of The... A Christian worldview would encompass the framework that we must view the world through the lens of the Bible. Human Nature: I have not given much thought as to identifying my Christian worldview on paper, and rarely have I given it much thought. To be a born again is to believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ one must take a stand for the fundamental principles of the Gospel. Those principles include belief in Godas the creator of the universe and all that are on the earth and Jesus Christ as the Son of God who came to save the world from sin and redeem us back to God. The absolute truth that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, lived, died on the cross for all mankind for the sins both seen and unseen, and rose from the grave on the third day, who has now has ascended to heaven. He will return to take us back to the place that he has prepared for the bride to come and live with him in eternity. God the Father is the Absolute, Sovereign, eternal God who has no beginning and no end, who moves in and out of time to have interaction at his will with the children of men. The scripture is viewed as the infallible Word of God and they were written by men of old who were inspired by God. Therefore, the Christian worldview that I ascribe to are the ones that I have previously noted. Now there are those who would question or disagree with my next principle, however, I feel that a Christian should possess this nature as well. The Bible tells us in Acts 2: how the called were in the upper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Home Front Effect in The American Civil War The Civil War was unlike any other war ever fought in America and had many effects on the home front for both the North and the South. It is stated to be the first ever total war, which is a war against not only the civilians but also the armies. The Civil War is also considered the first modern war fought by the U.S. troops. Lincoln asked volunteers to sign up for only three months. Many people thought the war wouldn t last long. However, the war continued on for four years. The Union armies had around 2,500,000 to 2,750,000 men and the Confederate army had approximately 750,000 to 1,250,000 men. The entire North and South society was affected by the war and desired for many social and economic assets. The Civil war brought new military... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In similar, the role for women was also greatly changed in the South. Women took part in all aspects of supporting the war effort. The women learned how to maintain farms, plantations, and factories. Similar to women in the North, the women of the south also took part in and became nurses. Richmond was later established, which was considered as a hospital center similar to that of Washington and Alexandria as hospital centers in the North (Austin, 1975). All in all, the South was unsuccessful in progressing in a favorable system for intermediate transportation. The South mainly depended on their cotton and tobacco. They were helpless with diverting over to a food management. The fighting from the war destroyed the crops and homes in the South. The North was a diverse society and its foundation focused on an enlarged economy and agriculture. The North had access to machinery and used them significantly. This allowed framers to develop more land and supplied a growth in production. In importance, the factories had a positive impact on the war and were capable of producing guns, ammunition, and clothing more rapidly. The Union tried such methods as borrowing funds, taxing, and printing money to fund their war which in the end worked for them. The Confederacy used the same methods; however, taxing the civilians was rejected by the public and the Congress. To manage the army, the Union passed the Enrollment Act ... • 51. The Classical Expected Utility Theory And The Dual Theory... INTRODUCTION: Identifying, defining risks (market risks as well as non market risks), presenting and justifying a unified framework for the analysis, construction and implementation of risk measures are important components of insurance pricing. According to the Oxford s advanced learners dictionary, risk can be defined as the possibility that something uncertain (not predictable) and unpleasant will happen. Both financial and insurance organisations are therefore faced with this concept of risk in their everyday activities. Financial risk can be said to be the possibility that the return achieved on an investment will be different from that expected, and also takes into account the size of the difference. Whereas insurers will define risk as a chance of harm, damage or loss against something which is insured. Several literatures reveal a good number of different approaches and theories to the price of risk. The two main competing economic theories we shall consider are the classical expected utility theory, and the dual theory of risk which was developed by Yaari(1987). They defined the price of an insurance risk excluding other expenses as the risk adjusted premium. The rest of this paper is structured as follows: section 2 presents the class of distortion operators used in insurance pricing, their properties and an application of pricing by distortion. Section 3 incorporates a new pricing principle by Wang (2002) and its relevance to natural hedging. Section 4 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels. The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol. The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His symbol throughout the novelis self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing, only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side. Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain blowing on her again (pg. 73). This shows how sad Addie is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
