In this case, Carbolic Smoke Ball Company has published an advertisement in London newspaper to
promote the use of the Carbolic Smoke Ball to prevent influenza. In the advertisement, the company
offered ВЈ 100 to the people, who bought the smoke balls and used them according the instructions
given, but still contracted influenza. Mrs Carlill purchased the smoke balls after she read the
advertisement. She used them according the directions, but nevertheless caught influenza. She

to decide whether an offer that made to the world at large is valid to accept by an individual who
read the advertisement or not. The court judged that the offer made to the whole world at large is
the acceptance of the offer by everyone who knew about it. Acceptance is an agreement on the
terms of an offer. It must be made when the offer is still present. Terms of acceptance must be
unanimous with the offer and cannot be conditional. It can only come from the person to whom the
offer was made. Apart from that, acceptance must be communicated with the offeror and no certain

is effective immediately when received. Once the acceptance is communicated to the offeror, the
acceptance is effective and the agreement is reached. The case of Entores Ltd v

An Objectivists View on a Charles DickensВґChristmas Carol...
Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is considered by many to be a classic for all the ages, if an
objectivist point of view is used to analyse the social and political undertones of the story they will
agree with most of it, if not all of it. One of the major parts that an objectivist would agree with in
A ChristmasCarol is how scrooge thinks of and how he treats the poor and infirm. Scrooge further
develops his objectivist ideology by being completely self interested in both his personal and
professional life. After Scrooge is visited by the three apparitions he is radically changed from a
self interested, objectivist, to a positive and uplifting altruist. In Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
, an objectivist would agree with Scrooge s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another instant where Scrooge shows an objectivist behavior towards people poorer than he is
when, the clerk s fire is very small the clerk s fire was so very much smaller that it looked like
one coal. But he couldn t replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal box in his own room; and so
surely as the clerk came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for
them to part. Wherefore the clerk put on his white comforter, and tried to warm himself at the
candle; in which effort, not being a man of a strong imagination, he failed (7). Scrooge sees even
the tiniest of waste or usage of materials a meaning for dismissal, even if the usage of materials
is being used to better or help out another human. This shows Scrooges objective character
because, he does not believe any materials should be used on the poor and everything thing
should only be used for his own self interest. Expanding on Scrooges ideology of objectivism is
when No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o clock, no
man or woman ever once in all his life inquired the way to such and such a place, of Scrooge. Even

The Lowland By Jhumpa Lahiri
ISU ESSAYDamon Liu The Lowland written by Jhumpa Lahiri, deals with character s lives, that
are intertwined over the distance between the United States and India. The book follows Subhash,
the main protagonist of the story, as he adapts to the constant changes that come with settling far
from his birthplace. The novel not only connects the colourful cast of characters, but the reader as
well. Lahiri achieves this by creating a set of diverse characters with varying personalities,
presenting concepts, themes and motifs, and establishing a strong sense of atmosphere. In doing so,
The Lowland is a good book for high school students to study Within this novel, the reader is
introduced a wide spectrum of characters, each with various personalities and emotions. The writing
style itself jumps from multiple character s perspectives, expanding on what a typical third person
narrative could achieve. This allows for more in depth thoughts of all the characters, while still
retaining the ability to move between multiple characters that the third person style of narrative
grants. Each individual in the story is distinctive with one another. Take Subhash, a quiet and
cautious character, or Udayan, whose personality is that of confidence and tenacity. Or Gauri, who
craves independence, even if the actions taken for said independance are rash and imprudent. All of
the personalities found within this novel, however different they may be, are intertwined and affect
each other. For

The mode for both the experimental and control groups is married with 25 and 78.1% of the
experimental group being married and 31 and 86.1% of the control group being married. 7. Could
a median be determined for the education data? If so, what would the median be for education for
the experimental and the control groups? Provide a rationale for your answer.
For the education data, I must say to calculate the median, from high school to college graduate,
the median would be the some college portion since it would be the middle. The median for the
experimental group would be 11 and 34.4% and for the control group it would be 15 and 41.7%.

No, because the mode in this study shows to be White women. There is only 1 Black woman in

The Biblical Texts Of The Jewish People
For the Jewish people, Jerusalem has long been regarded as a special city, chosen by God as he
chose the people of Israel. The importance of Jerusalem in the Jewish religious tradition can be
traced back to the Hebrew Bible, in which narratives describe the events which make the city
sacred. However, these events alone do not make Jerusalema sacred place; the biblical texts also
work together to portray the importance and holiness of Yahweh, the Godof Israel. The concept of
sacredness is also highlighted by Mircea Eliade, who theorized about how a sacred place comes
into existence. The biblical texts support Eliade s ideas of the sacred by narrating repeated
hierophanies and promises, working together to reveal the importance of the divine to the people
of ancient Israel. Eliade s primary concept is that of the axis mundi, around which everything
else revolves. An axis mundi is a connection between earth and the supernatural, where humans
and the cosmic can come together (Eliade, 37). Becoming sacred, according to Eliade, is made
possible through a hierophany, an experience through which the divine manifests itself (21). This
hierophany sets a place apart, creating a break in homogeneity that separates it from the profane
(Eliade, 63). He also emphasizes the idea that sacredness makes a place real, and becomes a fixed
point, a point of reference that people align their whole world to (Eliade, 22). A hierophany opens
up the very possibility of a connection with the

Comparing and Contrasting the Movie and Natalie Babbitt s...
Do you know a book called Tuck Everlasting which is written by Natalie Babbitt existed in this
world? It is a very interesting novel with a very sad ending. It s a story about a girl, who
discovered a very dangerous secret about a particular spring water. When you drink the water, it
makes you immortal. A movie on this book was produced later on. Things change when you have to
audition something that is written. And so, the movie Tuck Everlastingwas very different from the
book Tuck Everlasting. Winnie Foster, a ten year old girl, discovered a very dangerous secret about
the springwater in the woods her parents owned. She found out that if the spring water is drunk, it

Soon, they became deeply in love with each other and they kissed nearby a crackling fire.
Winnie was a little girl in the book so, of course, she didn t kiss Jesse. Even though the two liked
each other, Winnie, unfortunately, didn t want to live forever like Jesse so she chose the right
way for her. Jesse was very sad in both the movie and the book. When Winnie saw Jesse drinking
the spring water (which was the key to immortality) Mae, Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and
took her away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie away on
his horse and left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn t carry four people and
run at the same time. Sometimes, because of problems like that, some of the parts in the book
are changed in the movie. Miles was very mean in the movie. He s always angry at something and
he s very moody. Miles was a very grumpy person, maybe because he is a married man, when he
turned immortal. His wife sensed something fishy about the Tucks family and moved out of
their household. His wife and children died as time passed by, and he was left behind. He must feel
very sad. So he took a role of a big brother and tried to abandon Jesse from liking Winnie. He didn t
want his brother to feel the way he feels if Winnie died, or maybe it was just plain jealously
because Jesse got to be in love with a girl and he did not. A man in the yellow suit was doing a little

Feminist theory views violence as a manifestation of the patriarchal structure in our culture, which
is reflected in the patterns of behaviors and attitudes of individuals. Discoveries that abusive man
frequently espouses more traditional views about women than do non abusive men. Conversely
more recent research has found no difference between men s attitudes toward women and violent
behavior toward their partners.
Evidence regarding women s attitudes is similarly mixed. There is no found difference between
abused wives and those in discordant or satisfied marriages in their attitudes toward women. Also,
no found relationship between adherence and feminist ideology. Also, the experience of sexual
aggression in a dating relationship. Other researches have concluded that the discrepance between
some couple s attitudes toward women sex roles may be a more significant predictor of violence
than the actual values of either the man or the women. In summary support for a feminist
conceptualization of the integration transmission of violence requires of an association between
violence and patriarchal values both within an abusive couple and between generations. Also,
Males reported being more verbally abusive to their partners than did females as well as receiving
substantially more verbally abuse from their partners than they themselves extended. On the other
hand, females did not report as much verbal abuse in

Abstinence Should Not Teach Students Safe Sex Practices
When people of today s world turn on the television, it is easy to see why modesty is out the
window. A good portion of the television shows aired have sexualized content, from sexual
innuendos in jokes to portraying characters in the act. With this being a known fact, there is no
doubt that sex education is important. However, schools are teaching more on the abstinence
spectrum. Preaching abstinence does not teach students safe sex practices or a clear understanding
of contraception. Abstinence only programs have the best intentions, however they are flawed due
to a biased perspective. In the year of 1996, the United States government passed a bill that funded
states who offered abstinence only programming in public schools. Ever since... Show more content

Schools receiving money from the government, in sponsorship of the program, must teach the
students to just say no to sex until legally married. The schools are also not permissible to teach
students safe sex and may not mention contraception except to point out failure rates of various
methods (Brody). There are a few states that have stood up to the government and refused funds, so
the state has the option to determine their own ways to teach sex education. However, 43 states still
take part of the program and promote it. Millions of dollars are pulled from the government each
year for the program and many schools support the abstinence only movement. The programs have
encouraging titles, such as Teens in Control and ReCapturing the Vision (Impacts). Students are
greatly encouraged take virginity vows until marriage, carry an ATM card (abstinence till marriage),
and conceitedly wear purity rings (Kelly). Programs, such as these, are used to develop a strong self
worth and to teach about the negative consequences that could occur from sexual activity, but there
is a major flaw: abstinence only programs are inefficient. Studies have shown abstinence only
programming does not reduce the sexual activity of young people. In 2007, the United States
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a study about the abstinence programs.

Art Is An Art Essay
Art is created to make feel you something. Whether it is disgust, rage, devastation or joy, as long

Citizen Kane Cinematography Analysis
The film Citizen Kane uses stylistic cinematography techniques that help stress both material
presence and textual representation. One of the main techniques used throughout the film is deep
focus which usually makes everything that s in the frame of the shot relevant. This deep focus
contributes toward the viewing of the filmas presence and also representation. For example, one
could think of the broad and self conscious use of deep focus...as an attempt to present images that
are purely and fully presence, presenting themselves to the view in their fullness without any added
meaning or interpretation. (commentary) or the deep focus can be looked at as an interpretative

Initially, there is a shot far from Kane where he is by himself in a field filled with snow, the
camera gradually pulls back inside the window of a lodge where Kanes guardians and a man
named Mr. Thatcher are having a heated discussion. Mr. Thatcher is about to take Kane away. The
camera rests at a position about eye level with Thatcher and Kane s mom, who are sitting near one
another at a table in the frontal area on the right hand side of the shot. Amidst the shot is Kane,
who is out of sight but still visible in the background through the window, and on the left hand side
is the father, who is standing, trying to declare his power but is unsuccessful at each endeavor. The
situating of the characters is intentional, Charles is in the center in light of the fact that he s the
focal point of the dialog. The cinematography in this film seems to be taking a look through a
window into the life of Charles Kane but never picking up a genuine comprehension of the main
chararcter, yet rather a variety of viewpoints. These techniques stress textual representation in the
film. The mother and Mr. Thatcher are situated together at the same tallness on the grounds that

Originating in approximately 1050 BCE, this style greatly varied from the previous Minoan and
Mycenaean approaches. Being in the Geometric period, these vases started using different shapes,
such as spirals, and diamonds, which the previous are styles were not accustomed too. Death and
funerary practices are of particular interest to archaeologists, mainly because funerary remains are
often some of the best preserved and most widely available resources for studying ancient cultures.
Graves and the objects found within them can potentially provide a wealth of information about
everything from the life and death of the deceased individual to the beliefs, rituals, and customs of
the society as a whole. Funerary remains allow archaeologists a glimpse into the individual s
personal taste, socio economic status, and position within society. Perhaps a more credible result of
studying these remains, however, is the insight into the ways in which the individual was
remembered and regarded by his or her survivors.
A large number of Greek vases from the Geometric period (approximately 900 700 BCE) focus on
burial and mourning styles. These vases come primarily from the provinces of Attica, Boeotia, and
the Argolid on the Greek mainland. The styles shown on vases from these areas are so similar to
one another that scholars believe the styles all originate from Bronze Age traditions some 800 1000
years prior. Although CU Art Museum

The Effect Of Sound On A Film Scene

Effect of Sound on a Film Scene Sound and music in the cinematic context is an effective means of
means of communication. Motion picture soundtrack, sound effects, background music, diegetic
and non diegetic sound can supplement, enhance and expand upon the meaning of the film s
narrative. The overlap and interaction of dialogue, sound effects, atmospheric sound, score music
and silence create a harmonious and synchronized counterpoint to the image of the scene. Music
in a film creates a point of experience for the spectator. Patterns of tension and release
exemplified by the sound of the scene provide a sense of organization, connection and meaning to
the audience. In my short clip from 12 years a Slave I have used music as a part of cinematic
diagesis as well as a means of communication to my audience the psychological drama of the
narrative at the subconscious level.
Sound in a scene can communicate meaning and give life to a moving image. As I created the
music for the scene I had certain intentions as a director and composer which required the
construction of a multifaceted soundtrack to convey the narrative of the scene. The music is
chosen and composed to elicit emotional response and ways in which it can convey the dramatic
intentions of the film narrative. As music can convey the scope of a film, I used music in my
scene to show it as an epic drama. I tried to use sound in my scene is such a way so as to not

IDEA Individuals With Disabilities Education Act Essay
In 1991 the Public Law 94 142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act was replaced by
the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This law was passed to provide free and
appropriate public education to every child with a disability. It requires that each child with a

possible to a normal child s educational program (Martin, 1978). The Individualized education

Until that time, many states had laws that excluded children with certain types of disabilities
from attending public school. These included children who were blind, deaf and children labeled

where they received limited or no educational services. Having a disability does not
automatically qualify a student for special education services under the IDEA. The disability

Successful Law Enforcement Career
I have been asked many times during my career, what I thought it took to excel in a Law
Enforcement career and what I have done or learned during my career. Below I have listed what
was important to me, but also understanding this may not be how everyone else in this profession
feels. I do believe though that many of the traits I have noted have to be used in some sort to
truly have a successful Law Enforcement Career. In my opinion you have to have a passion for
service to excel in this career. This passion comes from you, you either have it or you don t. You
cannot learn or teach passion. This trait to want to help others is more than just getting a pay
check, wearing a uniform, and being a part of a brotherhood, it is a true desire to make your
community and the people in it better and to protect the people who cannot protect themselves.
What a Deputy sees in his/her career will take a toll on their physical and emotional wellbeing
and if you do not have a true passion you cannot survive a whole successful career in this field. In
addition to passion you have to have balance. You need to have balance, with your family, your

Rights Of The Legal System
Right to Legal Counsel Access to justice refers to one s ability to access the legal system to
enforce one s legal rights. Without access to the legal system, an individual s legal rights are
meaningless. The maldistribution of legal services has rendered the ideal of equality before the
law an empty promise. Ensuring access to justice is cumbersome, as a constitutional right to legal
counsel will impose a considerable burden on taxpayers. The Charter of Rights and Freedom (the
Charter ) guarantees the right to legal counsel for criminal matters. Conversely, right to civil legal
aidonly arises when someone s life, liberty, or security of the person is threatened by state action.

Extra legal solutions aim to incentivize practicing lawyers to engage in pro bono work. This
paper will focus on incentivizing lawyers to do pro bono work. First, the paper will discuss the
main barrier to pro bono work and then it will suggest a general framework to address the barrier.
The main barrier to pro bono work is liability risk, which should be shifted to an insurance provider.
The main reason behind private practice lawyers reluctance to take on pro bono cases is liability
risk. In Canada, most practicing lawyers have professional liability insurance coverage.
According to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada ( FLSC ) report, in Ontario, 85 out of
125 charges laid resulted in conviction. Overall, LawPro (main insurance provider to lawyers in
Ontario) received 5140 complaints. Even though there is only 1.65% chance of a successful
malpractice claim (but 68% chance if a charge is laid), lawyers are still fearful of such claims.
Lawyers practice meticulously because mistakes will end their career. For example, the team of
lawyers that drafted the contract in the comma case will likely not be hired again. The legal
profession is reputation based. Clients expect expertise, competence, and perfection. Failure to
deliver less than a perfect document that costs the client money will ruin the lawyer s reputation.

Silas Marner Relationships
This essay will analyse the ways writers represents relationships between characters. The keys of
texts that communicates values and messages such as language, form and structure. Language, the
choice of words and their characteristic is very important to show the audience how the characters
change throughout the story and lastly, the form shows the audience what kind of text it is and if it
is written to be read or performed on stage.
Silas Marner is a Victorian realist novel by George Eliot. It contains twenty one chapters within
two parts and a conclusion. The beginning of first part shows Silas life in the village of Raveloe
who did not socialise with residents with whom he lived for fifteen years. After that, in the same

After meeting Eppie his life and attitude changed. He finds trust in God that he lost after being
banished from church. He thinks he is a gift sent by God. He became more social, even accepting
an advice from a local mother how to dress little girl. Their relationship changed his values and he
understood that gold was not that important as people. `The gold had kept his thoughts in an ever
repeated circle, leading to nothing beyond itself; but Eppie was an object compacted of changes
and hopes that forced his thoughts onward.` (Eliot, p.125) This quote shows that Eppies`
appearance made Silas understand that gold is not as important as he thought so, and life was more
than only about money and being isolated from the world.
George Eliot uses the plot and language to give a message to the audience. Throughout the story
from when Silas is isolated from others with big love for money to becoming a respected father
she shows that shows that love and relationship between people is much more important than love
of money. Even though Silas lost his beloved money that he saved for a long time, he discovered
what real happiness and love is after he becomes a Eppies` father.
A Doll s House is a naturalist play in prose by Henrik Ibsen. Similar to George Eliot he uses the
plot and language to pass a message of values and morals to the audience. The structures of the
work are the three separate acts. Through them, the author shows how Nora`s and

John Steinbeck #8217;s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, is a moving account of the social plight of

off of their farm in Oklahoma by the banks and drought, and they, like many other families of the

Cruel Optimism Analysis
The writer may suggest that one should not focus their attention on the topic of abortion, but rather
live life to the fullest. The author mentioned cruel optimism as an ideology that people intend to
achieve in order to become happy in the society. The writer quotes
Cruel optimism names a relation of attachment to compromised conditions of possibility whose
realization is discovered either to be impossible, sheer fantasy, or too possible, and toxic. What s
cruel about these attachments, and not merely inconvenient or tragic, is that the subjects who have
x in their lives might not well endure the loss of their object or scene of desire, even though its
presence threatens their well being; because whatever the content of the attachment is, the
continuity of the form of it provides something of the continuity of the subject s sense of what it
means to keep on living on and to look forward to being in the world (94). The author may argue
that in the society, some human beings may experience cruel optimism, in the sense that if the

Slavery During The 19th Century
Talin Ivey
Mr. Decker
US Dual Credit History
13 September 2015
Slavery in 17th Century VS Slavery in the late 19th Century Many people view slavery as one
consecutive time period where African Americans were captured and kept to serve the needs of
Caucasian individuals and families. But not very many people know the true extent of slavery
among the colonies. Less are aware of the nature in which slavery evolved from a trading
industry in the 17th century into its greater known state of forced labor in the 19th century.
When most people hear the word slave, they picture an African American held in bondage by an
English slave holder. While this may be an accurate description for many cases, a lot of different
ethnic groups would paint a different picture. When the Spanish first came to America, they saw
the natives as their tickets to the riches of the new world. As their greed for wealth and
agricultural demand rose, the demand for slaves also began to increase. Although, as time began
to reveal, the Spaniards also found it hard to keep the native slaves because many of them had
allies and since they were native to the land, they knew it pretty well enough to escape. African
enslavement really started when the Spaniards began to seek for slaves that were foreign to the
land and would survive their harsh treatment and foreign diseases (McDougal 77). As early as
1619, a Dutch ship carried the first Africans to Virginia, but it would not be until the 1680s that

Drug Delivery Via The Nasal Route
Introduction
In the past years, drug delivery via the nasal route has established itself as a competitor and an
alternative route over other routes of administration. It provides a higher degree of patient
compliance and drugs can be painlessly self administered by the patient (Illum, 2003). Drugs
administered through nasal route are absorbed rapidly and can reach therapeutically effective
plasma levels quickly due to highly permeable membranes and rich vasculature of the nasal cavity
(Majithiya et al., 2006). In addition, the nasal route offers further advantages over the oral route,
especially for those drugs that have poor oral bioavailability due to high hepatic first pass
metabolism, pH instability and enzyme degradation in GIT (Ugwoke et al., 2001).
Nowadays, the intranasal route has gained more interest to target drugs to the brain and cerebro
spinal fluid by passing the blood brain barrier. Intranasal formulation of drugs for the treatment of
Parkinson s disease (Khan et al., 2010), Alzheimer s disease (Zhang et al., 2004) and psychosis
(Kumar et al., 2008) have been elaborated and their therapeutic efficiency over conventional oral
dosage form has been verified.
Rivastigmine tartrate (RV) is the drug of choice for the treatment of Alzheimer s disease that is
characterized by progressive memory dysfunction due to significant insufficient levels of
acetylcholine in the brain (Williams et al., 2003). RV is categorized in the class of reversible

According to the oxford dictionary, ageing is the process of change in the properties of a material

EHR uses standardized templates that capture data by typing, scanning, and utilizing drop down
menus among other features. A physician can enter complex prescriptions and record patient visit
notes directly into EHR without handwritten notes. In an EHR system, all the records of a patient
are saved in one system and diminish the chance of misplacing the records. In an EHR system,
health records are accessible. With a mouse click, the database can search and track the entire
medical history of the patient. Moreover, through the system, the records can be accessed
remotely. It does not make a difference of where the patient is receiving care, his or her medical

Has electronic records created new medical errors?
Electronic records have decreased certain medical errors. However, a human enters all the

form is business because one can be very creative, dynamic and revolutionary. Creativity is also
related to innovation and change. I am fully aware that many of the things we see around us are
products of minds of geniuses, creative thinkers.
It is hard to imagine a business without a creative mind. A creative mind is essential in any type of
business. When we get tired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And finally, follow through skills ensures sustainability and development of initiated ideas.
Can we really teach our employees how to be creative? Isn t it hereditary? Creativity can be
developed among employees when we do the following:
a) Ask good questions. b) Get ample exposure. c) Network actively. d) Be a good listener. e) Share
your ideas. f) Support good ideas. g) Don t be contented with the first idea. h) Be more analytical.
i) Consider risks.
There are many simple but effective activities we can do in the company that yield results like
increased revenues, enhanced public image, higher market share and lower operating costs.
One activity is the dream exercise an excellent way of awakening entrepreneurial minds of
employees. One can create a scenario after another to provide some excitement in the dream itself.
Another activity that can be done is the serendipity walk a visually engaging activity that focuses
on the environment, identifying problems within that environment and creating solutions to those
problems. The most common activity companies have is brainstorming a free wheeling activity
with the objective of producing the highest possible number of suggestions to a proposition. In
brainstorming, there are no wrong ideas and modification is allowed.

The Death Penalty Of Indonesia
INTRODUCTION
Indonesia is by far the largest Southeast Asian nation, both in population and land area with the
majority of the population, Muslim (OMF International, n.d). Indonesia, also has one of the
strictest laws regarding drug offences and has demonstrated to not be afraid or be persuaded by
neighboring states not to enforce it (Aquino, n.d). Eight out of the eleven countries within
Southeast Asia still retain the death penalty for drug related offences in which Indonesia is the
only country within Southeast Asia that still carries out its executions by firing squad (Death
Penalty Information Centre, 2013) (see Table 1). The death penalty was extended to include drug
offences and only introduced into Indonesian law in 1997 (Berman, 2013). However, Indonesia
continues to enforce this penalty in the wake of the 2013 execution of a Malawian national
becoming the first execution in some years (see Table 2) (Delaney, 2013, В¶23).

British Colonialism
The English colonists were under British rule while in North America before the mid to late 18th
century. They were under such rule considered salutary neglect. This meaning British rule was not
very strict when it came to enforcing their parliamentary laws, which were supposed to keep
American colonies compliant with England. This lead to colonists autonomy developing, what they
thought as the same power, their own legislation. They believed they possessed the same rights as
any Englishman. In the 18th century colonists challenged the authority of the parliament with an
intellectual and a religious movement. The Enlightenment was a time of rejection to received
knowledge, filled with thinkers and searches for laws of nature. The Great Awakening in the 1730 s
was a wave of religious revivals sweeping through the colonies, exploring emotional connections to
God and reasoning behind the church s rule, impacting religious institutions. Americans seemed to
enjoy many freedoms unlike the world around them. They had little sense of unity though and
depended on the British military for protection. Tensions between the French and British grew with
their increasing conflict over Indian alliances. In 1754 the British were threatened by their French
and Indian allies, and responded with the Plan of Albany of which no colonial assemblies
approved. Subsequently in 1763, according to the Americans, the French and Indian war began, and
the British called it the Seven Years War. This war

Notes On Forex Trading Software
Forex trading software has a noble aim: to completely automate the forex trading process. It can
either produce trading signals and you make the actual trade, or the more sophisticated programs
can be set to make the trade as well. When you are trading on the stock market, you would
typically choose one or more companies and start watching their shares. You will study their
financial statements. You will listen to what other traders say about their stock value whether it s
undervalued or overvalued. But whatever you do, it is unlikely that you will ever get access to the
information that can really make or break a particular company. Things like technological changes
that will make their products totally obsolete. The forex market is somewhat different in this
regard. At least theoretically it s a level playing field. All traders have equal access to market
information. What s left for the traders then is to analyze that information, come to a trading
decision and start making money. So try to comprehend the development that took place through
years. Every moment forex market constructs a new history and hence you have to know what the
recent news is and how it is influencing the price movements. Also you should be familiar with the
parties those are working on the trading like the forex brokers or the companies selling trading
signals or other relevant services. If you can comprehend these simple requirements then

Raja Vijay Kumar Mulleti
INTRODUCTION: In order to understand the concept of copyright infringement first we need to
know about intellectual property and laws that are under intellectual property. Intellectual property
is the property that is the invention or a creative work by one s own idea or knowledge. There is
law that protects this intellectual property by giving some restrictions to the persons who use it;
these laws are called copyright laws. When a person who is using the creative work of another
person and when that person crosses any limit and opposes copyright law, then it is called

Essay on Chicano Art
Chicano Art
Chicano Art and Indigenismo
Artworks have played an indelible work to the lives of humanity. The creative nature in Artists is a
complex matter to define. The uncertainties in the intrinsic nature in art lay difficult aspects that
can only be answered by values, themes and skills depicted in an artist artwork. Apart from playing
the intricate psychological effect on humans, the artworks have been used as a tool of expression
that has been revered and uniquely preserved for future generation. Among some of the most
revered modern forms of artwork has included Chicano Art that had a core relationship to Las
Carpas, Indigenismo, rascuachismo and other forms of performance art.

The artwork fuses on the interest to the abstraction of the Tarascan symbology by painting a pre

trying to link to his distant past by borrowing designs and ideas from the ancient cultures that
existed in Mexico.

The Chicano art movement rose during the civil rights era was based on three goals that included
restoral of land, education reforms rights for farm workers. The three goals followed by the
Chicano Art artists had long been coming. One of the first goals included rights for farm workers.
Arguably, the Mexicans Americans fight to secure unionization for the farm workers was one of

Analysis on McNabs Island Essay
McNabs Island is located at the mouth of the Halifax Harbor, and its size is approximately 395
hectares. On McNabs Island, the highest elevation is 45 meters. The elevation of this island
rises toward the middle so that the elevation of central land is higher than the edge. Moreover,
the proportion of its flat areas is approximately 20%, which mostly occurs at hilltops and coastal
beaches. The proportion of gentle and moderate slopes are around 25%, and most of them occur
in the middle area of the island; the proportion of the steep slopes is about 30% which are located
near and at the coasts. Furthermore, from the slope and elevation map which we did before, we

On the opposite, if there is a flat or gentle ground, and some kinds of vegetation covering, the
volume and speed of overland flow will decrease. For the coastal environment and processes of
the island, the low energy waves create flat beaches because waves sediments are pushed by the
wind toward the coastline. On the opposite, the high energy waves create coastal cliffs from
wave erosion, and when coastal cliffs are formed, waves will break and release a great deal of
energy. In addition, the island shorelines vary from cobbled stone to fine sand, and with salt
marshes in a few coves such as the one near Maugers Beach. The sandy shores are mostly located
at Ives Cove and Wreck Cove. Cobbles shores are mostly located at Hangmans Beach and Finlays.
In addition, there are a few rocky shores in the region such as the one which is located at Maugers
Beach or McNabs Cove. Furthermore, there are some infrastructures near the coast such as
building, wharves and streets. For the solar aspect and micro climate of McNabs Island, most
slopes are facing to the east, west and south, and there only a few north facing slopes. Actually,
north slopes always receive less solar energy, and south slopes are much brighter and warmer
(Course Lecture, 2013). However, north facing slopes seem to have a moister soil and more
vegetation. Even though south facing slopes receive more direct sunlight and snow will melt

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Essay
The Island of Dr. Moreau, by H.G. Wells is focused around a man fascinated with the difference
between animal and man. Dr. Moreau, a man surely seen as a mad scientist to the outside world,
and maybe correctly. Dr. Moreau is determined to establish a sustainable human population, but all
he has on his secluded island, are a bunch of beasts. Although, this appears to be a problem, he still
works toward his goal, in rather experimental stages.
The genre of the story is very much science fiction, but it is also realistic fiction. Although this is
not based on any true events, the idea of experimenting on and evolving humans is not only
possible, but would most likely be a common thing if not for the lack of legality of the practice. The
point of view is definitely first person as the book is written as a diary of sorts. The narrator is
telling the reader, his experiences on the island as if retelling a personal ... Show more content on

Edward Prendick, being the protagonist as well as narrator of the book showed most development
in his opinion of the beast people. Prendick went from being scared to death of the beasts turned
humans when he first came ashore on the island, to being friendly, feeling pity when they were
tortured, and back to being scared to death again when one of them killed the doctor. He is very
philosophical when it comes to the comparison between man and beast.
Dr. Moreau is fascinated with evolution; he wants to turn the wild life of the island into humans.
But mainly he wants to create evolution directly. He is very spiritual in the sense that he seeks the
meaning of life. He declares himself god almost as he seeks the powers of god, the ability to
manipulate both life and nature at will. Although he is never successful because he lets the animals
that he experimented on, roam free and none survive long enough to

My Father Research Paper
The person who I consider to be the biggest role model in my life is my father. My father has
been a role model for me ever since I was young, he was the one to show me that if I wanted to
succeed then I had to do so with my own knowledge and with my own capabilities. He was never
the person to shield me from the realities of the world, but at the same time he helped me to
understand what was happening and how these world problems could potentially affect me. He
was the one to show me that life will continue to happen whether or not I was prepared to do so.
My father conveyed to me the importance of searching for opportunities instead of letting them
come to me because life does not work that way. Life is not just going to provide me with help if
I do not give an honest attempt to produce results myself. As a child I looked up to my father,
especially since growing up I was the oldest child of the family. I did not have an older sibling to
look up to and to learn from like my younger siblings which is what made it possible for me to
look up to my father. A main reason that I had for looking up to my father was due to his strong
commitment to go heritage and culture. The fact that my father came to this country as an
immigrant from mexico and he came to this country without anything. No knowledge of the
country and its language, just the basic necessities of life which was some clothes and money,
amazed me. Additionally, my father played as a substantial role model in how I entered society
because of the fact that I grew up not speaking english and so growing up and going to school
was difficult to do since I did not really understand much and it wasn t until a few years of ESL
where I began to pick up english and a more centered idea of the world. As a result, I wanted to
be able to be a good role model for her and to be able to inspire her to follow her dreams and to
have a more optimistic perspective. I considered my father to be my role model because he is
someone who I believe is intelligent, hardworking and honest. He was someone who was always
pushing my sister and I to continue taking challenges that will help us develop into stronger and
knowledgeable young individuals. As an individual who never

Socially Constructed Reality and Meaning in Notes from Underground
Just as the hands in M.C. Escher s Drawing Hands both create and are created by each other, the
identity of man and society are mutually interdependent. According to the model described in The
Sacred Canopy, Peter Berger believes that man externalizes or creates a social reality that is in
turn objectified, or accepted by him as real. This sociological model creates a useful framework for
understanding the narrator s rejection of ultimate reality or truth in Fyodor Dostoevsky s Notes from
Underground. The reality in which the narrator tries to live in part II, and the reality that he rejects
in part I, are both created and, as such, are ultimately meaningless. ... Show more content on

Just as the hands of Escher s illustration define each other, man and society are in a constant process
of mutual recreation.
Successful internalization is exemplified by the underground man of part II. In this section, the
narrator s actions are dominated by a desire to fulfill his socially defined roles. Often calling his
actions bookish, the underground man tries to act out traditional cultural relationships. In his
relationship with Liza the narrator sees an opportunity to fulfill the role of the hero, uplifting the
poor, wretched prostitute. He asks her about her home life and warns her about the sickness she
could catch from her occupation, all in an attempt to play the hero and save this dejected prostitute.
The manufactured hero reflects,
I began to feel what I was saying and grew excited. I d been longing to expound these cherished
little ideas that I d been nurturing in my corner. Something had caught fire in me, some kind of
goal had manifested itself before me. (Dostoevsky 65). These
cherished little ideas are the cultural norms that the underground man is trying to fulfill. The
narrator s interactions with other characters in part II reflect a desire on his part to live out
archetypical roles. When he feels insulted by the officer, the narrator clings to the romantic notion
of vindicating himself through a duel. After detailing his plan to confront the officer

Louisiana Wetlands Research Paper
A wetland is an area of land that retains it water on it surface as in swamps, marshes, and bogs.
Although we would prefer to keep the wetlands they are being destroyed very rapidly. Louisiana
loses about 25 35 square miles of wetlands each year. By 2050 it s estimated that the annual loss of
fishing income due to coastal wetlanderosion will be around $550 million dollars of revenue. The
wetlands are valuable in many ways. They provide fish for commercial fishing and eating. The
wetlands also act as a sponge for floodwater during storms and heavy rains. Also retaining its
water during dry spells as a flash flood preventer. When it comes to the culture of Louisiana, the

A swamp is a wetland that has a very high concentration of woody plants. The soil has a very
lackluster drainage system and retains the majority of its water that it soaks up. Swamps are
deeper than marshes (another type of wetland) which can be about 3 feet deep. You can find a
swamp on slow moving streams, rivers, or low isolated areas. An example of an area that low
and isolated would be the Everglades in Florida, which are a massive system of wetlands.
Although you may think of a swamps as having mainly trees, some swamps are completely
dominated by shrubs. Those are the two categories of a swamp: Shrubs and Trees. Swamps are a
wetland, and wetlands are known for having an abundance of animals, some of those are:
Alligators, beavers, otters, snakes, insect, bobcats, and very large amounts of birds. Swamps
have rich soils for sustaining plant life as in the cypress tree. Cypress trees have a reputation of
being able to sustain being submerged in water and not dying from it. This is most stems from the
fact that the cypress tree grows with its roots and part of its base

South Park Censorship
Freedom of expression entitles humans to articulate our own unique vocabulary, especially when
their opinions differ from others. South Park is a notorious paragon tackling censorship
boundaries with brilliant wordplay every episode and implementing freedom of speech. For me,
the program serves as a weekly litmus test of censorship and freedom of expression. South Parkis
the brainchild of college friends Trey Parkerand Matt Stone. This TV show, on the Comedy
Central Network, is a cartoon but not for children. On August 13, 1997, the first airing, South Park
became the first major cable program to get the TV MA rating (for mature audiences only). The

South Park wanted to show homage to the French satirical paper that published comedic pictures
of Muhammad. The creators dedicated 200 and 201 to the paper after their own convictions;
both episodes would feature Muhammad as well. Comedy Central received threats of extreme
violence if the prophet Muhammad was displayed in any way on the show. The creative group
behind South Park was prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200,
Muhammad is in a truck to include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were
concerned about the approach of giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially backing down
altogether. The boundaries regarding freedom of expression should not adjust to the whims or
threats of bullies otherwise known as terrorists. The network received more threats of terror and
the morning of the airing of 201, the network censored Muhammad with a giant box all over his
face with CENSORED written on it. There are no copies of 201 uncensored available whatsoever
and you can only watch the episode on the commemorative DVD package of the season. There is
still absolutely no streaming of any kind for either episode, almost 10 years

In this case, Carbolic Smoke Ball Company has published an advertisement in London newspaper to promote the use of the Carbolic Smoke Ball to prevent influenza. In the advertisement, the company offered ВЈ 100 to the people, who bought the smoke balls and used them according the instructions given, but still contracted influenza. Mrs Carlill purchased the smoke balls after she read the advertisement. She used them according the directions, but nevertheless caught influenza. She claimed for the ВЈ 100 which promised by the company but they refused to pay her. The court had to decide whether an offer that made to the world at large is valid to accept by an individual who read the advertisement or not. The court judged that the offer made to the whole world at large is the acceptance of the offer by everyone who knew about it. Acceptance is an agreement on the terms of an offer. It must be made when the offer is still present. Terms of acceptance must be unanimous with the offer and cannot be conditional. It can only come from the person to whom the offer was made. Apart from that, acceptance must be communicated with the offeror and no certain form is necessary (Duperouzel 2014). According to the general rule of acceptance, the acceptance is effective immediately when received. Once the acceptance is communicated to the offeror, the acceptance is effective and the agreement is reached. The case of Entores Ltd v ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Objectivists View on a Charles DickensВґChristmas Carol... Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is considered by many to be a classic for all the ages, if an objectivist point of view is used to analyse the social and political undertones of the story they will agree with most of it, if not all of it. One of the major parts that an objectivist would agree with in A ChristmasCarol is how scrooge thinks of and how he treats the poor and infirm. Scrooge further develops his objectivist ideology by being completely self interested in both his personal and professional life. After Scrooge is visited by the three apparitions he is radically changed from a self interested, objectivist, to a positive and uplifting altruist. In Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol , an objectivist would agree with Scrooge s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another instant where Scrooge shows an objectivist behavior towards people poorer than he is when, the clerk s fire is very small the clerk s fire was so very much smaller that it looked like one coal. But he couldn t replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal box in his own room; and so surely as the clerk came in with the shovel, the master predicted that it would be necessary for them to part. Wherefore the clerk put on his white comforter, and tried to warm himself at the candle; in which effort, not being a man of a strong imagination, he failed (7). Scrooge sees even the tiniest of waste or usage of materials a meaning for dismissal, even if the usage of materials is being used to better or help out another human. This shows Scrooges objective character because, he does not believe any materials should be used on the poor and everything thing should only be used for his own self interest. Expanding on Scrooges ideology of objectivism is when No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o clock, no man or woman ever once in all his life inquired the way to such and such a place, of Scrooge. Even the blind men s dogs appeared to know him; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Lowland By Jhumpa Lahiri ISU ESSAYDamon Liu The Lowland written by Jhumpa Lahiri, deals with character s lives, that are intertwined over the distance between the United States and India. The book follows Subhash, the main protagonist of the story, as he adapts to the constant changes that come with settling far from his birthplace. The novel not only connects the colourful cast of characters, but the reader as well. Lahiri achieves this by creating a set of diverse characters with varying personalities, presenting concepts, themes and motifs, and establishing a strong sense of atmosphere. In doing so, The Lowland is a good book for high school students to study Within this novel, the reader is introduced a wide spectrum of characters, each with various personalities and emotions. The writing style itself jumps from multiple character s perspectives, expanding on what a typical third person narrative could achieve. This allows for more in depth thoughts of all the characters, while still retaining the ability to move between multiple characters that the third person style of narrative grants. Each individual in the story is distinctive with one another. Take Subhash, a quiet and cautious character, or Udayan, whose personality is that of confidence and tenacity. Or Gauri, who craves independence, even if the actions taken for said independance are rash and imprudent. All of the personalities found within this novel, however different they may be, are intertwined and affect each other. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Biblical Texts Of The Jewish People For the Jewish people, Jerusalem has long been regarded as a special city, chosen by God as he chose the people of Israel. The importance of Jerusalem in the Jewish religious tradition can be traced back to the Hebrew Bible, in which narratives describe the events which make the city sacred. However, these events alone do not make Jerusalema sacred place; the biblical texts also work together to portray the importance and holiness of Yahweh, the Godof Israel. The concept of sacredness is also highlighted by Mircea Eliade, who theorized about how a sacred place comes into existence. The biblical texts support Eliade s ideas of the sacred by narrating repeated hierophanies and promises, working together to reveal the importance of the divine to the people of ancient Israel. Eliade s primary concept is that of the axis mundi, around which everything else revolves. An axis mundi is a connection between earth and the supernatural, where humans and the cosmic can come together (Eliade, 37). Becoming sacred, according to Eliade, is made possible through a hierophany, an experience through which the divine manifests itself (21). This hierophany sets a place apart, creating a break in homogeneity that separates it from the profane (Eliade, 63). He also emphasizes the idea that sacredness makes a place real, and becomes a fixed point, a point of reference that people align their whole world to (Eliade, 22). A hierophany opens up the very possibility of a connection with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Winnie was a little girl in the book so, of course, she didn t kiss Jesse. Even though the two liked each other, Winnie, unfortunately, didn t want to live forever like Jesse so she chose the right way for her. Jesse was very sad in both the movie and the book. When Winnie saw Jesse drinking the spring water (which was the key to immortality) Mae, Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and took her away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie away on his horse and left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn t carry four people and run at the same time. Sometimes, because of problems like that, some of the parts in the book are changed in the movie. Miles was very mean in the movie. He s always angry at something and he s very moody. Miles was a very grumpy person, maybe because he is a married man, when he turned immortal. His wife sensed something fishy about the Tucks family and moved out of their household. His wife and children died as time passed by, and he was left behind. He must feel very sad. So he took a role of a big brother and tried to abandon Jesse from liking Winnie. He didn t want his brother to feel the way he feels if Winnie died, or maybe it was just plain jealously because Jesse got to be in love with a girl and he did not. • 12. Abstinence Should Not Teach Students Safe Sex Practices When people of today s world turn on the television, it is easy to see why modesty is out the window. A good portion of the television shows aired have sexualized content, from sexual innuendos in jokes to portraying characters in the act. With this being a known fact, there is no doubt that sex education is important. However, schools are teaching more on the abstinence spectrum. Preaching abstinence does not teach students safe sex practices or a clear understanding of contraception. Abstinence only programs have the best intentions, however they are flawed due to a biased perspective. Schools receiving money from the government, in sponsorship of the program, must teach the students to just say no to sex until legally married. The schools are also not permissible to teach students safe sex and may not mention contraception except to point out failure rates of various methods (Brody). There are a few states that have stood up to the government and refused funds, so the state has the option to determine their own ways to teach sex education. However, 43 states still take part of the program and promote it. Millions of dollars are pulled from the government each year for the program and many schools support the abstinence only movement. The programs have encouraging titles, such as Teens in Control and ReCapturing the Vision (Impacts). Students are greatly encouraged take virginity vows until marriage, carry an ATM card (abstinence till marriage), and conceitedly wear purity rings (Kelly). Programs, such as these, are used to develop a strong self worth and to teach about the negative consequences that could occur from sexual activity, but there is a major flaw: abstinence only programs are inefficient. Studies have shown abstinence only programming does not reduce the sexual activity of young people. In 2007, the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a study about the abstinence programs. The government funded study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being in the Geometric period, these vases started using different shapes, such as spirals, and diamonds, which the previous are styles were not accustomed too. Death and funerary practices are of particular interest to archaeologists, mainly because funerary remains are often some of the best preserved and most widely available resources for studying ancient cultures. Graves and the objects found within them can potentially provide a wealth of information about everything from the life and death of the deceased individual to the beliefs, rituals, and customs of the society as a whole. Funerary remains allow archaeologists a glimpse into the individual s personal taste, socio economic status, and position within society. Perhaps a more credible result of studying these remains, however, is the insight into the ways in which the individual was remembered and regarded by his or her survivors. A large number of Greek vases from the Geometric period (approximately 900 700 BCE) focus on burial and mourning styles. Until that time, many states had laws that excluded children with certain types of disabilities from attending public school. These included children who were blind, deaf and children labeled emotionally disturbed or mentally retarded. Many of these children lived at state institutions where they received limited or no educational services. Having a disability does not automatically qualify a student for special education services under the IDEA. The disability must result in the student needing additional or different services to participate in school. For example, a child who is diagnosed autistic. Children with disabilities who qualify for special education are also automatically protected by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). What s cruel about these attachments, and not merely inconvenient or tragic, is that the subjects who have x in their lives might not well endure the loss of their object or scene of desire, even though its presence threatens their well being; because whatever the content of the attachment is, the continuity of the form of it provides something of the continuity of the subject s sense of what it means to keep on living on and to look forward to being in the world (94). Slavery During The 19th Century Talin Ivey Mr. Decker US Dual Credit History 13 September 2015 Slavery in 17th Century VS Slavery in the late 19th Century Many people view slavery as one consecutive time period where African Americans were captured and kept to serve the needs of Caucasian individuals and families. But not very many people know the true extent of slavery among the colonies. Less are aware of the nature in which slavery evolved from a trading industry in the 17th century into its greater known state of forced labor in the 19th century. When most people hear the word slave, they picture an African American held in bondage by an English slave holder. While this may be an accurate description for many cases, a lot of different ethnic groups would paint a different picture. When the Spanish first came to America, they saw the natives as their tickets to the riches of the new world. As their greed for wealth and agricultural demand rose, the demand for slaves also began to increase. Although, as time began to reveal, the Spaniards also found it hard to keep the native slaves because many of them had allies and since they were native to the land, they knew it pretty well enough to escape. African enslavement really started when the Spaniards began to seek for slaves that were foreign to the land and would survive their harsh treatment and foreign diseases (McDougal 77). Drug Delivery Via The Nasal Route Introduction In the past years, drug delivery via the nasal route has established itself as a competitor and an alternative route over other routes of administration. It provides a higher degree of patient compliance and drugs can be painlessly self administered by the patient (Illum, 2003). Drugs administered through nasal route are absorbed rapidly and can reach therapeutically effective plasma levels quickly due to highly permeable membranes and rich vasculature of the nasal cavity (Majithiya et al., 2006). In addition, the nasal route offers further advantages over the oral route, especially for those drugs that have poor oral bioavailability due to high hepatic first pass metabolism, pH instability and enzyme degradation in GIT (Ugwoke et al., 2001). Nowadays, the intranasal route has gained more interest to target drugs to the brain and cerebro spinal fluid by passing the blood brain barrier. Intranasal formulation of drugs for the treatment of Parkinson s disease (Khan et al., 2010), Alzheimer s disease (Zhang et al., 2004) and psychosis (Kumar et al., 2008) have been elaborated and their therapeutic efficiency over conventional oral dosage form has been verified. This meaning British rule was not very strict when it came to enforcing their parliamentary laws, which were supposed to keep American colonies compliant with England. This lead to colonists autonomy developing, what they thought as the same power, their own legislation. They believed they possessed the same rights as any Englishman. In the 18th century colonists challenged the authority of the parliament with an intellectual and a religious movement. The Enlightenment was a time of rejection to received knowledge, filled with thinkers and searches for laws of nature. The Great Awakening in the 1730 s was a wave of religious revivals sweeping through the colonies, exploring emotional connections to God and reasoning behind the church s rule, impacting religious institutions. Americans seemed to enjoy many freedoms unlike the world around them. They had little sense of unity though and depended on the British military for protection. Tensions between the French and British grew with their increasing conflict over Indian alliances. In 1754 the British were threatened by their French and Indian allies, and responded with the Plan of Albany of which no colonial assemblies approved. He was never the person to shield me from the realities of the world, but at the same time he helped me to understand what was happening and how these world problems could potentially affect me. He was the one to show me that life will continue to happen whether or not I was prepared to do so. My father conveyed to me the importance of searching for opportunities instead of letting them come to me because life does not work that way. Additionally, my father played as a substantial role model in how I entered society because of the fact that I grew up not speaking english and so growing up and going to school was difficult to do since I did not really understand much and it wasn t until a few years of ESL where I began to pick up english and a more centered idea of the world. As a result, I wanted to be able to be a good role model for her and to be able to inspire her to follow her dreams and to have a more optimistic perspective. I considered my father to be my role model because he is someone who I believe is intelligent, hardworking and honest. He was someone who was always pushing my sister and I to continue taking challenges that will help us develop into stronger and knowledgeable young individuals. As an individual who never ... • 52. Socially Constructed Reality and Meaning in Notes from... Socially Constructed Reality and Meaning in Notes from Underground Just as the hands in M.C. Escher s Drawing Hands both create and are created by each other, the identity of man and society are mutually interdependent. According to the model described in The Sacred Canopy, Peter Berger believes that man externalizes or creates a social reality that is in turn objectified, or accepted by him as real. This sociological model creates a useful framework for understanding the narrator s rejection of ultimate reality or truth in Fyodor Dostoevsky s Notes from Underground. The reality in which the narrator tries to live in part II, and the reality that he rejects in part I, are both created and, as such, are ultimately meaningless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as the hands of Escher s illustration define each other, man and society are in a constant process of mutual recreation. Successful internalization is exemplified by the underground man of part II. In this section, the narrator s actions are dominated by a desire to fulfill his socially defined roles. Often calling his actions bookish, the underground man tries to act out traditional cultural relationships. In his relationship with Liza the narrator sees an opportunity to fulfill the role of the hero, uplifting the poor, wretched prostitute. He asks her about her home life and warns her about the sickness she could catch from her occupation, all in an attempt to play the hero and save this dejected prostitute. The manufactured hero reflects, I began to feel what I was saying and grew excited. I d been longing to expound these cherished little ideas that I d been nurturing in my corner. Something had caught fire in me, some kind of goal had manifested itself before me. (Dostoevsky 65). These cherished little ideas are the cultural norms that the underground man is trying to fulfill. The narrator s interactions with other characters in part II reflect a desire on his part to live out archetypical roles. When he feels insulted by the officer, the narrator clings to the romantic notion of vindicating himself through a duel. After detailing his plan to confront the officer ... • 53. Louisiana Wetlands Research Paper A wetland is an area of land that retains it water on it surface as in swamps, marshes, and bogs. Although we would prefer to keep the wetlands they are being destroyed very rapidly. Louisiana loses about 25 35 square miles of wetlands each year. By 2050 it s estimated that the annual loss of fishing income due to coastal wetlanderosion will be around $550 million dollars of revenue. The wetlands are valuable in many ways. They provide fish for commercial fishing and eating. The wetlands also act as a sponge for floodwater during storms and heavy rains. Also retaining its water during dry spells as a flash flood preventer. When it comes to the culture of Louisiana, the wetlands play a very large role in it, mainly in seafood. The soil has a very lackluster drainage system and retains the majority of its water that it soaks up. Swamps are deeper than marshes (another type of wetland) which can be about 3 feet deep. You can find a swamp on slow moving streams, rivers, or low isolated areas. An example of an area that low and isolated would be the Everglades in Florida, which are a massive system of wetlands. Although you may think of a swamps as having mainly trees, some swamps are completely dominated by shrubs. Those are the two categories of a swamp: Shrubs and Trees. • 54. South Park Censorship Freedom of expression entitles humans to articulate our own unique vocabulary, especially when their opinions differ from others. South Park is a notorious paragon tackling censorship boundaries with brilliant wordplay every episode and implementing freedom of speech. For me, the program serves as a weekly litmus test of censorship and freedom of expression. South Parkis the brainchild of college friends Trey Parkerand Matt Stone. This TV show, on the Comedy Central Network, is a cartoon but not for children. On August 13, 1997, the first airing, South Park became the first major cable program to get the TV MA rating (for mature audiences only). The main characters are Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, the forever dying Kenny McCormick,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... South Park wanted to show homage to the French satirical paper that published comedic pictures of Muhammad. The creators dedicated 200 and 201 to the paper after their own convictions; both episodes would feature Muhammad as well. Comedy Central received threats of extreme violence if the prophet Muhammad was displayed in any way on the show. The creative group behind South Park was prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200, Muhammad is in a truck to include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were concerned about the approach of giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially backing down altogether. The boundaries regarding freedom of expression should not adjust to the whims or threats of bullies otherwise known as terrorists. The network received more threats of terror and the morning of the airing of 201, the network censored Muhammad with a giant box all over his face with CENSORED written on it. There are no copies of 201 uncensored available whatsoever and you can only watch the episode on the commemorative DVD package of the season. There is still absolutely no streaming of any kind for either episode, almost 10 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
