Judging People Research Paper
We live in a society that is solely focused on appearance and how we look to others. Look at the
people around you and what is the first thing you notice? You might see their hair color, skin
tone, and their clothing. Though while you are doing that you could be making silent
observations. Why do we do that? People say away from the people who look dangerous and
people will like the people who are attractive. Though when it comes to judging appearance it s
something that is a part of our lives. Is it good? Is it bad? When humans judge one another it comes
from an evolutionary adaptation, however in modern times with a structured society it is not
acceptable to do so.

Our mind should avoid the impulse of determining the causes of events until a wide range of
evidence is gathered and assessed from many different sources and traditions. (Torres, Raymond.
Why Judging by Appearance Can Be Harmful. The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, n.d.
Web. 14 Jan. 2017.) We are quick to make judgements on people s lives completely based on how
we see them at that particular moment. One can make the assumption that you are lazy if you
come into work late or not properly dressed. Though they don t know the true story, you could be
having an off day or something is currently happening in your life. Humans are so focused on
being right on our observations that when we told something other than what we think we refuse
to believe it. Raymond Torrs states that, It s hard to understand the nature of other people or the
natural world, if all we really care to know is any and everything that comes out of our own mind.
This attitude constrains our ability to find out more about any issue. We assume that just because
we call something for what it is or what we think it is, that there isn t a composite of underlying
and interactive factors responsible for our observations. (Torres, Raymond. Why Judging by
Appearance Can Be Harmful. The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, n.d. Web. 14 Jan.
2017.) We shouldn t make simple judgements on people by external appearance because it is
superficial and often unfair. After all, you don t know what circumstances the person might be
facing or who the person really is. Perhaps the person comes from a less fortunate family than you
and cannot afford the kind of stylish clothes your friends wear. However, that does not mean the
person is less intelligent or interesting than you are. People have the lack of discernment which

The Consequences Of The English And Norman Conquests...
The people who inhabited Great Britain between 450 and 1066, were referred to as Anglo Saxons
and they included people from German tribes that had migrated from Europe, their descendants, and
individuals from British groups that associated with the Anglo Saxon culture and language. This
period provided a flourishing of literature and language, the establishment of laws, creation of the
English Nation, and re establishment of Christianity. Culture began changing for the Anglo Saxon
people that lived through the conquest of Cnut in 1016 and that of William of Normandyin 1066.
Following the conquests, the nobility of Anglo Saxon people were either exiled or became
peasants. The English nobles had very specific obligations to William in return for their fiefs such
as; castle building, military service, and the training of additional knights. The Norman Conquest
became far more revolutionary than its Danish predecessor. (P. 336). Enormous consequences
flowed because the English and Normanswere quite two different people. (p. 336).
It was a fatal day for England during the Battle of Hastings and had caused an exchange in old
masters for new. The English were abandoned to greed and lust, lax in their religion, and addicted
to hot mulled cider. They lived in small houses and preferred to don their skin with gold, eat until
they were sick, and drink until they spewed. The Normans tended to dress well, were particular
about their food, and much more religious. They built

The Interlopers By Saki
The Interlopers by Saki, is a story mixed with man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self,
conflict. The resolution is a very surprising twisted fate however. In the beginning we learn of the
three generation long quarrel between the Gradwitz s and the Znaeym s. A famous law suit, in the
days of his grandfather (152). The boys grow up hating each other and wishing each other
misfortune, and even death upon each other. as boys they had thirsted for one another s blood, as
men each prayed that misfortune might fall on the other (152). On that night both of the men
separate from their groups in search of each other. After a few minutes of searching they find each
other. But as fate may have it, nature strikes both men. Suddenly the harsh

Positive And Negative Factors Of Mood Causes In Adolescent...
Adolescents are known for being moody, impulsive and emotional. They make decisions based
on how they re feeling without thinking about any consequences. Friends are crucial at this
point in life, but the having the right friends is even more important. Peer pressure is a part of
everyday life, however it can be either good or bad. Selection of affiliation is when people select
the people they want to be around and form friendships with. Affiliation is when people gravitate
toward others with like values and interests and provide support for context for views and
behavior. Past research has shown that mood components can spread among adolescent peer
networks. These components include both positive and negative characteristics. Yet, it seems
highly more probable that negative mood can spread throughout the network and affect the
adolescent friends (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). Preceding research used the same in
home interview surveys as in this study, with adolescents as their participants. A list of recorded
school friends was present and the mood of the participating individual was scored based on the
Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale. The scale was from 0 54, the higher the
number the worse the mood that was indicated. Previous studies have found a link between
mood disorders in adolescents and social support; other experiments show that emotional state of
an individual can be affected by exposure to different levels of mood (Eyre, House, Hill,
Griffiths, 2017). Over the years, researchers have found that other illnesses are spread from person
to person via social contagion. Behavior based illnesses such as obesity and smoking cessation
have been proven to have been spread among peers. Friendships form because of common interests,
dislikes and things in common. Friendships are an open path for spread of attitude toward certain
things. Both healthy and unhealthy mood spreads and even components of depression, but
depression itself does not spread. The authors had not found any evidence of consideration of
depression symptoms in previous experiments (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). However, in this
study, they accounted for: anhedonia (loss of interest), poor appetite,

Walt Disney Creating A Sense Of Nostalgia Essay
Creating a Sense of Nostalgia
Walt Disney s remarkable legacy that he s left behind includes all of his creations through the 20th
century. His cartoon films and theme parks have targeted a young audience and most of us can
recall watching Disney movies at a young age according to Barrier, Practically everyone knows
Disney the corporation, the movies, the theme parks... or going to Disneyland or Walt Disney
World for the first time when we were little (Barrier 152). Sometimes we get caught up in a
hectic life and we lose sight of our own happiness. Revisiting these old times such as watching a
Disney movie that you used to at a young age or spending some time in one of Walt s theme
parks brings a sense of nostalgia. For a brief moment you are taken back and remember that life
is not so bad and you are emerged in happiness. Typically, we tend to have good memories
connected with those films or theme parks, because as a child, responsibilities and worries didn t
exist yet and times were much simpler.

goal was that Snow White infuses hope and positivity into a society struggling with the
Depression. (Monet 111). This goes to show how moving and effective that Walt Disney films
inspire others that there is good and hope in the world. Walt Disney s films helped americans

These films gave everyone a bit of hope that they were struggling to find in these hard times. Walt

Missions
In the 18th century, what is now California was populated mostly by Native Americans. Late in the
century, Franciscan missions sponsored by Spain and the Roman Catholic church played an
important role in establishing European settlement in the region. The Spaniards, who had already
colonized parts of Mexico to the south, wanted to protect those colonies and extend their influence
northward. The Roman Catholic church wanted to convert Native Americans to Christianity. The
mission system supported both goals. The first Franciscan mission in California (Mission San
Diego de AlcalГЎ) was established by Father JunГpero Serra in what in now San Diego. Fifty four
years later in 1823, the Franciscans founded their last of 21 missions at San Francisco Solano. Each
mission had an armed presidio to protect it. Each sought to teach the Native Americans both
Christianity and European farming methods. Many of the mission churches remain today as living

For as long as there have been wars, there have been warriors who survive and yet become as
much casualties of battle as those who died (Blair). Founded in 2003 in Roanoke, Virginia, by a

The Need to Reform or Abolish The Electoral College Essay
The Electoral College is the United States archaic process of electing presidents. It was
established in the Constitution as a compromise between election by Congress and election by
popular vote. Each state is given a specific number of electors based on the number of its U.S.
Representatives and Senators (NARA). This allows for over representation of small states and
under representation of large states, while the winner takes all format followed by most states could
result in a candidate winning the popular vote but losing the election(NARA). This has actually
happened on four separate occasions, leaving four black marks on the nation s history (NARA).
Despite these mishaps and constant calls for reform, the faulty system remains in... Show more

While this has never changed the outcome of an election, the possibility is still there, and that
alone should be cause enough for one to advocate reform (Fairvote.org). Twenty four states,
including Indiana, do not legally require electors to vote for a specific candidate (NARA). In
these states, electors can essentially vote for whoever they want, and face no charges. Electors
in the remaining twenty six states and Washington, D.C. are bound by state law or pledges to
vote for a specific candidate (NARA). However, the penalties in these states are usually trivial,
and rarely enforced (Fairvote.org). One or several rogue electors could easily disregard the
popular opinion of the state, such as in Virginia during the 1836 election. Virginia s popular vote
saw Martin Van Buren and running mate Richard Mentor Johnson on top of the polls. However,
Johnson wasn t particularly popular in southern states, as he had previously been in a relationship
with a mulatto slave. As a result, the twenty three Virginia electors instead cast their vice
presidential votes for William Smith, leaving Johnson with the most electoral votes but one shy of
a majority. The vote then went to the Senate, where Johnson was finally elected as Vice President.
The election came dangerously close to being soiled by the bigoted Virginia electors, but thankfully
all was set right by the Senate under the provisions of

The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli Summary
Niccolo Machiavelli s abstract work of The Prince discusses politics and government and focuses in
not only acquiring power, but also how to maintain it. Throughout his work, one of the most
prevalent yet disputed themes is between the acquirement of states between principalities and
republics. The Princeshows a predominant and constant debate on which group will excel in
acquiring power. However, despite Machiavelli s harsh criticisms on principalities, his work does
not solely praise or focus on the excellence of republics. In fact, as Machiavelli continues to speak
and provide examples about the successes and failures of both republics and principalities, it
becomes clearer that the lone purpose of The Princeis to merely provide tactics in political
governance, instruction on how to maintain power once it is acquired, and most importantly, advice
on how to become a great leader.
One of the most prevalent themes found in Machiavelli s The Prince is the theme of fortune.
Machiavelli, though in disguise, focuses on the theme of fortune in chapter four and explains how
it plays a heavy role in acquiring power. Chapter four begins in introducing states ruled by a prince
with barons and states ruled by a prince with appointed ministers, and continues by distinguishing
the similarities and differences between the two groups. For states ruled by a prince with
hereditary barons, Machiavelli claims that power is easier to acquire as the prince receives help in
conquering the

The company of 60 70 US men entered My Lai and destroyed houses, livestock, and all inhabitants
they could find in less than 20 minutes.
No other resistance was encountered.
Some villagers were herded into ditches where they were shot. Still other groups were taken to a
southern trail and shot there. Members of the 2nd Platoon killed at least sixty to seventy
Vietnamese men, women, and children. The 2nd platoon also committed several rapes of the
women. Military photographers recorded graphic images of bodies dumped in ditches. Many of
these photos were given to Time Magazine and published. (Time 1) A group of about 70 80
Vietnamese were killed in a mass execution in the same fashion. Orders were given during the
morning to stop the mass killings. The 2nd platoon stopped at 0920 hours, but the 1st platoon
didn t stop until 1030 hours when the orders were repeated. There were only twenty five or so
Vietnamese survivors who excaped by hiding under the bodies of their neighbors and relatives.
This was not an isolated incident however, while the massacre at My Lai was taking place there
was a similar mission of nearby My Khe of a lesser magnitude. The death toll in My Khe was
over 90 women and children, but far less than the estimated tolls of My Lai. The estimates of My
Lai deaths of non combatants ranges from 175 450+. Only one US soldier was killed in action, and

Dover Beach Poem By George Orwell
The poem, Dover Beach, written by Matthew Arnold, tells us a tragic story. The poem describes
the change from old world to the new, it elaborates how lonely it can really be in the modern
world. Arnold, tackles the rough stuff in life, like war, suffering, loss of belief and loneliness.
Now, the novel 1984, written by George Orwell, warns us about totalitarianism. The novel
describes a state with little privacy and your mind and actions are all monitored. Orwell,
showcases many struggles in life, to mention some are, power, warfare, rebellion and repression.
While Orwell could have got the motivation from everyday life, I believe Orwell used Dover Beach
as a stimulus to write 1984 because at times we find ourselves isolation from the world, warfare
is a part of us, we grow up with it surrounding us and the belief of faith, of religion is decreasing in
the world.

Arnold, mentions a line in Dover Beach, and we are here as on a darkling plain swept with

Arnold sees life ahead as a continual battle against the darkness, with this line he paints a violent
imagery of a battlefield, this gives an empathic, distorted feeling to the end of the poem. Orwell,
uses the darkness and violent imagery of the battlefield when he wrote, the consciousness of
being at war, and therefore in danger makes the handing over of all power to a small caste seem
natural, unavoidable condition of survival (part 2, chapter 9, page 192). Orwell, viewed the

Do the Pure Culture Symptoms Observations Match? At the beginning of the experiment, the
samples had visible hyphae and black fruiting bodies, which appear to be visible in the re infected
fruit samples. Both the samples have distinct zones of mycelial growth and colonization. In the

the TCP/IP Internet Layer supports only the connectionless Internet Protocol (IP).
Message forwarding: This is the most important function of network layer. Since many networks are
partitioned into sub networks and connect to other networks for wide area communications,
networks use specialized hosts, called gateways or routers to forward packets between networks.
Datagram Encapsulation:
Network layer performs encapsulation of messages received from higher layers by placing them
into datagrams which are also referred to as packets with a network layer header.
Fragmentation and Reassembly:
The major function of the network layer is transmitting messages down to the data link layer. Some
data link layer technologies consist of certain limitations on the length of any message that can be
sent. If the packet that the network layer wants to send is too large, the network

Theories Of Motivation By Herzberg And Vroom
1.Introduction
Due to a German proverb, It is commonly believed, that every human being has something that
drives him . In this context, the incentive of doing a special task has its roots in the motivation of
a person. The motivation of a person is generally based on personal expectations, values and overall
objectives.
Therefore, it is true that whether in our jobs or elsewhere in life, when we are grounded by our
core values and principles, we derive a sense of inner strength and confidence that enhances our
effectiveness (Froman 61). According to this, motivation plays an important role especially in the
work place in order to become more productive and therefore successful. This raises the question, if

Solving The Foreclosure Crisis That Devastated The Nation...
Many Americans have and still have been haunted by their pasts. Most of us have learned not to
judge others by backgrounds or past choices, but when it comes to financial credit, our pasts are
not so easily overlooked. With the slow but sure recovery of the foreclosure crisis that devastated
the nation years ago, hangs a hand of hope that offers a second chance to boomerang buyers who
merely just want to get back into home ownership. The rent to own option is the best choice for
these buyers who want a second shot to do it all over.
In its simplest terms, renting to own means that a piece of property such as a home is leased in
exchange for payment. This payment is owed either monthly or weekly depending on the owner
who places the house up for lease. Although, with this option the buyer has the chance to purchase
the house through time.
When people buy a home they have to pay extra amounts that are not covered by the actual price
of the home. These extra expenses include down payments and closing costs. With the rent to own
option buyers will only pay a security rental deposit and also have the choice of paying an option
deposit as well.
Another benefit that comes along with this option is the flexibility it provides for the buyers. The
owners whom are leasing the house to these buyers will not discredit them because of their bad past
credits. They will simply continue their agreement with the buyer if they see that payments are
being made when they are supposed to.

Baby Friendly Initiative
As well as being involved in the main care of the mother during her pregnancy midwives are also

Evidence based standards have been developed for maternity, neonatal, health visiting/ public health
nursing and children s centre services. Implementation of these standards will improve the care and
support that pregnant women, new mothers and their families receive to build a strong relationship
with, and feed and care for, their baby.
The baby friendly initiative aims to protect, promote and support breastfeeding and close, loving
parent infant relationships by working with public services to improve standards of care. It is the
first ever national intervention to have a positive effect on breastfeeding rates in the UK.
Research found that UK mothers delivering in Baby Friendly accredited hospitals are 10% more

Chuck Klosterman s Lesson Essay
Life is beautiful and mysterious. Therefore, there are things that seem to happen like what we
expect but it actually results oppositely. The more we expect the more disappointed we will get
when the outcome turns out wrong. That is the lesson I learned from reading the four essays by
Chuck Klosterman: What We Talk About When We Talk About Ralph Sampson, Through a Glass,
Blindly, Passion of the Garth and Ha ha, he said. Ha ha . What We Talk About When We Talk
About Ralph Sampson talks about Ralph Sampson, he is a basketballplayer. During his career, he

People always want more than what they already have. Klosterman writes about different scenarios
where something more is being sought after and ultimately results in failure. This is also
considered greed. Sampson and Anders always want to try hard to compete with each other players
to get the more love from fans and oppositely the neglect is what they received when they retire.
Through a Glass, Blindly the author spent a lot of time spying the neighbor woman. In result, he
did not learn anything from that. Talking about greed, the scenario that would be the best example
is Garth Brooks and his career. Being on the top of his repute, Garth Brooks still tries to be his
alter ego Chris Gains; and falls short of himself. Failure also happens in media; the media tries so
desperately to be funny that they add laugh tracks in comedy shows and only to become
annoying. These four stories are similar; Whether it is an athlete trying to win validation, the
guy in the window who is trying to find common things in someone s life with his life, Garth
Brooks desire to be better than he already is, a sitcom being funny . They are all seeking a
purpose in life and showing the interaction between people. Trying hard does not mean that we
will get satisfied outcomes. Klosterman makes valid points about greed with oneself in constant
desire for more. Also, appreciation for what they already have. Each story is an example; From
sports, to media, to

s novel The Bluest Eye follows young Pecola Breedlove through her dismal life as she is
repeatedly worn down by the pressures from both the dominant white society and the African
American community she is a part of. Pecola is neglected or ignored by almost everyone she

Breedlove s fundamental misinterpretation of her role in white society is representative of every
African American in the novel and how they fail to reality test . Similar to how Mrs. Breedlove
cannot meaningfully distinguish between her two worlds, Cholly also fails due to his traumatizing
childhood and Pecola even has a conversation with an imaginary figure at the end, showing her
confusion of internal and external reality. The African American characters exhibit a
misunderstanding of their reality, incapable of comprehending their roles in their community
versus the oppressive white one that surrounds them. Although it might seem like there are some
seemingly unaffected African American characters, such as the narrator Claudia, they also
demonstrate abnormal behavior. Claudia, for example, has an irrational hatred of things, such as
the Fishers daughter and dolls, because she cannot separate their external existence from her
internal opinions. Through closely analyzing Mrs. Breedlove s portrayal as an animal while in
white society, one can recognize how every African American character in the novel is like Mrs.
Breedlove in that they share an inability to fully understand how their role in white society is

Traditional Bridal Dowry Box as a Social Evil in Indian...
A satirical website created in 2011 calculates the amount of dowry women need in order to marry
the men of their choice. The website mocks India s social evil, and it exposes some of the
unhealthy factors families consider in order to arrive to dowry rate. Some of the factors are caste,
education of the groom and even skin color. In Indiathe custom of dowry is a very old tradition that
originated in the 13th or 14th century, when women were not given any share from paternal wealth
and when women were regarded as the property of either their fathers or their husbands. At that
time, dowry was giving women some pre mortem inheritance and some economic security.
Traditionally it was a Stridhanam daughter s wedding settlement, but in 20th... Show more content

The passages suggest Roy s critique of the institution of dowry. Thus the excerpts bring value to
the whole book itself and help Roy pursue her goal of criticizing the Indian society through
literature and show how outdated the concept of a dowry is. These passages have also an
importance because they challenge the society in a way that dowry, a widely used tradition by the
people, is depicted as old fashioned. Arundhati Roy depicts dowry as old fashioned when she
describes the hotel Heritage. Author says: The furniture and knickknacks that came with the house
were on display. A reed umbrella, a wicker couch. A wooden dowry box. They were labeled with
edifying placards that said Traditional Kerala Umbrella and Traditional Bridal Dowry box. (Roy
120) It is interesting how the dowry box is on the display as in the museum in order to show well
known but old Indian tradition to the tourists and guests. Roy s description of dowry in these three
different situations lets the reader understand how Roy tries to progress dowry from being used in
Ammu s situation, to not being important as in Rahel s situation and later being an antique in the
hotel.
Arundhati Roy uses different writing techniques in order to emphasize her criticism of the
system and voice her opinions as a political activist. There is no doubt that Roy cleverly uses
diction and flow in order to more clearly depict to the reader her vision of dowry as an old
fashioned concept , as

Television Advertising Effects
Television has a tremendous impact on the American culture. Even though television has positive
effects, the negative effects of television outweigh the positive effects. The majority of television
watched is through advertisements. Television advertisements have a great impact on Americans,
especially the youth. In fact, a young person views 40,000 televisionadvertisements per year
(Committee on Communications). Concerning a child s developing cognition and social pressures,

Most advertisements purpose is to try to sell a product. This exposure to commercialism can lead
the child to adopt a materialistic viewpoint. The more the child sees, the more the child will want.
This may be beneficial for the seller, but this may be harmful for the child. This wanting may
eventually lead to dissatisfaction of what they already have and to covet what others have. Those
expecting material possessions to bring happiness may in fact experience satisfaction from their
goods for a time, but through adaptation processes dissatisfaction will eventually reassert itself
(Richins). Adolescents who are working through self consciousness and self doubt may rely on
consumption symbols for self expression and self worth and to manifest materialism to a greater
extent than adults (Pechmann). Tension in families may arise, as well, for researchers have found
that parent child conflicts occur commonly when parents deny their children s product purchase
requests that were precipitated by advertising (APA).
Television advertisements can impact a child s health. The impact not only effects their physical
health but also effects their mental health. For physical health, commercials have been linked to
obesity. Studies have documented that a high percentage of advertisements targeting children
feature candy, fast foods, and snacks and that exposure to such advertising increases consumption of
these products (APA). For the majority of ads, the

who would lead in the design of the project. Four distinguished names were selected as finalists in
the design and development of the park. Those 4 names were William Saunders, Edwin Durang,
Andrew Pallas, and the firm of Sidney Adams (Smith 286). Saunders specialized in the design of
Gardening, Pallas was a landscape engineer, Durang was specialized in church design, and
Sydney Adams were known for landscape and villa architecture (Smith 287). The firm of
Sydney Adams was granted the ultimate prize of designing the park and locals became very

REL 1330 Introduction to Christianity HONORS Section

Comparison between Genesis 1 Genesis 2 The story of creation begins with Genesis 1 and 2, it
explains how the world and it s living inhabitants were created from God s touch. From Genesis 1
we see how the sky, seas, land, animals, and mankind were created. However Genesis 2 focuses
more on the first of mankind, known as Adam and Eve and how they are made to be. In this paper
I will compare Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 and what the main idea for creation is in each one,
however in my opinion there is no contradiction between the two. Genesis 2 merely fills in the
details that are headlined in Genesis 1. In Genesis 1 we learn how God created the ... Show more

Another possibility is that there were two stories being told and the writer could not decide
which one to put in the bible, so he put both. Though there are two clashing stories, the basic
idea for this story of creation can still be seen. This might explain why Genesis 1 has a broader
spectrum of creation and why Genesis 2 focuses mainly on the creation of man. In Genesis 1 the
names of man are not even mentioned. In Genesis 2 however we come to learn that their names
are Adam (male) and Eve (female). Also in Genesis 2 we learn exactly how Eve is created; Goad
takes a rib from Adam and makes Eve from that rib. Then she is called woman, because she is
made from man (Gen 2:23). This appears nowhere in Genesis 1.
Another possibility is that Genesis was also put in the Bible to show us how important the
creation of man was. After all we are the only things that God created in his image (Gen 1:26).
God makes a garden in Eden and puts Adam in the eastern part of Eden to care over and keep it
in order. He then instructs him about what trees to eat from and which to not eat from. Before
God makes him a helper (on the 6th day) he brings all the creatures to Adam to name all the
animals and birds (Gen 2:15). Then God reflects back at what he previously made before man.
(Gen 1:24 25 explains the creatures made from the earth according to its kind ) and has Adam
name them before he puts him asleep to operate on him to give him his wife

How Far Does the Disaster of 1898 Account for the Growth...
How far does the disaster of 1898 account for the growth of Catalan and Basque nationalism?
The humiliating defeat of Spain to America during the Spanish American War of 1898 dealt a
catastrophic blow to the Spanish nation. In the subsequent Treaty of Paris signed on December 10th
1898, Spain relinquished its remaining colonial territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific. The
disaster evoked heavy criticism of the Restoration government and its inherent corruption amongst
many groups within Spanish society and served as a catalyst for the emergence of new political
forces seeking to contest against the ruling oligarchy, most notably Catalan and Basque nationalism.

As such, Catalonian regionalist demands tended to assume a subordinate position in relation to
the greater demands of Spain and its profitable empire. However, the crisis of 1898 engendered
the breaking down of Catalan acquiescence with the Restoration system. The loss of Spain s
colonial territories brought with it the loss of colonial markets that had existed as prime export
outlets for Catalan industry. In the last decade of the nineteenth century Spanish exports to its
colonies had more than doubled from 146.1 million pesatas in 1891 to 365.4 million in 1897,
with the value of Catalonian produce to the colonies reaching a peak of 124 million pesatas in
1895. For the region s major textile industry, the markets of Cuba and Puerto Rico accounted for
one fifth of the entire output of its cotton mills. In surrendering control, by 1902 the territories of
Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines now received just 6.2% of Catalan textile produce, a decline
from 22% in 1896. Within Catalonia, a feeling that defeat had been caused by years of faulty
centralism by a corrupt administration ended any trust Catalan business had placed in the
Restoration system to protect its interests. In the spirit of the Regeneracionismo movement, Catalan
business interests represented by organisations such as the Fomento del Trabajo proposed a
number of reforms designed to regenerate the region in order to compensate for the loss of its vital

Analysis Of The Genocidal Killer In The Mirror
In the article, The Genocidal Killer in the Mirror, Crispin Sartwell focuses more on power and is
concerned with evil. Sartwell states that whether you believe you are among the evil people or
not, you are deeply malicious or a moral hero or just profoundly self deluded. He continues to
point out the timeline of all genocidal events that took place over 500 years, however, he doesn t
list all of the genocidal events during the current timeline. Theodore Dalrymple, the writer of Just

is principled and romantic . However, Dalrymple maintains that in his experience as a doctor,
people who do not obey authority most of the time have unsuccessful relationships and a
tumultuous life. He also emphasizes this by asking a lady on an airplane if she believed in
authority, she states that she disagrees and that authority is restraining. He then challenges her by
asking if it would be all right if he went to the pilot and asked if he could fly the plane. The lady
refuses and states that he does not have the training to fly an aircraft. At this point, Dalrymple
predicaments that we gave the pilot authority to fly the aircraft through his training.
In The Genocidal Killer in the Mirror, Sartwell states that no problem is as profound and no evil
as prevalent as state power, but that furthermore, we all have the decisions to be deeply evil and
that no one should consider oneself too intelligent, humane, or pure. State power isn t evil because
we need laws and regulations to maintain civilization. Sometimes, authority feels as if they are
above the laws because of the status in society. Sartwell then asks, Are you a moral hero? He then
points at Difference in authority. This would be the state, the experts under normal situations. He
also points out, Do you believe what the authorities tell you just because they are authorities?
Although it is possible to see the authorities side before the person decides to follow their orders,
however, this could lead to chaos. In contrast, Just Do What the Pilot Tells You primarily focuses on
the danger contained in blind obedience. Dalrymple looks at Milgram s experiment

Charles W. Chesnutt Thesis
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free... a cry to the world
to send the people most in need of liberty, the wretched, and the homeless to America. This quote
comes from the 1883 sonnet, New Colossus, by Emma Lazarus and is engraved on a plaque
affixed to America s most famous symbol and landmark, the Statue of Liberty. While American
Literature predates Lazarus by a few centuries, her sonnet along with Thomas Jefferson s
contribution in 1776 in the Declaration of Independence help define what makes certain literature
American. Clearly expressing the beliefs of the colonist, Thomas Jefferson, an immigrant, penned to
the world the purpose of what America stood for, the preservation of individual God given... Show

One must not focus narrowly on America to find this definition, but zoom out until the entire
globe is in view to visualize it. From the youngest to the oldest, poorest to the wealthiest, or
single orphan to the largest family to arrive on American shores, they are all changed somewhat,
for better or worse, by the American experience. Admittedly, some may think this is too broad of
a definition, or American Literature is undefinable. I will argue that as long as the idea of what
America promises remains alive, all literature ever inspired by this dream will always be truly and

The Women s Movement Essay
The Women s Movement The women s rights movement was a huge turning point for women
because they had succeeded in the altering of their status as a group and changing their lives of
countless men and women. Gender, Ideology, and Historical Change: Explaining the Women s
Movement was a great chapter because it explained and analyzed the change and causes of the
women s movement. Elaine Tyler May s essay, Cold War
Ideology and the Rise of Feminismand
Women s Liberation and Sixties Radicalism by Alice Echols both gave important but different
opinions and ideas about the women s movement. Also, the primary sources reflect a number of
economic, cultural, political, and demographic influences on the women s movement. This chapter

In her essay she relates the rise of feminist consciousness in the 1960s to numerous changes in
American society, especially the rise of other protest movements. Echols said, On September 7,
1968, the sixties came to that most apple pie of American institutions, the Miss America Pageant
(Echols, 308). The reason she said this was because one hundred women s liberation activists
descended upon Atlantic City to protest the pageant s promotion of physical attractiveness as the
primary measure of women s worth. From there, the protestors set up a Freedom Trash Can and
filled it with high heeled shoes, bras, girdles, hair curlers, false eyelashes, typing books, and
representative copies of Cosmopolitan, Playboy, and Ladies Home Journal. They wanted to burn
the contents but couldn t because of the laws for bonfires on the boardwalk. Also, word had been
leaked to the press that there would be a symbolic bra burning. However, there were no bras burnt
that day. But the image of the bra burning, militant feminists remains part of our popular mythology
about the women s liberation movement. The Miss America demonstration represents an important
moment in the history of the sixties as well as the women s movement (Echols, 309 310). Although
the women s liberation movement only began to take shape toward the end of the decade, it was a
quintessentially sixties movement. The women s liberation movement alone carried on and
extended into the 1970s that

Neuroticism And Extraversion Essay
Personality traits may contribute significantly in influencing SWB. The most repeated finding in
this field is the relationship between Extraversion and positive affect on the impact of SWB (Eid,
Riemann, Angleitner Borkenau, 2003). This connection can work in two ways. To begin with,
people have a tendency to be happier in social circumstances (Pavot, Diener Fujita, 1990), and
they should be happier in light of the fact that extraverts invest more energy socially (Watson,
Clark, McIntyre Hamaker, 1992). Second, Extraversion by and large has a positive effect on
friends, family, and other relationships, while Neuroticism is regularly a negative indicator
(Anderson, John, Keltner Kring, 2001; Belsky, Jaffee, Caspi, Moffit Silva, 2003;... Show more

Literature reviews since the times of Wilson (1967) point to such elements as optimism, sociability
and extraversion as the essential sources, or at least correlates with SWB. Happiness and its
elements are connected differentially and anotomously to the personality traits of Extraversion and
Neuroticism has been broadly recorded since Costa and McCrae (1980) exhibited that positive
affect associates with Extraversion and that negative affect corresponds contrarily with
Neuroticism. Notion that Extraversion is the overwhelming predictor of happiness would seem, by
all accounts, to be plainly obvious in light of the fact that Extraversion is connected with
friendships and social interactions, which are major source of happiness and personal fulfilment in
both private and public life (Campbell, Converse Rodgers, 1976). Moreover, modern culture
implements a high level of social activity and interaction, both due to a constantly expanding
population and on account o an expanding interreliance on others to meet the regular needs of
living (Pavot, Diener Fujita,

Social Science And Remedies For Social Engineering
Introduction
Forty three percent of in house members of organization were accountable for data loss. Twenty
two percent was intentional data loss. Twenty one percent was accidental according to Intel
Security (http://www.mcafee.com). The forty three percent is the people factor in information
security systems. People are the problem and the solution. In the discussion I will state how people
are the weakest link in information security system through social engineering. First, I will define
social engineering. People have been victims of social engineer throughout time. The first case
of social engineering could be argued was the Trojan Horse in ancient times in the Trojan War
circa 800 B.C.E. according to Homer s Iliad (www.ancient.eu) or Kublai Khan s invasion of
China in 1275 A.D to today s wire fraud emails. This paper will focus on social engineering and
remedies for social engineering. Legend has it that the Mongol warrior leader, Kublia Khan,
enticed the gatekeeper for access through the Great Wall into China. That simple act of bribery
gave Khan s forces the ability to invade China. The gatekeeper, a person, was the weakest link in
China s security back in 1275 A.D. The same holds true in 2016. Today, people are the weakest link
in an organization s security plan. That security plan is inclusive of information security as well. An
information security program needs to include: policy, education and training, awareness, and
technology to ward off

Literary Devices InThe Sound Of Thunder, By Ray Bradbury
Watch Out! As they fight for their survival. In the short story, The Sound of Thunder, by Ray
Bradbury, is about a man going into a time machine to hunt a T Rex. He was traveling along with
his other companions through the time machine to meet the T Rex. They ended up encountering
many obstacles as they re on their journey. Although people don t pay attention to what they re
doing even if it s the smallest things, it can lead up to a consequence as shown in literary devices
such as; simile, metaphor, and repetition.
At first, Bradbury uses simile as a way to illustrate a comparison of unlike things reflecting to the
character s actions. Simile is an expression comparing one thing to another using the words, like,
or as. In the short story, Eckels and the company travelled back 60 millions years ago. Travis
warned everyone to not step off the path, and began to talk consistently about the consequences if
you would step off the path. As Travis was talking about the consequences, it was brought up that
if you step on a mouse, and you leave your print, like a Grand Canyon, across Eternity (Bradbury,
22). This shows us that Travis said this, but meant that if you make any changes in the past, even
the smallest ones, it can result into something disastrous in the future. It compares the effects of
stepping on a mouse to that at the Grand Canyon, which shows the resemblance. This is one of the
many similes used, but another comparing literary device is used as well in the

Stereotypes Of A Manly Person
I grew up as a pretty reserved person in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. I knew what happened outside
of my home, but I was not exposed to it on the daily, or even yearly, basis. Growing up, I saw
fights on TV, in movies, and heard about them from my friends. I never really irritate people,
except close friends, so no one cares to fight me. Also, I would probably lose. My friends always
tell me how annoying I am. Luke is annoying, a friend said. In my seventeen years of life, I have
only had a few physical fights, and they have all been between a few individuals. One fine
evening at a friends house we were hanging out and everything was well. It was about 1:00 a.m.
and a certain individual who attends Central (we will call him Arthur) had fallen asleep. The rest
of us were in one room playing a video game while Arthur was laying on the floor of a different
room. Another friend of mine (we will call him Joe) thought it would be funny to... Show more

Through television and media, we see a scale from weak to manly man. Although everyone is
told to be okay with who they are, I can guarantee a majority would choose to be a manly man.
That is who the girls are impressed by, and that is who most would like to be. However, those are
all physical characteristics, which is only a percentage of being a man. A large portion of a man
should be defined by his mentality and his actions. My best opinion of a man can only be
defined by another Spongebob reference. In the Spongebob movie, Spongebob and Patrick take
on a deathly journey for two reasons: to save Bikini Bottom, and to prove that they are men.
These two animated characters perfectly describe the mentality of a man who is not afraid to
stand up for what he believes in. By standing up for what they believe in, I mean risking their
lives. I do not mean standing outside a political rally holding a sign fighting for safe

Enslavement Of African American Civil War
When most people hear the term Civil War , most people think of the enslavement of African
Americans. This makes sense because that played a extremely big role in the American Civil War.
The word slavery originated from Europe. In the middle ages the Slavonic population that were in
Eastern Europe were very often captured to be enslaved. Starting at around the year 1526 12.5
million African American slaves were forcefully brought to America on ships. The ships had such
horrible conditions that only about 10.7 million survived the journey. Ever since the first settlers
came to America the work was harsh. With the growing amount of plantations in the South and the
need for goods in the North, the only way to keep up with the demand was

Cleopatra And The Ptolemaic Dynasty
Cleopatra was an influential part of ancient civilizations because she changed the history of the
Ptolemaic dynasty, she reigned beside Julius Caesar, and restored power in Egypt with Mark Antony.
The Ptolemaic Dynasty bred some of the most memorable people in ancient history. Including the
Egyptian Queen who is above all else remembered the most for her extravagant beauty and way of
ruling, even though it is not certainly known what she looked like given that there was never an
actual accurate depiction of what she looked like. Cleopatra VII, the daughter of the Egyptian King
Ptolemy Auletes was Egypt s last ruling Queen ( Cleopatra: The woman... ). To further understand

Egypt was economically at its lowest when Mark Antony invited Cleopatra to Tarsus in 41 B.C.
Keeping this in mind imagine how crazy it would have been for Cleopatra to flaunt money
around on her one trip to see Mark Antony. Crazy right? Right. Yet Cleopatra having a plan
already laid out portrayed herself as the Greek goddess Aphrodite to impress Mark Antony
enough to want her. Although many people felt she was being too promiscuous towards a man
who was already married; Cleopatra knew she would have to think with his mindset in order to
attract his upmost attention. Mark Antony impressed by her beauty and her riches decided to
make her his former mistress and spent the winter of 41 B.C. with her in Alexandria. Not being
intentional Cleopatra fell in love with Mark Antony and gave him control over Cyprus. After
Mark Antony left for four years Cleopatra bore him twins, girl and boy. During the four years
Mark Antony had been a widower and newly remarried to Octavian s sister Octavia ( Cleopatra: The

Radical Metaphysical Ramifications Debunking The...
Multiverse Theory Ramifications
Have you ever heard of the quote for every problem there s an infinite number of solutions ? Of
course that makes sense because life s every day events can go in infinite amounts of directions. It
all depends on your surrounding environment to be completely honest. There is no way to truly
predict what happens if you yourself do something.
One of the major ramifications debunking the multiverse theory is that it is a radical metaphysical
conjecture. It is said this universe has only the right amount of everything to support life. You have
probably heard if there are an infinite number of monkeys typing on infinite number of typewriters,
they will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare . This refers to

  • 2. Judging People Research Paper We live in a society that is solely focused on appearance and how we look to others. Look at the people around you and what is the first thing you notice? You might see their hair color, skin tone, and their clothing. Though while you are doing that you could be making silent observations. Why do we do that? People say away from the people who look dangerous and people will like the people who are attractive. Though when it comes to judging appearance it s something that is a part of our lives. Is it good? Is it bad? When humans judge one another it comes from an evolutionary adaptation, however in modern times with a structured society it is not acceptable to do so. In Pam Belluck s New York Times article, Yes, looks do matter, address... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our mind should avoid the impulse of determining the causes of events until a wide range of evidence is gathered and assessed from many different sources and traditions. (Torres, Raymond. Why Judging by Appearance Can Be Harmful. The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, n.d. Web. 14 Jan. 2017.) We are quick to make judgements on people s lives completely based on how we see them at that particular moment. One can make the assumption that you are lazy if you come into work late or not properly dressed. Though they don t know the true story, you could be having an off day or something is currently happening in your life. Humans are so focused on being right on our observations that when we told something other than what we think we refuse to believe it. Raymond Torrs states that, It s hard to understand the nature of other people or the natural world, if all we really care to know is any and everything that comes out of our own mind. This attitude constrains our ability to find out more about any issue. We assume that just because we call something for what it is or what we think it is, that there isn t a composite of underlying and interactive factors responsible for our observations. (Torres, Raymond. Why Judging by Appearance Can Be Harmful. The Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, n.d. Web. 14 Jan. 2017.) We shouldn t make simple judgements on people by external appearance because it is superficial and often unfair. After all, you don t know what circumstances the person might be facing or who the person really is. Perhaps the person comes from a less fortunate family than you and cannot afford the kind of stylish clothes your friends wear. However, that does not mean the person is less intelligent or interesting than you are. People have the lack of discernment which leads to large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Consequences Of The English And Norman Conquests... The people who inhabited Great Britain between 450 and 1066, were referred to as Anglo Saxons and they included people from German tribes that had migrated from Europe, their descendants, and individuals from British groups that associated with the Anglo Saxon culture and language. This period provided a flourishing of literature and language, the establishment of laws, creation of the English Nation, and re establishment of Christianity. Culture began changing for the Anglo Saxon people that lived through the conquest of Cnut in 1016 and that of William of Normandyin 1066. Following the conquests, the nobility of Anglo Saxon people were either exiled or became peasants. The English nobles had very specific obligations to William in return for their fiefs such as; castle building, military service, and the training of additional knights. The Norman Conquest became far more revolutionary than its Danish predecessor. (P. 336). Enormous consequences flowed because the English and Normanswere quite two different people. (p. 336). It was a fatal day for England during the Battle of Hastings and had caused an exchange in old masters for new. The English were abandoned to greed and lust, lax in their religion, and addicted to hot mulled cider. They lived in small houses and preferred to don their skin with gold, eat until they were sick, and drink until they spewed. The Normans tended to dress well, were particular about their food, and much more religious. They built ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The boys grow up hating each other and wishing each other misfortune, and even death upon each other. as boys they had thirsted for one another s blood, as men each prayed that misfortune might fall on the other (152). • 6. Positive And Negative Factors Of Mood Causes In Adolescent... Adolescents are known for being moody, impulsive and emotional. They make decisions based on how they re feeling without thinking about any consequences. Friends are crucial at this point in life, but the having the right friends is even more important. Peer pressure is a part of everyday life, however it can be either good or bad. Selection of affiliation is when people select the people they want to be around and form friendships with. Affiliation is when people gravitate toward others with like values and interests and provide support for context for views and behavior. Past research has shown that mood components can spread among adolescent peer networks. These components include both positive and negative characteristics. Yet, it seems highly more probable that negative mood can spread throughout the network and affect the adolescent friends (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). Preceding research used the same in home interview surveys as in this study, with adolescents as their participants. A list of recorded school friends was present and the mood of the participating individual was scored based on the Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale. The scale was from 0 54, the higher the number the worse the mood that was indicated. Previous studies have found a link between mood disorders in adolescents and social support; other experiments show that emotional state of an individual can be affected by exposure to different levels of mood (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). Over the years, researchers have found that other illnesses are spread from person to person via social contagion. Behavior based illnesses such as obesity and smoking cessation have been proven to have been spread among peers. Friendships form because of common interests, dislikes and things in common. Friendships are an open path for spread of attitude toward certain things. Both healthy and unhealthy mood spreads and even components of depression, but depression itself does not spread. The authors had not found any evidence of consideration of depression symptoms in previous experiments (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). • 10. The Need to Reform or Abolish The Electoral College Essay The Electoral College is the United States archaic process of electing presidents. It was established in the Constitution as a compromise between election by Congress and election by popular vote. Each state is given a specific number of electors based on the number of its U.S. Representatives and Senators (NARA). This allows for over representation of small states and under representation of large states, while the winner takes all format followed by most states could result in a candidate winning the popular vote but losing the election(NARA). This has actually happened on four separate occasions, leaving four black marks on the nation s history (NARA). Despite these mishaps and constant calls for reform, the faulty system remains in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this has never changed the outcome of an election, the possibility is still there, and that alone should be cause enough for one to advocate reform (Fairvote.org). Twenty four states, including Indiana, do not legally require electors to vote for a specific candidate (NARA). In these states, electors can essentially vote for whoever they want, and face no charges. Electors in the remaining twenty six states and Washington, D.C. are bound by state law or pledges to vote for a specific candidate (NARA). However, the penalties in these states are usually trivial, and rarely enforced (Fairvote.org). One or several rogue electors could easily disregard the popular opinion of the state, such as in Virginia during the 1836 election. Virginia s popular vote saw Martin Van Buren and running mate Richard Mentor Johnson on top of the polls. However, Johnson wasn t particularly popular in southern states, as he had previously been in a relationship with a mulatto slave. As a result, the twenty three Virginia electors instead cast their vice presidential votes for William Smith, leaving Johnson with the most electoral votes but one shy of a majority. The vote then went to the Senate, where Johnson was finally elected as Vice President. The election came dangerously close to being soiled by the bigoted Virginia electors, but thankfully all was set right by the Senate under the provisions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli Summary Niccolo Machiavelli s abstract work of The Prince discusses politics and government and focuses in not only acquiring power, but also how to maintain it. Throughout his work, one of the most prevalent yet disputed themes is between the acquirement of states between principalities and republics. The Princeshows a predominant and constant debate on which group will excel in acquiring power. However, despite Machiavelli s harsh criticisms on principalities, his work does not solely praise or focus on the excellence of republics. In fact, as Machiavelli continues to speak and provide examples about the successes and failures of both republics and principalities, it becomes clearer that the lone purpose of The Princeis to merely provide tactics in political governance, instruction on how to maintain power once it is acquired, and most importantly, advice on how to become a great leader. One of the most prevalent themes found in Machiavelli s The Prince is the theme of fortune. Machiavelli, though in disguise, focuses on the theme of fortune in chapter four and explains how it plays a heavy role in acquiring power. Chapter four begins in introducing states ruled by a prince with barons and states ruled by a prince with appointed ministers, and continues by distinguishing the similarities and differences between the two groups. For states ruled by a prince with hereditary barons, Machiavelli claims that power is easier to acquire as the prince receives help in conquering the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The novel describes a state with little privacy and your mind and actions are all monitored. Orwell, showcases many struggles in life, to mention some are, power, warfare, rebellion and repression. Network layer is the third layer of the OSI model. It performs switching and routing by creating logical paths, known as virtual circuits, for transferring data from one node to another node. Routing and forwarding are the major functions of this layer. It also performs other operations such as addressing, internetworking, error handling, congestion, control and packet sequencing. The Internet Protocol (IP) is the network layer protocol which is the best known example of network layer and every machine consists of its own IP address. It manages the connectionless transfer of data one hop at a time, from end system to ingress router, to router to router, and from egress router to destination end system. It is not responsible for reliable delivery to a next hop, but only for the detection of eroded packets so they may be removed. Connection model: The OSI Network Layer protocol can be either connection oriented, or connectionless. In general, the TCP/IP Internet Layer supports only the connectionless Internet Protocol (IP). Message forwarding: This is the most important function of network layer. Since many networks are partitioned into sub networks and connect to other networks for wide area communications, networks use specialized hosts, called gateways or routers to forward packets between networks. Datagram Encapsulation: Network layer performs encapsulation of messages received from higher layers by placing them into datagrams which are also referred to as packets with a network layer header. Fragmentation and Reassembly: The major function of the network layer is transmitting messages down to the data link layer. Some data link layer technologies consist of certain limitations on the length of any message that can be sent. If the packet that the network layer wants to send is too large, the network ... • 24. Solving The Foreclosure Crisis That Devastated The Nation... Many Americans have and still have been haunted by their pasts. Most of us have learned not to judge others by backgrounds or past choices, but when it comes to financial credit, our pasts are not so easily overlooked. With the slow but sure recovery of the foreclosure crisis that devastated the nation years ago, hangs a hand of hope that offers a second chance to boomerang buyers who merely just want to get back into home ownership. The rent to own option is the best choice for these buyers who want a second shot to do it all over. In its simplest terms, renting to own means that a piece of property such as a home is leased in exchange for payment. This payment is owed either monthly or weekly depending on the owner who places the house up for lease. Although, with this option the buyer has the chance to purchase the house through time. When people buy a home they have to pay extra amounts that are not covered by the actual price of the home. These extra expenses include down payments and closing costs. With the rent to own option buyers will only pay a security rental deposit and also have the choice of paying an option deposit as well. Another benefit that comes along with this option is the flexibility it provides for the buyers. The owners whom are leasing the house to these buyers will not discredit them because of their bad past credits. They will simply continue their agreement with the buyer if they see that payments are being made when they are supposed to. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Genesis 2 however we come to learn that their names are Adam (male) and Eve (female). Also in Genesis 2 we learn exactly how Eve is created; Goad takes a rib from Adam and makes Eve from that rib. • 39. Analysis Of The Genocidal Killer In The Mirror In the article, The Genocidal Killer in the Mirror, Crispin Sartwell focuses more on power and is concerned with evil. Sartwell states that whether you believe you are among the evil people or not, you are deeply malicious or a moral hero or just profoundly self deluded. He continues to point out the timeline of all genocidal events that took place over 500 years, however, he doesn t list all of the genocidal events during the current timeline. Theodore Dalrymple, the writer of Just Do What the Pilot Tells You , argues that some people think a determined opposition to authority is principled and romantic . However, Dalrymple maintains that in his experience as a doctor, people who do not obey authority most of the time have unsuccessful relationships and a tumultuous life. He also emphasizes this by asking a lady on an airplane if she believed in authority, she states that she disagrees and that authority is restraining. He then challenges her by asking if it would be all right if he went to the pilot and asked if he could fly the plane. The lady refuses and states that he does not have the training to fly an aircraft. At this point, Dalrymple predicaments that we gave the pilot authority to fly the aircraft through his training. In The Genocidal Killer in the Mirror, Sartwell states that no problem is as profound and no evil as prevalent as state power, but that furthermore, we all have the decisions to be deeply evil and that no one should consider oneself too intelligent, humane, or pure. State power isn t evil because we need laws and regulations to maintain civilization. Sometimes, authority feels as if they are above the laws because of the status in society. Sartwell then asks, Are you a moral hero? He then points at Difference in authority. This would be the state, the experts under normal situations. He also points out, Do you believe what the authorities tell you just because they are authorities? Although it is possible to see the authorities side before the person decides to follow their orders, however, this could lead to chaos. In contrast, Just Do What the Pilot Tells You primarily focuses on the danger contained in blind obedience. Dalrymple looks at Milgram s experiment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Charles W. Chesnutt Thesis Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free... a cry to the world to send the people most in need of liberty, the wretched, and the homeless to America. This quote comes from the 1883 sonnet, New Colossus, by Emma Lazarus and is engraved on a plaque affixed to America s most famous symbol and landmark, the Statue of Liberty. While American Literature predates Lazarus by a few centuries, her sonnet along with Thomas Jefferson s contribution in 1776 in the Declaration of Independence help define what makes certain literature American. Clearly expressing the beliefs of the colonist, Thomas Jefferson, an immigrant, penned to the world the purpose of what America stood for, the preservation of individual God given... From the youngest to the oldest, poorest to the wealthiest, or single orphan to the largest family to arrive on American shores, they are all changed somewhat, for better or worse, by the American experience. Admittedly, some may think this is too broad of a definition, or American Literature is undefinable. I will argue that as long as the idea of what America promises remains alive, all literature ever inspired by this dream will always be truly and exclusively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Women s Movement Essay The Women s Movement The women s rights movement was a huge turning point for women because they had succeeded in the altering of their status as a group and changing their lives of countless men and women. Gender, Ideology, and Historical Change: Explaining the Women s Movement was a great chapter because it explained and analyzed the change and causes of the women s movement. Elaine Tyler May s essay, Cold War Ideology and the Rise of Feminismand Women s Liberation and Sixties Radicalism by Alice Echols both gave important but different opinions and ideas about the women s movement. Also, the primary sources reflect a number of economic, cultural, political, and demographic influences on the women s movement. This chapter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her essay she relates the rise of feminist consciousness in the 1960s to numerous changes in American society, especially the rise of other protest movements. Echols said, On September 7, 1968, the sixties came to that most apple pie of American institutions, the Miss America Pageant (Echols, 308). The reason she said this was because one hundred women s liberation activists descended upon Atlantic City to protest the pageant s promotion of physical attractiveness as the primary measure of women s worth. From there, the protestors set up a Freedom Trash Can and filled it with high heeled shoes, bras, girdles, hair curlers, false eyelashes, typing books, and representative copies of Cosmopolitan, Playboy, and Ladies Home Journal. They wanted to burn the contents but couldn t because of the laws for bonfires on the boardwalk. Also, word had been leaked to the press that there would be a symbolic bra burning. However, there were no bras burnt that day. But the image of the bra burning, militant feminists remains part of our popular mythology about the women s liberation movement. The Miss America demonstration represents an important moment in the history of the sixties as well as the women s movement (Echols, 309 310). Although the women s liberation movement only began to take shape toward the end of the decade, it was a quintessentially sixties movement. The women s liberation movement alone carried on and extended into the 1970s that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Neuroticism And Extraversion Essay Personality traits may contribute significantly in influencing SWB. The most repeated finding in this field is the relationship between Extraversion and positive affect on the impact of SWB (Eid, Riemann, Angleitner Borkenau, 2003). This connection can work in two ways. To begin with, people have a tendency to be happier in social circumstances (Pavot, Diener Fujita, 1990), and they should be happier in light of the fact that extraverts invest more energy socially (Watson, Clark, McIntyre Hamaker, 1992). Second, Extraversion by and large has a positive effect on friends, family, and other relationships, while Neuroticism is regularly a negative indicator (Anderson, John, Keltner Kring, 2001; Belsky, Jaffee, Caspi, Moffit Silva, 2003;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Literature reviews since the times of Wilson (1967) point to such elements as optimism, sociability and extraversion as the essential sources, or at least correlates with SWB. Happiness and its elements are connected differentially and anotomously to the personality traits of Extraversion and Neuroticism has been broadly recorded since Costa and McCrae (1980) exhibited that positive affect associates with Extraversion and that negative affect corresponds contrarily with Neuroticism. Notion that Extraversion is the overwhelming predictor of happiness would seem, by all accounts, to be plainly obvious in light of the fact that Extraversion is connected with friendships and social interactions, which are major source of happiness and personal fulfilment in both private and public life (Campbell, Converse Rodgers, 1976). Moreover, modern culture implements a high level of social activity and interaction, both due to a constantly expanding population and on account o an expanding interreliance on others to meet the regular needs of living (Pavot, Diener Fujita, ... • 43. Social Science And Remedies For Social Engineering Introduction Forty three percent of in house members of organization were accountable for data loss. Twenty two percent was intentional data loss. Twenty one percent was accidental according to Intel Security (http://www.mcafee.com). The forty three percent is the people factor in information security systems. People are the problem and the solution. In the discussion I will state how people are the weakest link in information security system through social engineering. First, I will define social engineering. People have been victims of social engineer throughout time. The first case of social engineering could be argued was the Trojan Horse in ancient times in the Trojan War circa 800 B.C.E. according to Homer s Iliad (www.ancient.eu) or Kublai Khan s invasion of China in 1275 A.D to today s wire fraud emails. This paper will focus on social engineering and remedies for social engineering. Legend has it that the Mongol warrior leader, Kublia Khan, enticed the gatekeeper for access through the Great Wall into China. That simple act of bribery gave Khan s forces the ability to invade China. The gatekeeper, a person, was the weakest link in China s security back in 1275 A.D. The same holds true in 2016. Today, people are the weakest link in an organization s security plan. That security plan is inclusive of information security as well. An information security program needs to include: policy, education and training, awareness, and technology to ward off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Literary Devices InThe Sound Of Thunder, By Ray Bradbury Watch Out! As they fight for their survival. In the short story, The Sound of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, is about a man going into a time machine to hunt a T Rex. He was traveling along with his other companions through the time machine to meet the T Rex. They ended up encountering many obstacles as they re on their journey. Although people don t pay attention to what they re doing even if it s the smallest things, it can lead up to a consequence as shown in literary devices such as; simile, metaphor, and repetition. At first, Bradbury uses simile as a way to illustrate a comparison of unlike things reflecting to the character s actions. Simile is an expression comparing one thing to another using the words, like, or as. In the short story, Eckels and the company travelled back 60 millions years ago. Travis warned everyone to not step off the path, and began to talk consistently about the consequences if you would step off the path. As Travis was talking about the consequences, it was brought up that if you step on a mouse, and you leave your print, like a Grand Canyon, across Eternity (Bradbury, 22). This shows us that Travis said this, but meant that if you make any changes in the past, even the smallest ones, it can result into something disastrous in the future. It compares the effects of stepping on a mouse to that at the Grand Canyon, which shows the resemblance. This is one of the many similes used, but another comparing literary device is used as well in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Stereotypes Of A Manly Person I grew up as a pretty reserved person in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. I knew what happened outside of my home, but I was not exposed to it on the daily, or even yearly, basis. Growing up, I saw fights on TV, in movies, and heard about them from my friends. I never really irritate people, except close friends, so no one cares to fight me. Also, I would probably lose. My friends always tell me how annoying I am. Luke is annoying, a friend said. In my seventeen years of life, I have only had a few physical fights, and they have all been between a few individuals. One fine evening at a friends house we were hanging out and everything was well. It was about 1:00 a.m. and a certain individual who attends Central (we will call him Arthur) had fallen asleep. The rest of us were in one room playing a video game while Arthur was laying on the floor of a different room. Another friend of mine (we will call him Joe) thought it would be funny to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through television and media, we see a scale from weak to manly man. Although everyone is told to be okay with who they are, I can guarantee a majority would choose to be a manly man. That is who the girls are impressed by, and that is who most would like to be. However, those are all physical characteristics, which is only a percentage of being a man. A large portion of a man should be defined by his mentality and his actions. My best opinion of a man can only be defined by another Spongebob reference. In the Spongebob movie, Spongebob and Patrick take on a deathly journey for two reasons: to save Bikini Bottom, and to prove that they are men. These two animated characters perfectly describe the mentality of a man who is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. By standing up for what they believe in, I mean risking their lives. I do not mean standing outside a political rally holding a sign fighting for safe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This makes sense because that played a extremely big role in the American Civil War. The word slavery originated from Europe. In the middle ages the Slavonic population that were in Eastern Europe were very often captured to be enslaved. Starting at around the year 1526 12.5 million African American slaves were forcefully brought to America on ships. The ships had such horrible conditions that only about 10.7 million survived the journey. Ever since the first settlers came to America the work was harsh. Of course that makes sense because life s every day events can go in infinite amounts of directions. It all depends on your surrounding environment to be completely honest. There is no way to truly predict what happens if you yourself do something. One of the major ramifications debunking the multiverse theory is that it is a radical metaphysical conjecture. It is said this universe has only the right amount of everything to support life.
