Research Paper On Man On Wire
One slight miscalculated step and Philippe Petit would find himself pancaked on the floor of the
sidewalk. He risked his well being every day as he persistently sought for new adventures and
structures to walk on. The thrill of each and every experience inspired him to live his life as a wire
walker. However, no one knew why he would put his life in danger like that. After his performance
between the Twin Towers, people asked him Why? but he answered with, There is no why. The
documentary, Man on Wire, gives us an insight of what his life was like leading up to the remarkable
date, but does not give us the answer as to why a man with a normal conscience would do such a
thing. Although, there are many theories as to why someone would do such a heedless stunt, the one I
conjecture most related to Petit s experience is a theory introduced by Russell Poldrack. The
phenomenal research conducted by Poldrack further elaborates and delivers a more explicit
explanation of the motive that thrives Petit towards this treacherous lifestyle.
An intriguing man who lacks the fear of death is an impeccable way to describe the French wire
walker Philippe Petit. According to Petit, to encounter death while doing something you are most
passionate about is priceless. The sole meaning of living revolved around wire walking when it came
to him. Absolutely nothing else mattered. Man On Wire, the film directed by James Marsh in 2008,
documented a series of events that outlined his existence

I Am Insane-Personal Narrative
I trembled with an overwhelming feeling of terror regarding the impossibility of the previous day s
events. I could not no matter how hard I tried wrap my head around them. Had they been ghosts? Had
the died that day three years ago, and now have been haunting the house, going about their past lives?
Or maybe I didn t really see them, Maybe they weren t really there. Maybe I m insane. Though, of
course I suppose that would also have to qualify Vera and Mrs. Sappleton for insanity as well. After
all, they saw them, too. I started thinking of any scientifically sound Explanation for what had
happened to cloak the supernatural one that had arisen first in my mind. However, I was snapped out
of my thoughts by the eminently distressing sound of the ringing telephone. I dubiously answered ...

Nuttel, I didn t think you d come back after yesterday. It s scary, really. They return on the anniversary
of their disappearance every year.
Yes, that s actually why i came back. You see, I wasn t always this nervous. It all began after my wife
disappeared about six years ago. We looked for her everywhere, but she was never found. It took me
years to accept the fact that she is gone. Though, sometimes I can still hear her voice. It sings, she
loved singing. It sings the same song over and over again and i can never remember the name of it.
Once or twice in the past i have even seen her. She dances around the house. It is truly terrifying, but I
know that it was always all in my head. You see, the events of yesterday reminded me of her, I began
telling my own tale.
Vera s face transformed into one full of guilt, Oh. I m so sorry about your wife, Mr. Nuttel. I lied about
those things yesterday, I didn t know about your wife. I must have caused you so much pain,
remembering your tragedy. I hope you can forgive me, I was only trying to have a little fun.
It s quite alright, but maybe now you will think twice before telling another tall

Fingerprints In Forensics
Finger prints today are used in a number of different ways including the prevention of forgery, identify
an accident victim, verify job applicants, provide personalized access to everything from ATMs to
computer networks and even phone security. But what fingerprints are useful for in forensics is that no
two people have been found to have the same fingerprints as there is a one in 64 billion chance that
your fingerprint will match up precisely with someone else s. Fingerprints are even more unique than
the genetic material in each of our cells or, DNA as although identical twins can share parts of the
same DNA they still won t have similar finger prints. This allows police and detectives to identify
each person individually from a simple process

The reason I would choose this school is because it is four hours from Fargo. I wouldn t be too far
from home and the tuition to get in is $49,900. The Mayo Clinic School in Rochester is the top 11th
medical school in the country. The faculty student ratio is 16 1 which is very impressive. The
applicants must be a resident of the United States, or Canada, but foreign nationals are not eligible for
admission. Also, you need to have one year of biology, one year of inorganic chemistry, one year of
inorganic chemistry, one year of physics, and one course in biochemistry. Another school that would
be appropriate would be the University of North Dakota in Grand forks, which is only 1 hour and 17
minutes. Plus, the cost is way cheaper than the May Clinic School which is $4,068.50 for UND. UND

Miss Awful
In Miss Awful by Arthur Cavanaugh, Virginia Clark describes her son, Roger, as a lively, outgoing
youngster (160), but some events determine Roger as caring and a boy who perserveres on top of his
fun side. Early in the story, Roger is telling his family all about his unproductive day at school and can
t help but tell them that one day his class got up from laying on the floor and got up and did the
Mexican hat dance (161). This is how Roger is proved lively and energetic because he only tells his
family about the fun parts of school, and doesn t tell them about, say, a spelling test or maybe a math
worksheet they had to do. At this time, Roger s mother remembers how Roger had done a good deed

How Cognitive Surplus Will Change The World
Power of collaboration:A Summary of Clay Shirky s TED Talk How Cognitive Surplus will Change
the World In Clay Shirky s Jun 2010 TED Talk How Cognitive Surplus will Change the World , he
discusses about his idea of cognitive surplus as the ability of the world s population to contribute and
collaborate on large projects . First, Shirky claims, the Kenyan government s media blackout after the
2008 elections, transformed web blogs from a commentary of media into a essential part of it. The
enormous amount of information made it impossible for any single person to effectively manage it (
Ory Okolloh s, a lawyer managing an web blog, qtd in Shirky). Ushahidi came into existence as a
public response to the problem of information gathering and became a platform for crisis management
via public participation, according to Shirky. Cognitive surplus ,like Ushahidi, are ... Show more

A study done at an Israeli day care centers showed that social constraints are stronger than contractual
constraints , Shirky argues. Social constraints refer to the societal norms set which allow day to day
activities whereas contractual constraints are enforced by some form of incentive or punishment. The
result of the study showed that once a social constraint is broken then it is not re established easily.
The main difference between the LOL cats and Ushahidi is that LOL cats rely on communal values
whereas Ushahidi relies on civic values , Shirky notes. Communal values refer to activities done by
the participants for the participants, according Shirky, whereas civic value refer to activities done for
the greater good. As Free cultures get what they celebrate (Kamen qtd. in Shirky), so we require
greater designing around civic values. The amount of content created will only increase but it is up to

Active Listening Can Be Described In Brief As Listening
Active listening can be described in brief as listening to a person carefully and with an open mind,
which endeavors to fetch a grasp of the other on a greatly profound level. Guidelines for active
listening is to give people your attention, be ready to paraphrase, use questions if you don t
understand, acknowledge the others person feelings, encourage if the other person appears uncertain,
do not react or respond in other ways until it is clear that the other person has finished. (The role of
Active listening in conflict resolution, 2012). [1] For example, you are the accounting manager of a
company and you have two accountants Sarah and John. John was employed since two months and
Sarah has been with the company for ten years. John is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clarification includes questions that seek to clear uncertainties and fetch more understanding of the
other person s intentions and fears. Misunderstood or inadequate information is the main barrier to
understanding; that s why clarification is important. After that, you should recognize the other person s
feelings. This is called digging. It concentrates on the feelings of a person without making them the
clear focus of the argument. Observing emotional reactions adds a further aspect to the understanding
of a person s situation. It is mainly helpful when there seems to be an inconsistency between the
content of a message and the person s feelings as it permits us to discover the speaker s actual
approach toward a subject. Subsequently, you should see if the other person seems to be doubtful or
uncertain. You should acknowledge the feelings that a person is experiencing as it is an influential
evidence of our awareness and serious attempt to understand his situation. (The role of Active
listening in conflict resolution, 2012). [3] Once more, it s essential that, once these workers are
required to resolve their arguments, you should attempt to understand their feelings and make them
feel noticed. If the accounting division is small and you cannot reschedule employees or workers
straightforwardly, you may think of modifying their work structure, so they should not work together
as much as possible. This is not perfect in most cases, but it s a tiny compromise to

Harrison Bergeron Analysis
Harrison Bergeron Short Story Essay
It takes courage to stand up for one s beliefs, and not everyone is bold enough to take the chance.
Freedom, taking risks, and just living in the moment is displayed in the short story of Harrison
Bergeron , when Harrison tries to break free from under the government s laws in the future. In
society, everyone is different, and has their own hopes and dreams in their lives that are aimed to be
pursued like in Harrison Bergeron. The theme Total equality isn t an ideal worth striving for, but a
mistaken goal that is dangerous in both execution and outcome is the statement the other is trying to
communicate. Kurt Vonnegut, in Harrison Bergeron, helps develop the theme through satire and
characterization.
Citizens are all equal and no one is above anyone else. The setting is takes place in the future, the year
of 2081. To begin with, Kurt Vonnegut uses satire to introduce the theme. In Harrison Bergeron, the
author states All equality [is] due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and
to the unceasing vigilance of agent of the United States Handicapper General (Vonnegut). Readers can
tell the quote is sarcastic because the U.S doesn t have as near as that many amendments yet. In other
words, sarcasm read in the tone helps indicate the satire in the beginning of the story. Therefore, the
satire in the quote, shows how the author develops the theme into the story. With this in mind,
characterization is also a way the

Marketing Plan For West Coast Transit
When conducting a marketing plan that will create a solution for West Coast Transit it is important to
create a highly motivated and dynamic team of employees to come together to accomplish a task
swiftly and flawlessly with short notice. The current situation is for the team of selected individuals to
create a plan of action to help boost revenue through the release of the new Bowing 747 and the
existing West Coast Transit company mission which is to stay customer focused and provide an
opportunity for companies to fly their employees at an affordable rate as well as accommodate whole
families to travel affordably. I have selected a group to work together on a West Coast Transit project
that I believe will be in the best interest for the teams and company. While everyone who works with
us today has their own profound talents and characteristics, I have selected a group of six which I
believe bring the most to the table in a situation like this because the selected group is willing to put
more work in for the good of the organization and will do more than is required. My first choice
would be Natalie. Natalie is positive and ambitious and can function well in a group atmosphere,
Natalie is motivated by challenges and enjoys competitive opportunities where her skills and talents
can take center stage. She is great for smoothing over tense situations. She is a real negotiator and is
comfortable in any kind of speaking situation which in this stressed circumstance is required.

known for his generous and noble act, sacrificing his time and fortune to benefits the Africans. Of
course, Edmund Dene Morel learned the truth behind King Leopold II s practices of slave labors and

slavery murder, and mutilation of millions in the Congo hidden from the rest of the world for roughly

The Queensland Police Service ( Gre ) Incident Command...
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Incident Command System (ICS) was raised as a project in
2001 with the aim of establishing a Command system which could be used for any type of incident or
event. Extensive research was conducted into ICS models throughout Australia and overseas. The QPS
ICS was finally adapted from the North American ICS model which allows a flexible approach to
incident response with effectiveness and efficiency. The QPS ICS was then adopted into Section 1.12
of the QPS Operational Procedures Manual (OPM 2014). The QPS ICS takes a formal approach by
gathering intelligence, planning a response and deploying the available resources to achieve a specific
result (QPS2013a).
The QPS ICS model is based on five interlocking functional roles. These roles are Command,
Operations, Planning, Intelligence and Administration and Logistics. Depending on the size and nature
of the incident the five roles can be carried out by a single officer or an incident management team
with a Police Forward Commander (PFC) who will have overall supervision. (QPS2013a). The
Command role will be undertaken by the first officer attending the incident who will assume the role
of Police Forward Commander (PFC) (OPM 1.12.3) who will remain in this role until the incident is
resolved or command responsibility is transferred, usually to a more senior officer (QPS2013a). The
PFC will obtain and maintain situational awareness, identify and take responsibility for establishing a

Argumentative Essay On The Doomsday Clock
The Doomsday clock is a man made clock created by a scientist by the name of Martyl Langsdarf who
worked in the Bulletin of Atomic scientists. The clock was made initially created by concerned
scientists on the nuclear bomb and its implications on society. There were several different ideas
proposed to measure how close mankind was to its destruction, but the clock was chosen as the most
suitable one. [11]
The idea which prevailed was that nuclear weapons would bring about the destruction of human race
sooner or later and the clock was a measure of how close mankind was to its destruction. The clock
indicated that the closer the time is to midnight. the nearer mankind is to its destruction. The minute
hand moves forward and backward depending on the social and political circumstances [12]. The
clock is not a matter of physical nature but human perception of Doomsday. The Doomsday Clock

The neo nationalistic approach has led to tensions and intolerance rise amongst countries. Political
point scoring amongst some democratic leaders of nuclear capable countries consists of threats of
nuclear warfare with the hostile countries. In all the events, diplomacy has taken a back seat and
threats of nuclear attack is replied with a similar threat instead of back door diplomacy on issues [18].
The dependency of the clock in recent times is not connected to global changes but rather statements
and gestures of individual leaders. Countless efforts have been taken by the Bulletin of Atomic
Scientists to help reduce the global threats for example efforts of proposing to opt for the Iran Nuclear
deal in order to reduce pollution or the efforts to stop North Korea in testing the nuclear missiles.

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Perkins Gilman
Perkins Gilman aptly used narrative voice to shape the meaning of The Yellow Wallpaper, by writing a
first person narrative about a woman who slowly loses herself to madness. This voice is one of a
woman who may possibly have post partum depression or some other form of manic depression, and
her unheard cries for help. She slowly draws within herself, and allows the insanity to take over.
Within the first few paragraphs we learn general characteristics about the narrator: she is middle class,
as indicated by the phrase mere ordinary people (354); we also learn that she is married, suggested a
statement about John laughing at her, something she says is only expected in marriage. Though we are
never given her name, these generic aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early on, she openly admits that she may be ill, which quickly lends some reason to doubt when it
comes to some of the things she talks about. Are there really women hiding behind the wallpaper?
Surely not. Is there a woman lurking in the bushes outside? Unlikely. Are the patterns and shapes on
the wallpaper interesting and thought provoking? Probably so. That is all she thought of the wallpaper
when first confined to the room yellowish in color, with strange shapes woven into the texture.
However, as her condition worsens, the way she looks at the wallpaper grows more and more
distorted. The textures and strokes take shape and form; they turn into living beings, women who are
confined between the layers of wallpaper. The narrator begins to feel sympathetic for them, feeling
trapped and confined as well. The narrative slowly shifts from first to second person, with the
inclusion of a you. Instead of simply describing her feelings, she then begins to say this is how such a
thing would make you feel.
The narrator s descriptions of the room itself change with each entry. At first, it is merely irritating.
She describes the color as repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded
by the slow turning light (356). Any reliable, sane person would be irritated by an ugly yellow on their
walls. By the second entry, she admits she has a growing fondness for the room, aside from the
wallpaper. She starts to pick out

Common Core Standards Literature Review
Literature Review What is the common core? The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) defines the
knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that students need for success in
college and careers upon high school graduation (Santos, Darling Hammond, Cheuk (2012)). The
common core was created, to provide clear academic benchmarks with more concise academic
standards for essential learning that will prepare students to be college and career ready (Liebtag, E.
(2013)). The common core standards have then, been introduced and applied to most schools in the
U.S, and although it may have its controversies, the major issue, is its effect on ELL (English

According to Duguay, A., Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September), As
educators have examined the standards more deeply, concerns have arisen about their implementation
in classrooms with diverse groups of students, including English learners . Not only this, but the
concept of math also has its visible adversities. According to Robertson, K. (2009), Although it is easy
to assume that many English language learners (ELLs) will excel in math because math is a universal
language and students may have had prior educational experience that included mathematical
instruction, that assumption can lead educators astray . Many teachers are struggling with the,
increasingly rigorous grade level content instruction; by content area teachers, many of whom are
newly incorporating language development techniques in their subject area classes (Duguay, A.,
Massoud, L., Tabaku, L., Himmel, J., Sugarman, J. (2013, September)). The common core may be the
stepping for detailed curriculum, but it is seeming that, it cannot be tailored to all of the diverse
populations of our nation (Liebtag, E. (2013)). The expectations of the common core exacerbate the
academics for ELL students. According to, HAKUTA, K., SANTOS, M., FANG, Z. (2013), when ELs

The Pros And Cons Of Print Journalism
As previously mentioned, graphic journalism is not the only medium which uses both text and image
in order to communicate and convey information print journalism also incorporates visual language
into the work, because according to the research people are more likely to read a story accompanied
by a photograph (Wolf Grotta 1985, in Nyberg 2006: 100), but actually does it in a completely
different way. While the news photograph is ancillary to the text (Nyberg 2006: 100) and plays a
supportive accompanying role, in comics journalism illustrations and text are integrated and
equivalent, working together to compose a narrative and create a coherent whole, but remaining
distinct from each other. Moreover, a photograph usually stands alone seeming to capture the whole
story in a single moment (Williams 2005: 55), and though has the capacity to draw attention and cause
a viewer s reaction, it cannot by itself provide an interpretation or create a narrative coherence,
requiring captions and descriptions to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with morally serious content (Meskin 2001: 7), pictures perform visualization for the events, people

precise and holistic than linear text. As comics journalism is the conjunction of visual and verbal, it is
important to examine and analyze the very relationship between these two elements and how they
influence each other while working together, considering both positive and discrediting

Fluoride Water Crisis
Having lived a good portion of my life in the US, I am very aware of the ongoing and vast array of
conversations about water. There are issues with drought, flooding, contamination, water rights and
even stealing, but the conversation that many people neglect to have is the one about fluoridation.
While I find myself disturbed by the fact that most people turn a blind eye to this use of fluorides in
our public water systems, I am equally disturbed that municipalities do it at all.
Too often we blindly trust that our government has our best interest at the base of their decisions. Not

Film Analysis Of Citizen Kane And The Hudsucker Proxy
Citizen Kane (1941) received praise from many critics as one of the best films of all time while The
Hudsucker Proxy (1994) received many mixed reviews. Director Orson Welles s film, Citizen Kane
uses many innovative camera movements and transitions, however, directors Ethan Coen and Joel

Citizen Kane follows a reporter, Jerry Thompson (William Alland), who investigates the significance
of a wealthy newspaper publisher s, Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles), dying words: rosebud.
Thompson sets out to question people who have known Kane well. Thompson learns that Kane grew

The Goal Through Acts Of Domestic Terrorism
Maureen, who immigrated from Montreal, Quebec in 1995 moved to the United States for personal,
political, and economic reasons. She was in pursuit of a better life for herself and her family and
wanted to escape the growing linguistic and cultural intolerance of Quebec society.
The late 1960 s and early 1970 s in Canada was a time of political upheaval, especially in Quebec,
with the rise of the separatist/ liberation movement. The Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ) gained
popularity by expressing the outwardly harmless goal of Quebec independence from Canada and the
creation of a French workers society. But the FLQ attempted to achieve this goal through acts of
domestic terrorism, such as planting bombs in Canadian federal institutions like mailboxes, and
creating mass hysteria, especially in English communities. By doing this, the FLQ managed to even
further separate the French and English in Quebec. In October 1970, the FLQ kidnapped the British
trade commissioner, James Cross, and the vice premier of Quebec, Pierre Laporte. In response, Prime
Minister Pierre Trudeau sent soldiers and tanks into the streets of Montreal . The Prime Minister had
declared martial law in the province of Quebec, the only time that Canada has ever done this.

Impressionism By Mary Cassatt
Impressionism
Impressionism by definition is: a style or movement in painting originating in France
in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the
moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. But I think that
impressionism gives off more of a feeling, and I think that it sets a mood. I think that
impressionist paintings all have a flow to them and they are very elegant and classy.
The impressionist era started in the 1860s, and ended in the 1880s. It developed in
Paris, and spread throughout Europe. At the time, paintings of still life s and landscapes
were not valued. So impressionist paintings brought about a very new change in the art
world. But in the early 1860s, more and more artists began to discover their interests in
impressionist paintings. These artists brought us the incredible pieces of impressionist
art we have today.
One of the artist s I would like to address is Mary Cassatt. She was born on May, 22,
1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, United States. She was born into an upper
middle class family, that was well educated, and had a profound influence on her. Mary
traveled all over Europe as she grew up. She learned German and French and also had
her first art lessons while she was traveling abroad. It is most likely that her first
exposure to art was at the Paris World s Fair in 1855. Her family objected to her
becoming a professional

TANF Family Policy
According to the 2014 U.S. Census Bureau report, more than 46 million Americans remain below the
poverty line, despite the fact that U.S. taxpayers spend about $1 trillion a year for anti poverty
programs, including TANF, which provides assistance to families with little or no income. In 1996,
Welfare Reform was passed by President Bill Clinton, this legislation was known as the Personal
Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) of 1996 which replaced
President Franklin D. Roosevelt welfare program that was initiated in 1935. The Aid to Families with
Dependent Children (AFDC) program provided benefits to poor families with children, before it

It was developed by Adam Smith he formulated the basis of what was later to become the science of
human capital and it was used to study if investing in human capital would lead to greater economic
outputs (what makes one worker more productive than another). This theory indicates that all human
behavior is based on the economics of self interest, of individuals operating within freely competitive
markets. When applied to the study, this theory holds that the independent variable, work based
training influences or explains the dependent variable gaining employment. The belief is that people,
who want high wage employment, will spend more time educating themselves, in their desired field of
employment. This equates to a more qualified candidate; forcing the employer to provide higher pay
(Fitzsimons, 1999). This theory plays a role in supporting the word self sufficient.
The definition of self sufficient for this research is being able to provide ones needs without
government assistance. The Human Capital Theory adds to this definition by stating that it is the belief
that people want more so they do the things necessary for them to become self sufficient. They either
attend a trade school or they attend college so that they can increase their marketable skills thereby
putting them on the road to becoming self sufficient. The goal of being self sufficient applies to every

Euthanasia Is Criminal and Inmoral
Euthanasia is criminal and does not agree with the morals of people today. Ed Feinstein, senior rabbi
of Valley Beth Shalom in Encino, California states that, It [prayer] recognizes God as the one who
decides Who will live and who will die (Wood 3 added brackets). Assisted suicide is a peculiar
process and not the intended way to die. The constitution of India comments in Article 21 on the right
to life:
Right to life is a natural right embodied in Article 21 but suicide is an unnatural termination or
extinction of life and, therefore, incompatible and inconsistent with the concept of right to life . It is
the duty of the State to protect life and the physician s duty to provide care and not to harm patients. If
euthanasia is legalised, then there is a grave apprehension that the State may refuse to invest in health
(working towards Right to life). Legalised euthanasia has led to a severe decline in the quality of care
for terminally ill patients in Holland.
If euthanasia is legalized it will change the values of doctors and push them to pressure other terminal
patients into euthanasia. Euthanasia goes against the Hippocratic Oath doctors take at the beginning of
their career and places them in an unsafe environment. Lynn Pasquerella, president of Mount Holyoke
College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, who has a PhD in philosophy states, . . . health care
providers are likely to experience ever increasing moral distress over how to abide by the Hippocratic
Oath s

Terracotta Skyphos
The first work I studied is the Terracotta Skyphos. It is a cup from early imperial time. It belongs to
the Roman culture. It was made at Tarsus in Cilia. It is from Cyprus. The cup is made out of
Terracotta, which is a clay like substance. It is fired clay that can that is durable and strong. It can be
molded into any shape. In Italian terracotta means baked earth. Making a terracotta sculpture is quick,
simple, and cheap. This cup was lead glazed; the shape of the cup represents the Hellenistic period. It
s a fancy work, decorated with plants and flowers. The plants look like it is popping out. It resembles
the repousse technique. The cup has a rough texture and the way the light hits it almost looks dark in

Art encourages me to look at the world differently. The statue makes me think of how people were
portrayed in the imperial period. The story behind the copy of the original statue of Barberini
Suppliant is compelling. It is of a young woman who has been taken advantage of. It is a bold work of
art. The original is more detailed and draws more attention then the one I analyzed but both works
show and portray different stories. I believe that they made minor changes to the copy but leaving out
the body of the woman made it mysterious and hard to analyze. Greek art had a major influence on
Roman art and I see elements within these two works. These two works of art emphasized the
importance of details. Without details there is a lack of meaning. Without looking at the original work
I would not know how to analyze the copy. It looks like a completely different work of art. These two
works of art have less in common than I thought. They come from the same time period but they are

Daniel Libeskind
The success of architects is defined not so much by the problems they face as the act of their creative
and practical responses. Located in once the bombarded Berlin, a new language of architecture
emerged. It appears with multiple contradictions, yet not confliction, from itself to the surroundings
and within its own construction. That is the Berlin Jewish Museum, submitted by the young Daniel
Libeskind in a competition to provoke the unsavory history of Berlin very soon after the fall of the
Berlin Wall in 1989. The Western tradition in building museum is twisted by its expressionistic form,

concrete are customized in tube like structures which slope variably to resist lateral loads stabilizing
the vertical elements. At some strategic locations with severely angled walls, pre stressed steel
reinforced concrete is an absolute option. Steel is used to bear compressive loads as well as tensile
loads. The vertical elements are tied together with beams and slabs which prevent them from cracking.
The monolithic appearance and the complication in opening positions and dimensions require a high
level of difficulty in pouring concrete, which make this museum become the first model project of its
kind to test the new concrete handling method. The challenge is to avoid segregation in pouring
concrete. Timing is the key. The exterior walls are molded with in situ concrete; the advantage it offers
is that the apertures can be made in any shape and size, width and height. It also allows a less amount
of columns used, and an expansion for larger, uninterrupted spaces. The extra strength the reinforced
concrete gives grants Libeskind the ability to make the concept practical.
Also, to maintain the integrity of the object, he eliminated conventional roof system, lightweight

Fullerton Superstores such as Wal Mart, Target, and Home Depot have always been frowned upon by
local businesses because of the competition it brings. Lower prices forces nearby stores to lower their
prices until they shut down because of the negative profits from lowering their prices or because they
don t acquire enough revenue to stay in the market. However ironically this feeling isn t shared

Which all in all provides a better atmosphere of customer service towards consumers. This convinces
consumers to prefer to shop at Costco, knowing that they will come out satisfied at the end of the day.
(USA TODAY) Another key difference between Wal Mart and Costco is the fact that Costco requires
memberships from consumers. A contract which consumers pay in order to purchase any product at
Costco. Membership prices range from $55 110 annually which in return for the discount prices is
well worth. Costco memberships also provide reward programs for the more premium package such as
3% cash back for gasoline purchases. (ann arbor) This provides an incentive for consumers to do their
bulk spending ,like groceries, at Costco; knowing that a small fraction will be returned in the short run
which eventually adds up in the long run. This not only applies for those who plan on doing their
groceries but also for heavy purchases; TVs, Mattresses, Computers..etc. However this does not
appeal the consumers who wish to buy small quantity of units like picking up a gallon of milk. To pay
$55 110 a year for a gallon of milk doesn t make sense, especially since Costco only sells packages of
two gallons. Now you would have to spend more and are responsible for not letting the milk go to

The Leadership Of The Enron Corporation
Thank you, Devin, for explaining the role leadership plays in organizations and specifically at Enron.
Leadership of the Enron corporation was a group of high payed executives. Their mission statement
claimed they treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves....We do not tolerate abusive or
disrespectful treatment. Ruthlessness, callousness and arrogance don t belong here. (Revolutionary
Worker 2002) However, as in other aspects of Enron s culture, the appearance did not match reality.
(Stephens and Behr 2002)
Enron could become an energy broker in lieu of company delivering energy with the deregulation of
electrical power in 1988. Deregulation allowed Enron to be creative for the first time, a company that
had been required to operate within the lines could innovate and test limits. (Sims and Brinkmann
2003) Enron went from a company with humble beginnings that has faced difficult years to an
organization where a handful of highly paid executives were able to pocket millions... (Sims and
Brinkmann 2003) With deregulation and the use of mark to market accounting Enron was able to
legally make millions while being unethical.
Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling were the team known as The Smartest Guys in the Room. This
powerhouse team of two people coordinated their work to meet a shared common objective. That
objective was to make money. This objected created a culture that was one of intense pressure to keep
Enron stocks on an ever rising curve. (Stephens

Role Of The Foster Parent On The Continuum Of Carer And...
Role of the Foster Parent
One of the most significant studies found in the literature was a qualitative study conducted by
Schofiell, Beek, Ward, and Biggart on the role of the foster parent (2013). The purpose of the study
was to understand the boundaries of the role of the foster parent on the continuum of carer and parent
(Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013). The study was a portion of a larger study on permanency in
foster care (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013).
Schofiell, Beek, Ward and Biggart recapped on the concept of being a professional, someone who has
specific skills and training, which leads to identifying foster parents as professionals (2013). They
further state foster parents should be viewed as professional working with other professionals to meet
the needs of the foster child (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart, 2013).Their study attempted to
understand how individuals view or define their role as foster parents (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart,
2013).
The research design used Role theory as the theoretical framework (Schofield, Beek, Ward, Biggart,
2013). Role theory is a theoretical approach to understand on individuals fit into social positions
within a group (Wehner, Thies, 2014). Role theory is closely related to the theoretical approach of

Vladimir Putin Chapter 1 Summary
Summary: Chapters 3 4 Vladimir Putin s move from St. Petersburg to Moscow signaled the beginning
of the Putin era. Throughout his time in the KGB and as first deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, he was
rarely ever seen as a man of high honor and prestige. His positions included advancing the agendas of
those around him, but he rarely ever aimed to advance his own career. Despite this lack of ambition,
Putin s admirable personality traits and various political connections led to his accelerated rise to
power. Upon being officially inaugurated on May 7, 2000, Putin s boldness and authority acted as a
saving grace for Russia and its people. Throughout the 1990s, the state of Russia s economy, politics,
and society as a whole was in constant turmoil and disarray. President Yeltsin campaigned on the basis
of drastic economic change that would transform Russia from a bleak totalitarian past to a bright and
promising democratic future. In order to fight the stagflation caused by the Soviet s command
economy, Yeltsin enacted measures of shock therapy to slowly reconstruct the failing economy. These
measures included removing government price controls on numerous products, lifting wage controls
on various jobs, cutting military spending to spare the budget deficit, and handing out vouchers to
citizens in an effort to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His intentions were true, but his execution resulted in extreme poverty, inflation soaring 20 30 percent
per month, incredibly high unemployment, plummeting GDP, and an overall tumultuous period of
suffering for Russia and its people. Putin remained out of the political scene for much of this chaotic
time; that is until he got summoned to Moscow in 1996 and involved himself in Kremlin politics.
Yeltsin, immediately impressed with his professional mannerism, vast knowledge of facts, and
unbreakable loyalty, appointed Putin to deal with Russia s most pressing issue at the

Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis
Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable
for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the
viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is
particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to
light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense
paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large
scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed
and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially
Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain
highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the
interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time
to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own
associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you
think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like
female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some
who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a
reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in
a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the
eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female
genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This
second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty
on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium,

Persuasive Essay On Electronic Voting
If you re over the age of eighteen maybe you have thought about voting at least once. Everyone should
be able to vote, but with computers emerging as the main source of technology of modern society, a
city in the United States is considering using electronic voting machines(EVMs) for the next election.
These machines would be used in place of traditional paper ballots. And citizens are divded on
whether their city should use EVMs or continue to vote through traditional paper ballots. Here are the
different perspectives on an issue of importance. In favor of using electronic voting ballots, some
citizens in the U.S.A feel electronic voting machines help more people vote more easily. In 2003 97%
of voters of different ages, races, and physical ability said they had no trouble using the machines. A
2006 poll in Utah returned almost the same result. Even voters of different languages can smoothly
adapt from using the electronic voting machines over the paper ballots. Since the costs of printing is
high the many different languages are limited for the paper ballots, so without EVMs voters who do
not read english well have to ask the poll workers for help making privacy impossible. Citizens also
agree with using EVMs over paper ballots because they are safe. They aren t connected to the internet,
where hacking often occurs, so they can t be tampered with. Voters with security questions do not
need to worry. They capture votes electronically and store them in

Trials And Tribulations In Marilyn Monroe s Life
Marilyn Monroe wasn t your typical teenager or adult. She was faced with many different trials and
tribulations during her life. Even though she had complications with her parents growing up , she still
succeeded in life , becoming a famous movie actress and what people say America s Sex Symbol
Marilyn Monroe born as Norma Jeane Mortenson, daughter of Gladys Baker, was born on June 1 ,
1926 in Los Angeles , California. Growing up was kind of hard for her , she never knew her father and
she was in and out of foster homes because of her mother s psychiatric problems, which resulted in her
being put in a mental institution. Marilyn spent most of her life in foster care and orphanages , she
stayed with a family friend for about 5 years but was soon put back into foster care at the age of 7.

keep their affair a secret. She was buried in the most expensive casket there was called the Cadillac

she and Joe DiMaggio had gotten a divorce years before her death , he sent roses to her grave every

Positive And Negative Consequences Of Repealing The Jones Act
Cost Analysis:
I firmly believe, repealing the jones act would certainly make American economy prosperous. In this
section I will bolster my opinion by analyzing some positive and negative consequences of repealing
the act in terms of cost, economic impact, and national safety.
Positive Consequences of repealing Jones act:
Repealing the Jones Act could benefit the American economy, as it is cheaper to build ships outside
USA and hiring foreign crew
Building ships in America is certainly costly affair. It could cost five times more than the ship built
outside USA due high labor rates. Thus, repealing the jones act, means American companies can
lookout for cheaper options and buy vessels made in foreign countries at cheaper rates.
Wages for foreign crews are substantially lower than American crews. American crews cost nearly 4.5
times more than foreign crews. These wages make up nearly 75 percent of the operating cost
difference between the two. If foreign shippers were permitted to enter the U.S. market, American
companies would be forced to compete, and lower both their wages and prices to more reasonable
levels.
Cost of living would be significantly cheaper in states like Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico
Currently people from states like Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico have to spend a lot of money to get
goods due to higher freight transportation rates imposed by the Jones act. For example, it costs about
$750 to ship a 45 foot container from Los Angeles to Shanghai, but it costs $8,500 to ship the same
container from Los Angeles to Honolulu. This means that it costs 11 times more money to ship
something to some domestic locations than international ones. Thus, repealing jones act, the cost of
living in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico would decrease greatly as residents would not have to spend as
much money to get goods, from mainland America or from a foreign nation.
Economic boost for American Industries
Relaxing the Jones Act would lead to an economic boost for many industries across the nation, and
provide more goods at lower prices for American consumers. However, many Americans re simply
unaware of the impact that the extra shipping costs of the Jones Act has on their lives, and therefore
efforts to

  • 2. Research Paper On Man On Wire One slight miscalculated step and Philippe Petit would find himself pancaked on the floor of the sidewalk. He risked his well being every day as he persistently sought for new adventures and structures to walk on. The thrill of each and every experience inspired him to live his life as a wire walker. However, no one knew why he would put his life in danger like that. After his performance between the Twin Towers, people asked him Why? but he answered with, There is no why. The documentary, Man on Wire, gives us an insight of what his life was like leading up to the remarkable date, but does not give us the answer as to why a man with a normal conscience would do such a thing. Although, there are many theories as to why someone would do such a heedless stunt, the one I conjecture most related to Petit s experience is a theory introduced by Russell Poldrack. The phenomenal research conducted by Poldrack further elaborates and delivers a more explicit explanation of the motive that thrives Petit towards this treacherous lifestyle. An intriguing man who lacks the fear of death is an impeccable way to describe the French wire walker Philippe Petit. According to Petit, to encounter death while doing something you are most passionate about is priceless. The sole meaning of living revolved around wire walking when it came to him. Absolutely nothing else mattered. Man On Wire, the film directed by James Marsh in 2008, documented a series of events that outlined his existence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I Am Insane-Personal Narrative I trembled with an overwhelming feeling of terror regarding the impossibility of the previous day s events. I could not no matter how hard I tried wrap my head around them. Had they been ghosts? Had the died that day three years ago, and now have been haunting the house, going about their past lives? Or maybe I didn t really see them, Maybe they weren t really there. Maybe I m insane. Though, of course I suppose that would also have to qualify Vera and Mrs. Sappleton for insanity as well. After all, they saw them, too. I started thinking of any scientifically sound Explanation for what had happened to cloak the supernatural one that had arisen first in my mind. However, I was snapped out of my thoughts by the eminently distressing sound of the ringing telephone. I dubiously answered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nuttel, I didn t think you d come back after yesterday. It s scary, really. They return on the anniversary of their disappearance every year. Yes, that s actually why i came back. You see, I wasn t always this nervous. It all began after my wife disappeared about six years ago. We looked for her everywhere, but she was never found. It took me years to accept the fact that she is gone. Though, sometimes I can still hear her voice. It sings, she loved singing. It sings the same song over and over again and i can never remember the name of it. Once or twice in the past i have even seen her. She dances around the house. It is truly terrifying, but I know that it was always all in my head. You see, the events of yesterday reminded me of her, I began telling my own tale. Vera s face transformed into one full of guilt, Oh. I m so sorry about your wife, Mr. Nuttel. I lied about those things yesterday, I didn t know about your wife. I must have caused you so much pain, remembering your tragedy. I hope you can forgive me, I was only trying to have a little fun. Fingerprints In Forensics Finger prints today are used in a number of different ways including the prevention of forgery, identify an accident victim, verify job applicants, provide personalized access to everything from ATMs to computer networks and even phone security. But what fingerprints are useful for in forensics is that no two people have been found to have the same fingerprints as there is a one in 64 billion chance that your fingerprint will match up precisely with someone else s. Fingerprints are even more unique than the genetic material in each of our cells or, DNA as although identical twins can share parts of the same DNA they still won t have similar finger prints. • 6. Miss Awful In Miss Awful by Arthur Cavanaugh, Virginia Clark describes her son, Roger, as a lively, outgoing youngster (160), but some events determine Roger as caring and a boy who perserveres on top of his fun side. Early in the story, Roger is telling his family all about his unproductive day at school and can t help but tell them that one day his class got up from laying on the floor and got up and did the Mexican hat dance (161). This is how Roger is proved lively and energetic because he only tells his family about the fun parts of school, and doesn t tell them about, say, a spelling test or maybe a math worksheet they had to do. At this time, Roger s mother remembers how Roger had done a good deed just for a cat, he had carried down saucers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Cognitive Surplus Will Change The World Power of collaboration:A Summary of Clay Shirky s TED Talk How Cognitive Surplus will Change the World In Clay Shirky s Jun 2010 TED Talk How Cognitive Surplus will Change the World , he discusses about his idea of cognitive surplus as the ability of the world s population to contribute and collaborate on large projects . First, Shirky claims, the Kenyan government s media blackout after the 2008 elections, transformed web blogs from a commentary of media into a essential part of it. The enormous amount of information made it impossible for any single person to effectively manage it ( Ory Okolloh s, a lawyer managing an web blog, qtd in Shirky). Social constraints refer to the societal norms set which allow day to day activities whereas contractual constraints are enforced by some form of incentive or punishment. The result of the study showed that once a social constraint is broken then it is not re established easily. The main difference between the LOL cats and Ushahidi is that LOL cats rely on communal values whereas Ushahidi relies on civic values , Shirky notes. Communal values refer to activities done by the participants for the participants, according Shirky, whereas civic value refer to activities done for the greater good. Active Listening Can Be Described In Brief As Listening Active listening can be described in brief as listening to a person carefully and with an open mind, which endeavors to fetch a grasp of the other on a greatly profound level. Guidelines for active listening is to give people your attention, be ready to paraphrase, use questions if you don t understand, acknowledge the others person feelings, encourage if the other person appears uncertain, do not react or respond in other ways until it is clear that the other person has finished. Clarification includes questions that seek to clear uncertainties and fetch more understanding of the other person s intentions and fears. Misunderstood or inadequate information is the main barrier to understanding; that s why clarification is important. After that, you should recognize the other person s feelings. This is called digging. It concentrates on the feelings of a person without making them the clear focus of the argument. Observing emotional reactions adds a further aspect to the understanding of a person s situation. It is mainly helpful when there seems to be an inconsistency between the content of a message and the person s feelings as it permits us to discover the speaker s actual approach toward a subject. Subsequently, you should see if the other person seems to be doubtful or uncertain. You should acknowledge the feelings that a person is experiencing as it is an influential evidence of our awareness and serious attempt to understand his situation. (The role of Active listening in conflict resolution, 2012). • 9. Harrison Bergeron Analysis Harrison Bergeron Short Story Essay It takes courage to stand up for one s beliefs, and not everyone is bold enough to take the chance. Freedom, taking risks, and just living in the moment is displayed in the short story of Harrison Bergeron , when Harrison tries to break free from under the government s laws in the future. In society, everyone is different, and has their own hopes and dreams in their lives that are aimed to be pursued like in Harrison Bergeron. The theme Total equality isn t an ideal worth striving for, but a mistaken goal that is dangerous in both execution and outcome is the statement the other is trying to communicate. Kurt Vonnegut, in Harrison Bergeron, helps develop the theme through satire and characterization. Citizens are all equal and no one is above anyone else. The setting is takes place in the future, the year of 2081. To begin with, Kurt Vonnegut uses satire to introduce the theme. In Harrison Bergeron, the author states All equality [is] due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agent of the United States Handicapper General (Vonnegut). Readers can tell the quote is sarcastic because the U.S doesn t have as near as that many amendments yet. In other words, sarcasm read in the tone helps indicate the satire in the beginning of the story. Therefore, the satire in the quote, shows how the author develops the theme into the story. I have selected a group to work together on a West Coast Transit project that I believe will be in the best interest for the teams and company. While everyone who works with us today has their own profound talents and characteristics, I have selected a group of six which I believe bring the most to the table in a situation like this because the selected group is willing to put more work in for the good of the organization and will do more than is required. My first choice would be Natalie. Natalie is positive and ambitious and can function well in a group atmosphere, Natalie is motivated by challenges and enjoys competitive opportunities where her skills and talents can take center stage. He was first known for his generous and noble act, sacrificing his time and fortune to benefits the Africans. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Incident Command System (ICS) was raised as a project in 2001 with the aim of establishing a Command system which could be used for any type of incident or event. Extensive research was conducted into ICS models throughout Australia and overseas. The QPS ICS was finally adapted from the North American ICS model which allows a flexible approach to incident response with effectiveness and efficiency. The QPS ICS was then adopted into Section 1.12 of the QPS Operational Procedures Manual (OPM 2014). The QPS ICS takes a formal approach by gathering intelligence, planning a response and deploying the available resources to achieve a specific result (QPS2013a). The QPS ICS model is based on five interlocking functional roles. These roles are Command, Operations, Planning, Intelligence and Administration and Logistics. Depending on the size and nature of the incident the five roles can be carried out by a single officer or an incident management team with a Police Forward Commander (PFC) who will have overall supervision. (QPS2013a). The Command role will be undertaken by the first officer attending the incident who will assume the role of Police Forward Commander (PFC) (OPM 1.12.3) who will remain in this role until the incident is resolved or command responsibility is transferred, usually to a more senior officer (QPS2013a). The clock was made initially created by concerned scientists on the nuclear bomb and its implications on society. There were several different ideas proposed to measure how close mankind was to its destruction, but the clock was chosen as the most suitable one. [11] The idea which prevailed was that nuclear weapons would bring about the destruction of human race sooner or later and the clock was a measure of how close mankind was to its destruction. The clock indicated that the closer the time is to midnight. the nearer mankind is to its destruction. The Yellow Wallpaper, By Perkins Gilman Perkins Gilman aptly used narrative voice to shape the meaning of The Yellow Wallpaper, by writing a first person narrative about a woman who slowly loses herself to madness. This voice is one of a woman who may possibly have post partum depression or some other form of manic depression, and her unheard cries for help. She slowly draws within herself, and allows the insanity to take over. Within the first few paragraphs we learn general characteristics about the narrator: she is middle class, as indicated by the phrase mere ordinary people (354); we also learn that she is married, suggested a statement about John laughing at her, something she says is only expected in marriage. Surely not. Is there a woman lurking in the bushes outside? Unlikely. Are the patterns and shapes on the wallpaper interesting and thought provoking? Probably so. That is all she thought of the wallpaper when first confined to the room yellowish in color, with strange shapes woven into the texture. However, as her condition worsens, the way she looks at the wallpaper grows more and more distorted. The textures and strokes take shape and form; they turn into living beings, women who are confined between the layers of wallpaper. The narrator begins to feel sympathetic for them, feeling trapped and confined as well. The narrative slowly shifts from first to second person, with the inclusion of a you. Instead of simply describing her feelings, she then begins to say this is how such a thing would make you feel. The narrator s descriptions of the room itself change with each entry. At first, it is merely irritating. She describes the color as repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow turning light (356). Any reliable, sane person would be irritated by an ugly yellow on their walls. By the second entry, she admits she has a growing fondness for the room, aside from the wallpaper. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) defines the knowledge and skills in English language arts and mathematics that students need for success in college and careers upon high school graduation (Santos, Darling Hammond, Cheuk (2012)). Not only this, but the concept of math also has its visible adversities. According to Robertson, K. While the news photograph is ancillary to the text (Nyberg 2006: 100) and plays a supportive accompanying role, in comics journalism illustrations and text are integrated and equivalent, working together to compose a narrative and create a coherent whole, but remaining distinct from each other. The late 1960 s and early 1970 s in Canada was a time of political upheaval, especially in Quebec, with the rise of the separatist/ liberation movement. The Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ) gained popularity by expressing the outwardly harmless goal of Quebec independence from Canada and the creation of a French workers society. But the FLQ attempted to achieve this goal through acts of domestic terrorism, such as planting bombs in Canadian federal institutions like mailboxes, and creating mass hysteria, especially in English communities. By doing this, the FLQ managed to even further separate the French and English in Quebec. In October 1970, the FLQ kidnapped the British trade commissioner, James Cross, and the vice premier of Quebec, Pierre Laporte. Impressionism By Mary Cassatt Impressionism Impressionism by definition is: a style or movement in painting originating in France in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. But I think that impressionism gives off more of a feeling, and I think that it sets a mood. I think that impressionist paintings all have a flow to them and they are very elegant and classy. The impressionist era started in the 1860s, and ended in the 1880s. It developed in Paris, and spread throughout Europe. At the time, paintings of still life s and landscapes were not valued. So impressionist paintings brought about a very new change in the art world. But in the early 1860s, more and more artists began to discover their interests in impressionist paintings. These artists brought us the incredible pieces of impressionist art we have today. One of the artist s I would like to address is Mary Cassatt. She was born on May, 22, 1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, United States. She was born into an upper middle class family, that was well educated, and had a profound influence on her. Mary traveled all over Europe as she grew up. She learned German and French and also had her first art lessons while she was traveling abroad. Throughout his time in the KGB and as first deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, he was rarely ever seen as a man of high honor and prestige. His positions included advancing the agendas of those around him, but he rarely ever aimed to advance his own career. Despite this lack of ambition, Putin s admirable personality traits and various political connections led to his accelerated rise to power. Upon being officially inaugurated on May 7, 2000, Putin s boldness and authority acted as a saving grace for Russia and its people. Throughout the 1990s, the state of Russia s economy, politics, and society as a whole was in constant turmoil and disarray. President Yeltsin campaigned on the basis of drastic economic change that would transform Russia from a bleak totalitarian past to a bright and promising democratic future. In order to fight the stagflation caused by the Soviet s command economy, Yeltsin enacted measures of shock therapy to slowly reconstruct the failing economy. These measures included removing government price controls on numerous products, lifting wage controls on various jobs, cutting military spending to spare the budget deficit, and handing out vouchers to citizens in an effort to ... Yeltsin, immediately impressed with his professional mannerism, vast knowledge of facts, and unbreakable loyalty, appointed Putin to deal with Russia s most pressing issue at the ... • 34. Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium, ... • 35. Persuasive Essay On Electronic Voting If you re over the age of eighteen maybe you have thought about voting at least once. Everyone should be able to vote, but with computers emerging as the main source of technology of modern society, a city in the United States is considering using electronic voting machines(EVMs) for the next election. These machines would be used in place of traditional paper ballots. And citizens are divded on whether their city should use EVMs or continue to vote through traditional paper ballots. Here are the different perspectives on an issue of importance. In favor of using electronic voting ballots, some citizens in the U.S.A feel electronic voting machines help more people vote more easily. In 2003 97% of voters of different ages, races, and physical ability said they had no trouble using the machines. A 2006 poll in Utah returned almost the same result. Even voters of different languages can smoothly adapt from using the electronic voting machines over the paper ballots. Since the costs of printing is high the many different languages are limited for the paper ballots, so without EVMs voters who do not read english well have to ask the poll workers for help making privacy impossible. Citizens also agree with using EVMs over paper ballots because they are safe. They aren t connected to the internet, where hacking often occurs, so they can t be tampered with. Voters with security questions do not need to worry. They capture votes electronically and store them in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Positive And Negative Consequences Of Repealing The Jones Act Cost Analysis: I firmly believe, repealing the jones act would certainly make American economy prosperous. In this section I will bolster my opinion by analyzing some positive and negative consequences of repealing the act in terms of cost, economic impact, and national safety. Positive Consequences of repealing Jones act: Repealing the Jones Act could benefit the American economy, as it is cheaper to build ships outside USA and hiring foreign crew Building ships in America is certainly costly affair. It could cost five times more than the ship built outside USA due high labor rates. Thus, repealing the jones act, means American companies can lookout for cheaper options and buy vessels made in foreign countries at cheaper rates. Wages for foreign crews are substantially lower than American crews. American crews cost nearly 4.5 times more than foreign crews. These wages make up nearly 75 percent of the operating cost difference between the two. If foreign shippers were permitted to enter the U.S. market, American companies would be forced to compete, and lower both their wages and prices to more reasonable levels. Cost of living would be significantly cheaper in states like Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico Currently people from states like Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico have to spend a lot of money to get goods due to higher freight transportation rates imposed by the Jones act. For example, it costs about $750 to ship a 45 foot container from Los Angeles to Shanghai, but it costs $8,500 to ship the same container from Los Angeles to Honolulu. This means that it costs 11 times more money to ship something to some domestic locations than international ones. Thus, repealing jones act, the cost of living in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico would decrease greatly as residents would not have to spend as much money to get goods, from mainland America or from a foreign nation. Economic boost for American Industries Relaxing the Jones Act would lead to an economic boost for many industries across the nation, and provide more goods at lower prices for American consumers. However, many Americans re simply unaware of the impact that the extra shipping costs of the Jones Act has on their lives, and therefore efforts to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
