Sample Of Recommendation Letter To Ms. Raina Wright
I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ms. Raina Wright. Raina is my god daughter
and I have known her since her birth. Her father and I were classmates in Podiatry school, his widow
and I remain good friends to this day. It is because of the time I have spent watching her grow into the
young woman that she is, that I can vouch for her upstanding character. In the years that I have known
her, Raina has displayed many of the characteristics of an aspiring woman of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. She has exemplified scholarship by being on the Dean s List and the Honor Roll during
her matriculation at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She has also exemplified
community service by being involved in such activities

The Life of Nelle Harper Lee Essay
The Life of Nelle Harper Lee
On April 28, 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama, Nelle Harper Lee was born to Amasa Coleman Lee and
Frances Finch Lee. Along with her siblings, Alice, Louise, and Edwin, Harper was educated in
Monroeville Public Schools before going on to attend Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama.
After a year at Huntingdon, Lee decided to follow in the footsteps of her father and began studying
law at the University of Alabama in 1945 [2]. She left there to study abroad at Oxford University,
Wellington Court in England [4]. After returning to the United States, she continued her education at
the University of Alabama. However, in 1950, six months prior to completing her law degree, Lee
moved to New York hoping to begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following year, To Kill a Mockingbird was made into an award wining film staring Gregory Peck
as Atticus. The book was also chosen as a Reader s Digest Condensed Book, a Book of the Month
book, and a Literary Guild Selection. Outside of the United States, the book was just as successful. In
Great Britian, for example, it remained on the bestsellers list for many months and was selected as the
British Book Society Top Book of the Year. In addition to this, To Kill a Mockingbird has been
translated into several foreign languages [3].
Over the years, Harper Lee has received several awards for her writing abilities. In 1966, President
Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Lee to the National Council of Arts [1]. In 1990, she received an
honorary doctorate from the University of Alabama. Seven years later, Spring Hill College in Mobile,
Alabama, awarded Lee with an honorary doctorate of human letters for her lyrical elegance, her
portrayal of human strength, and wisdom [2].
Harper Lee s career as a writer has been limited since the publication of her critically acclaimed novel,
To Kill a Mockingbird. In 1961, she published two essays: Love In Other Words and Christmas to Me.
Four years later, When Children Discover America was published [3]. Another essay, Romance and
High Adventure, was presented by Harper Lee in 1983 at the Alabama History and Heritage Festival
in Eufala, Alabama [2].

Martian Compare And Contrast Book And Movie
Have you ever read a book and watched the movie of it after and had that moment when you realize
all the similarities and differences this is very true for almost every book and movie combo are like
this. One book and movie combo like this was the martian. One way the Martian is similar in the
movie and the book is the setting and the characters are all the same from the book to the movie which
to me makes a lot of sense because the important roles they play in the two are part of what makes the
story fit from beginning to end. In my opinion they set up the fact that he is a botanist and that to me is
what made the whole story come together. The fact that he had the skills to grow food to survive on
the planet .If it would have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that as a reader they could tell me how he felt compared to showing me how he felt. The actor in
the movie really showed me how he felt and in the book told me how he felt. The actor in the movie
really showed the emotion and determination to get home to his family again, this was shown so well
to me I felt like I was in the same situation, all the horrible things that happened to him happened to
me.The examples were the reason I felt the book and the movie were different. As you have read there
are many similarities and differences between books and movies especially in the Martian. You
learned about the similarities of the Martian including the characters and the settings you also learned
the differences from the book and the movie of the Martian which were the emotion and the detail of
the formulas these wee all the major examples of the Martian. In my opinion the Martian was an
overall great book and movie combo and I would recommend it to all readers that have free time to

Case Study Of Lennovo
Lenovo, being one of the world s top five smart phone makers has a zero market share in the US
markets which is one of the largest markets for smart phones. Motorola on the other hand, has been in
the US markets for 85 years while it has a poor distribution in other markets.
Lenovo s biggest business is PCs and it is the world s number 1 PC maker. But the sales of PCs isn t
growing which makes it imperative for Lenovo to focus on its mobile phone segment in order to be a
tech leader.
Having the experience in integrating and running US based tech companies; Lenovo seems fit to run
Motorola. Lenovo bought the ThinkPad business from IBM and guided it to success, and subsequently
it has a manufacturing plant in Whitsitt, N.C. making Think branded products.

In simple terms, Lenovo wants a cell phone business that is viable. Post the acquisition, it gets to be
the third largest mobile device manufacturer in the world. Also, through this acquisition, Lenovo gets
to compete with Samsung more effectively across a broader spectrum of growth markets.
Motorola, unlike Lenovo is a known name in US and other important markets of Western Europe and
Latin America and has a strong foothold in the US and Latin America having 52% of its revenues
from US and 20% of its revenues from the Latin American market, which Lenovo can get access to
with the deal, thus having a much easier way of entering these markets and giving it in roads.
Add to that, Lenovo also gets a company that has an impressive spend on R D as compared to that of
Lenovo. This would do a lot of good things to Lenovo if they are able to guide Motorola

Effectiveness Of Reading Comprehension Strategies
This paper focuses on two major concerns: the effectiveness of reading comprehension strategies and
the effectiveness of professional development. There has been a great amount of study and writing on
both topics. In addition to these subtopics, the topic of reading inventories will also be explored with
regards to the Scholastic Reading Inventory and the use of these tools in evaluating comprehension in
reading.
Reading comprehension strategies. Throughout the history of reading education, there has been
extensive research on phonological awareness and phonics. More recently, educational theorists have
also recognized and researched the need for instructing students in the use of comprehension strategies
in reading (Muspratt, Luke, Freebody, 1997). Block, Gambrell, and Pressley (2002) state The message
is clear the most important thing about reading is comprehension (p. 3)
Reading comprehension is the process of acquiring meaning from written text ( Block, Gambrell,
Pressley, 2002, p. 4) and is an interactive process involving the reader, the text, and the context (p. 5).
While there are many ideas on the most effective way to teach comprehension skills, most agree on a
few basic skills that students should know. Keene and Zimmerman (1997) identify 7 key
comprehension strategies: making connections, visualizing, questioning, inferring, synthesis, problem
solving, and deciding what is important. Making connections involves the use of the reader s schema,

Silk Mill Research Paper
Scientists found a problem when it came to mass producing spider silk, spiders are extremely
territorial and tend to kill any other spider that invades said territory. This had been tested by scientists
with the Golden Globe Weaver spiders and led to most of the spider farm being wiped out due to their
cannibalism. So instead scientists looked to finding out if a different organism could produce the
spider silk, like goats. First, the experts had to identify the gene that spiders had that produced the kind
of silk they were looking for. Eventually they found that there were six variations that spiders produce.
The one that the scientists decided on is called dragline silk, it makes up the framework of a spider s
web. They then experimented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to one of the scientists taking care of a herd of seven genetically modified goats, Randy
Lewis, these goats are pampered because of how unique they are. The only misgivings I have are for
how far scientists will go in modifying organisms in the future after conquering small changes in
biology such as this. I fear that they may experiment too much with the genetics of organisms and the
original nature may be obliterated with changes that might be added. As a consumer, I am ecstatic
about the repercussions this could have in terms of medically and safety for the average person and for
officers of the law and military. This can save lives and provide better options for those in need then

Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay
Sometime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a very
robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar period. He had
called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would tend to build up and
increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very famous for the statement
that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable today, gradually over time that
stability would build confidence in individuals to take increasingly risky positions in assets. The
model that he had built explains financial crisis in the economic system. He brings up that supply of
credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It seems almost
intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when economy is booming to
increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors become increasingly optimistic about their
return and they both become less sensitive to risk. But when the economy starts slowing down
investors sell out their holding to not to lose more of their assets making the economy even more
worse off. All of the New Deal structure that have been put in place in the economy during the great
depression, drove tremendous buildup of government debt in World War II and gave a very safe asset
for the private sector. This would be in a sense leverage, safe government debt

Reverend Parris Quotes In The Crucible
In Arthur Millers play, The Crucible, Reverend Parris is to blame for the witch trials in Salem. The
witch trials took place in Salem, Massachusetts from 1962 to 1963. During the trials, people were
accused and blamed for partaking in witchcraft and worshipping the devil. In some cases, neighbors
turned on neighbors and family members turned on themselves. Reverend Parris is to blame for the
witch trials that took place because of his egotistical attitude, his selfish ways, and lying to his peers.
Reverend Parris is the one to blame for the witch trials in Salem because of his egotistical attitude.
Parris states as he is talking to Proctor inside his house, It is not for you to say what is good for you to
hear (Miller 30). At this part of the book, Parris ego shows us that he is the one to blame. Parris
believes that he is right in thinking that he knows what is good for the community. In answering one
of Danforth s questions, Parris claims, I can only say, sir, that I never found any of them naked (105).

selfish when he asked for more money and firewood. If you act selfish then you can destroy

should try and avoid is being a liar. Parris lied about a number of things and it made no one trust what

The Baroque Era Essay examples
The Baroque Era
The Baroque era was a unique period in music that began during the 1600 s and ended around 1750.
The word baroque is define by Merriam s Collegiate Dictionary as, of, relating to, or having the
characteristics of a style of artistic expression prevalent esp. in the 17th century that is marked
generally by use of complex forms, bold ornamentation, and the juxtaposition of contrasting elements
often conveying a sense of drama, movement, and tension. The word baroque has been used to
indicate paintings, poems, architecture, literature, and all else that is dynamic and astonishing.

Thomas church in Leipzig. This was a demanding job in which Bach composed canatas for the St.
Thomas and St. Nicholas churches, conduct the choirs, oversee the musical activities of numerous
municipal churches, and teach Latin in the St. Thomas choir school. Bach remained at his post in
Leipzig until his death in 1750. Although he excelled his forbears and contemporaries, he did not
receive the respect he deserved until after his death. Bach is now regarded as one of the greatest
composers of all composers and is a source of inspiration for musicians.
While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldi was the son of a professional
violinist whose musical career cantered in Italy. Born on March 4, 1678, Vivaldi was a virtuoso
violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos.
Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent this, he
was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with the Ospedale
della Pieta, a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their mistresses. Vivaldi remained
working this post for much of his life. He did, however, take leave to compose many of his famous
operas such as Ottone in villa, his first opera.
Baroque music symbolized a changing in the times. From the early period, when Bach introduced his
rich polyphonic concertos and excelled as a virtuoso organist and composer. The evolution of music

Summary OfAmerican Sonnet To My Past And Future Assassin
Societal Reluctance and Reflection
American Sonnet to my Past and Future Assassin by Terrance Hayes is a modern American sonnet
whose focus is a black man struggling to comprehend his place in society. The speaker of the poem
illustrates his dilemma through comparisons to the respected black musicians of the twentieth century
to whom he feels a deep connection to. The tone of the sonnet is one of contemplation, or even
uncertainty, as the speaker outlines his thoughts in reluctance, questioning both himself and his
audience. Befitting of the overall tone, the sonnet commences with uncertainty, plainly illustrated with
the language of the speaker s initial statement: I m not sure how to hold my face when I dance (1), for
he arranges his words to portray a feeling of vacillation. Immediately following this reflective
proclamation, the speaker poses three questions, all of which allude to the contemplative tone apparent
in the text. While these inquiries regard the subject of dance, the speaker also intends for them to be
metaphors for the uncertainty he, as a black man, has for his place in society. His questions are rapid
fire, almost probing the audience for answers that are seemingly nonexistent. As a result of the
rapidity, there is an absence of breaks for these questions to be answered, evincing the speaker s belief
that they, in fact, have no answers. These first four sentences are crucial in the sonnet s development,
as they kindle ruminations for both the speaker and the audience. Promptly thereafter, the narrator
compares his own hesitant nature to the eminent musician Jimi Hendrix, and how, I hear Jimi Hendrix
/Was also unsure in dance despite being beautiful /And especially attuned (5 7). Similar to the
preceding lines, reluctance cloaks the prose like a veil. Note how the line begins with I hear... The
narrator uses this as a prelude to the claim to emanate a feeling of uncertainty. Moreover, in his
dubiety, the speaker appears to treat the comparison as almost frivolous and trivial; ergo, the
connection itself upholds the poem s hesitant tone. Regardless, this remark can also be interpreted as
an analogy for society. Hendrix, despite his unequivocal beauty, had difficulty discerning his

Mildred Pierce Patriarchy
The films Mildred Pierce (Michael Curtiz, 1945) and Thirteen (Catherine Hardwicke, 2003) portray
the Freudian myth that examines the view of feminine subservience apropos a patriarchy infused
society. Hence, the conflict at the crux of the Maternal Melodrama that relates to the classical conflict
(Chaos vs. Order) underlying most Hollywood genres is Autonomy vs. Control. In Mildred Pierce, the
female characters representing Autonomy are posited against male Control. This Maternal Melodrama
conflates with Film Noir so as it reflects the prevailing social context; women were breadwinners in
the 40s, however, in the postwar era, hegemonic masculinity reasserted itself by divesting women of
any power they had gained while the patriarchal order was suspended during WWII. Consequently,
classical Hollywood narratives portrayed the impending chaos as women resisted patriarchy; such
conflict was subtly present in the post feminist era. Accordingly, in Thirteen, Tracy ... Show more

Kay, who also resisted patriarchy as a tomboy, faces death and Veda is prosecuted. In the end, Mildred
walking with Bert into a bright dawn signifies her submission to and restoration of patriarchal order.
Contrarily, maternal abjection in Thirteen does not reduce the symbolic signification of the female.
Eventually, Melanie succeeds in subduing Tracy, who feebly resists her restraining if loving embrace.
This act of containment counters the symbolic castration and legitimizes women s potency. As Tracy
wakes up next to Melanie, the sun beaming down on them suggests that order has been established.
This is further emphasized with her spinning as if out of her chaotic life on a merry go round and
releasing the repressed pain in screaming. Hence, unlike in Mildred Pierce whereby, female Autonomy
leads to Chaos and male Control brings Order, the former defies the latter in

Stereotype A Thought By Beverly Daniel Tatum
Stereotype a Thought Today, many believe that stereotypes have been eradicated throughout our
modern world, this is far from the truth. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including
Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become
defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not
just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From
Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object
itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life .
Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus,
is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in school or at home.
Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate
some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are
not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in
schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated
from our world because from the day we are born we notice differences. One may argue that it is just a
distinction between people, which constitutes stereotyping. Just

Daily billings are 20%, 20%, 60% collection based monthly and the lease payment is made on the first
of the month (Gapenski and Pink, 2009). Variable medical costs at the clinic are assumed to consist
entirely of medical and administrative supplies. These supplies, which are estimated to cost 15 percent
of billings, are purchased two months before expected usage. On average, the clinic pays about half of
its suppliers in the month of purchase and the other half in the following month (Gapenski and Pink,
2009).
Clinical labor costs are the primary expense of the clinic. During the high season (December through
March), these costs run $150,000 a month, but some of the clinical staff work only seasonally, so
clinical labor costs drop to $120,000 a month in the remaining months (Gapenski and Pink, 2009). The
clinic pays fixed general and administrative expenses, including clerical labor, of approximately
$30,000 a month, while lease obligations amount to $12,000 per month. These expenditures are
expected to continue at the same level throughout the forecast period. The clinic s miscellaneous
expenses are estimated to be $10,000 monthly.
The clinic has a semi annual, five year, 10 percent, $500,000 term loan outstanding with First Bank.
Payments of $64,752 are due on March 15 and September 15. Also, the clinic is planning to replace an

Comparing Debt Financing and Equity Financing Essay
There are two basic ways of financing for a business: Debt financing and equity financing. Debt
financing is defined as borrowing money that is to be repaid over a period of time, usually with
interest (Financing Basics, 1). The lender does not gain any ownership in the business that is
borrowing. Equity financing is described as an exchange of money for a share of business ownership
(Financing Basics, 1). This form of financing allows the business to obtain funds without having to
repay a specific amount of money at any particular time. There are also a few different instruments
that could be defined as either debt or equity. One such instrument is stock options that an employee
can exercise after so many years with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now I will discuss the pros and cons of the alternative decision, which is a combination of the debt
and equity methods. A positive of this method is that the instrument is split between debt and equity.
The company could just split it up 50/50 between the two methods. Also if they had too much debt,
they could account for the instrument with 20% as debt and 80% as equity. This would make it look as
if they do not have too much debt or too much equity. This method would be an advantage, if the
company were looking to get more financing in the future.
A negative aspect of this method is how the instrument is split between debt and equity. An example
would be if the company split an instrument 50/50 between the two methods. This may seem fair
when first accounting for it, but what if the split did not represent the actual split of the instrument. Let
s say that it turns out that 90% of the instrument ends up being equity, and 10% ends up debt. The
books would be off by quite a bit, and creditors my not be happy with the company when they learn of
this.
Now that I have discussed pros and cons of each method, I will now explain the instrument that I will
be using as an example. I will be using stock options as the instrument. Stock options are offered by
many businesses to employees that stay with the company for a specified length of time. It is offered

Filipino Culture In The Philippines
The Filipino Culture

The Filipino Culture
Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States. In the past data has been hard to
obtain about Filipino Americans, primarily because of inconsistences in coding race and ethnicity in
research projects. Demographics of Filipino Americans did not start being properly recorded until the
early twentieth century, when the Filipino Islands became part of the United States territory. Even with
the limited data, they have gathered enough information on the Filipino culture. Filipino American
beliefs differ drastically from that of Americans, such as their culture, health rituals and religious
practices that may make healthcare more difficult (Dela Cruz, 2010).
Studies of the Filipino American health practices show that Filipinos who reside in a rural area are
more knowledgeable in home remedies, super natural ailments, traditional healing techniques, where
those from urban areas rely more on Western Medicine and over the counter drugs. In both settings,
indigenous folk and western medicine is used simultaneously. A popular self medication among these
groups is Chinese hot/cold application system (Pasma), and Chinese oils which sometimes perceived
as a remedy to all ailments such as headaches, dizziness, relaxing, or the common cold. If home
remedies do not work, many seek a local healer who uses treatments which includes roots and herbs.

Levi s Strauss And Co Essay
Levi s Strauss Co
Two years after his father s passing, Levi Strauss immigrated from Buttenheim, Bavaria to New York
with his sisters in 1848. His two older brothers owned a dry goods business called J. Strauss Brother
Co located in New York City. After becoming more familiar with the trade and how the business
worked, he traveled to California after word got out about the gold rush in 1853. Levi wanted to keep
up with the demand, so where there were people looking for their fortune through gold, he was there
making pants for them and the people who worked in tougher conditions.
Levi received a letter around 1872 from a loyal customer of his. Jacob Davis was a tailor from Reno,
Nevada loved his design of pants and continued to buy from Levi because of the pant s quality. He had
a proposition for Levi. In this letter it proposed on collaborating on a new design for pants were using
metal rivets on the sections that go through the most strain, would make the pants last much longer.
Jacob came to Levi because Levi was already established as a businessman and was familiar with the
trade. Also he needed someone that was familiar with the trade to put this idea into action. Levi agreed
to patent the idea. On May 20, 1873, the patent was given to Jacob Davis and the Levi Strauss
Company and the blue jean was born.
The iconic blue jeans were originally called XX. In 1886, Levi had a two horse logo branded onto a

How To Write A Personal Essay About My American Culture
As an American who has Russian parents and was born in Israel, I have always been engaged in
multiple cultures. My parents have put emphasis on preserving our Russian heritage while
encouraging me to immerse myself in American culture. As I stand at the threshold of entering
college, I am thrilled by the prospect of becoming acquainted with yet another cultural sphere. Being
fluent in both Russian and English has been transformative. Over the course of my life, I have read
Pushkin and Hughes, Dostoyevsky and Dickens, Pasternak and Hemingway. Through literature, I have
been able to gain insight into the defining themes of two fundamentally different cultures. I have

After leaving the Soviet Union and gaining freedom of religion, my parents became devout Russian
Orthodox Christians. Nearly every Sunday of my life has been spent in church. My parents have
encouraged me to become an active member of my parish: I used my knowledge of Russian to learn
the Slavonic alphabet in order to read epistles, psalms, and prayers during each service. Reading these
texts over and over again has woven the tenets of my faith into my being. The principle that has
resonated with me most is my golden rule that one should not judge others. This mandate to keep an
open mind is an integral part of my identity. I strive to accept people and their ideas at face value
without any animosity. The golden rule makes it possible for me to consider new perspectives without
compromising my own beliefs. When I meet someone who holds a viewpoint that differs from mine, I
consider these ideas based on their merit, rather than simply putting up a blustering defense of my
own views. Listening with an open mind enables me to find the inherent goodness in every person I

Anti Semitism On Swing Kids And School Ties
Anti Semitism in Swing Kids and School Ties
Anti Semitism has no historical, political, and certainly no philosophical origins. Anti Semitism is a
disease Daniel Barenboim. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary anti Semitism is defined as
hatred of Jewish people. Two films were released in the 1990 s that deal with different issues
involving anti Semitism. One titled Swing Kids was set in Nazi Germany and tells the story of a group
of teenage resisters who rebel by doing swing dance, but are forced to be involved with the Nazis
anyways. The other film is titled School Ties . This film is set in the United states, but also deals with
issues of anti Semitism. In the film, Swing Kids a group of teens named Peter, Thomas and Arvid
rebel against the Nazis by being swing kids, those that are involved swing music. Swing music was
not tolerated by the Nazis in those times therefore making it such rebellious act. One day Thomas
scrapes Arvid s record and as a way to repay him, Thomas decides to steal a radio from a lady who
owns a stolen Jewish radio. Peter and Thomas are both in the midst of stealing the radio when they are
caught by German police. Thomas escapes, but Peter is caught, taken away and forced to join the
Hitler Youth. Thomas joins the program alongside Peter but unlike Peter, he succumbs to the
propaganda and is brainwashed. After Thomas continues to make fun and insult Arvid, Arvid

Homeland Security And The Security
Differences The idea of securing the nation s borders and securing the safety of the citizens has been a
major topic since the beginning of the nation s existence. There have always been means and
procedures for it but it was never defined to the point it is today. The Homeland Security Department
is a fairly new program which is constantly improving and adjusting in accordance to the threats that
may arise. In the attempt to secure the United States, homeland security has become paramount and a
lot of emphasis is being provided so as to ensure the safety of the borders and the citizens of the
United States. So one must ponder what the difference between homeland security and homeland

Later, the federal, state, and local government responses to disasters such as Hurricane Katrina
expanded the concept of homeland security to include significant disasters, major public health
emergencies, and other events that threaten the United States, its economy, the rule of law, and
government operations (2). Homeland security is the combination of law enforcement, immigration,
disaster relief, and terrorist activities within the United States borders. This would be based on the
local agencies and civilian departments to safeguard the people from any threat within while being
assisted by the government. In some aspects of terror attacks, there will be a combination of both
homeland security and homeland defense. 9/11 is the perfect example as homeland security was
responding to the local disasters and threats while the homeland defense, military, was deploying to
get to the root of the threats. This is essential to the way homeland security operates because this will
stop the attack on the nation s soil before it reaches the borders and local government agencies are
required. The biggest issue with the homeland security aspect is that the

The Pharmacy Is Not Only A Source Of Medications But Of...
The pharmacy is not only a source of medications but of education and technology use.
The pharmacy plays a crucial role in the hospital because without it, physicians and nurses wouldn t
be able to treat their patients effectively.
The pharmacy is essential to the treatment of disease, since the pharmacy is the site where both
intravenous and pill medications such as chemotherapy and antibiotics are made and dispensed
according to what patient needs. At the hospital, the pharmacy takes care of both inpatients and
outpatients for both prescriptions and over the counter medications. Those who work at the pharmacy
also educated patients and healthcare workers about the side effects of medications, which
medications can be mixed and, especially for stronger medications, the known risks of taking them.
These educational measures are performed to prevent overdose, the inappropriate use of medications,
such as antibiotics, and to give the patients as to what is normal and to be expected from taking a
medication and what symptoms should raise a cause of concern. One way this duty is performed is by
rounds. A round is where the pharmacist along with other doctors such as a dietitian, social worker,
physical therapist, speech therapist, the attending nurse, and the primary physician, as well as any
other specialist whose expertise may be in need, get together to discuss a group of patients and what is
being done about their care and how it can be improved. Anyone

The Franciscan Order; a Victim of Its Own Success Essay
The Franciscan movement was a religious order that arose out of one man s ideologies and beliefs. St.
Francis of Assisi s ideals of absolute poverty, obedience, humility, and simplicity were uncomplicated
and basic, but during his life and even shortly after his death these ideologies were gradually shifting
and causing a great amount of debate. The immense size of the Franciscan Order combined with the
mass amount of popularity that the Order gained made changes in the ideology and objectives of
Francis messages and teaching almost an inevitable necessity. Some could argue that in many ways
the Franciscan Order s original ideologies were a victim of the movement s success. This is evident in
the main rules of the Order, what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Francis did not want any kind of class distinction in his Order. However, as the priests became more in
number, so did their demands for books and altars. And lastly was the matter of study, Francis was
against any kind of studying, he felt that it interfered with the notion of absolute poverty and humility,
but none of the priest friars were open to the idea of being entirely cut off from any form of
intellectual pursuit. They argued that education was required in order to preach, convert and prevent
heresy. The sheer size of the Order, accompanied by the feelings of many of the new members with no
direct loyalty to Francis made it nearly impossible for his followers to maintain Francis ideals and
objectives while he was still alive. New members in distance provinces had no real or physical
connection with the saint except for the popular piety that his order had evoked. Many wanted rules
within the Order changed, and with the large number of reformers, it became more difficult for Francis
to maintain the direction of the Order he had founded. These were just the initial problems that the
Franciscan Order faced, after the death of Francis in 1226 many of the rules dealing with main
ideologies began to shift from austere to lax, and as a result there was a splitting and shifting in the
faction.
Another problem with the Order was the ideal to live a life like Christ, to be a lowly person and

What Is Le Corbusier s View Of Classism

movement and how modernism was used to create a new idea or style of living.
It will discuss Le Corbusier s view of classism and how his ideas of modernism influenced the future
of architecture and the design of a revolutionary building in Paris: Cité de Refuge.
Architecture was defined as a play of volumes under light, proportions and regulating lines by the
father of modernism Le Corbusier. His architectural philosophy was defined by Stephan Bayley as
elegant, simple and correct (Gerry, 2008). Classical architecture is defined as architecture which refers
to Greek and Roman architecture (classical antiquity) and also ... Show more content on

Cité de Refuge was the first chance that Le Corbusier had to deal with housing for the poor in a city.
(Roberts, 2010) (Army, 2017)
Cité de Refuge was to be a place not only to house the poor but to transform them into members of the
society. Le Corbisier saw Cité de Refuge as a machine for people to live in, work in and sleep in, he
saw it as an opportunity for them to learn how to live. The Cité consisted of dormitories, apartments
for single mothers, and a crĂšche for working mothers, a canteen and an area for the training of
workers. (Taylor, 1987)
Le Corbusier did intense research about city planning, plated glass and metal frames. Cité de refuge
was one of the first opportunities that Le Corbusier had to experiment with some of his ideas, research
and theories. Le Corbusier suggested a double curtain wall for the south façade of the building. The

Leisure is something that most people enjoy. Whether it s going away for a weekend spa break, taking
long walks, or spending a day off fixing an old car, the way we experience leisure varies from person
to person. As Jon Pike points in Chapter 1, some activities may not seem like leisure to some people.
Taking long walks could seem like a way to make yourself exercise more, for example. But if you go
for walks for no other reason than you enjoy it, the activity becomes leisure.
In this essay, I will be looking closely at leisure activities from both the ancient world, and the modern
one, and discussing how social status impacted on the way people experienced leisure. I will start by
discussing leisure amongst the Romans, giving brief examples of what they did for leisure, then
moving on to talk about if, or how, social status amongst them affected their experience of it. Then, I
will move on to discuss leisure in the modern world, again, giving brief examples of what we do for
leisure, then talking about whether or not social status affects how we experience it. ... Show more

A Report On The Healthcare Industry
In years past, the healthcare industry focused on payment from patient volume; however, recent
modifications have changed that focus to payment from value based care. For this reason, hospitals
need to engage physicians in cost containment measures. To balance service line operations and move
toward greater profitability, physician engagement is essential. Once accomplished, improvement in
overall operating margins will follow.
The world of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) continues to expand
From the end of 2012 to the end of 2013, the number of public and private sector ACOs increased by

The majority of physician employers are too dependent on using compensation as the mechanism to
influence physicians behaviors. The limited understanding physicians have of the risk based payment
models, in conjunction with their inherent risk aversion, make accepting these approaches difficult;
thus, hindering the possibility for an increase in higher value care. Physicians become overwhelmed or
feel as if they are not prepared to implement or accommodate changes. Additionally, they have a
limited understanding of the ways their behavior influences inefficiency and waste.
The McKinsey Company study states that, health systems and health plans should develop a true
capacity in physician engagement, which is much broader than, and does not necessarily include
employment. Employing physicians is very costly, often fails to deliver the intended value and is not
crucial to achieving physician engagement. The report suggests the way in which physicians are
engaged is a crucial aspect of driving change; more so than any contractual mechanism.

Discursive Practices and Gendered Reflections of Its Use
Introduction
The following theoretical framework is divided in five sections. The first one deals with the
background to the study where a classification of research studies is done in terms of the way that
language and discourse have been researched. The second part reflects the issue of gender in applied
linguistics. The third tackles some key conceptualizations of literacy in terms of the research study.
The fourth aims to explain how writing is undertaken to fulfill a brief description of the basis that
underlies the study. Within it, it is explained the write to learn perspective that is the scope of the
investigation.
Background to the study
Bucholtz (2003) asserts that discourse is language in context. Discourse enables establishing the
existing relationship between language and gender within a given context. Then, discourse becomes
the materialization of such a relationship. That is why discourse analysis has become one of the most
outstanding methodologies to unravel gender issues within the EFL classroom.
The foci of these studies have been the way the discursive practices are used and what gendered
reflections this use shows. Some of these studies stress discourse as an anthropological tradition
(Bucholtz, 2003). This point of view highlights how language is used in the cultural practices of the
human beings. It also cares for the existing differences between men and women; but most
importantly the closed relationship between culture and language use Explain

Essay on Aztec and Inca Religious Zeal
Aztec and Inca Religious Zeal
The Aztec and Inca peoples lived in militaristic and expansionist societies whose ideals were fueled by
their religious convictions. Expansionism was necessary for both societies to support their religious
beliefs. The religious zeal of these two civilizations became something that the leaders of the empires
could not control. These empires were built through ideologically driven conquests, which became the
cornerstones of their societies and something beyond the control of the rulers. Every imperialistic
nation has a motive for expansion. Military, materialism, and missionary are three of the biggest
motives foe expansion that imperialistic countries use to expand their borders. Conquests ... Show

This required the Mexicas to go out and make war with their neighbors and then ruthlessly take
prisoners of war for later sacrifice. It was believed that the strength from the sacrificed captives souls
would strengthen the sun in its ongoing battle with the forces of darkness (Conrad, 38). This need for
the sun to constantly be appeased set the Mexica people out on divine missions for sacrificial bodies
that took the form of imperial conquests. Mexica rulers flooded their lands with propaganda that
promoted their imperialistic religion. Most of the Aztec s art and literature was made up of this
propaganda, which created this religious fervor among the people that grew beyond the control of the
ruling elites. Oral literature, monumental art, written codices, and public and private ceremonies
instilled and continually reinforced belief in the divine struggle and the unceasing need for sacrificial
victims (Conrad, 51). Furthermore, religious zeal was strengthened by the guarantee that immortality
would be granted to warriors who died in the divine quest and increased social standing awaited those
who faired well in wars (Conrad, 52). The Aztec empire was conquering new lands but not staying to
govern them. Moctezuma II inherited not only a tradition of glorious military achievement but also its
product: a far flung, loosely organized, and totally unstable imperial hegemony (Conrad, 60).

Aladdin Character Analysis
Analysis:
Jasmine is a fifteen year old female princess from a place called Agrabah which is located in a desert
in the Middle East. She is a princess by decent as she is the daughter of the Sultan. In the movie she
must choose a suitor in three day before her birthday as it is the day she and her suitor will become the
Sultan and the Sultan s wife.
She was the first of the princesses to have an outgoing, stubborn, opinionated and independent
personality. This is shown when she disagrees with the marriage law and at the end of the movie when
she obliterated the law. She also gets rid of the law that states a princess cannot marry a street rat
causing her to be able to marry Aladdin. She is also kind as demonstrated when she takes an apple and
gives it to a hungry child.
Jasmine was the sixth princess to grace our screens and she did so in 1992 in the movie Aladdin.
Aladdin is about a street rat who is kind of heart, which is shown when he gives the bread he merely
escaped death to retrieve, to a little girl and boy he sees rummaging through the trash to find food.
Aladdin re enters the town from the back alleys and finds a peasant girl (Jasmine in disguise as she ran
away from the palace) who has just stolen from a store so that she could give a hungry street child
some food. She states to the clerk that she doesn t have any money but will go back to the palace to

The Wrestler, By Darren Aronofsky Essay
The human condition, or what it means to be human, is a term the encoumpasses the innate and
unchangable aspects of human nature. It is the unique and inherent features of being human,
uninfluenced by factors such as race, class, gender or time. This idea has been examined through
literature for hundreds of years by the likes of Shakespeare, who through his philosophical depth has
given profound insights into human nature. As Noam Chomsky expressed it is quite possible
overwhelmingly probable, one might guess that we will always learn more about human life and
personality from novels than from scientific psychology. Darren Aronofsky s 2008 film The Wrestler,
due to its emotive exploration of what it means to be human, is strikingly compelling and speaks to the
audience on a human level. The film is a poignant portrayal of a washed up wrestler, Randy, in the
twilight of his career. Through Randy, Aronofsky is able to explore intrinsic characteristics that define
the human condition such as humans need for relationships and connections, search for recognition,
and awareness of the inevitability of death. Cormac McCarthy s The Road is an exemplary novel
which discusses the human condition and where these ideas are also seen. Texts that explore what it
means to be human are most compelling as they impart knowledge about aspects of human nature that
reside in us all, and rous strong feelings of interest among the reader or audience. Sociality is essential

The Importance Of Paranormal Activity
Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost.
Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant
because people will know if it s a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity. A
second reason why it s relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what s happening and
know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about
paranormal activity for example saying it s your brain and it s not real. Paranormal activity is real.
Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific
evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it s happened before to
people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. A family friend said, Our

Endgame Essay
In Samuel Beckett s, Endgame, Nagg presents a comedic joke by saying that Look at the world and
look at my TROUSERS. (Beckett, 775) This moment is comedic because he s comparing the creation
of the earth to the amount of weeks it took the tailor to make his trousers. Furthermore, this moment
affected me emotionally since one of the central themes throughout the story is death. There are many
instances of juxtaposes between the earth and the beauty of man s creation. Hamm, for example,
repeatedly states that there is no cure for living on earth and even goes as far as comparing this
experience to hell. The way in which Hamm describes the existing environment of living on earth is
astounding to hear since this supports the idea that he doesn t view life as a luxury. ... Show more

The idea that it took God only six days to make the world yet it took the tailor several weeks to make
a pair of trousers was certainly comical. I, however, found it odd and strange to see the perspectives of
Nagg and Nell in terms of how they approached life. It s not that they don t want to be alive, but in the
same they don t necessarily want to be dead. They simply don t see a purpose, which may explain why
he inserts these unconventional and absurd jokes in his play.
This strange dynamic brings into question the idea that their existence doesn t have any great
significance to it. There are certainly other examples throughout the text that support this hypothesis;
however it goes back to the central idea of human existence. This scene in particular is relevant to the
entire story as it reinforces the contradictions of humans and death. By emphasizing how pathetic the
world is, Beckett is painting a catastrophic picture of the earth as well as the consequences of living in

  • 2. Sample Of Recommendation Letter To Ms. Raina Wright I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ms. Raina Wright. Raina is my god daughter and I have known her since her birth. Her father and I were classmates in Podiatry school, his widow and I remain good friends to this day. It is because of the time I have spent watching her grow into the young woman that she is, that I can vouch for her upstanding character. In the years that I have known her, Raina has displayed many of the characteristics of an aspiring woman of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has exemplified scholarship by being on the Dean s List and the Honor Roll during her matriculation at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She has also exemplified community service by being involved in such activities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with her siblings, Alice, Louise, and Edwin, Harper was educated in Monroeville Public Schools before going on to attend Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. After a year at Huntingdon, Lee decided to follow in the footsteps of her father and began studying law at the University of Alabama in 1945 [2]. She left there to study abroad at Oxford University, Wellington Court in England [4]. After returning to the United States, she continued her education at the University of Alabama. The book was also chosen as a Reader s Digest Condensed Book, a Book of the Month book, and a Literary Guild Selection. Outside of the United States, the book was just as successful. In Great Britian, for example, it remained on the bestsellers list for many months and was selected as the British Book Society Top Book of the Year. In addition to this, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into several foreign languages [3]. Over the years, Harper Lee has received several awards for her writing abilities. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson appointed Lee to the National Council of Arts [1]. In 1990, she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Alabama. Seven years later, Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, awarded Lee with an honorary doctorate of human letters for her lyrical elegance, her portrayal of human strength, and wisdom [2]. Harper Lee s career as a writer has been limited since the publication of her critically acclaimed novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. In 1961, she published two essays: Love In Other Words and Christmas to Me. Four years later, When Children Discover America was published [3]. Martian Compare And Contrast Book And Movie Have you ever read a book and watched the movie of it after and had that moment when you realize all the similarities and differences this is very true for almost every book and movie combo are like this. One book and movie combo like this was the martian. One way the Martian is similar in the movie and the book is the setting and the characters are all the same from the book to the movie which to me makes a lot of sense because the important roles they play in the two are part of what makes the story fit from beginning to end. In my opinion they set up the fact that he is a botanist and that to me is what made the whole story come together. But the sales of PCs isn t growing which makes it imperative for Lenovo to focus on its mobile phone segment in order to be a tech leader. • 6. Effectiveness Of Reading Comprehension Strategies This paper focuses on two major concerns: the effectiveness of reading comprehension strategies and the effectiveness of professional development. There has been a great amount of study and writing on both topics. In addition to these subtopics, the topic of reading inventories will also be explored with regards to the Scholastic Reading Inventory and the use of these tools in evaluating comprehension in reading. Reading comprehension strategies. Throughout the history of reading education, there has been extensive research on phonological awareness and phonics. More recently, educational theorists have also recognized and researched the need for instructing students in the use of comprehension strategies in reading (Muspratt, Luke, Freebody, 1997). Block, Gambrell, and Pressley (2002) state The message is clear the most important thing about reading is comprehension (p. 3) Reading comprehension is the process of acquiring meaning from written text ( Block, Gambrell, Pressley, 2002, p. 4) and is an interactive process involving the reader, the text, and the context (p. 5). While there are many ideas on the most effective way to teach comprehension skills, most agree on a few basic skills that students should know. Keene and Zimmerman (1997) identify 7 key comprehension strategies: making connections, visualizing, questioning, inferring, synthesis, problem solving, and deciding what is important. I realized that potential and determined to step in with some support. With this in mind, I arrange a meeting with Ms. Linda. Pre observation conference: This is a formative conference between a novice teacher, Ms. Linda and the supervisor, me. I was seated behind my desk as Ms. Linda walked in. I invited Ms. Linda to sit down in a chair directly across from me. Supervisor: Ms. Linda, I would like you to know I really appreciate your insistent belief and zeal for work. This had been tested by scientists with the Golden Globe Weaver spiders and led to most of the spider farm being wiped out due to their cannibalism. So instead scientists looked to finding out if a different organism could produce the spider silk, like goats. First, the experts had to identify the gene that spiders had that produced the kind of silk they were looking for. Eventually they found that there were six variations that spiders produce. The one that the scientists decided on is called dragline silk, it makes up the framework of a spider s web. They then experimented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only misgivings I have are for how far scientists will go in modifying organisms in the future after conquering small changes in biology such as this. I fear that they may experiment too much with the genetics of organisms and the original nature may be obliterated with changes that might be added. • 9. Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay Sometime in late 1950 s Minsky started warning about the gradual shift of the economy from a very robust financial system that was stable and with no financial crisis in the early postwar period. He had called with his analysis that gradually over time debts in the private sector would tend to build up and increasingly risky financial innovations would increase over time. He is very famous for the statement that stability itself is destabilizing. Although things seem very stable today, gradually over time that stability would build confidence in individuals to take increasingly risky positions in assets. The model that he had built explains financial crisis in the economic system. He brings up that supply of credit increases during boom and abruptly decreased during economic slowdown. It seems almost intuitive that from a standpoint of an investor the great time to invest is when economy is booming to increase his or her profitability. Lenders as the investors become increasingly optimistic about their return and they both become less sensitive to risk. Bach is now regarded as one of the greatest composers of all composers and is a source of inspiration for musicians. While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldi was the son of a professional violinist whose musical career cantered in Italy. Born on March 4, 1678, Vivaldi was a virtuoso violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos. Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent this, he was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with the Ospedale della Pieta, a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their mistresses. • 15. Summary OfAmerican Sonnet To My Past And Future Assassin Societal Reluctance and Reflection American Sonnet to my Past and Future Assassin by Terrance Hayes is a modern American sonnet whose focus is a black man struggling to comprehend his place in society. The speaker of the poem illustrates his dilemma through comparisons to the respected black musicians of the twentieth century to whom he feels a deep connection to. The tone of the sonnet is one of contemplation, or even uncertainty, as the speaker outlines his thoughts in reluctance, questioning both himself and his audience. Befitting of the overall tone, the sonnet commences with uncertainty, plainly illustrated with the language of the speaker s initial statement: I m not sure how to hold my face when I dance (1), for he arranges his words to portray a feeling of vacillation. Immediately following this reflective proclamation, the speaker poses three questions, all of which allude to the contemplative tone apparent in the text. While these inquiries regard the subject of dance, the speaker also intends for them to be metaphors for the uncertainty he, as a black man, has for his place in society. His questions are rapid fire, almost probing the audience for answers that are seemingly nonexistent. As a result of the rapidity, there is an absence of breaks for these questions to be answered, evincing the speaker s belief that they, in fact, have no answers. These first four sentences are crucial in the sonnet s development, as they kindle ruminations for both the speaker and the audience. Promptly thereafter, the narrator compares his own hesitant nature to the eminent musician Jimi Hendrix, and how, I hear Jimi Hendrix /Was also unsure in dance despite being beautiful /And especially attuned (5 7). Similar to the preceding lines, reluctance cloaks the prose like a veil. Note how the line begins with I hear... The narrator uses this as a prelude to the claim to emanate a feeling of uncertainty. Moreover, in his dubiety, the speaker appears to treat the comparison as almost frivolous and trivial; ergo, the connection itself upholds the poem s hesitant tone. Regardless, this remark can also be interpreted as an analogy for society. Hendrix, despite his unequivocal beauty, had difficulty discerning his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mildred Pierce Patriarchy The films Mildred Pierce (Michael Curtiz, 1945) and Thirteen (Catherine Hardwicke, 2003) portray the Freudian myth that examines the view of feminine subservience apropos a patriarchy infused society. Hence, the conflict at the crux of the Maternal Melodrama that relates to the classical conflict (Chaos vs. Order) underlying most Hollywood genres is Autonomy vs. Control. In Mildred Pierce, the female characters representing Autonomy are posited against male Control. This Maternal Melodrama conflates with Film Noir so as it reflects the prevailing social context; women were breadwinners in the 40s, however, in the postwar era, hegemonic masculinity reasserted itself by divesting women of any power they had gained while the patriarchal order was suspended during WWII. Consequently, classical Hollywood narratives portrayed the impending chaos as women resisted patriarchy; such conflict was subtly present in the post feminist era. Accordingly, in Thirteen, Tracy ... Eventually, Melanie succeeds in subduing Tracy, who feebly resists her restraining if loving embrace. This act of containment counters the symbolic castration and legitimizes women s potency. As Tracy wakes up next to Melanie, the sun beaming down on them suggests that order has been established. This is further emphasized with her spinning as if out of her chaotic life on a merry go round and releasing the repressed pain in screaming. Beverly Daniel Tatum, an author of several books including Why Are Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria asks, How did academic achievement become defined as exclusively white behavior? Tatum has an interesting point, however stereotyping is not just about race it can be about gender bias, or body issues too. Ann DuCille, author of From Multicultural Barbie and the Merchandising of Difference says; Barbie s body is a consumer object itself a vehicle for display of clothing and spectacular trappings of a wealthy teenage fantasy life . Ducille gives a good example of body politics, and the importance of not only focusing on race. Thus, is a good example of how stereotypes are learned by how one is treated in school or at home. Education about racial identity, gender equality, and body shaming, to an extent, will help eliminate some forms of stereotyping and create a more understanding and equal society. Therefore schools are not the problem, stereotypes, however racist, sexist, or just plain mean, are learned at home and in schools from peers, parents and teachers alike. In a way, stereotypes will never truly be eliminated from our world because from the day we are born we notice differences. Also if they had too much debt, they could account for the instrument with 20% as debt and 80% as equity. This would make it look as if they do not have too much debt or too much equity. • 30. What Is Le Corbusier s View Of Classism The Machine of Living. In this essay one would read about how Classism challenged modernism or developed the modernist movement and how modernism was used to create a new idea or style of living. It will discuss Le Corbusier s view of classism and how his ideas of modernism influenced the future of architecture and the design of a revolutionary building in Paris: CitĂ© de Refuge. Architecture was defined as a play of volumes under light, proportions and regulating lines by the father of modernism Le Corbusier. His architectural philosophy was defined by Stephan Bayley as elegant, simple and correct (Gerry, 2008). Classical architecture is defined as architecture which refers to Greek and Roman architecture (classical antiquity) and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CitĂ© de Refuge was the first chance that Le Corbusier had to deal with housing for the poor in a city. (Roberts, 2010) (Army, 2017) CitĂ© de Refuge was to be a place not only to house the poor but to transform them into members of the society. Le Corbisier saw CitĂ© de Refuge as a machine for people to live in, work in and sleep in, he saw it as an opportunity for them to learn how to live. The CitĂ© consisted of dormitories, apartments for single mothers, and a crĂšche for working mothers, a canteen and an area for the training of workers. (Taylor, 1987) Le Corbusier did intense research about city planning, plated glass and metal frames. CitĂ© de refuge was one of the first opportunities that Le Corbusier had to experiment with some of his ideas, research and theories. Le Corbusier suggested a double curtain wall for the south façade of the building. The wall worked on the concept of mechanically conditioned air between the opening of the two ... • 31. Romans Lifestyle references to both the ancient and modern world. Leisure is something that most people enjoy. Whether it s going away for a weekend spa break, taking long walks, or spending a day off fixing an old car, the way we experience leisure varies from person to person. As Jon Pike points in Chapter 1, some activities may not seem like leisure to some people. Taking long walks could seem like a way to make yourself exercise more, for example. But if you go for walks for no other reason than you enjoy it, the activity becomes leisure. In this essay, I will be looking closely at leisure activities from both the ancient world, and the modern one, and discussing how social status impacted on the way people experienced leisure. I will start by discussing leisure amongst the Romans, giving brief examples of what they did for leisure, then moving on to talk about if, or how, social status amongst them affected their experience of it. Then, I will move on to discuss leisure in the modern world, again, giving brief examples of what we do for leisure, then talking about whether or not social status affects how we experience it. ... The main form of leisure for upper class Romans was the villa. • 32. A Report On The Healthcare Industry In years past, the healthcare industry focused on payment from patient volume; however, recent modifications have changed that focus to payment from value based care. For this reason, hospitals need to engage physicians in cost containment measures. To balance service line operations and move toward greater profitability, physician engagement is essential. Once accomplished, improvement in overall operating margins will follow. The world of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) continues to expand From the end of 2012 to the end of 2013, the number of public and private sector ACOs increased by 203 percent. During that same period, ACO covered lives increased from 13.6 million to 18.2 million, a jump of 34 percent. A report from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of physician employers are too dependent on using compensation as the mechanism to influence physicians behaviors. The limited understanding physicians have of the risk based payment models, in conjunction with their inherent risk aversion, make accepting these approaches difficult; thus, hindering the possibility for an increase in higher value care. Physicians become overwhelmed or feel as if they are not prepared to implement or accommodate changes. Additionally, they have a limited understanding of the ways their behavior influences inefficiency and waste. The McKinsey Company study states that, health systems and health plans should develop a true capacity in physician engagement, which is much broader than, and does not necessarily include employment. Employing physicians is very costly, often fails to deliver the intended value and is not crucial to achieving physician engagement. The report suggests the way in which physicians are engaged is a crucial aspect of driving change; more so than any contractual mechanism. Strategies to incite physician engagement Because each association is different, a one size fits all approach is not feasible. However, there is a variety of strategies an ... • 33. Discursive Practices and Gendered Reflections of Its Use Introduction The following theoretical framework is divided in five sections. The first one deals with the background to the study where a classification of research studies is done in terms of the way that language and discourse have been researched. The second part reflects the issue of gender in applied linguistics. The third tackles some key conceptualizations of literacy in terms of the research study. The fourth aims to explain how writing is undertaken to fulfill a brief description of the basis that underlies the study. Within it, it is explained the write to learn perspective that is the scope of the investigation. Background to the study Bucholtz (2003) asserts that discourse is language in context. Discourse enables establishing the existing relationship between language and gender within a given context. Then, discourse becomes the materialization of such a relationship. That is why discourse analysis has become one of the most outstanding methodologies to unravel gender issues within the EFL classroom. The foci of these studies have been the way the discursive practices are used and what gendered reflections this use shows. Some of these studies stress discourse as an anthropological tradition (Bucholtz, 2003). This point of view highlights how language is used in the cultural practices of the human beings. It also cares for the existing differences between men and women; but most importantly the closed relationship between culture and language use Explain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay on Aztec and Inca Religious Zeal Aztec and Inca Religious Zeal The Aztec and Inca peoples lived in militaristic and expansionist societies whose ideals were fueled by their religious convictions. Expansionism was necessary for both societies to support their religious beliefs. The religious zeal of these two civilizations became something that the leaders of the empires could not control. These empires were built through ideologically driven conquests, which became the cornerstones of their societies and something beyond the control of the rulers. Every imperialistic nation has a motive for expansion. Military, materialism, and missionary are three of the biggest motives foe expansion that imperialistic countries use to expand their borders. It was believed that the strength from the sacrificed captives souls would strengthen the sun in its ongoing battle with the forces of darkness (Conrad, 38). This need for the sun to constantly be appeased set the Mexica people out on divine missions for sacrificial bodies that took the form of imperial conquests. Mexica rulers flooded their lands with propaganda that promoted their imperialistic religion. Most of the Aztec s art and literature was made up of this propaganda, which created this religious fervor among the people that grew beyond the control of the ruling elites. Oral literature, monumental art, written codices, and public and private ceremonies instilled and continually reinforced belief in the divine struggle and the unceasing need for sacrificial victims (Conrad, 51). Furthermore, religious zeal was strengthened by the guarantee that immortality would be granted to warriors who died in the divine quest and increased social standing awaited those who faired well in wars (Conrad, 52). The Aztec empire was conquering new lands but not staying to govern them. Moctezuma II inherited not only a tradition of glorious military achievement but also its product: a far flung, loosely organized, and totally unstable imperial hegemony (Conrad, 60). • 35. Aladdin Character Analysis Analysis: Jasmine is a fifteen year old female princess from a place called Agrabah which is located in a desert in the Middle East. She is a princess by decent as she is the daughter of the Sultan. In the movie she must choose a suitor in three day before her birthday as it is the day she and her suitor will become the Sultan and the Sultan s wife. She was the first of the princesses to have an outgoing, stubborn, opinionated and independent personality. This is shown when she disagrees with the marriage law and at the end of the movie when she obliterated the law. She also gets rid of the law that states a princess cannot marry a street rat causing her to be able to marry Aladdin. She is also kind as demonstrated when she takes an apple and gives it to a hungry child. Jasmine was the sixth princess to grace our screens and she did so in 1992 in the movie Aladdin. Aladdin is about a street rat who is kind of heart, which is shown when he gives the bread he merely escaped death to retrieve, to a little girl and boy he sees rummaging through the trash to find food. Aladdin re enters the town from the back alleys and finds a peasant girl (Jasmine in disguise as she ran away from the palace) who has just stolen from a store so that she could give a hungry street child some food. She states to the clerk that she doesn t have any money but will go back to the palace to retrieve some but he doesn t believe her and is just about to sever her hands, as it was the fair punishment ... • 36. The Wrestler, By Darren Aronofsky Essay The human condition, or what it means to be human, is a term the encoumpasses the innate and unchangable aspects of human nature. It is the unique and inherent features of being human, uninfluenced by factors such as race, class, gender or time. This idea has been examined through literature for hundreds of years by the likes of Shakespeare, who through his philosophical depth has given profound insights into human nature. As Noam Chomsky expressed it is quite possible overwhelmingly probable, one might guess that we will always learn more about human life and personality from novels than from scientific psychology. Darren Aronofsky s 2008 film The Wrestler, due to its emotive exploration of what it means to be human, is strikingly compelling and speaks to the audience on a human level. The film is a poignant portrayal of a washed up wrestler, Randy, in the twilight of his career. Through Randy, Aronofsky is able to explore intrinsic characteristics that define the human condition such as humans need for relationships and connections, search for recognition, and awareness of the inevitability of death. Cormac McCarthy s The Road is an exemplary novel which discusses the human condition and where these ideas are also seen. Texts that explore what it means to be human are most compelling as they impart knowledge about aspects of human nature that reside in us all, and rous strong feelings of interest among the reader or audience. • 37. The Importance Of Paranormal Activity Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost. Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant because people will know if it s a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity. A second reason why it s relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what s happening and know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about paranormal activity for example saying it s your brain and it s not real. Paranormal activity is real. Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it s happened before to people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. The cops came with their guns out and they went down into the basement and found nobody, but all the stuff was tipped over. • 38. Endgame Essay In Samuel Beckett s, Endgame, Nagg presents a comedic joke by saying that Look at the world and look at my TROUSERS. (Beckett, 775) This moment is comedic because he s comparing the creation of the earth to the amount of weeks it took the tailor to make his trousers. Furthermore, this moment affected me emotionally since one of the central themes throughout the story is death. There are many instances of juxtaposes between the earth and the beauty of man s creation. Hamm, for example, repeatedly states that there is no cure for living on earth and even goes as far as comparing this experience to hell. The way in which Hamm describes the existing environment of living on earth is astounding to hear since this supports the idea that he doesn t view life as a luxury. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea that it took God only six days to make the world yet it took the tailor several weeks to make a pair of trousers was certainly comical. I, however, found it odd and strange to see the perspectives of Nagg and Nell in terms of how they approached life. It s not that they don t want to be alive, but in the same they don t necessarily want to be dead. They simply don t see a purpose, which may explain why he inserts these unconventional and absurd jokes in his play. This strange dynamic brings into question the idea that their existence doesn t have any great significance to it. There are certainly other examples throughout the text that support this hypothesis; however it goes back to the central idea of human existence. This scene in particular is relevant to the entire story as it reinforces the contradictions of humans and death.
