Earl Warren s Supreme Court Rulings
Earl Warren s Supreme Court rulings helped various rights for many Americans, most of which
are still used and enforced today. The Warren s Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education
ruled that segregation in public schools as unconstitutional. It s rulings on Mapp v. Ohio ended up
resulting in the exclusionary rule. The rule made any evidence obtained illegally as inadmissible
in court. In Reynold s v. Sims required that legislative districts across states be made as equal as
possible in population. Miranda v. Arizona resulted that your rights be read to you upon arrest or
questioning. Each of these court cases helped to enforce and enhance the rights of many Americans.
The case known as Brown v. Board of Educationwas actually the name that was given to five
separate cases that were heard by the U.S. Supreme Court (History Brown v. Board of Education
Re enactment). The cases were all combined because each case sought out desegregation as the
remedy for grossly inadequate conditions in segregated black schools (Brown v. Board of
Education). When meeting to decide the case, the Justices were divided over the issues that were
raised. They were unable to come to a conclusion by June 1953 the end of the Courts 1952 1953
term. The Justices decided to rehear the case again in December. During that time, Chief Justice
Fred Vinson died and was replaced by Earl Warren. When the case was reheard in December 1953,
Chief Justice Earl Warren was able to bring all the

Tobacco s Harmful Effects, Health and Economic Essay
Tobacco kills five million people yearly, which is much more then HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, and
Malaria combined, according to International Union Against Cancer. This addicting drug can in
fact end up giving the user a death sentence. As the body grows older, the DNA atoms can be
mutated by this seemingly harmless plant. This mutation of cells can eventually spread and the
user will end up with a body full of cancer. These cancer sticks or cigarettes are not only harmful
to your body but also hard on your wallet. The eradication of the use of tobaccowould deplete the
health risks associated with tobacco, and would put needed money back into the people s wallets.

These health risks all add up to a higher death rate. American Cancer Society and World Lung
Foundation reported that tobacco use causes six million deaths a year, a third of those deaths are
from cancer. According to VaHealth.org, smoking causes approximately four hundred thousand
deaths per year. Health warnings along with the impact on American wallets are the main two basic
reasons for eradicating tobacco use. These health warnings are not the only reason for eradicating
tobacco use, the other reason is the impact on the people s wallet. The extermination of tobacco
would not only put needed money into pockets, but it would drop the cost down to bare minimum
to account for the deflation. The tobacco industry tells the public that it employs close to two
hundred thousand employees, but according to Corp Watch, the manufacturing and farming
employees have plummeted due to mechanization, and increased the amount of imported tobacco
from foreign countries. In the U.S. right now the unemployment rate has increased to ten percent of
the total population in the United States, according to MSN money. According to Center for
Disease Control, the total amount of public and private health expenditures caused by the use of
tobacco is 96 billion dollars a year. This is the amount of money that Americans throw away each
year on health care bills are due to smoking, chewing, and consuming second hand

The Church Is Holy Through Complete Devotion And Love For God
The church is holy through complete devotion and love for God. Because the church is holy, the
church has the duty to love and take care of all people. Holiness is a dedication to God. This
dedication is formed individually by the people of God, who are the church. However, not every
person of God is one hundred percent holy. Only Jesus Christ had complete dedication to God, but
the church strives for this dedication. Throughout time, there has been role models of holiness
within the church known as saints. Throughout the church s history, there has been many saints
that lived their life in complete devotion to God. For example, Joan of Arc was known as a Fool
for God. As a teenager, she trusted the Lord and followed her call to lead a French army to victory.
She went against all odds but continued to put her faith in the Lord. Even when she was captured
and burned at the stake, the saintnever lost her faith. James Martin writes in his book, My Life
with the Saints, Joan was devoted to Jesus Christ, to prayer, to the sacraments, to the church, and
to its saints. She believed in God even when God asked her to accomplish the seemingly
impossible, (My life with the Saints, 25). Pedro Arrupe, another saint studied within the book
stated the following about devotion to God, He or she is a person who hast the conviction that
Gods knows, can do, and will do what is best for mankind, (My Life with the Saints, 91).
Throughout life, the people of God face many setbacks, but

Fort Hood Shooting
I examined the Fox News, Al Jazeera, New York Times, and Huffington Post websites. I
examined all four of these websites on April 2, 2014 between 5:30p.m and 8p.m. On the Fox
News website the top story was about the Fort Hood shooting. The headline was BREAKING
NEWS: At least 4 dead, 14 injured in shooting at Fort HoodThe breaking news text was in all
capitals and it was bright red. The lead was A shooting at Ft. Hood that reportedly left at least four
dead including the shooter and 14 injured Wednesday was a soldier on soldier incident without any
preliminary terrorism link, a senior Department of Homeland Security source told FoxNews.com.
On the Huffington post website the top story in also about the Fort Hood shooting. The headline
in NEW FORT HOOD SHOOTING this headline is in all caps and is also bright red. The lead is A
shooting at Fort Hood on Wednesday left at least one person dead and injured multiple people.
On the New York Times website the top story was not about the Fort Hood shooting, but there
was an article about it just below the main story. The headline was Fort Hood Shooting Leaves
One Dead, 14 Injured The lead was A shooting Wednesday night left at least four people dead and
at least 14 wounded at Fort Hood, the sprawling Army facility that in 2009 was the site of the

Tuck Northrop Leadership
Tuck Northrop should receive the Beard Award because I truly cannot think of a person who is
as caring and kind as he is and also excels in so many areas. I m a junior at Fairfield Ludlowe
High School, and though Tuck is not one of my academic teachers, he coaches me in both the fall
and spring on our high schoolsailing team.
Though I was only a freshman and had not experienced the team pre Tuck, everything I had
heard of the past years was only negative. But from the second Tuck arrived as our coach, the
team has been on a continuous incline to some of the best years that the Fairfield Sailing Team
has experienced in its existence. We do have a few good sailors on the team from their own past
experience, but I definitely credit Tuck s coaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is not a single coach out there who cares about his sailors more than Tuck. I have been on
many teams in the past, and not one coach dedicates as much time or care into the team as Tuck
does. In the three years that he has been our coach so far, we have greatly increased our team
building activities off the water, which has ultimately made the team stronger than ever in its
overall chemistry, disregarding just our skills and knowledge of the sport. Tuck also knows
each of the team members very well individually, which allows him to pick the best team
pairings and also teach us based on our individual personalities, goals, and weaknesses. He wants
each one of us to succeed more than anyone I know, and is willing to do everything he possibly
can in order to help us on our own personal paths to success in sailing, academics, or more. I have
no doubt that Tuck knows each of his students just as well in the classroom as he does on our team,
allowing him to interact with both his students and us much more easily than other teachers. His
ability to unite all of the team members enables our success overall to have reached our current
achievements and hopefully even more in the future.
While these two highlights of Tuck s personality and ideals demonstrate very well the type of
person he is, he has so many more great qualities including his generosity, ambition, and fun loving
nature. Though

Christian Beliefs Of The Trinity
A cornerstone teaching of many Christian beliefs is that of the Trinity. It is also a debated and
misunderstood concept. Besides being just outright refuted, there are a couple of ways in which the
Trinity is misunderstood. These misunderstandings can relate to other religions which a person may
be more familiar with, or might believe. Godas the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is a difficult
concept to embrace fully but is not much unlike the concept of understanding an omniscient and
omnipotent being that exists before during and after time. There are several explanations that help
our human brains comprehend the concept and differentiate the Trinityfrom other religions. Two
common religions view the Trinity as three gods such as Paganism or is one God that reveals
himself in three different forms or persons such as Monism. An individual with a Pagan view
might see the Trinity as three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as separate and
different but related gods with the same purpose. This would be a similar view similar a few that
of the Greeks with their many different God of the Pantheon. A person looking at the Trinity with
a background in something like Hinduism, might see the mentioning of the Trinity and related
back to their beliefs or knowledge. Hindu might see the Father as one God while the Son is a
manifestation of the father but not a true God. The same could be seen for the Holy Spirit. By
explaining the Trinity, it is seen of these views are

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
The dusty woven curtains at the end of the hall flapped halfheartedly in the breeze. The window
was open, letting in any random bug that happened to pass by, since it had no screen. Margery s
doing, probably. She was Queen of the Hot Flashes. Stopping in front of her apartment, I was
annoyed to see ketchup smeared under the brass numeral two.
Margery was such a slob when she d been drinking. She d pick up fast food, but be so bombed
that half the time she couldn t find her mouth. Burger wrappers, nibs of French fries, and oozing
condiment packets littered the floor of her posh Cadillac...probably the floor of her apartment, now,

As I dropped to my knees to check Marjory s pulse, a miasma of stale booze wafted towards me.
She was dead, alright. Dead drunk. I grabbed her by the shoulders, and, with an energy fueled by
fury, shook her until her teeth rattled. All I got for my efforts were a few moans and incoherent
mumbles and a piercing pain in my right hand.
Clambering to my feet, I pulled a bloody sliver from my palm. It left a nasty looking hole ripe
for infection, so I crossed the few short steps to the sink to wash it out. The ubiquitous orange
speckled shag rug did not extend into this area. Instead, the floor was covered in a linoleum of
fake bricks, one of the few improvements that actually pleased my eye. My gaze drifted to the
frying pan still smoking on the stove, and I felt a flash of anger again. Margery could ve burned
the place down with her reckless behavior.
Payback time, I thought, as I turned on the tap and let the cold water sting my wound. I searched
the metal cabinet under the sink with my free hand until I found a dented aluminum saucepan left
behind by a previous tenant. Perfect. Filling it with cold water, I returned to the bar and stood over

Essay Molar Heat of Combustion of Alkanols (Hsc Chem)
Molar Heat of Combustion
Aim:
To find the molar heat of combustion for four different alkanols:
1.Methanol
2.Ethanol
3.1 Propanol
4.1 Butanol
And to compare the experimental value with the theoretical.
Background:
The Molar Heat of Combustion of a substance is the heat liberated when 1 mole of the substance
undergoes complete combustion with oxygen at standard atmospheric pressure, with the final
products being carbon dioxide gas and liquid water. (Ref. Conquering Chemistry, Roland Smith,
2005 )
The Heat Capacity of a substance is the amount of heat energy it must consume in order to raise its
temperature by 1 Kelvin or 1В° Celsius. The heat capacity of 1 mol of a pure substance is known
as its molar heat capacity, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Battle Of Trafalgar Research Paper
Battle of Trafalgar On October 21, 1805 the combined fleets of Spain, France and the Royal
Navy made the last great sea action of this time. We do not know if this helped the war effort, but
the battle itself was a culmination of a long campaign. Europe was in peace for 14 months because
of the Treaty Amiens. Napoleon had plans to attack Europe but was frightened at the thought of
them being blockaded by the Royal Navy.
On March 30th Admiral Villeneuve managed to take over Nelson blockading him in Toulon.
Villeneuve sailed West waiting for Ganteaume, but Ganteaume failed to to break the British
blockade. Villeneuve was unable to reach Ferrol so he started sailing to Cadiz. He arrives in Cadiz

Case Study Of Nucor
Nucor Corporation is one of the major manufacturers of steel and steel products in the country. It
is considered 11th largest company when it comes to the global ranking of the company. Nucor
Corporation has faced several different challenges, which forced the Nucor to change its strategies
and come up with new strategies. Some of the challenges that Nucor Corporation faced are over
capacity. America s steelindustry has more capacity as compared to demands of the market. Unites
States steel industry is having large capacity to produce the steel and Nucor has to face the same
issue.
With the passage of time consumer demand is reducing, because now in the production process
people need less steel. Similarly auto sales have been reduced with ... Show more content on

Nucor has its entire stakes in this industry because it has invested huge amount in the business;
sustaining this business was very essential for the company. In order to hit back the market Nucor
done major changes in its administration method and its strategic planning. For instance, Nucor
Corporation left the conservative method of management and enters into market with new force and
planning.
Concepts:
Major concepts used in the case study of Nucor are following:
Horizontal merger:
Nucor has accepted the fact of the pressure they face it is not from domestic player only; it comes
from foreign competitors too. Nucor starts focusing on horizontal mergers to reduce its competitors
in the industry. Nucor focused on joint ventures and combined with Yamato Kogyo LTD to produce
its products in the structural steel industry. It turned out to be Nucor largest division (nucor.com,
2012)
Positioning:
Positioning means where a brand stands in the eyes of its target audience. Positioning helps the
marketers in giving them a proper strategy and makes the target audience view a brand in the same
manners. It focuses on priority or aim of the company. In the case of Nucor Corporation, it changes
its positioning and came up with new, innovative strategies and products for its potential buyers

Research Paper On Dr Heidegger s Experiment
The Elixir Dr. Heidegger s Experiment is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In this
story Dr. Heidegger, who is known to tell a thousand stories (Hawthorne 1), gets four old and
perhaps depressed friends to drink elixir . These people start to feel young and rejuvenated
again. In the process of reading this story a question presents itself. This question is whether the
elixir Dr.Heidegger is testing is actually real. The answer is simply yes, the elixir is real. One
piece of evidence is that the elixir brings back a rose that had been dead for fifty five years. The
third person narrator notes a physical change upon drinking the elixir and the four test subjects are
so in awe with the elixir that they set out to find its source... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Heidegger s Experiment , some of the story is told from a third person point of view. This is
significant for one quote in particular, There was a healthful suffusion on their cheeks, instead of
the ashen hue that had made them look so corpse like (Hawthorne 3). This is significant because
an outsider is telling us there is a change. He has no bias in this situation, yet he notices a
physical change after they drank the elixir. This proves that this could not be a placebo effect, and
that the elixir is real. Another piece of vital evidence to support that the elixir is real, is that the
four test subjects plan to find the Fountain of Youth . They resolved forthwith to make a pilgrimage
to Florida, and quaff at morning, noon, and night, from the Fountain of Youth (Hawthorne 5). This
shows that the four test subjects want to feel young all the time. If the elixir was not real, they
would not be so desperate to find the source. The change that they felt was so invigorating, that
they want it all the time. This shows the true power of the elixir, further proving that it is real, and it

The Odyssey, By Homer, And The Inferno
Ulysses in Hell The two epics The Odyssey, by Homer, and The Inferno, by Dante, both works
have two different perspectives of the character Ulysses. The Odyssey is told from the ancient
Greek perspective around 700BC, and The Inferno is told from a Christian point of view in
1300AD. Both epics are written nearly 2000 years apart from each other. What set apart the
ideals of both epics are the Pagan warrior perspective in Homer s epic and the Christian Europe
perspective in Dante s epic. The controversial topic is what makes Ulysses a hero in The Odyssey
and what makes him one of the world s greatest sinners in The Inferno? In The Odyssey, Odysseus
or Ulysses, is considered a hero. Odysseus portrays all the qualities of a hero in this epic. He
portrays courage, wisdom, and endurance throughout the work, which makes up the qualities of
a Pagan warrior s idea of a hero. Zeus says Great Odysseus who excels all men in wisdom, excels
in offerings too he gives the immortal gods who rule the vaulting skies? (Ody. 1.78 80). When
speaking about Odysseus, he describes him as wise. Odysseus uses wisdom in the various
obstacles he crosses on his journey home. Wisdom is all about knowing who you truly are and
where you are going. This means denying temptation and not forgetting where you are going. On
his journey home, he must turn down, possibly one of the greatest temptations, which is
immortality. In hopes of keeping Odysseus with her, and not leaving to return home she says

Advantages Of CNC Machining
I.INTRODUCTION
C
NC Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to
control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and
grinders. The CNC in CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control. On the surface, it
may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer s unique software and control
console are what really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining. Under CNC Machining,
machine tools function through numerical control. A computer program is customized for an object
and the machines are programmed with CNC machining language (called G code) that essentially
controls all features like feed rate, coordination, location ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The program is loaded and finally an operator runs a test of the program to ensure there are no
problems. This trial run is referred to as cutting air and it is an important step because any
mistake with speed and tool position could result in a scraped part or a damaged machine. There
are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual
machining, and can be repeated in exactly the same manner over and over again. Because of the
precision possible with CNC Machining, this process can produce complex shapes that would be
almost impossible to achieve with manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production
of many complex three dimensional shapes. It is because of these qualities that CNC Machining
is used in jobs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks. Other than that, there has
some problem that always occur in CNC machine such as electrical fault, parameter issues, door
and safety interlocks and others. If you are considering a career in CNC Machining, it would be
useful to have a background in mathematics, industrial arts and mechanical drafting, as well as
computer usage. There are many common problem of CNC Machining such as the material burns
on outside edge, the material burns on outside edge, the material burns on internal corners of
mould, the tool is burnt, burnt edges of holes, raised mark along edge of moulding, rough edge,
cutter marks visible, component moves sideways and component not the correct

Everything s An Argument Ethos Pathos Logos
When writing persuasively or argumentatively, there are three ways to increase how receptive the
audience will be towards your argument. Pathos being the first technique, which appeals to
emotion. Powerful imagery or pictures alone can invoke emotion about the argument. Emotion in
an argument can be a powerful tool or a crutch depending on the individuals who are reading the
same argument. Ethosis the credibility or character someone has portrayed in an argument. The third
chapter in Everything s an Argument gives a pretty good example with CNN and Fox news outlets,
CNN being the liberals and Fox being the conservatives. Along with credibility and character, ethos
can involve trustworthiness with readers or even acknowledging them in the... Show more content

the text. The argument that a woman deserves the right to abortion on the grounds that its her

seen in the text to the right of the woman and baby in the womb, stating that the heart beats on the

Lead Sinker Lab Report
This lab s problem asked how the heat capacity of a lead sinker can be determined (Bridges 192).
The hypothesis stated for the first experiment that if the lead sinker is heated in boiling water,
placed in a calorimeter, and tracked consistently for the temperature, then the heat capacity of the
lead sinker can be calculated because with the mass of the lead sinker, the original volume and
mass of the water, and before and after temperaturechecks of the water, the data collected can be
used with available formulas for heatcapacity to find the heat capacity of the lead. This statement
was not supported by the data for the first experiment because the margins of error were too great
to affirm the hypothesis. Likewise, though there wasn t a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Cheeto Puff was used as the food sample in the second experiment. The heat capacity of the
sinker was determined by dividing the heat absorbed by the water by the sinker s temperature
change and the two values for each trial were determined to be 7.82 J/०C and 9.88 J/०C, with an
average actual specific heat capacity of 0.136 J/g०C, a 16.9% difference from the theoretical heat
capacity of lead of 0.159 J/g०C. The percent difference was too vast to support the hypothesis,
which required that heat capacity be calculated accurately with little error. For this first experiment,
performance errors that contributed to the inconsistent results were the touching of the the
thermometer to the calorimeter and continuous, unnecessary movement of the thermometer,
producing inaccurate measurements of the water temperature. Likewise, the lead sinker was left out
in the open for too long while transitioning between the hot water bath and the calorimeter, causing
heat and energy loss. In the second part of this lab, which set out to determine the caloric
capacity of the Cheeto Puff, the average calories per gram found from the two trials were 0.330
Cal/g, in comparison to the 5.71 Cal/g that was determined from the nutrition facts off the bag.

old boy with an autism spectrum disorder, Asperger Syndrome. Regardless of having this disability
and the characteristics that come along with it, Christopher shows many times throughout the story
that it doesn t stop him from growing and succeeding in life. Christopher gains his independence
and show signs of growth and achievement, proving that having a disability doesn t stop him from
accomplishing his goals and desires. As everyone knows who has read the book, Christopher has
weaknesses, including talking to strangers, being in unfamiliar places, being told a large of

His strong subjects are mathematics and physics, which is why he wants to become a scientist.
Christopher is very eager to take his A level math test and hopefully achieve an A grade, which
he does, so he can get into a university. He is very determined to live on his own when he gets to
college. He doesn t want to have to rely on anyone to take care of him. Christopher also
expresses this want when he talks about the dream he has sometimes, where everyone in the
world is gone, except for the special kids like himself. He is also very logical. He loves solving
math problems and puzzles that are challenging and he is good at them. He likes everything in
black and white and prefers them to be plain and simple. If he can t make a choice about
something, he likes to draw diagrams, which helps him narrow down his choices. Christopher
also begins to become rebellious towards his father when he finds out it was his father who
killed Wellington. He begins lying to his dad and disobeying him, which he has never done
before. He is really pushed over the edge when he finds all of the letters his mother has written
him over the years that his father has been hiding from him and realizes that his mother never
really died and his father, yet again, lied to him. This is what leads Christopher on his journey to

Hmm, gloomy as usual. Sneered Olivia. Olivia and her friends arrived to school, called Jennifer

The cameras were top notch, so the girls couldn t take their stupid jackets off. The girls wondered
what school would be like in some other place, where it wasn t so hot and unfair. The principal
walked by and all of the girls ran off. Olivia and all of her friends feared that horrible lady.
Not surprised. Ms. Principal is feared, and it s gloomy as usual. As long as things aren t fair, itЕ›

The only problem was: it was still 9 am. School ends at 3:30. The day went by as slow as a snail.
Every day was so miserable because it was all girls. At recess, Olivia, Sophia, Claire, and Elora
watched the boys school. They had equipment and sports, something they didn t have. They
always watched, and thought, watched, and thought, until the bell rang. The rest of the day Olivia
wondered, Boys are so lucky... They have everything... Why are we so neglected? What did we
ever do? Everything was so confusing to a second grade girl in an unfair world.
Olivia and her friends talked to Mrs. Lark, We don t deserve this, it s like we are forgotten,
broken off from everything. Mrs. Lark sat for a minute, and thought about what to say, Well, I
don t know why women are treated differently, but I can tell you to do what is right. Don t let
anyone stop you from getting what you need to succeed. Now run along home, I need to do some
things. Do me one favor, though, never forget my words. They will come in handy one day. So,
Olivia promised to never forget and they all went home.
The next two years went by, but Olivia never forgot Mrs. Lark s words. Olivia knew what she had

Nothing Affects Student Achievement More Than An Effective...
Nothing affects student achievement more than an effective classroom teacher. So, school
administrators must be diligent in their search for qualified teachers, and more importantly, utilize a
selection interview process that identifies the most qualified candidate or whether or not the
candidate truly wants the job. When hiring teachers, the goal is to find the most effective and
highly qualified candidates and to do this certain qualities and traits must be prevalent. As M. Mark
Wasicsko stated, Most teachers who do not succeed fail because they do not have the right
dispositions (2004). According to Dictionary.com, disposition is the predominant or prevailing
tendency of one s spirits; natural mental and emotional outlook or mood; characteristic attitude
(2016). With this focus, certain characteristics about Ms. Morrison s disposition can be identified in
this case study.
As the candidate for a middle school physical education position, Ms. Morrison has some areas of
strength that could be beneficial and assist her in the teaching position. First, she worked her
way up from a sales clerk to store manager and never took leave from work for longer than 2
days, which demonstrates hard work and dedication in her job. Ms. Morrison also had a great deal
of experience hiring and working with the personnel at her clothing. She even took the time to work
with employees who were not performing well at their job because she knew their performance

The Effects Of Children With Learning Disabilities On...
Life in a family that has a child with a learning disability is often both complex and challenging.
There are generally many practical as well as emotional issues involved. Many things have to be
considered such as educational, medical, and financial decisions. There are many issues that may
arise from having a child with a learning disabilitysuch as familystress, parenting discrepancies,
negative reactions from extended familymembers, difficulty in interacting with the school, and
mixed effects upon siblings (Dyson, 2010). In this essay I will discuss the main points of Dyson s
article, Unanticipated effects of children with learning disabilities on their families, things I learned

The article describes the results of these other studies as being inconsistent. This is because the
other studies state that there are higher levels of stress in families with children having disabilities
than those that do not. A study conducted by Dyson found that despite higher degrees of stress,
families of children with developmental disabilities experienced the same level of family
cohesion, maintenance of the family system, and emphasis on personal growth as families of
nondisabled children (Dyson, 2010). These studies regarding how disabilities affect the family
have conflicting results therefore Dyson wanted to know if similar results would be found in a
study conducted with families that have learning disabled children. The study that was conducted
tested the hypotheses that having a child that is learning disabled will have a negative effect on
family life and on siblings in particular. The study was conducted through the use of focus groups
which conducted in depth group interviews and consisted of ten families represented by eleven
parents. The results of the study concluded that parents suffered guilt, family stress, as well as
martial tension. There were also parents blaming each other as well as issues in regards to
parenting styles. In regards to extended family support many parents felt that other

What I found most interesting about the article was how different the Montsechia vidalii is from

aspects of the plant have evolved overtime. For example, the plants had genders, and did not have

somewhat large, such as the removal of, they are tiny in comparison to other evolutionary changes,
which could have taken even longer. Questions:
How much does the Montsechia vidalii resembler, the coontail, resemble the original flower?
How were the scientists able to confirm that the plant had different genders?
How were the seeds of the flower spread from lake to lake? Was it the work of a

The Common Profile Of A Homeless Family
It is estimated that 3.5 million people will experience homelessness during a given year. The
fastest growing population experiencing homelessness is families, mostly made up of single
mothers and her children. Families headed by women comprise more than half of the homeless
population and 42% of this population is under the age of 5. Across the country about 2.5 million
children are homeless, which is equivalent to 1 in every 30 children. The legal definition of
homeless refers to those who spend 7 consecutive nights in a car, abandoned building, public park,
emergency shelter, nonresidential building, or other unconventional residence.
The common profile of a homeless family is headed by a single mother, in her 20 s with an
average of two children, of which one or both are under the age of six. Homeless mothers tend to
be poorly educated, unemployed, and lacking the skills necessary to become employed. There is an
equal representation of Caucasian (47%) and African American (47%) homeless mothers. These
women commonly described their lives as ... a remarkably constant stream of distressing and spirit
breaking encounters, beginning in early childhood ... including experiencing physical and/or sexual
abuse, constant crisis, stress from persistent poverty, violence in the family and community, and
isolation. Most of these women grew up homeless and spent their childhood in foster care making
them distrustful of the system.

The Catholic Church In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The Catholic Church was a dominant and powerful foundation represented throughout The
Canterbury Tales and through the Medieval Era. The majority of religious figures in the story
portrayed characteristics of unscrupulousness and deceitfulness which emerged from the corruption
of the church. The exception is the Parson; who is an accurate symbol of what the Clergyshould be,
unlike the Friar who neglects to pursue his missionary. For instance both men act in contrast of
each other and illustrate both the admirable and the sinful appearance of the clergy. Throughout
the tales these two men and their polarity are presented on accounts of their obligations of the
clergy, charitable nature, and their lifestyles. Above all, the Parson is seen as an eminent
exemplification which is described by Chaucer as a holy minded man of good renown (line
475), the only faithful clergy in the tales. The Parson lives a life where he preaches to his
worshippers so that they can follow saying, With houses far asunder he neglected not in rain or
thunder, in sickness or in grief, to pay a call (Lines 501 503). This quote describes the Parson as
a devout loyalist who perseveres through adversity, no matter the weather or his physical
conditions. Every day he sets out to educate and create an honorable example and advocate for
Christ s gospel to those all around the town. The Friar on the other hand is a selfish man not fitting
with dignity of his position (lines 247 248). Instead of

Apple s success really began with the Apple II (Rawlinson). The Apple II was a true innovation

Governing internal audit
Amidst all the debate over corporate governance and the board s supervision of internal control
mechanisms, surprisingly little attention has been given to the role of internal audit, and
particularly to whom it is ultimately responsible. While several high level reviews by regulators
and others have acknowledged that the internal audit function and the oversight of internal controls
has become an important responsibility of boards, the implications of this for internal audit have
not always been followed through. Thus in the US, the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 makes no
mention of internal audit, or of any equivalent role other than the board s role generally in the
preparation of the accounts and the setting of accounting standards.

The Farnese Atlas Analysis

exactly is it? Intelligence has many different meanings due to different investigators having
numerous definitions of it. For example, in a 1921 conference, American psychologists Lewis M.

These dispute first initiated in 1865 with an English scientist, Francis Galton who began studying
the correlation on hereditary and success (Behavioral Neuroscience Web Ring Macalester
College). Convinced, based on his evidence, that success and other abilities were mostly based on
hereditary factors, he deduced that intelligence must be bred and not trained (Wilderdom, 2005).
He then opposed those who believed in the environmental effects on intelligence (Behavioral
Neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College). For centuries, this debate had no clear conclusion
but many theories and hypothesis. Although both the nature and nurture side has find great
amount of evidence, it is still undecided which side has more effects in one s intelligence. First,
the theory about how genes can affect your intelligence can be tested thanks to the birth of
monozygotic or identical twins born from the same cell (Behavioral neuroscience Web Ring

then becomes an interesting area of research because they could compare monozygotic twins who

Lucid Dreaming Essays
Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming is: dreaming while aware that you are dreaming. Webster s definition of lucidity
continues with clearness of thought or style and a presumed capacity to perceive the truth directly
and instantaneously . In this sense, lucid dreaming is associated with controlling one s dreams as
they are happening. It is a term that was coined by Frederik van Eeden in the Proceedings of the
Society for Psychical Research, Vol. 26, 1913:
I can only say that I made my observations during normal deep and healthy sleep, and that in 352
cases, I had full recollection of my day life and could act voluntarily, though I was so fast asleep

What is the cause of these different levels of rationality among dreaming? The current thought is
indicating that that there is a lack of understanding about what is and what is not appropriate to
the time and place of the dreamworld (Levitan, A Fool s Guide to Lucid Dreaming , 1994). This
theory postulates that while absurdity is inherent in dreams, lack of practice in dream manipulation
can cause the dreamer to confront ideas that may cause the dreamer to lose control of lucidity. This
lack of understanding may cause the dreamer to misinterpret the dream and to have moments of
self doubt. There are three main situations that tend to initiate loss of control and rationality in a
dream: Being afraid of physical harm; Being afraid of social consequences; Thinking that another
dream character is really there. All of these pitfalls can inhibit a dreamer from achieving a higher
state of lucidity in his dreams.
Why Would You Want to Have Lucid Dreams?
There are many reasons that people will want to have lucid dreams. The first desire for a lucid
dream comes from the pleasure and excitement of being able to control one s dreams and achieve
actions that are not possible. The most common of these dreams is the ability to fly, the

Losing his entire summer savings, Duddy realizes the truth about Linda and says to her, I
thought you went out with me because you liked me. Boy, was I ever a sucker. (94) While
working in Uncle Benjy s dress factory, ThГ©rГЁse encourages Duddy to follow AdГЁle into
the washroom, thus getting the young girl into trouble. This sets in motion the part of Duddy s
apprenticeship that deals with women. Mr. Friar is right when he says Duddy is callow...he hasn

many of Duddy s peers. She suffers verbal abuse from Duddy such as you little fool (98) and

How Does Rob Hall Show Courage In Into Thin Air
I m not going to get killed, I answered. Don t be melodramatic. (Hall, pg. 88) The famous last
words is a clear indication of the doomed future of Rob Hall, but it also shows how courageous he
was throughout the whole expedition. In Into Thin Air , by Jon Krakauer, Rob Hall demonstrates
time and time again his courage by showing nothing but confidence in getting his clients to the
summit, by waiting for Doug Hansen at the summit, and by how long he actually stayed up on the
mountain. First, Rob Hall shows courage by being confident in his ability to get his clients up the
mountain. With so many incompetent people on the mountain, Rob said with a frown one evening
in late April, I think it s pretty unlikely that we ll get through this season without something bad
happening up high. This might have convinced the climbers that they were safe as long as they
were guided by Rob Hall. When he showed that confidence, it assures the climbers that they are in
the best hands possible. His stunning record of getting people to summit was probably directly
related to the way he thought of his climbingskills. And that s what people want in a climbing guide
for Mount Everest, and what people don t want is a non confident guide to have their fate in their
hands.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knew that he was putting himself at risk by waiting. This also shows how selfless and how
responsible he was for his clients. I know I sound like a bastard for telling Rob to abandon his
client, confessed Cotter, but by then it was obvious that leaving Doug was his only choice. Hall,
however, wouldn t consider going down without Hansen. (Krakauer, pg. 241) This quote shows
that he wouldn t leave anyone on his team behind. It displays his underlying obligation of being a
guide and most people in his shoes would probably leave the client

Narrative Essay On The Big Dipper
The Big Dipper!!!
By Raagni
I was sooooooooooo excited. I got down from my silver Subaru with my grey jacket lagging in my
hand. I called over to my mom ,who was packing our bags for the day in the back of our car,
Do I need to get something?!
She replied with a nod since we could barely hear ourselves over all the noise from the car engines
parking. I walked over to her and looked at a jumble of things. Our cooler with food on one side
and our jackets, gloves and hats one side.
I asked my mom What should I do?
She told me to get my jacket and two water bottles from the side of my door.
Once we finally packed our bags,we walked over to Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Whoa! I thought in my head. There were so many rides! Like the Typhoon when people got
flipped upside down! I was staring at that ride with my jaw dropping until my dad got our blue
wrist bands. The ride looked like shark tails. Then there was another ride called Double Shot that
took your slowly 125 feet above ground then......DROPPED YOU IN A FRACTION OF
SECONDS!!!
There was a big red ride that stood out to me. There was a sign on it with fancy letters The Dipper!
I stared walking to it like I was in some kind of trance when my dad grabbed my shoulder so gently
making me feel like I was an iceberg that would crack if it was touched. We spent about 2 hours at
other rides until I pleaded my dad for about 10 minutes.
PLEASE!?!?!?!?
Ok fine he replied
We were in the line for The Dipper! It had loops and tons

Anti Discrimination In Australia
Australian Anti discrimination law has a relatively short history dating back to the mid 1970s,
which is 70 years later than the Commonwealth of Australian Constitution Act 1900. Although not
being officially identified, the first Australian anti discrimination legislation was enacted in the
1960s, following the dismantlement of the White Australian policy. This first unofficial anti
discriminationlegislation prohibited discrimination on the ground of racein certain aspects of
employment. Shortly after, the Whitlam Labor Government passed the first official anti
discrimination legislation in 1975, which was the Racial Discrimination Act 1975(Cth) at the
Federal level. (Chris Ronalds, 2012) Due to the fact that all states and territories... Show more

Examples Of Dark Elements In The Castle Of Otranto
What is the meaning of the notion Gothic? This word is generally used in relation to dark
elements. In the Word Histories and Mysteries From Abracatadabra to Zeus is stated clearly that:
...Gothic is related to the name Goth used for one of those invading Germanic tribes. The word
Gothic, first recorded in 1611 in a reference of the language of the Goths, was extended in sense
in several ways, meaning Germanic , medieval, not classical , barbarous and also an
architectural style that was not Greek or Roman. Horace Walpole applied the word Gothic to his
novel The Castle of Otranto, a Gothic Story (1765) in the sense medieval, not classical . From
this novel filled with scenes of terror and gloom in a medieval setting descended a literary genre
still popular today; from its subtitle descended the name for it ( 115).
The Gothic evokes feelings of mystery, leading simultaneously to the dramatic as well as the
sensational, such as incest.
Furthermore, the sublime is considered the most prominent characteristic of the Gothic. There are
certain general features applied to create the necessary atmosphere, and by which a narration might
be identified as a Gothic story (Hume 282). What is actually the sublime and how it is related to
the gothic fiction? A main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

atmosphere is frequently transmitted through castles or mansions and through raging storms, dark

Hydrogen as an Option for Fuel
With gas prices escalating and fossil fuels becoming limited, scientists have been researching an
alternative fuel source that will be more abundant and cost efficient. Issues with our current fuel
source include the pollution that is emitted in our air and water sources and the fact that fossil
fuels are becoming scarce. One alternative to gasoline is the use of hydrogen as a fuel source.
With hydrogen as a fuel source pollution will be in decline, it has become increasingly more
abundant than fossil fuels through extracting hydrogen from various sources, and is domestically
produced. There are many pros to using hydrogen as an alternative fuel source; namely, its
abundance, its low pollution, and the fact that it is being researched and extracted domestically.
Hydrogen is one of the most abundant elements on earth and can be found in water,
hydrocarbons and other organic matter. Because of hydrogen being so abundant scientists are
able to extract it from a variety of sources, therefore, the problem with hydrogen as a fuel source
is how to exactly make hydrogen an efficient fuel source. Currently hydrogen is extracted from
natural gas, but this releases the greenhouse gas CO2 and uses up a limited resource. This does not
relieve our current issues with using up fossil fuels, just displaces them. Recent research has
suggested a means of how to resolve both of these problems. Zhang, a research scientist from
Virginia Tech, and his team have altered an enzyme that can

Eisenhower s Last Speech Summary
Eisenhower s last speech was based on telling America the risks of moving forward with the
military industrial complex. The military industrial complex is an agreement which allows private
companies to produce and sell weapons to the U.S. government. Eisenhower talks about how he was
worried about spending too much money on the weapons from private companies since he came
into office. Eisenhower is weary about the sudden increase of the military industry and thinks that it
could help America but at the same time could harm them. He thinks it could be dangerous to
quickly become reliable on the new technology and advancements in war industry and spend too
much money on these items. In the end, Eisenhower wishes well to the authorities coming

Evaluation Proposal For The Operation Peacemaker...
The purpose of this memo is to provide an overview of the Operation Peacemaker Fellowship
Program founded by the Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) in Richmond, California. The
evaluation proposal will describe the program and expand on the needs of such program in this
community. It will also discuss the consequences of the proposed evaluation on stakeholders who
have a vested interest in seeing this program, or programs like it, succeed.
Problem Statement
Before the creation of the Office of Neighborhood Safety in 2007, Richmond, California was
considered America s 9th most dangerous city with 47 homicides in 2007, in a population of
slightly more than 100,000 (Murphy, 2014). The majority of these homicides involved the use of
firearms. Recognizing the need to focus on reducing, specifically, gun related deaths, ONS was
established to build partnerships and strategies that produce sustained reductions in firearm assaults
and related retaliations (Office of Neighborhood Safety, 2016).
In 2010, through a partnership with Richmond law enforcement, it was estimated that there were 17
people responsible for 70 percent of the firearm activity in the city (Gonzalez, 2016). With this
information, the department set out to address the problem of how to engage with the few people
that seemed to be causing the greatest amount of violence in the region, resulting in the creation of
the Operation Peacemaker Fellowship.

Renaissance Festival And Its Effect On American Culture
Life must have been irrational back in early Europe. Slap happy, drunken, and crazed people were
all there was back then. The only rational people were the King and Queen, and any other royalty.
A lot of stuff has changed since the medieval times in Europe, and the experience was extraordinary.
At some point timeI had learned about the medieval times and what the time period was like, but
never really had the experience. What exactly is the RenaissanceFestival? I found this to be a
recurring thought on the opening day as my family and I arrived at the Festival. The Renaissance

What Is The Poem Analysis Poem
The author Paul Laurence Dunbar wants the readers to acknowledge how he uses concrete and
abstract in his poem called Life . Throughout his poem he uses concrete to make us feel how
sadness takes over happiness most of the time, the other strategy the author uses is abstract he
uses it in a deep matter he makes you think something that isn t normal that you can t visualize,
he uses it a lot but also combines it with concrete as well. This connects with something about
my personal point of view so far because I also feel that I can t enjoy life as much as I would
want but there s always another bad side and it s the problems that make you fall in depression and
other stuff that has to do with sadness. In the poem Life the writer expresses... Show more content

He demonstrated us his point of view by using abstract when he said A minute to smile an hour to
weep in it is important to know that he uses abstract and concrete as well. He used abstract when
he said A minute and an hour these nouns are things you can t feel or sense. It tells you how a smile
only lasts a minute compare when you re sad you start crying he used the verb weep for crying and
notice how he said an hour which the noun hour it s another word you can t sense you can only
imagine it. He also used concrete by using smile and weep those are things you can even do
besides feeling it with your 5 senses. Another great example he used for abstract is when he said
A crust of bread and a corner to sleep in this demonstrates how even poverty is part of being sad
most of the time. A crust of bread meaning very little food this is abstract because you can see a
crust of bread something that you can see but not sense as well and when he also said a corner
to sleep in this is really what you can see someone sleeping in a corner not necessary a corner but
somewhere that is not comfortable at all. The author also includes And joy seems sweater when
cares comes after in my point of view I think this is abstract because how he used sweater and
cares those are words you can t feel only imagine it I also think it s abstract because it s
demonstrating you how in people only comes around when you are hurt or in pain and when they
look out for you, you feel like they care about you but in reality they don t really care but you can

Herbert Hoover And The Great Depression
In the 1920s, Americans were trying to figure out what was everyone s role in society. During this
time women started to take on bigger jobs then housekeeping and African Americans are finally
standing up for their race. Once 1929 hit, Herbert Hoover, America s newest president, was viewed
as an American Superhero at that time because of everything he promised society; however,
America gets hit by the Great Depressionleaving society in a hole. While banking systems were
unstable and overproduction were leaving people bankrupt, Herbert Hoover was blaming Europe
and was failing to keep society financially stable. As his presidency went on, filmmakers made
film cycles and gangster pictures like Little Caesar that portrayed America s corrupt society during
the Great Depression. By the end of his campaign, Hoover was known as the worst American ever
which led to the rising of Franklin D. Rooseveltin 1933. Roosevelt saw the struggling society as an
opportunity to help his campaign in which he created the New Deal. America was given an
opportunity that allowed them to look forward to the future. During Herbert Hoover s presidency,
America did not support the federal government, but after Franklin D. Roosevelt ran for president
and promised a New Deal, they began to look more favorably on the government. Herbert Hoover
was known as the great humanitarian who can solve any problem he faced. Later on, it turns out to
be false which ends up hurting not only America but the people

Money Laundering Is Used By Drug Dealers, Terrorists And...
Originally developed in the 1970 s, money laundering is a technique used to disguise the proceeds
of crime, and reintegrate them into apparently legitimate assets (Levi and Reuter 2006). Money
laundering is commonly used by drug dealers, terrorists and other corrupt organizations (Seymour
2008). Drug trafficking, smuggling and embezzlement are examples of criminal activities that
generate large amounts of illicit funds for criminal groups; the desire to legitimize these funds and
minimize detection stimulate the demand for money laundering schemes (Buchanan 2004).
Organizations try to make the money appear legal and legitimate in order to minimize the
possibility of being apprehended by authorities. Money laundering takes away the integrity of
licensed financial systems and associations and ultimately provides organized crime the money it
requires to perform additional criminal activities (Seymour 2008). There are 3 phases of money
laundering; Placement, Layering and Integration. Placement is fulfilled by transforming the sum of
cash obtained from criminal activities into a more movable and less dubious form. After this,
inserting these earnings into the mainstream economic system makes the money appear legitimate.
The purpose of this is to withdraw the illegal profits and isolate it from their illegal origins.
However, the laundering mechanism is most susceptible during placement because illicit pursuit
provokes large sums of cash, which is hefty and tough to obscure in

A Raisin in the Sun was written by Lorraine Hansberry. Lorraine was born in Chicago, Illinois
where both of her parents were active in the black community. When young, she had big time
social injustice names like Jesse Owens and Duke Ellington come to her house. Her parents
contributed large sums of money to the NAACP and the Urban League. Lorraine and her family
moved to a white neighborhood in Chicago and was attacked by the neighbors. Although they were
attacked, the Hansberry family stayed until the court ordered them to leave. This case made it to
the Supreme Court as Hansberry vs Lee, ruling restrictive covenants illegal. Lorraine attended the
University of Wisconsin in Madison. She broke the family tradition of going to a black college....

First time the majority of the cast was African American. The thing that makes this piece so
special is the decade in which she wrote and this play. In the 1950s, it was portrayed as a good
time for economy and blacks where content with their inferior status. This play was a
revolutionary work for this time in the 1950s. Most plays didn t depict what an actual black
family goes through on American Stage. African American roles before this play would be
small, comedic roles and ethnic stereotypes. Hansberry shows a black family in the light of
reality where it was comedic, it was real life struggles. There were issues throughout the play
brought up such as poverty, discrimination, and the constitution of African American racial
identity. This play shows the real life tensions between the black and white societies. Not only is
Hansberry talking about blacks in American but she has issues of Africans anticolonial struggles
as well. Another risky topic Hansberry shared in the play was feminism. The character Beneatha
showed that women could have ambitious dreams and goals as well. Women didn t have to
depend on marriage and just become a housewife, they could work hard for themselves. Even the
topic of abortion was addressed even though it was illegal in this error. Hansberry main point of
the play was to focus on dreams. Every main character in the play had their own dream.
Materialistic dreams created problems in the family and happiness. Hansberry focus was to do
what s best for your family and continue to lift each other

Tim Winton does this many times throughout his stories some good examples in small mercies is
when Tim Winton writes about the Keenan s as the salt of the earth meaning they are simple
and good people, the term originated from Jesus Christ when he spoke to his followers saying ye
are the salt of the earth , another use of a simile in Tim Winton small mercies is when he
describes the Keenan house smelling like old people this is a simile because Tim Winton was
comparing the odour of there house to old people. Tim Winton also says that the Keenan s wood
stove oven is the Rolls Royce of the ranges this is a simile because he compares there oven to a
high end car. In damaged goods Tim uses simile throughout the book one example of this is
when he is talking about when strawberry Alison came to town and how she was a beauty but
she was damaged goods because of her large birthmark across her face, this is another good
example as Tim talks about her looks as damaged goods this term comes from someone who is

Catechism In The Chick Tract
This Chick Tract also touches on the idea of an all loving God which goes hand in hand with the
idea of God giving His only begotten Son so that everyone else will be allowed eternal life (John
3:16 ). The fundamentalists try to state in this Chick Tract that God does not love Roman Catholics
because God views them as a false religion. The fundamentalists believe that the Catholic Churchis
just trying to persuade people to join their faith and that it actually goes against the word of God.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Faith, Catholics believe in an all loving God due to
the fact that He always provides for His people, forgives sins, and most importantly offers His
followers an eternity of everlasting love with Him in heaven if they choose to do so (Cline,
Austin, Is God Omnibenevolent). God has proven that He loves all of His followers and
children not only through the giving of His Son, but also throughout other parts of the Bible.
Deuteronomy 7:9 shows a great example of this love Remember that the Lord your God is the
only God and that he is faithful. He will keep his covenant and show his constant love to a
thousand generations of those who love him and obey his commands . God is telling his
followers that if they remain faithful to Him, He will in return remain faithful to them, and will
always guide them and keep them safe. This God does not seem to be a God of hate who could
merely banish someone to spend the rest of eternity burning in hell for not

The Warren s Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education ruled that segregation in public schools as unconstitutional. It s rulings on Mapp v. Ohio ended up resulting in the exclusionary rule. The rule made any evidence obtained illegally as inadmissible in court. In Reynold s v. Sims required that legislative districts across states be made as equal as possible in population. Miranda v. Arizona resulted that your rights be read to you upon arrest or questioning. Each of these court cases helped to enforce and enhance the rights of many Americans. The case known as Brown v. Board of Educationwas actually the name that was given to five separate cases that were heard by the U.S. Supreme Court (History Brown v. Board of Education Re enactment). The cases were all combined because each case sought out desegregation as the remedy for grossly inadequate conditions in segregated black schools (Brown v. Board of Education). When meeting to decide the case, the Justices were divided over the issues that were raised. They were unable to come to a conclusion by June 1953 the end of the Courts 1952 1953 term. The Justices decided to rehear the case again in December. During that time, Chief Justice Fred Vinson died and was replaced by Earl Warren. • 3. Tobacco s Harmful Effects, Health and Economic Essay Tobacco kills five million people yearly, which is much more then HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, and Malaria combined, according to International Union Against Cancer. This addicting drug can in fact end up giving the user a death sentence. As the body grows older, the DNA atoms can be mutated by this seemingly harmless plant. This mutation of cells can eventually spread and the user will end up with a body full of cancer. These cancer sticks or cigarettes are not only harmful to your body but also hard on your wallet. The eradication of the use of tobaccowould deplete the health risks associated with tobacco, and would put needed money back into the people s wallets. The depletion of health risks would hinder second hand smoke and cancer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These health risks all add up to a higher death rate. American Cancer Society and World Lung Foundation reported that tobacco use causes six million deaths a year, a third of those deaths are from cancer. According to VaHealth.org, smoking causes approximately four hundred thousand deaths per year. Health warnings along with the impact on American wallets are the main two basic reasons for eradicating tobacco use. These health warnings are not the only reason for eradicating tobacco use, the other reason is the impact on the people s wallet. The extermination of tobacco would not only put needed money into pockets, but it would drop the cost down to bare minimum to account for the deflation. The tobacco industry tells the public that it employs close to two hundred thousand employees, but according to Corp Watch, the manufacturing and farming employees have plummeted due to mechanization, and increased the amount of imported tobacco from foreign countries. In the U.S. right now the unemployment rate has increased to ten percent of the total population in the United States, according to MSN money. According to Center for Disease Control, the total amount of public and private health expenditures caused by the use of tobacco is 96 billion dollars a year. • 4. The Church Is Holy Through Complete Devotion And Love For God The church is holy through complete devotion and love for God. Because the church is holy, the church has the duty to love and take care of all people. Holiness is a dedication to God. This dedication is formed individually by the people of God, who are the church. However, not every person of God is one hundred percent holy. Only Jesus Christ had complete dedication to God, but the church strives for this dedication. Throughout time, there has been role models of holiness within the church known as saints. Throughout the church s history, there has been many saints that lived their life in complete devotion to God. For example, Joan of Arc was known as a Fool for God. As a teenager, she trusted the Lord and followed her call to lead a French army to victory. She went against all odds but continued to put her faith in the Lord. Even when she was captured and burned at the stake, the saintnever lost her faith. James Martin writes in his book, My Life with the Saints, Joan was devoted to Jesus Christ, to prayer, to the sacraments, to the church, and to its saints. She believed in God even when God asked her to accomplish the seemingly impossible, (My life with the Saints, 25). Pedro Arrupe, another saint studied within the book stated the following about devotion to God, He or she is a person who hast the conviction that Gods knows, can do, and will do what is best for mankind, (My Life with the Saints, 91). Throughout life, the people of God face many setbacks, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Tuck Northrop Leadership Tuck Northrop should receive the Beard Award because I truly cannot think of a person who is as caring and kind as he is and also excels in so many areas. I m a junior at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, and though Tuck is not one of my academic teachers, he coaches me in both the fall and spring on our high schoolsailing team. Though I was only a freshman and had not experienced the team pre Tuck, everything I had heard of the past years was only negative. But from the second Tuck arrived as our coach, the team has been on a continuous incline to some of the best years that the Fairfield Sailing Team has experienced in its existence. We do have a few good sailors on the team from their own past experience, but I definitely credit Tuck s coaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is not a single coach out there who cares about his sailors more than Tuck. I have been on many teams in the past, and not one coach dedicates as much time or care into the team as Tuck does. In the three years that he has been our coach so far, we have greatly increased our team building activities off the water, which has ultimately made the team stronger than ever in its overall chemistry, disregarding just our skills and knowledge of the sport. Tuck also knows each of the team members very well individually, which allows him to pick the best team pairings and also teach us based on our individual personalities, goals, and weaknesses. He wants each one of us to succeed more than anyone I know, and is willing to do everything he possibly can in order to help us on our own personal paths to success in sailing, academics, or more. I have no doubt that Tuck knows each of his students just as well in the classroom as he does on our team, allowing him to interact with both his students and us much more easily than other teachers. His ability to unite all of the team members enables our success overall to have reached our current achievements and hopefully even more in the future. While these two highlights of Tuck s personality and ideals demonstrate very well the type of person he is, he has so many more great qualities including his generosity, ambition, and fun loving nature. • 8. Christian Beliefs Of The Trinity A cornerstone teaching of many Christian beliefs is that of the Trinity. It is also a debated and misunderstood concept. Besides being just outright refuted, there are a couple of ways in which the Trinity is misunderstood. These misunderstandings can relate to other religions which a person may be more familiar with, or might believe. Godas the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is a difficult concept to embrace fully but is not much unlike the concept of understanding an omniscient and omnipotent being that exists before during and after time. There are several explanations that help our human brains comprehend the concept and differentiate the Trinityfrom other religions. Two common religions view the Trinity as three gods such as Paganism or is one God that reveals himself in three different forms or persons such as Monism. An individual with a Pagan view might see the Trinity as three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as separate and different but related gods with the same purpose. This would be a similar view similar a few that of the Greeks with their many different God of the Pantheon. A person looking at the Trinity with a background in something like Hinduism, might see the mentioning of the Trinity and related back to their beliefs or knowledge. Hindu might see the Father as one God while the Son is a manifestation of the father but not a true God. The same could be seen for the Holy Spirit. By explaining the Trinity, it is seen of these views are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The window was open, letting in any random bug that happened to pass by, since it had no screen. Margery s doing, probably. She was Queen of the Hot Flashes. Stopping in front of her apartment, I was annoyed to see ketchup smeared under the brass numeral two. Margery was such a slob when she d been drinking. She d pick up fast food, but be so bombed that half the time she couldn t find her mouth. Burger wrappers, nibs of French fries, and oozing condiment packets littered the floor of her posh Cadillac...probably the floor of her apartment, now, too, I thought in disgust. She was dead, alright. Dead drunk. I grabbed her by the shoulders, and, with an energy fueled by fury, shook her until her teeth rattled. All I got for my efforts were a few moans and incoherent mumbles and a piercing pain in my right hand. Clambering to my feet, I pulled a bloody sliver from my palm. It left a nasty looking hole ripe for infection, so I crossed the few short steps to the sink to wash it out. The ubiquitous orange speckled shag rug did not extend into this area. Instead, the floor was covered in a linoleum of fake bricks, one of the few improvements that actually pleased my eye. My gaze drifted to the frying pan still smoking on the stove, and I felt a flash of anger again. Margery could ve burned the place down with her reckless behavior. Payback time, I thought, as I turned on the tap and let the cold water sting my wound. I searched the metal cabinet under the sink with my free hand until I found a dented aluminum saucepan left behind by a previous tenant. Perfect. In this story Dr. Heidegger, who is known to tell a thousand stories (Hawthorne 1), gets four old and perhaps depressed friends to drink elixir . These people start to feel young and rejuvenated again. In the process of reading this story a question presents itself. This question is whether the elixir Dr.Heidegger is testing is actually real. The answer is simply yes, the elixir is real. One piece of evidence is that the elixir brings back a rose that had been dead for fifty five years. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heidegger s Experiment , some of the story is told from a third person point of view. This is significant for one quote in particular, There was a healthful suffusion on their cheeks, instead of the ashen hue that had made them look so corpse like (Hawthorne 3). This is significant because an outsider is telling us there is a change. He has no bias in this situation, yet he notices a physical change after they drank the elixir. This proves that this could not be a placebo effect, and that the elixir is real. Another piece of vital evidence to support that the elixir is real, is that the four test subjects plan to find the Fountain of Youth . They resolved forthwith to make a pilgrimage to Florida, and quaff at morning, noon, and night, from the Fountain of Youth (Hawthorne 5). This shows that the four test subjects want to feel young all the time. If the elixir was not real, they would not be so desperate to find the source. The change that they felt was so invigorating, that they want it all the time. This shows the true power of the elixir, further proving that it is real, and it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Odyssey is told from the ancient Greek perspective around 700BC, and The Inferno is told from a Christian point of view in 1300AD. Both epics are written nearly 2000 years apart from each other. What set apart the ideals of both epics are the Pagan warrior perspective in Homer s epic and the Christian Europe perspective in Dante s epic. The controversial topic is what makes Ulysses a hero in The Odyssey and what makes him one of the world s greatest sinners in The Inferno? In The Odyssey, Odysseus or Ulysses, is considered a hero. There are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual machining, and can be repeated in exactly the same manner over and over again. Because of the precision possible with CNC Machining, this process can produce complex shapes that would be almost impossible to achieve with manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production of many complex three dimensional shapes. It is because of these qualities that CNC Machining is used in jobs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks. The hypothesis stated for the first experiment that if the lead sinker is heated in boiling water, placed in a calorimeter, and tracked consistently for the temperature, then the heat capacity of the lead sinker can be calculated because with the mass of the lead sinker, the original volume and mass of the water, and before and after temperaturechecks of the water, the data collected can be used with available formulas for heatcapacity to find the heat capacity of the lead. The heat capacity of the sinker was determined by dividing the heat absorbed by the water by the sinker s temperature change and the two values for each trial were determined to be 7.82 J/०C and 9.88 J/०C, with an average actual specific heat capacity of 0.136 J/g०C, a 16.9% difference from the theoretical heat capacity of lead of 0.159 J/g०C. The percent difference was too vast to support the hypothesis, which required that heat capacity be calculated accurately with little error. For this first experiment, performance errors that contributed to the inconsistent results were the touching of the the thermometer to the calorimeter and continuous, unnecessary movement of the thermometer, producing inaccurate measurements of the water temperature. Likewise, the lead sinker was left out in the open for too long while transitioning between the hot water bath and the calorimeter, causing heat and energy loss. In the second part of this lab, which set out to determine the caloric capacity of the Cheeto Puff, the average calories per gram found from the two trials were 0.330 Cal/g, in comparison to the 5.71 Cal/g that was determined from the nutrition facts off the bag. • 31. The Catholic Church In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales The Catholic Church was a dominant and powerful foundation represented throughout The Canterbury Tales and through the Medieval Era. The majority of religious figures in the story portrayed characteristics of unscrupulousness and deceitfulness which emerged from the corruption of the church. The exception is the Parson; who is an accurate symbol of what the Clergyshould be, unlike the Friar who neglects to pursue his missionary. For instance both men act in contrast of each other and illustrate both the admirable and the sinful appearance of the clergy. Throughout the tales these two men and their polarity are presented on accounts of their obligations of the clergy, charitable nature, and their lifestyles. Above all, the Parson is seen as an eminent exemplification which is described by Chaucer as a holy minded man of good renown (line 475), the only faithful clergy in the tales. The Parson lives a life where he preaches to his worshippers so that they can follow saying, With houses far asunder he neglected not in rain or thunder, in sickness or in grief, to pay a call (Lines 501 503). This quote describes the Parson as a devout loyalist who perseveres through adversity, no matter the weather or his physical conditions. The Apple II was a true innovation for its time and completely revolutionized the computer market. However, it was not the Apple II itself that was amazing even though it had color graphics and a very high resolution for its time; it was what you could do with the computer that garnered so much interest, especially from businesses (Rawlinson). Dan Bricklin, a Harvard Business School student saw that he could create and run a program on the Apple II that could do a few different types of calculations we know this today as a spreadsheet. The program or app, named VisiCalc, solidified Apple s place in the computer and technology industry (Rawlinson). After the Apple II came the Macintosh and then came the iMac. Webster s definition of lucidity continues with clearness of thought or style and a presumed capacity to perceive the truth directly and instantaneously . In this sense, lucid dreaming is associated with controlling one s dreams as they are happening. It is a term that was coined by Frederik van Eeden in the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research, Vol. 26, 1913: I can only say that I made my observations during normal deep and healthy sleep, and that in 352 cases, I had full recollection of my day life and could act voluntarily, though I was so fast asleep that no bodily sensations penetrated my perception. The current thought is indicating that that there is a lack of understanding about what is and what is not appropriate to the time and place of the dreamworld (Levitan, A Fool s Guide to Lucid Dreaming , 1994). This theory postulates that while absurdity is inherent in dreams, lack of practice in dream manipulation can cause the dreamer to confront ideas that may cause the dreamer to lose control of lucidity. This lack of understanding may cause the dreamer to misinterpret the dream and to have moments of self doubt. There are three main situations that tend to initiate loss of control and rationality in a dream: Being afraid of physical harm; Being afraid of social consequences; Thinking that another dream character is really there. All of these pitfalls can inhibit a dreamer from achieving a higher state of lucidity in his dreams. Why Would You Want to Have Lucid Dreams? (Hall, pg. 88) The famous last words is a clear indication of the doomed future of Rob Hall, but it also shows how courageous he was throughout the whole expedition. In Into Thin Air , by Jon Krakauer, Rob Hall demonstrates time and time again his courage by showing nothing but confidence in getting his clients to the summit, by waiting for Doug Hansen at the summit, and by how long he actually stayed up on the mountain. First, Rob Hall shows courage by being confident in his ability to get his clients up the mountain. With so many incompetent people on the mountain, Rob said with a frown one evening in late April, I think it s pretty unlikely that we ll get through this season without something bad happening up high. This might have convinced the climbers that they were safe as long as they were guided by Rob Hall. When he showed that confidence, it assures the climbers that they are in the best hands possible. The word Gothic, first recorded in 1611 in a reference of the language of the Goths, was extended in sense in several ways, meaning Germanic , medieval, not classical , barbarous and also an architectural style that was not Greek or Roman. Hydrogen as an Option for Fuel With gas prices escalating and fossil fuels becoming limited, scientists have been researching an alternative fuel source that will be more abundant and cost efficient. Issues with our current fuel source include the pollution that is emitted in our air and water sources and the fact that fossil fuels are becoming scarce. One alternative to gasoline is the use of hydrogen as a fuel source. With hydrogen as a fuel source pollution will be in decline, it has become increasingly more abundant than fossil fuels through extracting hydrogen from various sources, and is domestically produced. There are many pros to using hydrogen as an alternative fuel source; namely, its abundance, its low pollution, and the fact that it is being researched and extracted domestically. Hydrogen is one of the most abundant elements on earth and can be found in water, hydrocarbons and other organic matter. Because of hydrogen being so abundant scientists are able to extract it from a variety of sources, therefore, the problem with hydrogen as a fuel source is how to exactly make hydrogen an efficient fuel source. Currently hydrogen is extracted from natural gas, but this releases the greenhouse gas CO2 and uses up a limited resource. Drug trafficking, smuggling and embezzlement are examples of criminal activities that generate large amounts of illicit funds for criminal groups; the desire to legitimize these funds and minimize detection stimulate the demand for money laundering schemes (Buchanan 2004). Organizations try to make the money appear legal and legitimate in order to minimize the possibility of being apprehended by authorities. Money laundering takes away the integrity of licensed financial systems and associations and ultimately provides organized crime the money it requires to perform additional criminal activities (Seymour 2008). There are 3 phases of money laundering; Placement, Layering and Integration. Placement is fulfilled by transforming the sum of cash obtained from criminal activities into a more movable and less dubious form. After this, inserting these earnings into the mainstream economic system makes the money appear legitimate. The purpose of this is to withdraw the illegal profits and isolate it from their illegal origins. However, the laundering mechanism is most susceptible during placement because illicit pursuit provokes large sums of cash, which is hefty and tough to obscure in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The thing that makes this piece so special is the decade in which she wrote and this play. In the 1950s, it was portrayed as a good time for economy and blacks where content with their inferior status. This play was a revolutionary work for this time in the 1950s. Most plays didn t depict what an actual black family goes through on American Stage. African American roles before this play would be small, comedic roles and ethnic stereotypes. Hansberry shows a black family in the light of reality where it was comedic, it was real life struggles. There were issues throughout the play brought up such as poverty, discrimination, and the constitution of African American racial identity. This play shows the real life tensions between the black and white societies. Not only is Hansberry talking about blacks in American but she has issues of Africans anticolonial struggles as well. Another risky topic Hansberry shared in the play was feminism. The character Beneatha showed that women could have ambitious dreams and goals as well. Women didn t have to depend on marriage and just become a housewife, they could work hard for themselves. Even the topic of abortion was addressed even though it was illegal in this error. Hansberry main point of the play was to focus on dreams. Every main character in the play had their own dream. Materialistic dreams created problems in the family and happiness. Hansberry focus was to do what s best for your family and continue to lift each other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Analysis Of The Wind Driven Rain Landing On His Back By... The way Tim Winton wrote was excellent and clever in the way he describes an uncomfortable surrounding but finds the good in it Although the way Tim Winton writes is very juxtaposition allowing you to reflect on the scenario, a good example of this is small mercies page 70 where Tim describes the swimming centre and how it was damp and he felt a soupy chlorine feel , once he started swimming he describes the air of every breath tasting of sheep urine but then he goes on to talk about the thing he enjoyed most, that was the wind driven rain landing on his back . The text describes an unpleasant experience but at the end he describes a pleasant yet satisfying breeze of wind landing on his back, the way he writes is very juxtaposition themed... Tim Winton does this many times throughout his stories some good examples in small mercies is when Tim Winton writes about the Keenan s as the salt of the earth meaning they are simple and good people, the term originated from Jesus Christ when he spoke to his followers saying ye are the salt of the earth , another use of a simile in Tim Winton small mercies is when he describes the Keenan house smelling like old people this is a simile because Tim Winton was comparing the odour of there house to old people. Tim Winton also says that the Keenan s wood stove oven is the Rolls Royce of the ranges this is a simile because he compares there oven to a high end car. In damaged goods Tim uses simile throughout the book one example of this is when he is talking about when strawberry Alison came to town and how she was a beauty but she was damaged goods because of her large birthmark across her face, this is another good example as Tim talks about her looks as damaged goods this term comes from someone who is regarded as inadequate or impaired in some way this is a simile because damaged good means something that was good or valuable lost all value due to a little defect a good example is painting, it may be ... • 55. Catechism In The Chick Tract This Chick Tract also touches on the idea of an all loving God which goes hand in hand with the idea of God giving His only begotten Son so that everyone else will be allowed eternal life (John 3:16 ). The fundamentalists try to state in this Chick Tract that God does not love Roman Catholics because God views them as a false religion. The fundamentalists believe that the Catholic Churchis just trying to persuade people to join their faith and that it actually goes against the word of God. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Faith, Catholics believe in an all loving God due to the fact that He always provides for His people, forgives sins, and most importantly offers His followers an eternity of everlasting love with Him in heaven if they choose to do so (Cline, Austin, Is God Omnibenevolent). God has proven that He loves all of His followers and children not only through the giving of His Son, but also throughout other parts of the Bible. Deuteronomy 7:9 shows a great example of this love Remember that the Lord your God is the only God and that he is faithful. He will keep his covenant and show his constant love to a thousand generations of those who love him and obey his commands . God is telling his followers that if they remain faithful to Him, He will in return remain faithful to them, and will always guide them and keep them safe. This God does not seem to be a God of hate who could merely banish someone to spend the rest of eternity burning in hell for not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
