Grant Wood Essay
Grant Wood
I recently took a trip to the Jocelyn Art Museum. There they had many great painting in the
permanent art collection. One that caught my eye, which I had seen many times before, but never
knew any thing about, was a painting called Stone City, Iowa , which was created by Grant Woodin
1930. This painting is oil on wood panel and is
30 Вј X 40 inches.
Grant Wood is a famous philosopher who was born in February in the year 1891 in Anamosa,
Iowa. Wood was born to Quaker parents on a small farm. This experience would be the basis of
his iconic images of small town plain folk and verdant Midwestern vistas. He later moved to
Cedar Rapids after the death of his father in 1901. He first studied at the Minneapolis ... Show more

What they shared, among themselves and among other American Scene painters, was a humble,
antimodernist style and a fondness for depicting everyday life. However, their rural conservatism
put them at odds with the urban and leftist Social Realists of the same era.
The three best known regionalists were Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, and Grant Wood.
With Thomas Hart Benton and John Steuart Curry, who died prematurely in 1946, Wood
represented the painters of The American Scene also known as the school of Regional American
Landscape. These artists represented rural life in the U.S in the tradition of European masters.
They enjoyed success in 1930 during the Great Depression when the public found some
intellectual and moral comfort during troubled times. Wood was trying to induce the birth of a
true American national art. He even wrote a manifesto, Revolt against the City in 1935 calling for
a renaissance of American art which he found too dependent on European art, especially French art
notably in the field of abstract painting. He wanted to regroup regional schools in order to develop
a new form of realistic painting.
Success came late for Wood who spent his life in his native Iowa where he found his inspiration
and subjects. At the start of his career he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and then
painted in a manner that could be compared to those of John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Edouard
Vuillard or

The Lucky One
I chose to read The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks as my contemporary novel. I have read it
before and I have seen the movie and i loved them both. I was really glad to finally read
something i enjoyed and have to write a paper on it. In the following paragraphs i summarize
both the book and the movie, talk about differences and similarities between the book and the
movie, and finally i discuss how i felt about the book and the movie and which i prefer. The
following is a summary of the book. It is about a man named Logan, a Marine serving in Iraq,
who comes across a photograph in the desert. The photograph is of a woman at a fair with a
huge ferris wheel and three trees in the background and on the back it says, Keep safe! E .
Logan s best friend, Victor, a fellow Marine, says that he was meant to find that photograph and
that it brings him good luck, after Logan tries to find out who is belongs to with no luck and
after Logan survives many explosions while having the photo with him. So when Logan returns
home, he sets out to find the woman, at Victor s suggestion. All he has is a letter of her name
and the background of the photo to go off of. After doing some research he finally narrows it
down to a town in North Carolina. He heads out with his dog, a german shepard named Zeus, on
foot across the country, traveling from Colorado to North Carolina. While traveling, he runs into a
cop named Keith, who he later finds out is the ex husband of the girl in the picture. Logan

Classical Conditioning And Operant Conditioning
In this booklet you will find an overview of all the different approaches to psychology. This will
consist of the key assumptions, examples of the relevant psychologists and examples of their work,
as well as an exploration into the advantages and disadvantages that some of these approaches
possess.
Behaviourism is a theory of learning based upon the idea that all behaviours are attained through
conditioning. Behaviourists believe conditioning occurs when we interact with the environment
and that the environment we are in determines the way we respond to a stimulus. The behaviourist
approach believes we learn behaviours through association between response and consequence. For
instance, by touching a hot iron you will feel pain. Therefore, we learn from this, and know not to
touch a hot iron as we associate feeling pain as a consequence of this action. There are two forms of
conditioning within the behaviourist approach; classical conditioning and operant conditioning.
Behaviourists believe that individuals are born without built in mental content, known as a blank
slate and that all behaviours arise from experience or perception.
Classical conditioning says that we learn behaviours by associating the response to the stimulus.
An example of this can be found from the work of Ivan Pavlov. In the 1890s Pavlov, a Russian
physiologist, carried out some experiments with a dogs. He noticed that when a dog eats food, they
salivate: this is an unconditional response to an

Alice Walker Everyday Use Symbolism
Alice Walker, author of the short story, Everyday Use, uses a plethora of symbolisms to depict
various situations and provoke the mind of the reader to think relatively deep in analyzing her
literary work. Intricately, symbolism refers to the representation of one item or idea in the form of
another with an aim of creating an understandable meaning of a particular societal situation through
a narration. Symbols are majorly a form of words or objects. Symbolism is a crucial literary
element that is widely used by writers to present their ideologies creatively. Significantly, literature
authors always have an objective to exert symbolism in their writings. Similarly, Alice Walker uses
symbolism to symbolize various situations in her literature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to Mama s perception, the inside of the house is less comfortable than the outside,
regardless of the inside being clean and the outside being dirty at times. The narrator illustrates
this point when she states, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. (p. 494)
The comfortability of the yard embraces a symbolic place of hospitality and comfort. As stated
by Cropley, A favorite place is a place where we feel comfortable and relaxed. (Cropley)
Comparably, the main reason why the yard is prepared is to convey hospitality for when Dee
arrives. As stated in the text, I will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and
wavy yesterday afternoon. (p. 494) Before Dee s arrival, Mama gives a vivid description of the
visual aspect and cleanliness of the yard, whereas Dee is expected to be symbolically welcomed
into the spotless yard, which presents comfort and hospitality. Furthermore, Mama shows an
enormous preference of the yard that often gets breezes that never come inside the house. (p. 494)
For instance, most of the discussion about the quilt is carried out in the yard rather than inside the
house. As the narrator points out, It is not just a yard. It is like an extended living room. (p. 494)
The yard was a personal space for both, Maggie and Mama, who felt open and free to discuss
anything in the yard, which symbolizes the small extent of the setting where they can control
their lives, relax, and clear their thoughts. The author, Mark Cropley, states .... It is your space, a
space to regulate your emotions, a place to relax, calm down, and clear your mind. (Cropley)
Therefore, the yard is equally as important to the quilt, since the story begins at the yard and ends
at the very same place. In addition. the yard symbolizes a place of solitude and reflection.
Symbolically, the yard presents the difficulties

Technology Essay
Technology
In the following paper I am going to attempt to discuss the hindering effects of technology. How
technology affects the laziness of our children, desensitizes our otherwise compassionate human
race, and may eventually lead us to our doom. Also in this paper I will attempt to discuss some
benefits of modern technology as relating to family and communal prosperity. Since the invention of
Eli Whitneys cotton gin back in the 1800s men have had their brains full steam ahead on the idea of
technology and its advancement into our everyday lives. Leading us up to the present day where
we can have a hot cooked neucro meal at the push of the button. Our music no longer has to be

Both were intended for better communication among our society. For example, President
Roosevelt used to have fire side chats on the radio during the trying times of World War II. TV
was a great advancement as far as putting the voices of power, such as the president, with their
faces. TVs were also used to bring the family together for a late night show. In todays world all
that seems to be on the popular radio stations is slang and a lot of bleeping. As for TV, I cant
seem to get that footage of the World Trade Towers going down. Over and over again they show
those clips, not thinking of the thousands of souls floating away at that very same moment.
Children see this stuff and think nothing about the chaos. Even their cartoon characters have
huge bombs, and kill each other. Now I don t know about you but I never saw Mickey kicking
Donald s ass all over the TV when I was growing up. These kinds of shows have led to hours of
programmable crap we feed to our children each day.
Still the communication benefits are there, but the desensitizing danger and loss of compassion
in our children is a real threat. Recently weve developed a new technology, quite a nifty gadget if
you ask me. This one is called the computer and started off as one hell of a calculator, designed
for speedy math. So computers made math go a bit easier, what else could this little box do? Now

The Death Of Death And Death
Both Socrates and Lucretius have similar outlooks on death, but the reasoning as to why they
believe death should not be feared are completely different. Socrates states that death is not dreadful
because we do not know what is ahead of us and through this concept arises a term called
reincarnation. Lucretius, on the other hand, says that the souldoes not go anywhere when we die and
that everything is materialistic. He goes on to say that death does nothing to us because we once
started with nothing. Although both these philosophers have different takes on how death should
be perceived, they both are reassuring us that death is not something to be afraid of.
To begin with, Socrates states that death is not bad. He thinks that we should not fear death because
we do not know what awaits us or what is coming therefore there is no reason for us to feel
scared. Socrates, himself, says all these things while he knows he is about to die so it makes the
audience feel a sense of security because usually people who know they are going to die do not
handle it in a calm and collected manner. At the same time, because he has not experienced death
yet, Lucretius may oppose his opinions because Socrates does not actually know what awaits him
after he dies. Lucretius would argue and say that the soul does not move forward and that we as
humans are no longer moving forward after death.
Socrates states Then before we began to see or hear or otherwise perceive, we must have possessed

Overpopulation Is A Major Challenge That Humans Face Today
Overpopulation is a major challenge that humans face today. The human population is close to 8
billion, and at our current birthrate, we are adding nearly one billion more people every 12 years.
Issues such as dependence of natural resources, degradation of the environment, poverty, and
unemployment, are root causes of overpopulation. Though opponents of this theory, such as Erle
C. Ellis uses archeological records, and the history of human evolution to argue against
overpopulation. Robert Walker, on the other hand, disagrees. He uses scientific explanation to
anticipate that all living beings on earth will are under torment as they die off due to: erosion of
natural resources, mainly food, and water. Next, Joel Kotkin claims that an... Show more content on

Many years later, they extracted nutrients from the species by cooking them, and used different
woods for enhanced hunting outcomes. Ellis points out that these innovations are still being used
before since the last ice age ended. So, if hunter gatherers were, therefore, successful worldwide at
that time, human innovation will adapt. Ellis further argues that, the planet s carrying capacity of
hunter gatherers was not any more than 100 million. Without their stone tools, he argues, the
amount would be a lot less. The creation of agriculture, eventually empowered a higher population
growth, which needed more land use. Although the population is much greater now, approximately
7.2 billion, society has adapted with innovation. In contrast to a UN assessment, Ellis believes that a
peak population is sustainable if obligatory investments are finalizing in the substructure and
conducive trade, supplemented with anti scarceness and food security strategies. , For instance,
Chinese agriculture, shows that population growth will increase efficiency; this is because the
relationship between population and economic wealth displays an increase of productivity. As the
population rises, so does the productivity that matches the stock of food available, this is due to
Anthropocene. Anthropocene suggests that people essentially live in human dominated
environments, which is being changed for our livelihood. Society is transformed

The LAPD Incident Analysis
Cronkhite discussed the King incident in depth and how the failures of the Loa Angeles Police
Department (LAPD) and its leaders to institutionalize some of the contextual themes led to the
beating of Rodney King (Cronkhite, 2013). This incident led to an independent investigation by
what was known as the Christopher Commission (Cronkhite, 2013). Cronkhite (2013) discussed
some of the issues found by the commission and how the failure to use some of the concepts
contributed to the incident.

Many of the same problems discussed by Cronkhite (2013) in the King incident were also found in
the Rampart scandal. Even after the King incident, administrators failed to investigate complaints

Copernicus Influence On Religion
The Religious aspects that life seemed to revolve around during the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries made a large impression on the way scientists not only distributed their information, but
the way it was written down and explained. During the time period the Church held an
extraordinary amount of power, easily outweighing any mere scientist who claimed the seemingly
impossible notion that the sun, not the earth, was in the center of the universe. Should someone
inadvertently challenge this immense authority, death was not simply a threat, it was an absolute
promise. This absolute giant of a power that was the church, loomed over many scientists such as
Copernicus acknowledged this power by writing things such as can readily hold slanders from

The church itself changed how scientists as a whole worked, scientists didn t dedicate their
works to their inspirations, or their mothers or fathers like most authors (scientific or not) do

a power this was and how is changed the way scientists wrote. In very few to no astrology
textbooks from the twenty first century will you find the words moses or the wisdom of God ,
because while the church is powerful today, it has no where near the sway it had back a few
hundred years ago. This power not only affected the way people spoke, but how they lived and
how history and science and math was recorded, everything revolved around the church, everything
was static to the church, and yet later on, it

During the years of 2007 2009, the U.S was experiencing a recession, which may be explanation
as to why unemployment rates went up and the economic status of the cities also declined. This
could potentially create faulty/misleading data. I am unsure the purpose of finding information
about the economic status as well as the unemployment rates of these cities because it may
simply be a reflection of the unemployment rates as well as the economic status of the country.
The true issue I found within the course of my research is the fact that these different stadiums
are now competing with one another truly leads to a higher cost for us. In a sense, there is an
essence of inequality simply because the players and owners are the ones that receive the profits
earned from the stadiums. With limited knowledge of the NFL or even puplic policy, I was
required to do an extensive research to truly understand the scope of the issue at hand. The true
relevance of these publically funded stadiums to the NFL is the fact that there is a huge reliance
on regular ticket sales to generate revenue. The reality is that these individual sports teams do not
generate much economic business. It has been shown that an average sports team in 1994 only
makes about 64 million dollars. Although jobs are being generated, they are often jobs that require

Community Maintenance Plan Paper
Revitalizing our neighborhoods is as important as getting people into homes. Broken
neighborhoods with streets in need of repair, limited access to shopping areas, few job
opportunities, and despair seeping around every corner is not good for either individuals or
communities.
I plan on using the Year of Giving as part of the plan to combat this. Our nation s youth will go
into these areas and clean them up, plant gardens, and help support new services that I hope to
bring to each of these areas.
These communities will also be given priority in city maintenance plans. Targeting issues, such as
repairing roads, water and sewer services, mass transit, and upgrading the electrical systems for
more solar and wind initiatives.
Getting jobs into these neighborhoods is also important. And the best way to do that is to
encourage small businesses to set up shop in these areas. Low interest loans and other
considerations will be given to people who wish to open a business, with priority given to those
who are residents of that community.
I would like to see city planners work with local residents to bring the kind of services and
businesses each community needs to thrive. Using local, state and federal money, we will build up

Theories And Research Of Educational Psychology
Select one area of applied psychology in this module. Discuss how theory and research in this area
has been helpful or unhelpful in addressing human problems.
Educational psychology has produced a vast array of theory and research that can be applied to
educational settings to address problems that may occur. This essay will discuss how helpful, or
not so helpful, research and theory has been in dealing with problems found in schools such as
morality and understanding how children learn in order to create a rounded curriculum.
Piaget was the first to create a systematic study of cognitive development, and although he did not

implications in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is support for this idea as according to Piaget practice on a task that you are not biologically
ready for should not improve performance until sufficiently mature. Research supports this
argument as it has been found that children aged 10 and 13 did not improve on formal operational
tasks when tutored, but 17 years olds did (Danner Day, 1977) as Piaget s theory would expect.
Therefore, the concept of readiness may be helpful in understanding why children may not show
improvement on challenging tasks even with tutoring. If this is the case then teachers should revise
the material they are teaching to make sure their age group is biologically ready to interpret the
material.
On the other hand, there is research that also contradicts the idea that a child has to be
biologically ready to be able to learn something. Bryant and Trabasso (1971) showed that children
in the pre operational stage could be trained to solve some logical tasks which, according to Piaget
s theory they should not be able to do. Instead, they argued that children s failure was due to
memory restrictions and not an absence of logical thinking that appears in the operational stage.
They showed that when given suitable training 4 year olds showed good performance on these
tasks. They then suggested that it is practice and not readiness that matters when children are
learning new

Macbeth Movie Vs Play
Macbeth is a play about a Scottish general (Macbeth) who receives a prophacy from three witches
that states that one day, he wil become the king of Scotland. This makes Macbeth power hungry so
he decides to murder the current king of Scotland, Duncan. As people grow more and more
suspicious of who killed Duncan, Macbethis forced to commit more murders in order to protect
himself from being exposed. This leads to him becoming filled with paranoia and guilt, which
ultimately is his major downfall. Shakespeare wrote this play in 1606 to make people realize that
excessive ambition can have terrible consequences. Both the play and the movie incorporate
murders into telling the story of Macbeth, but they do so in different ways.

Macbeth was so focused on becoming king that he wanted to eliminate any threat that came his
way. The three witches had warned him to watch out for Macduff, so Macbeth decided to kill him.
Not knowing that Macduff had fled to England with Malcolm, Macbeth sent hired servents to go
kill Macduff. When they realized that Macduff was not there, they decided to kill his family instead
to prove the point that Macbeth is not afraid of Macduff. In the play, Macbeth is not present during
the murder of Macduff s family but in the movie he is. This was probably the biggest difference
between the Macduff family murder in both versions of the story. Another big difference was
that in the play when Ross told Macduff that his family had been viciously slaughtered, Macduff
did not seem phased at all. He was not very upset, just a little mad. In the movie however,
Macduff nearly dies himself when he hears the news that his family had been killed. They made
it this way in the movie to make it more dramatic and suspensful to watch. Another major
difference in this scene is that in the play, the son of Lady Macduff says Thou liest, thou shag
haired villian! (Macbeth 4.2.80). After he yells this at the murderer, the murderer stabs him to
death. In the movie, the son never says this and it never shows him getting stabbed. The movie
did this to give the audience a chance to envision what the murder was like on their own. The
three big differences in the murder of Macduff s family is Macbeth was part of the actual murder
in the movie and not the play, Macduff does not get very emotional in the play but he does in the
movie, and the movie does not show the son getting stabbed while the book

As with the improvement of cameras that produce high quality videos and images, storage
needed to store the videos is became a big issue especially for the film makers that have huge
video files to store. Thus we need a mechanism that make the videos compact so that they
efficiently store on the hard drives and other storage devices. Here comes the compression
techniques that makes it possible to remove the redundancy from bit stream of video files so they
take less place to be stored. Transmission of video files is also a big reason that describes the
importance of video compression in more prominent way. We need to transmit high quality videos

A Farewell to Arms, by Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway defined a hero as, A man who lives correctly, following the ideals of honor,
courage and endurance in a world that is sometimes chaotic, often stressful, and always painful.
It is blatantly apparent that Henry, the protagonist of A Farewell to Arms, did not exemplify any
of these traits at all in the beginning of the novel. However, as the book progressed, Henry
gradually learned how to be a Hemingway Hero , and he eventually progressed to the point
where he completely embodied all that is expected of such. It is crucial to realize, however, that
Henry did not become a textbook example of a Hemingway Hero overnight. It would have been
absolutely impossible for Henry to become the man he was at the end of the novel... Show more

What Henry experienced during this particular time significantly impacted him and helped him
break away from the blueprint of the average soldier . Becoming a member of the army was of
great benefit to Henry because it was the one thing that really pushed him over the edge and
shattered the world as he knew it. The whole experience of the retreat was a crucial part of the
book because it gave Henry the insight he needed to grow into a Hemingway Hero. Events like
Aymo s death and Bonello s cowardice definitely influenced Henry, but bigger events like the
killing of the sergeant was what really changed Henry the most. Henry s encounter with the
battle police was truly sobering as well. He found what they were doing to the officers
disgusting and dishonorable, but after all that is what happens amid the chaos of a retreat. I saw
how their minds worked; if they had minds and if they worked. They were all young men and
they were saving their country (Hemingway 224). When Henry saw the darker side of the army,
and just how wrong everything that was happening really was, he truly changed inside. After he
finally did escape, he completely abandons the army forever, Anger was washed away in the river
along with any obligation (Hemingway 232). It was at this moment Henry truly embodied a
Hemingway Hero. Equally important in Henry s development into a Hemingway Hero was his
love for Catherine. Before Henry met Catherine he was extremely selfish. This was

Japanese Americans And Internment Camps
When the Japanese Americans migrated to the United States they were not welcomed with open
arms. The Japanese Americans faced many hardships. The biggest hardships they faced were their
treatment by the American people as well as by the American government after the attack on Pearl
Harbor on December 7, 1941. Japanese Americans were taken from their homes and placed in
internment camps for years with little to no explanation as to why. According to the United States
government the Japanese Americans placement in internment camps were justified on national
security grounds (Brooks), but the truth is Japanese Americans were placed in internment camps
because of fear and racial prejudice. This event in history is important because it... Show more

In 1924 the U.S. passed the National Origin Act which restricted the immigration of Southern and
Eastern Europeans and practically excluded immigration from Japan into the United States all
together.
To be a Japanese immigrant in the early 1900s was difficult but after December 7, 1941 things
only got worse. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese Imperial Navy attacked the United States
naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Although conflict had been underway in both Europe and
Asia for years, the United States did not formally enter the hostilities until December 8, when
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt famously declared the attack on Pearl Harbor a day which
we live in infamy and asked Congress for a declaration of war (Wu and Izumi). After the attack
on Pearl Harbor race became increasingly associated with loyalty in the United States (Harth

President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. Executive Order 9066 granted the secretary
of war and his commanders the power to prescribe military areas in such places and of such
extent as he or the appropriate Military Commander may determine, from which any or all persons
may be excluded (Executive Order 9066). Although the text of Executive Order 9066 did not
specifically mention Japanese Americans, it was intended to apply to them exclusively (G.

Anti Physicalism Research Paper
Physicalism is the view that all things in our mental phenomena ultimately belong to the domain of
physical phenomena. This could mean, that they either are physical, or depend on physical
phenomena s such as neural signals in the brain. Another way to look at physicalism is that
everything lies within the domain of physics, and everything physical is made up of different
arrangements of the fundamental physical elements. The opposite of physicalism would be anti
physicalism. Anti physicalism is a view that some or all, mental phenomena do not always belong
to the domain of physical phenomena. With the basic understanding of these two concepts one can
approach the mindand body problem.
We being humans consider ourselves to have a mind, yet we treat things that may not have a mind
differently. The way we distinguish whether something has a mind or not is often termed the marks
of the mental. There are two properties that almost all philosophers can agree on that are marks of a
mental state. The first property would be, only mental states have intentionally. Intentionality helps
support the anti physicalism view of the mind body problem because of psychological attitudes.

Life education would be filled with students who are diverse in physical appearance first and
foremost. It would be a place that would teach children that they could be independent in all
aspects of life. It would be a place where children always feel safe and welcome. It would not be
an institution solely used to emphasize discipline and obedience skills that factory owners wanted
in their workers in the 1800 s. Children would be free to question anything they like in an
appropriate, respectful and timely manner. Students would be of all races and skin colors. Complete
integration of all students would be the norm. This would be strongly implemented for the children
during their first years in this learning environment. The sooner they are exposed to other human
beings of different features their age the better. Racism would not stand the chance of poisoning the

Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy
Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at
Policy issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts
his book by looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his
readers that problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken
over by researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the
government. When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the
decision agenda.
In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to
know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He
explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern
whereas alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction
between the government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects
that people involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific
issues. These issues are made to discuss and take action on.
Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors
in the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. The
President is the actor who sets agendas through veto power and hiring and firing

The Controversy Of Male Dominance In Hispanic Culture
Male dominance a subject that is a huge topic of debate. Societies have accepted male dominance
because it has been tradition for culture. For my Hispanic culture it has been seen as a trait of my
culture that a wife would be beaten by their husband. Women throughout history is have not been
treated equal to men. Maledominance is a topic of huge debate. Societies have seen the unjust of
male dominance and hear the stories of femaleabuse by males. Women were suppressed by males
in many ways. Women were seen as just a symbol of a caretaker and a mother. Recently women
are being more independent and gaining high position jobs but in male dominated jobs. A recent

Evidence to support this claim is that for males it is genetically designed for males to be dominant
because of production of testosterone. The hormones in males causes them to compete for
dominance. Since men have more hormones than women men are more prone to compete for
dominance. Reason why is because of reproduction system. The testosterone gives a masculinizing
effect on the brain. Compete for dominance is shown in politics. Men have more position in
government. The British government has been mostly ruled by a female leader but is in control of
a male dominated government. There is a female position in British politics but is small compared
to the amount of males position. There are more men running the government than women.

WordPress is an open source platform. This means that the codes that have already been written
and used can be reused by developers without having to start from the beginning or modify. This
has given thousands of developers worldwide the avenue to develop themes, plugins etc, for the
WordPress platform. This saves them tremendous time since they are working on a foundation that
has already been laid. The more these developers develop WordPress themes and plugins, the more
popular the platform becomes.
2. Usability and simplicity:
WordPress developers may love WordPress development because of its Open Source nature, but
average users love WordPress because of its high user friendliness. For most other Content

The world of sports has grown larger than life over the past century, especially in college. Being a

are also devoted to their school work. And the award they receive for their hard work? Of course
there are the great memories, friendships made, free education , or national championships, but are

The only day off is Sunday. This seems a little far fetched for being college students. Oh, I forgot to
mention the pay; $0. Student athletes have a more demanding job, mentally and physically, yet
they have little to show for it.
This isn t an argument that proposes colligate athletes should be paid just because they work hard.
The reasoning extends far beyond their work ethics. First of all, colligate athletics is a billion
dollar industry. On average, 44,367 fans attend a college football game. Imagine that a university
such as Ohio State holds 7 games at Ohio Stadium as it did in 2003. 105.000+ fans can occupy
Ohio Stadium at one time. At the least, one may find a ticket for $50, if they are lucky. During one
Ohio State football game, at least $5.25 million will be made. This is just one source of revenue the
university receives. Not to mention, merchandise, concessions, and BSC appearances. All are major
contributors to the lucrative business of college athletics.
From the millions of dollars generated from ticket sales to the millions of dollars generated from
major tournament bids, colligate athletes don t receive any of this money, which is ironic
considering the fact that they are the reason that most of this money is being made. Why shouldn t
they be rewarded with a share of the billion dollar a year industry that they are so much a part of?

a history of more than a hundred years: Manchester United. Their beloved club was to be acquired
by an American business tycoon, Malcolm Glazer. What concerned the fans even more was the
fact that most of the capital used by Glazer to purchase the team was debt and that he would load

Ever since Glazer loaded the club with ВЈ525million debt, over ВЈ680million has gone towards

Although Man Utd won five Premier League titles, three league cups, and a Champions League

A nuclear plant in Hartlepool, Germany was opposed by its citizens. Thousands of people gathered
in protest, and the plant was not built. Germans continued their protests of anything having to do

that live in Ramsar, Iran receive 26,000 mrem per year due to the natural radium where they live.
Researchers know that it takes 75,000 100,000 mrem to induce radiation sickness, but those in
Ramsar do not exhibit symptoms of radiation sickness although they live in such a radioactive

Murray then discusses nuclear waste, which is more of a problem. The rods in American reactors
must be replaced every 18 months, and it will be a problem when there is no more room. Fuel
reprocessing is a viable option that dramatically lowers the amount of waste to be disposed, but was

Rewarding College Athletes Benefits Essay
The Benefit of Rewarding College Athletes
A typical college Coach makes a seven figure salary, and what do the college athletes get

Merriam Webster Dictionary, amateurism is when somebody does an activity or hobby without
being paid, such as a college athlete. Many college athletes struggle financially during their years
attending college. Some believe that if they would have had a much easier time if they were

People believe the only important thing in college is the education and not what people love to

for people to have fun and do what they love. People who play sports wear their bodies down
each time they step out on the field. Even though it is what they love, it also becomes tiring and

Coltrane s Interpretation Of The Sound Of Music
I was drawn to this song after first hearing it in the 1965 musical film, The Sound of Music.
Although it is a unique twist from the original with improvisation, I enjoyed the bouncier and
more upbeat tempo in Coltrane s interpretation of the song. There is an introduction in the song
followed by Coltrane s solo at 0:18 2:01. This solo played in A begins the melody and is supported
by the repeated rhythm of the pianowhich sets up the rest of the piece. He plays A and vamps in
major mode during 0:44 1:01, plays B at 1:26, and A at 1:44 while he vamps in minor mode at

Tyner s piano harmonies picks up on the e minor tonality with some alterations. Tyner s use of
quartal harmony gives the piece a cool sound that is less predictable than more traditional music.

Analysis Of The Ukiyo-E Print, Under The Great Wave
One of my favorite pieces of art would be the ukiyo e print, Under the Wave off Kanagawa
(Kanagawa oki nami ura), also known as The Great Wave, from the woodblock print series Thirty
six Views of Mount Fuji (Fugaku sanjЕ«rokkei). This print was created by Katsushika Hokusai
who at the time went by the name, Zen Hokusai Iitsu hitsu. The interesting elements of this print
are the contrast between the wave and the peak of the highest mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji. With a
height of 3776 meters, the mountain appears to be a small mound in this print compared to the
huge wave that is towering over the ships within the sense. The most eye catching feature of the
print is the claw like crest shape wave that is printed in a dark bluepigment called Prussian

The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity
According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to
8.7 million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s
Species Still Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of
life (What is Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger
scale such as genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain
species, it s imperative to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many
people do not recognize the various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main
reason life is sustainable. Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and
ecosystem. It is the framework upon which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us
with food resources, such as fruits and grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans
are dependent on biodiversity for cultural, economic and environmental stability. For example,
farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops, which allows for a greater supply of food and work.
The economic value of biodiversity stems from its production of many everyday essentials such
as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source
of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also
withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are

Introduction To Oceanography Analysis
My name is Megan Murray and I am a present sophomore at Cornell University in Ithaca, New
York. Here at Cornell, I am currently majoring in Communication with a minor in Business in the
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Due to Cornell s distribution requirements, I have had the
to opportunity to enroll in a class that has made immediate impacts on my life. Bruce Monger, the
professor of Introduction to Oceanography, has generously shared with the class his knowledge and
passion for the environment. While writing this letter is a requirement for the class, it is also an
incredible opportunity to share with you my personal opinions regarding climate changeand in
return, learn what New York State is currently doing and can do in the future to benefit the
environment. In Professor Monger s class, we discuss not only climate change, but also a plethora
of other topics that are of concern to the world around us. For example, class topics cover whale
population, coral bleaching, sustainability, ocean conservation and many other matters in addition
to climate change. What I have come to realize throughout the semester is that even the smallest
changes make a positive impact on our environment. Over the... Show more content on

Methane, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and water vapor are four of the main gasses that are
contributing to global warming and the greenhouse effect. Humans, yes humans, are one of the
principal reasons for this. Two of the most obvious human activities that contribute to global
warming are the burning of fossil fuels and clearing forests. While I am aware that there are
regulations for both of these issues, I often wonder, will it be too late? If we as people, a state, and
a country do not act immediately and efficiently, future generations will ultimately suffer from our
actions and lack of

How The Phone Call Has Become Less Popular Over Time
The Phone call has become less popular over time. Among young people, the most popular
medium for communication is via Text Message. For example, when people initiated a date,
these statistics were found; for those over 30, 52% said a phone call, 28% face to face, 8% text
message, E mail 7%. For those under 30, 23% said a phone call, 37% said face to face, 32% said
text message, E mail 1% . (Aziz Ansari. Chapter 2. Modern Romance. Penguin, 2015. Audio
book.) Notice the drop in phone calls from the older group to the younger group. There is a 29%
difference in the amount of phone calls. That s a rather large drop. Now look at the gap of
texting from the younger group to the older group. There is a 24% difference in the amount
each group texts. It is plane to see that each generation differs on their pursuit methods. Process

you two already have. Is it a friend that you want to be with, or is it a new face you want to learn

Analysis of Terrorism Cases
ANALYSIS OF TERRORISM CASES
Introduction
Terrorism manifests itself in many forms. Ideological terrorism, national terrorism and religious
terrorism are some forms of terrorism that became common after the Second World War. Several
theories and hypotheses have been put forward to explain the causes of terrorism. Among these the
negative identity hypothesis explains how frustration with social norms and roles combined with
restricted channels of expression can lead people to group together to engage in terrorist activities
to assert themselves. This essay discusses the Baader Meinhof activities, the LTTE terrorist
activities and the state sponsored terrorist activities of Iran in the light of the negative identity
hypothesis.
Identification and Description of Facts
The Baader Meinhof group was a radical German middle class uprising against the establishment
of post World War II Germany. The terrorist activities of this particular group lasted until the mid
1970s after which the movement morphed into the Red Army Faction that remained active until
1998. The Baader Meinhof group was formed by Andreas Baader and Gundrun Esslin. Other
active members of the group included Horst Mahler and Ulrike Meinhof who was a well known
journalist in Germany. The group engaged in armed struggle to protest against imperialist and
fascists Nazi remnants and ideologues such as the in the German power structure (Roberts
Hogwood 2003, p. 1971). The leader Baader was jailed in 1969 but

Refugee Reflection
The refugee exhibit in Pioneer Square was set up into different sections where each section told a
story of the struggles, and reasons behind a refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, perspective of why
they need to leave their home countries. In the beginning you are given a card, which holds an
identity of an asylum seeker, migrant, international displaced people, refugee, and you are to
become that person. We were then told to select five items that we thought were beneficial for
our journey. In my experience I was an asylum seeker from Afghan. The five things I selected
were a cell phone to contact family when I crossed the border and tell them I m fine. The next
item was money for expenses, an animal, passport to have identification, and lastly water so I
stayed hydrated. I thought it was easy enough until the tour guide explained the circumstances.
When refugees start their journee to leave their homeland they don t think about valuables, but
the necessities of what they will need for the long journey before them. I learned that each trip
you take you lose a valuable, you have to give up (exchange) something in order to attain
something new such as, a boat ride, food, a charger to charge your phone, which as I learned was
what most refugee desired to keep communications between family. I learned people in different
countries they reached would charge them to charge their phone, or had to receive something in
return. I learned that it caused conflict and it was later

Rock And Roll Essay
Rock n Roll began and evolved around the late 1940 s and 1950 s time frame. There were many
groups that participated in the creation and origin of Rock n Roll, however the two primary
groups were rhythm and blues and country music. The origins of rock n roll are often described
in a way that could be represented by an algebraic formula: r b + c w = r r (Garofalo Waksman,
2016, p. 56). While the formula is rather simplistic, it ignores the many groups of individuals,
social and cultural influences that impacted the formation of Rock n Roll. As Rolling Stone s
Robert Palmer (1990) noted:
The clichГ© is that rock roll was a melding of country music and blues, and if you are talking
about, say, Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley, the description, though simplistic, does fit. But the black
inner city vocal group sound . . . had little to do with either blues or country music in their purer
forms.
The Bo Diddley beat . . . was Afro Caribbean in derivation. The most durable . . . bass riff in
Fifties rock roll . . . had been pinched . . . from a Cuban son record. The screaming, athletic
saxophone playing . . . was straight out of Forties big band swing. . Traditional Mexican rhythms
entered the rock roll arena through Chicano artists. . . . Rock roll proved an All American, multi
ethnic hybrid, its sources and developing substyles too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Where The Grand Canyon And Lake Mead Collide
Where the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead collide, sits an ecological and historical oasis. The Virgin
Mountains stand tall in the background as waterfront views of Mead paint an unforgettable scene.
This desert abode served as host for early prehistoric inhabitants, Native Americans, early pioneers,
Spanish miners, and presently outdoor enthusiasts. Adventurists have the opportunity to explore
over 800 miles of intertwining roads that braid the landscape. Gold Butte has remained one of
Mojave s most precious secrets for decades. This elegant deserthides only an hour and a half drive
east of Las Vegas and just south of Mesquite Nevada. Gold Butte s ecosystem is comprised of
diverse organisms, many of which are sacred and protected plants and animals. Joshua trees sit
nestled deep in the mineral enriched sand, while the bighorn sheep and tortoiseroam the vast desert

outcroppings, yucca forests, slot canyons, and flat top mesas. Is it possible that a place with such a
unique array of wildlife and history can exist and remain a secret? Unfortunately, due to many
factors over the past 20 years, Gold Butte has been on center stage, but not just for tourism.
The technological uses of smart phones, GPS, digital maps, internet, and even social websites have
made it inherently impossible to keep public lands a secret. However, Gold Butte s fame did not

Power, Corrupts, Society s Demands For Moral Authority
Because power corrupts, society s demands for moral authority and character increase as the
importance of the position increases. ~John Adams
The quote above has lot of meaning and relates in many ways to my analysis of how power is
portrayed in television. There are a lot of power players and shot callers that can dominate the
scene. How much power is could truly be shown in television show? How much power does the
society have on conflicts in a relationship? Is there such a thing as a power struggle in television
shows? Does the triggering event of a conflict determine the type of power and what tactics are
used to resolve? Mahatma Gandhi says Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of
punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more
effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment. Based on Gandhi s idea
of power does the characters of Scandal act in love or out of fear? In this paper I will examined the
triggering event in several episodes of Scandal to determine the type of power and tactic of the
main power player.
Literature Review
Power is defined as the ability to influence and control events. This power is recognized by the
social power that stems from the relationships among people. Social philosopher Hannah Arendt
(1969) states that Power is never the property of an individual; it belongs to a group and remains in
existence only long as the groups keep together. The reason behind an

The Role Of Women In The Renaissance, By Leon Battista...
The role of women stood the same to everyone till the years of 1400 s when a new thinking
process began, for people embarked a new role for women. During the years of 1400 s to 1600 s
in Europe, the Renaissance sparked knowledge that spread to everyone and precipitated ideas that
included individualism the beliefthat humans were thought to be just as important as God.
Humanism established these beliefs, for it is studying the literature of the past and the faith of the
past. The renaissancegenerated these humanism and individualism convictions, which caused men
to begin to have confidence in themselves and build new innovations in the belief of their own
power. With these influences, women started to be impacted and many people started to have
several views of the role of women. These views commenced the debate over women that were
analyzed with the belief of women empowerment, humanist thinkers, and religious leaders.
Given these points, the belief of women empowerment viewed the role of women differently by
promoting the idea that women should not feel suppressed by the power of men.. The Italian
Humanist writer, Leon Battista Alberti, by being one of these believers included that a womans role
is not just by the appearance but by the way a woman s personality and character (doc 2). Battista
Alberti shows this belief by sharing his views on the beauty of women and demonstrating that
women can look pretty, but what actually makes her beautiful is her modesty, conduct,

According to De Beers s, conflict diamonds are minded or stolen by rebels who are in opposition

  • 2. Grant Wood Essay Grant Wood I recently took a trip to the Jocelyn Art Museum. There they had many great painting in the permanent art collection. One that caught my eye, which I had seen many times before, but never knew any thing about, was a painting called Stone City, Iowa , which was created by Grant Woodin 1930. This painting is oil on wood panel and is 30 Вј X 40 inches. Grant Wood is a famous philosopher who was born in February in the year 1891 in Anamosa, Iowa. Wood was born to Quaker parents on a small farm. This experience would be the basis of his iconic images of small town plain folk and verdant Midwestern vistas. He later moved to Cedar Rapids after the death of his father in 1901. He first studied at the Minneapolis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What they shared, among themselves and among other American Scene painters, was a humble, antimodernist style and a fondness for depicting everyday life. However, their rural conservatism put them at odds with the urban and leftist Social Realists of the same era. The three best known regionalists were Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, and Grant Wood. With Thomas Hart Benton and John Steuart Curry, who died prematurely in 1946, Wood represented the painters of The American Scene also known as the school of Regional American Landscape. These artists represented rural life in the U.S in the tradition of European masters. They enjoyed success in 1930 during the Great Depression when the public found some intellectual and moral comfort during troubled times. Wood was trying to induce the birth of a true American national art. He even wrote a manifesto, Revolt against the City in 1935 calling for a renaissance of American art which he found too dependent on European art, especially French art notably in the field of abstract painting. He wanted to regroup regional schools in order to develop a new form of realistic painting. Success came late for Wood who spent his life in his native Iowa where he found his inspiration and subjects. At the start of his career he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and then painted in a manner that could be compared to those of John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Edouard Vuillard or ... • 3. The Lucky One I chose to read The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks as my contemporary novel. I have read it before and I have seen the movie and i loved them both. I was really glad to finally read something i enjoyed and have to write a paper on it. In the following paragraphs i summarize both the book and the movie, talk about differences and similarities between the book and the movie, and finally i discuss how i felt about the book and the movie and which i prefer. The following is a summary of the book. It is about a man named Logan, a Marine serving in Iraq, who comes across a photograph in the desert. The photograph is of a woman at a fair with a huge ferris wheel and three trees in the background and on the back it says, Keep safe! E . Logan s best friend, Victor, a fellow Marine, says that he was meant to find that photograph and that it brings him good luck, after Logan tries to find out who is belongs to with no luck and after Logan survives many explosions while having the photo with him. So when Logan returns home, he sets out to find the woman, at Victor s suggestion. All he has is a letter of her name and the background of the photo to go off of. After doing some research he finally narrows it down to a town in North Carolina. He heads out with his dog, a german shepard named Zeus, on foot across the country, traveling from Colorado to North Carolina. While traveling, he runs into a cop named Keith, who he later finds out is the ex husband of the girl in the picture. Logan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Classical Conditioning And Operant Conditioning In this booklet you will find an overview of all the different approaches to psychology. This will consist of the key assumptions, examples of the relevant psychologists and examples of their work, as well as an exploration into the advantages and disadvantages that some of these approaches possess. Behaviourism is a theory of learning based upon the idea that all behaviours are attained through conditioning. Behaviourists believe conditioning occurs when we interact with the environment and that the environment we are in determines the way we respond to a stimulus. The behaviourist approach believes we learn behaviours through association between response and consequence. For instance, by touching a hot iron you will feel pain. Therefore, we learn from this, and know not to touch a hot iron as we associate feeling pain as a consequence of this action. There are two forms of conditioning within the behaviourist approach; classical conditioning and operant conditioning. Behaviourists believe that individuals are born without built in mental content, known as a blank slate and that all behaviours arise from experience or perception. Classical conditioning says that we learn behaviours by associating the response to the stimulus. An example of this can be found from the work of Ivan Pavlov. In the 1890s Pavlov, a Russian physiologist, carried out some experiments with a dogs. He noticed that when a dog eats food, they salivate: this is an unconditional response to an ... • 5. Alice Walker Everyday Use Symbolism Alice Walker, author of the short story, Everyday Use, uses a plethora of symbolisms to depict various situations and provoke the mind of the reader to think relatively deep in analyzing her literary work. Intricately, symbolism refers to the representation of one item or idea in the form of another with an aim of creating an understandable meaning of a particular societal situation through a narration. Symbols are majorly a form of words or objects. Symbolism is a crucial literary element that is widely used by writers to present their ideologies creatively. Significantly, literature authors always have an objective to exert symbolism in their writings. Similarly, Alice Walker uses symbolism to symbolize various situations in her literature.... According to Mama s perception, the inside of the house is less comfortable than the outside, regardless of the inside being clean and the outside being dirty at times. The narrator illustrates this point when she states, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. (p. 494) The comfortability of the yard embraces a symbolic place of hospitality and comfort. As stated by Cropley, A favorite place is a place where we feel comfortable and relaxed. (Cropley) Comparably, the main reason why the yard is prepared is to convey hospitality for when Dee arrives. As stated in the text, I will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and wavy yesterday afternoon. (p. 494) Before Dee s arrival, Mama gives a vivid description of the visual aspect and cleanliness of the yard, whereas Dee is expected to be symbolically welcomed into the spotless yard, which presents comfort and hospitality. Furthermore, Mama shows an enormous preference of the yard that often gets breezes that never come inside the house. (p. 494) For instance, most of the discussion about the quilt is carried out in the yard rather than inside the house. As the narrator points out, It is not just a yard. It is like an extended living room. (p. 494) The yard was a personal space for both, Maggie and Mama, who felt open and free to discuss anything in the yard, which symbolizes the small extent of the setting where they can control their lives, relax, and clear their thoughts. The author, Mark Cropley, states .... It is your space, a space to regulate your emotions, a place to relax, calm down, and clear your mind. (Cropley) Therefore, the yard is equally as important to the quilt, since the story begins at the yard and ends at the very same place. In addition. the yard symbolizes a place of solitude and reflection. Symbolically, the yard presents the difficulties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Technology Essay Technology In the following paper I am going to attempt to discuss the hindering effects of technology. How technology affects the laziness of our children, desensitizes our otherwise compassionate human race, and may eventually lead us to our doom. Also in this paper I will attempt to discuss some benefits of modern technology as relating to family and communal prosperity. Since the invention of Eli Whitneys cotton gin back in the 1800s men have had their brains full steam ahead on the idea of technology and its advancement into our everyday lives. Leading us up to the present day where we can have a hot cooked neucro meal at the push of the button. Our music no longer has to be cranked by hand, in fact our latest CD players can hold ... For example, President Roosevelt used to have fire side chats on the radio during the trying times of World War II. TV was a great advancement as far as putting the voices of power, such as the president, with their faces. TVs were also used to bring the family together for a late night show. In todays world all that seems to be on the popular radio stations is slang and a lot of bleeping. As for TV, I cant seem to get that footage of the World Trade Towers going down. Over and over again they show those clips, not thinking of the thousands of souls floating away at that very same moment. Children see this stuff and think nothing about the chaos. Even their cartoon characters have huge bombs, and kill each other. Now I don t know about you but I never saw Mickey kicking Donald s ass all over the TV when I was growing up. These kinds of shows have led to hours of programmable crap we feed to our children each day. Still the communication benefits are there, but the desensitizing danger and loss of compassion in our children is a real threat. Recently weve developed a new technology, quite a nifty gadget if you ask me. This one is called the computer and started off as one hell of a calculator, designed for speedy math. So computers made math go a bit easier, what else could this little box do? Now that they are in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Death Of Death And Death Both Socrates and Lucretius have similar outlooks on death, but the reasoning as to why they believe death should not be feared are completely different. Socrates states that death is not dreadful because we do not know what is ahead of us and through this concept arises a term called reincarnation. Lucretius, on the other hand, says that the souldoes not go anywhere when we die and that everything is materialistic. He goes on to say that death does nothing to us because we once started with nothing. Although both these philosophers have different takes on how death should be perceived, they both are reassuring us that death is not something to be afraid of. To begin with, Socrates states that death is not bad. He thinks that we should not fear death because we do not know what awaits us or what is coming therefore there is no reason for us to feel scared. Socrates, himself, says all these things while he knows he is about to die so it makes the audience feel a sense of security because usually people who know they are going to die do not handle it in a calm and collected manner. At the same time, because he has not experienced death yet, Lucretius may oppose his opinions because Socrates does not actually know what awaits him after he dies. Lucretius would argue and say that the soul does not move forward and that we as humans are no longer moving forward after death. Socrates states Then before we began to see or hear or otherwise perceive, we must have possessed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Overpopulation Is A Major Challenge That Humans Face Today Overpopulation is a major challenge that humans face today. The human population is close to 8 billion, and at our current birthrate, we are adding nearly one billion more people every 12 years. Issues such as dependence of natural resources, degradation of the environment, poverty, and unemployment, are root causes of overpopulation. Though opponents of this theory, such as Erle C. Ellis uses archeological records, and the history of human evolution to argue against overpopulation. Robert Walker, on the other hand, disagrees. He uses scientific explanation to anticipate that all living beings on earth will are under torment as they die off due to: erosion of natural resources, mainly food, and water. Next, Joel Kotkin claims that an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many years later, they extracted nutrients from the species by cooking them, and used different woods for enhanced hunting outcomes. Ellis points out that these innovations are still being used before since the last ice age ended. So, if hunter gatherers were, therefore, successful worldwide at that time, human innovation will adapt. Ellis further argues that, the planet s carrying capacity of hunter gatherers was not any more than 100 million. Without their stone tools, he argues, the amount would be a lot less. The creation of agriculture, eventually empowered a higher population growth, which needed more land use. Although the population is much greater now, approximately 7.2 billion, society has adapted with innovation. In contrast to a UN assessment, Ellis believes that a peak population is sustainable if obligatory investments are finalizing in the substructure and conducive trade, supplemented with anti scarceness and food security strategies. , For instance, Chinese agriculture, shows that population growth will increase efficiency; this is because the relationship between population and economic wealth displays an increase of productivity. As the population rises, so does the productivity that matches the stock of food available, this is due to Anthropocene. Anthropocene suggests that people essentially live in human dominated environments, which is being changed for our livelihood. Society is transformed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The LAPD Incident Analysis Cronkhite discussed the King incident in depth and how the failures of the Loa Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and its leaders to institutionalize some of the contextual themes led to the beating of Rodney King (Cronkhite, 2013). This incident led to an independent investigation by what was known as the Christopher Commission (Cronkhite, 2013). Cronkhite (2013) discussed some of the issues found by the commission and how the failure to use some of the concepts contributed to the incident. Even after the King incident, administrators failed to investigate complaints and wide spread corruption within the department (Knowland Nebbia, 2000). Prior to joining the CRASH unit, Perez was an ex Marine, veteran police officer who had been squad leader of his academy class (Young, 2004). From the perspective of the client centered theme, the administration did nothing to investigate complaints from citizens. • 11. Copernicus Influence On Religion The Religious aspects that life seemed to revolve around during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries made a large impression on the way scientists not only distributed their information, but the way it was written down and explained. During the time period the Church held an extraordinary amount of power, easily outweighing any mere scientist who claimed the seemingly impossible notion that the sun, not the earth, was in the center of the universe. Should someone inadvertently challenge this immense authority, death was not simply a threat, it was an absolute promise. This absolute giant of a power that was the church, loomed over many scientists such as Copernicus acknowledged this power by writing things such as can readily hold slanders from biting. It is interesting to see that these sports teams are successful business yet they are still utilizing taxpayer funds to grow and expand in unnecessary ways. It was stated that 29 of the 32 NFL stadiums have enjoyed billions of dollars in public funding. This could potentially create faulty/misleading data. I am unsure the purpose of finding information about the economic status as well as the unemployment rates of these cities because it may simply be a reflection of the unemployment rates as well as the economic status of the country. The true issue I found within the course of my research is the fact that these different stadiums are now competing with one another truly leads to a higher cost for us. In a sense, there is an essence of inequality simply because the players and owners are the ones that receive the profits earned from the stadiums. With limited knowledge of the NFL or even puplic policy, I was required to do an extensive research to truly understand the scope of the issue at hand. The true relevance of these publically funded stadiums to the NFL is the fact that there is a huge reliance on regular ticket sales to generate revenue. The reality is that these individual sports teams do not generate much economic business. It has been shown that an average sports team in 1994 only makes about 64 million dollars. Educational psychology has produced a vast array of theory and research that can be applied to educational settings to address problems that may occur. This essay will discuss how helpful, or not so helpful, research and theory has been in dealing with problems found in schools such as morality and understanding how children learn in order to create a rounded curriculum. There is support for this idea as according to Piaget practice on a task that you are not biologically ready for should not improve performance until sufficiently mature. Research supports this argument as it has been found that children aged 10 and 13 did not improve on formal operational tasks when tutored, but 17 years olds did (Danner Day, 1977) as Piaget s theory would expect. Therefore, the concept of readiness may be helpful in understanding why children may not show improvement on challenging tasks even with tutoring. If this is the case then teachers should revise the material they are teaching to make sure their age group is biologically ready to interpret the material. On the other hand, there is research that also contradicts the idea that a child has to be biologically ready to be able to learn something. Bryant and Trabasso (1971) showed that children in the pre operational stage could be trained to solve some logical tasks which, according to Piaget s theory they should not be able to do. Instead, they argued that children s failure was due to memory restrictions and not an absence of logical thinking that appears in the operational stage. They showed that when given suitable training 4 year olds showed good performance on these tasks. They then suggested that it is practice and not readiness that matters when children are learning new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Macbeth was so focused on becoming king that he wanted to eliminate any threat that came his way. The three witches had warned him to watch out for Macduff, so Macbeth decided to kill him. Not knowing that Macduff had fled to England with Malcolm, Macbeth sent hired servents to go kill Macduff. When they realized that Macduff was not there, they decided to kill his family instead to prove the point that Macbeth is not afraid of Macduff. In the play, Macbeth is not present during the murder of Macduff s family but in the movie he is. This was probably the biggest difference between the Macduff family murder in both versions of the story. Another big difference was that in the play when Ross told Macduff that his family had been viciously slaughtered, Macduff did not seem phased at all. He was not very upset, just a little mad. In the movie however, Macduff nearly dies himself when he hears the news that his family had been killed. They made it this way in the movie to make it more dramatic and suspensful to watch. Another major difference in this scene is that in the play, the son of Lady Macduff says Thou liest, thou shag haired villian! (Macbeth 4.2.80). After he yells this at the murderer, the murderer stabs him to death. In the movie, the son never says this and it never shows him getting stabbed. The movie did this to give the audience a chance to envision what the murder was like on their own. Events like Aymo s death and Bonello s cowardice definitely influenced Henry, but bigger events like the killing of the sergeant was what really changed Henry the most. • 32. College Sports Essay Pay Up The world of sports has grown larger than life over the past century, especially in college. Being a collegiate athlete is, without question, the hardest athletic profession in the world. Not only are students devoted to their sport, which requires an obscene amount of time of preparation, but they are also devoted to their school work. And the award they receive for their hard work? Of course there are the great memories, friendships made, free education , or national championships, but are theses students receiving their fair share? Should college athletes be paid? It is a question that has been asked, but never truly answered. College athletes should be paid for their work. I even have the perfect system to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only day off is Sunday. This seems a little far fetched for being college students. Oh, I forgot to mention the pay; $0. Student athletes have a more demanding job, mentally and physically, yet they have little to show for it. This isn t an argument that proposes colligate athletes should be paid just because they work hard. The reasoning extends far beyond their work ethics. First of all, colligate athletics is a billion dollar industry. On average, 44,367 fans attend a college football game. Imagine that a university such as Ohio State holds 7 games at Ohio Stadium as it did in 2003. 105.000+ fans can occupy Ohio Stadium at one time. At the least, one may find a ticket for $50, if they are lucky. During one Ohio State football game, at least $5.25 million will be made. This is just one source of revenue the university receives. Not to mention, merchandise, concessions, and BSC appearances. All are major contributors to the lucrative business of college athletics. From the millions of dollars generated from ticket sales to the millions of dollars generated from major tournament bids, colligate athletes don t receive any of this money, which is ironic considering the fact that they are the reason that most of this money is being made. Why shouldn t they be rewarded with a share of the billion dollar a year industry that they are so much a part of? Why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Success Of The Club In 2005, a shocking news hit the city of Manchester, home of the EPL s most successful club with a history of more than a hundred years: Manchester United. Their beloved club was to be acquired by an American business tycoon, Malcolm Glazer. What concerned the fans even more was the fact that most of the capital used by Glazer to purchase the team was debt and that he would load ВЈ525million of debt on to the club itself. This was problematic because it meant that money otherwise could be used to acquire top talents, improve training facilities, or towards the club s CSR activities would be used to pay back Glazer s debt. Ever since Glazer loaded the club with ВЈ525million debt, over ВЈ680million has gone towards servicing the debt, including interest fees, bank charges, and debt repayment as of May 2014. In other words, Man Utd spent more on servicing Glazer s debt than it did on strengthening its squad. Although Man Utd won five Premier League titles, three league cups, and a Champions League under Glazer s ownership, underinvestment eventually led to aging squad and failure to find suitable replacements. As a result, in 2013/2014 season, Man Utd finished the season in 7th place, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1990/1991 season while its neighbor, Manchester City, won the title. While Man Utd was suffering from severely deteriorated financial situation, Man City, under the ownership of an Arabian prince, Sheikh Mansour, invested heavily not only to acquiring top players, but also to building a new stadium, training facilities, and even to the community by subway construction and new homes. The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to 8.7 million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s Species Still Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of life (What is Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger scale such as genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain species, it s imperative to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many people do not recognize the various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main reason life is sustainable. Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and ecosystem. It is the framework upon which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us with food resources, such as fruits and grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans are dependent on biodiversity for cultural, economic and environmental stability. For example, farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops, which allows for a greater supply of food and work. The economic value of biodiversity stems from its production of many everyday essentials such as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. It is no secret that the industry, after all, is bigger than the company alone and in fact is critical to the economies of at least four nations. (Campbell 127) DeBeers has taken steps to ensure that some of their diamonds were conflict free with the demand for action so apparent.
