Introduction: In this particular task of the unit I will describe the internal and external finance sources
for a particular selected business. In this task I will use the same company as I did before in the
previous part of the unit. The name of the company is : Media Markt. In this task we will get to know
where money actually comes from to actually create such a big company which is well known of its
electronic products.
What are the main ways in which the Business can access its financial resources?
In this particular task I m using the company: Mediamarkt. The business can access its financial
resources in two ways: * From ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
External Sources :
The External sources are also in other words Sources from the outside. Media Markt made use of
different kind of external sources to expand their business. By for example, Building societies,
Leasing, Venture Capitalists, and Friends or Family.
Media Markt Building Societies:
As the company built societies outside of the company it is a good advantage fort hem, becayse
building societies are also able to offer loans, business accounts, commercial mortgages and overdraft
facillities based on the business plan of Media markt.
Media Markt Leasing a business:
For Media Markt Leasing means that resources can be used by the business while they are being paid
for to a finance company. Until the last payment is made on the agreement, the goods are not owned
by the business, and if payments are not made the finance company can take them back.
Media Markt using Venture Capitalists:
These are professionals that invest a upcoming new business such as Media Markt in which they also
did, however they do that usually in a return for a share in the ownership.
Friends and Family:
The owner of Media Markt had its own savings also but he wanted to expand Media Markt as a
business that is the reason he also used the money of his friends and family in return for a share in the
company. He can also lend money from a bank but that is often a

Needs of a Veteran with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Needs of a Veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Should veterans be able to live on their own with post traumatic stress disorder? Going from living a
great life with nothing wrong to being diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, also known as
PTSD, is a life changing event for anyone, but should veterans be treated differently from everyone
else? Life of Ted Olsen was normal before he was knocked unconscious by a massive garage door that
jumped a track on base and crashed down on his head and diagnosed with post traumatic stress
disorder. After several surgeries and recovery, Ted was forced to leave the Navy, which then gave him
a great abundance of free time. Ted would go outside to get fresh air every once in a while, but mainly
he stayed in the house. Well, that was until Ted met his new neighbors AJ and Genie Sanders, as well
as gaining a new hobby. Ted figured that his new hobby was the solution to releasing all of his
emotions, so he stops taking his prescribed medicine. Soon, Ted began to daze off, hear voices,
vandalize, and threaten his neighbors. AJ and Genie set up security cameras outside their house and
caught Ted vandalizing their car. Ted was sent to jail where he proceeded to go untreated, until he was
transferred Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg. After weeks of therapy and being treated for post
traumatic stress disorder, they referred Ted to the Poplar Springs Hospital. When all evaluations were
done and he was doing better, Ted was

The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The Nature of Solitude in Chopin s Novel, The Awakening
The name of the piece was something else, but she called it Solitude. When she heard it there came
before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was
naked. His attitude was one of hopeless resignation as he looked toward a distant bird winging its
flight away from him. (47)
All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. A bird with a broken wing
was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling disabled down, down to the water...when she
was there beside the sea, absolutely alone, she cast the unpleasant, pricking garments from her, and for
the first time in her life she stood naked in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal
lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects
hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken
to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this
passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for
Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this
admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in
many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly
resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This
passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the
novel.
The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight
and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The
figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s]
down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna

Philosophical Schools Of Thought And Methods Of Reasoning...
Philosophy Summative Assignment Discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of
reasoning relevant to the practice of chiropractic
Introduction
This assignment will discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of reasoning
relevant to the practice of chiropractic. It is relevant to first understanding the meaning of chiropractic,
philosophy and its branches. The main schools of thought; vitalism, holism and naturalism to name a
few, will be discussed and related to the practice of chiropractic.
Chiropractic (Greek kheir, hand, and praktikos, practitioner) is defined as the science of treating
human ailments by adjustment of the spine Bradbury, P. (1957). It is grounded in the principle that the

The questions above can be answered by relating to the schools of thought, from connecting these
thoughts to the questions imposed, philosophy of chiropractic will evolve.
A Brief History
Throughout its short life time, Chiropractic has been divided by its internal factors; chiropractors
themselves. Chiropractic has been split for the last 100 years into at least two metaphysical camps
because of the inability to have honest, intellectual and critical debate over philosophical issues
(Coulter, 2000); innatists and rationalists. Innatists held their belief in vitalism. Opposing this are the
rationalists, who choose to reject the innate and universal intelligence. It is possible that this conflict
arose due to D.D. Palmer s confusion about philosophy and how it imposes chiropractic (Coulter, I.D.
1999). It is likely early happenings resulted in chiropractic defending its profession with chiropractic
philosophy rather than clarifying the nature of the profession by teaching philosophy of chiropractic .
This conflict had immediate impact on practice. Two types of chiropractors; straights, claiming true
chiropractic philosophy , practicing on the spine only, and mixers; who embraced a wider range of
practice, treating the whole body (Coulter, I.D. 1999). The concept of innate intelligence found itself
wedged between the split, embraced by the innatists, and persistent of dogma for the rationalists.

The Yield Spread Of A Corporate Bond And A Comparable...
2. Literature review
The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond and a comparable
government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield spreads were considered to be mainly
driven by expected default losses on corporate bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al,
2015). However, Merton (1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity
volatility, liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also significant
factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013; Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter
Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001).
2.1 Equity Volatility
One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant of the yield spread
was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific equity volatility on the stock market.
Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship between equity volatility and the yield spread.
According to Merton (1974), a short put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate
bond issued by that company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a
positive relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012).
Radier et al (2015); Hibbert et al (2011); Campbell Taksler (2004) all find evidence supporting Merton
(1974) s prediction of a positive relationship. Radier et al (2015) is the only one of these studies

A Resource Based Analysis of Starbucks
A Resource Based Analysis of Starbucks
The current economic situation has required that organizations rethink the way that they do business.
With people losing jobs and salaries being cut, people are spending money on essentials and opting
less and less to spend on the extras. Groceries, rent, housing, transportation, education are of value

organization that banks on Americans need to feed their self focused desires is Starbucks Coffee.

Omnivore s Dilemma Summary
The Omnivore s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, by Michael Pollan, is about one man s
journey through the food production system and how he arrives at the conclusion that although
hunting and gathering may be an excellent means to keep oneself healthy, it is really up to the
individual as to what they are willing to put in their body. Pollan begins section 1 ( Industrial Corn )
by analyzing how far the practice of shopping for groceries at the supermarket has taken modern
society from the natural environment the food is (presumably) gathered from. He cites the florescent
lighting, comparing it to the less harsh rays of the sun. From here, Pollan relates the story of a corn
farmer from Iowa, George Naylor, to expound upon the impact

Bigger Than A Hamburger, By Ella Baker
In 1960 Ella Baker delivered a speech entitled Bigger than a Hamburger to what would come to be the
Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). In this speech she argued to students who had
been involved in the sit ins that what they were fighting for was bigger than a hamburger and
desegregating a lunch counter, but struggling for equality in all its forms. In a similar way, so too has
the fight for quality education been bigger than a classroom. Ella Baker also argued that, through the
process of education, black people would be accepted in the American culture and they would be
accorded their rights in proportion to the degree to which they qualified as being persons of learning
and culture. This is a testament to the over 200 year tradition within the black community of viewing
education as inseparable with the concepts of freedom and citizenship. During slavery anyone found
to be assembling in an effort to teach slaves to read and write received corporal punishment.
Consequently, throughout Reconstruction education was pursued with a vengeance. Freedmen s

local school system. So black residents double taxed themselves in order to pay for these schools.

While actors can make an audience feel many different emotions with their work, the viewers fail to

feelings of emotional highs and lows therefore no two days were the same for her. Along with this
disorder she suffered from drug addiction and alcoholism. After being diagnosed and developing these
addictions Carrie never hid from her problems, instead she spoke openly about her experiences. She

Postcards From the Edge in which she opens up about her time spent in rehab. This book told stories
not only about her mental health and addictions but also the struggle she had with her body image.
Some people believe that Carrie s addictions were nothing to proud and open about. However, she was
able to help thousands by proving that even someone famous could struggle with mental health issues.
Fisher used her experiences with such serious issues to spread word and educate people on the

I don not thing that SDHD diagnoses in children is a problem. I do thing that the cause of this rise in
ADHD diagnosis is the psychological, social and perpetually dynamic condition of the world today.

Taiwan share not just the same language and culture, but a lot of our Taiwanese suppliers are already

Still, Acer faces tough competition in China. Lenovo, a local mainland brand, dominates with about
one third of the market.
Wang believes Acer is well positioned to overtake Lenovo and other local mainland firms to become
the leader in PC sales in
China. Shih believes Acer will have an advantage compared to local PC makers because Acer is more
global. At the same time,
Shih is convinced his company will be able to compete with betterknown global companies that are
entering China because Acer is more local than they are. Acer s international identity gives the
company access to advanced business practices, technology, and economies of scale that companies
like Lenovo do not have. We have more technology. . . . We have more global exposure. . . . We have

Shih admits that sales of Acer s desktop PCs in China have developed more slowly than he expected.
He attributes this to
Acer s poor brand recognition in the mainland. However, Shih made a strategic bet that the company s
notebook computers would help Acer establish a quality name and high end image.

Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes
Don Quixote
The Ballet performance Don Quixote is based on the worldwide known novel Don Quixote de la

choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now days
there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has adopted this
performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin American taste
with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the Fort Lauderdale
Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don Quixote in three main
acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio, an impoverished barber
young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a Gamache. Gamache is a rich
old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and
Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri from her father and Gamache. Finally they
Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don Quixote and Sancho, but Gamache and Lorenzo are

usually matched with a head cloth and a blouse. The Chitenje has many uses apart from dressing, it
can used as a baby carrier, apron, and table cloth.
Because predominately Malawi is a Christian country many women dress up on Sundays wearing
their finest chitenje s if a person can afford to get the chitenje sewed by a tailor into an outfit then it is
considered a very expensive outfit.
Men have no particular way of dressing apart from jeans and t shirts. Some men wear cultural outfits
like the chitenje s sewed into an outfit or some wear robes for religious beliefs e.g. Muslim tribes.
1.3. WAY OF LIFE
Malawi is an agricultural economy, they rely heavily on growing and harvesting their own food. In
urban areas where land is not as vast, people still have gardens in their back yards to grow their own
vegetables or fruits. So the weather plays a major role in the economy of Malawi.
Families build houses close together in a small compound with separate, eating and storage of
harvested corn.

2. The author is a young ethnographer researching teenagers (p.193). What difference does our
knowledge of her age and other personal details make to the account?
Ethnographic research implies that researcher is obtaining the data by observing researched people in
their common environment and with common circumstances (Silverman, 2010). It has been
discovered that this style of research requires trustful relationships between researcher and the
researched, especially when the ethnography is made in the closed settings and access to researcher is
granted from the head. In analyzed study permission was acquired exactly in this way, and Russell
described a large number of problems related to establishment of trust and balancing between two
sides: teachers and students. Cassell and Symon (2004) argue that gathering information in case of no
trust in ethnographic research might be difficult. To prove that they provide an example of Westley
(1970) study. In this research the author experienced a large number of obstacles, such as
unwillingness to give an interview during his fieldwork in police organization in USA.
All noted above directly relates to the question, because identity of the researcher is intricately linked
to the problem of trust establishment. The fact, that the author at the time of fieldwork was much
younger than teaching

Mandala In The Mortal Instruments
Clarissa Fairchild A mandala is a circular visual meditation tool that is primarily used in Hindu and
Buddhist culture. The word mandala comes from the Sanskrit and means circle. The center of a
mandala is always connected to its circumference and its circumference is tied to the center. This
character analysis is about the protagonist of the very well known dramatic/fantasy novel, The Mortal
instruments: City of Bones, written by Cassandra Clare, and the character is Clarissa Fairchild, or
Clary for short. The novel is set in present day New York, and follows a 16 year old girl, whose life

Clary s friends, the ones she has known forever, are also the people she loves I only loved three,

Narrative Essay On Checkouts
Just like in the story Checkouts , I too have had a missed opportunity before that I didn t take. I could
have reunited with a very old friend of mine that I hadn t seen in forever. Her name was Aisha; we had
used to go to summer camp together until she decided to stop going. It left me devastated because she
was my best friend there and I only got to see her over sumer not like my other friends at school. Then
since she wasn t there that year at camp I then realized I had to make some new friends on my own.
With hope that maybe she would come back one week, so that we could hang out with each other

for the better that I didn t contact her, but it still leaves me in regret that I didn t. We could have started
hanging out again like we used to, but I was to much of a chicken to say anything to her. Now we don
t have any contact whatsoever except for social media and things like that, but still she doesn t know
who I am anymore. I don t think it was better in the long run because if I would have had the guts to
talk to her, we would could have probably still been hanging out today. I was to much of a chicken

short story Checkouts is that the girl and the bagger never had the guts to talk to each other. They were
both afraid that the other person didn t like them back. This somewhat related to me because either
Aisha or me had the guts to ever get in contact with each other, so now we don t talk to each other at

Da Vinci Code Contradictions
In The Da Vinci Code, a controversial novel about a quest for the real Holy Grail, Dan Brown s
historical claims are grounded in many ideas that have been deemed heretical by the Church. The
controversy in Brown s novel is often based on religious beliefs that are subject to opinions, but
professional logicians and theologians have studied Brown s work to see if the objective components
of his writing are logical and consistent. The search for logic includes questions such as whether
Brown s claims make sense as they stand by themselves or not, and if the claims contradict each other.
While much of Brown s writing is carefully combined into a well written novel, readers can find a few
contradictions within Brown s logical sequence. These contradictory ideas can undermine the novel s
overlying theme and leave readers yearning to further research the validity and probability of the rest
of Brown s claims. One of the most significant themes in Brown s novel is uncovering hidden
meaning in works of art by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci. Brown uses three of Da Vinci s most well
known works of art The Vitruvian Man, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper as realistic pieces of
evidence to ground the probability of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Da Vinci is portrayed as a mysterious man with many obscure personality traits and
characteristics. It is due to Da Vinci s success as a painter that he gains worldwide fame, and it is in
these world famous paintings that he, according to Brown, hides pagan symbols about the real Holy
Grail. This may come across as shocking to most Christians, yet Brown claims Da Vinci held a
reputation of practicing spiritual hypocrisy. If Da Vinci had a reputation of incorporating heretical
elements into his Christian artwork, then it would make little sense that he found such great success
because the Church targeted heretics in the

History of Physical Education Essay
Physical education is defined nowadays as a systematic instruction in sports, exercises, and hygiene
given as part of a school or college program (Park). When most people think of the term physical
education they think of it as a broad, inclusive term comprising the fields of physical education, health
education, safety education, athletics, recreation, dance education, kinesiology and so on (Zeigler 1). It
may sometimes be referred to as physical training or gym class and mainly is taught in grades
kindergarten all to the way up to your senior year in high school in the United States. The history of
physical education dates way back to the Greek and Roman times and has slowly evolved into what it

So things such as running, jumping, swimming, wrestling and boxing were all part of the Roman
education system and were used for military preparation as well. There were also sporting events that
the Roman Empire put on in honor of the gods they worshipped similar to that of the Greeks
(Siedentop 24 25).
Back in those days of the Greek and Roman women were not able to participate in physical education
and sport to the same degree as men, so they never had the same chances that men did. Greeks would
never let women partake in physical education, but the Romans were not quite as harsh letting them
occasionally do dancing or light exercise. Once the fall of the Roman Empire happened it became
what was known as the dark ages for physical education (Siedentop 25). It was a period of 1,000 years
in which physical activity, sport, and fitness diminished in importance amid political and economic
chaos (Siedentop 25).
The Roman and the Greek civilizations were a great influence on the European culture and
philosophies. Europeans then eventually came to settle in America (Siedentop 24). This meant that
early ideas and perspective on physical education in the United States were based on European
traditions and beliefs which were based on the Roman and Greek culture.
Physical education did not really start to make a comeback until the seventeenth and eighteenth
century. This is around the time when the European settlers were migrating

Dante Di Gregorio, Douglas E Thomas, Fernán González de Castilla. International Journal of

Abstract (Summary)
We analyze how competitive dynamics within the Mexican retail sector have shifted following the
entrance and ascendance of Wal Mart, and how Mexican retailers have responded individually and
collectively to Wal Mart s dominance. We discuss implications for strategic management and
international business research as well as for managers of emerging market firms that face dominant
foreign competitors. Within fifteen years of entering Mexico, Wal Mart has become the dominant ...

To analyze these competitive interactions, we draw on the competitive dynamics stream of research
within strategic management (e.g., Grimm Smith, 1997; Smith, Ferrier Ndofor, 2001; Ketchen, Snow
Hoover, 2004). We show how competitive dynamics have evolved in the Mexican retail industry
following the entrance and dominance of Wal Mart. We conclude with a discussion of the implications
for both theory and practice.
1. Competitive Dynamics between Dominant Multinationals and Emerging Market Firms
Emerging economies are generally characterized by a rapid pace of economic growth, increasing
liberalization of trade and investment regimes, and economic restructuring (Hoskisson et al, 2000).
Mexico, for instance, maintained high trade barriers and imposed strict limitations on foreign
investment through the mid 1980s. From the point at which Mexico joined the General Agreement on
Tariffs and Trade in 1986 through the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement
with Canada and the United States in 1994 and a broad range of similar agreements with other
countries, Mexican firms became increasingly exposed to competitive pressures from foreign firms in
the form of imported products as well as foreign owned operations in Mexico. In this respect, the
Mexican experience is similar to that of emerging economies throughout Latin America (which also

Martin Luther King Just Law Analysis
Justice is considered a consequence for an acted committed by another, that benefits the most amount
of people. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as
he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be
laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He
specifically touches upon justice and injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that
degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel
less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person
s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a
wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint.
Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This
double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an
action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then
it is justifiable to punish them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly
punish them for it? These injustices in society are the responsibility of the people, supported by
inquiry by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham Jail.

This study will examine the negative consequences of sharp drop of crude oil price on the Nigerian
economy. The descriptive study will use secondary data from the Nigerian Central Bank (CBN) and
the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to conduct the study and examine whether over dependency
on crude oil sector production and export is detrimental and hurting production and exportation of
other sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and service sectors. The variables for this study
therefore are the production and exportation data of crude oil, agriculture, service and manufacturing.
The data will be sort and obtained from the CBN and backed up with the IMF data. Having
conceptualized the theory of the study in the previous paper (week one assignment), effort will be
made in this paper to merge these conceptual elements (theory and empirical data) together. This paper
will focus more on how to measure and ensure the validity of the study, including the data collection,
data analysis and overall methodology, design and even research findings. However, we are going to

Essay About Sey Vanu
A fairytale for the young and the young of mind
Once upon a time a little girl lived in a small village on an island in the middle of a vast, vast ocean.
Her name was Sey Tu. Sey Tu was known on the island for her beautiful black hair and her inquisitive
mind. But most of all she was known as the girl with the unusual large feet.
Sey Tu lived in a small house with her father, mother, grandmother and her brother Vanu. The house
was located at the edge of the small village, near the beach. In the garden there were large palm trees
that would wave softly in the wind. The trees brought shade at day time and they waved in some cool

Grandmother burst out in tears after Sey Tu circled the island in half an hour. Sey Tu thought that she
had made her grandmother proud, and that these were happy tears. But no, these tears were the saddest
tears ever.
So it is happening , said grandmother and Sey Tu asked her what was happening.
Well , said grandmother, you know that we live on a small island in the middle of a vast ocean. The
ocean separates us from other islands . Yes , said Sey Tu, like the island of auntie, it takes us a whole
day to sail there .
Grandmother started explaining that on the world were many islands, even continents. That in all these
places other humans live, 7 billion of them. This number didn t mean anything to Sey Tu, who could

Grandmother continued to talk, and told about factories, airplanes, cars, trains and busses. About

Analysis Of Richard Rodriguez s A Stranger And Strange...
Comparative Analysis
Over the past month, we have been studying the concept of reading and writing in different
communities. To assess this, we have read two different texts. Richard Rodriguez s the achievement of
desire , from his autobiography Hunger of Memory ; and Lucille McCarthy s A Stranger in Strange
Lands: A College Student Writing across the Curriculum from Research in the Teaching of English .
Both answer key questions regarding what it takes to become a great reader and writer, however, from
the reading that I have done, each one only answers one part of the question. Rodriguez s main focus
is in the aspect of reading, whereas McCarthy mainly focuses on the writing portion. Both do a decent
job of analyzing and putting forth a view of how they believe a person can best perform in these
environments. This then allows us to use their concepts and create our own version, based on their
points of view. But why should we care? Most people at this level of academia will have developed a
system of writing that works for them, and will have a difficult time breaking from it if they re process
doesn t meet the criteria that Rodriguez, and McCarthy put forth. The reason it s so important is
because of implications these ideas have. Both authors put forth concepts that are indirectly related to
one another and that are highly beneficial to all who will apply them. They will force you to conform

This documentary fails to show the Armed resistance aspect of the African American Freedom

how important the role of armed resistance was in the African American freedom struggle. It
unsuccessfully shows how armed resistance made the Civil Rights Movement possible and protected

A common alternative to the live attenuated vaccinations are inactivated, or killed, vaccines.
Inactivated vaccines are produced by growing the virus in a medium and then inactivating it with heat

Going from living a great life with nothing wrong to being diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, also known as PTSD, is a life changing event for anyone, but should veterans be treated differently from everyone else? Life of Ted Olsen was normal before he was knocked unconscious by a massive garage door that jumped a track on base and crashed down on his head and diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. After several surgeries and recovery, Ted was forced to leave the Navy, which then gave him a great abundance of free time. Ted would go outside to get fresh air every once in a while, but mainly he stayed in the house. Well, that was until Ted met his new neighbors AJ and Genie Sanders, as well as gaining a new hobby. Ted figured that his new hobby was the solution to releasing all of his emotions, so he stops taking his prescribed medicine. Soon, Ted began to daze off, hear voices, vandalize, and threaten his neighbors. AJ and Genie set up security cameras outside their house and caught Ted vandalizing their car. Ted was sent to jail where he proceeded to go untreated, until he was transferred Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg. After weeks of therapy and being treated for post traumatic stress disorder, they referred Ted to the Poplar Springs Hospital. When all evaluations were done and he was doing better, Ted was ... When she heard it there came before her imagination the figure of a man standing beside a desolate rock on the seashore. He was naked. His attitude was one of hopeless resignation as he looked toward a distant bird winging its flight away from him. (47) All along the white beach, up and down, there was no living thing in sight. A bird with a broken wing was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling disabled down, down to the water...when she was there beside the sea, absolutely alone, she cast the unpleasant, pricking garments from her, and for the first time in her life she stood naked in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word desolate is used to describe the rock, offering up connotations of a barren, dismal lifelessness. The figure of the man is naked, or exposed and defenseless. His demeanor reflects hopeless resignation as he views a distant bird winging away from him. Here resignation can be taken to mean an unresisting acceptance of something as inescapable and as a surrender. Looking at this passage in this light, I cannot help but connect it with Robert. After finally vocalizing his love for Edna, Robert is in a way naked, free of the pretenses of socially conscious manners. Following this admission, however, Robert leaves off waiting for Edna, gives up on fulfilling his love, due, I think, in many ways to the social consequences that this would surely bring. Thus Robert too is hopelessly resigned to social moires which influence him to let his forbidden love wing away from him. This passage then foreshadows both Robert s resignation and Edna s own experience at the end of the novel. The second passage repeats several of the same images. On the beach there is no living thing in sight and Edna is absolutely alone. Thus the desolation and solitude from the first passage reappear. The figure of the bird is also depicted again, only in this instance the bird has a broken wing and reel[s] down, disabled towards the water, closer to the figure of Edna ... Philosophy Summative Assignment Discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of reasoning relevant to the practice of chiropractic Introduction This assignment will discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of reasoning relevant to the practice of chiropractic. It is relevant to first understanding the meaning of chiropractic, philosophy and its branches. The main schools of thought; vitalism, holism and naturalism to name a few, will be discussed and related to the practice of chiropractic. The questions above can be answered by relating to the schools of thought, from connecting these thoughts to the questions imposed, philosophy of chiropractic will evolve. A Brief History Throughout its short life time, Chiropractic has been divided by its internal factors; chiropractors themselves. Chiropractic has been split for the last 100 years into at least two metaphysical camps because of the inability to have honest, intellectual and critical debate over philosophical issues (Coulter, 2000); innatists and rationalists. Innatists held their belief in vitalism. Opposing this are the rationalists, who choose to reject the innate and universal intelligence. It is possible that this conflict arose due to D.D. Palmer s confusion about philosophy and how it imposes chiropractic (Coulter, I.D. 1999). It is likely early happenings resulted in chiropractic defending its profession with chiropractic philosophy rather than clarifying the nature of the profession by teaching philosophy of chiropractic . This conflict had immediate impact on practice. Two types of chiropractors; straights, claiming true chiropractic philosophy , practicing on the spine only, and mixers; who embraced a wider range of practice, treating the whole body (Coulter, I.D. 1999). The concept of innate intelligence found itself wedged between the split, embraced by the innatists, and persistent of dogma for the rationalists. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Yield Spread Of A Corporate Bond And A Comparable... 2. Literature review The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond and a comparable government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield spreads were considered to be mainly driven by expected default losses on corporate bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al, 2015). However, Merton (1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity volatility, liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also significant factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013; Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001). 2.1 Equity Volatility One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant of the yield spread was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific equity volatility on the stock market. Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship between equity volatility and the yield spread. According to Merton (1974), a short put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate bond issued by that company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a positive relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012). Radier et al (2015); Hibbert et al (2011); Campbell Taksler (2004) all find evidence supporting Merton (1974) s prediction of a positive relationship. In a similar way, so too has the fight for quality education been bigger than a classroom. Ella Baker also argued that, through the process of education, black people would be accepted in the American culture and they would be accorded their rights in proportion to the degree to which they qualified as being persons of learning and culture. This is a testament to the over 200 year tradition within the black community of viewing education as inseparable with the concepts of freedom and citizenship. • 26. Da Vinci Code Contradictions In The Da Vinci Code, a controversial novel about a quest for the real Holy Grail, Dan Brown s historical claims are grounded in many ideas that have been deemed heretical by the Church. The controversy in Brown s novel is often based on religious beliefs that are subject to opinions, but professional logicians and theologians have studied Brown s work to see if the objective components of his writing are logical and consistent. The search for logic includes questions such as whether Brown s claims make sense as they stand by themselves or not, and if the claims contradict each other. While much of Brown s writing is carefully combined into a well written novel, readers can find a few contradictions within Brown s logical sequence. These contradictory ideas can undermine the novel s overlying theme and leave readers yearning to further research the validity and probability of the rest of Brown s claims. One of the most significant themes in Brown s novel is uncovering hidden meaning in works of art by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci. Brown uses three of Da Vinci s most well known works of art The Vitruvian Man, the Mona Lisa, and The Last Supper as realistic pieces of evidence to ground the probability of his ... This may come across as shocking to most Christians, yet Brown claims Da Vinci held a reputation of practicing spiritual hypocrisy. When most people think of the term physical education they think of it as a broad, inclusive term comprising the fields of physical education, health education, safety education, athletics, recreation, dance education, kinesiology and so on (Zeigler 1). It may sometimes be referred to as physical training or gym class and mainly is taught in grades kindergarten all to the way up to your senior year in high school in the United States. So things such as running, jumping, swimming, wrestling and boxing were all part of the Roman education system and were used for military preparation as well. There were also sporting events that the Roman Empire put on in honor of the gods they worshipped similar to that of the Greeks (Siedentop 24 25). Back in those days of the Greek and Roman women were not able to participate in physical education and sport to the same degree as men, so they never had the same chances that men did. Greeks would never let women partake in physical education, but the Romans were not quite as harsh letting them occasionally do dancing or light exercise. Once the fall of the Roman Empire happened it became what was known as the dark ages for physical education (Siedentop 25). It was a period of 1,000 years in which physical activity, sport, and fitness diminished in importance amid political and economic chaos (Siedentop 25). The Roman and the Greek civilizations were a great influence on the European culture and philosophies. Europeans then eventually came to settle in America (Siedentop 24). This meant that early ideas and perspective on physical education in the United States were based on European traditions and beliefs which were based on the Roman and Greek culture. To analyze these competitive interactions, we draw on the competitive dynamics stream of research within strategic management (e.g., Grimm Smith, 1997; Smith, Ferrier Ndofor, 2001; Ketchen, Snow Hoover, 2004). We show how competitive dynamics have evolved in the Mexican retail industry following the entrance and dominance of Wal Mart. We conclude with a discussion of the implications for both theory and practice. 1. Competitive Dynamics between Dominant Multinationals and Emerging Market Firms Emerging economies are generally characterized by a rapid pace of economic growth, increasing liberalization of trade and investment regimes, and economic restructuring (Hoskisson et al, 2000). Mexico, for instance, maintained high trade barriers and imposed strict limitations on foreign investment through the mid 1980s. From the point at which Mexico joined the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in 1986 through the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and the United States in 1994 and a broad range of similar agreements with other countries, Mexican firms became increasingly exposed to competitive pressures from foreign firms in the form of imported products as well as foreign owned operations in Mexico. In this respect, the Mexican experience is similar to that of emerging economies throughout Latin America (which also moved away from import substitution industrialization toward a more ... • 30. Martin Luther King Just Law Analysis Justice is considered a consequence for an acted committed by another, that benefits the most amount of people. My personal interpretation of what justice means is different from Martin Luther King, as he describes just laws as laws that uplift personality. What he means by this is that there should be laws in place that do not dehumanize people, whether it is done physically, socially, or legally. He specifically touches upon justice and injustice in regards to law. He defines an injustice law as one that degrades human personality; dehumanizing, in my own words, is the process of making a person feel less than others or giving unequal benefits or deficits based on traits that are out of the average person s control. On the contrary, just laws is the opposite of doing this, making it the act of evening out a wrongdoing, and preventing such acts from occurring in the future, from a societal standpoint. Furthermore, this includes equal opportunity and treatment in regards to traits out of our control. This double edged sword also comes with justifying punishment for action we have control over. If an action someone performs while exercising free will is considered by the majority to be immoral, then it is justifiable to punish them for it. If there is no choice made by a person, how can a person justly punish them for it? These injustices in society are the responsibility of the people, supported by inquiry by Dr. King in his Letter From Birmingham Jail. In the letter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To assess this, we have read two different texts. Richard Rodriguez s the achievement of desire , from his autobiography Hunger of Memory ; and Lucille McCarthy s A Stranger in Strange Lands: A College Student Writing across the Curriculum from Research in the Teaching of English . Both answer key questions regarding what it takes to become a great reader and writer, however, from the reading that I have done, each one only answers one part of the question. Rodriguez s main focus is in the aspect of reading, whereas McCarthy mainly focuses on the writing portion. Both do a decent job of analyzing and putting forth a view of how they believe a person can best perform in these environments. This then allows us to use their concepts and create our own version, based on their points of view. But why should we care? Most people at this level of academia will have developed a system of writing that works for them, and will have a difficult time breaking from it if they re process doesn t meet the criteria that Rodriguez, and McCarthy put forth. • 42. Gay Marriage Should Be Banned Israel McIntosh Professor Endara 5/6/15 Phil 5 Gay Marriage Should be Banned 1. Introduction Gay marriage has been in hot debate for a while now. What once was shunned in almost every culture and society is now creeping into our laws and customs as normal and even acceptable due to the increase of radicals found in Anglo Saxon societies such as the US and UK. Fueled by the recent revolutions of women and interracial groups, homosexuals (a group less than 1 percent of the world s population), have finally taken a stand. Marriage has been a union of opposite sexes for nearly 5000 years and now has come into such scrutiny that it has taken on the attention of the Supreme Court. On April 28th, 2015, the Supreme Court began the case of Obergefell v. Hodge, the dispute which would settle the legalization of gay marriage in the entire US. From such a case, the question arises: Should gay marriage be legalized in the United States? After analyzing the points on both sides of the feud, I came to the clear conclusion that the answer was no, gay marriage should become and continue to be illegal in the United States. 2. Why Should we Ban Gay Marriage? II.A. Marriage was originally intended as the union of two people of opposite gender in order to create a procreation flesh. The problem with this is that a gay marriage, or union of two males or two females, would produce an entirely sterile couple who could not produce children with each other.
