Hellenistic Influence On Greek Culture
With the rise of Alexander The Great begins the Hellenistic Age which is used to describe a time
which Greek culture spread to places like Egypt and Asia. Due to this Greek culture had changed from
what it was during Classical Greece as they were able to achieve much more with this new diverse
culture. The Classical Age of Greece is known for its work in philosophy and the arts. The work of
Greek philosophers of this time such Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle cannot go unnoticed in these
contexts as their accomplishments still have lasting effects on our world today. Along with the great
work of these philosophers, came other great works in architecture and drama. Beginning in 448 B.C.
Pericles began the construction of the Acropolis, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to Alexander s great conquests into Egypt and Asia, money was plentiful for the Greeks and new
cities had to be built and beautified. This is where we first see new cities being laid out on grids which
were introduced by Hippodumus of Miletus in fifth century B.C. However this is just one
accomplishment in architecture during the Hellenistic Age. One place we see a change from Classical
Greece to Hellenistic is how architects began to move away from the balanced tension and idealism
that we saw in the fifth century B.C. With this, they moved toward the sentimental, emotional and
realistic mode of the fourth century B.C. One place where we see this is in the marble statue called the
Laocoon (see pg. 89) which was carved in Rhodes in the second century B.C. and then later taken to

Amnesia Psychology
Amnesia and Memory Loss: The Psychological Phenomenon
Introduction
For my psychology project, I chose the topic of amnesia. I have always been curious about memory
loss ever since I was a little kid. As a young, I watched movies like Finding Nemo were there was a
character, named Dory, who suffered from it. I have also been exposed stories from my parents, about
our ancestors, who suffered from alzheimer s, a disease that contributes to chronic memory loss.
Because of this, I became very curious about amnesia, as well as the concept of memory loss as a
whole. Prior to my research, I created a list of questions that I intended on answering. The questions
that I had were the following: How can we prevent amnesia and memory loss? What are the side
effects of amnesia? And, what are the different types of amnesia?
Overview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right off the bat, I can tell you that it relates directly to the unit on biological sciences, as well as our
developmental psychology unit. We all learned that some memory loss is normal as we age, almost
everyone experiences it in some point in their life. That being said, there have been some rare
instances where octogenarians, or people in their 80 s, retained better working memories than people
in their 20 s (which is often associated as the peak of human mental capacity).
However, most of the time scientists can see a sharp decline in memory, in most octogenarians, as well
as nonagenarians. Moving more towards the biological side of things, normal memory loss that
accompanies normal aging occurs in the brain due to changes in the prefrontal cortex. Meaning, that
as we get older, the less things we may tend to

Castle Clash Research Paper
Castle Clash is an astounding game full of strategy and competition. Unlike the dim, rival game, Clash
of Clans, Castle Clash is based on heroes. Heroes are a necessity in this game. You won t get far
without them. Heroes in Castle Clash are separated into three groups; ordinary, elite, and legendary.
Ordinary heroes are the basic type of heroes, the easiest to acquire. The next step up is elite heroes.
Elite heroes are not yet the superlative, but they are far more ameliorating than ordinaries. They are
easily attained, but they re a slight trickier. Legendary heroes are the most problematical to obtain.
Ordinary heroes have the lowest stats, but are reasonably priced. If you have just started the game,
they will be great for you. There are eight ordinary heroes that consist of Angel, Marauder, Hill Giant,
Engineer, Frost Witch, Dryad, and Marksman. In order to get a specific hero you have to purchase
them with shards. You can also get them by rolling with Honor Badges or gems, but there is a random
choice of what hero you get. Elite heroes have mediocre stats and are slightly more prefered than
ordinary heroes. The following nine are elite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

GEICO Total Reward Essay
In the society that we live in, it is always changing. It has change in so many ways from doing
everything by hand to using technology for mostly everything. Then you have the different ways we
pay our bills, most people do everything online instead of mail or going into a business. Lastly, you
have the way companies use to operate to recruit, hire, train and retain employees. The way they use
to do it back in the days is nowhere near how they do it now. It has change extremely so much. So we
going to examine how a company name GEICO total reward program look like and what they offer to

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer Patients
1.Introduction:
The numbers of people who are dying due to crucial diseases such as cancer have increased, according
to world health organization (WHO) cited in Jane et al (2008), in
2005, 7.6 million people died from cancer, a figure expected to increase to 9 million people by 2015 ,
and increasing further to 11.4 million dying in 2030. Therefore, scientists have attempted to find
appropriate solution for those problems. Since the nineteenth century, solutions have been introduced
by scientists, that use radiation for the diagnosis of diseases instead of surgery (Pope, 1999), which
has led to great
advances in medicine because diagnostic technology such as CT and X rays scanning, nuclear
medicine (PET) and mammography, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

interactions are in two main different ways:if ionizing radiationdirectly interacts,it is

uncharged particle (Knoll, 2010).
2.1.1 Charged particle: This type interacts directly with matter, which can be
generatedfrom fast electrons such as Beta particles or from heavy charged particle
such as; alpha particle.
Beta particle:Most radioactive nucleuses are not stable. Therefore, they start
emitting radiation to be stable, Beta particle is of the type radiation (Graham et al,2012).
This is emitted by radioactive nucleus, the atomic mass number of radioactive nucleus
decreases by one .On the other hand ,atomic number remain the same. It can be seen
from the equation:

Thus, z= is atomic mass number of radioactive nucleus
A= Atomic number
X= is radioactive nucleus before emitting
Y= Radioactive nucleus after emitting

The Reasons For Growth Of Rapid Population Between...
The Reasons for Growth of Rapid Population between Seventeenth and Nineteenth Century Britain
A wide variety of people living in the world have always been exposed at constant change and the
evolution in population has always been a concern and issue by regimes and countries through out
time, especially if it occurred within such short period of time. British economy and Europe
underwent their greatest population transformation between the late 17th and the late 19th century.
Especially, the growth of the English population in the eighteenth century has long interested
economic historians and it subsequently provoked Thomas Malthus to debate about the relationship
between population change and economics growth. Nonetheless, the structure ... Show more content

Despite these difficulties, the Cambridge Group s leading members, Tony Wrigley and Roger
Schofield have discerned a rise in the rate of English population increase in the second half of the
eighteenth century and have emphasized fertility is the key mechanisms of population growth.
The major reason for the growth of population in eighteenth century England can be accredited to a
fall in mortality, which was particularly marked during the first half of the eighteenth century. The fall
affected all socioeconomic groups and does not appear to have occurred for primarily economic
reasons. In addition to an explanation involving the introduction of smallpox inoculation, the major
hypothesis considered by Peter Razzell was that the significant improvement in domestic hygiene
associated with the rebuilding of housing in brick and tile brought about a major reduction in mortality
in the first half of the century.
Revolutions are generally linked with upheaval in society, transforming a nation and its people. British
agricultural revolution was the unprecedented increase in agricultural production in England due to
increases in labour and land productivity that took place between 1750 and 1850. The Agricultural
Revolution saw the invention of the reaper, which saved many back breaking hors of labour in the
fields and eliminated the fallow land from farming. Agricultural revolution allowed the agricultural

Diagnosis And Treatment Of Prostate Cancer
When we have diseases or don t feel well, we tend to seek treatments and try to cure it as soon as
possible. However, what if there is no reliable treatment or nearly no treatment available? Then, the
only option is to do research. Life can be really difficult and no one wants any sickness or diagnosed
with such a hard to cure disease like cancer. Prostate Cancer is a known cancer that happens to men
only and a lot of men in the U.S are diagnosed with it, and happens to male s reproductive system.
Specifically speaking, it is a gland found in the most private area of a man. In the following
paragraphs, I will be explaining why we need to find a way to combat prostate cancer, how to detect
this cancer at early stages, and the risks associated with prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death by cancer for men in the U.S. It mostly affects
African American men than men of other races. In addition, those men who suffer from prostate
cancer would not know that they are affected until they participate in a health checkup or conduct self
diagnoses. A healthy prostate gland should be about the size of a walnut or smaller depend on
individuals. According, to a cancer research center stated about why men are more likely to get cancer
... men were more likely to die from any of the cancers investigated in the report, and ... were also
more likely to develop the disease in the first place (Arney, 2009). Also, men are more likely to die
from any kind of cancer

Therefore, opportunity costs might occur. The indifference of the production managers in these

Austin Wood Products should also define their organizational structure more clearly in terms of its

starved to death almost every day. Millions of animals die each year because of brutal and insensitive
owners. Most people don t understand the feelings that animals have and honestly I don t understand it
either but what I do understand is when I see an animal that has been abused, I can tell the way it acts
toward people and their surroundings. They re terrified of us and almost every move we make. It is
not a pretty sight to witness. In one January case, a necropsy showed a dog that had starved to death,
with no fat remaining even in its bone marrow, leading to a felony charge for its owner. (Deirdre, 2) I

For traits, one has to be hard working, organized, and decisive. As an analyst, there is most likely
going to be a large amount of work being handed to you at a time, so the more of a hard worker they
are, the more likely they will be able to complete all the given tasks in a certain time period and will
be able to tolerate it. Because financial research analysts are given multiple projects at a time, being
organized is key. They must not lose anything because it may have very important and they must
know where everything is, in order to juggle all the responsibilities while finishing the work within the
given time period. Another trait needed is being decisive. As an analyst, much of the job is to make
suggestions whether to buy, hold, or sell stocks to investors. They must make the decision in a quick
manner as the stock market changes practically every minute. So if an analyst cannot decide between
buying, holding, or selling quick enough, the client will most likely stop coming, due to inability to

Ethical Problems With Drones
Ethical Problems with Drone Usage Drones are a new and versatile technology with a multitude of
positive commercial, private, and governmental uses. They are much more than just an invasion of
privacy, when used in the hands of an experienced pilot with a good moral compass. Commercial
Drone Use Tim Yakaitis of Connecticut uses drones for filming property for real estate listings and
other services in his company DroneOn (Townsend, 2014). A simple quadcopter drone with a GoPro
camera hanging underneath, is all that is necessary for him to run this niche business, which he
supplements with commercial landscape photography from his drone and on the ground. Commercial
drones are a reasonably new niche for public drone use, due to the recent innovation of working quad
rotor drones versus the typical single fixed blade like a helicopter (Rothstein, 2015). Quad rotor
designed drones allow for greatly increased stability and hover ability, at the cost of reduced speed
(Rothstein, 2015). This stability and hover increase has put commercial drones on the map especially
for use in cheap aerial photography (Rothstein, 2015).. Private Use In the private research and
conservation spheres of drone use, Connecticut drone owners have used drones to monitor shoreline

Essay On The Kingdom Of Dendi
After this defeat the Morroccon s first sacked the city of Gao and went on to raid the cities of Djenne
and Timbuktu. This effectively brought an end to a unifed power and the Empire of Songhai and split
into numerous separate and independent kingdoms. The Empire of Songhai had been one of the largest
empires in the world controlling a vast geographical territory. However when the Kingdom of
Morrocco attempted to mange the region they soon fell into problems and had to endure constant
rebellions. As a consequence their victory was shortlived and by 1661 AD they withdrew from the
region.
The Kingdom of Dendi
The Empire of Songhai established the Kingdom of Dendi in 1591 AD. The Kingdom of Dendi was
established in the area of modern day Niger near to the Niger River. The capital of the Kingdom of
Dendi was Lulami and the Songhai people again resumed their gold trading activities. The Songhai
people now controlling a much smaller territory continued with electing their line of kings named

Crib Bedding Setting
Nautical Crib Bedding Sets for Boys
Creating the ideal nursery is always an exciting, yet challenging, thing to do, especially when it comes
to decorating for a little boy. Most people want their little girls to be little princesses, but their little
boys to be little men. They do not want to fill a nursery with baby ish items. They want for it to look
like a young man s room. Perhaps that is why so many parents choose nautical crib bedding sets for
boys.
Why Parents Choose the Nautical Theme
There is something very cool and relaxing about a nautical themed room. It is a style that is kind of
preppy, but casually fun at the same time. It can be cute with cartoony whales and other sea creatures

`` Fun Home, By Alison Bechdel
Part graphic memoir and part psychoanalytical study, Alison Bechdel s, Fun Home, is a charming
story about a girl s search for identity within an unconventional family. The novel style autobiography
frames Alison s childhood and adolescence as she struggles with themes of sexual confusion, gender
identity, and convoluted family dynamics. These ideas are explored through the examination of Alison
s relationship with her father, and their shared passion for literature.
Early on in her childhood, Alison came to the realization that her family was different. As individuals,
and as a unit, they were just plain weird. Unlike most young girls, Alison lacked a strong bond with
her parents, most notably her father, Bruce. Because they both display introverted personalities and
had divergent gender identities, Alison and her father never devised a solid relationship. Bruce is
described as possessing generally feminine qualities having passion for fine art and sophisticated
interior design; whereas Alison claims to have become a connoisseur of masculinity at a young age
(95). Neither of them fit their stereotypical role within the family; Bruce didn t act like a macho man
dad, and Alison wasn t playing dress up with all the other little girls. Though their personas seem
compatible, the stark difference in their gender affiliations was a source of great tension between
Alison and her father. Not only does Alison approach herself and her father as inversions of each
other, but she

Heritage, a Theme in Alice WalkerÂŽs Everyday Use
Alice Walker sets Everyday Use as a story of a mother and two daughters where the older daughter,
Dee, is coming home to visit them after being away for a while. Walker sets the tone of the story by
displaying how poor and uneducated the family is and how Dee while growing up was always looking
for better things never appreciating the aspects of her life. As the story develops, the focus of the story
is on a set of quilts made by the mother from pieces of clothing that belonged to her grandparents and
the personal battle of who should really keep them in order to appreciate the heritage behind them. In
Everyday Use a person can see how Maggie and Dee differ on the fact that heritage is a characteristic
of pride that a person displays every day of their life versus a fad for a specific period of someone s
life.
While growing up Dee was always resentful of the lifestyle that she had as it did not measure to the
better things she was always dreaming of. While the mother recounts the story of when their original
house burned to the ground, she mentions how Dee stood there concentrating at the way the house
slowly disappeared in the fire since she hated the house that much (Walker 298). This aspect sets the
tone of how Dee was never willing to embody the characteristics of her life growing up, and it can be
seen how she was ashamed of where she came from as later she writes her mother in a letter of how
she will always try to visit them, but she will never bring her

I Am Number Four Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Rose Reeves Mr.Boynton English 4 12/11/2015 Compare And Contrast I Am Number Four Book And
Movie The novel I am number four was written by Pittacus Lore. It is a book about a boy named John
Smith who is an alien on the run from enemies hunting him and the eight others like him. Always
changing his identity and moving to different towns with his guardian, Henri. But in the small town of
Ohio John finds love and makes new friends. He figures out he is more powerful than he knows. The
movie is much different than the book. I was really shocked at how much they changed things in the
movie. I think I liked the movie better than the book just simply because it was pretty straight forward
I didn t feel very much suspense and I like that. Despite all the differences in the book there were a

pictures of John, In the movie she does not take pictures. Sam Goode wears his father s glasses in the

was the fact that Sam wasn t wearing his nasa shirt in the movie. Sarah s mom the real estate agent

Cross Cultural Interactions Of A New And Invigorated Way
I would like to start off this final assignment by stating this course has been very informative in many
ways and has allowed me to evaluate myself and cross cultural interactions in a new and invigorated
way. At the beginning of the course I was skeptical of the objectives, largely due to my previous
learning experiences, while attend the Joint Senior Enlisted Academy four years ago the faculty
brought in very well respected speakers to convey similar topics. My personal willingness to take an
alternative perspective or delay judgement on the topics they were discussing was lacking, reflecting
back on that time now I feel it was largely due to taking the group s perspective and how the speakers
were introduced by some of the instructors prior to their presentations. I don t think the instructors
were maliciously trying to sabotage the presentations, there were references to members from
previous classes getting upset because of the speakers liberal leanings, they were just giving the class
a heads up to the nature of the presentation, but this led me personally not seriously considering their
ideas or experiences.
When assessing my confidence level with the five enabling attitudes introduced in this week s lesson
three of the five I immediately relate to and feel comfortable in my ability employ them in future cross
cultural engagements. Those three are tolerance of ambiguity, resilience and willingness to engage,
several times during this course I have been able to

desperate the soldiers were in this situation. This scene makes the audience feel sympathy towards

Similarities Between Cool Hand Luke And One Flew Over The...
Many situations can make a man lose his mind, or make him more insane. Between the movie Cool
Hand Luke and the novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, sanity is questioned.
These two pieces of literature also question the jurisdiction and methods that take place in prisons and
mental wards. Both stories demonstrate the idea of strength, making your own happiness, and the
symbol of fear or punishment. In the novel, McMurphy represents strength, for even his hands, Were
thick and strong closing over mine, and my hand commenced to feel peculiar and went to swelling up
out there on my stick of an arm, like he was transmitting his own blood into it. It rang with blood and
power, (Kesey 25). He is seen as a symbol of strength ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time that Luke tries to escape, he is caught and forced to wear a chain around his legs. The
same thing happens to him again when he tries to run away for a second, but instead of wearing one
chain around his legs, he is forced to wear two. The box also symbolizes fear in Cool Hand Luke, for
it is punishment for breaking the rules at the prison grounds. After each attempt to escape Luke is
thrown into the box for a couple of nights as well. The chains and the box are used to instill fear in the
prisoners, and it normally works but with a few exceptions like Luke. No prisoner wants to spend the
night alone in the box or walking around with their legs tied together, so normally they behave and
follow the rules. The box and the chains are in place to do exactly that, for people with a criminal
background cannot be trusted to do the right thing on their own. Prisoners need a push to be led in the
right direction, and in this case, the Captain uses fear to keep the prisoners that work for him in line.
He also uses people who act out, like Luke, to set an example for the rest of the prisoners and show
them what could happen to them and make them fear

The History Of Quantum Computing
The field of quantum information science is undergoing rapid growth, and is leading to many new and
exciting discoveries with applications in computer science, communication, encryption, and
elsewhere. One application is quantum computing, which uses quantum qubits instead of classical
bits, and has the potential to allow researchers to solve certain previously intractable problems in a
much shorter timeframe. Another is quantum cryptography, which allows for theoretically unbreakable
encryption.

of their functionality. Quantum key distribution experiments transmit the information using photons,

One of the most common superconductors used in low temperature experiments for this purpose is
niobium titanium alloy (NbTi). At very low temperatures, NbTi can transfer an order of magnitude
less heat than non superconducting cables [2]. However, titanium and titanium alloys form oxides
when exposed to air, and these oxides make soldering to NbTi cables nearly impossible. While
solderless methods of connectorizing cables exist, the machines required are expensive and purpose
built for one size of cable [3].
A better candidate for connectorization is electroplating, which has been one of the focuses of my
research in Professor Lafyatis and Professor Gauthier s groups at The Ohio State University. By
studying various electroplating techniques, I aim to create a simpler, less expensive procedure which
would allow our group to produce these cables on demand to use with our SNSPDs. In the past,
companies have used nickel electroplating of NbTi cables, which is described in a patent by Saubestre
and Bulan in 1961 [4]. However, this technique has two issues that prevent it from being useful in for
plating NbTi today. First, the metal being plated is nickel, which is ferromagnetic. In recent years,
there have been many experiments at cold temperatures that are highly sensitive to magnetism,
including research using SQUIDs, magnetometers, or nuclear magnetic resonance, making nickel a
poor choice of plating

Independence, Famine, And Soviet Rule
INTRODUCTION:
Independence, Famine, and Soviet Rule:
At the end of World War I, Ukraine enjoyed a brief period of independence as a result of the 1917
Russian Revolution; unfortunately, this period lacked cohesive leadership as a result of competing
Ukranian factions. Ukraine ultimately joined the Soviet Union in 1922, bringing more stability to the
region. Ten years later, however, 10 million Ukrainians died as a result of the Holodomor, an
orchestrated famine by Joseph Stalin.
This was not the only incident of oppression under Stalinist rule; in 1944, Stalin deported over
230,000 Crimean Tatars and sent them to Siberia and the Urals, his reason being that the Tatars had
worked with the Nazis. Stalin then had ethnic Russians move ... Show more content on

against this victory. Ultimately, Yanukovych was disposed and Yuschenko replaced him in office.
Yushchenko had also been poisoned at one point during his campaigning in an assassination attempt.

Unfortunately, these were not Yuschenko s only setbacks. Economic issues, such as rising debt, hurt
the Ukraine, and Russia became angry as Ukraine strengthened its relationship with the European

politically motivated), Russia cut off its supply of natural gas in 2006 for a brief period of time
because of Ukraine s use of row over prices (bbc). In the same year, changes in the constitution were
made, taking some powers from the president and instead giving them to the parliament.
In 2009, Russia again stopped supplying gas to Ukraine, this time because of unpaid bills and price
disputes, although this was resolved when the two countries signed a ten year gas transit deal. In 2010,

best practices mentioned from the textbook to suggest a prioritization process for project selection.
After developing textbook scenarios further for the new SOA model to test I looked at the possible
outcomes and largest advantages. The recommendations are used in the answer section 4.
c. Looking back
Ideas for the capabilities and governance also came from the lectures, readings, and previous case
work. Although the specifics are much different in that the standardization of equipment is not
common between them, the cases all need better business IT partnerships and oversight. Looking for
what makes them similar and different gave a unique perspective to each case.

destruction of the rainforests across the world. There has been dramatic deforestation across the world

land larger than Belgium. The Amazon is home to up to 30% of the world s animal and plant life.
Trees also convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, thereby playing a major part in reducing pollution and
controlling climate change caused by excess greenhouse gases.
The tropical rainforest of the Amazon Basin is the largest area of tropical rainforest in the world.
Different countries exploit the forest for different uses and we shall go into these causes now.
One of the major purposes for the clearing of the forest is for housing. These happens in countries
where the population is growing rapidly, e.g. Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. In addition, more houses
are built in deforested areas to resettle people from crowded and heavily urbanised and densely
populated cities in Brazil such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Extensive areas of the tropical

and commercial agriculture. Cattle ranching is an important source of farming activity in many

- En-Side Effects Of Aboriginal Striation On The Gneiss
The Granite rock is an intrusive rock that formed from magma coming from beneath the earth s
surface. It went through a slow cooling process that allowed the minerals; mainly quartz and feldspar
to form where the result is the coarse texture. The granite went through hydrothermal metamorphism
(involves hot fluid) and contact metamorphism. The gneiss, however, being able to withstand high
temperatures came from a large country rock. This piece of gneiss broke off from the country rock and
got trapped in between as the granite cooled. The gneiss then became the xenolith. This shows that the
granite is the younger rock and the gneiss the older. The striations on the Gneiss were caused by
faults. A slick en side fault caused the horizontal striations

A Dividend Payment For Shareholders
A dividend is the part of a firm`s earnings that are paid to the shareholder, either in monetary terms or
as shares. In the UK, dividends are paid by UK quoted companies semi annually and are taxed
depending on an individual`s income (Arnold, 2008 GOV.UK, 2015). According to the Financial
Times (2015) however, a dividend payment to shareholders is not an obligation, in fact a business`s
board of directors are able to opt whether they desire to make a dividend payment or not, depending
mostly on the health of the business. If so, the dividend payment to shareholders is made from a firm`s
accumulated profits or reserves pots, with the anticipation that the firm can cover this withdrawal of
monetary funds by injecting further cash quickly and efficiently into the firm or shareholders may
receive dividends in forms of shares, in this situation, a firm is unlikely to lose much as shareholders
would be likely to reinvest into the firm. Conversely, if a firm`s board of directors opt the opposing
decision, not to make a dividend payment, this is likely to be due to a firm supporting an insufficient
cash flow or the monetary fund s being identified as needed urgently for more meaningful purposes,
such as reducing debt (The Financial Times, 2015). Despite this, the main question in consideration is:
whether a rational investor considers dividends when determining the value of shares? In order to
answer this question effectively, this essay shall commence further through exploring

Blackberries are long gone, and technology is still considered an enemy of sorts in third world

Genetic Testing Persuasive Essay
What would you do if an immediate family member of yours developed a popular genetic disease and
there was a possibility of you having it? Wouldn t you want to know whether or not you had it as well,
in your genes? Genetic testing allows for people to know if they have a certain genetic disease, if they
need to get a certain treatment plan set up, or if there are ways to prevent it from becoming present or
visible in the body. Genetic Discrimination is no longer legally allowed, meaning that there is no
longer a need to fear the possibility of your genetic information getting into the wrong hands. Genetic
testing should be done by anyone who may have a chance of developing any type of disease that could
be life threatening or not. Genetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it is greatly feared that your genetic information will get in the hands of the wrong person, it
is now protected by the law. Genetic Discrimination is no longer allowed because both federal and
state laws have been made against allowing employers and insurance agents to discriminate you based
on a genetic disease you may have. These laws are part of the GINA Genetic Information
Nondiscrimination Act. There are two titles within GINA, Title One prohibits Genetic Discrimination
in Health Insurance and Title Two prohibits Genetic Discrimination in Employment. Others may argue
that genetic testing is unreliable and does not work to detect genetic diseases in all parts of the body.
Among the variety of genetic tests, some yield high rates of false positive and false negative results,
while others are characterized by findings that are precise but of uncertain clinical or predictive value
(1998, Hastings Center Report, 15 21). Although that may be true, there can be tests done in other
parts of the body to get better results instead of the false results. Taking blood from another location in
the body will allow the patient to get the true positive or negative that they need to tell if they have the

The Death Of The Trenches
Children are often considered carefree and innocent, which is the reason behind their state of
happiness. They rarely cross paths with conflict from the outside world, but what happens when they
become men and are sent off to fight in the war? Otto Dix s visual representation along with the
poems, Suicide in the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon, Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owens, and
Blessed Are by Charles Peguy all capture the horrors and distress caused by World War 1. When it
came time to enlist in the war, young men were ecstatic about becoming heroes by the act of serving
their country. Although, in reality these men did not know the consequences that came with their life
changing decision to go into combat. Sassoon s Suicide in the Trenches exposes the psychological
issues that overwhelmed one soldier in particular, but as the reader, it is clear that the feelings
described belong to any soldier that ever felt the wrath of the war. The first stanza paints a picture of a
soldier who knows nothing of death or destruction. Line number three, specifically, reads slept
soundly through the lonesome dark (Suicide in the Trenches). This shows that prior to the war, this
soldier felt comfortable and safe within the walls of his home and most importantly, he felt safe within
himself. The last mention of him is in the second stanza where it is revealed that he committed
suicide. The last stanza could resemble a call of action. The narrator calls the civilians

References to Sue s Homosexuality in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure
Perhaps the most interesting character in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure is Susanna Florence Mary
Bridehead (Sue). Throughout the novel, she is described as everything from boyish and sexless, all the
way to Voltairean and just simply unconventional. Some claim she had read prolifically many writers
noted for their frankness and/or indecency (Hardy 118). Upon a surface reading, one can t help but
wonder about the sexual identity and desires of Sue. At first, there seems to be none; however, upon a
deeper reading of the novel, I can t help but suspect that Sue is actually a lesbian.
Sue s failures with men contribute to my feeling; she has endured unfulfilling ... Show more content

In fact, the conception of all three of her children is conveniently skipped in the text. Take into
consideration Jude s previous behavior with Arabella he is a man with an enormous sex drive and
probably next to impossible to fight off night after night, especially living in the same house with him.
He is, indeed, powerfully sexed (Howe 514), and her relationship with Jude is one that she accepted
with distaste (Gosse 390). He is often stealing kisses and she is continually asking him to stop. As
cousins, and similar in many ways, these two isolated people completed each other and needed each
other, but their relationship shouldn t have been physical. As Ingham informs us in the introduction,
Sue says, We ought to have lived in mental communion, and no more (xx). Ingham also states that Sue
inspires the spirit side of Jude s nature, whereas Arabella supplies the flesh side (xii).
Early in the novel, when Jude and Sue are first getting to know each other, she tells him that she has
no fear of men and that she has mixed with them almost as one of their own sex (Hardy 118). In fact,
she could be discussing the undergraduate that she lived with for a short time, who wanted to be her
lover, but she saw him as a best friend. This passage depicts a woman who has nothing against men
and enjoys their company, but who is in no way sexually interested in them. Furthermore, in part
three, Sue tells Jude that she is a virgin: I have

Mary Shelley s Modern Prometheus
Frankenstein was Mary Shelley s modern Prometheus, a literary form of the forbidden flame bestowed
upon the human race the science of electricity. Yet, the story of Victor Frankenstein s creature is not
one strictly of science, or of a caution against it, or of a vendetta against the popular Calvinist belief of
predestination. What Victor Frankenstein, and Mary Shelley, created for the world was a story of how
far a man dared go with the forbidden flame greater natural knowledge that was spreading amongst
mankind. The unique blend of science to create a monster so akin to the undead vampire or spirits
created a new form of supernatural, the kind of supernatural that was manmade. Frankenstein, with its
meeting of the modern Prometheus and the leading strict Calvinist faith, created such controversy,
which led Shelley to vastly revise the work in a second edition; the novel stood as a stepping stone
into and out of the Romantic works, with intensity of emotion and the new aesthetic of the sublime,
but the continuing message of Mary Shelley s work not of the dangers of man overcoming God
maintained the difference between what could be done and what should be done, in the most
cautionary way.
In some ways, Frankenstein offers the reader an overt theme of caution don t attempt to equal nature s,
or God s, power which was hardly accepted at the time of publication; however, this reflection, and
combination, of religion and science became continual controversy linked

The Radio And Its Impact On America
In the 1920s there was no ABC news. No sports announcements. No CD players. No television.
Before the 1920s they only had newspapers and live sports. Then, the radio came. In the 1920s and
30s the radio impacted culture by informing the public of news, bringing together America s music
and sports, and even uniting America to stop the Great Depression and restore faith in government.
The radio was first invented in 1895. At first, people were unaware of the possible uses radios would
eventually have. Twenty five years after the radio was invented, the beginning of commercial
broadcasting radio stations began with the KDKA in Pittsburgh. During that time, the war began a
mass production of radios which let more common households own them instead of radios being a
rich people s toy, as they were considered previously. Radios sales spread as radios were cheaper and
people had more money to spend in the 1920s. By the end of the decade more than twelve million
households owned radios.
Radios changed America through news as people changed from reading newspapers to listening to the
radio starting November 2, 1920, which was more convenient and frequent. Unlike newspapers, radios
could broadcast information live instead of waiting for the next day s paper, therefore they began to
rival the popularity of newspapers (Britannica). People could hear events immediately and could do so
while cooking or doing other activities. This allowed America to be more informed more efficiently

Lucid Dreaming Paper
Studies with Lucid Dreaming as add on therapy to Gestalt Therapy
Hannah Carter
Pikes Peak Community College
Abstract
The following paper analyzes a psychology journal that examined the results of a clinical study
seeking to teach lucid dreaming, in partnership with gestalt therapy, as an additional tool for dealing
with nightmares. B. Holzinger, G. Klosch, and B. Saletu define lucid dreaming as a learnable skill
with in which the nightmare sufferer learns about dream awareness techniques, providing them with a
means of control when experiencing nightmares (p. 355). In association, Gestalt therapy is defined as
a conscious confrontation of nightmare images in a therapy setting, often by role playing. The
argument is made that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researcher s belief was that the inflated self confidence, that learning lucid dreaming would equip
their patients with, would decrease the patient s anxiety and therefore decrease the frequency of the
nightmares. With supporting evidence from the experiment that there was a decrease in nightmare
frequency, it can be assumed that the researchers think their results can be applied to the greater
majority of adults suffering from recurrent nightmares. The researchers are assuming through this
assertion that all adults suffering from nightmares are under stress. This can be applied to adults who
are suffering from specifically stress resulting from events from 2014. It is not accurate to assume that
all stress is the same and that people will be affected similarly to

  • 2. Hellenistic Influence On Greek Culture With the rise of Alexander The Great begins the Hellenistic Age which is used to describe a time which Greek culture spread to places like Egypt and Asia. Due to this Greek culture had changed from what it was during Classical Greece as they were able to achieve much more with this new diverse culture. The Classical Age of Greece is known for its work in philosophy and the arts. The work of Greek philosophers of this time such Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle cannot go unnoticed in these contexts as their accomplishments still have lasting effects on our world today. Along with the great work of these philosophers, came other great works in architecture and drama. Beginning in 448 B.C. Pericles began the construction of the Acropolis, ... This is where we first see new cities being laid out on grids which were introduced by Hippodumus of Miletus in fifth century B.C. However this is just one accomplishment in architecture during the Hellenistic Age. One place we see a change from Classical Greece to Hellenistic is how architects began to move away from the balanced tension and idealism that we saw in the fifth century B.C. With this, they moved toward the sentimental, emotional and realistic mode of the fourth century B.C. One place where we see this is in the marble statue called the Laocoon (see pg. 89) which was carved in Rhodes in the second century B.C. and then later taken to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Amnesia Psychology Amnesia and Memory Loss: The Psychological Phenomenon Introduction For my psychology project, I chose the topic of amnesia. I have always been curious about memory loss ever since I was a little kid. As a young, I watched movies like Finding Nemo were there was a character, named Dory, who suffered from it. I have also been exposed stories from my parents, about our ancestors, who suffered from alzheimer s, a disease that contributes to chronic memory loss. Because of this, I became very curious about amnesia, as well as the concept of memory loss as a whole. Prior to my research, I created a list of questions that I intended on answering. The questions that I had were the following: How can we prevent amnesia and memory loss? What are the side effects of amnesia? And, what are the different types of amnesia? Overview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Right off the bat, I can tell you that it relates directly to the unit on biological sciences, as well as our developmental psychology unit. We all learned that some memory loss is normal as we age, almost everyone experiences it in some point in their life. That being said, there have been some rare instances where octogenarians, or people in their 80 s, retained better working memories than people in their 20 s (which is often associated as the peak of human mental capacity). However, most of the time scientists can see a sharp decline in memory, in most octogenarians, as well as nonagenarians. Moving more towards the biological side of things, normal memory loss that accompanies normal aging occurs in the brain due to changes in the prefrontal cortex. Meaning, that as we get older, the less things we may tend to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heroes are a necessity in this game. You won t get far without them. They are easily attained, but they re a slight trickier. Legendary heroes are the most problematical to obtain. Ordinary heroes have the lowest stats, but are reasonably priced. If you have just started the game, they will be great for you. There are eight ordinary heroes that consist of Angel, Marauder, Hill Giant, Engineer, Frost Witch, Dryad, and Marksman. The fall affected all socioeconomic groups and does not appear to have occurred for primarily economic reasons. In addition to an explanation involving the introduction of smallpox inoculation, the major hypothesis considered by Peter Razzell was that the significant improvement in domestic hygiene associated with the rebuilding of housing in brick and tile brought about a major reduction in mortality in the first half of the century. The novel style autobiography frames Alison s childhood and adolescence as she struggles with themes of sexual confusion, gender identity, and convoluted family dynamics. These ideas are explored through the examination of Alison s relationship with her father, and their shared passion for literature. Early on in her childhood, Alison came to the realization that her family was different. As individuals, and as a unit, they were just plain weird. Unlike most young girls, Alison lacked a strong bond with her parents, most notably her father, Bruce. Because they both display introverted personalities and had divergent gender identities, Alison and her father never devised a solid relationship. Bruce is described as possessing generally feminine qualities having passion for fine art and sophisticated interior design; whereas Alison claims to have become a connoisseur of masculinity at a young age (95). Neither of them fit their stereotypical role within the family; Bruce didn t act like a macho man dad, and Alison wasn t playing dress up with all the other little girls. Heritage, a Theme in Alice WalkerÂŽs Everyday Use Alice Walker sets Everyday Use as a story of a mother and two daughters where the older daughter, Dee, is coming home to visit them after being away for a while. Walker sets the tone of the story by displaying how poor and uneducated the family is and how Dee while growing up was always looking for better things never appreciating the aspects of her life. As the story develops, the focus of the story is on a set of quilts made by the mother from pieces of clothing that belonged to her grandparents and the personal battle of who should really keep them in order to appreciate the heritage behind them. In Everyday Use a person can see how Maggie and Dee differ on the fact that heritage is a characteristic of pride that a person displays every day of their life versus a fad for a specific period of someone s life. While growing up Dee was always resentful of the lifestyle that she had as it did not measure to the better things she was always dreaming of. While the mother recounts the story of when their original house burned to the ground, she mentions how Dee stood there concentrating at the way the house slowly disappeared in the fire since she hated the house that much (Walker 298). This aspect sets the tone of how Dee was never willing to embody the characteristics of her life growing up, and it can be seen how she was ashamed of where she came from as later she writes her mother in a letter of how she will always try to visit them, but she will never bring her ... • 30. Cross Cultural Interactions Of A New And Invigorated Way I would like to start off this final assignment by stating this course has been very informative in many ways and has allowed me to evaluate myself and cross cultural interactions in a new and invigorated way. At the beginning of the course I was skeptical of the objectives, largely due to my previous learning experiences, while attend the Joint Senior Enlisted Academy four years ago the faculty brought in very well respected speakers to convey similar topics. My personal willingness to take an alternative perspective or delay judgement on the topics they were discussing was lacking, reflecting back on that time now I feel it was largely due to taking the group s perspective and how the speakers were introduced by some of the instructors prior to their presentations. I don t think the instructors were maliciously trying to sabotage the presentations, there were references to members from previous classes getting upset because of the speakers liberal leanings, they were just giving the class a heads up to the nature of the presentation, but this led me personally not seriously considering their ideas or experiences. When assessing my confidence level with the five enabling attitudes introduced in this week s lesson three of the five I immediately relate to and feel comfortable in my ability employ them in future cross cultural engagements. Those three are tolerance of ambiguity, resilience and willingness to engage, several times during this course I have been able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Similarities Between Cool Hand Luke And One Flew Over The... Many situations can make a man lose his mind, or make him more insane. Between the movie Cool Hand Luke and the novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, sanity is questioned. These two pieces of literature also question the jurisdiction and methods that take place in prisons and mental wards. Both stories demonstrate the idea of strength, making your own happiness, and the symbol of fear or punishment. In the novel, McMurphy represents strength, for even his hands, Were thick and strong closing over mine, and my hand commenced to feel peculiar and went to swelling up out there on my stick of an arm, like he was transmitting his own blood into it. The same thing happens to him again when he tries to run away for a second, but instead of wearing one chain around his legs, he is forced to wear two. The box also symbolizes fear in Cool Hand Luke, for it is punishment for breaking the rules at the prison grounds. After each attempt to escape Luke is thrown into the box for a couple of nights as well. The chains and the box are used to instill fear in the prisoners, and it normally works but with a few exceptions like Luke. No prisoner wants to spend the night alone in the box or walking around with their legs tied together, so normally they behave and follow the rules. The box and the chains are in place to do exactly that, for people with a criminal background cannot be trusted to do the right thing on their own. Prisoners need a push to be led in the right direction, and in this case, the Captain uses fear to keep the prisoners that work for him in line. One of the most common superconductors used in low temperature experiments for this purpose is niobium titanium alloy (NbTi). At very low temperatures, NbTi can transfer an order of magnitude less heat than non superconducting cables [2]. However, titanium and titanium alloys form oxides when exposed to air, and these oxides make soldering to NbTi cables nearly impossible. While solderless methods of connectorizing cables exist, the machines required are expensive and purpose built for one size of cable [3]. A better candidate for connectorization is electroplating, which has been one of the focuses of my research in Professor Lafyatis and Professor Gauthier s groups at The Ohio State University. By studying various electroplating techniques, I aim to create a simpler, less expensive procedure which would allow our group to produce these cables on demand to use with our SNSPDs. In the past, companies have used nickel electroplating of NbTi cables, which is described in a patent by Saubestre and Bulan in 1961 [4]. However, this technique has two issues that prevent it from being useful in for plating NbTi today. First, the metal being plated is nickel, which is ferromagnetic. In recent years, there have been many experiments at cold temperatures that are highly sensitive to magnetism, including research using SQUIDs, magnetometers, or nuclear magnetic resonance, making nickel a poor choice of plating ... It went through a slow cooling process that allowed the minerals; mainly quartz and feldspar to form where the result is the coarse texture. The granite went through hydrothermal metamorphism (involves hot fluid) and contact metamorphism. The gneiss, however, being able to withstand high temperatures came from a large country rock. This piece of gneiss broke off from the country rock and got trapped in between as the granite cooled. The gneiss then became the xenolith. In the UK, dividends are paid by UK quoted companies semi annually and are taxed depending on an individual`s income (Arnold, 2008 GOV.UK, 2015). According to the Financial Times (2015) however, a dividend payment to shareholders is not an obligation, in fact a business`s board of directors are able to opt whether they desire to make a dividend payment or not, depending mostly on the health of the business. If so, the dividend payment to shareholders is made from a firm`s accumulated profits or reserves pots, with the anticipation that the firm can cover this withdrawal of monetary funds by injecting further cash quickly and efficiently into the firm or shareholders may receive dividends in forms of shares, in this situation, a firm is unlikely to lose much as shareholders would be likely to reinvest into the firm. Conversely, if a firm`s board of directors opt the opposing decision, not to make a dividend payment, this is likely to be due to a firm supporting an insufficient cash flow or the monetary fund s being identified as needed urgently for more meaningful purposes, such as reducing debt (The Financial Times, 2015). Yet, the story of Victor Frankenstein s creature is not one strictly of science, or of a caution against it, or of a vendetta against the popular Calvinist belief of predestination. The radio was first invented in 1895. At first, people were unaware of the possible uses radios would eventually have. Twenty five years after the radio was invented, the beginning of commercial broadcasting radio stations began with the KDKA in Pittsburgh. During that time, the war began a mass production of radios which let more common households own them instead of radios being a rich people s toy, as they were considered previously.
