Nucleic Acid Investigation
The purpose of the introductory activity was to analyze the pH of a mixture of a strong base and
weak acid. The purpose of the guided inquiry lab was to analyze the concentration of sodium
carbonate by titrating the substance using a nitic acid solution.
Introductory Activity
5 mL of both 0.2 M ammonia and 0.1 M acetic acid were placed in separate test tubes and their pH
was determined with pH paper. A mixture was created by pouring both together and its final pH
was recorded. The strength of the acid and base was determined and whether the two had equal
concentration. Each indicator was researched (its colors when it s acidic/basic and its pH
transition range) and phenolphthalein was deemed suitable for this experiment. 5 mL of acetic
acid was poured into a test tube and 1 2 drops of phenolphthalein were added. The initial color
was recorded. 10 mL of ammonia was obtained in a graduated cylinder and using the graduated
pipet, the base was added to the acid in 1 mL increments. Upon reaching the equivalence point, the
indicator color and the amount of base required to obtain this point were recorded. The relative
concentrations of the acid and base were then estimated.

The indicator methyl red was deemed appropriate. A 60 mL Poorman s buret was placed on a
support stand above a beaker with a magnetic stirrer. The sides of the beaker and flask were
rinsed with water. 100 mL of nitric acid was collected and placed in the beaker below the buret.
Approximately 3 drops of methyl red indicator were added. After being rinsed with water and
sodium carbonate, the buret was filled with 60 mL of nitric acid. The beaker was placed 2 cm
under the buret. Then the sodium carbonate was titrated until the methyl red changed from red to
yellow. The final buret reading was recorded to determine the final volume of the base. The titration
data was used to graph a titration

Raami In Vaddey Ratner s In The Shadow Of The Banyan
In the Shadow of the Banyan, by Vaddey Ratner, details the struggles of Raami, a young girl
coming of age in a time of the Cambodian genocide. The descriptions from Raami s point of
view are vivid. She is forced to leave her childhood behind with the regime of the Khmer Rouge.
As a Cambodian child, her life transformed from living as a princess with many privileges to
living life day to day on the move, witnessing such terror, is quite the turnaround for anyone
especially a child. She processes her experience as best as a child her age can, based on pure
emotions. She s at an age where children make sense of things with naivety. As the story continues,
the descriptions of what she sees changes. As I have mentioned, Raami does not fully comprehend

The Strategic Management Plan Of Mintzberg And Waters
Introduction:
It is very much essential that an organization is curved by the strategic management plan and
process to bring future growth in the business in terms of global market insight and profitability of
the specific organization (Ethiraj et al. 2016). The systematic and formative analysis of the factors
and steps incorporated with the external environment of the organization as well as the internal
environment give it a boost to strategize marketing and management plan in easier way. In this case
study, the strategic management plan of Mintzberg and Waters evolved out with the insight of
specific example and the organization has maintained those process in a dynamic way.

Theme Of Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
In Marigolds , a short story by Eugenia Collier, the experiences of the protagonist support one of the
many themes that growing up will deprive you of the innocence that you used to have as a child.
She develops the theme that one cannot have both compassion and innocence. Through the use of
several literary techniques such as symbolism, conflict, resolution, and irony, the author conveys
through the protagonist, the overall theme of this short story. There are many situations that the
main character goes through that show the reader the true meaning of this. Lizabeth, the main
character, transforms from a violent carefree girl to a mature responsible woman by the end of the
story. Lizabeth is the protagonist who faces many problem from the beginning. She does not know
whether to place herself in society, as a child or an adult. Joy and rage and wild... Show more

Seeing a person she completely looked up to, showing signs of weakness was too much for her
to handle. My father was a strong man who could whisk a child upon his shoulders and go
singing through the house. How could it be that my father was crying? The world had lost its
boundary lines. My mother, who was small and soft, was now the strength of the family; my
father, who was the rock on which the family had been built, was sobbing like the tiniest child
Where did I fit into this broken picture? I do not now remember my thoughts, only a feeling of
great bewilderment and fear. Even up to now, Lizabeth is still acting as if she is a child. She
cannot control her emotion whatsoever because right after she hears of this news, she cannot fall
asleep. She decides to do what she wants. And, she wants to take out all of her anger. She goes to
Mrs. Lottie s yard and finds the marigolds. She just jumps in them, completely destroying them, and

The Major Governmental Reformations Of The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era formally begins in 1837 with the coronation of Queen Victoria and ends in 1901
with her death. The early Victorian years are marked with the developments in economics, social
life, religion and the government. The major governmental reformations can be seen in the Reform
Acts of 1832 which introduced changes in the electoral system in order to increase seats in the
House of Commons, to the large cities that had emerged during the Industrial Revolution; being
followed by the Reform Act of 1867, which doubled the number of adult males that could vote; and
the Reform Act of 1884 that targeted the rural areas, so they could have the same right to vote as
the urban areas.
The Industrial Revolution was the major event during the

Why Is It Better To Stand Out
I believe that it is better to stand out rather than to fit in. When you stand out, you are able to
learn so many things about yourself that you never knew about. But first, you need to stand out
from the crowd, do what matters to you and change the world for the better. By being yourself, it
allows people to follow in your footsteps by becoming a leader, not a follower. For example, in a
garden bed there are a million of white flowers, but one rose. That one rose is unique and
everyone wants that one since it is different from the rest. By fitting in, people are killing their
own creativity just to be accepted to be like others. We feel pressured to measure up to the same
standard as everyone else to satisfy people s needs and wants. We want

Seven Layers in the OSI Model
1. This class made me learn quite a lot. Though it was a course I have done in my under
graduate, this class helped me to learn more about the networking. The class was interactive and
fun, the lab sessions were very helpful. The project was one of the best parts of the whole
course. It made me look into and study about various new protocols in networking and finally I
could get an idea on how I could design a protocol by myself. The most important thing I learnt
in this class is the detailed functions and uses of every later in the OSI model, and I also
realized that TCP is the most important protocol of all that I learnt. It is very reliable and
provides acknowledgement, and is a full duplex process. It provides congestion control and flow
control and is also a connection oriented service. On an overall this class made me learn a lot
that would always be very helpful to me. 2. The seven Layers in the OSI model are Physical
Layer, Link Layer, Network Layer, Transport Layer, Session Layer, Application Layer and the
presentation Layer. Each layer has a specific function to perform and consist of different
protocols. Physical layer is the lowest one and handles transmission and reception of messages
over the medium. Then comes the link layer , it allows error free transmission of the data frames
in the physical layer. The network layer takes care of processes like routing, traffic control and
fragmentation of the data. The next one is the transport layer, it takes care of the

Power Of Depression By Joyce Hocker And William Wilmot
Power of Depression
In most situations the term power is looked at between one person or group and another. The
same perspective from the textbook Interpersonal Conflict written by Joyce Hocker and William
Wilmot can be applied when looking at the lack of internal power when going through a phase of
depression. The type of power, level of power, solutions, as well as the RICE perspective can all be
associated with myself and my depressed state I went through for a few months.
Distributive power is a power of domination which forces or manipulates a person into a low
power role or situation. Within a distributive form of power, power itself becomes the main focus
of thinking and discussion by the person of low power. In regard to my personal experience with
depression, the incident is just that definition. In the instance of depression it forced and
manipulated myself to have a lack of power towards my feelings and motivations. The constant
battle is trying to figure out how to escape the hurt, and helplessness you feel internally. Escaping
and gaining power within becomes the main desire as soon as you recognize that you can no
longer handle the pain. Thus, you are in a battle of distributive power fighting between you and the
depression building inside of you.
Wilmot and Hocker defined interpersonal power as the ability to influence relational partner in any
context because you control, or at least the partner perceives that you control, resources that the

Evolutionary microbiology is the study of the evolution of microbes. This review focuses on how
bacterial pathogenic cells have evolved alongside normal eukaryotic host cells, leading to the
development of mechanisms that allowed bacterial cells to take over eukaryotic cells and
counteract host defences.
This review article is taken from Nature journal, under the Nature Publishing Group (NPG). NPG
publishes high impact scientific and medical information both online and in print. Nature was
founded in 1869 and is a leading international weekly scientific journal. In particular, this review
is taken from the Nature Reviews journal, which specialises in many different scientific
disciplines, including Nature Reviews Microbiology, from which this review was taken. As a
result, this journal directly corresponds to the sub discipline of microbiology, making it relevant
and useful for microbiologists and other scientific professionals, as well as a broader public
audience, seeking specific articles on key topics in the field of microbiology.
The purpose of this review is to draw on many sources of information documenting the way in
which pathogenic bacteria targets a variety of host organelles such as the nucleus, the ER, Golgi and
mitochondria by exploiting eukaryotic cells through a number of different processes. It was
determined throughout the review that there is a wide range of host pathogen interactions that
allow for bacterial infection to occur. The

Racism in the Sports Pages Essay
September 1, 1955: The African American Absence
The 1950 s saw the birth of rock and roll and the explosion of television sitcoms. The decade was
also marked by the influx of African American athletes into the sporting world following Jackie
Robinson s debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. However, one would not realize the
significance of African Americans in athletics by reading sports pages during the 1950 s. The
athletic achievements of African Americans were often doomed to the latter pages of sports
sections in favor of advertisements and routine sports articles. The San Francisco Chronicle is guilty
of hiding the impact of African Americans in sports, reflecting a lack of racial tolerance.
It can be said that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The school missed the boat the first time around, as Jackie Robinson, himself, lettered in football
for the Bruins. He was a star on the team as a running back and from all reports was a man of
great character, yet was passed over when it came time to elect the captain of the team.
Hardiman Cureton, a decade later, had more luck than Robinson. He must have been ecstatic to
be elected captain. However, to be called a Negro in the headline of an article written about an
honor bestowed upon him must have felt like a slap in the face. Or maybe it didn t. Maybe he
expected to be called a Negro because it was commonplace in 1950 s American society. The San
Francisco Chronicle certainly portrayed it as such.
The fact that this article even needed to be written says a lot about American society as a whole.
Nowadays, it is fairly uncommon to find a college football team without a black captain. Back
in 1955, the naming of a black captain was news. Maybe it was not news that people had an
interest in reading, as evidenced by the article s short length and less than ideal page placement. If
it truly meant a great amount to the readers or writers of the San Francisco Chronicle, the sports
editor probably would have placed it on the front page of his section. Although this story might not
have been deemed front page material like articles on

Conflict Theory On Society And Human Behavior
Conflict theory is the view that the struggle for power in society and human behavior in social
contexts results from conflicts between competing groups (Siegel, 2015, pg.198). Ted Bundy
always acted alone in his crimes and was never a part of any group that suffered discrimination
or oppression by the government. Dr, Carlisle observed that Bundy was a private person who
won t open up and reveal himself to others. He doesn t want to be known by others (Ramsland,
2011, pg. 113). The most Bundy ever did was volunteer during his high school and early college
years in local political races. Politics gave me the opportunity to be close to people, he said. To
be socially involved with them... as a consequence of working with them. You get very close.
You drink each night and people sleep with each other. It s a sort of built in social life...In
politics you can move between the various strata of society. You can talk and mingle with people
to whom otherwise you would have absolutely no access (Michaud Aynesworth, 2000, pg. 11).
Marxist or Radical theory The Marxists theory was developed by Karl Marx who believed that
modern capitalism had turned workers into a dehumanized mass who lived an existence that was
at the mercy of their employers which led him to conclude that the character of every civilization
is determined by its mode of production (Siegel, 2015, pg. 199). Richard Quinney derived the
radical theory which is derived from the Marxist theory and describes how

Most of the peasants clothing and other daily necessities were produced at home. The men
farmed the land and the women worked at home cooking and weaving cloth. People had no need,
nor did they have the money, to buy foreign manufactured goods However the Opium Wars
instigated major change to the economy through the Treaty of Nanjing among over successive

which allowed a large scope of the coastline of China to be fully accessed by the ships.
Consequently, there have been dramatic increases in the economic activity of China, for

1. Introduction
A literature review is a body of text that determines the aims to review the critical points of
current knowledge including substantive findings as well as theoretical and methodological
contributions to a particular topic. The review of relevant literature is nearly always a standard
chapter of a thesis or dissertation. The review forms an important chapter in a thesis where its
purpose is to provide the background to and justification for the research undertaken. Bruce , who
has published widely on the topic of the literature review, has identified six elements of a literature

The Challenges Of Command Structure In Operation Anaconda
In early January 2002, American intelligence received evidence of a large volume of enemy forces
assembling in the Shahi Kot Valley in Eastern Afghanistan. Central Command (CENTCOM), led by
General Tommy R. Franks, was directing combat operations in Afghanistan through the Coalition
Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) and Coalition Forces Air Component Command
(CFACC). As the interest in assaulting the Shahi Kot Valley amplified, General Franks reached a
conclusion that a U.S. tactical commander was a need in Afghanistan. The decision was to assign
the 10th Mountain DivisionCommander, Major General (MG) Franklin Hagenbeck, as the tactical
commander. In an effort to strengthen MG Hagenbeck s command authority, CENTCOM named
his headquarters Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Mountain and gave it command and control
authority over Operation Anaconda. By having command and control authority, MG Hagenbeck
would encounter challenges with the command structure. The challenges of command structure
were due to CJTF Mountain not having tactical control (TACON) of multiple Special Operation
Forces, the Joint Special Operations Air Component (JSOAC), and friendly Afghanistan forces.
These misunderstandings were resolved during the execution phase, but rectifying the command
relationships prior would have avoided lost time and resources needed on enemy forces and
positions. In this paper, I will identify the challenges of command structure during Operation
Anaconda.

Immoralization In Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
In Walt Whitman song of myself section 52; he expresses his emotions very clearly. A major
theme used in this section is immortalization. Along with immortalization, personification, tone
and the use of vocabulary are important features of this section. Immortalization is used to
connect all things living or not to himself, he also shows how he will continue to live on. In the
beginning of this section he shows some signs of immortalization, writing I sound my barbaric
yawp over the roof of the world. Yawp being a laud cry, he wants everyone to hear what he has to

Anthropomorphism is an interpretation of what is not human in terms of human
characteristics. The hawk at the beginning of the poem is an example of anthropomorphism.
Whitman gives the hawk human actions, it accuses me and it complains of my gab and my
loitering. The complaining the hawk does refer to the fact of what Whitman constantly tried to
show everyone of what he wanted. It seems as if the hawk is tired of hearing what Whitman has
to say, with the line, he complains of my gab and my loitering. In this case gab is to talk in rapid
or thoughtless manner, so according to the hawk Whitman is just talking nonsense. The use of
tone also affects the way this section can be interpreted; the beginning of this section first begins
by accusing Whitman. The spotted hawk swoops by and accuses me... , and then goes on as if it
doesn t bother him if others do accuse him, as long as he is able to say what he wants. As the
section continues there is a shift in tone, he becomes more peaceful and calm. He accepts that it
is his time to leave, but not forever because he will live on. Whitman accepts the fact that he
couldn t make a change but it will come later. His words will filter and fiber your blood of those

Types Of Tumor Affects The Brain
Abstract:
Brain is one of the vital organ in human body, it has an extensive capillary network which is
highly vascularized. The brain capillary endothelial cells (BCECs), astrocytes, pericytes and
neuron forms the blood brain barrier (BBB) [1]. There are several types of tumor affects the brain,
one such type of tumor is Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). GBM is the most frequent and
aggressive form of primary tumor found in central nervous system, the world health organization
(WHO) defined GBM as grade IV astrocytoma [2]. Therefore, this urge us to propose a novel
technique to treat GBM.
Carrier Graphene oxide xxxxxxxxxxx, silica nanocapsules, xxxxxxxxxxx, drugs Doxorubicin
XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, tetrandrine XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, targeting ligands chlorotoxin,
xxxxxxxx transferrin xxxxxxxxxxxx (Zeng please fill this)
And then test for characterization, invitro and invivo for synthesized nanocomplex.
Aim:
The overall aim of this proposal is to synthesis a biocompatible nanocomplex which as an ability
to pass through the BBB and specifically to treat GBM by sustained drug release. Then, to study
the synergistic reinforced effect of two drugs and their resistance against fast clearance. Herein, we
hypothesis, that our synthesized nanocomplex will have increased bioavailability of drugs,
increased specificity for BBB and GBM, reduced drug side effects and finally, has targeted and
sustained drug release.
As illustrated in figure 1 the synthesized nanocomplex

The Impact Of Zombies On Society
In the modern world, media outlets and pop culture constantly revive the idea of zombies taking
over human society. From The Walking Dead to Michael Jackson s Thriller, zombies are
portrayed as slow moving living dead creatures shown in mass amounts to create the idea of
consumption. While this monster as it is depicted in movies and television shows is nonexistent,
there are living zombies walking the surface every day. They hide in the shadows of town and
often only wear the clothes on their back. They spend every day trying to survive with the little
amount of money they can scavenge. Money to them acts as the cure to help them get the
necessary resources they need. Many people in this nation and across the world are categorized as
living under the povertyline. The spectrum of people ranges from homeless and sleeping on the
streets to large families settling in garage sized apartments. Even when taking out of consideration
the similarities in physical appearance, zombies are an accurate representation of the major issue of
poverty in today s society due to the instant eeriness that the stereotypes of both subjects represent
and the idea that the poor are unable to receive the necessary health treatments.
The way higher income families degrade the poor or even the lack of support given to help is
mainly due to the negative stereotypes that are placed on social status. In the article Monsters and

The movie Antz was a great movie in the aspect where the 2 main characters, General Mandible

General Mandible was Fascism . Reason being is because he favours soldiers over the working

Firstly, General Mandible deliberately wanted to leave behind and wanted to kill the working ants

The small claims procedure is regulated by RSA 503 in 1973. It is a simple, speedy, and informal
method by which an individual appears before a judge of the district or municipal court, presents

Claims Court can award up to $5000 in damages (larger claims can be heard, but the maximum that

limited cases; the judge might be given the power to award an additional sum of up to ВЈ135 to
cover the cost of legal advice and assistance in the preparation of the case. I think this idea would
really be useful for claimants, and this would give a huge encouragement to the claimants to come
to the court. Especially for those who cannot actually afford to hire their own lawyer.
Either party may have a lawyer to represent him or her, but this is discouraged by the fact that the
winning party cannot claim back the cost of using a lawyer form the other party, but will have to
pay his own legal expenses. Instead of having a lawyer, the claimant or the defendant may have a
lay representative , that is, a non legally qualified person, with him or her at the hearing to help to
put the case.
The system is meant to be quick, but there can still be delays. Although the intention is that the
case should only go to court once, there may be several hearings because one of the parties is not
ready; for example, they have

The Annual Party Debt Collection Industry Is Notorious For...
MEMORANDUM
Issue Presented
The 3rd party debt collection industry is notorious for skirting the Federal Rules of Evidence and
Civil Procedure from the inception of a lawsuit to the granting of a judgment. Since both of these
ideas do not generally apply to small claims court, and most defendants of these lawsuits are not
represented, this industry has been allowed to run roughshod over the constitutional rights of
defendants and clog the small claims court system with cases that would be easily thrown out of
higher courts.
Question
What can our firm do to assist consumers in their defense of 3rd party debt collection lawsuits when
it is economically infeasible for our firm to represent them?

This transaction is usually done by simply selling a spreadsheet list that merely contains an account
number, the amount owed, the last name of the debtor and possibly an address and phone number.
The amount paid for this information by the junk debt buyer is many times $.03 $.10 on the dollar
of the charged off amount. The reasoning for the original creditor to charge off these account
generally stems from missing or incorrect records or just simply not being worth their time and
money to act on for collection.
The junk debt collector then takes these lists and researches what little information they have
purchased to form a file on who they think owes the debt. Many times the junk debt brokers break
down the information by geographic location and then resells the lists making the debt collector s
job easier. Through the selling and reselling of these debts, the chain of assignment/title is usually
non existent when the lawsuits are filed. Many times the statute of limitations has expired for legal
action to commence, the debtor had already been sued for the said debt, the wrong person is sued
or the debtor does not owe the amount claimed.
Since the Federal Rules of Evidence do not apply to small claims court, the junk debt collectors
focus on only those debts they can file for in small claims. This compounds

What Is The Relationship Between Odysseus And His Men
Book 10
The cyclops and their wrath turned out to be a bigger problem for Odysseus and his men than
they thought, as Poseidon, the God of the seas was their father. Luckily, the managed to get out of
there safely at the end of book nine. Now, a new adventure awaited the home sick shipmates. First,
they landed on the island of Aeolus, where they stayed for a month. They had no way to get home
after this, but this was quickly solved because at the end, Aeolus extended his hospitality and gave
Odysseus and his men a two bags of winds: one in the westward direction, which would lead them
to Ithaca, and the other a bag of stormy winds. As the men saw their home in the horizon, they
carelessly and stubbornly opened the bag with the vile winds thinking ... Show more content on

Eurylochus went to tell Odysseus about the problem, begging him to go. He does not of course,
and, as he goes to save them, a solution to his problem appeared in thin air. The god Hermes, in
the form of a man, gave Odysseus some herbs that would help him resist Circe s power. He was also
warned that the witch had to swear to not play any more tricks on the men. When he went to her
palace, Circe tried to turn Odysseus into an animal, but, after this did not work, she turned the
hogs back into men. Here, another problem arose. The men were put into a trance and Odysseus
most likely became her lover, and this allowed for the men to stay one more year in the island.
The only solution that seemed to work was begging. She lets them go, but she says that they
must first visit Hades and the land of the dead and hear a life changing prophecy. This plays into
steps six and seven of the Hero s Journey. Odysseus makes an allie of Hermes and Circe at the end
of the book, and is tested for one year until he decides to leave and continue his journey home. It
also has to do with step seven because Odysseus and his men were never faced with the wrath of a
god or a which before. He is charmed by a woman who is not his wife, and he sees his men

Obesity And Empiricism In Children
ABSTRACT
In this essay you can find many health definitions as well as the conditions that increases one s
chances of diabetics disease. You could see a realistic example of a little girl that could be at
risk to have diabetes type 2 when she reach maturity cause her mother behavior. The phrase
nature and nurture relates to the relative importance of an individual s innate qualities ( nature in
the sense of nativism or innatism) as compared to an individual s personal experiences ( nurture
in the sense of empiricism or behaviorism) in causing individual differences, especially in

But because the mother was diagnosed before age 50, this child s risk of developing Type 2
diabetes is 1 in 7, according to the American Diabetes Association. If the father is diagnosed as

among young people. Many kids grow up seeing parents or grandparents checking blood sugar
levels and doing insulin injections. But here s the question: If diabetes runs in your family, what s
being passed down a genetic risk or the risky, unhealthy behaviors? The answer: Both.
Funding for health related behavioral and psychosocial interventions should support realistically
long duration efforts. Behavior can be changed: behavioral interventions can successfully teach new
behaviors and attenuate risky behaviors. Maintaining behavior change over time, however, is a
greater challenge. Short term changes in behavior are encouraging, but improved health outcomes
will often require prolonged interventions and lengthy follow up protocols.
Program planners and policy makers need to consider modifying social and societal conditions to

Gymnastics was a big part of my life and I was very excited when I got my first complicated skill it
had taken me about 2 years to get the skill. It was Saturday and my day started off by eating some
breakfast, my mom had made pancakes and bacon and they were delicious. I finished off my
breakfast and my dad told me to go get ready because we were going to run some errands and so I
did, I picked out this red shirt with free shoulder it was kind of big on me so, it looked like a dress
but I liked it that way, to go with the long red shirt. I picked out some black tights because they
seemed comfy. On my hair, I did a half up half down with a bun at the top and I got my favorite

kept my room clean all year I would be able to get a new phone, I cleaned my bed and rushed out
the door. When my family and I were in the car, my dad started singing and I was cringing so
hard but, I didn t tell him anything because that would be rude. We stopped at Winco to get
groceries. My brother was excited because whenever we went to the grocery store he would get

The Effects Of ImmigrantsAgquisition Of English As A...
Sociologists typically assume that immigrants acquisition of English as a second language follows
the opportunities and motivations to become proficient in English, while many linguists argue that
second language acquisition may be governed by maturational constraints, possibly biologically
based, that are tied to the age at onset of language learning. In this article, I use U.S. census data to
investigate the relationship between age at onset of second language learning and levels of English
language proficiency among foreign born adults in the United States. The overarching conclusion is
that proficiency in a second language among adults is strongly related to age at immigration. Part of
that relationship is attributable to social and demo graphic considerations tied to age at entry into a
new country, and part may be attributable to maturational constraints.( Age at immigration
acquisition of language, English as second language, second language proficiency)* When
investigating second language (L2) acquisition among immigrants, sociologists and economists
often rely on exposure or human capital frame works, in which L2 learning is prompted by
opportunities and motivations to become proficient in English. Much of this research shows that
social and demo graphic factors, such as length of residence in the U.S. and educational attainment,
strongly predict levels of proficiency in English among foreign born adults. Linguists, by contrast,
start from the premise that

Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet
It is very common for human to confuse infatuation with true love. According to the Triangular
Theory of Love by Robert J. Sternberg love is composed of three main parts. These parts are
intimacy, passion, and commitment. Intimacy is distinguished by concern, understanding, and
closeness between two partners. Intimacy usually takes a long time to build up and is something
that can t be generated in a few days. Passion is portrayed as the desire to be with one s partner.
Passion tends to build up quickly but vanishes rapidly as well. Finally commitment is described as
the willingness to endure a long lasting relationship. With these three parts can true loveonly be

Passion is the fierce inclination to be in someone s presence. Having passion is similar to an
addiction. In a beginning of a relationship there is a high level of passion but fades as time
progresses. Eventually the high of the relationship becomes less and less rewarding. This
passion can be seen the when Romeo has to leave Juliet after concealing the marriage. At first
Romeo tries to leave as quickly as possible. He says I must be gone and live, or stay and die
(3.5.11). However since Romeo has so much passion for Juliet he is convinced by Juliet stay
even though he would be killed by the Capulet s kinsman. He says Come, death, and welcome!
Juliet wills it so./ How is t, my soul? Let s talk. It is not day (3.3.24 25). Another example of the
passion both Romeo and Juliet share is when they both are able to overcome the feud between the
Capulet and Montague households. This feud between the Capulet and Montague household has
been going on for generations but because Romeo and Juliet has so much passion for each other
they are able to overlook the fact that they are from rivalling

Rafael LeГіnidas Trujillo Molina Governed The Dominican

However, blinded by the threat of the cold war their the plan failed, since as we can see
throughout the novel, what the people got in exchange from Trujillo was far worse; genocide,
terror, rape and pillage, etc. Vargas Llosa uses violent language and profanities to express
Trujillo s aggressive behaviour and cruel, bitter attitude towards those around him. He refers to
others in racist terms, which reveals from as very early stage his xenophobic mindset and
absolute superiority; this is clearly true due to his intolerance for other races and nationalities.
His character also uses an abundance of homophobic slurs and seems very concerned by only
associating with manly men. Nearly every woman Trujillo comes across is considered as a
sexual object for him to own, in a way that is almost primal. Most females he comes across in the
novel are referred to as bitch , showing clear disregard for the opposite sex and even deep rooted
anger towards them; we later learn that this is due to his sexual difficulty with Urania which turns
into frustration. However, faced with this clear sign of his ageing and decline, Trujillo is unable to
confront his own reality, and turns viciously against the closest thing he can blame other than
himself: women. We cannot rely wholly on this depiction of Trujillo as a dictator. First and

The Relationship Between Height And Diameter Of Limpet
The relationship between height and diameter of Limpet (Patella vulgata) shells and whether it
differs between exposed and sheltered environments Abstract Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in
algae rich environments on rocky shores. . It has been proposed that in more sheltered areas,
limpet shells will grow to be flatter with a larger diameter, while in more exposed areas of
coastline, they will grow a taller and narrower shell shape. To find out whether or not the shores
of Aberdeen reflected this, samples were taken from two sites (Site A and Site B) along the
Aberdeen coastline that varied in their exposure to wave action. The sites were chosen to
provide two sample sites with a notable difference in their environment. In the more sheltered
site A, limpets were not exposed to harsh waves, while at site B, there was significantly more
wave action. Quadrats were used at both sites to provide an area of sampling for the limpets and
they were placed around 5 meters from the waterline. The overall results from the study showed
that there is a very strong relationship between diameter and height in Limpet shells and that there
was an incredibly slight difference in the relationship between the two sites. 1.Introduction

The World War I At The Time Known As The Great War
World War I, at the time known as the Great War, was a global war that happened mainly in

who doesn t have a thorough knowledge about the War would be quick to say the causes were

Militarism, on the other hand, is the belief or wish of a government or people that a country
should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or
promote national interests. During this time European countries increased their military might far
beyond what was necessary for a strong national defense; a large standing army symbolized
power. This made easy for a government to immediately use the force when any dispute broke
among nations. Finally was the Slavic brotherhood between Russia and Serbia. They have
common ancestry and origin. Russia responded to that bond by backing up Serbia. This is very
important because if Russia wouldn t have joined the war, it would have been only between Austria
Hungary with Germany s support and Serbia.
The main economical causes were the second industrial revolution and the Balkan Wars. The
second industrial revolution brought a rise in the economy due to all the new inventions and
discoveries. One of the most important was the petroleum industry which begun in Scotland in the
late 1840s. Also, the increase in steel production meant that rails could be built at a better price and
with a much more durable material. This revolution brought the increase in many technologies used

Monarchy Vs. Constitutional Monarchy
Absolute Monarchy vs Constitutional Monarchy
The difference between absolute monarchy and constitutional monarchy is that in the absolute
monarchy, the monarch holds the supreme or absolute powers, whereas in the constitutional
monarchy, the head of state is a hereditary or elected monarch.
The law within a constitutional monarchy might be different from the law within an absolute
monarchy. Differences between absolute and constitutional monarchies emerged during the

Absolute Monarchy in France: Louis XIV
An Absolute Monarch Rises Soon after Louis XIV became king, disorder again swept France. In
an uprising called the Fronde, nobles, merchants, peasants, and the urban poor each rebelled in
order to protest royal power or preserve their own. On one occasion, rioters drove the boy king
from his palace. It was an experience Louis would never forget. When Mazarin died in 1661, the
23 year old Louis resolved to take complete control over the government himself. I have been

Global Warming And Its Effects On The Human Body
Global pollution will nevertheless become a bigger problem than just the melting of the arctic
iceberg, or the nearby extinction of several species, but it will, in eventually in near future, result in
the extinction of humanity in this planet. Global warming, a term that mean the Earth itself is
becoming hotter and hotter. Mr. Bill McKibben, an American environmentalist and writer said in
his report about global warming, We ve raised the temperaturemore than a degree Fahrenheit (0.56

people should be concern about; however, this is a global scale and to some country, .56 degrees is

number of additional frameworks, libraries, and reusable modules are available within the stack
which helps business achieve greater benefits when it comes to development speed. So by
helping deliver modern and readymade solutions which can significantly save time while
making development less strenuous, MEAN stack can be an excellent option for start ups due
to its shorter development cycles and lower development costs. Why MERN? The essence of
the MERN stack is to build and deliver websites similar to desktop and mobile apps. MEAN.Js is
a platform that gives enterprises and businesses the agility, performance and intelligence they
need to drive their business forward. Because users of the web demand high levels of
performance and interactivity, so javascript is at the core of many technologies. Javascript has
become interface to the web. It has greatly evolved over the decades. Today Javascript is not just
about adding visual effects to websites infact its a lot more than that and plays a role in
implementing application logic and database access. MERN stack is also carving out a small

John Stuart Mill Tyranny Of Majority
1.Introduction There are different and various groups who have their own interest and agenda.
One of the values that a democratic system tries to achieve is equal representation to all of the
groups that it embraces. However, people often fear whether a particular group will project more
influence than others. Due to the nature of democratic system where the decision is made
according to the majority rule, many critics argue the possibility of tyranny by majority where
the group with the most number of members rules in favor of its preference over the interests of
other groups who are considered to be minority with less members. Furthermore, people fear
whether such majority favored interest will be forced up on minority groups who do not agree
with such view of the majority. Such takeover of majority in politics is what we call tyranny of
majority However, others believe that minority group can also become a tyrant in a society,
triumphing over the majority of a society. Contrary to the widespread fear of... Show more content

This again poses another need to set the boundary for enforcing majority opinion over other
individuals whose independence should also get respectable recognition. While this is a topic that
is neglected by many democratic systems, Mill laid out the central argument to his essay that
interfering individual liberty by others or society as a whole can only be allowed under self
protection when the individual in concern poses a threat to others. Other than such circumstance,
he strongly believed in the minimum level of enforcement of majority opinion on the minority,
saying that Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign. Which
highlights the importance of one s sovereignty over his or her body and

The Seven Gothic Tales By Karen Blixen Christensen
The Seven Gothic Tales is a collection of short stories that was published in 1934 by the author
Karen Blixen Christensen under her pseudonym Isak Dinesen. It is a collection of seven stories
that is included among them The Deluge of Norderney, The Supper at Elsinore, The Monkey and
The Old Chevalier among others. The first two stories listed above are the most well known of the
seven talesand amongst the authors most famous works. The book has been described as a modern
classic that contains seven stories which combine the psychological insight that is characteristic of
the short stories in the modern age with the gothic style writing that are characteristic of the tales in
the nineteenth century. Karen was a well known Danish author who rose to prominence with the
publishing of this collection of short stories as well as her most famous piece of work, the memoir
named Out of Africa.
Many of the subplots that are contained in this book deal with the issue of the aristocracy in Europe
whose influence at the time was waning during the mid nineteenth century. The struggle for the
aristocracy, concerned with the passing down their heredity through the generations, was concern
that their breeding lines had been illegitimated; this is a major plot in the short tale The Deluge of
Norderney .
Most of the stories also contain an element of the supernatural. The theme brought about here is that
rather than being the forces that control the path of their destinies, men are

The Effects Of Nicotine Dependence On Adolescents
Hypothesis:
In the study it was hypothesized that as the nicotine dependence progresses it would lead to low
positivity in the mood, high negativity in the mood, and higher mood variability. The study also
observed whether nicotine dependence in a person changes after increasing the frequency of the
person smoking during the course of the study.
Methods:
a.Participants
In the study, the participants who were recruited were from the SECASP project. The study was a
longitudinal study based on examining the smoking behavior amidst 12,970 young adolescents,
studying in high school in ninth and tenth grade, recruited from 16 different Chicago high schools.
These young participants were examined based on their smoking behavior and the results were
used as part of the longitudinal study by associating it with 1,263 participants with variability in
smoking experiences. However, a part of the study s data was collected to observe the mood
behavior associated with smoking, but the result of the effects did not show any nicotine
dependence change. (Piasecki, Hedeker, Dierker, and Mermelstein, 2014)
On the other hand, the research study also had a sub study known as the EMA study in which out
of 461 young participants 329 data was analyzed reporting their smoking behavior past 30 days,
and completing their EMA recording and their Nicotine Dependence scale. Based on the criteria of
the study, 80% of the participants over a period of six months gave information regarding their

becoming scofflaws. The author s purpose is to warn people of breaking laws so that he can
protect the law from the violent crimes. The author s gives an authoritative tone for people who
follow the rules a lot. Following the rules won t make a fool, rules make everything looks better, if
there is no rules, crimes will rise too high. Rules just make your life go easier.

Descartes Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God
Section 6
Matthew Shields

Descartes Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The Ontological Argument for the existence of God is an a priori argument that aims to
demonstrate that God s real world existence follows necessarily from the concept of God. In
Meditation V of Discourse on Methods and Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes presents his
version of the Ontological Argument for the existence of God. In this essay, I will argue that this
argument fails because necessary existence for a concept does not entail its real world existence.
Descartes argument for the existence of God relies on two key assertions:
1. His understanding of God as an infinite, independent being.
2. His claim that existence is a perfection.
In Meditation III, Descartes clarifies his understanding of God to be a substance that is infinite,
eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful, and which created
both myself and everything else (if anything else there be) that exists. It is important to note that in
speaking of God as infinite, Descartes seems to mean that God is infinitely perfect. He asserts God,
I take to be actually infinite, so that nothing can be added to his perfection. (p. 32) Descartes
understands God as a uniquely infinite and independent entity that exists by its own nature. By
contrast, all other entities are finite and contingent beings that must depend on another entity for
their existence. This

The Egyptian Revolution
The Egyptian Revolution started due to the people s discontent towards the government of Hosni
Mubarak. Grievances of Egyptian protesters were focused on legal and political issues including
police brutality, state of emergency laws, lack of free elections and freedom of speech, corruption,
and economic issues including high unemployment, food price inflation and low wages. Soon after
the overthrown of Mubarak s government Morsi was elected in a democratic way. A coup d Г©tat
led by the Minister of defense General Abdel Fattah El Sisi overthrew Morsi and massive popular
demonstrations against military rule started.
Egypt is facing a deep threat to human rights due to violent confrontations between the Egyptian
Government and the revolutionary groups. Navi Pillay has stated her worry about Egyptian people
when in a press communication said: [she] hopes that the rule of law and a system of government
that respects the human rights of all Egyptians men and women can be quickly re established .
Several experts have voiced their concern in regard of the way human rights have been dismissed
by several people; they stated the death poll have raised over 600 including women, young people,
and members of the media. These serious violations of international human rights law must not
remain unpunished, they underscored.
During the Egyptian Revolution the United Nations have had a passive role in which they have not
interact in the most formidable way to approach this conflict.

being that it illustrates the issues humanity has with using technology. Another reason I decided to

that the shattered screen likely has something to do with technology failing humanity. She
elaborated by saying that she thought the cracked screen illustrated the flaws of technology. She
concluded by saying that as technology continues to advance there will always be flaws. In
comparison, my professor s perception to the sculpture and mine were very

Omela Is The Perfect Utopian By Ursula Le Guin
In her plotless 1973 short story, Ursula Le Guin tells the story of a utopian city called Omelas in
which everyone is happy and joyful. Much of Omelas is left to the reader s imagination, the
narrator explaining that they can t possibly please everyone, but this much is concrete: Omelas
has no priests, no soldiers, no slaves, no king; there is only laughter, drugs, and if one wishes to
imagine their availability, orgies. Omelas is the perfect utopia. Le Guin herself even goes so far
as to point out what the reader is likely thinking: Omelas sounds too perfect to be real; surely this
city is a fairytale. To assuage the reader s doubts, the narrator tells the story of Omelas only
suffering: a captive child. The exact details of this child are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The fact that everyone is taught about the sacrifice keeps it from being a scandal. In this
scenario, if anyone had found out about it, it would shatter the facade of happiness; the
government is keeping a poor, starving child in the basement of city hall as a sacrifice for our
happiness! This isn t real happiness! This would likely result in the liberation of the child and
subsequent fall of Rome, so to speak. Omelas transparency about this child prevents scandal and
outrage, and make the child into an other . Historically speaking, humans have always dealt with
many conflicts such as guilt, religious and cultural differences, and internal moral conflict by

Neil Postman Amusing Ourselves To Death Analysis
Neil Postman; cultural critic, author, and teacher extraordinaire, spent his career warning and
educating about the role technology was beginning to play in society. He wrote all of his books,
articles, and speeches by hand and reportedly never met a computer or typewriter that he liked.
He also never published an academic journal article due to his belief that his ideas were meant to
be read by all, not exclusively a handful of scholars. In today s age of technological overload, just
thirty years after his most well known book Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman is revered
as a prophet as more and more of our media consumption becomes purely for entertainment
purposes. According to Postman a metaphor is the way in which our forms

Galileo because before the use of his telescope, the formation of stars was a confusion to most

was composed of a huge number of faint stars. There was a confusion on stars. Until 1920,
astronomers thought that all stars were contained inside of the Milky Way. After Galileo s

  • 2. Nucleic Acid Investigation The purpose of the introductory activity was to analyze the pH of a mixture of a strong base and weak acid. The purpose of the guided inquiry lab was to analyze the concentration of sodium carbonate by titrating the substance using a nitic acid solution. Introductory Activity 5 mL of both 0.2 M ammonia and 0.1 M acetic acid were placed in separate test tubes and their pH was determined with pH paper. A mixture was created by pouring both together and its final pH was recorded. The strength of the acid and base was determined and whether the two had equal concentration. Each indicator was researched (its colors when it s acidic/basic and its pH transition range) and phenolphthalein was deemed suitable for this experiment. 5 mL of acetic acid was poured into a test tube and 1 2 drops of phenolphthalein were added. The initial color was recorded. 10 mL of ammonia was obtained in a graduated cylinder and using the graduated pipet, the base was added to the acid in 1 mL increments. Upon reaching the equivalence point, the indicator color and the amount of base required to obtain this point were recorded. The relative concentrations of the acid and base were then estimated. A 60 mL Poorman s buret was placed on a support stand above a beaker with a magnetic stirrer. The sides of the beaker and flask were rinsed with water. 100 mL of nitric acid was collected and placed in the beaker below the buret. Approximately 3 drops of methyl red indicator were added. After being rinsed with water and sodium carbonate, the buret was filled with 60 mL of nitric acid. The beaker was placed 2 cm under the buret. Then the sodium carbonate was titrated until the methyl red changed from red to yellow. The final buret reading was recorded to determine the final volume of the base. The titration data was used to graph a titration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Raami In Vaddey Ratner s In The Shadow Of The Banyan In the Shadow of the Banyan, by Vaddey Ratner, details the struggles of Raami, a young girl coming of age in a time of the Cambodian genocide. The descriptions from Raami s point of view are vivid. She is forced to leave her childhood behind with the regime of the Khmer Rouge. As a Cambodian child, her life transformed from living as a princess with many privileges to living life day to day on the move, witnessing such terror, is quite the turnaround for anyone especially a child. She processes her experience as best as a child her age can, based on pure emotions. She s at an age where children make sense of things with naivety. As the story continues, the descriptions of what she sees changes. As I have mentioned, Raami does not fully comprehend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Theme Of Marigolds By Eugenia Collier In Marigolds , a short story by Eugenia Collier, the experiences of the protagonist support one of the many themes that growing up will deprive you of the innocence that you used to have as a child. She develops the theme that one cannot have both compassion and innocence. Through the use of several literary techniques such as symbolism, conflict, resolution, and irony, the author conveys through the protagonist, the overall theme of this short story. There are many situations that the main character goes through that show the reader the true meaning of this. Lizabeth, the main character, transforms from a violent carefree girl to a mature responsible woman by the end of the story. Lizabeth is the protagonist who faces many problem from the beginning. My mother, who was small and soft, was now the strength of the family; my father, who was the rock on which the family had been built, was sobbing like the tiniest child Where did I fit into this broken picture? I do not now remember my thoughts, only a feeling of great bewilderment and fear. Even up to now, Lizabeth is still acting as if she is a child. She cannot control her emotion whatsoever because right after she hears of this news, she cannot fall asleep. She decides to do what she wants. And, she wants to take out all of her anger. The early Victorian years are marked with the developments in economics, social life, religion and the government. The major governmental reformations can be seen in the Reform Acts of 1832 which introduced changes in the electoral system in order to increase seats in the House of Commons, to the large cities that had emerged during the Industrial Revolution; being followed by the Reform Act of 1867, which doubled the number of adult males that could vote; and the Reform Act of 1884 that targeted the rural areas, so they could have the same right to vote as the urban areas. • 7. Why Is It Better To Stand Out I believe that it is better to stand out rather than to fit in. When you stand out, you are able to learn so many things about yourself that you never knew about. But first, you need to stand out from the crowd, do what matters to you and change the world for the better. By being yourself, it allows people to follow in your footsteps by becoming a leader, not a follower. For example, in a garden bed there are a million of white flowers, but one rose. That one rose is unique and everyone wants that one since it is different from the rest. By fitting in, people are killing their own creativity just to be accepted to be like others. We feel pressured to measure up to the same standard as everyone else to satisfy people s needs and wants. We want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Seven Layers in the OSI Model 1. This class made me learn quite a lot. Though it was a course I have done in my under graduate, this class helped me to learn more about the networking. The class was interactive and fun, the lab sessions were very helpful. The project was one of the best parts of the whole course. It made me look into and study about various new protocols in networking and finally I could get an idea on how I could design a protocol by myself. The most important thing I learnt in this class is the detailed functions and uses of every later in the OSI model, and I also realized that TCP is the most important protocol of all that I learnt. It is very reliable and provides acknowledgement, and is a full duplex process. It provides congestion control and flow control and is also a connection oriented service. On an overall this class made me learn a lot that would always be very helpful to me. 2. The seven Layers in the OSI model are Physical Layer, Link Layer, Network Layer, Transport Layer, Session Layer, Application Layer and the presentation Layer. Each layer has a specific function to perform and consist of different protocols. Physical layer is the lowest one and handles transmission and reception of messages over the medium. Then comes the link layer , it allows error free transmission of the data frames in the physical layer. The network layer takes care of processes like routing, traffic control and fragmentation of the data. The next one is the transport layer, it takes care of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Power Of Depression By Joyce Hocker And William Wilmot Power of Depression In most situations the term power is looked at between one person or group and another. The same perspective from the textbook Interpersonal Conflict written by Joyce Hocker and William Wilmot can be applied when looking at the lack of internal power when going through a phase of depression. The type of power, level of power, solutions, as well as the RICE perspective can all be associated with myself and my depressed state I went through for a few months. Distributive power is a power of domination which forces or manipulates a person into a low power role or situation. Within a distributive form of power, power itself becomes the main focus of thinking and discussion by the person of low power. In regard to my personal experience with depression, the incident is just that definition. In the instance of depression it forced and manipulated myself to have a lack of power towards my feelings and motivations. The constant battle is trying to figure out how to escape the hurt, and helplessness you feel internally. Escaping and gaining power within becomes the main desire as soon as you recognize that you can no longer handle the pain. Thus, you are in a battle of distributive power fighting between you and the depression building inside of you. Wilmot and Hocker defined interpersonal power as the ability to influence relational partner in any context because you control, or at least the partner perceives that you control, resources that the ... Scientific Literature Essay Elise Foxall (Word Count=) The review article chosen is titled, Targeting of host organelles by pathogenic bacteria: a sophisticated subversion strategy . It was published on the 23rd of November 2013 and written by Pedro Escoll, Sonia Mondino, Monica Rolando and Carmen Buchrieser of the Institut Pasteur in France. It explores how it has been discovered that bacterial pathogens have evolved to override normal eukaryotic cell behaviour in order to enter these cells and replicate, as well as shutting down the immune responses against these pathogens by reversing the roles of eukaryotic immune defence cells. The article itself is directed towards the scientific community,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evolutionary microbiology is the study of the evolution of microbes. This review focuses on how bacterial pathogenic cells have evolved alongside normal eukaryotic host cells, leading to the development of mechanisms that allowed bacterial cells to take over eukaryotic cells and counteract host defences. This review article is taken from Nature journal, under the Nature Publishing Group (NPG). NPG publishes high impact scientific and medical information both online and in print. Nature was founded in 1869 and is a leading international weekly scientific journal. In particular, this review is taken from the Nature Reviews journal, which specialises in many different scientific disciplines, including Nature Reviews Microbiology, from which this review was taken. As a result, this journal directly corresponds to the sub discipline of microbiology, making it relevant and useful for microbiologists and other scientific professionals, as well as a broader public audience, seeking specific articles on key topics in the field of microbiology. The purpose of this review is to draw on many sources of information documenting the way in which pathogenic bacteria targets a variety of host organelles such as the nucleus, the ER, Golgi and mitochondria by exploiting eukaryotic cells through a number of different processes. It was determined throughout the review that there is a wide range of host pathogen interactions that allow for bacterial infection to occur. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Racism in the Sports Pages Essay September 1, 1955: The African American Absence The 1950 s saw the birth of rock and roll and the explosion of television sitcoms. The decade was also marked by the influx of African American athletes into the sporting world following Jackie Robinson s debut for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. However, one would not realize the significance of African Americans in athletics by reading sports pages during the 1950 s. The athletic achievements of African Americans were often doomed to the latter pages of sports sections in favor of advertisements and routine sports articles. The San Francisco Chronicle is guilty of hiding the impact of African Americans in sports, reflecting a lack of racial tolerance. It can be said that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The school missed the boat the first time around, as Jackie Robinson, himself, lettered in football for the Bruins. He was a star on the team as a running back and from all reports was a man of great character, yet was passed over when it came time to elect the captain of the team. Hardiman Cureton, a decade later, had more luck than Robinson. He must have been ecstatic to be elected captain. However, to be called a Negro in the headline of an article written about an honor bestowed upon him must have felt like a slap in the face. Or maybe it didn t. Maybe he expected to be called a Negro because it was commonplace in 1950 s American society. The San Francisco Chronicle certainly portrayed it as such. The fact that this article even needed to be written says a lot about American society as a whole. Nowadays, it is fairly uncommon to find a college football team without a black captain. Back in 1955, the naming of a black captain was news. Maybe it was not news that people had an interest in reading, as evidenced by the article s short length and less than ideal page placement. If it truly meant a great amount to the readers or writers of the San Francisco Chronicle, the sports editor probably would have placed it on the front page of his section. Although this story might not have been deemed front page material like articles on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Job Stress Over the past few decades, many people are hearing more about job related stress. With many households depending on duel incomes, people are working more and having less leisure time. Many claim that job stress has contributed to such illnesses as heart disease, depression, gastric problems, exhaustion, and many other related illnesses. This paper will focus on the background issues surrounding stress; as well as, the steps that need to be taken by one #8217;s self and the employer. According to The Random House Dictionary, stress is defined as #8220;physical, mental, or emotional tension. #8221; Job stress occurs when demands are imposed upon the workers in which they can not meet those demands, or when there are not... Once pleasant activities become quite difficult, and the ability to communicate in social affairs or talking with friends becomes quite burdensome. There is more difficulty sleeping with the occurrence of unpleasant King 4 dreams. The stressed individual develops a feeling of negativism, inability to concentrate, and nameless fears. Stage five is represented by a deepening of the stage four symptoms along with extreme fatigue (Bensahel et al., 1984, p. 137). The final stage can produce terrifying symptoms. This can include heart pounding and panic caused by release of adrenaline. There is often gasping for breath, trembling, shivering, sweating, numb and tingling hands and feet, and sheer exhaustion. The symptoms of stress are frequently conflicting and confusing. #8220;The stress disorder is essentially a step by step exhaustion of the body #8217;s fuel reserves #8221; (Bensahel et al., 1984, p. 139) During the early 1980s, workers compensation claims nearly tripled for those reporting stress related illness due to work (Schor, 1991, p. 11). There has been a dramatic increase in the number of stress related illnesses, particularly among women. Jobs have been a major contributing factor to this stress. • 13. Conflict Theory On Society And Human Behavior Conflict theory is the view that the struggle for power in society and human behavior in social contexts results from conflicts between competing groups (Siegel, 2015, pg.198). Ted Bundy always acted alone in his crimes and was never a part of any group that suffered discrimination or oppression by the government. Dr, Carlisle observed that Bundy was a private person who won t open up and reveal himself to others. He doesn t want to be known by others (Ramsland, 2011, pg. 113). The most Bundy ever did was volunteer during his high school and early college years in local political races. Politics gave me the opportunity to be close to people, he said. To be socially involved with them... as a consequence of working with them. You get very close. You drink each night and people sleep with each other. It s a sort of built in social life...In politics you can move between the various strata of society. You can talk and mingle with people to whom otherwise you would have absolutely no access (Michaud Aynesworth, 2000, pg. 11). Marxist or Radical theory The Marxists theory was developed by Karl Marx who believed that modern capitalism had turned workers into a dehumanized mass who lived an existence that was at the mercy of their employers which led him to conclude that the character of every civilization is determined by its mode of production (Siegel, 2015, pg. 199). • 17. The Challenges Of Command Structure In Operation Anaconda In early January 2002, American intelligence received evidence of a large volume of enemy forces assembling in the Shahi Kot Valley in Eastern Afghanistan. Central Command (CENTCOM), led by General Tommy R. Franks, was directing combat operations in Afghanistan through the Coalition Forces Land Component Command (CFLCC) and Coalition Forces Air Component Command (CFACC). As the interest in assaulting the Shahi Kot Valley amplified, General Franks reached a conclusion that a U.S. tactical commander was a need in Afghanistan. The decision was to assign the 10th Mountain DivisionCommander, Major General (MG) Franklin Hagenbeck, as the tactical commander. In an effort to strengthen MG Hagenbeck s command authority, CENTCOM named his headquarters Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Mountain and gave it command and control authority over Operation Anaconda. By having command and control authority, MG Hagenbeck would encounter challenges with the command structure. The challenges of command structure were due to CJTF Mountain not having tactical control (TACON) of multiple Special Operation Forces, the Joint Special Operations Air Component (JSOAC), and friendly Afghanistan forces. These misunderstandings were resolved during the execution phase, but rectifying the command relationships prior would have avoided lost time and resources needed on enemy forces and positions. Along with immortalization, personification, tone and the use of vocabulary are important features of this section. Immortalization is used to connect all things living or not to himself, he also shows how he will continue to live on. In the beginning of this section he shows some signs of immortalization, writing I sound my barbaric yawp over the roof of the world. Yawp being a laud cry, he wants everyone to hear what he has to say. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropomorphism is an interpretation of what is not human in terms of human characteristics. The hawk at the beginning of the poem is an example of anthropomorphism. Whitman gives the hawk human actions, it accuses me and it complains of my gab and my loitering. The complaining the hawk does refer to the fact of what Whitman constantly tried to show everyone of what he wanted. It seems as if the hawk is tired of hearing what Whitman has to say, with the line, he complains of my gab and my loitering. In this case gab is to talk in rapid or thoughtless manner, so according to the hawk Whitman is just talking nonsense. The use of tone also affects the way this section can be interpreted; the beginning of this section first begins by accusing Whitman. The spotted hawk swoops by and accuses me... , and then goes on as if it doesn t bother him if others do accuse him, as long as he is able to say what he wants. As the section continues there is a shift in tone, he becomes more peaceful and calm. He accepts that it is his time to leave, but not forever because he will live on. From The Walking Dead to Michael Jackson s Thriller, zombies are portrayed as slow moving living dead creatures shown in mass amounts to create the idea of consumption. While this monster as it is depicted in movies and television shows is nonexistent, there are living zombies walking the surface every day. They hide in the shadows of town and often only wear the clothes on their back. They spend every day trying to survive with the little amount of money they can scavenge. Money to them acts as the cure to help them get the necessary resources they need. Many people in this nation and across the world are categorized as living under the povertyline. The spectrum of people ranges from homeless and sleeping on the streets to large families settling in garage sized apartments. Even when taking out of consideration the similarities in physical appearance, zombies are an accurate representation of the major issue of poverty in today s society due to the instant eeriness that the stereotypes of both subjects represent and the idea that the poor are unable to receive the necessary health treatments. • 34. The Effects Of ImmigrantsAgquisition Of English As A... Sociologists typically assume that immigrants acquisition of English as a second language follows the opportunities and motivations to become proficient in English, while many linguists argue that second language acquisition may be governed by maturational constraints, possibly biologically based, that are tied to the age at onset of language learning. In this article, I use U.S. census data to investigate the relationship between age at onset of second language learning and levels of English language proficiency among foreign born adults in the United States. The overarching conclusion is that proficiency in a second language among adults is strongly related to age at immigration. Part of that relationship is attributable to social and demo graphic considerations tied to age at entry into a new country, and part may be attributable to maturational constraints.( Age at immigration acquisition of language, English as second language, second language proficiency)* When investigating second language (L2) acquisition among immigrants, sociologists and economists often rely on exposure or human capital frame works, in which L2 learning is prompted by opportunities and motivations to become proficient in English. Sternberg love is composed of three main parts. These parts are intimacy, passion, and commitment. Intimacy is distinguished by concern, understanding, and closeness between two partners. Intimacy usually takes a long time to build up and is something that can t be generated in a few days. Passion is portrayed as the desire to be with one s partner. Passion tends to build up quickly but vanishes rapidly as well. Finally commitment is described as the willingness to endure a long lasting relationship. The Relationship Between Height And Diameter Of Limpet The relationship between height and diameter of Limpet (Patella vulgata) shells and whether it differs between exposed and sheltered environments Abstract Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in algae rich environments on rocky shores. . It has been proposed that in more sheltered areas, limpet shells will grow to be flatter with a larger diameter, while in more exposed areas of coastline, they will grow a taller and narrower shell shape. To find out whether or not the shores of Aberdeen reflected this, samples were taken from two sites (Site A and Site B) along the Aberdeen coastline that varied in their exposure to wave action. The sites were chosen to provide two sample sites with a notable difference in their environment. In the more sheltered site A, limpets were not exposed to harsh waves, while at site B, there was significantly more wave action. Quadrats were used at both sites to provide an area of sampling for the limpets and they were placed around 5 meters from the waterline. The overall results from the study showed that there is a very strong relationship between diameter and height in Limpet shells and that there was an incredibly slight difference in the relationship between the two sites. 1.Introduction Limpets (Patella vulgate) live in algae rich environments on rocky shores. One of the values that a democratic system tries to achieve is equal representation to all of the groups that it embraces. However, people often fear whether a particular group will project more influence than others. Due to the nature of democratic system where the decision is made according to the majority rule, many critics argue the possibility of tyranny by majority where the group with the most number of members rules in favor of its preference over the interests of other groups who are considered to be minority with less members. Furthermore, people fear whether such majority favored interest will be forced up on minority groups who do not agree with such view of the majority. • 49. Descartes Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God Section 6 Matthew Shields Word Count: 10/30/2014 Descartes Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The Ontological Argument for the existence of God is an a priori argument that aims to demonstrate that God s real world existence follows necessarily from the concept of God. In Meditation V of Discourse on Methods and Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes presents his version of the Ontological Argument for the existence of God. In this essay, I will argue that this argument fails because necessary existence for a concept does not entail its real world existence. Descartes argument for the existence of God relies on two key assertions: 1. His understanding of God as an infinite, independent being. 2. His claim that existence is a perfection. In Meditation III, Descartes clarifies his understanding of God to be a substance that is infinite, eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful, and which created both myself and everything else (if anything else there be) that exists. It is important to note that in speaking of God as infinite, Descartes seems to mean that God is infinitely perfect. He asserts God, I take to be actually infinite, so that nothing can be added to his perfection. (p. 32) Descartes understands God as a uniquely infinite and independent entity that exists by its own nature. By contrast, all other entities are finite and contingent beings that must depend on another entity for their existence. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Astronomers for centuries have pointed their telescopes toward the Milky Way trying to discover the mysteries the galaxy holds. The white light that one can see is known to be the origin of our solar system. Milky Way galaxy is a gravitational bound system consisting of stars, stellar remnants, an interstellar medium of gas and dust, and dark matter. It was named after the milk because of its appearance. It happen to look as a dim glowing arching across the night sky that can only be seen by the telescope. The Milky Way is a combination of different aspects that contributes to its incredibility. These include the age, surrounding galaxies, and clusters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Milky Way was first determined by Galileo Galilei with his telescope in 1610. Thanks to Galileo because before the use of his telescope, the formation of stars was a confusion to most astronomers. With the use of a telescope, Galileo studied the Milky Way and discovered that it was composed of a huge number of faint stars. There was a confusion on stars. Until 1920, astronomers thought that all stars were contained inside of the Milky Way. After Galileo s telescope, other astronomers became more creative on understanding that the Milky Way is just one of many galaxies now known to be billions. The Milky Way contains more than one planet like the solar system which is located within the disk. The solar system is located on the constellation of gas and dust called the Orion Arm (Wikipedia contributors). We are located in the Orion arm of the Milky Way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
