school or end up in prison. It is thought that by diagnosing ADHD early and treating it properly,
children who might not have had a chance to succeed can now be successful. The advocates for

The choice of the location was guided by the fact that Uganda is among the low income countries
with 39% of young children compromised mental development (Graham MacGregor e tal, 2007).
The district had experienced civil conflicts for many years. Conflicts had decreased and families
had started to return to their homes. The study was an affirmation of the responsive parenting
approaches that uphold warm accepting behaviors, response to children needs signal and
significance of child development. The implementation strategy was integrated randomized cluster
model with Individual home visits, clinic visits and community based group sessions. This was
guided by a structured curriculum for training parents, Demonstrations with materials, opportunities
to practice new skills with relevant feedback and problem solving discussion with other parents.
The main sampling technique use was simple random sampling. The basic units of the cluster
sampling was the parish (the sub district) in which it 85% of the population is suggested to have
lived. The structure of a parish constitutes two communities which are build up of three to seven
villages bordering each other with one elected leader. Screening of twelve parishes was done and
by use of the 2012 census, two or three communities were identified per parish. Eligibility was
guided by presence of a parish office or primary school where a preschool could be initiated, at least
75 households

Introduction
Parental loss at a young age has been linked to heightened risk of psychological problems in
adulthood, especially depression and lower self confidence (Mack, 2001; Mireault Bond, 1992;
Saler Skolnick, 1992*) It has also been linked to several different health conditions including
chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, and immune disorders (Luekin Lemery, 2004; McEwen
Seeman, 2006). The way a child grieves over a lost parent shapes the way that information is
interpreted and stored in the brain as well (Lupien, Ouellet Morin, Hupbach, Tu, Buss, Walker, et
al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002) and it can influence whether or not life events are defined as stressful
(Lupien et al., 2006). Studies conducted concerning childhood bereavement suggest that early
parental loss can lead to the development of poorly regulated neuro emotional response systems
(Brotman, Gouley, Klein, Castellanos Pine, 2003) and the alteration of brain structures that help
with memory and cognitive functioning (Lupien et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002). Because of the
impact of the loss, often times, children need help to recover from the loss of their parent. There
have been several studies conducted on effective interventions and strategies when it comes to
helping a child grieve and recover from the loss of their loved one.

They will prepare and manage all classroom resources, display and mount all work, help supervise
the children in class and also at playtime on a rota.
