I arrive to the coliseum around 7:05. I truly didn t know what to expect from this event. From the
name of it, I was thinking along of the lines of a religious event. But Fall Convocation was in fact
something different and indeed shocked me greatly.
The first thing that caught my attention was the different flags that represented all of the schools here.
The sheer number of them was overwhelming to say the least. I always know that that the University
of Mississippi was big, but I didn t know it was this huge. It made me feel like an item in a giant
factory. Ole Miss is that factory. To be truthful, with those titles those heads of the schools held, I don
t know if I will pass inspection.

Text C is based on a protagonist named Holden Caulfield, the theme of rejection is included in this
extract as Holden is constantly rejecting and discarding Ackley, a fellow student at Pencey. At times
Holden also rejects himself as well as society because he fails to fit in with everyone around him. Text
H also incorporates rejection into the extract, as Protagonist Huck Finn rejects religion, society and
conformity. Both novels are bildungsroman s, the two protagonists both go on a journey of self
discovery, facing many challenges along the way, helping them to mature and gain an understanding
of the adult world. In text C the audience is given a glimpse of how Holden feels about himself as he
says, I felt so lonesome, all of a sudden. I almost wished I was dead . By Holden saying this, his
loneliness and self doubt is emphasised through the adverb almost as it shows that his morale is
declining. Holden s alienation is quite frantic as he worries and panics over unimportant events such
as Stradlater meeting up with a girl. The author Salinger makes Holden appear to be quite extreme and

The main difference between the two is the level of education that they have, Holden is clearly more
sophisticated, however sometimes he tries to mask this as he rejects adulthood and growing up, he
wants to stay young therefor this is reflected in his grammar and speech. Huck and Holden both
wished they were dead, this verb shows how serious they both were about the topic of dying as they
both. Death is an extremely serious thing to wish for, therefor we are given an indicated to how
alienated and rejected they both felt at that particular time, they are both also rejecting life

It is a primary sources consisting of two letters written to the President of the United States at different
moments in time. The first one dated from November 17th 1908 is by L.R Farmer from Morganton in
North Carolina and the gender of the writer is not clearly specified. The second letter dated from
October 20th 1942 is by Viola Cosley from Birmingham in Alabama. It must be stated that the level of
language contained in the first letter presuppose a person of lesser education, the use of a lot of slang
and numerous mistake are present.
2. Content. What is the main idea of the source?
The letters are focusing on the fear of two parents regarding their children, which have been kept from
returning home against their will by the authority in Florida and Georgia. They ought to denounce this
intolerable situation to the President, in order for him to assist the safe return of the loved one. In both
cases, the parents are worried that if the letter is sent back to them it will endanger the life of their
