RESEARCH PROJECT PROPOSAL TITLE OF THE PROJECT: DEVELOPMENT OF A MATH
LABORATORY AT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL {PDS} PROJECT
SUMMARY This project is being developed for the purpose of funding a math laboratory to be set up
during the 2002 2003 school year where preservice (college students) will work with at risk K 5
students at the Professional Development School (PDS) at Jackson Elementary School. Professional

The simultaneous co product of this investigation is the potential to help at risk K 5 students develop
their mathematical communication skills and math efficacy (Nicholls, Cobb, Wood, amp; Yackel,
1990) through activity based experiences. Project Plan This research study will be completed with two
parallel studies. The first study will focus on the preservice teachers enrolled in a K 8 math methods
course at Elmhurst College, EDU330 Math for Elementary and Middle School Students. The second
study will focus on the K 5 elementary students at Jackson Elementary School participating in the
math lab sessions. Jackson Elementary School is partnering with the Education Department at
Elmhurst College to form a Professional Development School (PDS) and thus a collaborative
relationship as well as vacant instructional space that provides a unique opportunity for this project. In
sum, the research project has two guiding goals mathematical efficacy and communication. The first
goal is to discern the changes in math self efficacy in both the K 5 students and preservice teachers.
The second goal is to examine if the K 5 students and preservice teachers participating in a math lab,
which is centered on reflective activities and mathematics communication skills, improve as math
communicators. Preservice teacher growth and development in mathematical teaching efficacy

Summary Of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is a profound disease that involves an overproduction of
immature myeloid and lymphoid cells. Hematopoiesis is a process where Hemocytoblast stem cells
differentiate into a range of progenitor cells. Part of the developmental process for these progenitor
cells occurs in the spleen, liver and lymph nodes. In ALL, clonal cells then take up space within the
blood stream, causing the percentage of normal blood constituents to be out of balance. For example,
less erythrocytes are made, putting the suffer at risk of being anemic which has further risks associated
with it. It can be determined that you have ALL from a blood test, chromosome analysis or a bone
marrow sample. For a blood test, then a complete blood

The Atomic Bomb Essay
In this paper, it will be discussed why the Atomic Bomb is the biggest method of destruction known to
man. The paper will be discussing the results of the Atomic Bombs, along with the effects years after
the initial explosion. People always wonder how many people actually died in the two
Atomic Bombs which were dropped in Japan. This question will be answered, along with the method
that citizens were actually killed by the bomb. Besides the initial blast winds that an Atomic Bomb
gives off, people may be killed by several other things including heat rays, radiation and the implosion
of their home.
Robert S. Oppenheimer, was the father of the Atomic
Bomb. After Albert Einstein stated that if the Nazi s made a nuclear weapon first, the ... Show more

In the two bombings there was a large gap in the number of people that died. In Hiroshima the city
population at the time of the bombing was 310,000, The estimated deaths was
90,000 140,000 people. As for the Nagasaki bombing, the city population before the bombing was
250,000. The estimated number of deaths was 60,000 80,000 people.
Notice that the word, quot;estimated quot;, was used for both amounts of deaths. The reason for this is
because, the number of deaths cannot be precisely known because records of military personnel in
each city were destroyed.
There have been several comparisons between the damage capabilities of the two bombs. First of all,
it was said that to achieve maximum blast effect, the bomb had been set to detonate 1800 feet over
Hiroshima. This is approximately
548 meters. The bomb in Hiroshima reached a height of
580+/ 15 meters. As for the bomb in Nagasaki, it reached a height of 500+/ 10 meters. The radius in
which ceramic roof tiles melted was 600m in the Hiroshima bombing and 1000m in the Nagasaki
bombing. The radius in which granite stone melted was 1,000m for the Hiroshima bomb and 1,600m
for the Nagasaki bomb. What can be determined from these statistics is that the Nagasaki bomb has
much stronger heat rays in it, and in turn would destroy more territory and kill more people. As said
earlier in this essay, the location of
Nagasaki prevented that. It was said that when

What Is The Fate Of Oedipus The King
The stories of ancient Greek mythology are famous up until our time. There is something about them,
which will draw the reader into the story. Oedipus the king , written by Sophocles is one of those epic
poems, in ancient Greek. Even though the story is thousands of years old, people enjoy reading them
today. The involvement of Gods and godlike heroes, the prophecies, humans and their flaws, and
scandalous behaviors create so much entertainment for the reader. They are so spectacularly
dramatized, that several movie makers even made movies about them. The captivating, and at the
same time very disturbing aspect, that Oedipus kills his father and marries his mother is an act in
itself. The beginning of Oedipus fate, Jocasta s loyalty to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

World Trade Center Explosion Essay
Lessons from the 1993 WTC Explosion for Business Continuity Plan Development Introduction
Every incidence, of whatever kind, that occurs to a person, a corporation or a country leaves an impact
of its kind. The most important thing is the lessons, which the stakeholders concerned learn from that
incidence. Bombing incidences are often a result of terror attacks and the lessons or the action plans
that ensue from any successful terror attack are not something intelligent minds can underscore
(Knowles, 2003). One of the major targets in these bombings and occurrences of a similar kind is the
business community. Critical analysis of explosions and bombings is very important to both the
security agencies and the businesses. This is primarily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power blackout resulted, 250 elevators became inoperative, five people died and over 1000 got
injured. The Outcome of the Attack The attack had devastating outcome that traversed across many
sectors of the economy. In fact it took a nearly a month to figure out the next course of action (Hiles,
2007). Meanwhile, rescue mission intensified as a result of disaster declarations, businesses were
closed down, the building was considerably destroyed and many companies rerouted their
telecommunication and information channels and systems to alternative sites (Hiles, 2007). Smoke
was everywhere and this caused health complications to people trapped inside the tower for a longer
time. Security alert intensified throughout the US as people worried which was the next place to be
attacked. The Impact of this Incident on Businesses Though there were deaths and injuries that
resulted from this explosion, the major impact was in the business community. This is because this
twin tower hosted nearly 350 businesses and handled over 80,000 on a daily basis who came to do
business with them. The basement of the building had a car parking capacity of 2,000 spaces and this
gives tip of how busy this complex was at the time of the explosion (Hiles, 2007). The work force that
reported for duty daily in this complex was nearly 50,000 employees (Hiles, 2007). In addition to
these business operations, WTC was

The Masters Behind Teatro Olimpico Two men are responsible for the beautiful architecture that is the
Teatro Olimpico but neither of them worked on it at the same time. Both Andrea Palladio and his
successor Vincenzo Scamozzi contributed their own ideas to the theatre. It is fact that Palladio had his
hand in most of the design but it can be argued that the Teatro Olimpico would not be as it is today
without Scamozzi. Looking at the history before the Teatro Olimpico was built, it starts with a group
that was founded by Palladio himself, the Accademia Olimpica. The group was founded in 1555 and
focused on bringing classical theatre into the Renaissance. Palladio s contribution ... Show more

He was a lover of the Roman architecture and classical theatre. Palladio had illustrated Daniele
Barbaro s Italian translation of Vitruvius De architectura, which was a detailed work that explained
what theatre was like in the Roman Empire. It includes floorplans for Roman theatres and an elevation
for the scaenae frons of Vicenza s ruined Roman theatre, the Teatro Berga. The scaenae frons is the
elaborately decorated permanent architectural background of a Roman theatre stage. Normally there
are three entrances to the stage (Palmyra has five) including a grand central entrance, known as the
porta regia or royal door . The form may have been intended to resemble the facades of imperial
palaces.[1] The scaenae frons is often two and sometimes three stories in height and was central to the
theatre s visual impact for this was what was seen by a Roman audience at all times. Tiers or balconies
were supported by an exuberant display of columns, normally in the Corinthian order, often originally
including many statues in niches.[2] In smaller theatres it could support a permanent roof, enclosing
the whole theatre, and in larger ones awnings over the whole or parts of the theatre, perhaps secured to
masts rising above it, for which there is some evidence.[3]As well, Palladio s papers include plans for
the imagined reconstruction of the

Speech On Spider Phobias
One day, I watched the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with two friends. When the
snakes appeared, a friend immediately covered her eyes with her hand. Then there were many
butterflies in the movie. Another friend said, Oh, my God, butterfly! Feifei, tell me after they fly

surprised that some people are afraid for the butterflies or rainbow.

Feminism in The Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz Film and Book Background
The Wizard of Oz is a book by L. Frank Baum written in 1900 and adapted into a musical fantasy in
1939. It starred a young Judy Garland, and was notable because of its use of special effects, color,
unusual characters, and a fantasy storyline made into a major motion picture. It has become almost
iconoclastic in film history, shown regularly on network television and becoming a part of American
cultural history. The song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, won an Oscar for best song, and has been
recorded by hundreds of artists. In fact, for numerous critics, the movie is ranked among the top 10
movies of all times, and the Library of Congress names it the most watched film in history (The
Wizard of Oz, 2010; Baum, 1956).
Most people are more familiar with the movie rather than the series of Baum s books. As a film, we
must remember that color cinematography was in its infancy in Hollywood. In fact, Hal Rosson won
an award for cinematography. Taken in context, the lushness and color saturated feel he gave to the
film enhances the idea that we re not in Kansas anymore. Some of the props and glitter may look at
tad campy to a modern audience, but looking at the film in historical context allows one to be
transported into Oz, a magical place of new colors, shapes, and textures done in such a realistic
manner that it cannot help but improve the imaginative experience for the audience.
In a similar manner, the mise en scene, or the

Spinal Cord Injury In The Body
A spinal cord injury does not occur in a single moment. Instead damage will continue to ensue for
days to weeks after the initial injury. The initial impact and injury causes the immediate damage and
death of oligodendrocytes and motor neurons. However, another wave of damage is caused by the
secondary processes that occur after the injury. The spinal cord is a bundle of nervous tissue and
neurons protected by the vertebral column that transmits electrical synapses, or messages, from the
brain to the rest of the body. It is composed of three layers of membranes and is protected by the bony
vertebrae that make up our vertebral column. The spinal cord upon impact will swell and secrete
chemicals which will cause an inflammatory response and will kill neighboring cells increasing the
amount of functioning lost throughout the body. The swelling can also cut off the blood flow to the ...

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the potential to differentiate and specialize themselves
into specific cell types in the body. Different cell types perform different functions in the body and
because of this differentiation is important. Cells need to specialize in order to perform distinct
functions in the body. There are different types of stem cells that can be obtained from various
sources. The stem cells can be allogenic or autogenous. Allogenic stem cells are obtained from sources
within the same species, but from a different individual. Autogenic means that the cells are obtained
from the own individual (Gabel et al., 2017). There are benefits and risks associated with each type of
stem cell. Autogenous stem cells, since they are from the own individuals body, are not put at risk to
be rejected or attacked by the body by presenting itself as a foreign body. Allogenic stem cells, since

The Organizational Cost Of Employees
The organizational cost of employees longer work life is placing an economic strain on the
organization s bottom line and by applying some microeconomic theories and applications; an
organization will be able to identify some possible programs that will help in the easing of this
economic strain. This economic strain on the organization s bottom line could be eased with more
focus being placed on maintaining employee s fitness and knowledge. This fitness and knowledge
program is the key because by applying pricing theory, equilibrium analysis, and economic efficiency
theory, a fitness and knowledge program for employees will lower the economic strain on the
organization s bottom line that is felt through new hires and time off due to sickness.
First, the economic strain on the organization s bottom line could ease with the use of supply and
demand theory. The supply and demand theory is synonymous with economics and not necessarily
thought of being used in the selection process of a program but they truly are one in the same. The
supply and demand theory will help in identifying and the development of programs that will benefit
both the employee and the employer, as there is a demand by both employees to be more fit and by
their employer for their employees to be fit.
The employee and the employer s desire for fitness is based on two different reasons, as a employees
desire is to be more fit and healthier with less use of sick time as well as for their appearance. On the

Frida Kahlo Vs Jacques Derrida
It can be argued that Frida Kahlo is a painter that challenged the ideas pertaining to gender, race, and
sexuality. She is known for questioning the essence of these identities. Kahlo famously painted
depictions which show her questioning and exploring her own identity. When looking at her whole
body of work, it is apparent that Kahlo was interested in gender and racial constructs. Frida Kahlo s
painting, Diego and Frida, 1929 1944 is one visual example of how Frida Kahlo was an artist that
challenged ideas surrounding gender, race, and sexuality. This painting can be seen through the lens of
deconstruction to offer a deeper insight into its meaning. Vernon Minor and Jacques Derrida are art
theorists that have also speculated about deconstruction. These two both made an argument that
deconstruction is made stronger when direct opposites are used. ... Show more content on

Deconstruction at its core is an act that ask questions for the sake of asking questions. This is so
because deconstruction is not about reaching a conclusion. Rather, deconstruction seeks to expand
questioning in order to expand perception. Jacques Derrida points out, that there is no such thing as
true deconstruction. Derrida states that every decoding is another encoding It is important to note that
in so saying this, Derrida has fundamentally defining a key characteristic of decoding. There is no way
to truly decode as there is always a naturally occurring need to seek to define what has been decoded.
This, however, is not the goal of decoding. The true aim of decoding is to continually ask questions in
order to raise new questions thus, new understanding. Diego and Frida 1929 1944 contains specific
points of reference within the painting that allude to decoding. In particular, Frida Kahlo uses binary
opposites as imagery in this

The second year student I observed was very organized and passionate while helping her patient.
Since this was the last of four visits she had with her patient, she was sweet enough to purchase baby

fifteen years was to set a good example for his soon to be son. From what I could tell, the student was

when I observed another student during my first observation.
I. Preparation: I did not come in early to watch the set up of the unit for this appointment because I
arrived an hour early in my last observation, and I feel pretty comfortable setting up and wiping down

In the perspective of a citizen of the United States in 1922, it seems almost impossible that a woman,
let alone an African American woman, would be responsible for changing the history of Texas and
greatly impacting the world of aviation. However, Bessie Coleman broke the mold when she became
the first African American to hold a pilot license. Among her qualities of isolation, insubordination,
and imprecision, which would typically viewed by society with a negative connotation, came her title
as one of the strongest women of her time. Throughout a span of 32 years, Coleman, who was born on
January 26, 1892, Coleman began to isolate herself at a young age. Even at a much older age,
Coleman attempted turning her inspirations into reality.

Society s View On The Profession Of Journalism Essay
In many ways, it can be argued that through the use of film, society s view on the profession of
journalism can be reflected to be uncover and investigate stories that we ourselves dare not. (McNair,
B. 2010. Pg.12) By acting as our collective conscience, journalists can be portrayed through film and
television shows to act as a unifying source within our society; exposing our shared beliefs, morals
and ideas into the public eye. This can be seen through the All The President s Men (1976), where the
journalists are portrayed as investigative, daring, and strive to reveal the truth through their courage
and perseverance. However, journalists in film can also be represented in a paradoxical way. In the
film Nightcrawler (2014), the journalist in the film, Lou Bloom, is portrayed to have little or no
morals when it comes to the profession of journalism. He can be seen to fabricate the truth or
manipulate others in order to acquire a story that would have maximum impact when shown on the
television. The following essay will explore whether journalists in films act as our collective
conscience, going to places and doing things that we ourselves dare not, and without courage we
would, as societies, be very much worse off as the critic, McNair believes.
In the first instance, All The President s Men (1976) centres on a storyline of two reporters, Woodward
and Bernstein who work together to uncover and expose the American government better known as
the Watergate scandal.

The Expectations With The Forecast Budget For Year 9
A1. Concerns There are several concerns with the forecast budget for year 9. This first concern is in
Advertising. Competition Bikes has annually budgeted 2% of gross profit. Due to the weakening
economy and 15% reductions in year 8, the concern is not making the forecasted amount of units
without increased advertising. Competition Bikes should consider increasing its cost of advertising to
help with communication about the company and its product lines to drive higher sales to meet the

gross profit. During year 7, Competition Bikes sold 4000 units. The concern with Utilities is that it isn
t decreasing to a level comparable to when Competition Bikes had its highest year of production. The
third concern is with Research and Development (R D. Research and Development is designed to

Developing A Health Care System
Despite the nation s significant investment in health care, the US ranks last overall in health care to
other industrialized nations. To help better health in the US, the Triple Aim was launched in October
2007 and was designed to help health care organizations improve the health of populations and the
care they receive by focusing attention on three different aims that were developed to improve the
experience of care, health of populations, and to reduce per capita costs of healthcare (Berwick,
Nolan, Whittington, 2008). In order to have better health in the US, all three of these components must
be addressed and balanced in order to reach the goal of Triple Aim in optimizing our health care
system. The US has developed a health care system that is built around the concept of better care
focusing on events and illness that are already present or have happened, such as heart attacks or
diabetes. What the Triple Aim has brought to health care is the vision of better health that tries to
capture the social need of health care by focusing primarily on not only the idea of better care, but also
on better health, and lower costs (Oregon Primary Care Assc., 2012). Triple Aim has brought the
realization that better care is needed. If you get sick, it is important that all the dimensions to improve
care are brought as close to perfection as possible; therefore, addressing safety needs, effectiveness,

Primate Visual System Essay
The primate visual system is usually separated in two partially independent pathways; the dorsal
pathway subserves mostly motion perception, while the ventral one subserves object feature
recognition. The primary visual cortex (V1) receives most of its retinal input through the lateral
geniculate nucleus (LGN). Anatomical and functional segregation of visual perception starts at the
level of the retina, where parvocellular (P) ganglion cells have small receptive fields and have
sustained colour sensitive synaptic response to light, whereas magnocellular (M) ganglion cells have
larger receptive fields and a faster adapting achromatic response to light [Livingston et al., 1992].
Both types of cells project to the layers 3 6 and 1 2 of the LGN, respectively, which in turn send most
of their outputs to layers 4Cβ and 4Cα of V1, forming what is known as the P and M pathways [Refs].
It was previously thought that strict pathway segregation further continued ... Show more content on

mapped out the corresponding visual field area that suffered the lesions. They found that lesions of the
P geniculate layers generated severe impairments in contrast sensitivity and stereoscopic vision at high
spatial frequencies, as well as color, texture, pattern, and one of the shape discrimination tasks (Fig x).
Lesion to M layers, on the other hand, produced impairment in flicker detection and the two motion
detection tasks they studied. Interestingly, they noticed that neither M or P lesions alone led to
significant impairment in brightness discrimination, or in coarse shape discrimination. These findings
imply that M pathway seems sufficient to preserve some shape discrimination, and challenges the
view that P pathway is the sole input for extrastriatal form

Systems Administration and Network Administration
Systems Administration and Network Administration Systems administration and network
administration are, in many respects, very similar jobs. Both positions are highly involved in
maintaining the computer systems in an organization, and, in some smaller firms, the position may be
handled by the same individual. However, while there are significant similarities between systems
administration and network administration, there are differences in the roles as well. Basically
speaking, system administration focuses on computer systems and networks, while network
administration looks at maintenance and upkeep of the hardware and software that composes the
network (Entrance Exams 2012, 2012). Because there is obviously an overlap between the two
different job descriptions, it can be difficult to understand why it is so important for information
technology professionals to differentiate between network and systems administration. However,
when one understands the different roles of the two different positions, it becomes clear that, why they
might overlap, and why a single individual might be able to handle the position in a small
organization, there are actually substantial differences between the two positions. Particularly in a
large organization, the two jobs may need to be handled by different professionals with different skill
sets. It is because of these different skill sets that the industry has been so adamant about
differentiating between systems and network

Prejudice And Stereotypes
Prejudice is a hostile or negative attitude toward people in a distinguishable group. We can all be
affected by prejudice for the things that make us different from one another. Our brain naturally puts
people into different categories, and the differences can influence our preference of them. When we
put people in different categories, we often make assumptions about these categories based off of their
differences. Schemas are a mental shortcut that allows us to think about something faster. As we are
growing up, we are making a ton of schemas for everything, including groups of people. A stereotype
can be a schema because they think of a group of people as something and easily associate the
characteristics and the group of people. These assumptions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Soon, everytime Rosa speaks to you, she speaks loudly because she assumes you cannot hear her from
past experience. This confirms your belief that Rosa, and other people of that group, are loud. There is
also the issue of stereotype, this is in which victims are concerned that if they follow a common
stereotype about them, they are confirming it and not helping the situation, making it worse. For
example, in my experience, because I am Hispanic, people assume that I really like spicy food.
Sometimes, I feel that I should express how much I like spicy food because I worry that it just
confirms people s stereotypes about Hispanic people so I am tempted to act unlike myself and lie in
order for them to believe differently. Stereotype threat can also affect victims because they are
reminded of their stereotype and subconsciously act towards that stereotype. For example, the
stereotype that women are not as smart as men in math and science are likely to do poorly on tests that
remind them of that stereotype ( Indicating you are a woman on the test before you

Violent Crime Research Paper
Violent Crime Research Paper
Nothing does more to tear our families apart than violent crime, guns, gangs, drugs, and the fear that
walks alongside those terrors. Violent crime and victim rights have become a major concern for most
citizens in the United States of America. Statistics indicate a decline in violent crimes in our country
and an increase in our national prison population. Released prisoners commit most violent crimes.
Gun control legislation, reform programs, victim rights awareness, and other programs are abundant in
our country, but do little to alleviate violent crime. In this paper I will try to present the liberal and
conservative views on this issue as well as my own views.
Violent crime is a complex problem and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This differential is in part due to a higher rate of violent crime in the U.S. and in part to more severe
criminal justice policies. The reasons why other industrialized nations have less violent crime than in
the U.S. is clearly not because they lock up more offenders and thereby reduce crime. We could debate
the various factors that contribute to our high level of violence but a failure to incarcerate is clearly
not one of them (Mauer 21 24).
In order to analyze the decline in crime in the 1990s in greater detail the project team examined the
relationship between imprisonment and crime at the state level from 1991 to 1998. The reason for
doing so is that national trends often obscure substantial variations among the states in the degree to
which imprisonment is utilized as a response to crime. During the seven year period, for example,
Texas led the nation with a 144% rise in its rate of incarceration. Maine increased its prison population
by just 2%. The national average increase in the rate of incarceration was 47% (Mauer 21 24). The
statistics are significant and they are gratifying. We must be honest, too many families, and too many
communities, still live in fear. Violent crimes may be at their lowest levels in a generation, but even a
single crime is one too many.
Even if statistics indicate a decline in violent crime, citizens are still concerned about becoming a
victim of a crime. Our children cannot

Resident Evil Vs Biohazard
Players who follow Resident Evil closely know that the game made its mark with heavyweight horror
turns and battles. Which is why Resident Evil 7 is said to be more than that. Resident Evil 7:
Biohazard is going to be different. It is described to be a major course correction from Resident Evil 4.
It opens up in a scary house in the teaser demo released. The demo, titled Beginning Hour, looks
nothing like its predecessors. The series seems to be distant in feature, for RE 7. Comparing RE 4 and
Biohazard, The Verge has it that the only thing these games have in common are both games can t be
played today. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard brings back the horror. The demo features the Kitchen. In the
Virtual Reality demo, the vibe is similar to the Saw. You start with a chair, and your hands are tied.
But that VR demo makes it quite immersive for players. If the character gets stabbed in the leg, it s as
almost if the leg physically twitches in nervous response. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

won t be a Virtual Reality experience for these platforms. Mike McWhertor explains that controlling
the camera through head tracking and the right analog stick wound up being disorienting. Would

The Apostle Paul s Influence On Christianity
Chase Bryer
As Christianity developed in the Roman Empire in first centuries A.D., its adherents were persecuted
as a minority religion known for its distinct sexual ethic. The emergence of Christianity initiated an
entirely new phase in the history of sexuality and challenged the societal customs of the ancient
Roman world. Through the primary influences of the Christian practice of self control and the Apostle
Paul s distinct radical sexual ideology in a time of rampant sexual exploitation, early Christian
attitudes toward sexual morality were formed and continue to withstand society s most basic shared
ideas.
During the transformation in Rome from a predominately polytheistic culture to one of Christianity in

For Christians, the physical body lay at the heart of what it meant to be a free person destined for
communion with God. In contrast to Gnosticism, The Apostle Paul exclaims, I discipline my body and
bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified (1 Cor.
9:27). The Apostle Paul also stated that it is better to marry than to burn with desire, conceding that
others may feel the need for sexual release. However, there is some discussion about the word burn,
and whether it relates to sexual desire or to eternal damnation for those who practice sex outside the
bonds of matrimony. For followers of Christ, the physical body was regarded as a sanctuary of the
Holy Spirit, and adherents were tasked with glorifying God [with their] body (1 Cor. 6:19). Christians
were commanded not to escape their earthly bodies and be merely passers by, as Gnostics suggested,
but instead, to present [their] bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this [was their]
spiritual worship (Romans 12:1 2). Thus, the body is an essential symbol of Christianity. There are
various other disputes among the Gnostics and the Christians regarding the nature of humans and

Comparison Of Halo And Call Of War
Let s analyze this. Halo and its single player campaign held a vast universe and followed the Spartan
warriors into battle to save the Earth from the alien invasion of 2 different races while Call of Duty
has switched from World War 2 and the Modern era. I must say, the World War 2 story lines were
quite boring, being the same in almost every way, but the Modern Warfare story line caught my
attention. With the evil villain Makarov and the twists and turns the story made in Modern Warfare 2, I
was on the edge of my seat. But, Halo was in every way better in the single player front. Following
genetically enhanced Spartan warriors into battle fighting off hordes of aliens I was amazed with how
deep the story got and how Bungie used every asset they could to enhance the story further in a not so
crazy way.

Using Porous Organometallic Compounds For Various Material...
Introduction
In the past century extensive research has been conducted on porous organometallic compounds for
use in various material applications. Although numerous compounds containing Lewis bases, such as
nitriles and bipyridines and have been reported to be successful at the sorption of small molecules, the
desorption of the guest often leads to structural collapse of the host. 1,2 Metal organic frameworks
(MOFs) have shown to be a valuable class of newer materials that can support permanent porosity
upon the evacuation of the framework. Unlike zeolites, which are fully inorganic, the flexibility in the
choice of the organic linker comprising the backbone of the MOF structure makes the size of the
poragen formed tunable for a wider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the original and still most active fields of research in metal organic frameworks is in gas
separation. While the ability of both rigid and flexible MOFs to adsorb is based on such factors as
geometry of the gas as well as sorbate sorbent interactions, flexible MOFs are also dependent on
structural rearrangements and the ability of the pore to change with thermodynamic conditions.
Currently, most MOF investigations into gas separation are conducted by measuring the sorption and
desorption of specific gases and relating isothermic data. MOFs are being looked to as next generation
gaseous adsorbent materials in both industrial and environmental applications.9 One particular gas
that is of growing environmental concern is CO2. As a byproduct of human created combustion
activities, particularly in developed nations, the need to capture and sequester CO2 is becoming ever
more apparent. In order to adsorb CO2, a metal organic framework must be functionalized for high
selectivity towards the gas as well as possess the necessary enthalpy of adsorption. MOFs with open
cation sites such as MOF 74 derivatives, as well as those containing amine functional groups are
especially useful.10 The

Diffusion And Osmosis Of Potato Cores
Diffusion and Osmosis in Potato Cores By Brittany Pangilinan Abstract Van t Hoff s Law suggests
that the osmotic potential of a cell is proportional to the concentration of solute particles in a solution.
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if there are any differences between the osmolalities,
the no weight changes of osmolalities, and the water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of
different solutes. The percent weight change of the potato cores was calculated through a change in
weight method. The potato core s weight was measured before and after they were put into different
concentrations of a solute for 1.5 hours. In our experiment, there were no significant differences from
the osmotic potentials of our results and the osmotic potentials of other scientists work. Ending with
chi square values of 2.17 and 2.71, and p values of 0.256 and 0.337, concluding that there is no
difference in water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of different solutes at varying
concentrations. Introduction Water potential is the measure of potential energy in water, or the
difference in potential energy between a water sample and pure water. According to Kosinski (2015),
white potatoes are an experimentally favorite subject for the determination of water potential in plant
tissue. In our lab we use a procedure called change in weight method, which was published by Meyer

The Importance Of The Usa Patriot Act
The Patriot Act of 2001 was originally intended to protect citizens against further terrorism after the
September 11 attacks. It was passed due to the overwhelming amount of support for the federal
government from the public. This act made it easier for the government to attack the funding networks
upon which terrorist organizations depended upon. The Patriot Act also encouraged various
intelligence gathering agencies, such as the CIA, and law enforcement groups, like the FBI, to share
information about suspected terrorists. Although some may argue that the Usa Patriot Act was
beneficial in protecting the United States against further terrorism, the Usa Patriot Act was and still is,
a restraint on constitutional rights. This act violates the Fourth Amendment, infringes on the First
Amendment, and has been used by the federal government to abuse their power.
The Fourth Amendment of the Constitution asserts that all citizens will be protected from unlawful
searches and seizures. The United and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools
Required to Intercept Terrorism Act of 2001 (USA PATRIOT ACT), infringes on this amendment of
the Constitution. On April 5, 2004, Bob Barr, a former Republican member of Congress, spoke out
against the PATRIOT ACT in his speech. In the Washington Post, Barr stated that, The Fourth
Amendment is a nuisance to the administration, but the amendment protects citizens and legal
immigrants from the government s monitoring them whenever it

Analyzing Database Management Systems ( Dbms ) Come Into Play
Analyzing Database Management Systems Data. It is all around every person on this earth whether
they realize it or not. Throughout each and everyone s life they collect data and have their data
collected by others. Height, weight, shopping habits, health history are all examples of data that is
tracked. The question is what is done with this data? People, companies, even the government analyze
the data they collect and analyze it with hope of discovering new information. How they do this is
particularly interesting and opens the door for a larger discussion. In the world of computer science
large groups of data that are collected are referred to as databases. When there is a multitude of these
databases, a way to manage all of this information is needed. That is where database management
systems (DBMS) come into play. A database management system is a collection of programs that
enables users to create and maintain a database. The DBMS is a general purpose software system that
facilitates the processes of defining, constructing, manipulating, and sharing databases among various
users and applications [1]. Analyzing these database managements systems could potentially have
huge benefits since companies could determine when and where to sell products, track certain trends,
and possibly predict future outcomes. Two popular ways to analyze these large amounts of data are
OLAP, online analytical processing tools and/or data mining. According to Oracle, one of the

Liberty And Social Order
Essay The human mind is capable of painting freedom as limitless. Liberty to it perhaps means,
complete freedom to do as one desires or the state of being free within society from onerous

The use and consequences of freedom reflect in the social order of our lives. It reflects in the social
structures, relations, customs, values and practices, which actually preserve, maintain certain manner
of socializing and carrying oneself. The balanced or the unbalanced relationship of liberty and social
order decides the progress or the downfall of any particular society. The modern American

the restrictions of arbitrary force. They exercise these rights through the use of their natural free will.

a particular behavior is affected by it consequences. Interested in animal intelligence, the first
experimental studies of operant conditioning were attempted by Edwin L. Thorndike in the 1890s
(Powell, Honey, Symbaluk, 2013). Of the many experiments Thorndike conducted with animals, the
most famous experiment involved cats (Powell, Honey, Symbaluk, 2013). Thorndike placed cats in an

connections with people across vast distances. His room which also served as his workshop, was

Until that point, I had chosen computer science courses as it was the closest I could get to learning
electronics. Over the duration of my undergrad life, as I spent more and more time embroiled in my
major subjects, this chain of reasoning proved to be perfectly true.
The VLSI Design course in my fifth semester drew my attention towards microminiaturization
technology. My reasons for such a focus were manifold; I had a brilliant professor for this course, who
placed great emphasis on the cutting edge research happening at the micro scale. Also, VLSI is the
crucial link between electronic circuits and computers, both of which are subjects close to my heart.
Consequently, I selected the VLSI/ULSI process technologies elective in the subsequent semester.
This course introduced me to the physics behind actual fabrication methodologies employed in the
semiconductor industry. It brought back memories of the awe and wonder I had felt in my childhood.
At this juncture, I resolved to explore the microscale in greater detail. In the seventh semester, I filled

How Will The Nationalist Immigration Policies Of Hungary...
How will the nationalist immigration policies of Hungary impact the rest of Europe?
My thesis for this paper is that Hungary s foreign policy views on the migration crisis that currents
exists throughout Europe is very drastic. These policies can also been seen as a direct reflection of the
extremist nationalist views of Viktor Orbán (the current President of Hungary) and his right wing
party, Fidesz. This concept shows how the personality and psychology of an individual leader can
affect a state s foreign policy. This extremist view, as shown by Hungary, is spreading across Europe.
This then brings into question a lot of European Union standards, and may even cause the downfall
and collapse of the Schengen Agreement. The international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition to this, there has been large prejudices against the migrants due to crime accusations. The
result of such events is the rise of nationalist extremist parties in Central and Eastern Europe. A prime
example of this is within Hungary. Hungary has been quite vocal about its opposition to accepting
refugees and other migrants. These statements were made by Hungary s leader Viktor Orbán who has
been known to have very extreme views on other social issues. The result of Hungary s statements
concerning immigration is an epidemic of other countries having similar views which will contradict
the Schengen Agreement. The Schengen Agreement is one of the foundations of the European Union
so removing or adapting said intuition would seriously affect the European Union. In this paper I will
analyse the international system in which these foreign policy directions have been made whilst
examining how Viktor Orbán s personality and psychology has a direct influence on the decisions
made by Hungary and the history of the migration laws of the European Union.

Latino Gangs in Movies Essay
Latino Gangs in Movies
American filmmakers of the late twentieth century portrayed Latinos as merciless pursuers of the
American Dream . The Latino immigrants were characterized as Urban Bandidos , seeking the path to
ultimate wealth and power in a society dominated by Anglo authority. West Side Story, Fort Apache,
and Scarface each portrayed the Latino character differently, but commonly depicted the Urban
Bandido as a man in search of money and power in America. Not only do these immigrants fight for
the warped American dream, but they often fight without fear, willing to risk almost anything to reach

Newman s partner in the film who is engaged to a young Latina woman, pressures his future wife to
sleep with him and she eventually gives in to her strong Anglo man against her original beliefs

in a hierarchical society, while Latinos were left weak and without control over their actions and
values.
Scarface portrays the Latino immigrant from a different perspective, as we can see in the character of
Tony Montana, played by Al Pacino. He is a Cuban refugee willing to hurt anyone and do anything to
gain power and wealth in the United States. He and his friends use guns, drugs, and sex to push to the
top of the power chain, while of course pursuing the innocent Anglo woman. Once again we see the
portrayal of Latinas as subordinate, weak and submissive to the domineering, overprotective male. We
also see the same conflict over loyalty that we viewed earlier in West Side Story, but here the Latino
puts family before all and kills his best friend in a rage of jealousy over the friend s relationship with
his sister. In WSS, the loyalty lies with the lover instead of the family, as we observed when Maria
continued to love Tony after he killed her brother in cold blood.

diabetes prevention, but I also have previous experience with fitness and working with youth. So, I
applied to this organization because I felt as though Waite House would be the perfect placement for

I worked with many underprivileged youth back home in Chicago and it took a dedication to continue
with the work. Now, one of my top five strengths from the StrengthsQuest assessment is adaptability.
If working with underestimated communities was not something I continued with I do not think I
would currently be volunteering at Waite House. Not only am I enthusiastic about the work, but I have
the patience to carry out the charitable tasks with the knowledge of how to work with others to get the

1. Between 1900 and 1925, traditional norms were violated or abandoned in art, music, and literature.
What factors might have brought about this situation? Offer specific examples to illustrate your
general statements (think of Picasso, Matisse, Brancusi, and Mondrian).
Pablo Picasso, who was born in Malaga, Spain, changed and created new style of painting while
moving from a place to another. He went throng his blue period, in which he used different shades of
blue to paint, during his three trips to Paris. After he settled down in Paris finally in 1904, he met
Fernande Oliver and started changing his style of art from dull blue to light color like red and pink. He

enjoyment and imaginary space to people.
4. Create a stream of consciousness diary entry of your experiences since you awoke this morning.
Does your entry capture these experiences more effectively than a narrative description of them
might? It s a sunny day. Today I have many things to do. First of all I want to take a shower. I feel a lot
of energy is coming and it is good. Better prepare breakfast and start doing my housework. Since they
are still sleeping, I have to cook for them. I try to make some omelet but there is not enough eggs but
still pretty good. I spent too much time for housework and I am late for school. We have PE class
today. The class is awesome and I learn a lot. I m happy to be a student. Such a great day, perhaps
taking a walk with my dog is a great idea. Gosh, my dog gets off of the leash but there is no car and I
can run after it to get her back. It is so lucky.

No Exit Character Analysis
In Existential novels, another way characters are able to reconcile themselves to the absurd world is by
forming connections with others like the characters in the play, No Exit. When Garcin, Inez, and
Estelle are placed in hell, at first, they try to ignore each other. But, soon they realize there is no point
in doing that. The more they ignore each other, the more they look back at the earth and see
themselves being forgotten. This causes them to try to form connections with one another, but the
connection they formed is not friendly. Instead, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle have a negative relationship
where they constantly irk each other. They would not be able to reconcile themselves in their absurd
world without this awful relationship. Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred Prufrock does not form connections with other characters. In the poem, Prufrock continually
says In the room the women come and go/Talking of Michelangelo (1). Then, he asks himself Do I
dare? and, Do I dare? because he questions himself whether or not he should go talk to the women in
the room (1). As the poem goes on, he continues to question himself and he does not go talk to those
women. He wants to form a connection with those women, but he keeps holding back. By holding
himself back, he stops himself from making any human interaction. Instead, he constantly worries
about the world around him and he feels trapped by it. He has also said he has heard the mermaids
singing, each to each./[He does] not think that they will sing to [him] (3). The mermaids have
connections among themselves, but they do not form a connection with him. Prufrock is unable to
form a connection with humans or supernatural creatures. In the last line of the poem, Prufrock says,
Till the human voices wake us, and we drown (3). Unless he is able to talk to other people and form
connections with them, he is unable to exist so he drowns . The act of drowning represents feeling
trapped because a person can t breath which represents freedom. To Prufrock, drowning represents his
inability to reconcile himself to the absurd world he finds himself trapped in. Overall, in The Love
Song of J Alfred Prufrock, Prufrock is unable to form

Economics and Business Communication
Economics and Business Communication 1.Four different levels of Regional Economic Integration
include a free trade area, customs union, common market, and unrestricted movement. Free trade
agreements involve no tariffs issued within a country, with tariffs issued onto a third country. In a
customs union, there are no internal tariffs but instead uniform, predetermined external tariffs. In a
common market, there is free movement of labor and resources, with no tariffs issued. Finally, an
economic union requires uniform currency and policies; this involves transactions between more like
minded countries. 2.There are three different types of foreign exchange risk: transaction exposure,
economic exposure, and translation exposure. Transaction exposure refers to the extent to which
transactions are liable to be affected by the exchange rate at a given moment. Because of the constant
fluctuations of the exchange rate, the profits garnered from a given transaction can be greatly affected.
Economic exposure refers to the tendency that a change in exchange rate can have on a party s cash
supply and earnings. This has similar consequences to those of transaction exposure, except that it is
not directly related to a specific transaction. Translation exposure relates to the impact that changes in
exchange rates can have on the financial statements of a country; they differ from the other types of
foreign exchange risk in that they have less relation to transactions. 3.One common

The Is A Nuclear Waste Site
The ancient Greek culture and the Egyptians only survived for about two thousand years. The United
States has been a country for only about two hundred and thirty nine years. In ten thousand years the
United States may or may not be around. This is significant because a nuclear waste site will be
dangerous for a span of ten thousand years. The WIPP, Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, is a nuclear waste
site that is the result of testing nuclear weapons from the United States government. The United States
citizens must be protected from the radioactive wastes being regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory
Commission. (1)The primary goal of the WIPP is to create a sustainable marker or message to warn
the citizens of America, and to any future generations, about the harmful site. The markers and
messages must be able to last for ten thousand years so future humans will be aware of the dangers the
area contains. Due to the nuclear testing, the WIPP will mark the hazardous nuclear waste that remains
in New Mexico for a period of ten thousand years.
(2)The cultures have greatly changed over the last two thousand years. Languages, food, clothing,
religion, and other aspects of culture have been created, used, and disregarded. It is difficult to know if
the future generations will be able to comprehend our English language, that has been around for
thousands of years. Also a good amount of infrastructure has been damaged or completely renewed
over the years. For example, natural disasters

Hematopoiesis is a process where Hemocytoblast stem cells differentiate into a range of progenitor cells. Part of the developmental process for these progenitor cells occurs in the spleen, liver and lymph nodes. In ALL, clonal cells then take up space within the blood stream, causing the percentage of normal blood constituents to be out of balance. For example, less erythrocytes are made, putting the suffer at risk of being anemic which has further risks associated with it. It can be determined that you have ALL from a blood test, chromosome analysis or a bone marrow sample. For a blood test, then a complete blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Atomic Bomb Essay In this paper, it will be discussed why the Atomic Bomb is the biggest method of destruction known to man. The paper will be discussing the results of the Atomic Bombs, along with the effects years after the initial explosion. People always wonder how many people actually died in the two Atomic Bombs which were dropped in Japan. This question will be answered, along with the method that citizens were actually killed by the bomb. Besides the initial blast winds that an Atomic Bomb gives off, people may be killed by several other things including heat rays, radiation and the implosion of their home. Robert S. Oppenheimer, was the father of the Atomic Bomb. After Albert Einstein stated that if the Nazi s made a nuclear weapon first, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the two bombings there was a large gap in the number of people that died. In Hiroshima the city population at the time of the bombing was 310,000, The estimated deaths was 90,000 140,000 people. As for the Nagasaki bombing, the city population before the bombing was 250,000. The estimated number of deaths was 60,000 80,000 people. Notice that the word, quot;estimated quot;, was used for both amounts of deaths. The reason for this is because, the number of deaths cannot be precisely known because records of military personnel in each city were destroyed. There have been several comparisons between the damage capabilities of the two bombs. First of all, it was said that to achieve maximum blast effect, the bomb had been set to detonate 1800 feet over Hiroshima. This is approximately 548 meters. The bomb in Hiroshima reached a height of 580+/ 15 meters. As for the bomb in Nagasaki, it reached a height of 500+/ 10 meters. The radius in which ceramic roof tiles melted was 600m in the Hiroshima bombing and 1000m in the Nagasaki bombing. The radius in which granite stone melted was 1,000m for the Hiroshima bomb and 1,600m for the Nagasaki bomb. What can be determined from these statistics is that the Nagasaki bomb has much stronger heat rays in it, and in turn would destroy more territory and kill more people. As said earlier in this essay, the location of Nagasaki prevented that. It was said that when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Palladio had illustrated Daniele Barbaro s Italian translation of Vitruvius De architectura, which was a detailed work that explained what theatre was like in the Roman Empire. It includes floorplans for Roman theatres and an elevation for the scaenae frons of Vicenza s ruined Roman theatre, the Teatro Berga. The scaenae frons is the elaborately decorated permanent architectural background of a Roman theatre stage. Normally there are three entrances to the stage (Palmyra has five) including a grand central entrance, known as the porta regia or royal door . The form may have been intended to resemble the facades of imperial palaces.[1] The scaenae frons is often two and sometimes three stories in height and was central to the theatre s visual impact for this was what was seen by a Roman audience at all times. Tiers or balconies were supported by an exuberant display of columns, normally in the Corinthian order, often originally including many statues in niches.[2] In smaller theatres it could support a permanent roof, enclosing the whole theatre, and in larger ones awnings over the whole or parts of the theatre, perhaps secured to masts rising above it, for which there is some evidence.[3]As well, Palladio s papers include plans for the imagined reconstruction of the ... It starred a young Judy Garland, and was notable because of its use of special effects, color, unusual characters, and a fantasy storyline made into a major motion picture. It has become almost iconoclastic in film history, shown regularly on network television and becoming a part of American cultural history. The song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, won an Oscar for best song, and has been recorded by hundreds of artists. In fact, for numerous critics, the movie is ranked among the top 10 movies of all times, and the Library of Congress names it the most watched film in history (The Wizard of Oz, 2010; Baum, 1956). Most people are more familiar with the movie rather than the series of Baum s books. As a film, we must remember that color cinematography was in its infancy in Hollywood. The Organizational Cost Of Employees The organizational cost of employees longer work life is placing an economic strain on the organization s bottom line and by applying some microeconomic theories and applications; an organization will be able to identify some possible programs that will help in the easing of this economic strain. This economic strain on the organization s bottom line could be eased with more focus being placed on maintaining employee s fitness and knowledge. This fitness and knowledge program is the key because by applying pricing theory, equilibrium analysis, and economic efficiency theory, a fitness and knowledge program for employees will lower the economic strain on the organization s bottom line that is felt through new hires and time off due to sickness. First, the economic strain on the organization s bottom line could ease with the use of supply and demand theory. The supply and demand theory is synonymous with economics and not necessarily thought of being used in the selection process of a program but they truly are one in the same. The supply and demand theory will help in identifying and the development of programs that will benefit both the employee and the employer, as there is a demand by both employees to be more fit and by their employer for their employees to be fit. She is known for questioning the essence of these identities. Kahlo famously painted depictions which show her questioning and exploring her own identity. When looking at her whole body of work, it is apparent that Kahlo was interested in gender and racial constructs. Frida Kahlo s painting, Diego and Frida, 1929 1944 is one visual example of how Frida Kahlo was an artist that challenged ideas surrounding gender, race, and sexuality. Derrida states that every decoding is another encoding It is important to note that in so saying this, Derrida has fundamentally defining a key characteristic of decoding. There is no way to truly decode as there is always a naturally occurring need to seek to define what has been decoded. This, however, is not the goal of decoding. Society s View On The Profession Of Journalism Essay In many ways, it can be argued that through the use of film, society s view on the profession of journalism can be reflected to be uncover and investigate stories that we ourselves dare not. (McNair, B. 2010. Pg.12) By acting as our collective conscience, journalists can be portrayed through film and television shows to act as a unifying source within our society; exposing our shared beliefs, morals and ideas into the public eye. This can be seen through the All The President s Men (1976), where the journalists are portrayed as investigative, daring, and strive to reveal the truth through their courage and perseverance. However, journalists in film can also be represented in a paradoxical way. In the film Nightcrawler (2014), the journalist in the film, Lou Bloom, is portrayed to have little or no morals when it comes to the profession of journalism. He can be seen to fabricate the truth or manipulate others in order to acquire a story that would have maximum impact when shown on the television. The following essay will explore whether journalists in films act as our collective conscience, going to places and doing things that we ourselves dare not, and without courage we would, as societies, be very much worse off as the critic, McNair believes. To help better health in the US, the Triple Aim was launched in October 2007 and was designed to help health care organizations improve the health of populations and the care they receive by focusing attention on three different aims that were developed to improve the experience of care, health of populations, and to reduce per capita costs of healthcare (Berwick, Nolan, Whittington, 2008). In order to have better health in the US, all three of these components must be addressed and balanced in order to reach the goal of Triple Aim in optimizing our health care system. The US has developed a health care system that is built around the concept of better care focusing on events and illness that are already present or have happened, such as heart attacks or diabetes. What the Triple Aim has brought to health care is the vision of better health that tries to capture the social need of health care by focusing primarily on not only the idea of better care, but also on better health, and lower costs (Oregon Primary Care Assc., 2012). Triple Aim has brought the realization that better care is needed. If you get sick, it is important that all the dimensions to improve care are brought as close to perfection as possible; therefore, addressing safety needs, effectiveness, efficiency, timeliness, patient centeredness, and equity within the ... • 21. Primate Visual System Essay The primate visual system is usually separated in two partially independent pathways; the dorsal pathway subserves mostly motion perception, while the ventral one subserves object feature recognition. The primary visual cortex (V1) receives most of its retinal input through the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN). Anatomical and functional segregation of visual perception starts at the level of the retina, where parvocellular (P) ganglion cells have small receptive fields and have sustained colour sensitive synaptic response to light, whereas magnocellular (M) ganglion cells have larger receptive fields and a faster adapting achromatic response to light [Livingston et al., 1992]. Both types of cells project to the layers 3 6 and 1 2 of the LGN, respectively, which in turn send most of their outputs to layers 4Cβ and 4Cα of V1, forming what is known as the P and M pathways [Refs]. It was previously thought that strict pathway segregation further continued ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this study, experimenters selectively lesioned layers 1 2 (M pathway) and 3 6 (P pathway), then mapped out the corresponding visual field area that suffered the lesions. They found that lesions of the P geniculate layers generated severe impairments in contrast sensitivity and stereoscopic vision at high spatial frequencies, as well as color, texture, pattern, and one of the shape discrimination tasks (Fig x). Lesion to M layers, on the other hand, produced impairment in flicker detection and the two motion detection tasks they studied. Interestingly, they noticed that neither M or P lesions alone led to significant impairment in brightness discrimination, or in coarse shape discrimination. These findings imply that M pathway seems sufficient to preserve some shape discrimination, and challenges the view that P pathway is the sole input for extrastriatal form ... Both positions are highly involved in maintaining the computer systems in an organization, and, in some smaller firms, the position may be handled by the same individual. However, while there are significant similarities between systems administration and network administration, there are differences in the roles as well. Basically speaking, system administration focuses on computer systems and networks, while network administration looks at maintenance and upkeep of the hardware and software that composes the network (Entrance Exams 2012, 2012). Because there is obviously an overlap between the two different job descriptions, it can be difficult to understand why it is so important for information technology professionals to differentiate between network and systems administration. However, when one understands the different roles of the two different positions, it becomes clear that, why they might overlap, and why a single individual might be able to handle the position in a small organization, there are actually substantial differences between the two positions. Particularly in a large organization, the two jobs may need to be handled by different professionals with different skill sets. • 23. Prejudice And Stereotypes Prejudice is a hostile or negative attitude toward people in a distinguishable group. We can all be affected by prejudice for the things that make us different from one another. Our brain naturally puts people into different categories, and the differences can influence our preference of them. When we put people in different categories, we often make assumptions about these categories based off of their differences. Schemas are a mental shortcut that allows us to think about something faster. As we are growing up, we are making a ton of schemas for everything, including groups of people. A stereotype can be a schema because they think of a group of people as something and easily associate the characteristics and the group of people. These assumptions ... For example, in my experience, because I am Hispanic, people assume that I really like spicy food. Sometimes, I feel that I should express how much I like spicy food because I worry that it just confirms people s stereotypes about Hispanic people so I am tempted to act unlike myself and lie in order for them to believe differently. Stereotype threat can also affect victims because they are reminded of their stereotype and subconsciously act towards that stereotype. Violent crime and victim rights have become a major concern for most citizens in the United States of America. Statistics indicate a decline in violent crimes in our country and an increase in our national prison population. Released prisoners commit most violent crimes. This differential is in part due to a higher rate of violent crime in the U.S. and in part to more severe criminal justice policies. The reasons why other industrialized nations have less violent crime than in the U.S. is clearly not because they lock up more offenders and thereby reduce crime. We could debate the various factors that contribute to our high level of violence but a failure to incarcerate is clearly not one of them (Mauer 21 24). In order to analyze the decline in crime in the 1990s in greater detail the project team examined the relationship between imprisonment and crime at the state level from 1991 to 1998. The reason for doing so is that national trends often obscure substantial variations among the states in the degree to which imprisonment is utilized as a response to crime. During the seven year period, for example, Texas led the nation with a 144% rise in its rate of incarceration. Maine increased its prison population by just 2%. The national average increase in the rate of incarceration was 47% (Mauer 21 24). The statistics are significant and they are gratifying. We must be honest, too many families, and too many communities, still live in fear. Violent crimes may be at their lowest levels in a generation, but even a single crime is one too many. Through the primary influences of the Christian practice of self control and the Apostle Paul s distinct radical sexual ideology in a time of rampant sexual exploitation, early Christian attitudes toward sexual morality were formed and continue to withstand society s most basic shared ideas. In contrast to Gnosticism, The Apostle Paul exclaims, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified (1 Cor. 9:27). The Apostle Paul also stated that it is better to marry than to burn with desire, conceding that others may feel the need for sexual release. However, there is some discussion about the word burn, and whether it relates to sexual desire or to eternal damnation for those who practice sex outside the bonds of matrimony. For followers of Christ, the physical body was regarded as a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit, and adherents were tasked with glorifying God [with their] body (1 Cor. 6:19). Christians were commanded not to escape their earthly bodies and be merely passers by, as Gnostics suggested, but instead, to present [their] bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this [was their] spiritual worship (Romans 12:1 2). Introduction In the past century extensive research has been conducted on porous organometallic compounds for use in various material applications. Although numerous compounds containing Lewis bases, such as nitriles and bipyridines and have been reported to be successful at the sorption of small molecules, the desorption of the guest often leads to structural collapse of the host. 1,2 Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown to be a valuable class of newer materials that can support permanent porosity upon the evacuation of the framework. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the original and still most active fields of research in metal organic frameworks is in gas separation. While the ability of both rigid and flexible MOFs to adsorb is based on such factors as geometry of the gas as well as sorbate sorbent interactions, flexible MOFs are also dependent on structural rearrangements and the ability of the pore to change with thermodynamic conditions. Currently, most MOF investigations into gas separation are conducted by measuring the sorption and desorption of specific gases and relating isothermic data. MOFs are being looked to as next generation gaseous adsorbent materials in both industrial and environmental applications.9 One particular gas that is of growing environmental concern is CO2. As a byproduct of human created combustion activities, particularly in developed nations, the need to capture and sequester CO2 is becoming ever more apparent. In order to adsorb CO2, a metal organic framework must be functionalized for high selectivity towards the gas as well as possess the necessary enthalpy of adsorption. The purpose of this experiment was to determine if there are any differences between the osmolalities, the no weight changes of osmolalities, and the water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of different solutes. The percent weight change of the potato cores was calculated through a change in weight method. The potato core s weight was measured before and after they were put into different concentrations of a solute for 1.5 hours. In our experiment, there were no significant differences from the osmotic potentials of our results and the osmotic potentials of other scientists work. It was passed due to the overwhelming amount of support for the federal government from the public. This act made it easier for the government to attack the funding networks upon which terrorist organizations depended upon. The Patriot Act also encouraged various intelligence gathering agencies, such as the CIA, and law enforcement groups, like the FBI, to share information about suspected terrorists. Although some may argue that the Usa Patriot Act was beneficial in protecting the United States against further terrorism, the Usa Patriot Act was and still is, a restraint on constitutional rights. Throughout each and everyone s life they collect data and have their data collected by others. Height, weight, shopping habits, health history are all examples of data that is tracked. The question is what is done with this data? People, companies, even the government analyze the data they collect and analyze it with hope of discovering new information. How they do this is particularly interesting and opens the door for a larger discussion. In the world of computer science large groups of data that are collected are referred to as databases. When there is a multitude of these databases, a way to manage all of this information is needed. That is where database management systems (DBMS) come into play. A database management system is a collection of programs that enables users to create and maintain a database. The DBMS is a general purpose software system that facilitates the processes of defining, constructing, manipulating, and sharing databases among various users and applications [1]. Analyzing these database managements systems could potentially have huge benefits since companies could determine when and where to sell products, track certain trends, and possibly predict future outcomes. For example Mother Teresa once said kind words are short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. what she was saying is that yes words are good but, like the game telephone that most people have played in their youth; they can be repeated twisted or changed for bad and/or evil. They can start out good but then change or become evil. Same way opposite though; they could start out evil and then change good. Another quote from an unknown source is that words are free. • 42. Waite House Reflection When first prompted with the assignment to volunteer 20 hours of my time somewhere off the University of Minnesota s campus, I was quite stressed out because of the time commitment. However, as I was reading through the list of possible locations to volunteer one particular place grabbed my attention and made me feel as though it would not be as terrible of an experience that I assumed it would be for me. The name of this place was Waite House and thankfully it is currently the organization where I am engaging in my service learning. Waite House is located in the Ventura Village neighborhood within the Phillips community in Minneapolis. Waite House caught my attention because not only was it a relatively short commute on the public transit system, but the description mentioned youth fitness and obesity/diabetes prevention. Not only am I educated in diabetes prevention, but I also have previous experience with fitness and working with youth. So, I applied to this organization because I felt as though Waite House would be the perfect placement for me. According to the Waite House website, their purpose/mission states the following: Waite House programs integrate civic engagement with human services to bring about positive change within our core focus areas of Employment and Training, Health and Nutrition, Youth ... Not only am I enthusiastic about the work, but I have the patience to carry out the charitable tasks with the knowledge of how to work with others to get the job done most ... No Exit Character Analysis In Existential novels, another way characters are able to reconcile themselves to the absurd world is by forming connections with others like the characters in the play, No Exit. When Garcin, Inez, and Estelle are placed in hell, at first, they try to ignore each other. But, soon they realize there is no point in doing that. The more they ignore each other, the more they look back at the earth and see themselves being forgotten. This causes them to try to form connections with one another, but the connection they formed is not friendly. Instead, Garcin, Inez, and Estelle have a negative relationship where they constantly irk each other. The United States has been a country for only about two hundred and thirty nine years. In ten thousand years the United States may or may not be around. This is significant because a nuclear waste site will be dangerous for a span of ten thousand years. The WIPP, Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, is a nuclear waste site that is the result of testing nuclear weapons from the United States government. The United States citizens must be protected from the radioactive wastes being regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. (1)The primary goal of the WIPP is to create a sustainable marker or message to warn the citizens of America, and to any future generations, about the harmful site. The markers and messages must be able to last for ten thousand years so future humans will be aware of the dangers the area contains. Due to the nuclear testing, the WIPP will mark the hazardous nuclear waste that remains in New Mexico for a period of ten thousand years. (2)The cultures have greatly changed over the last two thousand years. Languages, food, clothing, religion, and other aspects of culture have been created, used, and disregarded.
