Photosynthesis and Respiration
All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and
other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers
need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar
glucose. Photosynthesis is the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for
virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can
capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can
be described by the following simple equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is
present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants
convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to
water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy
is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and
starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they
may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls,
etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in
intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as
tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities
drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is
minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it
maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be
compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain
shape and ensure

Strengths and Weaknesses Concluding remarks References 2 2 3 4 5 6
Introduction In today s modern society shaped by economic and social challenges, business strategy
has never been more important. A rethink of theoretical management practices is fundamental to
establishing innovative strategic design to cope with these challenges. (Hahn et al, 2010). This is not a
new idea, in fact, in 2009, Guerrera challenged Michael Porter s underlying premise that businesses
are there to make money while Figge and Hahn (2008) go as far as to accuse such strategies of
aggravating the current economic situation. Henry Mintzberg s ... Show more content on

They conclude that meaning, compromising perspective, knowledge, and learning, underlies action.
[p88] It is evident that this debate will continue to grow in interest and relevance in a modern, global
society and it is important to look at the underlying premise behind Mintzberg s conviction.
Underlying premise Mintzberg s underlying assumption is that businesses must learn which
opportunities are available in the current and future environments and to do this, strategy must be
developed by managers at the operational level: built from occasional nuggets they uncover [p111]
and not by senior managers and analysts in an ivory tower looking backwards at past data. Birger
Wernerfelt, (1984) illustrates an organisation driven, resource based view of strategy in which firms
can influence the environment in which they operate. Wernerfelt argues that firms must first
understand their organisation and develop ways to shape their business surroundings accordingly. On
the other side of this learning debate, Porter (1985) presents a positioning approach where the role of
the strategist is to identify the external forces of the environment (Competitive forces Model: Porter,
1979) and find a unique and valuable position in which the firm can flourish. As is typical in
organisational strategy, nothing is clear cut and indeed Mintzberg s article draws parallels with both
Wernerfelt and Porter. In this article, he argues that organisations must learn which opportunities are

The Tyger Religion
The Lamb and The Tyger Religion had a powerful influence on William Blake during the
Romanticism period. As a poet, William used imagination, presented emotions and the concept of
nature. He placed his voice through the words of his poems. In The Lamb he displays the teachings of
Christianity. William Blake strives for the reader to embrace the Creator outlooks of innocence and
wildness. In The Tyger he tries to make the reader understand why such an animal was originated.
However, the author emphasizes to the reader the purpose of God s creations. The lamb is
characterized as the peaceful perspective of God. In The Lamb it states, I a child and thou a lamb, we
are called by his name (Blake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Tyger it states, Did he who made the Lamb make thee? (Blake line 20). William Blake s
curiosity makes the reader feel uncertain. He only highlights the importance of the tyger through
asking questions. Blake s questions were challenging the principles of Christianity. He was underling
why God created the beautiful lamb and the ferocious tyger. He wanted people to know that the world
is filled with tranquility and disturbance. God himself wants people to adhere to the opposites of life.
The way we humans deal with beauty with horror and love with pain. God is the creator of both
creatures, but also the creator of such emotions presented within them. People misconceive the
perception and the purpose of the tyger. God himself is the human soul of honesty and brute force.

act as our saviors; like angels to protect us. Although, nature acts as a warrior. Nature quickly placed
on its armor to attack the dangerous tyger. The waters cried due to the nefarious existence of such a
creature. Not only nature, but man himself on Earth is not aware of what the tyger can do. The purpose
of the tyger is to be our weapon to destroy injustice and cruel activities in the world. The tyger is our
inner strength to ward off evil. God himself is the tyger because he is the one that helps his devotees in
the time of hardships. He does not let his devotees suffer or be faced with degradation. William Blake
depicted the tyger as the malevolent beast, to make the reader apprehend the beauty of God s creation.

Influence Of Sales Process For Real Estate Transaction
Sales Process for Real Estate Transaction The real estate agents have the duty and the responsibility to
represent clients throughout the sales process. Agents plays significant roles such as managing lists of
contacts, advising clients on mortgages, pricing and market conditions, guiding buyers and sellers
through the transaction process, generating lists of appropriate properties for buyers, mediating
negotiations between sellers and buyers among others. In this paper, we focus on the sales process
from contract to closing, criteria for a successful transaction from the buyer and seller s perspectives,
and how to resolve problems as they rise.
Methods and Process of How to Obtain a Database of Potential Customers One method is the Sphere
of Influence. Sphere of Influence model helps to build contacts and generate leads in real estate. It is a
networking strategy that centers on creating real estate leads through the people that the agent already
knows. This includes the agent s family, business associates, friends, sports team members, classmates
and even vendors. The agent, in this case, has to keep track of all the contact and name information in
one place, for instance, in a spreadsheet program excel, email contacts database, or any commercial
software. After the agent establishes the Sphere of Influence database, it will be quite easy to add
contacts as he or she meets people at various community events, or any other means. An agent that has

Rewarding Students By Providing Feedback
Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but
also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus
on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost
morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter
the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback.
Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need.
Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more
transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I
believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in
high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to
get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with
certain actions that are taken. Changing this may be difficult, but providing women with opportunities
will give them a chance to prove themselves. My leadership philosophy is based on the idea of giving
others opportunity and making sure moral and ethical standards are kept. A leader s faith, values and
character should all be a priority in their leadership style and should never be risked.

Teen Identity
The teen film genre aims to shatter the construct or provide moments of self discovery to symbolize
how teens react against the adult world and struggles within society. At the end of the film the high
school a voiceover of Brian reading out a letter written by him to Mr Vernon, the teacher, effectively
embodies the teen process of finding their identity:
You see us as you want to see us in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions: a brain, an
athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Correct?
That s the way we saw each other at 7:00 this morning. We were brainwashed.
The opening scene acts as commentary to a universal struggle: the relationship between teenagers and
their parents. Immediately, they are classified by their stereotypical high school identities which
ultimately analyzes the social class. After the opening credits, the camera focuses on the front of a
Mercedes Benz car, a swank sedan (Wood, 1986), framing its logo in close up to emphasise the wealth
of the owner, a character who is successful in Reagan s capitalist America. Claire and her father are
the occupants and her role as the rich popular girl or the princess is immediately established. Her
father s clothes reinforces their wealthy status as he wears a Burberry scarf and a Brooks Brothers suit
(Wood 1986). Claire is depicted as pretty, pristine, clean cut and exudes an elite nonchalance (Shary,
2002). But her true character is revealed as more complex and infused with a

Reaching the Cape of Good Hope in 1487, they were led by the navigator, Vasco da Gama, across the
Indian Ocean to discover the sea route to the Far East in 1497. They knew of the existence of lands
across the Atlantic and they had made several expeditions to the West before Columbus discovered the
Antilles in 1492, but they had kept the knowledge to themselves in order to forestall the ambitions of
Spain, England, and France. For a small nation, secrecy was the only available method of
safeguarding the rewards of bold and successful exploration against exploitation by more powerful
maritime rivals.
The Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) settled the question of possession of the new lands between Spain
and Portugal. It was agreed that territories lying east of a meridian 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde
Islands should belong to Portugal, the lands to the west to Spain. This imaginary line, from pole to
pole, cut through the eastern most part of the South American continent and constituted Brazil s first
frontier, although the formal discovery by Pedro Alvares Cabral did not take place until six years later
in 1500.
First Settlements (1530 1549)
Cabral s voyage was soon followed by other Portuguese expeditions. The most exploitable wealth they
found was a wood that produced red and purples dyes, pau brasil (from which the country derived its
name). Organized occupation only began in 1530,

Comparison Of The Price And Stephen King s Misery
The last two plays that I have seen on Broadway were Arthur Miller s The Price, and Stephen King s
Misery. Both plays were extremely interesting and captivating to watch because of their simple set
design, small cast, and concentrated, straightforward plot. Similarly, these plays employed non
exaggerated direction, and focused on more subtle movements and stage direction to focus on the
focal point of the scene. Both plays were mainly dramas, so the direction caused the plays to feel more
personal and visceral. In Arthur Miller s The Price, one significant stage picture that stood out was a
scene where Gregory Solomon (played by Danny Devito) is eating an egg downstage right center,
while Victor Franz (played by Mark Ruffalo) stands in center stage having an argument with Solomon.
Solomon was directed to sit further downstage than Franz in order to pull the audiences attention
towards his actions. In the scene, Devito devours a hard boiled egg while trying to explain furniture
appraisal to Ruffalo; Devito never stopped talking and eating (doing both at the same time). This
direction to not break dialogue further intrigued the audience because it pulled the audiences attention
towards Devito and the question of when he would finish. The physicality of the stage picture was not
excessive or magnified to draw attention, yet the scene was compelling because of the focused
attention on detail and realism in character movement and direction. In Stephen King s Misery, the

Research Summary on Improving the Sony PlayStation Video...
The Sony PlayStation has stable ground in the video game industry, but needs to evolve more. The
lack of networking capabilities and limit of software offerings has kept the PlayStation from
controlling the market. Sony must also market better and make the people aware of what the Sony
PlayStation and PlayStation Network have to offer. Through research and interviews, we have
discovered that the general public is uninformed of the network s capabilities. Sony needs to focus on
customer needs and wants to reach their customers better. Currently, the PlayStation 3 s strongest
aspect Word choice. However, Sony has the opportunity to regain market control with improved
networking and a wider range of software.

Sony is also expanding their networking capabilities to their PlayStation Portable, or PSP. The new
PSP Go is designed smaller than the original PSP and has download only games. The PSP Go revolves
primarily around the use of internet and networking. The PSP has a couple new features which include
the Blu Ray Portable copy, which allows users to transfer a movie from the PlayStation 3 to a PSP.
Remote play, another new feature, allows for people to transfer files such as movies, pictures, or
music from the PS3 to PSP. Sony is also planning to expand their networking capabilities to other
products such as televisions, computers and Blu Ray players. With this, users of a Sony TV, computer
or Blu Ray player to access the Sony Network to download movies and other features. Sony has even
gone on to create a new company called Sony Networking, to handle and expand these capabilities. In
addition to the opportunity that Sony has to take advantage of the networking aspect, Sony must
continue to work on their brand name. Sony s brand name has become less powerful in the recent
years and is partially due to the very wide range of product offerings that spread Sony thin. Since they
offer so many products, it is difficult to concentrate and make each of those products the best in the
market. According to Rick Giusto, The Sony name just isn t the same as it even was five years ago. It

The Success of the Pirates of the Caribbean in Appealing to a Wide Audience
Pirates of the Caribbean has a wide range of attractive qualities such as the fast paced action and the
way the camera work, music and action fit in together to make a fantastic family film witch draws you
to watch it again and again.
The hero s and villains play an interesting part but the best part is played by Johnny Depp as the anti
hero captain Jack Sparrow. His cunning personality makes you grin as even in the face of death he s
laughing and making jokes. For example towards the end of the film when he is about to be hung he is

The fast paced action like the swordfight between him and Barbossa at the end, two immortal pirates
locked in an everlasting battle.
This makes the film wide ranged because has romance, action, comedy, and fantasy, this helps the film
appeal to a wider audience.
The fantasy part of the film in my opinion is the best aspect of the film. The idea of pirates and curses
would fascinate the audience to watch with interest. It is a compelling story line which works well
with the special effects. For example when Elizabeth first learns about the curse and doesn t believe it
she walks out onto the deck and sees all the all the pirates in their ghostly form. Any film goer would
love this new and original storyline
The camera angles work well in the different parts of the film. At the beginning of the film when we
first see Elizabeth as a child the angle starts low and then zooms in on Elizabeth just the way the
camera is positioned shows us that Elizabeth is an important character. In another part of the film
when the undead pirates are walking on the sea bed the wide angle gives an affect that there are more
pirates than there really are. This gives the film a better look which appeals to everyone that is
watching.
The range of music in the film is excellent. The music is

FDI in Real Estate of India and China Essay
FDI in Real Estate of India and China
FDI refers to the investment made by a foreign individual or company in productive capacity of
another country for example, the purchase or construction of a factory. FDI also refers to the purchase
of a controlling interest in existing operations and businesses (known as mergers and acquisitions).
Multinational firms seeking to tap natural resources, access lucrative or emerging markets, and keep
production costs down by accessing low wage labour pools in developing countries are FDI investors.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) is the movement of capital across national frontiers in a manner that
grants the investor control over the acquired asset. Thus it is distinct from portfolio investment ...

This includes the type of FDI, sector, scale, duration and location of business and secondary effects. A
refocusing of perspective, from merely enhancing the availability of FDI, to the better application of
FDI for sustainable objectives is crucial to push the debate forward. Various international fora and
discussion have outlined a range of positive and negative aspects of FDI as a source of development
for developing countries, some of which are discussed below.
1. Stimulation of national economy
FDI is thought to bring certain benefits to national economies. It can contribute to Gross Domestic
Product (GDP), Gross Fixed Capital Formation (total investment in a host economy) and balance of
payments. There have been empirical studies indicating a positive link between higher GDP and FDI
inflows (OECD a.), however the link does not hold for all regions, e.g. over the last ten years FDI has
increased in Central Europe whilst GDP has dropped. FDI can also contribute toward debt servicing
repayments, stimulate export markets and produce foreign exchange revenue.
Subsidiaries of Trans National Corporations (TNCs), which bring the vast portion of FDI, are
estimated to produce around a third of total global exports. However, levels of FDI do not necessarily
give any indication of the domestic gain (UNCTAD 1999). Corporate strategies e.g. protective tariffs
and transfer pricing can reduce the level of corporate tax received by host

Long Beach Erosion
Throughout history, the coastline of Sandy Bay has been subject to erosion. The areas focussed on in
this study are Nutgrove and Long Beach. Erosion was first documented in this area in 1813. Sea level
rise and the increase in the frequency and severity of weather events is currently having an impact on
the land cover of both Nutgrove and Long Beach and this is erosion is likely to increase as time passes
and climate change progresses.
In an attempt to combat erosion and interest more people in visiting this area an ongoing project has
been implemented along Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach. The project aims to reduce the rate of
erosion and make the area a desirable place for people to visit for many years to come. One of the
most recent additions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along Nutgrove Beach vegetation management has been implemented to prevent and reduce future
erosion. This has been done by planting plants in the dunes in the hope of the plants trapping the sand
and preventing further erosion. As well as vegetation management to protect the dunes, a fence has
also been assembled in front of the dunes to prevent people from accessing the dunes and causing
further erosion to the dunes and damaging the vegetation. This has been successful and has
significantly reduced the extent of the erosion of the sand dunes at Nutgrove Beach.
Around the foreshore of both Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach, rocks have been added to the
foreshore to prevent further erosion of the beach. This has been successful in reducing the amount of
sand that is drawn out to sea.
The waves flowing up onto the beach have caused sand to wash up into the areas where there are stairs
coming down from the seawall. This clearly highlights the force of the waves and the movement of
the sand that is occurring as a

Plato s Apology And The Apology
In this paper I will discuss how Plato s Apology and Phaedo have difference ideas of what it means to
be a philosopher. I will explain how in the Apology, the philosopher is wise in how he/she understand
that they are wise because they know that they don t know, and in Phadeo the philosopher
knowledgable and are concern in gaining more knowledge.
In Plato s Apology we learn about Socrates life and who he really is. In platos Apology a philosopher
is a wise person because he understands that being wise is understanding that they know they don t
know. Is something difficult to understand but I will break it down as simple as I can. Socrates was a
citizen that knew that he did not know and also knew that everyone else also did not ... Show more

Someone that would call themselves wise, Socrates would question him or her until they did not had
an answer to Socrates questions, and that would demonstrate that in reality those people where not
wise as they would call themselves, even though himself would not had an answer either. Although,
Socrates did not claimed to have knowledge of what he did not know and not claimed to have wisdom
when he believed he did not, Socrates understood that those who claimed to have knowledge did not
really know about what they claimed to know as well as wisdom and thats what made Socrates more
wise. Therefore, In the Apology Socrates was wise because he believed that he was not wise.
In the Apology the Oracle believed that there was no other person wiser that Socrates because
Socrates believed that he was not wise. It its crazy to believe that a person is wise because that person
believes he or she is not wise but if you put some thought into it it makes total sense. How can
someone in this earth call themselves wise when in reality they do not have every answer. Socrates in
the Apology would totally agree that it is wiser for someone to believe that being wise is to not call
themselves wise but to know that they don t know and that is because thats what Socrates did
throughout his life in the Apology until his sentenced.
In the other hand in Plato s Phaedo the philosopher

However, this was not enough because social change was not instigated by labor or political parties

Auguste Bartholdi
Although the creation of the Statue of Liberty was a group effort, the Creative Hero behind the
massive project was Auguste Bartholdi.
Bartholdi was born in Colmar, France on August 2, 1834. Through his childhood and early adulthood
Bartholdi extensively studied art, sculpture, and architecture in Colmar and later Paris. Eventually, he
landed on sculpture as his passion.
Some of Bartholdi s early sculpture work is in Colmar and was cast in bronze. Like most creators,
Auguste Bartholdi got his inspiration for the Statue of Liberty from his experiences on a trip to Yemen
and Egypt with other artists. This trip sparked his interest in colossal sculpture after visiting the
Pyramids and the Sphinx. [pic of pyramids and sphinx] In 1871, he traveled to the United States and

What can we learn from Bartholdi?
*Bartholdi spent his life creating sculpture to improve the world and to make a statement about the
things that he valued.
*He drew his inspiration from classic design to make a landmark that inspires four million visitors
each year.
*The enduring value and meaning of the Statue of liberty is just as relevant today as it was when it

Why Do Americans Value Personal Control
1. What do you agree with? Americans value personal control over the environment, time and its
control, equality, individuals and privacy, self help control, equality, directness, and material
possessions. Like in the example of moon landings, Americans seem to try to do things never
accomplished before, not taking things for granted. This is evidenced in the Civil Rights Movement,
where people fought for their rights despite harsh retaliation. The American value of time and its
control can be noticed throughout all businesses and schools. At a young age, children are taught to be
on time, and as adults, not arriving to places on time will greatly change others perceptions. As shown
by the dislike of socialism, herd mentality, and intrusion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident in school. Compared to many countries around the world, the classroom is not a very
competitive atmosphere; it is in fact somewhat relaxed. In China, for example, class rank is often
public, and many students are driven by parents to study more and go to better colleges than their
peers. In America, students seem to care more about social lives, and many will choose colleges that
they think they will be happy at. This also shows that Americans do not strongly value action/work
orientation and future orientation, as most students would often rather relax and enjoy their lives,
rather than prepare ardently for their futures. Americans are not very informal and casual, with strict
social rules that are not always evident in other countries. For example, to walk the streets barefoot
would be odd and possibly mocked here, whereas people in poorer countries may do it on a day to day
basis. Furthermore, dinner table rules are rather strict compared to other places. In China, meals seem
louder and more casual than in America. Finally, practicality seems to be less of a concern than
general look or value. A person may buy a pair of shoes simply for their design, even if it is awkward
and out of place in his/her daily

Psychosocial Stages In Antwone Fisher
The movie, Antwone Fisher, is a biography based off a real person named Antwone Fisher. It follows
the problems he lived through in his life. In the movie, Antwone goes through Erikson s Psychosocial
stages and solves many of the problems he had when growing up. Erik Erikson s stages of
Psychosocial Development is a theory that says every individual goes through eight stages throughout
their life as they get older. He states that every person has a crisis in each stage and the outcome of
each stage shapes how one is and how one will be for the rest of their lives. The first stage is trust
versus mistrust which occurs from birth to 1.5 years old. If an infant successfully develops trust, he or
she feels safe and secure. On the other hand, a child who fails to develop trust will feel afraid and that
the world is unpredictable all their life. It is clear that Antwone gained mistrust because he was born in
a prison and probably was not properly cared for. His father was never around him because he died
before he was born. An example of Antwone showing mistrust later in his life is in the beginning of
the movie. A white guy who was in the navy with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is during the ages 18 to 40 (early adulthood). This stage deals with forming personal relationships
and feeling loved. Successful relationships are one that are enduring and secure. Having a strong sense
of self identity is important for developing intimate relationships according to Erickson. People in less
committed relationships are more likely to suffer emotional isolation, loneliness, and depression. At
first, Antwone is isolated. He was 25 and had never been in a relationship before and was still a virgin.
This is because he was traumatized as a child when he got raped by Nadine at the age of six and he
was still finding who he was. By the end, he was in a happy relationship with Cheryl, who he was
committed to, and he was no longer a

Harry Potter Betrayal
From Julius Caesar s twenty three stab wounds to Gatsby s disloyal love, the importance of the cruel
act of betrayal in literature has long been discussed. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also
appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty
within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love and bravery in
Rowling s beloved series. In the Harry Potter books betrayals are used to reveal truths about
characters, represent development, and uphold the belief held within all seven of the books: that we
are defined by the choices that we make. Within the Harry Potter series, betrayals are often used to
show sides of characters that we might not have otherwise seen. With the first wizarding war in full
swing Lily and James Potter (in hiding from Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters) are betrayed by
their close friend Peter Pettigrew. As their secret keeper it is his responsibility to protect them to his
own death. Instead he goes against the traits of his house, bravery and chivalry, by betraying them.
Fear trumps Pettigrew s loyalty to the Potters. He does not change his values or replace his friends, he

Peter Pettigrew betrayed his friends and his values in spite of what our assumptions would tell us
about a brave Gryffindor. Because of his decision he spent the rest of his life serving a master who he
feared and hated. Regulus Black betrayed a cause he was raised to believe in and knew was evil, and
died protecting his brother and the others fighting in the resistance. This shows that no upbringing and
no house can define you as good or evil. The final thing that defines a person are the values they are
unable to betray. The betrayals within the Harry Potter Series ask us to reconsider our assumptions
about people, no matter why we may have made

Personal Reflection On Race And Race In A Classroom
Going into this unit, I was apprehensive. I had never really talked about race in a classroom setting. I
did not know how comfortable I was with talking about race in a large group of people. After this unit,
I felt a ton more comfortable talking about race, which I think is going to be very helpful going into
high school. Although I found the entire unit very interesting and enlightening, I thought that the
words to use activity and documentary episodes one and two were really important in furthering my
understanding of race and how to talk about race.
Although all of the things that we watched and talked about were very helpful and interesting, the
thing that I found to be the most helpful was the words to use. Staring this unit, one of the things that I
was most worried about was being offensive on accident. I had never really had to talk about race with
a lot of people, and I had no clue why some words were offensive and why some were not. I was
wondering what words had negative connotations, and I was really excited to learn about what words
to use and what words not to use so that I could talk about race more comfortably. The activity was
very helpful. I learned a lot about what words to use and not use, but what really made this part of the
unit incredibly helpful was learning the reasons behind why words were offensive. For example, I
didn t know that some words like European American, or that Latino This activity made me a lot more
comfortable talking about race

Conformity Experiment
Conformity is a situation of changing one s behavior in order to match the actions of the society
around the person. The social influence cause people to agree or even behave like the majority of the
people in the specific group so that the group can perceive them as normal. Solomon Asch (1956) was
interested to know the act of people in conformity pressure. Because of that, he created an experiment
to investigate the process by asking college students in a group of eight to match the lengths of
different lines. The experiment shows that 95% of the students correctly match 12 lines without
pressure of group. Ash repeats the experiment by changing the situation. The students now need to

Descriptive Essay About Rock
One fine, beautiful morning, just as the Sun was rising, Steven hopped out of bed, and went directly to
the place he always goes. The Sunset Beach. Everything was great, but then, his day, no, his life took a
very unexpected turn. Steven is a twenty five year old man. He had lived with his parents for the
majority of his life, but had just moved out within the past year. He has dark brown eyes, and dusty
blonde hair. He is about five six, which is a little short for his age, but it doesn t bother him all that
much. In his spare time, he likes to participate in many city activities, or turn to one of his hobbies.
One hobby that he particularly enjoys is collecting rocks.
Every morning when he goes to Sunset Beach, he brings back about a dozen rock friends, just like he
did this morning. As Steven was walking, he found a beautiful, shiny, bright green Petoskey Stone. He
did not have one in his collection, so he decided to take it home with him. Little did he know that in a
few hours , this rock would change his life forever. Legend says, that whoever holds the magical
Petoskey Stone takes a very unexpected trip everyday at noon. This trip starts their life everyday, and
then one day ends it in a heartbeat. This rock fast forwards through the life of the person that has
possession of it, and continues to until one day it thinks they have lived long enough, and they die.
The scary part is, they never know which day they will be gone forever. Eventually, Steven arrived

Durkheim Racial Inequality
According to Durkheim, inter dependence and division of labor creates organic solidarity which holds
everybody in modern society together. In modern societies, people usually have different beliefs, goals
and jobs, but everybody depends on each other to live. Each of us does a specialized job in order to
keep the entire system working. For example, I don t farm but still have vegetables to eat because
somebody farms for the whole society, including me. We are bonded together by the division of labor
and the reliance on each other. However, while Durkheim thinks that division of labor is the base of
social cohesion, Marx thinks that society is divided by class differences which are created by the
division of labor. Marx claims that class difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the current criminal justice system, police can search houses, luggage or the people themselves with
minor reasons or even no reasons. With the overwhelming power, police don t actually treat people in
every race fairly. According to The New Jim Crow, people of color are more likely to be stopped, be
questioned, be arrested, and go to prisons than whites (Alexander 2012). Moreover, African
Americans and Latinos are the majority of the prisoners in the prisons in US (Alexander 2012). In
fact, three quarters of prisoners who are arrested for drug abuse are people of color, moreover, black
people are twenty to twenty five times more likely to be arrested for drug abusing (Alexander 2012).
Even though illegal drug dealings are done among every race, including whites, the executors of the
criminal justice system irrationally associated people of color with drug abuse. When police are overly
powered by the criminal justice system and simultaneously target people of color for no reasons,
criminal justice system is contradicting

John Patrick Shanley s Doubt
Douglas Light said that our imagination is better than any answer to a question. Light distinguished
between two genres: fantasy from fiction. He described how fantasy stimulates one s imagination,
which is more appealing, but fiction can just be a relatable story. In the same way, Books and movies
are very different entities. In the short parable Doubt, the readers are lured in to the possibility of a
scandalous relationship between a pastor and an alter boy. The readers curiosity is ignited because
they are not given all the details. Therefore, their mind wanders further than the plot to create a story
and characters that acted on one s imagination; thus, the story became entertaining flooded by the
questions of what? Who? How? By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, all the details within the play stimulated one s imagination to create something that was never
stated in writing. In no part of the play does it outright say that Father Flynn had any encounter with
the alter boys other than during basketball practice and his apparent close friendship with Donald
Muller. Yet, through the reader s imagination, they assume scandalous scenarios between the Donald
Muller and Father Flynn while still curious about what the truth is. The viewer was in constant doubt,
of both characters intentions and motives. The parable is filled with indirect notions, assumptions, and
gossiping. So why is this specific parable so entertaining? Its simple the reader used their imagination
to piece together a relationship that at multiple times in the play cause them to doubt their own beliefs
and consider the opposing possibilities. The play let you feel everything, know everything and live
vicariously through the characters. With the play, you can Sister Aloysius, Father Flynn, or even
Donald Muller; however, with the movie you are merely an observer.
Books allow you to make up parts of the story(visuals and what people are like) while movies are
more direct telling you what to see.
The play involved more character devolement, so the reader was able to learn the

How Did Islam Spread
Islam s story, as you could probably guess, started with the prophet Muhammad. Islam first appeared
in Arabia. But what was Arabia like before Islam arose? Before the rise of Muhammad and Islamic
religion the Arabian Peninsula was originally the home to a group of nomadic desert dwellers who
were able to deal with the harsh desert climate by migrating every season. In the fifth century BC
more people groups began establishing settlements, many chose Mecca, by the west coast of Saudi
Arabia. This location did not provide a preferable climate or many natural resources, but was the site
of a large cubical shrine dedicated to various deities, this was called the site of Ka ba.
The beginning of Islam can be traced all the way back to Saudi Arabia in the 7th century. It is believed
that Islam was actually introduced 610 A.D. (A.D. stands for the Latin phrase anno domini, which
means ¨in the year of our Lord¨). Muhammad introduced Islam after claiming that he experienced
what he believed to be an angelic visitation. Muhammad then dedicated the holy book of Islam known
as Qur´an. This is the beginning of Islam according to Secular History. ... Show more content on

John Calvin s Influence On Society
John Calvin was born in Noyon, France on July 10th 1509. At fourteen he was sent to Paris to study
theology, and developed an interest in the writings of Augustine. Calvin was able to receive his Master
s degree at the age of 19. His father then insisted that he take up law instead, wanting his son to follow
in his footsteps. But he returned to theology when his father died. Similar occurrences are still a global
issue, especially in strict traditional households. Students are forced to study and practice beliefs or
forms of education that only their parents approve of. In many cases the student will disobey their
parents which will create broken families and the loss of parental support.
During the 16th century the Protestant Reformation was blooming. Catholic Europe was being broken
due to the challenges in political, religious and intellectual belief. In 1534, Calvin underwent a sudden
change and became an ardent Protestant. With everyone having different beliefs, Calvin had his own
and wanted to share it with the world. A Protestant is a Christian who belongs to one of the many
branches of Christianity that have developed out of the Protestant Reformation started by Martin
Luther in 1517. After Journeying to Basel, a Protestant city within Switzerland, Calvin published his
first systematic theology, Institutes of the Christian Religion. Institutes of the Christian Religion
became highly influential with the Western civilizations. Calvin s writings gave an introductory

Some of the pros regarding the horsemeat scandal is that no one had been seriously hurt by consuming
the meat, even when there had been some reports on potential health risks it may bring to those who
eat it.
Another pro was it shows customers who go to local supermarkets to do their shopping that they
should always check the products that they are buying, even if it has the same brand of the meat that
you usually buy, always check the ingredients, in case other traces of substances may be included by

Killing horses is inhumane, horse are killed brutally for their meat, and this can also lead to issues to
religions and ethical sides to it. A lot of slaughter houses in operation causes a lot of suffering to
innocent horses, this is why when the horsemeat scandal had arisen, and so many people had been
angry and frustrated.
Another con was that horsemeat in the system posed severe health risks to those who consumed it.
Experts have stated that blood is so hard to neutralize and to dispose of in a non toxic manner this
means that slaughterhouses are also a risk to the environment as well as people s health, as without
proper supervision , the farmers also have a high chance of contracting the same infection as well as
those who eat it.
Another main concern would be the moral and social side, as horses have been considered
domesticated animals, which means that they are considered as pets and companions to some people,
by being killed mercilessly, a lot of outrage and question will be arisen for such a

Essay about Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes To Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky, as well as his other Western stories, owe much to
Mark Twain s approach to the West. According to Eric Solomon, both authors...used humor to
comment on the flaws of traditional fictional processes (237). While employing parody of the Western
literary tradition, Crane also uses realism to depict the influence of the East on the West. In The Bride
Comes to Yellow Sky, Stephen Crane uses symbolism to develop his study of the changes effected on
the West and the roles of its inhabitants by the encroachment of eastern society.

Potter is embarrassed in the great eastern train car. He is not accustomed to the fancy Victorian
environment, and neither is his wife. Potter is also worried about the act of his marriage itself. He felt
the shadow of a deed weigh upon him like a leaden slab. He, the town marshal of Yellow Sky, a man
known, liked, and feared in his corner... [had married] without consulting Yellow Sky for any part of
the transaction (Crane 403). Potter had defiled the idea of the Marshal, a figure fearsome and
independent (Solomon 252). Potter also ignored the Western tradition of partnership and consulting
one s friends before marriage. He has told no one and is quietly attempting to sneak his bride back into
town. This bride is the catalyst of change that is sure to wreak havoc on the social structure of Yellow
Sky, and Potter knows it.
Potter s opposite, Scratchy Wilson cannot face his own two roles (Solomon 252). Where Potter has
realized and is attempting to accept his new role, Scratchy will do nothing of the kind. Scratchy is the
town s drunken bum. The occupants of the town are terrified as he rages up and down the street.
Scratchy is, however, almost comical in his decorative shirt and fancy boots. Though he isn t
conscious of it, these are a symbol of the East s encroachment on Scratchy. His shirt was made

  • 2. Photosynthesis and Respiration All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesis is the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2 The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain shape and ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Critical Review of The Fall and Rise of Strategic... Contents Page Introduction Placing the article in wider literature debate Underlying theoretical assumptions Strengths and Weaknesses Concluding remarks References 2 2 3 4 5 6 Introduction In today s modern society shaped by economic and social challenges, business strategy has never been more important. A rethink of theoretical management practices is fundamental to establishing innovative strategic design to cope with these challenges. (Hahn et al, 2010). This is not a new idea, in fact, in 2009, Guerrera challenged Michael Porter s underlying premise that businesses are there to make money while Figge and Hahn (2008) go as far as to accuse such strategies of aggravating the current economic situation. Henry Mintzberg s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They conclude that meaning, compromising perspective, knowledge, and learning, underlies action. [p88] It is evident that this debate will continue to grow in interest and relevance in a modern, global society and it is important to look at the underlying premise behind Mintzberg s conviction. Underlying premise Mintzberg s underlying assumption is that businesses must learn which opportunities are available in the current and future environments and to do this, strategy must be developed by managers at the operational level: built from occasional nuggets they uncover [p111] and not by senior managers and analysts in an ivory tower looking backwards at past data. Birger Wernerfelt, (1984) illustrates an organisation driven, resource based view of strategy in which firms can influence the environment in which they operate. Wernerfelt argues that firms must first understand their organisation and develop ways to shape their business surroundings accordingly. On the other side of this learning debate, Porter (1985) presents a positioning approach where the role of the strategist is to identify the external forces of the environment (Competitive forces Model: Porter, 1979) and find a unique and valuable position in which the firm can flourish. As is typical in organisational strategy, nothing is clear cut and indeed Mintzberg s article draws parallels with both Wernerfelt and Porter. In this article, he argues that organisations must learn which opportunities are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Tyger Religion The Lamb and The Tyger Religion had a powerful influence on William Blake during the Romanticism period. As a poet, William used imagination, presented emotions and the concept of nature. He placed his voice through the words of his poems. In The Lamb he displays the teachings of Christianity. William Blake strives for the reader to embrace the Creator outlooks of innocence and wildness. In The Tyger he tries to make the reader understand why such an animal was originated. However, the author emphasizes to the reader the purpose of God s creations. The lamb is characterized as the peaceful perspective of God. (Blake line 20). William Blake s curiosity makes the reader feel uncertain. He only highlights the importance of the tyger through asking questions. Blake s questions were challenging the principles of Christianity. He was underling why God created the beautiful lamb and the ferocious tyger. He wanted people to know that the world is filled with tranquility and disturbance. God himself wants people to adhere to the opposites of life. The way we humans deal with beauty with horror and love with pain. God is the creator of both creatures, but also the creator of such emotions presented within them. People misconceive the perception and the purpose of the tyger. God himself is the human soul of honesty and brute force. When the stars threw down their spears and water d heaven with their tears (Blake 17 18). The stars act as our saviors; like angels to protect us. Although, nature acts as a warrior. Nature quickly placed on its armor to attack the dangerous tyger. The waters cried due to the nefarious existence of such a creature. Not only nature, but man himself on Earth is not aware of what the tyger can do. The purpose of the tyger is to be our weapon to destroy injustice and cruel activities in the world. The tyger is our inner strength to ward off evil. God himself is the tyger because he is the one that helps his devotees in the time of hardships. He does not let his devotees suffer or be faced with degradation. William Blake depicted the tyger as the malevolent beast, to make the reader apprehend the beauty of God s creation. Influence Of Sales Process For Real Estate Transaction Sales Process for Real Estate Transaction The real estate agents have the duty and the responsibility to represent clients throughout the sales process. Agents plays significant roles such as managing lists of contacts, advising clients on mortgages, pricing and market conditions, guiding buyers and sellers through the transaction process, generating lists of appropriate properties for buyers, mediating negotiations between sellers and buyers among others. In this paper, we focus on the sales process from contract to closing, criteria for a successful transaction from the buyer and seller s perspectives, and how to resolve problems as they rise. Methods and Process of How to Obtain a Database of Potential Customers One method is the Sphere of Influence. Sphere of Influence model helps to build contacts and generate leads in real estate. It is a networking strategy that centers on creating real estate leads through the people that the agent already knows. This includes the agent s family, business associates, friends, sports team members, classmates and even vendors. The agent, in this case, has to keep track of all the contact and name information in one place, for instance, in a spreadsheet program excel, email contacts database, or any commercial software. • 8. Rewarding Students By Providing Feedback Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback. Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need. Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with certain actions that are taken. Changing this may be difficult, but providing women with opportunities will give them a chance to prove themselves. My leadership philosophy is based on the idea of giving others opportunity and making sure moral and ethical standards are kept. A leader s faith, values and character should all be a priority in their leadership style and should never be risked. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Teen Identity The teen film genre aims to shatter the construct or provide moments of self discovery to symbolize how teens react against the adult world and struggles within society. At the end of the film the high school a voiceover of Brian reading out a letter written by him to Mr Vernon, the teacher, effectively embodies the teen process of finding their identity: You see us as you want to see us in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions: a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Correct? That s the way we saw each other at 7:00 this morning. We were brainwashed. The opening scene acts as commentary to a universal struggle: the relationship between teenagers and their parents. Immediately, they are classified by their stereotypical high school identities which ultimately analyzes the social class. After the opening credits, the camera focuses on the front of a Mercedes Benz car, a swank sedan (Wood, 1986), framing its logo in close up to emphasise the wealth of the owner, a character who is successful in Reagan s capitalist America. Claire and her father are the occupants and her role as the rich popular girl or the princess is immediately established. Her father s clothes reinforces their wealthy status as he wears a Burberry scarf and a Brooks Brothers suit (Wood 1986). Claire is depicted as pretty, pristine, clean cut and exudes an elite nonchalance (Shary, 2002). But her true character is revealed as more complex and infused with a ... Reaching the Cape of Good Hope in 1487, they were led by the navigator, Vasco da Gama, across the Indian Ocean to discover the sea route to the Far East in 1497. They knew of the existence of lands across the Atlantic and they had made several expeditions to the West before Columbus discovered the Antilles in 1492, but they had kept the knowledge to themselves in order to forestall the ambitions of Spain, England, and France. For a small nation, secrecy was the only available method of safeguarding the rewards of bold and successful exploration against exploitation by more powerful maritime rivals. The Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) settled the question of possession of the new lands between Spain and Portugal. It was agreed that territories lying east of a meridian 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde Islands should belong to Portugal, the lands to the west to Spain. This imaginary line, from pole to pole, cut through the eastern most part of the South American continent and constituted Brazil s first frontier, although the formal discovery by Pedro Alvares Cabral did not take place until six years later in 1500. First Settlements (1530 1549) Cabral s voyage was soon followed by other Portuguese expeditions. The most exploitable wealth they

  • 12. Comparison Of The Price And Stephen King s Misery The last two plays that I have seen on Broadway were Arthur Miller s The Price, and Stephen King s Misery. Both plays were extremely interesting and captivating to watch because of their simple set design, small cast, and concentrated, straightforward plot. Similarly, these plays employed non exaggerated direction, and focused on more subtle movements and stage direction to focus on the focal point of the scene. Both plays were mainly dramas, so the direction caused the plays to feel more personal and visceral. In Arthur Miller s The Price, one significant stage picture that stood out was a scene where Gregory Solomon (played by Danny Devito) is eating an egg downstage right center, while Victor Franz (played by Mark Ruffalo) stands in center stage having an argument with Solomon. Solomon was directed to sit further downstage than Franz in order to pull the audiences attention towards his actions. In the scene, Devito devours a hard boiled egg while trying to explain furniture appraisal to Ruffalo; Devito never stopped talking and eating (doing both at the same time). This direction to not break dialogue further intrigued the audience because it pulled the audiences attention towards Devito and the question of when he would finish. The fantasy part of the film in my opinion is the best aspect of the film. The idea of pirates and curses would fascinate the audience to watch with interest. It is a compelling story line which works well with the special effects. For example when Elizabeth first learns about the curse and doesn t believe it she walks out onto the deck and sees all the all the pirates in their ghostly form. Any film goer would love this new and original storyline The camera angles work well in the different parts of the film. At the beginning of the film when we first see Elizabeth as a child the angle starts low and then zooms in on Elizabeth just the way the camera is positioned shows us that Elizabeth is an important character. In another part of the film when the undead pirates are walking on the sea bed the wide angle gives an affect that there are more pirates than there really are. • 15. FDI in Real Estate of India and China Essay FDI in Real Estate of India and China FDI refers to the investment made by a foreign individual or company in productive capacity of another country for example, the purchase or construction of a factory. FDI also refers to the purchase of a controlling interest in existing operations and businesses (known as mergers and acquisitions). Multinational firms seeking to tap natural resources, access lucrative or emerging markets, and keep production costs down by accessing low wage labour pools in developing countries are FDI investors. A refocusing of perspective, from merely enhancing the availability of FDI, to the better application of FDI for sustainable objectives is crucial to push the debate forward. Various international fora and discussion have outlined a range of positive and negative aspects of FDI as a source of development for developing countries, some of which are discussed below. 1. Stimulation of national economy FDI is thought to bring certain benefits to national economies. It can contribute to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross Fixed Capital Formation (total investment in a host economy) and balance of payments. There have been empirical studies indicating a positive link between higher GDP and FDI inflows (OECD a.), however the link does not hold for all regions, e.g. over the last ten years FDI has increased in Central Europe whilst GDP has dropped. FDI can also contribute toward debt servicing repayments, stimulate export markets and produce foreign exchange revenue. Subsidiaries of Trans National Corporations (TNCs), which bring the vast portion of FDI, are estimated to produce around a third of total global exports. However, levels of FDI do not necessarily give any indication of the domestic gain (UNCTAD 1999). This has been successful and has significantly reduced the extent of the erosion of the sand dunes at Nutgrove Beach. Around the foreshore of both Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach, rocks have been added to the foreshore to prevent further erosion of the beach. I will explain how in the Apology, the philosopher is wise in how he/she understand that they are wise because they know that they don t know, and in Phadeo the philosopher knowledgable and are concern in gaining more knowledge. In Plato s Apology we learn about Socrates life and who he really is. In platos Apology a philosopher is a wise person because he understands that being wise is understanding that they know they don t know. Therefore, In the Apology Socrates was wise because he believed that he was not wise. In the Apology the Oracle believed that there was no other person wiser that Socrates because Socrates believed that he was not wise. It its crazy to believe that a person is wise because that person believes he or she is not wise but if you put some thought into it it makes total sense. Americans value personal control over the environment, time and its control, equality, individuals and privacy, self help control, equality, directness, and material possessions. Like in the example of moon landings, Americans seem to try to do things never accomplished before, not taking things for granted. This is evidenced in the Civil Rights Movement, where people fought for their rights despite harsh retaliation. The American value of time and its control can be noticed throughout all businesses and schools. Compared to many countries around the world, the classroom is not a very competitive atmosphere; it is in fact somewhat relaxed. In China, for example, class rank is often public, and many students are driven by parents to study more and go to better colleges than their peers. In America, students seem to care more about social lives, and many will choose colleges that they think they will be happy at. This also shows that Americans do not strongly value action/work orientation and future orientation, as most students would often rather relax and enjoy their lives, rather than prepare ardently for their futures. Americans are not very informal and casual, with strict social rules that are not always evident in other countries. For example, to walk the streets barefoot would be odd and possibly mocked here, whereas people in poorer countries may do it on a day to day basis. Furthermore, dinner table rules are rather strict compared to other places. In China, meals seem louder and more casual than in America. In the movie, Antwone goes through Erikson s Psychosocial stages and solves many of the problems he had when growing up. Erik Erikson s stages of Psychosocial Development is a theory that says every individual goes through eight stages throughout their life as they get older. He states that every person has a crisis in each stage and the outcome of each stage shapes how one is and how one will be for the rest of their lives. The first stage is trust versus mistrust which occurs from birth to 1.5 years old. If an infant successfully develops trust, he or she feels safe and secure. On the other hand, a child who fails to develop trust will feel afraid and that the world is unpredictable all their life. Perhaps less historically, betrayal has also appeared in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, as two terrible wars redefine values and loyalty within the wizarding community. However, betrayal also shows itself in acts of love and bravery in Rowling s beloved series. In the Harry Potter books betrayals are used to reveal truths about characters, represent development, and uphold the belief held within all seven of the books: that we are defined by the choices that we make. Within the Harry Potter series, betrayals are often used to show sides of characters that we might not have otherwise seen. With the first wizarding war in full swing Lily and James Potter (in hiding from Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters) are betrayed by their close friend Peter Pettigrew.
