The Issue Of Child Onset Schizophrenia Essay
SOWK 506 Fall 2015
Assignment #3: Child Onset Schizophrenia Becki Kennedy and Mary Marrone
USC School of Social Work December 11, 2015
Martha Lyon Levine
Introduction This research paper focuses on the issue of child onset schizophrenia, specifically
looking at the prognosis, symptoms, stigma, and most effective treatment options for children. This
topic has become a significant social issue as a result of the recent mass school shootings
throughout the nation and the associated stigma. Severe mental illnesses, especially schizophrenia,
are being severely impacted by stigma. Society today views schizophrenia as dangerous ,
furthering this stigma. Further, little research has been done of childhood onset schizophrenia
(Hollis, 2003). However, research has shown that individuals with an earlier onset or diagnosis
experience more persistent and debilitating symptoms than those with an older age of onset
(Findling Schulz, 2005). Along with a higher occurrence of more severe symptoms, child onset
schizophrenia is a complicated issue because children are being prescribed psychotropic
medications at an early age during a period of critical brain development (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley,
2014). This greatly affects development and exposes children to very severe side effects of the
medication, resulting in a lot of patients refusing medication and the treatment they deserve.
As social workers, it is important to look at different behavioral

Catalytic Decomposition Of Hydrogen Peroxide
Factors affecting the catalytic decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide
Please refer to the additional files for tables/graphs.
Aim The purpose of this investigation is to investigate how certain factors affect the catalytic
decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide. I will investigate the effect of altering the mass of catalyst
used on the rate of the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide.
Introduction
The decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide is a process by which Hydrogen peroxide decomposes
into water and Oxygen. It has the following equation:
2H2O2 (l) 2H2O (l) + O2 (g)
This reaction does occur spontaneously at room temperature with the presence of Ultraviolet light;
however only very slowly. It occurs far faster when a catalyst is used. ... Show more content on

This lowers the rate of reaction due to the lower concentration (as explained in the variables
section). Once a Hydrogen peroxide molecule has decomposed it is no longer a consideration
and cannot decompose again as it is no longer a Hydrogen peroxide molecule. This lowers the
numbers of Hydrogen peroxide molecules present lowering the concentration thus lowering the
rate of reaction, eventually lowering the rate of reaction to nil where all (or virtually all)
Hydrogen peroxide molecules have decomposed. At this point no more products are produced as
no more Hydrogen peroxide is reacting, as no more Hydrogen peroxide is colliding with catalyst
particles, because it has all decomposed.
In this graph a higher concentration results in a higher rate of reaction whilst the reaction is
proceeding (until the rate of reaction for all concentrations reaches 0) and a higher mass of product
produced. This is because the increased chance of collisions with the catalyst, due to the increased
number and density of the Hydrogen peroxide, means at the start of the reaction there are more
collisions with the catalyst leading to a higher initial rate of reaction. I believe this rate of reaction
will be proportional to the concentration as by increasing the concentration a certain amount you
increase the number of molecules present by a proportional amount. You therefore also increase the
chance of collision with the catalyst due to increased

What Are Asics s Biggest Competitors
In this portion of the report, I will conduct an analysis of Asics two biggest competitors, Adidas
and Nike. In 2015, Asics stores totaled at 785 worldwide. These stores were located in the
Americas, Japan, EMEA, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Oceania. In comparison, Nike had a
total stores of 803 worldwide and Adidas doubled with a total of 1,616 stores according to ASICS
company documents, NIKE, INC. 2016 Annual Report, and ADIDAS Group Annual Report 2015.
Nike s sales have been a major indicator of their success in the footwear industry designating
themselves as the number one competitor. Nike has been a top brand in the footwear industry and
their records verify this information accordingly. For instance, in 2015, Nike s net income... Show

They have excelled in making Nike not just a sports shoe, but a shoe that can be worn in any
occasion. Even with Asics developing three various style of shoes for every occasion, they have
not been able to portray the brand image similar to the one Nike has established. Asics and Nike
both developed shoes that appeal to athletes, runners, and fashion forward individuals that tailor
to individuals looking firstmost for comfort. Nike targets over all major sports and casual wear.
Since Nike and Asics both originally started as a shoe company, it still seems impossible for
Asics to reach the numbers that Nike strikingly accumulates year after year. Ironically, when
Nike first established themselves in 1964, they were purchasing Onitsuka Tiger shoes from
Japan, the brand that Asics was originally known as. This image that Nike has built over time and
the fact they began as a shoe company originally has made it Nike seem impenetrable to slow

the same problem still exists: Under Armour is viewed as strictly athletic

Explain The Anti-Jewish Violence In Poland
After World War I, Poland was emerged from the breakup of the Empire and was considered a
successor state. Many Polish nationalist believed Poland should be without Jews. In fact, a right
wing national party was created that pushed Jews out and tried to establish Roman Catholic as the
dominant religion. During this time, Jewswere given economic and educational restrictions. A man
by the name of Morgenthau, explained the anti Jewish violence in Polandwith examples and was
published in a New York Times article. Below are some of the examples he used that explain the
anti Jewish violence in Poland. The first example occurred seven years after the Russian
Revolution of 1905. The Polish National Democratic Party nominated a Jew hater to represent

1984 George Orwell Essay
Psychological manipulation is a social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of
others through deceptive or even abusive tactics. Physical control is physically doing an action
yourself. In nineteen eighty four orwell created a totalitarian universe with its own history and inner
mechanism. George Orwells novel is focused against fascism.
Psychological control is a major theme throughout 1984 and Orwell shows this theme is possible by
giving examples of how a totalitarian government could gain psychological control using their
power to control history and technology. George Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning to people of
what might come in the future if people were not careful about our government. During the time

Telescreens with hidden microphones are placed throughout the city to watch the citizens every
action. There were even telescreens in every citizen s room that ran Big Brothers picture. It was
one of those pictures which are so contrived that the eyes follow you about when you move. BIG
BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU, the caption beneath it ran. (Orwell 5). People were constantly
being watched and controlled by the party. This general psychological control is the second
frightening theme in 1984. Another example uses children. Beginning at an early age, children
were brainwashed and encouraged to spy on their parents by an organization called the Junior
Spies. This organization destroyed family structure by having children report any instance of
disloyalty to the Party. The telescrenes and children are a perfect example to how the totalitarian
government abuses technology for its own purpose instead of using their knowledge to improve
civilization.
Just like the telescrenes, the theme of psychological control is scattered throughout Orwell s 1984.
Those who control the past, control the future: who controls the present controls the past , by
understanding this and a totalitarian government, we can see that with manipulation of history,
such as rewriting it and deleting personal photos, and the use of technology like cameras and
microphones, psychological control of people is easier than it

Historical Evolution And The Socio -economic Perspectives...
Intro
The aim of this report is to explore the historical evolution and the socio economic perspectives of
National Health Service (NHS) and Mental Health individuals. The report will explore the history
as far as early Nineteenth Century to the present day. The main focus will be on policies and
legislation influenced the foundation of NHS and how it has progressed to meet mental health
individual s needs. The report will also address the needs of individuals, resourced, stigma and
discrimination for the mental health individuals. Blakemore (2003) Blakemore further questioned
social policies intention to improve human welfare and to meet individual s biopsychosocial needs.
Changes were not just influenced by policies and legislation, they were also influenced by funding,
organisation of the service delivery and influential people who felt the need for change.
During the 19th and beginning of 20th centuries, there was an extension of amendments to the Poor
Law. The health service in the United Kingdom was provided by private care and charities. The
1834 Reform Act Law that focused on developing public health, local government, education and
the health services. In 1842 Edward Chadwick, from Poor Law Commission enquiry, recognised
disease as a key source to pauperism. In 1842, his Report identified sanitation as a primary key to
illness and the Public Health Act was established in 1848. The improvements of the conditions lead
to the population living longer. Nevertheless,

The Sociological Debate Of Nature And Upbringing
The first sociological concept prepped for application to the silver screen is the debate of nature
versus nurture. The phrase nature versus nurture refers to the debate concerning the origin of
human behavior and whether it is determined by biology, the nature part of the equation, or
upbringing, the nurture part of the equation. Biology, in this case, comes down to a person s
genetic predisposition, with proponents claiming that a person is born with the behaviors they
will have for the rest of their lives and nothing will change that. Nature also connects to what
fetuses are exposed to in the womb, as Van Goozen et al. 1994 showed that, ...high levels of
testosterone contribute to stereotypically masculine traits such as aggressiveness and
competitiveness (Ferris and Stein 2016:97). Upbringing, in this case, relates to the environment
someone grew up in and what they were exposed to as they started learning about the world.
Evidence has been found to support either side of the debate, but no conclusive answer has been
reached yet. For the most part, it is believed that both nature and nurture play a role in how our
behaviors and identity develop. The second sociological concept that it up for discussion is the
social conflict theory. This term is used to describe the relationship Karl Marxsaw between between
the bourgeoisie, the owners of the means of productions or, anything that can create wealth (Ferris
and Stein 2016:25), and the proletariat, the workers who

Garrett Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Summary
Garrett Hardin, who wrote Lifeboat Ethics: The Case against Helping the Poor gives us his
central metaphor of a lifeboat. It tells us if we put too many people in our lifeboat, it will sink
and everyone will die. Harding believes that this metaphor is appropriate because despite our
prosperity our resources are limited. If the United States were to help poor countries, we wouldn t
leave any for the United States, we would just put ourselves in a situation to ensure that we become
poor like them. The potential number of impoverished people in need of our help is unlimited,
especially if we keep helping them. Hardin informs us that the well intentioned of helping is
actually counterproductive. When the United States gives international aid to third worldcountries,
we cause more suffering in the end. The poor country that receives aid is not growing wealthy or...

The foreign country receiving aid needs to receive the correct type of help for them to get out of
poverty. If they received affordable education and studies, they will be able to obtain skills needed
to improve and stabilize their country. When they receive certain skills, they will be more
prominent to get jobs to help provide for them. With better education, they will be able to form a
strong country and become wealthy. The United States has many resources already, so much that
the government pays farmers not to grow crops. When the poor county becomes wealthy, they will

Importance Of Puritans
Strict Puritan beliefs have been around since the late 16th century. Puritans believe in
predestination, which is the belief that God already has a plan for the people living on earth.
Puritans believe in intolerance towards others which includes religious beliefs that differ from their
own. Unification of church and state is a significant part of Puritanbelief because nothing is more
important to a Puritan than God and getting into heaven. Puritans valued education because people
need to know how to read in order to read the bible. Even though the reasoning of importance may
be different from a Puritan s perspective their beliefs still exist today. Puritan beliefs still exist today

Religious wars are still present today, which proves that worldwide people have a difficult time
accepting new religious beliefs. ISIS members are Muslim extremists who do not accept other
people s religious viewpoints, similar to the Puritans, muslim extremists believe there is only one
right way to worship God and that is the Muslim way. Members of ISIS are starting a holy war
because they are trying to carry out deeds in the name of God because they believe that is what
God wants. Intolerance towards others is exhibited in today s society through the failed attempt of
the First Amendment, and through the occurrence of a holy war. Unification of state and church
has decreased significantly over the last couple centuries but is still around in today s society
through laws, failed attempts at trying to keep the church out of school, and through US currency.
As much as people do not want to admit that laws come from the Bible, no one knows who decided
that killing people is wrong. The Ten Commandmentsare ten standards that Christians believe God
set for people on earth, and in order to proceed to heaven after death, people must follow all ten of
the commandments. Each species follow their own customs, for example, female praying mantises
eat male praying mantises which is normal for praying mantises.

Psychology Of The Piece Of Literature
Psychoanalysis is a type of criticism focused on the psychology of the piece of literature.
Through the analysis of the psychology behind a work, a conclusion can be made about it s
meaning. Psychoanalysis plays a huge role in the play Hamlet. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare
utilizes id, ego, superego, the oedipal complex, and depression to show how Old King Hamlets
murder and Gertrude s marriage to Claudius causes Hamlet to eventually go mad.
Sigmund Freud coined the term Oedipal Complex to describe a phenomenon he observed where
the child has sexual feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite gender and has feelings of
hostility and jealously towards the parent of the same sex. The child feels as if they are in a

Because of this fear, the boy develops castration anxiety. Since the father is receiving the attention
of the mother, the boy then sets out to become like the father. He imitates and partakes in dad type
behaviors. This act is referred to as identification and how the boy gets over the Oedipal Complex.
This phenomenon is shown through the play Hamlet. Hamlet is extremely jealous of the attention
that his mother, Gertrude, has shown to both his father, Old King Hamlet, and his uncle and new
step father, Claudius. Hamlet says,
Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him
As if increase of appetite had grown
By what it fed on, and yet, within a month

O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason
Would have mourned longer married with my uncle (Act I, scene ii, lines 143 153)
What Hamlet is saying in modern English, is that he does not want to remember that. His mother
would hang on to him (Old King Hamlet) and the more she was with him, the more she wanted of
him. But even though she could not get enough of Old King Hamlet when he was alive, she barely
even mourned. She was almost immediately married to Claudius. This quote from Hamlet is

Economic Reforms Of Alexander Hamilton
There were many important people in America s early years after the Revolutionary War. Many
people would argue that George Washington or James Madison may be the most important person
in the 15 years following the Revolutionary War, but there is one person who often gets
overlooked. The most important person from America s beginning years as a country is Alexander
Hamilton because of his economic reforms, his compromise with James Madison and Thomas
Jefferson, and his encouragement of manufacturing. Alexander Hamilton was very influential in
America s early years. He was known for his capitalistic views for America. He wanted America to

debts than the northern states. His state assumption plan was not passed in Congress, but he did
not give up. He invited Thomas Jefferson and James Madison to dinner in New York City. He
worked to meet a compromise with them within just a night together, and he succeeded. Their
famous compromise decided that the capital would be moved from New York City to
Philadelphia, after this the new capital would be built on a federal district between Maryland and
Virginia, and Hamilton got the votes he needed for his debt assumption plan. This compromise
shows us how persuasive he is. He was also very persuasive when he tried to turn America into an

Why Do Nietzsche Use Apollinian Categories
In the book, The Birth of Tragedy, by Nietzsche, the late 19th century philosopher uses the terms
Dionysian and Apollinian to use them as the two central principles in Greek culture. Apollinian was
a term derived from the God Apollo, which related to the sun, light, and clarity, whereas Dionysian
derived from the God Dionysius, which would often be thought of as the wine God that represented
drunkenness and ecstasy. Nietzsche uses Apollinian as the basis of all analytical distinctions. For
this aspect, all elements that belong to the individuality of man are Apollinian in nature.
Furthermore, all types of structure or form fall under this category because form serves to
individualize or define that which is formed. Consequently, a sculpture... Show more content on

For example, this aspect is directly opposed to Apollinian, because just like Apollinian follows an
analytical path, Dionysian, on the other hand, is related to all things that tend to break human
character. Such as madness and drunkenness, as well as all forms of ecstasy and enthusiasm fall
under this category. This is because these aspects of life tend to make man give in to his
individuality. Consequently, it is to no surprise that the German philosopher considered music to be
one of the most Dionysian of all the arts because it appeals to the human s chaotic and instinctive
emotions, rather than his formally reasoning mind. In fact, Nietzsche mentioned, The very element
which forms the essence of Dionysian music (and hence of music in general) is carefully excluded
as un Apollinian namely, the emotional power of the tone, the uniform flow of the melody, and the
utterly incomparable world of harmony. (Nietzsche, 40) Although in essence, Nietzsche did not
generally consider music as Apollinian, interestingly enough, music was not always an element that
could be easily categorized in either Dionysian or Apollinian. Since music can be very fluid, so can
the effects that it creates on

Description Of A Mother Who Is Living Alone
For the purpose of this assignment, I propose a mother who was living alone in a small secluded
cabin in the woods. She had a 6 month old baby girl named Daphne, and two friendly, intelligent
Maine Coon cats. She breastfed the baby, and had introduced solid food by 4 months, so there
was no nutritional deprivation. She had a small garden and a couple fruit trees, but also foraged
for fruits, and ate rabbits that the cats were very good at catching. She sings to Daphne and
otherwise interacts with her playfully. Daphne had already begun to crawl and sit upright, and was
also vocalizing sounds when her mother sang. The mother disappeared one day while the baby was
left napping, she was 6 months old at the time. Severely distressed due to the sudden stop in
breastfeeding and comfort from her caregiver, Daphne cried constantly. The cats brought her soft
fruits and cuddled to comfort her, knowing her mother would not return. They nurtured her, and
helped to teach her survival methods.
In the next month Daphne learned to follow the cats out through the cat door, and began to explore
the outside world following in their footsteps. Over the course of her first year she followed them
on all fours walking and running as they did. She learned to stand by reaching the table in her
cabin following suit of the cats, and by 10 months walked as a normal human child would. Despite
having begun to vocalize human sounds, without reinforcement she did not develop human
language. She learned to

Why Is It Important For All People Learn About Language...
I believe that it is important for all people to learn another language other than their native
language. I come from a family with great pride of heritage my father s family begin German and
mother s family begin Russian I learned multiple languages growing up. Since having this
background I wanted to learn more languages and know I can speak eight languages English,
German, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Finnish, Ukrainian and French. I know learninga languageis a
long a stressful process, but it will help you in the long run in any field of study.
Learning all this has helped me throughout my life. An example of this is when I was at the
Bayshore mall with some of my friends, and a woman who was wearing a Hijab was asking us
where something was, but we really couldn t understand her so I started talking to her in Arabic
to help her out. Learning languages doesn t just help with communication, but it also helps
people see life from a different perspective and helps with understanding a culture. Most people
feel that they don t need to learn a language because we re American and we speak English, but
we are a land of mixed cultures who needs to realize that this would make us a more intellectual
country with a lot more understanding. The field of study you enter in to will more then likely to
work at an international scale or you ll work with someone with is a different nationality.
Another reason for learning a language is for when someone travels the world, but doesn t

Doctor Project Zambia the Lundazi District is split by the Luanwaga River meaning that areas
in the western part of the Lundazi District get cut off and isolated during the rainy season and
the river overflows. The people living in these areas most often suffer from Respiratory Tract
Infections, Pregnancy Complications, Tuberculosis, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.
Due to the limited amount of health care and the shortage of trained medical workers these
diseases unfortunately sometimes lead to death. Due to unnavigable roads the journey to a
clinic or hospital can often take several days by foot or bicycle even for the healthy. Early
diagnosis and consistent treatment would greatly increase the chances of recovery and with
telemedicine this is possible. Dr. Mupela defines telemedicine as the use of ICTs for the delivery

to travel between a number of different villages in four wheel drive vehicles specifically supplied
with the correct technologies for the purpose of setting up short term clinics for several days at a

Essay on Georgia OKeefe (includes annotated bibliography)
Georgia O Keefe (word count includes annotated bibliography)
Georgia O Keefe is a famous American painter who painted beautiful flowers and landscapes.
But she painted these images in such a way that many people believed she was portraying sexual
imagery. O Keefe s depictions of flowers in strict frontality and enlarged to giant scale were
entirely original in character . . . the view into the open blossoms evoked an image of the female
psyche and invited erotic associations. (Joachimides 47) O Keefe denies these allegations and says
that she magnified the scale of the flower only to ensure people would notice them. (Haskell 203)
O Keefe s artwork was misinterpreted because of cultural prejudice, her non traditional lifestyle, and

When she began creating beautiful artwork in school and was being commended by other
teachers and students, she gained an incredible sense of self worth and put her painful childhood
in the back of her mind. (19) She grew up to be a very strong, independent person and she did not
care if she was judged, as long as she liked who she was. As a result of her father leaving when
she was young, she felt that males were not good enough for her and she developed a strong
sense of feminism. In fact, for awhile, Georgia explored her sexuality and dated predominantly
women for a significant part of her life. This factor did effect her painting, but not in a sexual
way. She painted images that were close ups , allowing you to see deep into them and to be
close to them. She yearned to be close to someone but was afraid to be hurt again. Georgia s non
traditional lifestyle did affect her life, but did not force her to create sexual female images. It may
be more accurate to read her drawings as intimations of a less literal and more profound view of
reality. (Peters 29)
Georgia grew up in a time where people still had little respect for women. A woman s role was to
stay home and be a housekeeper. They had no self worth until they were married. So, when women
started to get jobs just like their husbands or lived their lives without a husband, people were

by China s 1 billion inhabitants. To offset this situation, the Chinese government has set aside 11
nature preserves where bamboo flourishes and giant pandas are known to live.
Giant pandas are being poached, because their dense fur carries a high price in illegal markets in
the Far East. The Chinese government has imposed life sentences for those convicted of poaching
giant pandas. The low reproductive capacity of the giant panda makes it more vulnerable to these
threats, and less capable of rebounding from its low numbers. In 1984, due to its decreasing
numbers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the giant panda as an endangered species under
the Endangered Species Act. This means it is considered in danger of extinction throughout all of
its range.
This protection also prohibits giant pandas from being imported into the U.S. except under certain
conditions. What you can do to help: Join WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) and help

Song Analysis Of ILl Be Missing You
I ll Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R B
group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who
many may also know him as Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G. He was gunned
down and murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff
Daddy and Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out
as a tribute to Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected. On
March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by
shooting in Los Angles. Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans.
Distraught by Wallace s death, they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to
help gain closure for their selves. Within the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly
sought after both in popular music and in a genre of its own. When Puff Daddy released the
song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The song, I ll Be Missing You , features
leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and background vocals from the famous
R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be Missing You was actually written
by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd Sauce Money Gaither. Todd
Gaither did receive a Grammy award in 1997 for his lyrics. The chorus sung

Welfare To Work Reform Essay
Societies for years have preached the theory of individual responsibility as the righteous route for
it citizens to pursuit. The worth of a society is often based on the monetary network of individuals.
Moreover, in the United States this is the norm to focus on individual responsibility. However,
every society is faced with the conflict of poverty that requires some type of social welfarepolicy.
Poverty is not a stranger to the United States and therefore it created program such as welfare to
assist the poor. The welfare system has evolved over the years sometime for the good and others
for the bad. In 1996, President Bill Clintonsigned the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity

Moreover, the states were allowed to design their own program. Some states felt that education
was a better use of fund while other concentrated on job training. The federal government set the
basic policy for the organization (welfare to work) program however, states incorporated their

program parent are provided services such as child care, food nutrition programs (Dolgoff, R.,

Services such as daycare services. When examining the source of benefits for welfare to work

receive housing such as section eight in Alabama. They are given welfare check and receive
assistance on power bills and water. In other words, they are assisted in the basic need for living.
The service is generally provided by public sector such as the federal government, which in turn is
dispersed to state government. In some state services are contracted out to private for profit

The Death Influenced Music Of The Medieval And Renaissance...
In this essay I will discuss how death influenced artists in the Medieval and Renaissance era. I
will do this by explaining the view of death and its sacraments in society. By examining events
around this period I can determine the reason behind such attitudes. I will then apply this
knowledge to four works by artists from 1400 1500. I will examine how these societal perceptions
influenced the narrative behind the work. I will conclude that the view of deathand the dying man
had a great impact on the art of these periods.
The subject of death in Medieval and Renaissance art was predominant. With the rise of the Black
Death during the fourteenth century many art works centred on hell, the dying man, and
anthropomorphising death. Instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A death which was sudden was shamed and was often interpreted as the wrath of God [2]. Death
is depicted in its traditional form as a skeleton covered by a shroud. In his hand he carries an
arrow ready to strike. Furthermore, the armoury in the foreground symbolises the fragility of
the human condition in the face of death. Armour is no longer of use; you could not fight death,
you had to accept it. Looking closely at the painting, we observe the inner battle between
religion and possession. The miser while looking directly at Death reaches for a bag of gold
which is being used by a demon to tempt him away from salvation. Infernal imps invade the
dying man s room taking his possessions; even those hidden under the bed and in his money box
[3]. Next to him, an angel is desperately trying to make the man turn his head to the figure of
Christ in the window. A ray of light from Christ symbolises the miser s possible salvation if he
turns away from the materialistic reality. The dull colour scheme is interrupted by the old man
stood at the foot of the bed. His green drapes a welcome contrast to the composition breaking up
the narrative. With a key and rosary beads hanging around his waist, does this depict continuous
narrative? Has the angel succeeded in persuading the miser to take salvation with God? We can
assume yes. During the Medieval and Renaissance period people

Alexis De Tocqueville New Imperialism
NEW Imperialism, being an important step towards bringing peace for people, can also have
disagreers. Europe has seen many transitions in its history; which means every generation had
different ideas about the type of government they would prefer. While Alexis De Tocqueville and
Rudyard Kipling wanted Europe to imperialize, Edward Morel and Aime Cesaire were against it.
Depending on the time they wrote, some of their reasonings were similar and some were totally
new. NEW Alexis De Tocqueville travelled to Algeria twice in order to understand Arab s
situations with French people. At first, he looked at Algeria as a democratic person, because he
also did research on the democracy of America. He believed that if Algerians will be placed
under French administration, they will never be able to succeed because Arabs do not create
new government, but improve the one they already have. They live in Tribal organizations,
which is very hard to break and their way of life is according to the Koran, which gives them
civil and religious laws to be successful. He thought of both sides by saying that Algerians should
have unity, so no foreign power can break in easily, and both Arabs and French will merge at
some point if they will have a same leader. He said, With time, perseverance, ability, and justice, I
have no doubt that we shall be able to raise a great monument to our country s glory on the African

Easily measured variables are height, mass, volume, circumference, etc.
Fairly easily measured variables are speed, distance, work, frequency range.
Not easily measured variables are happiness, aggressiveness, pain, physical ability, love, hunger,
frustration, and situational awareness.
Describe the process of operationalizing variables.
Factors that are subjective, effort dependent or abstract are hard to measure. First, identify the
characteristics or attributes that are needed to study and come up with a system to measure the
variable or concept. Second, determine one or more quantitative measures of the characteristic or
attribute. Will they be measured using the metric system, imperial system or English? Third,
determine the instrument for obtaining this measure. For example, the use of a ruler or tape measure
to obtain a measure of height in inches, or a scale of 1 10 to measure emotion or other abstract

Paracharacterism In The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar was composed as a semi auto biographical novel yet it dealt with many of
the contemporary issues of the time such as women emancipation in a psychological sphere.
Plath s actual psyche is reflected in her work which she struggled to continue as a female writer.
As an American writer she faced plentyof criticism which over powered her mental faculty as a
clinically depressed author. Sadly, she ended her life shortly after finishing this novel and her
prolific writing career was cut short. Plath was presented with many obstacles after her traumatic

hence stands out as a critique of the female entrapment advocated in the fifties, where combining
professions with motherhood proved difficult if not impossible. In the novel this is related to
Esther s combating choices in life: career versus motherhood, sexuality versus purity and
conventionality versus political and ideological awareness. The fig tree fable could be
interpreted as a metaphor on the bildungsroman as it represents universal choices for adolescent
characters like Esther Greenwood. Choices that Ethel Rosenberg s had were much narrower. It
can be argued that in her opinion, she only had wo role to choose from, that by nature were poles

A New Job At The Bay Harbor Yacht Club
This past summer, I landed a new job at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club. There are three restaurants
that were incorporated in the Yacht club; The Lange Center, Quarter Deck, and the Beach House.
The Beach House was where I worked at with two others. Together, we accomplished many things
for ourselves and the restaurant itself. In order to do that, we had certain unsaid rules that all three
of us abided by. At which I will bring up later on. Eventually, we became what you call an activity
system. If you do not know what an activity system is; it is groups of people doing work together,
who have common motives and processes to achieve those motives. That activity system turned us
into a well put together team just through the three months of summer. We had Karl, who was the
boss/manager of the kitchen and Josh who was the other personwho ran the kitchen with me. Josh
and I were not the ones in charge but Karl always made sure that we had say in everything that
happened because ultimately, for three people to run a kitchen, you need to all agree on something.
Between the three of us, we made that place make the most members happy, and the most money
throughout the summer for the Yacht club. Not only because of how hard we worked to make sure
people were satisfied but because of how well we communicated with each other. Communication is
key in every group to succeed in their motives, especially for this activity system.

Three Ways Police and Probation Officers can Reduce Gang...
Police and probation officers use two words to describe their jobs, to protect and to serve. Not
only do they put their lives in danger every day, but also help the community in more ways than
one. Some ways that police and probation officers can help lower gang violence is by
implementing laws more accordingly, establishing a relationship with troubled youth, and creating
programs that benefit their well being. The root of gangviolence all begins at home and then
spreads. A troubled teen may be lacking the love and attention from their parent whether it is
because they work too much, or simply do not care. Then, the teen will result attending school and
will begin to find that comfort in places that they can feel stability. According... Show more content

If parents cannot control their children then police officers will need to teach teens why
breaking the law does not have a lovely consequence. Probation officers tend to deal with the
softer side of reducing gang violence. Once a teen is arrested for having or selling drugs then
they are assigned a probation officer that will follow up on their progress and insure they are
staying out of trouble. They will do routine visits to their home, place of work, or school.
Especially for teens that are involved in gang violence this could be an important factor to
getting them to release their old ways and straighten out. If a teen is part of a gang chances are
they will be willing to take responsibility when they are caught with drugs. The purpose of the
probation officer will be educating them on why that life style could not benefit their well being in
any way. Instead, they will try to suggest distancing themselves from those so called friends that
only indulge bad behaviors. A probation officer can even suggest to the court once they report back
to the judge that the teen may need to be relocated whether it be to another school or with another
family member. This will allow positive reinforcements to surround them.
`We establish that building a good relationship with these teens is essential. According to David

Masculinity In Some Like It Hot
The Cross Dresser and Transsexual
Attitudes towards cross dressing, transvestitism and transsexuality have changed greatly since the
conformity of the 1950 s. Today, the drag queen RuPaul sells cosmetics and a female character
with a penis can become a sympathetic addition to a prime time drama such as Ally McBeal. These
transgressions from normative gender roles are frequently employed by filmmakers to examine the
complexity and fluidity of modern masculinity and femininity. The roots of these explorations can
be seen as far back as 1959 s Some Like it Hot, but only in the 1990 s were directors able to use
these sliding identities to their fullest extent. By examining Billy Wilder s, Neil Jordan s and
Kimberley Peirce s use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Chris Straayer writes, transvestitism pursued as a pleasure in and of itself is outside the
hermeneutic code of the main plot (44). This reason is given no less than life and death
significance in the narrative Joe and Jerry must escape the mob that is trying to kill them. The
only way they can do this is to join an all female band on its way to Florida thus, they must dress
up as women. The characters Dil and Brandon in The Crying Game and Boys Don t Cry,
respectively, need no such explanation for their choice of dress. In fact, their garb is represented
not as a choice, but as a need. While cross dressers, such as Joe and Jerry, exaggerate the opposite
sex s assumed gender codes to appear obviously, inadequately disguised (Straayer, 47), Dil and
Brandon are transsexuals, those who feel that the way in which they experience their gender is at
variance with their biological/anatomical sex (Young, 275). These characters identify with and
experience life as the opposite sex. Dressing like them is only one part of this. Therefore, Jordan
and Pierce waste no narrative explaining the dress of their main characters. The audience is meant
to accept Dil s skirts and Brandon s boyish hair as signs of their true identities.
To further contain the gender transgression of Joe and Jerry s appearances in Some Like it Hot,
their disguises are made completely unbelievable. Spectators are made to laugh

Functional Behavior Assessment A Behavior Intervention Plan
Introduction Under Functional Behavior Assessment a Behavior intervention plan or a BIP is a
detailed outline designed for a specific behavior that a child may be experiencing. The detailed
outlined is used to change the behavior of concern examples are off task behaviors meaning;
drawing when the child is supposed to be working on an academic task or oppositional behaviors
meaning; child often argues with adults or people in authority. There are many reasons a child
should have a BIP. One reason is to reduce problem behaviors so that a child may learn to the best
of his/her ability and another is to keep themselves and others safe in the environment that they are
in. For this behavioral assessment I have chosen scenario # 1. A third grade student in a public
elementary school has been referred for behavior problems continuously for the past three months.
This student is demonstrating consistently disruptive behaviors in this classroom and in other
settings within the school (lunch, recess, specials, etc.). Disruptive behaviors have been termed
aggressive and non compliant by school staff. Kyle entered the Vanderbilt Elementary School in
the third grade. He has had a great deal of managing and regulating his behavior, cooperating with
teachers directives, and maintaining appropriate behaviors at various locations and times of the
school day (lunch, recess, specials, etc.) for the past three months. Not only does his behavior
interfere with his own learning

Washington Irving And The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
Washington Irving was born in New York City on April 3, 1783 ( Washington Irving ). As a
teenager, he traveled through Europe for seventeen years ( Washington Irving ). The experience
gave him an appreciation for a culture deeply rooted in a rich history ( Washington Irving ). His
distinguished list of works became well known in America and in England, and his success allowed
him to be recognized as the father of American Literature ( Washington Irving). Irving was the first
American writer to establish the new American identity through his writings, as a result, he is
esteemed as one of the inventors of the short story( Washington Irving ). One of Irving s more
famous short stories, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, was published in 1820 ( Washington Irving ).
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is not merely a significant work of early American fiction, it
established the framework for a new style of American folklore in a nation that lacked the
historical richness of the European culture; a nation striving to achieve a new identity. It reveals
the struggle that emerges as the new American culture must define itself and forge a new way
forward. Irving was attempting to establish himself as a serious writer in a time when many
Americans viewed such pursuits as folly. The focus of building houses and growing crops took
precedence over the arts, including literature. The typical early American writings prior to Irving
consisted of journals recording the day to day life in the

Personal Statement On Health Assessment Essay
INTRODUCTION We had 12 modules (each with 3 MCQS) from block 1 (Health assessment). I
wil be identifying 10 concepts from them and thoroughly scrutinize how they would apply to my
personal life and other contextual settings such as social context, coupled with current related
researches on these concept. However, their applications to my current work place (Havana
specialist Hospital, Surulere, and Lagos, Nigeria) and their usefulness to the current world will also
be discussed. The concepts are as follows: Communication in Health Assessment (Module1),
Management planning in Nursing Process (Module 3), leadership and leadership style, Data
collection in health assessment , nutritional assessment, vital signs, Depression and its assessment,
substance abuse assessment and lastly assessing skin diseases: Skin cancer. 1.Communication in
health assessment According to Wikipedia, Health Assessment is a plan of care that identifies the
specific needs of a person and how those needs will be addressed by the health care system or
skilled nursing facility. It involves physical assessment, nutritional assessment, self care assessment,
mental assessment and results. Thus, all these must take place between the patient and the person
delivering the health care service. Communication is thus a serious vital tool in this field and thus
could be defined as a means by which a nurse establishes a relationship with the patient to help him
acquire health behaviours. Actually

Race Matters Essay
Jerrelle Borden Prof. Chris Gilliard WRA 125 When should we talk as if Race Matters?
Unwittingly or quite knowingly people have built systems of inequalities around race but people
have also built identity, friendships, and college mates around it. Nevertheless, several people I
recently interviewed never appeared to be certain when race was a good thing or when it was a
bad thing to talk about, which in my mind leaves us all struggling with a particularly intimidating
question: When should we talk as if race matters? The culture of the Snyder Phillips dorm, in my
observation, appears to be different where it concerns race relative to minorities. My analysis is in
comparison to the atmosphere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, I interviewed this student on November 29, 2005 at approximately 2:00 p.m., and I
inquired about any knowledge he may have about any seemingly inappropriate race issues in the
said residence hall. This student, who once resided in the Snyder Phillips dormitory, indicated
that his experiences as a resident in this hall were similar to some of the experiences I previously
listed and, more specifically, that he also, recalled several incidents where non minorities were
intimidated by the presence of African Americans and, as such, they made every effort to distant
themselves (Wilson). I also was able to have discussions with other Michigan State students on
this issue. One of the students who reside in Hubbard Hall had witness some race issues on
campus, particularly in Snyder Phillips where there are fewer minorities had said, I believe
people act differently in Snyder Phillips because of different lifestyles. Over in the area of
Snyder Phillips, there aren t as many minorities as there is in certain places on campus like
Hubbard Hall, Brody Complex, and Akers Hall. I also think that its basically two different
lifestyles (Rutledge), while the other student I interviewed was Caucasian who once lived in
Snyder Phillips had some experiences

  • 2. The Issue Of Child Onset Schizophrenia Essay SOWK 506 Fall 2015 Assignment #3: Child Onset Schizophrenia Becki Kennedy and Mary Marrone USC School of Social Work December 11, 2015 Martha Lyon Levine Introduction This research paper focuses on the issue of child onset schizophrenia, specifically looking at the prognosis, symptoms, stigma, and most effective treatment options for children. This topic has become a significant social issue as a result of the recent mass school shootings throughout the nation and the associated stigma. Severe mental illnesses, especially schizophrenia, are being severely impacted by stigma. Society today views schizophrenia as dangerous , furthering this stigma. Further, little research has been done of childhood onset schizophrenia (Hollis, 2003). However, research has shown that individuals with an earlier onset or diagnosis experience more persistent and debilitating symptoms than those with an older age of onset (Findling Schulz, 2005). Along with a higher occurrence of more severe symptoms, child onset schizophrenia is a complicated issue because children are being prescribed psychotropic medications at an early age during a period of critical brain development (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2014). This greatly affects development and exposes children to very severe side effects of the medication, resulting in a lot of patients refusing medication and the treatment they deserve. As social workers, it is important to look at different behavioral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Catalytic Decomposition Of Hydrogen Peroxide Factors affecting the catalytic decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide Please refer to the additional files for tables/graphs. Aim The purpose of this investigation is to investigate how certain factors affect the catalytic decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide. I will investigate the effect of altering the mass of catalyst used on the rate of the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide. Introduction The decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide is a process by which Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and Oxygen. It has the following equation: 2H2O2 (l) 2H2O (l) + O2 (g) This reaction does occur spontaneously at room temperature with the presence of Ultraviolet light; however only very slowly. It occurs far faster when a catalyst is used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lowers the rate of reaction due to the lower concentration (as explained in the variables section). Once a Hydrogen peroxide molecule has decomposed it is no longer a consideration and cannot decompose again as it is no longer a Hydrogen peroxide molecule. This lowers the numbers of Hydrogen peroxide molecules present lowering the concentration thus lowering the rate of reaction, eventually lowering the rate of reaction to nil where all (or virtually all) Hydrogen peroxide molecules have decomposed. At this point no more products are produced as no more Hydrogen peroxide is reacting, as no more Hydrogen peroxide is colliding with catalyst particles, because it has all decomposed. In this graph a higher concentration results in a higher rate of reaction whilst the reaction is proceeding (until the rate of reaction for all concentrations reaches 0) and a higher mass of product produced. This is because the increased chance of collisions with the catalyst, due to the increased number and density of the Hydrogen peroxide, means at the start of the reaction there are more collisions with the catalyst leading to a higher initial rate of reaction. I believe this rate of reaction will be proportional to the concentration as by increasing the concentration a certain amount you increase the number of molecules present by a proportional amount. You therefore also increase the chance of collision with the catalyst due to increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physical control is physically doing an action yourself. In nineteen eighty four orwell created a totalitarian universe with its own history and inner mechanism. George Orwells novel is focused against fascism. Psychological control is a major theme throughout 1984 and Orwell shows this theme is possible by giving examples of how a totalitarian government could gain psychological control using their power to control history and technology. Beginning at an early age, children were brainwashed and encouraged to spy on their parents by an organization called the Junior Spies. This organization destroyed family structure by having children report any instance of disloyalty to the Party. The telescrenes and children are a perfect example to how the totalitarian government abuses technology for its own purpose instead of using their knowledge to improve civilization. Just like the telescrenes, the theme of psychological control is scattered throughout Orwell s 1984. • 9. The Sociological Debate Of Nature And Upbringing The first sociological concept prepped for application to the silver screen is the debate of nature versus nurture. The phrase nature versus nurture refers to the debate concerning the origin of human behavior and whether it is determined by biology, the nature part of the equation, or upbringing, the nurture part of the equation. Biology, in this case, comes down to a person s genetic predisposition, with proponents claiming that a person is born with the behaviors they will have for the rest of their lives and nothing will change that. Nature also connects to what fetuses are exposed to in the womb, as Van Goozen et al. 1994 showed that, ...high levels of testosterone contribute to stereotypically masculine traits such as aggressiveness and competitiveness (Ferris and Stein 2016:97). Upbringing, in this case, relates to the environment someone grew up in and what they were exposed to as they started learning about the world. Evidence has been found to support either side of the debate, but no conclusive answer has been reached yet. For the most part, it is believed that both nature and nurture play a role in how our behaviors and identity develop. The second sociological concept that it up for discussion is the social conflict theory. Why Do Nietzsche Use Apollinian Categories In the book, The Birth of Tragedy, by Nietzsche, the late 19th century philosopher uses the terms Dionysian and Apollinian to use them as the two central principles in Greek culture. Apollinian was a term derived from the God Apollo, which related to the sun, light, and clarity, whereas Dionysian derived from the God Dionysius, which would often be thought of as the wine God that represented drunkenness and ecstasy. • 23. Song Analysis Of ILl Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R B group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who many may also know him as Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G. He was gunned down and murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff Daddy and Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out as a tribute to Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected. On March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by shooting in Los Angles. Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans. Distraught by Wallace s death, they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to help gain closure for their selves. Within the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly sought after both in popular music and in a genre of its own. When Puff Daddy released the song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The song, I ll Be Missing You , features leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and background vocals from the famous R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be Missing You was actually written by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd Sauce Money Gaither. • 25. The Death Influenced Music Of The Medieval And Renaissance... In this essay I will discuss how death influenced artists in the Medieval and Renaissance era. I will do this by explaining the view of death and its sacraments in society. By examining events around this period I can determine the reason behind such attitudes. I will then apply this knowledge to four works by artists from 1400 1500. I will examine how these societal perceptions influenced the narrative behind the work. I will conclude that the view of deathand the dying man had a great impact on the art of these periods. The subject of death in Medieval and Renaissance art was predominant. With the rise of the Black Death during the fourteenth century many art works centred on hell, the dying man, and anthropomorphising death. Instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A death which was sudden was shamed and was often interpreted as the wrath of God [2]. Death is depicted in its traditional form as a skeleton covered by a shroud. In his hand he carries an arrow ready to strike. Furthermore, the armoury in the foreground symbolises the fragility of the human condition in the face of death. Armour is no longer of use; you could not fight death, you had to accept it. Looking closely at the painting, we observe the inner battle between religion and possession. The miser while looking directly at Death reaches for a bag of gold which is being used by a demon to tempt him away from salvation. Infernal imps invade the dying man s room taking his possessions; even those hidden under the bed and in his money box [3]. Next to him, an angel is desperately trying to make the man turn his head to the figure of Christ in the window. A ray of light from Christ symbolises the miser s possible salvation if he turns away from the materialistic reality. The dull colour scheme is interrupted by the old man stood at the foot of the bed. His green drapes a welcome contrast to the composition breaking up the narrative. With a key and rosary beads hanging around his waist, does this depict continuous narrative? Has the angel succeeded in persuading the miser to take salvation with God? We can assume yes. Europe has seen many transitions in its history; which means every generation had different ideas about the type of government they would prefer. While Alexis De Tocqueville and Rudyard Kipling wanted Europe to imperialize, Edward Morel and Aime Cesaire were against it. Depending on the time they wrote, some of their reasonings were similar and some were totally new. NEW Alexis De Tocqueville travelled to Algeria twice in order to understand Arab s situations with French people. At first, he looked at Algeria as a democratic person, because he also did research on the democracy of America. He believed that if Algerians will be placed under French administration, they will never be able to succeed because Arabs do not create new government, but improve the one they already have. They live in Tribal organizations, which is very hard to break and their way of life is according to the Koran, which gives them civil and religious laws to be successful. He thought of both sides by saying that Algerians should have unity, so no foreign power can break in easily, and both Arabs and French will merge at some point if they will have a same leader. If parents cannot control their children then police officers will need to teach teens why breaking the law does not have a lovely consequence. Probation officers tend to deal with the softer side of reducing gang violence. Once a teen is arrested for having or selling drugs then they are assigned a probation officer that will follow up on their progress and insure they are staying out of trouble. They will do routine visits to their home, place of work, or school. Especially for teens that are involved in gang violence this could be an important factor to getting them to release their old ways and straighten out. If a teen is part of a gang chances are they will be willing to take responsibility when they are caught with drugs. The purpose of the probation officer will be educating them on why that life style could not benefit their well being in any way. Instead, they will try to suggest distancing themselves from those so called friends that only indulge bad behaviors. A probation officer can even suggest to the court once they report back to the judge that the teen may need to be relocated whether it be to another school or with another family member. The only way they can do this is to join an all female band on its way to Florida thus, they must dress up as women. The characters Dil and Brandon in The Crying Game and Boys Don t Cry, respectively, need no such explanation for their choice of dress. In fact, their garb is represented not as a choice, but as a need. While cross dressers, such as Joe and Jerry, exaggerate the opposite sex s assumed gender codes to appear obviously, inadequately disguised (Straayer, 47), Dil and Brandon are transsexuals, those who feel that the way in which they experience their gender is at variance with their biological/anatomical sex (Young, 275). These characters identify with and experience life as the opposite sex. Dressing like them is only one part of this. Therefore, Jordan and Pierce waste no narrative explaining the dress of their main characters. His distinguished list of works became well known in America and in England, and his success allowed him to be recognized as the father of American Literature ( Washington Irving). This student, who once resided in the Snyder Phillips dormitory, indicated that his experiences as a resident in this hall were similar to some of the experiences I previously listed and, more specifically, that he also, recalled several incidents where non minorities were intimidated by the presence of African Americans and, as such, they made every effort to distant themselves (Wilson). I also was able to have discussions with other Michigan State students on this issue. One of the students who reside in Hubbard Hall had witness some race issues on campus, particularly in Snyder Phillips where there are fewer minorities had said, I believe people act differently in Snyder Phillips because of different lifestyles. Over in the area of Snyder Phillips, there aren t as many minorities as there is in certain places on campus like Hubbard Hall, Brody Complex, and Akers Hall. I also think that its basically two different lifestyles (Rutledge), while the other student I interviewed was Caucasian who once lived in Snyder Phillips had some experiences ...
