Donnie Trumpet s The Social Experiment
On May 28th, shortly before midnight, a rare treasure was released to the public courtesy of Donnie
Trumpet The Social Experiment. Users of iTunes everywhere (including myself) woke up on May
29th, a Friday, to find a free download of Surf. the highly anticipated debut album of The Social
Experiment. The Social Experiment is a band that makes music that is hard to categorize. Ranging
from hip hop to Jazz, to R B, it s tricky to put a label on this band s sound other than it just feels good.
Fronted by wildly popular independent artist, Chance the Rapper, the band consists of Donnie
Trumpet doing exactly what his name hints at. Peter Cottontail, (Music Director/Keys), Greg Stix
Landfair Jr. (Drummer) and Nate Fox (Keys). Surf is consistent ... Show more content on

They could have made thousands by selling the album on iTunes, physical copies, vinyls etc. And plus
they are already fronted by a popular rapper so they wouldn t have a problem with being found. But
the answer is simple, perhaps too simple but refreshing. And that s because with Surf, they weren t
looking for money. As you may remember, Chance announced the album back late last fall and said
that it would be released before the end of 2014. Some may have been irritated at Chance for not
keeping his word, but those people are so used to rappers that are signed to labels issuing a deadline to
maximize profits. Chance The Rapper is not one of those. Chance The Rapper is a free rapper. Chance
took those 6 months to make the music that him and his friends were creating perfect. And not perfect
for a record label, perfect for themselves. Which is what every artist should be doing. The popular
song Wanna Be Cool perfectly deciphers this. It is about not wanting to be cool, but wanting to be
yourself. Which (cheesy line approaching) is the coolest fucking thing you can be. In the high school
of hip hop. There are many rappers out there that make music that isn t necessarily them. But what
will maximize profits. Do you think Big Sean wrote I Don t Fuck With You because it truly spoke

Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing
ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While
inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least
cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the
way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not important. What was
necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture break it down structurally
and quantify the observations made. The reflexive nature of his or her experiences were of little ...

(Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in
writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the
trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the
reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and
bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the
idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that
they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for
and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience.
As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic
research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a
sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t
structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive and
it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared towards
stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. While Levi Strauss may not have stated
this outright (he still had to appear

Consequences Of The European Age Of Exploration
The motives, attitudes, and consequences of the European age of exploration and conquest differed
from place to place across Europe, starting from the want for power, ending with many consequences,
both good and bad, and many mixed views and attitudes to exploration. The European age of
Exploration started for a large variety of reasons: to find a sea route to the spices of Asia, to create and
control a greater empire, to expand their knowledge of the world, to spread their religion, and to find
different precious metals and stones. A great majority of Europe was encouraged by this age and
supported the action of exploration. Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain are a great example of being
motivated by the idea of power. They wanted their country to grow and become a bigger empire,
which is supported by their promises to Christopher Columbus (Doc 1). These promises encouraged
Columbus to start exploring the world, and he eventually came across the New World. Here his
religious motivations moved him to try and convert any Indian natives to Christianity and believed
that for him to do this, he must trade with them in peace. However, this peace did not last very long
and ended in a large disagreements and hostility between the two (Doc 2). Another motivation of the
Spanish was said by Queen Isabella, before her death when she said, Our principal intention, in
soliciting from Pope Alexander VI the concession of the lands discovered and to be discovered was to
convert their peoples to our holy Catholic faith... (Doc 4). Her statement confirmed that her main
motive for exploration was to spread her Catholic faith. This motivation influenced the positive views
of the common people. They viewed the New World as a new start to their life and that it offers new
opportunities to them (Doc 3). The different motivations of exploration lead to different attitudes
towards the action, some positive, thinking that exploration was beneficial, and some negative,
thinking that the treatment of the Native Americans were too unfair. Bartolome de las Casas, an ex
conquistador, who converted to a monk, had different views of the motives of the Spanish. He viewed
Isabella and Ferdinand s motives as greedy and that the

The Director Of Human Resources Of Lehigh Hanson
I am the Director of Human Resources of Lehigh Hanson. In order to ensure the organization remains
successful we have to make sure we hire the right people for the organization. In this review we will
outline a job interview process and document the methods that we must use to select the right person
for the available positions. We will determine at least two employment laws that we must consider in
the process questions and examine the key ramifications of the organization s lack of enforcement of
said laws. The organization must predict three issues that we may encounter in building relationships
with each type of worker.
Also, management will examine two laws that must follow during the relationship process, and
specify the manner in which each law would help in the relationship building process. Finally, we will
evaluate the effectiveness of the organization s HR policies and processes that are designed to promote
a diverse workforce, we will outline a strategy for the organization that recognizes affirmative action,
and the HR team will include in our plan to migrate both the glass ceiling effect and reverse
discrimination within our organization.
Hanson is outlining the position of a Customer Service Representative. As an employer, making a
good hire depends on of having a positive interview experience with a preferred candidate. Employers
must not underestimate the impact of a well planned interview or interview process. When hiring for a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Distributed Energy
CHAPTER 2
2. DISTRIBUTED GENERATION
Distributed generation, also called on site generation, dispersed generation, embedded generation,
decentralized generation, decentralized energy or distributed energy generates electricity from many
small energy sources. Currently, industrial countries generate most of their electricity in large
centralized facilities, such as fossil fuel (coal, gas powered) nuclear or hydropower plants. These
plants have excellent economies of scale, but usually transmit electricity long distances and negatively
affect the environment.
For example, coal power plants are built away from cities to prevent their heavy air pollution from
affecting the populace. In addition, such plants are often built near collieries to minimize the cost of
transporting coal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the UK were to implement this countrywide an additional 2 4 GWe would become available.(Note
that the energy is already being generated elsewhere to provide the high initial gas pressure this
method simply distributes the energy via a different route.)Future generations of electric vehicles will
have the ability to deliver power from the battery into the grid when needed. This could also be an
important distributed generation resource.
Recently interest in Distributed Energy Systems (DES) is increasing, particularly onsite generation.
This interest is because larger power plants are economically unfeasible in many regions due to
increasing system and fuel costs, and more strict environmental regulations. In addition, recent
technological advances in small generators, Power Electronics, and energy storage devices have
provided a new opportunity for distributed energy resources at the distribution level, and especially,
the incentive laws to utilize renewable energies has also encouraged a more decentralized approach to
power

Character Changes In Celie By Alice Walker
Character Changes
Celie: Celie starts out as a scared young kid, who is abused and raped by her stepfather. She does
whatever anyone tells her and barely ever speaks up for what is right. In the beginning she feels so
alone and thinks it s better not to stand out for it will only hurt her. When Mr. ______ begins to act
violent towards her, she still acts in a passive manner. Celie gets more and more afraid until she meets
Shug. Shug is a female friend whom is much stronger than her. She learns more about a sexual
relationship, and how to be her own person. Celie learns to fight back and reinvent herself. Celie
changes her perspective on religion to. God may not be the person she always thought he was. The
letters from Nettie also change Celie, in fact now she knows she has family. She gains self worth in
the fact that her kids, and sister are fine. In the very end of the book Celie becomes a new person,
working and sewing as a job. She doesn t rely on men nor does she feel worthless.

Herzberg s Two Factor Theory
Herzberg s Two Factor Theory Melanie Bannister Abstract: This paper discusses the Herzberg theories
of motivation also known as the two factor theory, or motivator hygiene theory. Intending to discuss
how the theory was developed, how reliable it is in the work place today, and if it plays a role in the
motivation of people in the workforce. Introduction Frederick Herzberg developed his theory after
Maslow s theory of a need hierarchy. It seems parallel to Maslow s in that Herzberg s states that
individuals strive to attain higher psychological needs. Individuals seek recognition, responsibility,
and the nature of the work itself rather than take a safer more comfortable job that does nothing for
their psyche. There is a difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The job dissatisfies are the extrinsic factors such as compensation, administrative restraints, and lack
of promotion (AANP, 2009). When looking at the Herzberg s two factor theory and applying them to
the nursing home workplace there are many people that perceive the job as a paycheck, which is when
there is high hygiene and low motivation, they are more extrinsically motivated than intrinsically
motivated. I have been questioning my co workers as to why they choose to be a certified nursing
assistant; some say to help people while most say it is because of the higher rate of pay than most jobs
in the area. Even some are in school to become nurses and so working as a CNA is one way for them
to use the knowledge they are gaining on a daily basis. In the nursing home setting there are many
workers that are only there for the paycheck. These can be spotted almost immediately because they
lack the people skills to interact with the patients and they leave things undone that could be
detrimental to the patient. Working in a facility that uses extrinsic motivation most does not build
morale within employees. It has a high turnover rate, and unhappy employees. There needs to be
improvements within the facility giving long term CNA s the chance to become trainers for the new
hires that come into the facility. This would give the long term employees a feeling of responsibility

How did the Second World War Influenced the Economy of Germany?
Introduction:
As war impacts all aspects of the country involved, economy is one of the most heavily hit, as seen in
Germany through WWII. Before the Second World War Germany was deeply separated due to the
Treaty of Versailles which cut Germany s industrial west from it populous east. However Hitler
through his political acts wished to unify these halves of the same whole. As an act of unifying the
country Hitler placed the Jews and other undesirables at the center of the blame for the happening in
the German economy. Additionally, the persecution of the Jews skewed the data that is represented
today because of the alienation of the Jews as citizens they were not included in the statistics collected
at the time. Additionally, women were taken out of the data collection furthering the false validity of
the statistics presented by the Nazi Party. How did the persecution of the Jews influence the
inaccuracy of the data and statistics taken at this time? What impact did Hitler have on the German
economy? How did Hitler unifying Germany aid in its economic recovery? How did Hitler s attempt
at European domination lead to the defeat of Germany during WWII? How did the money system in
place before the end of the war compare to the money system after the war ceased?

Writing Techniques In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe
Edgar Allen Poe has written many short stories and poems, in which he displays skillful writing
techniques. Something he excels at is the expression of the themes in his works. He has a unique
writing style and often resorts to using symbols to develop deeper meanings. As a result, Poe best
executes the conveyance of his subject matter through the usage of his style of writing and symbolism.
Edgar Allen Poe s eerie writing style is a key factor in the way he conveys his themes. His writing
style is often dark and sorrowful, but can also make readers feel uneasy, which coincides perfectly
with the subject matter of his stories. For example, one of the themes in Poe s poem The Raven, is

However, readers soon feel pity for the main character, as he shows how desperate he is for the return
of his lost love, Lenore. Is there is there balm in Gilead? tell me tell me, I implore! The man begs to
know if there is any way for Lenore to return to him. However, the raven responds with nothing but
the word Nevermore, leaving the man, and the reader, feeling hopeless and unsettled. A key factor in
the way Poe communicates his themes is through the use of symbolism. Namely, his story The
Masque of the Red Death is a prime example of this. The theme of this short story is death
inescapable, regardless of one s wealth. The story is set in a time where a plague is striking many
people and Prince Prospero, representing riches and prosperity, believes he and his friends can escape
this plague using his money. There are many rooms in this retreat, most of which are painted a color
representative of a positive aspect of life. However, there is one room in which there flows a ruddier
light through the blood colored panes; and the blackness of the sable drapery appals; ...there comes
from the near clock of ebony a muffled peal more solemnly emphatic than any which reaches their
ears who indulge in the more remote gaieties of the other apartments. (1) In this room, the red window
panes allude to blood, the black curtains equate to death, and the ebony clock is symbolic

Mother Teresa
For generations, people around the world of all various social classes have lived very differently.
People are wealthy and have things given to them, or poor and working hard for basic needs. Some
were unlucky and born with defects that would affect them their whole lives. Others were blessed to
live a healthy life. There are very few people around the around the world that would take time from
their life to help people consistently. However, Mother Teresa was a hero because she was one
extraordinary woman who devoted her life to help all kinds of people around the world.
Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, also known as Mother Teresa, was born in Skopje, the current capital of the
Republic of Macedonia, on August 26th 1910. She came from a wealthy family and was the youngest
of three. Her father passed away when she was eight years old and was raised by her widowed mother.
She practiced Roman Catholicism and was an illustrious member in her church s youth group. Shortly
after, Agnes was responsive in Missionaries work. In 1928, at eighteen years old, Agnes got her first
call from God to aid the people of Ireland (Balado 6). She didn t have a mentor to look up to, and it is
considered that God was the person she cherished and looked up to. In Dublin, she decided

The life of aviation is an admiration for whoever looks up to the clouds, stars, and the sky. Aviation is
a dream that many people seek. I have always looked up to my father as a model and a reason to think
about the life above the clouds. As I laid eyes on him wearing his flying suit, it opened my eyes to the
aviation life, and an inspiration to enter the world of aviation. The transition of me entering this life
was a video that ERAU broadcasted. This ad shows the quality of tools and level of education students

tool that facilitated and allowed people to attempt to convey more meaning through words, first oral
and then written in some languages. Since language first came into being, it has been one of the most
important tools employed by humans to communicate with each other. Imagine what life would be
like if we did not have language as an instrument to interact with each other. Further, language is often
considered to be an integral part of culture; and most humans are well aware of the importance of
language in society; however, can language be consumed to deliver the transparency of thoughts and

Furthermore, every individual has had their moments where they had been deceptive or ambiguous.
Lying is a miserable action that we as human beings tend to make. The truth is the one that leads us in
the right road; however, we have to admit that nowadays we tell white lies to each other almost every
day. No matter if we want to leave the impression of being more sensitive about someone s feelings,
or to show more respect to one another.
Further, highlighting positive elements and concealing negative ones is another form of doublespeak,
as can be seen in the use of jargon. As William Lutz explains: Jargon as doublespeak often makes the
simple appear complex, the ordinary profound, and the obvious insightful. In this sense it is not used
to express but to impress (3). That is, instead of delivering a simple answer, instead, a rather complex
or probably not comprehended one is offered. For example, car dealers use a tricky language of
doublespeak such as, base price, add on interest, blue book, dealer incentives, rule of 78s, and so forth.
Indeed, the car dealer understands what he/she meant, but not necessarily the customer who may have
a limited expense with vehicles. To continue with, jargon also involves the language of

Osteoporosis Case Study Summary
Case Study Summary:
Louise a 55 year old woman who cares for her 15 year old granddaughter Marissa, just found out that
she has been diagnosed with osteoporosis after visiting the doctor for long lasting hip and wrist pain.
Louise is a small framed, underweight woman and has recently had a significant amount of bone loss
which caused her to loss a half of an inch in height in the last year. Her lifestyle consists of junk food,
lots of soda, no exercise and she recently quit smoking a pack a day of cigarettes a year ago and she
occasionally has a drink of alcohol.
Louise s granddaughter Marissa is worried and she wonders if she has the possibility of developing
osteoporosis herself and if there are ways to prevent the disease.
Background of Case Study Disease: When the reduction in bone mass is sufficient to compromise
normal function, the condition is known as Osteoporosis. The brittle bones that result are likely to
break when exposed to stresses that younger individuals could easily tolerate. Any fractures in aged
individuals lead to loss of independence and immobility that future weakens the skeleton. Once the
bones have weakened some symptoms may consist of back pain, caused by a fractured or collapsed
vertebra, loss of height, a stooped posture (kyphosis) and bone fractures can occur more easily. There
are two types of Osteoporosis; controllable and uncontrollable. Some unchangeable risks may include
family history, age, race, sex and frame size. Life style

Computerized Technology Influenced The Stage And Lighting...
Question: To what extent has the advancement of computerized technology influenced the stage and
lighting design of theatre Introduction: Theatre has come a long way from when it first started with
regard to the set designs of the plays and musicals. When the sets were first designed the props would
either stay on the stage as a permanent structure the whole time or you needed to have the stage crew
come out and move the props and scenery. Now with the advancement of technology you can program
a computer to move the objects and scenery on the stage instead of having people move each of the
objects. This helps to give the plays more of a realist feeling because the play feels like it flows like
life does without the interruption of people coming out to change the stage or having to use ropes to
move the set. Two men that have lived through and worked as the times are changing are Bob
Crowley and Tony Walton. These two men are both current set designers and they have both lived
through the transition from having people move the set to now having it controlled by computers.
Both of these men have designed numerous shows and have won countless awards for their
outstanding work at designing the set for every play they do. Background information: Bob crowley
was Born in Cork, Ireland. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He has designed over 20
productions for the National Theatre. He has also designed numerous productions for the Royal

Percy s Essay A River Pilot Looks At The Mississippi
Walker Percy s The Loss of a Creature details his idea of what he calls the preformed complex: biases
that people form as a result of experiences created by experts. Experiences such as a tour of the Grand
Canyon, reading a sonnet in a college poetry class, or the dissection of a dogfish in biology class are
all packaged and shaped by experts, according to Percy. Experts do this for sightseers so that they can
better understand experiences the way experts want them to. In Mark Twain s essay A River Pilot
Looks at the Mississippi he examines the perception of the Mississippi from the perspective of the
passengers of the steamboat and the pilots of them. Percy s experts and sightseers seem to be very
similar to Twain s pilots and passengers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Percy, sightseers aim to compare real life experiences with other s experiences that have
influenced their preformed complex. Percy claims that when a sightseer says Why it is every bit as
beautiful as a picture postcard! He feels he has not been cheated (Percy, 47). The sightseers aim to
receive some sort of confirmation that they were not cheated by the experience. The pilots on the river
have a preformed complex about what the significance of each element of the river should be which
causes them to lose sight of the beauty the elements hold. River pilots could feel cheated by the river
if it did not provide any indication of what the conditions were as then the river did not fulfill its duty
to the river pilots. The nature of this relationship is very transactional for both the pilots and the
sightseers: they look for it to be worth some sort of currency and in their case the currency is time.

The Truth And Reconciliation Commission ( Trc )
Introduction
Between the years of 1870 and 1996, more than 150,000 indigenous children were forcibly removed
from their communities, and sent to Indian residential schools. Generation after generation of
indigenous children were denied the right to speak their own language, explore spirituality and to
learn about their rich cultural history. These schools were designed to assimilate indigenous children
into the society of the European settlers. It was under that system that Aboriginal children were
required to attend schools that would take the Indian out of the child, in hopes to solve the Indian
problem .
On June 2nd, 2008, nearly 20 years after the last residential school closed, The Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed in response to the legacy left behind by the Indian
residential school system. The TRC is not a government appointed commission that was created to
negotiate legal counsel for surviving students, involved churches, the Assembly of First Nations, as
well as the Canadian government. However, the main objective was to allow victims of the schools to
be acknowledge, have their stories shared, and be accepted.
Residential School History
Assimilation was the goal of European settlers, even before confederation in 1867. In 1857, the
Gradual Civilization Act was passed by the Legislature of the Province of Canada with the aim of
assimilating First Nations people. Through out Canadian history, non aboriginals have gained control

Bms 191011 Case Study
BMS 191011 is a maxi K channel opener [1]. Maxi K channels consist of a pore forming α subunit
and a regulatory β subunit. Maxi K channels are of a high Ca2+ sensitivity [2]. Bath application of
BMS 191011 at a concentration of 20 μM strongly reduced the calcium transients. This effect was
associated with bursts of bAPs (100 Hz) recorded from Fmr1−/y dendrites without affecting those
recorded from wild type dendrites. This treatment decreased dendritic calcium transients of Fmr1−/y
neurons to baseline levels of wild type neurons [3]. In normoxia, BMS 191011 significantly induced
cell death. This effect was indicted by the increases in propidium iodide (PI) uptake by 9.4 ± 2.4 and
16.8 ± 2.1% at 12 and 24 h treatments, respectively. At 12 h and then 24 h, the cellular [ATP] was
decreased to 83.4 ± 3.1 and further to 72.3 ± 2.8%. During hypoxia, these effects were increased by ~2
fold in all time points and measurements. PI uptake was increased to 15.1 ± 1.8 at 12 h and then 40.7
± 1.7% at 24 h. Cellular [ATP] was decreased to 77.8 ± 1.9 at 12 h and then to 43.3 ± 3.4% at 24 h [4].

The Energy Of Energy Usage
Introduction
Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high end consumer in
terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation
columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in
chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing
distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess
more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption.
The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges
are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on

[3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column
configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment
quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping,
electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two column
system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled
columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of
providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of
conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the
columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8].
Self Heat Recuperation Technology
In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the
azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an
ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of
standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of
recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self heat recuperation technology utilizes not only
latent heat but also the sensible

Short Speech On Tiaras
Almost every princess, both in fairy tales or in real life, they re always identified by their crowns and
tiaras. Although, it is no longer common for the royals to wear their crowns everywhere they go, so
here are some of this generations princess wedding tiaras.
CATHERINE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE
She is considered to be a real life Cinderella when she married the prince of Great Britain, Prince
William. However, she didn t really have a rough life unlike Cinderella but despite the fact that she
belonged to a upper middle class family, she is still a commoner. She met the prince at the University
of St. Andrews when they were still studying there in 2001. They got married in April of 2011 and

Last but not the least is the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. She is actually the oldest child of
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia which makes her Princess of Sweden as birth and is the first
in line of succession.
In 2010, she got married with Daniel Westling in Stockholm Cathedral. They now have two children,
Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
Being the only royal born princess on this list, a Princess Victoria has the widest collection of tiaras
among them. The very first crown she wore was when she turned 18 and her parents gave her a
sapphire and diamond crown, which she last wore in 2007. The next one is the Diamond Bandeau that
looks like an extremely fancy headband. And then there s the Queen Josephine s Amethyst Tiara
which was actually turned into a necklace. Princess Victoria s signature crown is the Baden Fringe
Tiara that many royal ladies have worn. And finally, the Cameo Tiara, which she wore on her wedding

The Media And Its Impact On The Economy And Society Operates
Journalism is a form of writing that informs public about things that already happened in our life. It is
a practice of examining and reporting issues, events and trends to the media such as print and
broadcast media. It is not only presenting the news of the day of a city or a country, but telling
meaningful stories about what is new or is happening around us, understanding it and explaining it to
others (Michael et al., 2012). The people who write journalism, gather news and information for mass
distribution are called journalists. They usually work at newspaper, magazines, TV or radio station or

The Views of the Politician George Washington Plunkitt
George Washington Plunkitt was a complicated politician from New York in the 1900 s. He had his
own questionable way of seeing what s right and what s wrong. Plunkitt s Ideas of right a wrong
sometimes seemed to be off. However, some of his ideas about things that needed to be reformed were
as true then as they are now. Plunkitt seemed to be a man that knew how to get what he wanted out of
people with very little effort. From the perspective of an outsider this could make him hard to trust,
but to people then this wasn t a problem. One thing that made his intentions unclear is how he talks
about honest graft and dishonest graft. Plunkitt describes honest graft when he says; Ain t it perfectly
honest to charge a good price and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He makes it clear that the distinction between honest graft and dishonest graft is very slight; and that
most of the time people can t tell the difference between the two. Another of Plunkitt s views that
leaves a bit of a cloudy feeling is his view of looters and practical politicians. He explains the
difference using Tammany Hall and the Philadelphia republicans as the examples. He says The
Philadelphians ain t satisfied with robbin the bank of all its gold and paper money. They stay to pick
up the nickels arid pennies and the cop comes arid nabs them. (29) He makes it as clear as possible
that a practical politician only takes just enough and that a looter takes more than his fair share. The
explanation of this goes along with that of graft, it seems that he is trying to convince himself that he
is honest and not doing any wrong. Not all of what Plunkitt did was that bad, though. Throughout the
book he talks of reforming the civil service, it seems as though he is very passionate about this.
Plunkitt tells stories of how good patriots go to the civil service office to take the test, fail, then come
out and have lost all their patriotism. Plunkitt tells how he has never been for nonpartisan business but
this is the exception. (39) He wants the party leaders to put their differences aside and unite against the
common enemy. The best way he makes his argument for this is when he tells the story of Flaherty.
Flaherty was a man that

The And Their Implementation Of Today s Contemporary,...
Hadith, in its religious use is often translated as tradition , meaning a report of the teachings, deeds
and sayings of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The hadith literature was compiled from oral reports
that were present in society at the time of their compilation, well after the death of Muhammad. The
collection of Ahadith (plural of Hadith) are considered by most religious scholars to be a reliable
source of Islam, just behind the Quran which they consider to be the word of God. This essay will be
focusing on Ahadith and their implementation in today s Contemporary, 21st Century period. In
particular, this composition will discuss the rulings and interpretation of Ahadith in regards to
Homosexuality and the Hijab.
Homosexuality is when an individual is sexually attracted to a person of the same sex. Although the
majority of West has gradually come to accept this practice, it is widely criticized and condemned by
the mainstream of today s Muslims, even those living in the West. Although Muslim scholars have had
strict viewpoints in regards to sexual diversity throughout the history of the faith, global modern ethics
are challenging them to step up. It is very important to clarify that the scholars themselves who read
and interpret these hadith are clouded by their own cultural background. A hadith in regards to this
topic, reported by Anas bin Malik reads: A man was with the Prophet and when another man passed
by, the former said, O Messenger of God! I love this man.

text says, nevertheless, he managed to release the swan from the thorns. This quote explains how Mr.

The theme of sacrifice is made clear when Leita, Mr. Peters wife, decides to stay with Mr. Peters and

Masculine Ideas Of Power In The Bostonians And King...
Masculine ideas of power vary between characters and how they treat those around them. Power usage
in this sense is exercised in Henry James s The Bostonians and Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in
King Arthur s Court. The two main male characters in these novels both have a need to control others.
From the time periods they are set and live in, men were in charge of most things, so this is seen many
times. Comparing James s and Twain s ideas of this, though, are shown most in Basil Ransom and
Hank Morgan. Basil, reigning from the Confederate South, has the urge to have power of Verena and
what she does with her own life. Hank uses his power skills to control an entire community of people
in a period of time that is not his own. Both men see themselves as Gods , in a sense, over others from
their beliefs in their own power from their uses of their voices, opinions, and appearances. Power has
many definitions and a very long etymological history. However, the most common is listed in the
Oxford English Dictionary as the, Capacity to direct or influence the behavior of others; personal or
social influence, (Power, n.1 ). Power defines literary characters, movements, real people, and more.
Masculinity is also prevalent when looking at power. The Oxford English Dictionary also has
masculinity listed as meaning, The state or fact of being masculine; the assemblage of qualities
regarded as characteristic of men; maleness, manliness, (Masculinity, n ). Power and

of the sea and sand. The meeting between two worlds, which also serves the theme of the poem.
Thomas suggests that the reality that any one of us find ourselves in, actually becomes our truth. But
there is also always a choice, good and bad in everything. This is a very thought provoking and
profound poem. This one especially allows the reader to draw his or her own conclusion. The Polar
Express conveys a picture of innocence and truth; it correlates to The side of Truth because of the
meeting between two worlds . Each end comes a fresh start and every good thing in life; a fresher,

Atomic Age Pros And Cons
When the words nuclear chemistry come to mind, many mixed emotions surface. On one side, a
picture of devastated cities that were flattened by a bomb capable of freezing the shadows of people
on the streets comes to mind. And the other picture: harnessing exponential amounts of energy, saving
lives, and defeating cancer once and for all. No matter what stance is taken, the Atomic Age has both
turned people against each other, but also has provided grounds for defeating a disease that hits each
and every one of us at home, and that disease is cancer. When weighing the pros and cons of the
Atomic Age, the pros clearly outweigh the cons. This era has brought upon clean, reusable energy,
medical advancements beyond our dreams, and a better understanding of invisible radiation. One of
the greatest proponents of the Atomic Age is the aspect of clean, reusable energy. This method of
obtaining energy was long sought after, and lead to many failures. Prior to this era, cities and other
societies relied strictly on coal, hydroelectric, and natural gases and oils. These all had their faults, or
were negative in many ways. For example, the amount of coal that was being burnt was leading our
supply to last for about another hundred years. As the years progressed and atomic science was being
diversified, the world s reliance on coal was lessening. One of the first major breakthroughs with
nuclear chemistry was the triggering of Uranium 235 to split its nucleus, releasing energy beyond

Thousand Splendid Suns
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a fifty one chapter fictional writing by Khaled Hosseini. It tells the story
of two women who live in Afghanistan, and their lives with an abusive husband. The author uses a
diversity of techniques such as foreshadowing and multiple plots. A great example of the use of such
techniques is when, in chapter 5, Nana says to Mariam Don t leave me, Mariam jo. Please stay. I ll die
if you go. , foreshadowing her own suicide. The novel starts with the story of two completely
unrelated women, Mariam and Laila, whose connection to each other will only come up later in the
book. This is means the book has multiple plots. The author wrote the novel in the third person

women have become, when the narrator says, ...she was leaving the world as a woman who had loved

How to Be Successful at Composting Essay example
How to Be Successful at Composting
As an avid gardener and as someone who is conscientious of my environment, I purchased a compost
bin several years ago. I have an abundance of yard and lawn clippings that I am not willing to dump
into our already stressed landfills. In turn, my efforts for composting benefit me greatly because I can
use this finished material to improve my soil texture, the soil s ability to hold water, and as a fertilizer.
Composting is a biological process for converting organic solid wastes into a stable humus like
product. Within a compost pile, microorganisms attack organic substance, breaking it down and
producing rich organic matter (Golueke,13). For this to occur, several things need to take place, two of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be done a number of ways. Most county agriculture departments will supply you with a soil
test kit or with a phone number to obtain a kit. There is also pH paper on the market along with a more
elaborate method known as compost extraction (Trautman).
When taking a measurement of the pH, it is important that several readings are taken because your
compost is unlikely to be homogenous. It may contain anything from sawdust and grass, to lettuce and
coffee grounds. If your pH reading is between 6 and 7.5, most plants will do well in this type of soil. If
the pH is 6 or below, the soil is probably too acidic and you will need to add lime to the compost, such
as ground chalk or a limey clay (Sines,27). This solution can be said to contain more H+ ions than OH
#8209; ions. Many plants such as azaleas, hydrangeas and blueberries love this type of soil. If the soil
has a pH above 6, it is too alkaline and contains more OH #8209; ions than H+ ions. You will need to
add brown material such as pine needles or sawdust to counter act this condition (Golueke,83).
Carbon and Nitrogen (C/N) ratio is also an important element in composting. The ratio is used to give
an indication of the speed at which organic residues in the soil are likely to be decomposing. Carbon
can be considered the food, providing an energy source and a cellular building block. Some sources of
carbon are leaves, cornstalks and twigs. Nitrogen can be considered

Humor And How Does It Affect Brand Imaging, Interpersonal...
Section One:
Humor is an interesting and diverse topic, especially when applied to the subject of persuasion. How it
affects brand imaging, interpersonal communication, and overall perceptions of persuaders. Humor is
unique in the sense that it is highly subjective. This subjectivity makes it a very tricky tactic to use in
either advertisements or interpersonal persuasion. Humor has a very fluid definition that can vary by
culture, gender, age, and religion. This essay will look into the history of humor in human culture,
what the psychological effects of humor are on people, how advertisers use these psychological effects
to influence consumers and create positive brand image. It will also discuss the proper use of humor
and important factors to take into consideration. Finally the use of humor in interpersonal persuasion
as well as how humor factors into creating a charismatic image of a presenter.
While there is a limited number of resources that have done extensive studies on the topic of humor in
persuasion there was a large push for this information in the late 80 s and early 90 s. Part of the
difficulty with getting scientific data on the subject of humor is due to the subjectivity of humor. It is
difficult to perform a test with experimentation that will be considered humorous by all of the

  • 2. Donnie Trumpet s The Social Experiment On May 28th, shortly before midnight, a rare treasure was released to the public courtesy of Donnie Trumpet The Social Experiment. Users of iTunes everywhere (including myself) woke up on May 29th, a Friday, to find a free download of Surf. the highly anticipated debut album of The Social Experiment. The Social Experiment is a band that makes music that is hard to categorize. Ranging from hip hop to Jazz, to R B, it s tricky to put a label on this band s sound other than it just feels good. Fronted by wildly popular independent artist, Chance the Rapper, the band consists of Donnie Trumpet doing exactly what his name hints at. Peter Cottontail, (Music Director/Keys), Greg Stix Landfair Jr. (Drummer) and Nate Fox (Keys). Surf is consistent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They could have made thousands by selling the album on iTunes, physical copies, vinyls etc. And plus they are already fronted by a popular rapper so they wouldn t have a problem with being found. But the answer is simple, perhaps too simple but refreshing. And that s because with Surf, they weren t looking for money. As you may remember, Chance announced the album back late last fall and said that it would be released before the end of 2014. Some may have been irritated at Chance for not keeping his word, but those people are so used to rappers that are signed to labels issuing a deadline to maximize profits. Chance The Rapper is not one of those. Chance The Rapper is a free rapper. Chance took those 6 months to make the music that him and his friends were creating perfect. And not perfect for a record label, perfect for themselves. Which is what every artist should be doing. The popular song Wanna Be Cool perfectly deciphers this. It is about not wanting to be cool, but wanting to be yourself. Which (cheesy line approaching) is the coolest fucking thing you can be. In the high school of hip hop. There are many rappers out there that make music that isn t necessarily them. But what will maximize profits. Do you think Big Sean wrote I Don t Fuck With You because it truly spoke from his heart? Fuck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not important. What was necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture break it down structurally and quantify the observations made. The reflexive nature of his or her experiences were of little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience. As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive and it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared towards stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. While Levi Strauss may not have stated this outright (he still had to appear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Consequences Of The European Age Of Exploration The motives, attitudes, and consequences of the European age of exploration and conquest differed from place to place across Europe, starting from the want for power, ending with many consequences, both good and bad, and many mixed views and attitudes to exploration. The European age of Exploration started for a large variety of reasons: to find a sea route to the spices of Asia, to create and control a greater empire, to expand their knowledge of the world, to spread their religion, and to find different precious metals and stones. A great majority of Europe was encouraged by this age and supported the action of exploration. Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain are a great example of being motivated by the idea of power. They wanted their country to grow and become a bigger empire, which is supported by their promises to Christopher Columbus (Doc 1). These promises encouraged Columbus to start exploring the world, and he eventually came across the New World. Here his religious motivations moved him to try and convert any Indian natives to Christianity and believed that for him to do this, he must trade with them in peace. However, this peace did not last very long and ended in a large disagreements and hostility between the two (Doc 2). Another motivation of the Spanish was said by Queen Isabella, before her death when she said, Our principal intention, in soliciting from Pope Alexander VI the concession of the lands discovered and to be discovered was to convert their peoples to our holy Catholic faith... (Doc 4). Her statement confirmed that her main motive for exploration was to spread her Catholic faith. This motivation influenced the positive views of the common people. They viewed the New World as a new start to their life and that it offers new opportunities to them (Doc 3). The different motivations of exploration lead to different attitudes towards the action, some positive, thinking that exploration was beneficial, and some negative, thinking that the treatment of the Native Americans were too unfair. Bartolome de las Casas, an ex conquistador, who converted to a monk, had different views of the motives of the Spanish. He viewed Isabella and Ferdinand s motives as greedy and that the ... In this review we will outline a job interview process and document the methods that we must use to select the right person for the available positions. We will determine at least two employment laws that we must consider in the process questions and examine the key ramifications of the organization s lack of enforcement of said laws. The organization must predict three issues that we may encounter in building relationships with each type of worker. Also, management will examine two laws that must follow during the relationship process, and specify the manner in which each law would help in the relationship building process. Finally, we will evaluate the effectiveness of the organization s HR policies and processes that are designed to promote a diverse workforce, we will outline a strategy for the organization that recognizes affirmative action, and the HR team will include in our plan to migrate both the glass ceiling effect and reverse discrimination within our organization. • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Distributed Energy CHAPTER 2 2. DISTRIBUTED GENERATION Distributed generation, also called on site generation, dispersed generation, embedded generation, decentralized generation, decentralized energy or distributed energy generates electricity from many small energy sources. Currently, industrial countries generate most of their electricity in large centralized facilities, such as fossil fuel (coal, gas powered) nuclear or hydropower plants. These plants have excellent economies of scale, but usually transmit electricity long distances and negatively affect the environment. For example, coal power plants are built away from cities to prevent their heavy air pollution from affecting the populace. In addition, such plants are often built near collieries to minimize the cost of transporting coal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could also be an important distributed generation resource. Recently interest in Distributed Energy Systems (DES) is increasing, particularly onsite generation. This interest is because larger power plants are economically unfeasible in many regions due to increasing system and fuel costs, and more strict environmental regulations. In addition, recent technological advances in small generators, Power Electronics, and energy storage devices have provided a new opportunity for distributed energy resources at the distribution level, and especially, the incentive laws to utilize renewable energies has also encouraged a more decentralized approach to power ... Intending to discuss how the theory was developed, how reliable it is in the work place today, and if it plays a role in the motivation of people in the workforce. Introduction Frederick Herzberg developed his theory after Maslow s theory of a need hierarchy. It seems parallel to Maslow s in that Herzberg s states that individuals strive to attain higher psychological needs. When looking at the Herzberg s two factor theory and applying them to the nursing home workplace there are many people that perceive the job as a paycheck, which is when there is high hygiene and low motivation, they are more extrinsically motivated than intrinsically motivated. I have been questioning my co workers as to why they choose to be a certified nursing assistant; some say to help people while most say it is because of the higher rate of pay than most jobs in the area. Even some are in school to become nurses and so working as a CNA is one way for them to use the knowledge they are gaining on a daily basis. In the nursing home setting there are many workers that are only there for the paycheck. These can be spotted almost immediately because they lack the people skills to interact with the patients and they leave things undone that could be detrimental to the patient. Working in a facility that uses extrinsic motivation most does not build morale within employees. It has a high turnover rate, and unhappy employees. There needs to be improvements within the facility giving long term CNA s the chance to become trainers for the new hires that come into the facility. This would give the long term employees a feeling of responsibility and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Something he excels at is the expression of the themes in his works. He has a unique writing style and often resorts to using symbols to develop deeper meanings. As a result, Poe best executes the conveyance of his subject matter through the usage of his style of writing and symbolism. Edgar Allen Poe s eerie writing style is a key factor in the way he conveys his themes. • 17. Computerized Technology Influenced The Stage And Lighting... Question: To what extent has the advancement of computerized technology influenced the stage and lighting design of theatre Introduction: Theatre has come a long way from when it first started with regard to the set designs of the plays and musicals. When the sets were first designed the props would either stay on the stage as a permanent structure the whole time or you needed to have the stage crew come out and move the props and scenery. Now with the advancement of technology you can program a computer to move the objects and scenery on the stage instead of having people move each of the objects. This helps to give the plays more of a realist feeling because the play feels like it flows like life does without the interruption of people coming out to change the stage or having to use ropes to move the set. Two men that have lived through and worked as the times are changing are Bob Crowley and Tony Walton. These two men are both current set designers and they have both lived through the transition from having people move the set to now having it controlled by computers. Both of these men have designed numerous shows and have won countless awards for their outstanding work at designing the set for every play they do. Percy claims that when a sightseer says Why it is every bit as beautiful as a picture postcard! He feels he has not been cheated (Percy, 47). The sightseers aim to receive some sort of confirmation that they were not cheated by the experience. The pilots on the river have a preformed complex about what the significance of each element of the river should be which causes them to lose sight of the beauty the elements hold. River pilots could feel cheated by the river if it did not provide any indication of what the conditions were as then the river did not fulfill its duty to the river pilots. The nature of this relationship is very transactional for both the pilots and the sightseers: they look for it to be worth some sort of currency and in their case the currency is time. • 19. The Truth And Reconciliation Commission ( Trc ) Introduction Between the years of 1870 and 1996, more than 150,000 indigenous children were forcibly removed from their communities, and sent to Indian residential schools. Generation after generation of indigenous children were denied the right to speak their own language, explore spirituality and to learn about their rich cultural history. These schools were designed to assimilate indigenous children into the society of the European settlers. It was under that system that Aboriginal children were required to attend schools that would take the Indian out of the child, in hopes to solve the Indian problem . On June 2nd, 2008, nearly 20 years after the last residential school closed, The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed in response to the legacy left behind by the Indian residential school system. The TRC is not a government appointed commission that was created to negotiate legal counsel for surviving students, involved churches, the Assembly of First Nations, as well as the Canadian government. However, the main objective was to allow victims of the schools to be acknowledge, have their stories shared, and be accepted. Maxi K channels are of a high Ca2+ sensitivity [2]. Bath application of BMS 191011 at a concentration of 20 μM strongly reduced the calcium transients. This effect was associated with bursts of bAPs (100 Hz) recorded from Fmr1−/y dendrites without affecting those recorded from wild type dendrites. This treatment decreased dendritic calcium transients of Fmr1−/y neurons to baseline levels of wild type neurons [3]. In normoxia, BMS 191011 significantly induced cell death. This effect was indicted by the increases in propidium iodide (PI) uptake by 9.4 ± 2.4 and 16.8 ± 2.1% at 12 and 24 h treatments, respectively. At 12 h and then 24 h, the cellular [ATP] was decreased to 83.4 ± 3.1 and further to 72.3 ± 2.8%. During hypoxia, these effects were increased by ~2 fold in all time points and measurements. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption. The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping, electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8]. Self Heat Recuperation Technology In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of recycled energy. As quoted by Salter and Jones, the Internet has all too often been regarded as an economic opportunity more than an opportunity to change and improve journalistic practice. This example I have chosen for this essay will attempt to critically analyze this quote; whether the Internet is mostly developed for economic opportunity or for the advancement of journalistic practice. • 24. The Views of the Politician George Washington Plunkitt George Washington Plunkitt was a complicated politician from New York in the 1900 s. He had his own questionable way of seeing what s right and what s wrong. Plunkitt s Ideas of right a wrong sometimes seemed to be off. However, some of his ideas about things that needed to be reformed were as true then as they are now. Plunkitt seemed to be a man that knew how to get what he wanted out of people with very little effort. From the perspective of an outsider this could make him hard to trust, but to people then this wasn t a problem. One thing that made his intentions unclear is how he talks about honest graft and dishonest graft. He makes it clear that the distinction between honest graft and dishonest graft is very slight; and that most of the time people can t tell the difference between the two. Another of Plunkitt s views that leaves a bit of a cloudy feeling is his view of looters and practical politicians. He explains the difference using Tammany Hall and the Philadelphia republicans as the examples. He says The Philadelphians ain t satisfied with robbin the bank of all its gold and paper money. They stay to pick up the nickels arid pennies and the cop comes arid nabs them. (29) He makes it as clear as possible that a practical politician only takes just enough and that a looter takes more than his fair share. The explanation of this goes along with that of graft, it seems that he is trying to convince himself that he is honest and not doing any wrong. Not all of what Plunkitt did was that bad, though. Throughout the book he talks of reforming the civil service, it seems as though he is very passionate about this. Plunkitt tells stories of how good patriots go to the civil service office to take the test, fail, then come out and have lost all their patriotism. Plunkitt tells how he has never been for nonpartisan business but this is the exception. (39) He wants the party leaders to put their differences aside and unite against the common enemy. The best way he makes his argument for this is when he tells the story of Flaherty. Flaherty was a man that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The And Their Implementation Of Today s Contemporary,... Hadith, in its religious use is often translated as tradition , meaning a report of the teachings, deeds and sayings of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The hadith literature was compiled from oral reports that were present in society at the time of their compilation, well after the death of Muhammad. The collection of Ahadith (plural of Hadith) are considered by most religious scholars to be a reliable source of Islam, just behind the Quran which they consider to be the word of God. This essay will be focusing on Ahadith and their implementation in today s Contemporary, 21st Century period. In particular, this composition will discuss the rulings and interpretation of Ahadith in regards to Homosexuality and the Hijab. Homosexuality is when an individual is sexually attracted to a person of the same sex. Although the majority of West has gradually come to accept this practice, it is widely criticized and condemned by the mainstream of today s Muslims, even those living in the West. Although Muslim scholars have had strict viewpoints in regards to sexual diversity throughout the history of the faith, global modern ethics are challenging them to step up. It is very important to clarify that the scholars themselves who read and interpret these hadith are clouded by their own cultural background. A hadith in regards to this topic, reported by Anas bin Malik reads: A man was with the Prophet and when another man passed by, the former said, O Messenger of God! I love this man. ... • 28. Masculine Ideas Of Power In The Bostonians And King... Masculine ideas of power vary between characters and how they treat those around them. Power usage in this sense is exercised in Henry James s The Bostonians and Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court. The two main male characters in these novels both have a need to control others. From the time periods they are set and live in, men were in charge of most things, so this is seen many times. Comparing James s and Twain s ideas of this, though, are shown most in Basil Ransom and Hank Morgan. Basil, reigning from the Confederate South, has the urge to have power of Verena and what she does with her own life. Hank uses his power skills to control an entire community of people in a period of time that is not his own. Both men see themselves as Gods , in a sense, over others from their beliefs in their own power from their uses of their voices, opinions, and appearances. Power has many definitions and a very long etymological history. However, the most common is listed in the Oxford English Dictionary as the, Capacity to direct or influence the behavior of others; personal or social influence, (Power, n.1 ). Power defines literary characters, movements, real people, and more. Masculinity is also prevalent when looking at power. On The Amtrak From Boston To New York City In the poem On the Amtrak from Boston to New York City, a white woman and a Native American are on an Amtrak together headed to New York City from Boston. The Amtrak was a train that people traveled on during the colonial times. Their cultural differences and perspectives separate them and Alexia shows us how the Indians feel about other races. In this poem, Sherman Alexia shows us the conflict between the Native Americans and the Americans because of their lack of knowledge of the Indian s history prior to colonization in Western America. How to Be Successful at Composting Essay example How to Be Successful at Composting As an avid gardener and as someone who is conscientious of my environment, I purchased a compost bin several years ago. I have an abundance of yard and lawn clippings that I am not willing to dump into our already stressed landfills. In turn, my efforts for composting benefit me greatly because I can use this finished material to improve my soil texture, the soil s ability to hold water, and as a fertilizer. Composting is a biological process for converting organic solid wastes into a stable humus like product. Within a compost pile, microorganisms attack organic substance, breaking it down and producing rich organic matter (Golueke,13). For this to occur, several things need to take place, two of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be done a number of ways. Most county agriculture departments will supply you with a soil test kit or with a phone number to obtain a kit. There is also pH paper on the market along with a more elaborate method known as compost extraction (Trautman). When taking a measurement of the pH, it is important that several readings are taken because your compost is unlikely to be homogenous. It may contain anything from sawdust and grass, to lettuce and coffee grounds. If your pH reading is between 6 and 7.5, most plants will do well in this type of soil. If the pH is 6 or below, the soil is probably too acidic and you will need to add lime to the compost, such as ground chalk or a limey clay (Sines,27). This solution can be said to contain more H+ ions than OH #8209; ions. Many plants such as azaleas, hydrangeas and blueberries love this type of soil. If the soil has a pH above 6, it is too alkaline and contains more OH #8209; ions than H+ ions. You will need to add brown material such as pine needles or sawdust to counter act this condition (Golueke,83). Carbon and Nitrogen (C/N) ratio is also an important element in composting. The ratio is used to give an indication of the speed at which organic residues in the soil are likely to be decomposing. Carbon can be considered the food, providing an energy source and a cellular building block. Some sources of carbon are leaves, cornstalks and twigs. Nitrogen can be considered ...
