What Is An Ideal University Essay
The mailbox hardly seems like a place to make what could be one of the most important decisions
of your life: finding the right college. Yet for me, the mailbox has become a window into my future,
and just the right place to make such a monumental decision. After seeing the infamous green and
white of a Tulane letter, the intrigue I first had about collegeturned to both confidence and interest.
More than just sparking my interest, these letters showed me that, as an aspiring community leader
and medical professional, I can pursue the hands on approach of Tulane s Public Health programs,
the school s unique culture and customs, and the inspiring focus that students put on community
service and engagement. Tulane Universityhas truly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At Tulane, experiences are at the forefront of student culture and involvement. Why just say that
you re a new Tulanian, when you can experience it as you attend an annual Convocation, complete
with a New Orleans style welcome? Even more exciting is the mutual traditions shared by all
Tulane students, such as the bead tree, with its wide branches extended to receive the weight of the
students Mardi Gras adventures. From Crawfest to the university s marching band, Tulane offers
students from every cultural background unique college experiences that only rival the city that
they take place in and the people that provide them Although Tulane may be famous for its
experience centered culture, it is also famous for a far more important culture: one of community
engagement. Having had both academic and professional experience in community service, it is eye
opening as a student to realize the service possibilities that arise out of attending a school like
Tulane. Not only has the university placed such a large emphasis on public service, but has also
made community engagement a core requirement of the undergraduate curriculum. The Center for
Public Service, practically the first organization of its kind on the modern college campus, enables
students to connect their Tulane education with its practical impacts in public

Mrs. Mallard Character Analysis
In a short story titled The Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin in the late 1800s, Mrs.
Mallard represents a key character in the story, also known as the protagonist. This story discusses
a loveless and repressive marriage between Mrs. Louise Mallard and Mr. Brently Mallard. This
identifies as unusual, considering that in this time period society deemed that a woman simply
could not live without a man. Kate Chopinintroduces Mrs. Mallard as an independent yet repressed
woman, which automatically infers problems between the married couple. Mrs. Mallard unveils
her true self after losing her husband. She becomes overwhelmed with independence and awaits
the new possibilities of living a life she can claim her own. Mrs. Mallard represents a woman who
struggles with personal independence, emotional sufferings, and physical ailments. Mrs. Mallard
feels trapped in an oppressive marriage. When Mr. Mallard passes she feels a sense of vast
independence. She embraces her new life after death experience and discovers a newfound sense
of freedom. In The Story of an HourKate Chopin clarifies Mrs. Mallard s emotions after her
husband s death by stating, Into this she sank, pressed down by a physical exhaustion that
haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul. She could see in the open square before her
house the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life (236). She realizes that new
opportunities sit at her fingertips, and she develops a sense of

The Problem Of Teen Violence
Teen violence has become a longstanding agent in the culture of the nation s youth. Every year,
approximately one million twelve to nineteen year olds are murdered or assaulted, many by their
peers, and teenagers are more than twice as likely as adults to become the victims of violence.
From schools (grammar and high school) being subdued by a fellow student on an angry rampage to
figures of the law flipping and dragging students in class. Something has to be done. Although the
issue is far too difficult for any one solution, teaching young people conflict resolution skills,
nonviolent techniques for resolving disputes seems to help. To reduce youthviolence, conflict
resolution skills should be taught to all children before they reach junior high school. First and
probably most important, young people need to learn nonviolent way of dealing with conflict. In a
dangerous society where guns are readily available, many young teens feel they have no choice but
to respond to an insult or an argument with violence. If they have grown up seeing family members
and neighbors react to stress with verbal or physical violence, they may not know that other choices
exist.
Behaviors like carrying a weapon or refusing to be the bigger person , gives young people the
illusion of control of a violent situation. What they urgently need is to learn real control. Many
youth violence prevention programs target teens themselves, giving them coping tactics to cope
with their anger issues or

Essay about The Autobiography of Malcolm X
The Autobiography of Malcolm X The Autobiography of Malcolm X is the story of Malcolm X,
an African American male growing up in the United States in the mid 1900 s. At this time in
America prejudice and segregation were widespread and much a part of everyday life. Malcolm
takes the reader through his experiences with American society, which rejects him. This rejection,
along with the inferiority cast upon all Black Americans, forces these males to search for
acceptance. They are forced to search for purpose in causes greater than single individuals. As the
book shows, this is evident in Malcolm throughout his life and in the life of other African American
males. The Autobiography shows how during this time in American history... Show more content on

This unit was exactly the further acceptance Malcolm, and all rejected males, looked for at this
time in American history. With Malcolm s imprisonment ended the acceptance of the ghetto
hustler and gangster life. In prison Malcolm had to find a new place to turn for acceptance. As
his father did, Malcolm turned to religion. The religion he turned to, The Nation of Islam or
more commonly known as the Black Muslims, were a group of African Americans who believed,
among other things, that whites were the roots of evil. Malcolm became immersed in his
religion. It seeped into every part of his life. For the next years I was the nearest thing to a hermit
in the Norfolk Prison Colony. I have never been more busy in my life (173). Malcolm wrote many
letters to family and friends about his new found faith and , most importantly, he found the
acceptance he longed for with the teachings of Mr. Muhammad. This acceptance gave him purpose
and after his release Malcolm became one of the foremost representatives of the Nation of Islam.
After Malcolm separated from the Nation of Islam, part by choice but part by force, he had to turn
elsewhere for the acceptance and purpose, which all African American males needed at this time.
With his national prominence he formed a new organization. This organization would be the last
place he found acceptance because of his untimely death. His organization, the Muslim Mosque

Battle Royale Analysis
When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the
government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee
restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the
opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme
violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict
within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used
props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger
generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system,
Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the
screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath.
Authority Figures versus Children
To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood.
As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II:
His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions
factory. [...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the
attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and
his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts

Early Cinema Versus Modern Bodies Of Work
When looking at early cinema compared to modern bodies of work, one thing that has changed
dramatically was the way films were edited. From the 1900s through the 1960s, films such as L
Arroseur arrosГ©, Battleship Potemkin, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Citizen Kane, all had
their own way of telling a visual narrative. I m going to give examples of how editing evolved and
what techniques were developed. When looking at the LumiГ©re bros, one of their earlier works L
Arroseur arrosГ© , the editing was very simple. What we see on screen is a wide angle two shot of
a man working in a garden, using a hose. Now here s the key component, by choosing a wide
angle shot, we re able to see a second man walk into frame stepping on the... Show more content on

In his experiment, Kuleshov placed actor Ivan Mosjoukine with shots of three different subjects:
a hot plate of soup, a girl in a coffin, and a pretty woman lying in a couch. The footage of the
actor was the same expressionless gaze. The audience thought his performance was amazing, even
though in each shot he looked hungry, then sad, then lustful. As mentioned in Sikov, Film Studies:
An Introduction, Eisenstein used montage to convey and explore revolutionary ways for the
audience to watch films. Eisenstein believed that montage must consist of colliding shots.
Editing the shots rapidly, to exhibit conflict, making a sequence that more intense. His film,
Battleship Potemkin, is a great example of the soviet montage. There s one sequence in
particular, The Odessa Step that helps express this. It starts out with a wide angle shot of the
crowd, followed by multiply medium shots of the citizens waving to the sailors. shows their
facial expression, as they have wave to the ship. Then suddenly, we get a closeup shot of a
woman in distress, quickly followed by a extreme closeup shot of the same woman, looking even
more frantic. As we see the citizens of Odessa run in terror, one thing that stands out, is the woman
with the white umbrella. As the citizens run franticly down the steps, the woman runs directly into
the camera, by doing so, she creates her own cut in the clip. Next he swiftly cuts to a extreme long
shot showing a soldiers following the

Do you have breakfast?
Having a breakfast in the morning has surfaced the quite serious issue in the contemporary society.
Some people insist that the breakfast can alter human s behavior. Whereas others are against it.
However as far as I am concerned, I believe that having a meal in the morning can alter human
actions throughout the day.
In this essay I will assert my opinions about how breakfast is important and compare what is good
and bad in our daily life.
Breakfast represents the most important meal of starting the day.
How often do you have breakfast in the morning?

The And Sustainability Of The Pioneer River Catchment
1.0 Introduction
Catchments are depended on by the average household person, but even more valuable to the
farmers that are supplying the food to our nation. Therefore, action must be taken to ensure that the
catchments in our areas are healthy and will be able to be depended on for years to come. The
panel at Healthy Water Ways program has developed a study to guarantee the management and
sustainability of The Pioneer River catchment, by sending a team out to analyze the health of the
water ways and decide on a proposal that best suits the area to ensure future healthiness of the basin.
1.1 Background

through the city of Mackay. This river ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the health of the river is and the cause of negative impact will incur a $1000 fine or the
employment of an officer to patrol the wetlands and clean up littler, rubbish control weeds and
report back on the health of the creeks. One will be chosen that best suits this catchment and an
outline of details will be provided.
1.3 Methodology
This report is based upon the collected data from scientific tests and different data collection
experiments, these diverse range of observations helped in determining the health of the river
and catchment as a whole. The experiments tested a range of variables, some including; the
levels of nitrates, phosphates, temperature of water, pH levels, turbidity of water and dissolved
solids. The collection of water and recordings of microorganisms was examined and also
recorded. As well as these scientific tests, simple recordings were also taken of the surrounding
area and the amounts of rubbish and infrastructure that could be seen. The tests conducted in the
river system occurred on the 24th of May 2016, to conduct the tests the trail along the river was
walked, furthering the knowledge of the health of the river and how the the catchment area as a
whole was fairing. However, some differences to the data could be assumed as when tested it was
not always done by the same person, this could have then limited the accuracy. Another

Wrongful Dismissal And Unfair Dismissal
Introduction
The statutory claim for unfair dismissal recognises that the common law cannot give adequate
protection to the employees through the contract of employment, in that wrongful dismissal claim
depends upon a breach of contract of the employment, usually in the form of inadequate notice
being given by the employer. Many dismissals can be considered unfair that do not amount to the
breach of the contract, for the wrongful dismissal claims look not to intention, motive, or the effect
on an employee of a termination of the relationship nor to the procedural protections, but merely to
the form of in which that relationship has been brought to the end. This paper will compare and
contrast the different area between wrongful dismissal and unfair dismissal.
Wrongful dismissal
Wrongful dismissal is the term used at common law to denote the situation in which an employee is
dismissed by an employer in breach of contract. It occurs most commonly in summery dismissal,
namely, without any notice whatsoever. This is justifiable in the case of Laws v London Chronicle
(indicator Newspapers) Ltd (1959), stating that ...Whether the conduct complained of is such as to
show the servant to have disregarded the essential conditions of the contract of service...
What if the employer dismissed an employee without following some procedures proscribed by the
contract? The case of Gunton v Richmond upon Thames London Borough Council (1980) provided
an answer on this matter, if the contract

Socrates Characteristics Of Philosophi
Socrates Compelling Attributes
(A discussion of Socrates characteristics, in Plato s The Republic, that make him so enthralling as
an individual)
He was remarkable for the absolute command he maintained over his emotions and his apparent
indifference to physical hardships (Kenny). Some refer to Socrates as remarkable, influential, or
even intriguing, yet what does it mean to be intriguing? It is someone who is significantly unique
in comparison to the majority of the public. An intriguing person leaves his or her mark with
almost anyone that crosses their path. Many will attest that Socrates was a man who left most
people he met, in a different state of mind. He was one to make people question the society that they
live in and honestly, not many people during that time period were appreciative of his intelligence.
Although there is not very much known about Socrates, as he himself never wrote anything down,
characteristics about him can be inferred through the reading of the dialogues his student, Plato,
wrote. In the first two books of Plato s dialogue, The Republic, there are many aspects of Socrates
that make him such an enthralling and influential individual even today. Being quick witted is one
attribute of Socrates, which makes him such an intriguing individual. The Socratic method of
teaching is possibly what Socrates is best known for in modern times. Asking a question, receiving
an answer, and then asking another question that makes that answer seem invalid is

The Disruption Of A Company
The Disruption Dilemma
I was assigned the book The Disruption Dilemma for this assignment. Gans defined disruption as
what a firm faces when the choices that once drove a firm s success now become those that destroy
it future. Failing firms tend to pursue the choices and strategies that made them successful. We will
go through examples of how a few companies handled themselves in the midst of disruption, the
types of disruptions, the reasons for disruptions, some theories of disruption, managing disruption,
insuring against it, and finally the future of disruption. Let us start by comparing an old and new
disruption dilemma.
The Encyclopedia Britanna example is an example of disruption and how successful companies
continue to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key reason a firm fails from disruption is new technology, the ability to imitate, and the failure
to take advantage of an opportunity like Blockbuster in 2000.
There are a couple of sources of disruption, demand side, supply side mechanisms and disruptive
innovation. The demand side where existing firms are blindsided from a new innovation and lose
customers from changing customer wants. The supply side where organizations cannot make
organizational changes necessary to compete with new entrants. Disruptive innovation follows an S
Curve where an organization may initially perform worse and then rapidly improves.
Companies need to predict the disruption effect of new technologies, but sometimes they are not
appreciated at the time of invention and are ignored. Massively Open Online Courses or MOCC is
currently changing the education field by offering free education that threatens expensive
universities. A dilemma with new technologies is that they cannot be predicted. If disruptive events
could be predicted, they would not really be disruptive, because a business then could plan for it.
To lower uncertainties of dilemmas companies need to consider whether they should invest in a
new technology, but their existing technology might be working fine for the moment. There is a
plethora of ways a firm could be disrupted, but companies do not have enough resources or
attention. Even so, sometimes firms see

of privileged communications: attorney/client, doctor/patient, psychotherapist/patient, parishioner

of the main reasons this privilege exists is to allow a person seeking treatment to be completely

What Are The Similarities Between The Philippines And The Us
There are many similarities and differences between the United States (US) and the Philippines.
The US believes in a free country where everyone has a say in government. A lot of people like to
travel to the US because they offer an abundance of opportunities and jobs for people who want to
live a better life. The US also provides great health care and education. Furthermore, the US offers
numerous tourist attractions and forms of entertainment. While the US has several great attributes,
the Philippines has many similar characteristics, a number of differences, but either way, both
countries are amazing places to live in. The US and the Philippines share a lot of similar traits. They
both share very similar governments. In both governments, there s voting involved, a president,
branches of government and a constitution. These two countries also both have an independence
day. Additionally, both countries have a great deal of different religions that are freely worshipped
in them, such as Islam and Christianity. Both countries also provide great education and health

This is because they carry their liberal ideas with them into other aspects of their life such as how

liberals don t use corporal punishment, which is because they believe that corporal punishment is
outdated. Another trend: since those who vote for Hillary Clinton carry their tolerance and
empathy with them beyond the voting posts also tend to believe that corporal punishment is old

words such as generalissimo , he also takes awhile to make his decisions. While he is eating
dinner, Teddy contemplated his choice, pondering on the tactics that he needs to use in relieving
the siege of the fort by the river (Nowlan 131). Teddy weighs the pros and cons and thinks about
what might happen, If the Upalian army crossed the Tabelian marches, they might succeed in

In contrast to Miss Strangeworth and Teddy s power and status in their towns, the respect and

The Importance And Power Of Resistance In Glory
In the song Glory sung by John Legend and Common is a powerful song inspired by the Civil
Rights Movement. The theme of this song is that resistance enacts change. There are several
literary devices that convey the importance and power of peaceful protest such as allusion,
symbolism, and metaphors. These three literary devices help to illustrate the struggle, dedication,
and triumphs of those involved in peaceful protestof the civil rights movement.
Allusion is one of the main literary devices used to portray the theme that resistance engenders
eventual change. John Legend and Common alluded to other peaceful demonstrations that have
called attention to social issues, that have slowly been resolved due to resistance of unfair
treatment. The first example can be found in the lyric, That s why Rosa sat on the bus (line 17) is
referring to the resistance of blacks. Rosa Parks is one of the most renowned civil rights activist,
she refused to render her bus seat to a white male in 1955. During her resistance, she remained
peaceful. She did not fight the white male, nor did she fight the white law enforcement officers
when they forcibly removed her from the bus. Therefore, due to Rosa Park s peaceful resistance,
in 1956 buses were desegregated. By not following unjust laws of society, Rosa s resistance was
able to enact change. The second allusion references a more recent protest; the protest in Ferguson,
Missouri in which a black, unarmed teenager was killed by a white law

Intern At A Rose Garden Florist
This summer I had the opportunity to intern at A Rose Garden Florist. With this internship I had
goals set in mind that I wanted to accomplish; these goals consisted of being able to identify
plants when I see them, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of a garden, the different care needs
for plants, ways to preserve plants, and for growing them. Digging a hole, putting a seedinto it then
refilling the dirt and watering it was the only way I thought you could grow something. This
summer I found out that you can in fact place seeds between two wet paper towels and they will
start to sprout and once they have you can plantthem into the ground and they will continue to
grow. I feel this is a much better way to start out plants because you have it started before you put
them into the ground and can have an idea of how many will fully grow. However, in order for
them to be able to grow in the area in which you plant them there should be no weeds to choke
them out; this is where being able to tell a difference in plants can come in rather handy. While
weeding out a garden it is important to know the difference between the weeds and new sprouts
of plants you put in a couple weeks before. It is also very beneficial to pull the weeds out as close
to their roots as possible so that they will not reappear; if you only pull off what you see above
ground you will have a weed problem indefinitely and your plants could struggle greatly while
trying to thrive due to the weeds

Great Gatsby Film Analysis
The Great Gatsby film shows a strong atmosphere and the soundtrack is perfectly combined with a
script that despite being able to be topical, just winning the game to what we believe will be pure
routine film. 3D for this adaption of The Great Gatsby, although modern, is unnecessary. 9 out of 10
star rating? I think yes!
The tempo of the story is true success, and Leonardo DiCaprio, spotless, we enter into a New
York post war fantastically. Moreover, the dialogues are superb, and above all, they are no better
than Tobey Maguire. Australian screenwriter, producer and director Baz Luhrmann s fifth feature
film which he co wrote with Australian screenwriter Craig Pearce and co produced, is an
adaptation of a novel from 1925 by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The Great Gatsby, set in New York 1922, is narrated by Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), and is a
story about the millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), who desperately tries to recover the
one person he ever loved, Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). She is married somewhat happily
to Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton), also another very rich fellow. The other characters consist of
professional golfer Jordan Baker (Elizabeth Dibicki), Tom Wilson (Jason Clarke), a gas station
owner, and his wife Myrtle (Isla Fisher.) When Nick moves next door to Gatsby in West Egg, he
is eventually invited to one Gatsby s famous parties and the story takes off. For those of you who

Distinction Between State and Government
Introduction
The state and government are distinguished in terms of functions, structures, duties, composition
and the nature of their powers. The state is permanent, whilst government changes, altered or
modified and even overthrown. The state employs bureaucrats who employed based on merit and
who are politically neutral to conduct its business whilst government consists of elected officials
who represent partisan sympathies. The state is more extensive than the government. The state is
characterized by state institutions, exercise of legitimacy, territorial association and sovereignty
whilst government is composed of three arms namely legislature, executive and judiciary. However
the state and government are interrelated as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand the government has power to make laws for the state even without the consent
of the people thus it has absolute and final legal authority over all matters and is not subject to
any power outside itself according to Khan and mc Niven (1999:29). For example laws such as
Public order Security Act (POSA) enforced by the government without seeking the consent of the
people. Therefore, state and government are different in terms of the nature of their powers as each
has its own specific powers different from the other.
Nevertheless, state and government are differentiated as the state is characterized by sovereignty,
state institutions, legitimacy and territorial association whilst government is characterized by the
three arms namely legislature, executive and judiciary respectively. According to Heywood
(2000:39), contends through sovereignty the state exercises absolute and unrestricted power in
that it stands above all other associations and groups in society. Hobbes for this reason portrayed
the state as a Leviathian a gigantic monster. State institutions are recognizably public in contrast to
the private institutions of civil society. The state bodies are responsible for making and enforcing
collective decisions in society and are funded ate the public expense. For example in Zimbabwe the
police, army and courts are funded by the state for them to function fully. Due to legitimacy state
decisions are usually accepted as binding on the

The Play Antonia
Antonia
Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Oscar F. Brockett Theater, the Cohen New Works Festival presented
the play Antonia. The Chicana adaptation of Antigone. Si Mon Emmett; project leader, Conner
Palmore; director, and D Lonte Lawson; choreographer aimed to honor generations of marginalized
communities in the United States. With the help of the theatre space, costumes, and powerful acting
this vibrant play reaches its full effect as it brings the audience to its plot.
Theatre Space: Antonia was presented in a thrust stage. This type of stage allowed for the audience
to be more intimate with the actors and form part of the world in which the play was taking place. In

Antonia, the main character wore jeans, black Converse, a spaghetti strap shirt that showed her
belly area, a high pony tail, hoop earrings, and spandex underneath her jeans. On the other hand, her
brothers, wore Nike sneakers, a hoodie, sweatpants, hats, and a bandana. This choice of costumes
really helped refocus the idea that Antonia is the Chicana adaptation of Antigone
Acting:
Antonia is a woman who will do anything for her loved ones even if that means puttieng her life is
on the line. Throughout the play, Si Mon Emmett demonstrates Antonia s strong character. The best
example of this is seen after intermission, when Antonia must faces her Nino after breaking the
rules for Terra, her deceased brother. In this scene, Si Mon Emmet keeps herself grounded and
defiant despite the proximity she has with the audience. With the use of her voice, energy, and
timing, Emmet acts with strength and presents her character well.
Conclusion:
Overall this new work, is fun and captivating. The ability to bring the audience into the Chicano
world and understand the struggle of its characters should be recognized. The choice of theatre
space, costumes, and actors are three of the many elements that help it stand out.

Comparing The Two Creation Stories
Michael Gugliotta
10/23/14
English 2 Honors
Mrs. Salvatorelli
The Similarities of the Two Creation Stories The story of Creation in the Bible begins with God
creating a human in his own image, naming him Adam. He created a human to carry out his
commandments and to be good. Then, God created Eve, a companion for Adam. Adam and Eve
were persuaded by Satan, in the form of a serpent, and took a bite out of the apple that God told
them not to eat. When God found out, they were banned from the Garden of Eden. In Mary Shelly s,
Frankenstein, Victor constructs a monster as a template for a new race that would worship him.
Unfortunately, Victor did not think past the moment of birth, and the monster, who should have
been Victor s Adam, instead associated more with Satan. Unlike the creation story of Adam and
Eve, the creation story of Frankenstein is one that goes horribly wrong due to the pursuit of
knowledge. In Frankenstein, Victor creates the monster for selfish reasons. Victor did not know
if reanimating life was possible, but my imagination was too much exalted... to permit me to
doubt of my ability of to give life to an animal as complex and wonderful as man (57). The
impression of Victor creating a creature in his own image relates to the story of Adam and Eve.
God created Adam and Eve to bring new life to Earth. He also wanted them to carry out his laws
and treat each other and everything they encountered with adoration and respect. Like God, Victor
wanted his creature

The Meaning Of Love In Anne Sexton s Cinderella
Once Jean Farris said, And they lived happily (aside from a few normal disagreements,
misunderstandings, pouts, silent treatments, and unexpected calamities) ever after (Jean). Many
can relate to Farris s quote as falling in love is sometimes accidental, but staying in love is a
choice that is made. A successful relationship may be the product of an almost fairy talelike
romance. However, after tying the knot, hard work and commitment are needed from both sides to
solidify the relationship in order to achieve the happily ever after . Throughout human civilization
expressing lovehas generated countless literature and intellectual works in every language and
culture known. While many of these works will come to rejoice love, others will address it with
resentment and bitterness. In her poem Cinderella, Anne Sexton offers us a different version of the
traditional Cinderella story. Sexton uses sarcasm and paradox through her poem arguing the
sham of happily ever after as portrayed in certain fairy tales stories and how it always has been
represented through media. On the other hand, Lydia Davis s short story, Break It Down
narrates the dilemma of a man who is trying to break down the cost of eight days of love that
costed him almost $1000 by the end of his affair, in a way, he was trying to question if love is a
wise investment or if it is possible to put a price tag on love. Sexton s Cinderella lays out a helpful

Gender Inequality In Jane Eyre
The Victorian Era was the decade of extreme social and gender inequality. In many ways, the
society was polarized in that men are treated as superior individuals, whereas women are looked
down upon. In the novel, Jane Eyre, inequality is portrayed through marriages of characters. The
issue is further acknowledged with the different perspectives of the society, characters and the
author. In her novel, Jane Eyre, Charlotte BrontГ« disagrees with the society s implication of
marriage as a confinement of freedom, but instead suggests that marriage should be based on
equality and duties.
Because the setting takes place in the Victorian Age, BrontГ« points out the society s
expectation of marriage at the time, which is women s subjection to men; however she
expresses her disagreement of it by advising a marriage built on equality. She states that society s
definition of marriage is the exchange between male financial supports for female sexuality.
During the party of Rochester, Jane indicates her belief on marriage. I saw he was going to
marry her, for family, perhaps political reasons; because her rank and connexions suited him; I felt
he had not given her his love (216). Jane s belief is shaped by society s expectations that
individuals can only marry someone in their own social status. Therefore, Jane believes that
Rochester will marry Ms. Ingram due to her high rank, wealth and beauty. She concludes that
although there is no love between the two, they will come together for

The Cultural Structures Of The United States
Very often people live their lives without the awareness of the basic structures that they are
exposed to and adapted into. The very things that regulate our day to day lives are often
overlooked or never noticed. Johnson discovered this while vacationing in Mexico. While
appreciating his time away from home, he came to realize that he had lost his actual sense of time.
This created a feeling of uneasiness and the general feeling of being lost. Johnson wasn t lost in the
sense of being in an unidentified place; he was lost due to his withdrawal from his cultural time
structure. Nature is not defined by minutes, hours, weeks, or years. Time is a creation of people,
yet in some cultures is regarded as being natural . Because systems are integral to culture, Johnson
came to realize that time organization is much more than creating a distinction between specific
moments within a given day. He realized that the concept of time was created to allow a cultural
structure to regulate itself and to organize the people within it. It allows for efficiency and the
ability of people to conduct themselves within their culture s expectations. These cultural
expectations are what shape the social structures found within a society. The social structures are
the things that design relationships between people and people, people and systems, or systems
and systems. The social structures provide a blueprint for how we are to live our lives in relation
to one another. In one sense, social

We Wear The Mask Dunbar Analysis
Realism writing started to be used in the 1800s, basically to show what the world actually
consisted of and not what our eyes tried to see. Realism did not sugar coat anything, regardless of
what it was. It would speak whatever, but always with the truth.
In the stories of We Wear the Mask by Paul Lawrence Dunbar and The Story of an Hour by Kate
Chopin both authors develop the theme within these two stories. The view of point that these
two stories develop is that people go by what is on the outside of your appearance not by what
your emotions are or how you feel in the inside. Dunbar and Chopin both develop this theme
within two main literary terms. In the story We Wear the Mask Dunbar uses symbolism mostly
throughout his whole poem. The poem may be short but as you read it you realize it has a very
big meaning behind it, and within it, it is all truth. While in The Story of an Hour , Chopin uses
the literary term of irony, when you read the story you wouldn t have expected how it started, to
how it ended up ending. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, with torn and bleeding hearts we smile, and mouth with myriad subtleties to that
sentence a lot of people may be able to relate to this. Realism comes in within this sentence
because it s truth even though we are broken, torn, upset, feeling miserable we still manage to
find a way to hide it within giving a slight broken smile. We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise this sentence has a lot of meaning behind it, because like I
previously said other people may not know how we feel but Christ is the One who knows how
we really feel. Let the world dream otherwise, we wear the mask! Don t let them see how you
actually feel, just hide it within a mask so no one would know how you feel . Dunbar really hit the
jackpot with this poem because it speaks nothing but real

Ecclesiastes Act 2 Passage Analysis
Four Scripture Passages 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV): But He said to me, My grace is succicient
for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of
my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. This passage of Scripture was
written by the apostle Paul as he was reflecting upon the thorn of his flesh. Paul had entreated the
Lord asking why he was burdened with such an affliction, but the Lord answered that [His] grace
is sufficient and was using Paul s suffering to further His purpose. The Lord was teaching Paul
that suffering can be used and that although at times suffering may seem that it is too much to
bear, this suffering is actually being used by the Lord to help grow His people. Paul s thorn was
used to prevent him from becoming conceited at the knowledge of how much the Lord had
revealed to him and how much the Lord was using him (2 Cor. 12:7 9). Ecclesiastes 7:17 (ESV):

Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor
The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The
narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays
lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the
correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of
information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its
impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that
genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity.
The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends
on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes
that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned
functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information
is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival
need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Through the phrase much other
information was passed on , the narrator conveys the abundantly distinct richness of information,
which is inferred by the connotations much and other . The description that information was passed

The head of the Ottoman Empire at that time was Sultan Murad II, who they ended up living with

Statin Research Paper
Statins (also known as 3 hydroxy 3 methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors) are widely
prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
Although they are considered to be drugs with a very good safety profile, there are many concerns
that their adverse effects might compromise their proven beneficial effects due to their extensive
usage.
Even though more aggressive lipid lowering with potent statins in high doses can reduce rates of
non fatal events and need for interventions, the incremental mortality benefits are still vague, and
their use is associated with a higher rate of drug related adverse effects.
Common adverse effects
Clinical experience shows that statin therapy may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several widely used statins (such as lovastatin, atorvastatin and simvastatin) are metabolized by the
cytochrome P450 (CYP)3A4 pathway.
Co administration of statins with cyclosporine, erythromycin, niacin or fibrates carries an increased
risk for myopathy. Cyclosporin and erythromycin interact with statins via the CYP3A4 pathway and
by interfering with OAT1B1 a membrane transporter that helps regulate drug influx to the liver.
Certain drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, are considered weaker CYP3A4 inhibitors and
appear to increase statin rhabdomyolysis risk to a lower degree. Furthermore, grapefruit juice and
pomegranate juice inhibit CYP3A4 and have been presumptively linked to statin rhabdomyolysis.
In conclusion, statins are the mainstay of lipid lowering therapy, with multiple studies confirming
that low density lipoprotein reduction leads to improvements in cardiovascular morbidity and
mortality. Adverse effects and interactions associated with their use are outweighed by their proven
benefits in clinical event

The Irish Culture And The Person I Interviewed
Ireland is a country that is rich in culture, traditions, and faith. This country has struggled with over
time with famine, religious tension, and even freedom. Many individuals immigrated to America
in search of a better life. The person I chose to interview family came over to the United States
when Ireland was struggling with famine. They came over on a boat through New York and
changed there name to make it more American. For this paper I will further discuss the Irish culture
and the person I interviewed.
Description of the Person and Cultural Heritage
For a short time in Ireland many were faced with a hard decision due to the struggling with
starvation in a time of famine. With this hardship many made the difficult choice to leave their
country and seek refuge in the United States. The individual that I interview had family that lived in
County Cork, Ireland and they decided to make the journey to the United States in hopes of a
better life. Her Grandparents came to the United States through New York and changed their last
name by dropping the prefix to make it more American. They moved to Cleveland and her
grandfather was able to find work at chief Boyardee to support his family. Many traditions have
been passed down from generation to generation. Celebration St. Patrick s day was always an
important day for this family. This was a time to eat traditional Irish food, music, and Irish folk
dancing. The catholic faith is very important aspect of this

U.s. Department Of The Criminal Justice Field
In my Special Topics in Geography course, the instructor Dr. Hilburn had assigned my peers and I
to do a map of anything that interests us by applying all the skills and knowledge that we have
learned during the semester. During my research of opting of what should I do my map about I
focused myself within the study field in which I am majoring so, I started researching anything that
is related to the criminal justice field. A key factor that helped me determined what should the topic
of my map focus on was the notion that I live in a border town that is next to Mexico. Eventually, I
decided to do a map that will focus at a state level on the territories within Mexico that transnational
criminal organizations have a dominant influence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice
National Drug Intelligence Center, drug cartels can be define as ...large, highly sophisticated
organizations composed of multiple [Drug Trafficking Organizations] DTOs and cells with specific
assignments such as drug transportation, security/enforcement, or money laundering (2010). Also,
it is mention within this national drug threat assessment that was done by the U.S. Department of
Justice, that the greatest drug trafficking threat to the United States is Mexico (2010). With this
been said one can understand that the roots majority of the criminal groups that operate
domestically within the U.S. can be traced back to Mexico. So, in order to understand how this

Foils In Sophocles Antigone
Stand up or Don t stand at all
In a human s lifetime someone has to stand up for what they believe in, in order to make a
difference. The Greek play Antigone, by Sophocles takes place in the city of Thebes and is about
two sisters, Ismene and Antigone, reacting to the deaths of their two brothers. Ismene and Antigone
s two brothers were at war on opposites sides of a civil war. They ended up killing each other in
combat. Since the brothers, who were supposed to be the next kings of Thebes, were dead, the
throne was passed to their uncle Creon. Creon, considering Polyneices a traitor, decides that he
will only honor the brother Eteocles. This infuriates Antigone, who decides she will honor
Polyneices by burying him, despite the law made against it. In the first scene Antigone takes her
sister Ismene outside to the private gates to talk about her brother Polyneices not being able to be
buried. They go back and forth over Antigone s choice to bury their brother. Ismene doesn t want

As Ismene shows her cowardice, insecurity, and selfishness, Antigone s traits of bravery,
confidence and selflessness are highlighted making her seem like the better character. Whereas
Antigone was constantly willing to sacrifice her safety in order to do do what was right for her
brother while Ismene repeatedly tried to bring up options so that she could secure her safety.
Even today, there are people trying to make a difference and do what they think is morally right
just like Antigone, in the face of people like Ismene, who are too worried about the negative
consequences of their actions to do the right thing. Some activists such as Harriet Tubman, Martin
Luther King, and Nelson Mandela, stood up for what they believed in, despite breaking the laws
of their times. If more people took a chance and stood up for what they believed in there would be

Online MBA Programs versus On site Programs With unemployment rates at an all time high
combined with the increasing costs associated with traditional brick and mortar schools, online
education is by far one of the fastest growing and thriving industries. As younger students are
attempting to pursue traditional higher education, they are realizing that the costs are not only
increasing daily, but the programs are longer in duration and often not a better education than the
online line programs. Those who have lost their jobs and need an edge over other unemployed
candidates are finding that a B.A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where as our initial marketing plan was very narrow, the market has since completely opened up
and we now are in a position expand our offerings to larger audience. We will propose to re brand
and redirect our SDHE as to appeal to a much broader demographic segment. The ultimate goal is
to convince potential students that SDHE is a viable higher education institution that exceeds the

we are in fact a smaller institution and can therefore offer a more customized program in which
students do not feel as though they are just a source of revenue for our company; they will feel as
though they are receiving critical and accessible services that they will not receive from the larger
institutions.

Stereotypes Of Women In Video Games
Throughout the years, society has become more accepting of diverse topics and ideas. As society
continues to evolve, numerous entertainments have turned to displaying a greater amount of
minority groups. Although movies and television shows are rapidly progressing towards this trend,
video games seem to be cautiously starting to accept these ideas. Most of the advertising in video
games are promoted towards the male population. Despite the fact men have previously been the
dominant demographic in this type of entertainment, women have increasingly become a major part
of the video gameaudience. In creating video games in which portray the opposite genderin a
realistic way is beneficial to not only the female players but also to the male. It is important to
promote the creation of gender appropriate video games due to it decreasing the amount of
sexualization and violence against women which assists in women s self confidence and men s
treatment towards women.

(Parkin). Even the cover art of this game showcases Lara as a real woman rather than a sexualized
object. In the past, the Tomb Raider franchise originally portrayed Lara as an unobtainable

  • 4. The Problem Of Teen Violence Teen violence has become a longstanding agent in the culture of the nation s youth. Every year, approximately one million twelve to nineteen year olds are murdered or assaulted, many by their peers, and teenagers are more than twice as likely as adults to become the victims of violence. From schools (grammar and high school) being subdued by a fellow student on an angry rampage to figures of the law flipping and dragging students in class. Something has to be done. Although the issue is far too difficult for any one solution, teaching young people conflict resolution skills, nonviolent techniques for resolving disputes seems to help. To reduce youthviolence, conflict resolution skills should be taught to all children before they reach junior high school. First and probably most important, young people need to learn nonviolent way of dealing with conflict. In a dangerous society where guns are readily available, many young teens feel they have no choice but to respond to an insult or an argument with violence. If they have grown up seeing family members and neighbors react to stress with verbal or physical violence, they may not know that other choices exist. Behaviors like carrying a weapon or refusing to be the bigger person , gives young people the illusion of control of a violent situation. What they urgently need is to learn real control. Many youth violence prevention programs target teens themselves, giving them coping tactics to cope with their anger issues or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about The Autobiography of Malcolm X The Autobiography of Malcolm X The Autobiography of Malcolm X is the story of Malcolm X, an African American male growing up in the United States in the mid 1900 s. At this time in America prejudice and segregation were widespread and much a part of everyday life. Malcolm takes the reader through his experiences with American society, which rejects him. This rejection, along with the inferiority cast upon all Black Americans, forces these males to search for acceptance. They are forced to search for purpose in causes greater than single individuals. As the book shows, this is evident in Malcolm throughout his life and in the life of other African American males. The Autobiography shows how during this time in American history... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This unit was exactly the further acceptance Malcolm, and all rejected males, looked for at this time in American history. With Malcolm s imprisonment ended the acceptance of the ghetto hustler and gangster life. In prison Malcolm had to find a new place to turn for acceptance. As his father did, Malcolm turned to religion. The religion he turned to, The Nation of Islam or more commonly known as the Black Muslims, were a group of African Americans who believed, among other things, that whites were the roots of evil. Malcolm became immersed in his religion. It seeped into every part of his life. For the next years I was the nearest thing to a hermit in the Norfolk Prison Colony. I have never been more busy in my life (173). Malcolm wrote many letters to family and friends about his new found faith and , most importantly, he found the acceptance he longed for with the teachings of Mr. Muhammad. This acceptance gave him purpose and after his release Malcolm became one of the foremost representatives of the Nation of Islam. After Malcolm separated from the Nation of Islam, part by choice but part by force, he had to turn elsewhere for the acceptance and purpose, which all African American males needed at this time. With his national prominence he formed a new organization. This organization would be the last place he found acceptance because of his untimely death. • 8. Battle Royale Analysis When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath. Authority Figures versus Children To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. As a young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II: His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions factory. [...] The survivors of the attack used the corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and his surviving friends were given the task of disposing of the body parts ... • 9. Early Cinema Versus Modern Bodies Of Work When looking at early cinema compared to modern bodies of work, one thing that has changed dramatically was the way films were edited. From the 1900s through the 1960s, films such as L Arroseur arrosГ©, Battleship Potemkin, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Citizen Kane, all had their own way of telling a visual narrative. I m going to give examples of how editing evolved and what techniques were developed. When looking at the LumiГ©re bros, one of their earlier works L Arroseur arrosГ© , the editing was very simple. What we see on screen is a wide angle two shot of a man working in a garden, using a hose. In his experiment, Kuleshov placed actor Ivan Mosjoukine with shots of three different subjects: a hot plate of soup, a girl in a coffin, and a pretty woman lying in a couch. The footage of the actor was the same expressionless gaze. The audience thought his performance was amazing, even though in each shot he looked hungry, then sad, then lustful. As mentioned in Sikov, Film Studies: An Introduction, Eisenstein used montage to convey and explore revolutionary ways for the audience to watch films. Eisenstein believed that montage must consist of colliding shots. Editing the shots rapidly, to exhibit conflict, making a sequence that more intense. His film, Battleship Potemkin, is a great example of the soviet montage. There s one sequence in particular, The Odessa Step that helps express this. It starts out with a wide angle shot of the crowd, followed by multiply medium shots of the citizens waving to the sailors. shows their facial expression, as they have wave to the ship. Then suddenly, we get a closeup shot of a woman in distress, quickly followed by a extreme closeup shot of the same woman, looking even more frantic. • 12. Wrongful Dismissal And Unfair Dismissal Introduction The statutory claim for unfair dismissal recognises that the common law cannot give adequate protection to the employees through the contract of employment, in that wrongful dismissal claim depends upon a breach of contract of the employment, usually in the form of inadequate notice being given by the employer. Many dismissals can be considered unfair that do not amount to the breach of the contract, for the wrongful dismissal claims look not to intention, motive, or the effect on an employee of a termination of the relationship nor to the procedural protections, but merely to the form of in which that relationship has been brought to the end. This paper will compare and contrast the different area between wrongful dismissal and unfair dismissal. Wrongful dismissal Wrongful dismissal is the term used at common law to denote the situation in which an employee is dismissed by an employer in breach of contract. It occurs most commonly in summery dismissal, namely, without any notice whatsoever. This is justifiable in the case of Laws v London Chronicle (indicator Newspapers) Ltd (1959), stating that ...Whether the conduct complained of is such as to show the servant to have disregarded the essential conditions of the contract of service... Socrates Characteristics Of Philosophi Socrates Compelling Attributes (A discussion of Socrates characteristics, in Plato s The Republic, that make him so enthralling as an individual) He was remarkable for the absolute command he maintained over his emotions and his apparent indifference to physical hardships (Kenny). Some refer to Socrates as remarkable, influential, or even intriguing, yet what does it mean to be intriguing? It is someone who is significantly unique in comparison to the majority of the public. An intriguing person leaves his or her mark with almost anyone that crosses their path. Many will attest that Socrates was a man who left most people he met, in a different state of mind. He was one to make people question the society that they live in and honestly, not many people during that time period were appreciative of his intelligence. Although there is not very much known about Socrates, as he himself never wrote anything down, characteristics about him can be inferred through the reading of the dialogues his student, Plato, wrote. In the first two books of Plato s dialogue, The Republic, there are many aspects of Socrates that make him such an enthralling and influential individual even today. Being quick witted is one attribute of Socrates, which makes him such an intriguing individual. The Socratic method of teaching is possibly what Socrates is best known for in modern times. Even then, he s still being terrorized by various kinds of tyrannical powers: the tyranny of marriage (his very uptight wife, Dame Van Winkle, nags on him a lot), the tyranny of social expectations (a man in his prime is expected to do something beneficial), and the tyranny of government (he is under direct rule of King George III). Gans defined disruption as what a firm faces when the choices that once drove a firm s success now become those that destroy it future. Failing firms tend to pursue the choices and strategies that made them successful. We will go through examples of how a few companies handled themselves in the midst of disruption, the types of disruptions, the reasons for disruptions, some theories of disruption, managing disruption, insuring against it, and finally the future of disruption. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The key reason a firm fails from disruption is new technology, the ability to imitate, and the failure to take advantage of an opportunity like Blockbuster in 2000. There are a couple of sources of disruption, demand side, supply side mechanisms and disruptive innovation. The demand side where existing firms are blindsided from a new innovation and lose customers from changing customer wants. The supply side where organizations cannot make organizational changes necessary to compete with new entrants. Disruptive innovation follows an S Curve where an organization may initially perform worse and then rapidly improves. Companies need to predict the disruption effect of new technologies, but sometimes they are not appreciated at the time of invention and are ignored. Massively Open Online Courses or MOCC is currently changing the education field by offering free education that threatens expensive universities. A dilemma with new technologies is that they cannot be predicted. If disruptive events could be predicted, they would not really be disruptive, because a business then could plan for it. To lower uncertainties of dilemmas companies need to consider whether they should invest in a new technology, but their existing technology might be working fine for the moment. • 24. The Importance And Power Of Resistance In Glory In the song Glory sung by John Legend and Common is a powerful song inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. The theme of this song is that resistance enacts change. There are several literary devices that convey the importance and power of peaceful protest such as allusion, symbolism, and metaphors. These three literary devices help to illustrate the struggle, dedication, and triumphs of those involved in peaceful protestof the civil rights movement. Allusion is one of the main literary devices used to portray the theme that resistance engenders eventual change. John Legend and Common alluded to other peaceful demonstrations that have called attention to social issues, that have slowly been resolved due to resistance of unfair treatment. The first example can be found in the lyric, That s why Rosa sat on the bus (line 17) is referring to the resistance of blacks. Rosa Parks is one of the most renowned civil rights activist, she refused to render her bus seat to a white male in 1955. During her resistance, she remained peaceful. She did not fight the white male, nor did she fight the white law enforcement officers when they forcibly removed her from the bus. Therefore, due to Rosa Park s peaceful resistance, in 1956 buses were desegregated. By not following unjust laws of society, Rosa s resistance was able to enact change. With this internship I had goals set in mind that I wanted to accomplish; these goals consisted of being able to identify plants when I see them, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of a garden, the different care needs for plants, ways to preserve plants, and for growing them. Digging a hole, putting a seedinto it then refilling the dirt and watering it was the only way I thought you could grow something. This summer I found out that you can in fact place seeds between two wet paper towels and they will start to sprout and once they have you can plantthem into the ground and they will continue to grow. I feel this is a much better way to start out plants because you have it started before you put them into the ground and can have an idea of how many will fully grow. However, in order for them to be able to grow in the area in which you plant them there should be no weeds to choke them out; this is where being able to tell a difference in plants can come in rather handy. While weeding out a garden it is important to know the difference between the weeds and new sprouts of plants you put in a couple weeks before. It is also very beneficial to pull the weeds out as close to their roots as possible so that they will not reappear; if you only pull off what you see above ground you will have a weed problem indefinitely and your plants could struggle greatly while trying to thrive due to the weeds ... • 30. Comparing The Two Creation Stories Michael Gugliotta 10/23/14 English 2 Honors Mrs. Salvatorelli The Similarities of the Two Creation Stories The story of Creation in the Bible begins with God creating a human in his own image, naming him Adam. He created a human to carry out his commandments and to be good. Then, God created Eve, a companion for Adam. Adam and Eve were persuaded by Satan, in the form of a serpent, and took a bite out of the apple that God told them not to eat. When God found out, they were banned from the Garden of Eden. In Mary Shelly s, Frankenstein, Victor constructs a monster as a template for a new race that would worship him. Unfortunately, Victor did not think past the moment of birth, and the monster, who should have been Victor s Adam, instead associated more with Satan. Unlike the creation story of Adam and Eve, the creation story of Frankenstein is one that goes horribly wrong due to the pursuit of knowledge. In Frankenstein, Victor creates the monster for selfish reasons. Victor did not know if reanimating life was possible, but my imagination was too much exalted... to permit me to doubt of my ability of to give life to an animal as complex and wonderful as man (57). The impression of Victor creating a creature in his own image relates to the story of Adam and Eve. God created Adam and Eve to bring new life to Earth. A successful relationship may be the product of an almost fairy talelike romance. However, after tying the knot, hard work and commitment are needed from both sides to solidify the relationship in order to achieve the happily ever after . Throughout human civilization expressing lovehas generated countless literature and intellectual works in every language and culture known. While many of these works will come to rejoice love, others will address it with resentment and bitterness. In her poem Cinderella, Anne Sexton offers us a different version of the traditional Cinderella story. Sexton uses sarcasm and paradox through her poem arguing the sham of happily ever after as portrayed in certain fairy tales stories and how it always has been represented through media. The very things that regulate our day to day lives are often overlooked or never noticed. Johnson discovered this while vacationing in Mexico. While appreciating his time away from home, he came to realize that he had lost his actual sense of time. This created a feeling of uneasiness and the general feeling of being lost. Johnson wasn t lost in the sense of being in an unidentified place; he was lost due to his withdrawal from his cultural time structure. Nature is not defined by minutes, hours, weeks, or years. Time is a creation of people, yet in some cultures is regarded as being natural . Because systems are integral to culture, Johnson came to realize that time organization is much more than creating a distinction between specific moments within a given day. He realized that the concept of time was created to allow a cultural structure to regulate itself and to organize the people within it. It allows for efficiency and the ability of people to conduct themselves within their culture s expectations. These cultural expectations are what shape the social structures found within a society. Realism did not sugar coat anything, regardless of what it was. It would speak whatever, but always with the truth. In the stories of We Wear the Mask by Paul Lawrence Dunbar and The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin both authors develop the theme within these two stories. The view of point that these two stories develop is that people go by what is on the outside of your appearance not by what your emotions are or how you feel in the inside. Dunbar and Chopin both develop this theme within two main literary terms. In the story We Wear the Mask Dunbar uses symbolism mostly throughout his whole poem. The poem may be short but as you read it you realize it has a very big meaning behind it, and within it, it is all truth. This passage of Scripture was written by the apostle Paul as he was reflecting upon the thorn of his flesh. Paul had entreated the Lord asking why he was burdened with such an affliction, but the Lord answered that [His] grace is sufficient and was using Paul s suffering to further His purpose. The Lord was teaching Paul that suffering can be used and that although at times suffering may seem that it is too much to bear, this suffering is actually being used by the Lord to help grow His people. Paul s thorn was used to prevent him from becoming conceited at the knowledge of how much the Lord had revealed to him and how much the Lord was using him (2 Cor. 12:7 9). • 38. Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity. The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Statin Research Paper Statins (also known as 3 hydroxy 3 methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors) are widely prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. Although they are considered to be drugs with a very good safety profile, there are many concerns that their adverse effects might compromise their proven beneficial effects due to their extensive usage. Even though more aggressive lipid lowering with potent statins in high doses can reduce rates of non fatal events and need for interventions, the incremental mortality benefits are still vague, and their use is associated with a higher rate of drug related adverse effects. Several widely used statins (such as lovastatin, atorvastatin and simvastatin) are metabolized by the cytochrome P450 (CYP)3A4 pathway. Cyclosporin and erythromycin interact with statins via the CYP3A4 pathway and by interfering with OAT1B1 a membrane transporter that helps regulate drug influx to the liver. Certain drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, are considered weaker CYP3A4 inhibitors and appear to increase statin rhabdomyolysis risk to a lower degree. Furthermore, grapefruit juice and pomegranate juice inhibit CYP3A4 and have been presumptively linked to statin rhabdomyolysis. In conclusion, statins are the mainstay of lipid lowering therapy, with multiple studies confirming that low density lipoprotein reduction leads to improvements in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
