Analysis Of The Black Cat By Heidi Hanrahan
In Heidi Hanrahan s analysis of The Black Cat, By Edgar Allen Poe, she starts off by claiming that
this story is Poe s commentary on nineteenth century American domesticity (Hanrahan, 40). Hanrahan
then points out that Pluto should be viewed not as a symbol for something deeper, but as what he is in
reality; the narrators pet. She uses excerpts and quotes from texts such as Uncle Tom s Cabin and The
Lamplighter to support her claims that having and Caring for animals, writers argued, helped people
become better children and adults (Hanrahan, 47). In these excerpts and quotes, parents and people
who witnessed someone mistreating an animal either inflicted harm on the abuser or expressed great
sympathy for the defenseless animal. Hanrahan explains that, because we must take care of these
animals and treat them well, we can learn very important moral lessons from them. Ideally, everyone
who owned a pet in the nineteenth century was a person of high morals, therefore, according to
Hanrahan, having a pet was ...a marker of domestic bliss and success. (Hanrahan, 42). Concluding her
analysis, Hanrahan explains that by writing The Black Cat, Poe is responding ...to his fellow
contemporaries celebration of domesticity... Poe does so by dismissing ...the comforting reassurance
of domesticity... by Rejecting the idea that a loving home can ensure stability... (Hanrahan, 53) instead
he shows the side of domesticity that many people do not want to see. Poe s story explains how an
ordinary and normally functioning home can quickly turn into a very calamitous situation.
I believe that during Hanrahan s analysis of The Black Cat, she only scratched the surface of the story
without giving it deeper thought. She states, ...the story resists full explanation or understanding, and
that is precisely what is so disturbing about it... (Hanrahan, 41). Although Hanrahan s analysis covers
the many different angles of domesticity and explains that there is no reason behind the narrator s
actions, she fails to examine the narrators shift in mental state throughout the story. Poe explains the
shift in the narrators mental state as a message to his fellow contemporaries showing the devolution
from domestic sanity to insanity. For

Corporate Governance in Hong Kong
Corporate Governance in Hong Kong 1. Corporate Governance in Hong Kong Hong Kong s position
as an international economic and financial center is attributed to its exemplary corporate governance.
With Hong Kong s various authorities and regulatory bodies emphasizing on transparency and
accountability for listed companies, Hong Kong was ranked first for corporate governance among 11
Asian countries in 2007. (Refer to Appendix 1) The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK) describes
corporate governance as the duties, functions and power of the board of directors as a whole and

Hong Kong complies with The Companies Ordinance (Cap 32), originally derived from the United
Kingdom Companies Act 1948. This provides the basic regulatory infrastructure, addressing corporate
governance issues for all companies. The Committee on the Financial Aspects of Corporate
Governance was set up in May 1991 by the Financial Reporting Council and London Stock Exchange
to address the financial aspects of corporate governance in the United Kingdom. It produced the Code
of Best Practice in UK, which was adopted by SEHK in 1993. The Committee also came up with the
Cadbury Report in 1992, which provided a basis for Hong Kong to adopt certain recommendations
regarding the Board of Directors. For instance: A mixture of executive and non executive directors on
board; seeking of separate professional advice by independent directors; and regular board meetings.
However, some recommendations of the Committee have not been adopted by Hong Kong. For
instance, large companies in Hong Kong are not required to separate the roles of CEO and Chairman.
This is hard to practise due to the family dominated business characteristic. 4.2 Asian Influence As
prevalent in East Asian countries, most listed companies in Hong Kong are family controlled,
resulting in minority shareholders being placed at a disadvantage. To protect the interests of minority
shareholders, SEHK implemented the

A Brief History And Analysis Of Portrayal Of Women Essay

SPC 333
5 December 2016 A Brief History and Analysis of the Portrayal of Women in Magazines Throughout
history women have been depicted and treated as an inferior to the male all aspects of life. It is
without debate, that to this day, like many other countries, the United States of America is a
patriarchal society, valuing men over women and using various tactics to oppress women by
constructing gender roles. These gender roles are thrust upon people before birth and are reinforced
through society within the media. This object here is to provide an overview of the portrayal of
women in magazines from the late 1800 s to present day. As the years progress, so do the number of
women s rights. While women are still fighting for equality, the birth of feminism has done much to
close the gender gap. Mass media, magazines in particular, facilitated in fostering a stereotype which
became the standard, and continues to be, used by society. A society that continues to oppress and
suppress its women. However, as the mass media has the capability to demystify, or to bring down
and/or destroy a particular group or person, they also have the ability of mystification, or emulating a
person or group into society s graces. I plan to review how women were portrayed since this country s
inception with an analysis of how gender equality might be possible today.

Hello. If you are reading this, you are part of the society that has been broken by greed, torn apart by
corruption, and riddled with dishonesty. You are part of a world where the war has destroyed our earth,
and we are the only ones left. In order to restore the peace and rebuild our country, every citizen is
required to read these books: Wouldn t take nothing for my journey now , Holes , and The Hunger
Games. These books will teach important lessons from our past and give hope for our nation s future.

Hopefully this will remind us to never return to our past. By reading this we will be reminded of our
past mistakes so we will be sure to never repeat them. By reading about katniss s bravery, we can
emulate it ourselves. It shows that one person really can make a difference. For example, in the
beginning Katniss was a scared girl and throughout the book you can slowly see her changing into a
fearless leader that is the influence of Panem. This just goes to show that one act of bravery can go a
very long way. In conclusion, these books all teach very different lessons about life that will help
better our society. These lessons of charity, generosity, hope, faith, bravery will save us from the
turmoil we are currently in. Books can heal, inspire hope, and save. That is the ultimate goal of this
project. We were told that books were once very common and saved millions. So if that is true, then
something in these three books has to have the power to save all of us. These books will help rebuild

Essay on Individuality in Korean Art
Individuality in Korean Art
Considering the ancient art of Korea, unfortunately, not much is known. The country of Korea has
been constantly shaped and reshaped by existing civilizations, namely, China. Korea s vulnerability
geographically, has made Korea constantly throughout history open to many influences namely China.
Despite this overwhelming influx of alien influence from China, Korea s art forms indeed had
maintained it s individuality. The Chinese and Korean peoples are very different; ethnically, and
culturally. Therefore, even though Korea did attempt to mimic styles from the Chinese, it still
maintained it s overall individualistic forms. In my paper I would like to emphasize the marked
individuality of Korea. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shamanism, a religion indigenous to the Korean people, was formed thereby influencing early Korean
art, and is to remain influential throughout Korean history up to present history.
Trading with China started at about 100 BC. Up to this time, Korean art remained distinctly different
from its massive neighbor. Korean art reflected or was categorized, prior to Chinese influence, as
Scytho Siberian style. A style that is indigenous in the country of Scythia, near the Black and Aral
Seas). The artifacts consist of small portable metal artifacts made out of metal, such as weapons, horse
fittings, belt buckles, taking on the shape of animals.(3, Moes) Because the early Korean people were
nomadic, their art took on the shape of everyday life, like riding on horses, etc. Korean art had
changed even more by the pushing Hsuing Nu tribes, or the Huns, a Turkish speaking tribe, that
introduced to the Korean people, Iron and Bronze into their daily needs and warfare, and ultimately,
into their art. Then trade started with China and escalated, way into the modern period. One sees
appropriations of Chinese culture and Korean culture. A belt hook, in the shape of a horse, found in Lo
Lang, Korea, typically is hound in China. Here the beginning influence of Chinese art is seen in this
piece. The Chinese civilization in Korea, Lolang, opened the door for the influx o Chinese culture.

King Henry Iv Part 1 Analysis
In the creation of a text the composer s choices relating to the ways in which they construct the text
are used to position the responder towards a desired interpretation. This is particularly evident in texts
concerning people and politics as the composers shaping of the text manipulates the responder to
favour a particular political view or person s perspective. In the play King Henry IV Part One (c.1597)
writer William Shakespeare constructs the text so that the audience conforms to his idea of the rightful
ruler as influenced by his personal and historical context. Similarly, in the television series The
Borgias (2011) created by Neil Jordan the text is constructed so that the audience favours the corrupt
Pope despite his flaws, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This conflict is the result of the opposing views of who is the best option for the next Pope and
therefore what is best for Rome. Della Rovere believes that while Borgia has organising genius the
church more importantly needs honesty, propriety and goodness , all of which he accuses Borgia of
lacking. Both Borgia and della Rovere are corrupt, however, the audience is positioned to support the
Borgia despite his flaws. He is portrayed as the Spanish white Moor and the despised underdog.
However his ambition and determination fuels him to achieve his goals and the audience is positioned
to admire this. This is particularly evident in a scene in the first episode between Borgia and della
Rovere where the two were sat next to each other in a darkened hallway. Della Rovere threatens
Borgia asserting, I shall fight you to the end and beyond if that need be, with any means necessary.
Della Rovere is characterised through the used of lighting, he is shown in shadows and darkness.
Whereas Borgia is illuminated by the opposing window when he says, I do tend to win whatever
battles I fight before symbolically rising above della Rovere. Through this characterisation the
audience is positioned to align with Borgia over della Rovere in this

The Political Crisis Of Crimea
Topic Overview (300 words):
The situation in Crimea is one that is considered to be one of the most complex geo political crisis that
Europe has ever faced. When discussing this topic, the region of Crimea refers to the autonomous
republic within Ukraine which lies on a peninsula from the south of Ukraine, between the Black Sea
and the Sea of Azov.3 It is important to note that the region of Crimea contains a majority of
ethnically Russian population. Although these individuals are still Ukrainian citizens, they (generally)
identify closely with Russia. During this crisis, Ukraine faced the most amount of unrest from citizens
since its independence in 1991.1

retribution, the countries within the UNDP must conjure a solution which does not aggravate Russia to
an unstoppable extent. The Russian Federation has proven to be irrational, and ignorant to
international law, thus, a careful course of action must be taken. Historical Analysis (600 words):
Ukraine and the Soviet Union
On December 20th, 1922, Ukraine and Russia were two of the founding member countries who signed
the union treaty which formally began the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (the USSR.) In the
decades following, many Ukrainians showed discontent with the Soviet Regime 1. This discontent
was rooted due to many different circumstances, an integral one being the man made famine created
by Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union, during his collectivism campaign. In 1932,
approximately 7 million peasants perished, and many blamed the campaign started by the Soviet
Regime. Additionally, Ukrainians were punished severely for any anti government sentiment, and
millions were killed with purposeful starvation. In 1991, Ukraine finally gained its independence after
the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, Russian sentiments regarding its regional supremacy over
areas of Ukraine (such as Crimea) still live on to this day.

Heathcliff is an intricate character in the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. He is a sullen,
bad tempered character, who expresses his own sorrow through the suffering and pain of others. His

the villain and the hero, which is what makes Heathcliff such a distinct and complex character. In this

Heathcliff knows how precious Catherine is and how his life has no meaning without her in his life.
He now understands how [he] was a fool to fancy for a moment that she valued Edgar Linton s

The Effects Of Gun Violence On The United States
In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to over
10,000 gun related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the United
States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to protect
themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can protect
themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily decrease the
amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect themselves. Also,
putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the first place. If a criminal
had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if they knew that they might
possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity and violent crimes will cease to
continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability to protect themselves in dangerous
situations. In areas with high crime rates, certain people are more affected than others, such as
minorities, children, and women. America is facing a continuing epidemic of homicides among young
black males. The number of black homicide victims killed by guns is rising at a sharp rate of fifty four
percent. Studies have shown that consistently there are more black victims than white victims. A
specific study done by the FBI has shown that per 100,000 black lives, 18.07 of people were victims

Creative Writing Of Charlotte Russet
Autumn sunshine warmed the day to a gentle twenty degrees and silvery paths of light wove through
the canopy of russet leaves that crowned the Tree of the Dead. Giant boughs of the hundred year old
plane tree rustled in the breeze, dancing to the melodic strains of the Celtic Farewell. Charlotte
gripped Henry s hand with an intensity that not only calmed him, but made him thankful for a love he
only dreamed was possible. Wooden crutches grazed the tender skin under his arms, but he refused to
sit. Pride prickled his spirit and straightened his spine and as Charlotte s sea blue eyes met his, they
crinkled with love, respect and admiration. Yet, they remained tinged with a hue of sadness that
masked their shared grief. Again, as he stood before the Tree of the Dead, six brief weeks after the loss
of Sam Lannigan, Henry opened his eyes, emerald green and determined, and this time, let silent tears
fall unashamedly down his face. They landed on the crisp blue of his suit and dampened his navy tie
to leave stains not only on his clothing, but etched within his soul. The reach of the Tree stretched far,

The captain did however have the right idea of keeping the civilians clear and distant because in
actuality that amount of people, fifty thousand, would have slowed down any major attempts to do
anything. While both of the leaders had good points they both lacked in one major problem which
many companies, corporations, and governments lack today. They seemed to leave out what was best
for the people. The president had the right idea, but she cared more about saving people then thinking
of an exit strategy, yet the captain had ideas but didn t care about the actual safety of the people. This
subject not only creates controversy in the show, but relates back to the real world and the controversy
between whether or not our government is actually here to help us, or whether they are just here with
their own selfish purposes.
The Story of Battlestar Galactica is a deeply intriguing and sub textual story filled with betrayal and
fear. The show hits heavy with ethics and the weaknesses and strengths that a government can have
when it is thrown into an unknown situation with unknown outcomes. Battlestar Galactica shows the
faults in humanity and can show us, as humans, how to overcome some of those faults.

Comparing Obasan And Naomi s Road
The Differences Between Adults and Children Life is so short, the past so long. Shouldn t we turn the
page and move on? Those are the fascinating words from the famous Canadian writer Joy Kogawa.
Growing up during World War II, surrounded by the Japanese Canadian internment, her life as a little
girl was not the easiest. Her past during that same time period is seen in her two works titled Obasan
and Naomi s Road. Obasan is from the perspective of adult Naomi Nakane whose story is told through
flashbacks and items she comes across. The second work, Naomi s Road, is centered around young
Naomi as she faces the world of discrimination by her country and citizens around her who are in the
name of national security. Both books together express the influence on her life from childhood
journey and the difficultness she experienced while aging. These two books portray the same message,
yet in different methods due to the type of audience Kogawa identifies in each. Obasan is written for
adults, yet Naomi s Road is written for children. Joy Kogawa acknowledges the differences upon
adults and children through the use of her two major works. One of the first topics Kogawa
differentiates is the difference between adults and children s minds. While reading Obasan, I was

Essay Financial Markets Deregulate
Thanks to deregulation technological advances, Financial Markets are all interlinked. Funds can thus
be raised overseas, not only domestically.
Deregulation is the process by which rules and regulations are removed or reduced in order to make
markets increasingly efficient. The rationale behind this is that deregulation will promote
competitiveness, and therefore result in lower prices and a more efficient marketplace.
To realise the effect of deregulation and technological advances on financial markets, we first have to
understand what financial markets are. Basically, a financial market is a mechanism that allows people

With easy accessibility of the Internet, financial information can be disseminated quickly and hence
investors are able to make better informed decisions. This accessibility of information and
deregulation has encouraged foreign investments, and we can see the surge of new financial products
and an increase in financial innovation in the markets today. Stocks can now be dual listed, traded
across markets in two different countries. For example, many large Canadian companies are listed
both on the New York Stock Exchange as well as the Toronto Stock Exchange. There are also
Brazilian based companies listed on both the Brazilian and US stock markets. This adds greater
liquidity to the companies shares traded, and also gives investors more options as to where they can

The reduction of government restrictions has even allowed stock markets to take it one step further.
We hear of the Nasdaq owning 31% of the London Stock Exchange s (LSE) shares and talks of

Answers In Genesis-USA
Answers in Genesis resulted from the merging of two Australian creationist organizations in 1980.
One was founded in the late 1970s by John Mackay, Ken Ham, and others as Creation Science
Educational Media Services. Its founders believed that the established Christian church s teaching of
the Bible was being compromised. The group merged with Carl Wieland s Creation Science
Association in 1980, becoming the Creation Science Foundation (CSF) that later became Answers in
Genesis. In 1987, Ken Ham was seconded by CSF to work for the Institute for Creation Research
(ICR) in the United States, then in 1994 left ICR to found Answers In Genesis USA. Later that year,
CSF in Australia and other countries changed their names to Answers In Genesis so that all the sister
organizations would share the same identity. The branches of AiG remained legally separate, since
they were incorporated in different countries. However, they were still very closely related. For

Labor Unions Today
Labor unions today
Today most labor unions in the United States are members of one of two larger umbrella
organizations: the American Federation of Labor Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL CIO) or
the Change to Win Federation, which split from the AFL CIO in 2005. Both organizations advocate
policies and legislation favorable to workers in the United States and Canada, and take an active role
in Democratic party politics. The AFL CIO is especially concerned with global trade issues.
Private sector union members are tightly regulated by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA),
passed in 1935. The law is overseen by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), part of the
United States Department of Labor. Public sector unions are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It protects the right of workers to engage in any concerted activity for mutual aid or protection. Thus,
no union connection is needed. Concerted activity in its inception involves only a speaker and a
listener, for such activity is an indispensable preliminary step to employee self organization. [4]
Labor Education Programs in the United States
In the US, labor education programs such as the Harvard Trade Union Program created in 1942 by
Harvard University professor John T. Dunlop sought to educate union members to deal with important
contemporary workplace and labor law issues of the day. The Harvard Trade Union Program is now
currently part of a broader initiative at Harvard Law School called the Labor and Worklife Program
that deals with a wide variety of labor and employment issues from union pension investment funds to
the effects of nanotechnology on labor markets and the workplace.
[edit]
Jurisdiction of labor unions
Labor unions use the term jurisdiction to refer to their claims to represent workers who perform a
certain type of work and the right of their members to perform such work. For example, the work of
unloading containerized cargo at United States ports, which both the International Longshore and
Warehouse Union and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have claimed rightfully should be
assigned to workers they represent. A jurisdictional strike is a concerted refusal to work undertaken by
a union to assert its members right to such

U.S. History 1877-1933 Essay
The United States emerged from a virulent, intense, and inhumane civil war and evolved into a new

The Granger Movement, the Greenback Movement, and the Silver Movement were also very
influential in the shaping of present day America. But one of the most important movements in
American history is the business movement, although the rise of business during this time is not called
a movement, I feel that calling it a movement is appropriate. The rise of business and corporations is
very significant because it shaped the American economy and helped lead America to become so
successful. Corporations helped put capital into the economy and promote trade with other countries,
thus strengthening diplomacy. Big businesses and corporations also provide employment. A major
disadvantage of corporations is the possibility of a monopoly forming. This would hurt other small
businesses as well as the economy. Influential leaders of the business movement are Rockefeller,
Carnegie, Morgan, Armour, Hill, and Vanderbilt. Important results of this movement are the increase
of national wealth, increase in standard of living, immigration, urbanization,

The Chocolate War, By Robert Cormier And Harry Potter And...
The purpose of fiction is not solely enjoyment. Fictional works are falsehoods that reveal truths in a
more entertaining fashion than non fiction. The reality is that fiction captures people s attention
beyond simply reading, by illustrating disturbing truths. The mystery is solved by playing with the
reader s emotions, leading them to take a different perspective on the view of the world. Three novels
show how easily individual choices made out of fear can lead to a repressive government like that of
Nazi Germany. The first two novels The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier and Harry Potter and the
Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, act as a warning, to show the dangers of a repressive social
system and how individuals are conforming out of fear in exchange for stability. The end result is a
world with no individuality and free will, represented in Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, the
World State has genetically engineered their population and from the birth are being structured, so
only few are capable of free thought, and then peer pressure and soma keep those in society stability.
The common thought during the 1970s, when The Chocolate War was published, shares logic with
psychological experiments that had been conducted how ordinary people are capable of evil in certain
situations. Psychologist Philip Zimbardo conducted the Stanford Prison Experiment, where normal
college students were randomly assigned to play the role of guard or inmate for two weeks in a

The most dramatic lost is of Stephen own son. Absalom while in Johannesburg is corrupted by his

in the burglary that lead to the death of Arthur Jarvis because he is the only one to admit his mistake
while the other two, one being his cousin, denies any connection. Colonization and the unbearable life
established by whites in South Africa has lead to the lost of family and sense of community. The

the tribal system can be stopped, but not without the help of the whites they must come together with

Are Genetically Modified Foods And Sale Of Gmos
Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In more than 60 countries around the world,
including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant
restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. In the U.S., the government has
approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit
from their sale. Increasingly, Americans are taking matters into their own hands and choosing to opt

The answer to whether they are good or not is: It depends on the situation (Carroll, 2015). There is a
great debate going on right now on the subject of genetically modified foods, or GMOs. For some, the
idea of GMO food is a good one because the modifications allow crops to become resistant to drought
and infestations, letting more people have more regular meals. Some research even shows that the
world produces 17% more food than it needs to produce to provide each current human with three
squares per day (Healthcare Articles and Infographics, 2013)! Others look at genetically modified
foods as a dangerous proposition. From allergic reactions to potential intestinal damage, many people
wish to avoid GMO foods because of animal studies that have shown changes in internal cell
structure, abnormal tumor growth, and unexpected deaths that have occurred (Healthcare Articles and
Infographics, 2013). By 2050, farmers must produce 40% more food to feed an estimated 9 billion
people on the planet. Either current yields will have to increase or farmland will expand farther into
forests and jungles. In some cases, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) would offer an alternative
way to boost yields without sacrificing more land or using more pesticides (Maxmen, 2013). Soy, corn
and cotton are the most common genetically modified crops. In the late 1990s, the agriculture
corporation Monsanto began to sell corn

Why Does Hysteria Occur In The 1800 s
Women have been accused of being hysterical for centuries. Hysteria is defined as a psychoneurotic
disorder characterized by violent emotional outbreaks, disturbances of sensory and motor functions,
and various abnormal effects due to autosuggestion. Hysteria is not a condition that is specific to only
females (Hysteria). Although it is more common among women, men can also become hysterical in
their lifetime. This idea was proposed in the 1800s by a French neurologists named Jean Martin
Charcot. Charcot believed that hysteria was not a sexual disease that was only in women, he
concluded that it was in fact an inherited nervous disorder that affected both sexes (Hysteria). Hysteria

Recent studies suggested that CD4 domain specific monoclonal antibody such as mAb (15A7) and
Ibalizumab have a great revolution in HIV 1 treatment area. The majority of previous mentioned
treatments constitute to either restore the immune response or decline the plasma vireamia, however,
this type of treatment is more likely to interfere with the HIV 1 structure. Before explaining how this
category of drugs works, it is necessary to clarify the reaction between HIV 1 glycoproteins and CD4.
Once the virus enters the body, HIV 1 envelope glycoprotein (gp120) attaches to a cellular CD4
receptor. As CD4/gp120 is formed, it allows gp120 to attache to chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) or CX
chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) allowing gp41, another viral envelope molecule, to insert into the
target cell membrane leading to fusion the viral envelope and cellular membrane (Christopher et al.,
2010). Ibalizumab is CD4 domain 2 monoclonal antibody using as an effective treatment to enhance
the CD4 counts. In a study which set out to determine the antiviral efficacy of Ibalizumab on HIV 1
positive patients not on (ART), (Christopher et al., 2010) found that the CD4 counts increase after one
day of drug initiation even before the viral load decline. This suggested that the rise of CD4 counts is
possibly due to redistribution of CD4 cells from lymphoid tissues rather than regeneration of these
cells. Notably, niegher

The Effect Of Temperature On A Squash Ball
When a ball bounces, the kinetic energy is transformed into elastic potential energy. However, the
transfer of energy is not exactly perfect, as some energy is lost through heat and sound. The coefficient
of restitution is a formula that takes the square root of the ratio of bounce height to drop height. The
result ranges from 0 to 1, where 1 equals a perfect elastic collision.
In this experiment, the effect of temperature on a squash ball was investigated. Various types of squash
balls were subject to different temperatures then dropped from a 2 metre height. A slow motion
capture camera was used to record bounce heights, then the results were carefully analysed and
recorded into the data table. The results showed that as temperature ... Show more content on

It takes the square root of the ratio of bounce height to drop height. The result ranges from 0 to 1,
where 1 indicates a perfect elastic collision.
The coefficient of the restitution is given by the formula: e=√(h_after/h_before ) where h is the height
of the ball
This formula can be used to calculate the coefficient of restitution for all types of balls.
Since it is understood that a warmer ball will bounce higher than a cooler one, then it can be
concluded that temperature affects the coefficient of restitution. This is because the gas molecules
inside the ball expand as temperature increases, causing an increase in the energy of the molecules
bouncing faster inside the ball (Sheehan, 2015). In other words, as temperature increases, so too will
air pressure. Temperature also influences the elasticity of the ball. In physics, elasticity (from the
Greek word, ductible ) is the ability of a body to resist a distorting influence or deforming force and to
return to its original size and shape when that influence or force is removed (Landau, Lipshitz, 1970).
The coefficient of restitution is a helpful formula that measures the elasticity of a substance: the less
energy lost to heat and sound, the higher the coefficient of restitution and the more elastic the
substance.
Rubber elasticity describes the mechanical behavior of many polymers. The polymers of a squash ball
are stretched upon impact for a short

Amendments Of The 14th Amendment
During the period after the Civil War, in the Reconstruction era, the United States adopted three
amendments. These three amendments are the 13th, 14th, and 15th. In 1865, the ratification of the
13th amendment abolished slavery (Berlin). The 14th amendment protects privileges and immunities
from abridgement, assures due process of law prior to deprivations of life, liberty, or property, and
prohibits denials of equal protection of the laws (Steiker). The 15th amendment granted African
American men the right to vote. All three of these amendments, known as the Civil Rights
amendments, gave rights and ensured equality to recently emancipated slaves. The law granted rights
to African Americans and protected them from explicitly race based capital codes (Steiker). African
Americans, although had more rights at this point, were still treated with extreme racial hostility,
especially in the Southern states. The law was complicit, as it still allowed for discriminatory
behavior. In The American Death Penalty and the (In)Visibility of Race, Carol Steiker writes, Race
continued to influence the application of facially neutral capital statutes through prosecutorial
discretion, all white sentencing juries, and the practice of extrajudicial execution by lynch mobs. What
this means is that laws were being created in ways that African Americans would still not receive
equal treatment. In certain circumstances law enforcement officers even handed over blacks to lynch
mobs.

professors to ban laptops in the classroom because he feels they are a distraction. Snyder s arguments
against the use of laptops in classrooms are convincing, but he lacks evidence to support his stance
and he uses emotionally charge wording to sway the reader. One required element of persuasive

One way Snyder does not use logical reasoning is the fact that he uses emotionally charged words.
Snyder uses a variety of emotionally charged words in his article, both positive and negative. The
positively charged words help sway the reader towards his point of view, while the negatively charged
words puts a negative connotation towards the opposing point of view. Snyder states, Meanwhile, we
are losing a long tradition of people learning from other people (166). Traditions are very special and
are passed down generations. Losing these traditions is very disheartening. Therefore, the use of the
word losing has a very negative emotional effect on a reader s attitudes towards the possible loss of
learning happening with laptops present. Another element of logical reasoning is making hasty
generalizations. Snyder states, I would not have the attention of these very gifted students if I did not
ban laptops and smartphones from my classroom (165). This is an example of a hasty generalization.
He is attributing their attention loss to laptops, not giving thought that even without computers, other
factors may play a role in attention loss. Students daydreaming or deep in thought, planning their day

United States Flag Essay
The very first flag for the United States to have was the Grand Union Flag, in the years 1775 1777.
The design of this flag was thirteen red and white stripes, with the red cross of St. Georgia, England
along with the white cross of St. Andrew, Scotland in a blue field. The final split between the between
the colonies and Great Britain brought the removal of the British Union from our flag. Shortly after
came the stars on a blue field. By June 14, 1777 the Flag Resolution was passed, which is now known
as Flag Day. Which basically said that the United States flag had to have thirteen stripes being red and
white; that the union have 13 stars that are white with a blue field. Then, came Francis Hopkinsons

They thought that the stars were taken from the sky, the red was influenced from the British colors,
and the white demonstrated withdrawing from the home country. As for the book Our Flag the white
means purity and innocence, red means hardiness and valour, and blue means vigilance, perseverance,
and justice. The design of the flag however does have a meaning. The stars symbolize the heavens.
Having fifty of the stars, represents the fifty states of the United States today. The stripes symbolize
the rays of sunlight radiating from the sun. Having thirteen of the stripes, represents the thirteen
colonies that proclaimed independence for Great Britain to form the United States. However, the
United States has had many different designs of the flag. With more states being added, it would be
difficult to not create new flag designs. In the year 1795 Vermont and Kentucky were added, which
caused the stars and stripes to raise to 15 instead of 13. In the years 1796 through 1817 the states
Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, and Mississippi joined the United States. Then the Act of April
4, 1818 called for 13 stripes and a star for each state. December in the year 1818 Illinois joined, which

Ministers (Johansen Rosen 20012). This clause is also referred to it as the override power (CRF 2014).

The government who attempts to use this power of the notwithstanding clause has the possibility to be
great scrutiny from the public and government. Nevertheless, threats to invoke the notwithstanding
clause are common as they are seen as a symbol of protecting local cultural values against the
dominance of Ottawa and Central Canada (Canadian Content 2004). Some legal scholars have also
argued that the clause may even become a lapsed power if not used, and will be excluded from use by
the large part of Canada s constitution which is

History Of Campaign Uniforms
The regular soldier had three different uniforms a Campaign Uniform, a Parade Uniform and a Fatigue
Uniform. The government didn t discipline the soldiers like the British army did, so many of the
uniforms were adapted to the commander s preference, the location of the soldier, and materials that
were available in the area. The Service and Campaign uniforms were pretty much the same in a lot of
ways. The headdress was a black felt hat with one side pinned up with an American eagle, which was
the US s coat of arms. The coat was an almost knee length Prussian blue jacket. The rank was worn on
the coat sleeve. The overcoat was a sky blue and took after the french model. Only officers wore
these, they could also choose a dark blue version. All

The Effects Of Sleep Timing, Sleep, And Sleep Duration On...
Abigail Morales Encinas BIO 201L 10/22/2015 Dr. Stephanie Stang The Effects on Sleep
Timing/Quality/Duration on Academic Achievement Abstract: The purpose of this study was to
observe the effects of sleep timing, sleep quality, and sleep duration on academic achievements in
young adults. Those who participated in the study were thirty six Italian seniors in high school. In
order to determine their ideal sleep timing, they each filled out the Morningness Eveningness
Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (MEQ CA). For two non consecutive weeks, students
underwent actigraphy, which is a non invasive method of monitoring human rest and activity cycles.
This was done in a one month period, and was able to assess factors such as: habitual sleep timing
though the midpoint (MS); habitual sleep quality through the parameter of sleep efficiency (SE); and
habitual sleep duration through the parameter of total sleep time (TST) (Tonetti, Fabbri, Filardi,
Martoni, Natale, 2015). At the end of each actigraphic recording week, the students completed the
Mini Sleep Questionnaire, and their school performance were assessed by the grades achieved after
taking final exams. 1. Introduction Circadian preference is the main focus and what is being tested in
this study. People who are morning types and evening types are expressions of human circadian
rhythms and mark the most inter individual differences (Tonetti et al., 2015). From ages up to 10 the
preference usually is morning

University Of Missouri University Incident Analysis
This essay will be a reflection of what the incident was, how it has affected me, what I have learned
from this incident, as well as the way my behavior has changed as a result of the incident and the
University Student Conduct process. Setting the scene the incident happened on April 17, 2017 at 9:55

the letter I was sent are 200.010(C) CONDUCT for which students are subject to sanctions falls into

In order to help my community to grow I will be helping inform people of how inappropriate it is to
commit these violations while telling them to spread the word that way the information is passed
among everyone throughout the whole community of the University of Missouri. Another way my
behavior has changed is I am planning on becoming more involved in the judicial system to make sure
that we are conquering problems within the University s community, and helping people from the
other side of the table. I think this would be the best course of action to make sure that the people in
trouble know that someone on the other side of the table knows what they are going through. Behavior
change is a good thing in my mind because as I continue to grow and develop as a student and a cadet
within Air Force ROTC because I believe making mistakes is how you grow. All while setting an
example for those around me so they do not make the same mistakes I did. My behavior changed
because of the Student Conduct process in a couple ways first was how nervous and scared I was after
receiving the email saying I was in trouble. My mind went to how will this affect my future and will I
be expelled from this, and after receiving the letter with my violations and possible punishment I
became even more scared to be expelled. Setting up the meeting with the Judicial board was different
because the system was something I never saw before and without the directions I would not have
been able to set up the meeting. When I got to the meeting I sat in the office for a little while without
anyone coming up or anyone besides another girl who was there for her meeting, then I waited for my
turn to go and was greeted by four people for the meeting. They asked me about

Essay On The Concept Of Limited Liability And The...
The Concept of Limited Liability and the Christian Worldview.
Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change the
heart, but they can restrain the heartless (Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love, 1963). These
words of Martin Luther King, Jr. speaks volume to the society that we find ourselves. It is very rare to
come across business owners like Frank who wants to do what is right; first of all, by God and
secondly by the laws of the country. According to Henry Cheeseman, a limited liability company is an
unincorporated business entity that combines the most favorable attributes of general partnerships,
limited partnership, and corporations (Business Law: Legal Environment Online Commerce, Business
Ethics, and International Issue). The overall advantages of a limited liability company include
personal liability protection, business liability protection, no ownership restrictions, flexible tax
statues, no separate tax returns, no double taxation and flexible profit distribution. ... Show more

Frank has the right to form any type of business which he desires so far as its in line with the laws of
the state. Now Frank chooses the limited liability company with a lot of advantages. There is nothing
wrong with choosing sometimes that works for us so far as its in line with the law or with the bible if
we are Christians. The problem comes when there us an abuse of the system. Limited Limited
Company has a lot of advantages to the owners. What happens when there is an abuse of those
advantages. One of the protections of limited liability company is asset protection. It will be ethical
wrong to abuse this protection. One way that this protection can be abused is by intentional securing

America a Role in Iraq Essay
America a Role in Iraq
As Afghan opposition groups and U.S. armed forces continue their successes in the war against the
Taliban and al Qaeda, the American debate has quickly turned to the question of where the fight
against terrorism should go next. In numerous public statements, President Bush has talked about a
wide ranging campaign against global terrorism. He has not committed to military operations against
any other countries or terrorist organizations, but he has made it clear that the broader struggle against
terrorism will be a long lasting effort that could include the use of military force in regions beyond
Afghanistan.

policy, it was interpreted by many as a conscious effort to remind the world of the dangers posed by
Saddam and to begin to create a legal and political predicate to justify an eventual American attack
against him. Many overthrow advocates argue that the United States should remove Saddam
regardless of whether Iraq was involved in the September 11 terrorist attacks or not.
Absent compelling evidence of significant Iraqi involvement with the al Qaeda network or the events
of September 11, the likely costs and risks of a commitment of American military forces to a regime
change campaign in Iraq would outweigh the benefits. A U.S. overthrow campaign would entail a
large scale military operation that the United States would probably have to undertake essentially
alone; the increased risk of triggering terrorist attacks against American or allied targets; significant
American casualties given the potential for intense urban combat and Iraqi use of chemical and
biological agents; and the likely need for a long term American military presence in Iraq to avoid
regional destabilization. While these costs and risks are not so high as to rule out a possible overthrow
policy under certain circumstances, they should be sobering to any advocate of sending U.S. troops to
war to change the Iraqi regime. The central assumption behind this argument is that Saddam unlike the
religiously motivated Taliban/al Qaeda network is more interested in

I Will Survive
If you re looking for a science fiction adventure that will not be soon forgotten, a movie that takes a
somewhat realistic how to guide for surviving on an inhospitable planet, or if you just want a movie
that is a blast from liftoff to landing, this movie might just be the best choice. You will not only be
enthralled by the cinematography and special effects, but the acting and the upbeat tone make this
movie truly stellar. Directed by Ridley Scott and based on the book by Andy Weir, the Martian is a
hard science fiction adventure set in the godforsaken Martian landscape. After being injured during a
Martian dust storm, presumed dead and being left behind by his fellow astronauts (played by Jessica

However, as sure as I Will Survive is the main theme of this movie, he retains this childlike optimism
throughout this movie, making wisecracks and jokes throughout the entire film. The acting and
cinematography, as mentioned before, is also stellar. Although it may seem rather dull to some
viewers, I thought Dariusz Wolski made a rather realistic, albeit bland, Martian landscape. Still, the
landscape shots were impressive to say the least. Also, I enjoyed the performances of the actors.
Primarily, I thought Matt Damon s chipper portrayal of the NASA botanist was amazing. Meanwhile,
the rest of the cast was memorable, including Jessica Chastain s character, Captain Lewis. Finally, and
this is perhaps the most well known fact about The Martian, the science in this movie hits the nail on
the head. The details put into this movie, from the technology used for the missions to how he plans to
escape the red deathtrap, shows a level of care for the science part of science fiction. This movie will
blast off into a captivating and thrilling adventure that will take you out of this

Middle-Range Theory
Theory Scope Categorizing the Theory Scope, the first step of theory analysis, involves describing the
abstractness of their theory concepts and propositions. While the scope of the grand theory is
nonspecific, the scope of the middle range theory is more specific and limited. A middle range theory,
additionally, can be classified in terms of descriptive, explanatory, or predictive. Leventhal et al. did
not identify the type of their theory. However, the words and sentences that they mentioned in the
CSM can categorize as a middle range theory. The CSM was proposed to provide the framework for
depicting the self regulation when individuals have to encounter stress caused by an illness and
understanding the processes involved in problem coping. Leventhal et al. described that the CSM
consists of three core concepts: representation of illness, coping, and coping appraisal. The
relationship between the concepts was presented in the parallel processing system that interact as the
individual adapts to each specific situation. These processes lead individuals to seek health care for
acute illnesses and manage their illness for chronic conditions. Additionally, the CSM was used as a
theoretical framework in research and applied in practice, particularly psychological, behavioral, and
nursing fields. The results of study can make possible intervention which would help patients develop
valid coping processes. Consequently, The CSM can be classified as a middle range predictive theory.

Doctors Without Borders Research Paper
UN vs Doctors Without Borders Doctors without borders (founded on December 20th, 1971) and the
UN (founded on October 24th, 1945) are both popular NGO s, but which is better? The secretary
general of the UN is Antonio Guterres, former prime minister of Portugal. The prime minister of
Doctors without borders is Javid Abdelmoneim. NGO stands for non governmental organization. An
NGO is an organization that does specific things to assist people in need without any aid from
governments. Doctors without borders and the UN are just a couple of the millions of NGO s in the
world. There are many ways that the UN and DWB (Doctors without borders) are similar. DWB gives

but not even close to the number that the UN works in. As of today, only 71 countries are eligible to be
worked in by DWB which is not even 50% of the worlds countries. The UN also has multiple goals
they want to accomplish, either short term or long term. Those goals include, maintaining worldwide
peace and security, protecting human rights, deliver humanitarian aid, promote sustainable
development and uphold international law. Conversely, DWB only really has one thing they want to
accomplish. It is to help people recover from life threatening events or sicknesses. Even though the
UN and DWB have around the same percentage of money going toward the program, they have quite
different amounts going to management and general overhead. 7.2% of the money that the UN
receives goes to the administrative. Unlike DWB which gives a mere 1.5% to the management. This is
a good thing because it leaves more money for the program and for fundraising. Another difference is
who can work for the organization. To work for the UN, you need to believe in impartiality, neutrality,
independence and bearing witness. With DWB, you also need to be a skilled medic. This gives fewer
people the opportunity to work for

The Pros And Cons Of Offshore Drilling
Offshore drilling is a topic of extreme debate and argument and one of the most debated parts of that
is whether or not it benefits the economy in the U.S. One of the first things to note is that stopping
offshore drilling could potentially damage the U.S. economy, and therefore how much energy we can
overall use. According to Mason, Joseph R., author of, The Oil Industry Supports Many Louisiana and
Gulf Region Economies , we can see the statement, the moratorium would produce broad economic
losses within the Gulf and throughout the nation as a whole . We can gather, from this, that ceasing
offshore drilling/offshore oil production, could potentially harm the U.S. economy, and as I said
before the economy being damaged overall decides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that argue against the statement that offshore drilling benefits the economy say that the
potential damage from the BP blowout had the costs estimated at $2.2 billion with the highest possible
adjustments, paraphrased from the paper written by Bailey, Ronald, titled Offshore Drilling Remains a
Risk worth Economy . Contrary to what the title states, just by looking at the summary of a passage
from the text, it s clear that offshore drilling can really hurt the economy through damaging the
environment, and that it is not a sound decision to continue because of the chance of a spill. The
second point they argue against is whether or not offshore drilling really lowers energy prices in the
U.S. From the article written by Hassett, Kevin A., titled Offshore Drilling Will Lower Energy Prices ,
a quote from President Barrack Obama is referenced, Offshore drilling would not lower gas prices
today, it would not lower gas prices five years from now. President Barrack Obama. The president
believes that energy prices will not lower because of offshore drilling even in the future. The third and
final point that some would argue against, is offshore

Article 37 Play it safe with these free spin bonus gambling strategies
Depending on your outlook slot games will either be an open delight or a guilty pleasure, but
whichever way you view them there is no denying that the online realm has made such games more
fun than ever. Part of why slots appeal so much is because of the glamorous and often embellished
stories that go along with the games. We have all heard the tall tales of players going all or nothing on
the slots and winning big, but in reality tall tales is often all that these stories are. If you want to be a
major success at online slots you need to understand that you need more than just luck. You need
knowledge and flexibility to really be successful. Thankfully, when it ... Show more content on

The problem is that some casinos and some games are more ruthless than others when it comes to
such. It all means that you should feel comfortable where you re playing and truly understand what
odds and risks lay in front of you.
While there is no denying the game itself and its features will determine how successful you, there are
several elements within yourself you need to consider before you play. Everyone signs up to an online
casino with a bankroll in mind, this means that you need to set your limits before you start wagering.
The easiest way to control your gambling is to set a loss border and a target winning amount . The loss
border relates to how much you can honestly accept to lose when gambling on the slots, while the
target winning amount relates to the amount of money you d be happy to walk way with. Calculate
both figures based of the odds and payouts of the game in question and do your best to stick within
these boundaries. Looking deeper into the games themselves and how they operate, you shouldn t play
under the premises that you are simply waiting on a payout. Online games don t charge up like the old
land based machines used to. Every spin is completely autonomous, which means is doesn t how
much money you plough into the game, the winning percentage will never change.
When it comes to fun, very little else can outdo the exhilaration and excitement of spinning the slots.
Problem is that for all the fun it presents on the

uncertainties were confirmed when he couldn t provide his service to Lizzie by getting her child to eat
the potion he made. Instead of accepting the magic that once graced him was departed and moving on
with his life as a blacksmith, the desire to do what he loved turned what was once good evil. to love
the good, the beautiful is right, but to labor on and will the work when you are obviously beneath this
service is to parody them, twist them beyond recognition, to lay hold of what was once beautiful and
make it a monstrosity. It becomes black magic. (141) Allan did not adhere to the sorcerer s warning
when he expressed to Allan that what he was teaching Allan had no certainty. Allan fascination with
magic and desire to claim it as his own possession caused him to allow his desires to supersede the
knowledge he attained from the sorcerer leaving him with the ultimate decision of good and

Research Paper On Positivism
Positivism essay
At the end of Nick Heather s (1976) chapter on Positivism and psychology he asks three questions
about positivism. In the following essay I am going to explore positivism as well as the attraction of
positivism. I will also look at why human beings are being described for scientific purposes as if they
were things as well as the educational implications of this. Lastly I will look at the benefits of
positivism.
Heather(1976, p12) states that positivism is a position in epistemology. Positivism is based on
empiricism which means that all knowledge or ideas are based on sense experience(Phillips, 2000).
There are two types of positivism. The first type is classical positivism which was developed by
philosopher Auguste ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Positivists believed in the unity of the sciences which includes the natural sciences and the social
science(Hahn, Carnap Neurath, 2001). This unity of science involved the notion that everything on
earth including people could be empirically studied (Hahn et al, 2001). I reiterate that positivism
benefits all those who want to take control of those around them. As mentioned before reinforcement
was seen as a way of controlling and any person who wanted control could use reinforcement as a
method (Skinner, 1968). Reinforcement also allowed you to predict certain behaviours (Skinner,
1968). An example of this could be seen by the elite group for example teachers. It allowed teachers to
be in control and allows teachers to predict that if you use reinforcement in your classroom then you
are guaranteed to get the correct behaviour you want(Skinner, 1968). A teacher may give a child a
sweet for listening in class, which can set an example to the rest of the children as to how they should
be behaving as

  • 2. Analysis Of The Black Cat By Heidi Hanrahan In Heidi Hanrahan s analysis of The Black Cat, By Edgar Allen Poe, she starts off by claiming that this story is Poe s commentary on nineteenth century American domesticity (Hanrahan, 40). Hanrahan then points out that Pluto should be viewed not as a symbol for something deeper, but as what he is in reality; the narrators pet. She uses excerpts and quotes from texts such as Uncle Tom s Cabin and The Lamplighter to support her claims that having and Caring for animals, writers argued, helped people become better children and adults (Hanrahan, 47). In these excerpts and quotes, parents and people who witnessed someone mistreating an animal either inflicted harm on the abuser or expressed great sympathy for the defenseless animal. Hanrahan explains that, because we must take care of these animals and treat them well, we can learn very important moral lessons from them. Ideally, everyone who owned a pet in the nineteenth century was a person of high morals, therefore, according to Hanrahan, having a pet was ...a marker of domestic bliss and success. (Hanrahan, 42). Concluding her analysis, Hanrahan explains that by writing The Black Cat, Poe is responding ...to his fellow contemporaries celebration of domesticity... Poe does so by dismissing ...the comforting reassurance of domesticity... by Rejecting the idea that a loving home can ensure stability... (Hanrahan, 53) instead he shows the side of domesticity that many people do not want to see. Poe s story explains how an ordinary and normally functioning home can quickly turn into a very calamitous situation. I believe that during Hanrahan s analysis of The Black Cat, she only scratched the surface of the story without giving it deeper thought. She states, ...the story resists full explanation or understanding, and that is precisely what is so disturbing about it... (Hanrahan, 41). Although Hanrahan s analysis covers the many different angles of domesticity and explains that there is no reason behind the narrator s actions, she fails to examine the narrators shift in mental state throughout the story. Poe explains the shift in the narrators mental state as a message to his fellow contemporaries showing the devolution from domestic sanity to insanity. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It produced the Code of Best Practice in UK, which was adopted by SEHK in 1993. The Committee also came up with the Cadbury Report in 1992, which provided a basis for Hong Kong to adopt certain recommendations regarding the Board of Directors. For instance: A mixture of executive and non executive directors on board; seeking of separate professional advice by independent directors; and regular board meetings. However, some recommendations of the Committee have not been adopted by Hong Kong. For instance, large companies in Hong Kong are not required to separate the roles of CEO and Chairman. • 5. A Brief History And Analysis Of Portrayal Of Women Essay McNamara 6 Alyssa McNamara Dr. Michael I. Niman SPC 333 5 December 2016 A Brief History and Analysis of the Portrayal of Women in Magazines Throughout history women have been depicted and treated as an inferior to the male all aspects of life. It is without debate, that to this day, like many other countries, the United States of America is a patriarchal society, valuing men over women and using various tactics to oppress women by constructing gender roles. These gender roles are thrust upon people before birth and are reinforced through society within the media. This object here is to provide an overview of the portrayal of women in magazines from the late 1800 s to present day. As the years progress, so do the number of women s rights. While women are still fighting for equality, the birth of feminism has done much to close the gender gap. Mass media, magazines in particular, facilitated in fostering a stereotype which became the standard, and continues to be, used by society. A society that continues to oppress and suppress its women. However, as the mass media has the capability to demystify, or to bring down and/or destroy a particular group or person, they also have the ability of mystification, or emulating a person or group into society s graces. I plan to review how women were portrayed since this country s inception with an analysis of how gender equality might be possible today. This is particularly evident in texts concerning people and politics as the composers shaping of the text manipulates the responder to favour a particular political view or person s perspective. In the play King Henry IV Part One (c.1597) writer William Shakespeare constructs the text so that the audience conforms to his idea of the rightful ruler as influenced by his personal and historical context. In the decades following, many Ukrainians showed discontent with the Soviet Regime 1. This discontent was rooted due to many different circumstances, an integral one being the man made famine created by Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union, during his collectivism campaign. In 1932, approximately 7 million peasants perished, and many blamed the campaign started by the Soviet Regime. Additionally, Ukrainians were punished severely for any anti government sentiment, and millions were killed with purposeful starvation. • 12. The Effects Of Gun Violence On The United States In the United States, over the past few decades, gun violence has increased massively, leading to over 10,000 gun related incidents in 2015. The main cause of the massive amount of violence in the United States in recent decades is mainly because people who are in danger have no means to protect themselves. This is why guns should be more accessible for citizens, so that they can protect themselves in dangerous situations. Allowing citizens to conceal weapons would heavily decrease the amount of incidents that occur because innocent people were unable to protect themselves. Also, putting less control on guns would prevent crimes from even happening in the first place. If a criminal had intentions of committing a crime, they would be much less willing if they knew that they might possibly get shot trying to commit that crime. Thus, criminal activity and violent crimes will cease to continue at such high rates and more people will have the ability to protect themselves in dangerous situations. In areas with high crime rates, certain people are more affected than others, such as minorities, children, and women. America is facing a continuing epidemic of homicides among young black males. The number of black homicide victims killed by guns is rising at a sharp rate of fifty four percent. Studies have shown that consistently there are more black victims than white victims. Creative Writing Of Charlotte Russet Autumn sunshine warmed the day to a gentle twenty degrees and silvery paths of light wove through the canopy of russet leaves that crowned the Tree of the Dead. Giant boughs of the hundred year old plane tree rustled in the breeze, dancing to the melodic strains of the Celtic Farewell. Charlotte gripped Henry s hand with an intensity that not only calmed him, but made him thankful for a love he only dreamed was possible. Wooden crutches grazed the tender skin under his arms, but he refused to sit. Pride prickled his spirit and straightened his spine and as Charlotte s sea blue eyes met his, they crinkled with love, respect and admiration. Yet, they remained tinged with a hue of sadness that masked their shared grief. Again, as he stood before the Tree of the Dead, six brief weeks after the loss of Sam Lannigan, Henry opened his eyes, emerald green and determined, and this time, let silent tears fall unashamedly down his face. Those are the fascinating words from the famous Canadian writer Joy Kogawa. Growing up during World War II, surrounded by the Japanese Canadian internment, her life as a little girl was not the easiest. Her past during that same time period is seen in her two works titled Obasan and Naomi s Road. Obasan is from the perspective of adult Naomi Nakane whose story is told through flashbacks and items she comes across. Fictional works are falsehoods that reveal truths in a more entertaining fashion than non fiction. The reality is that fiction captures people s attention beyond simply reading, by illustrating disturbing truths. The mystery is solved by playing with the reader s emotions, leading them to take a different perspective on the view of the world. Three novels show how easily individual choices made out of fear can lead to a repressive government like that of Nazi Germany. Before explaining how this category of drugs works, it is necessary to clarify the reaction between HIV 1 glycoproteins and CD4. Once the virus enters the body, HIV 1 envelope glycoprotein (gp120) attaches to a cellular CD4 receptor. The coefficient of the restitution is given by the formula: e=√(h_after/h_before ) where h is the height of the ball This formula can be used to calculate the coefficient of restitution for all types of balls. Since it is understood that a warmer ball will bounce higher than a cooler one, then it can be concluded that temperature affects the coefficient of restitution. This is because the gas molecules inside the ball expand as temperature increases, causing an increase in the energy of the molecules bouncing faster inside the ball (Sheehan, 2015). In other words, as temperature increases, so too will air pressure. Temperature also influences the elasticity of the ball. In physics, elasticity (from the Greek word, ductible ) is the ability of a body to resist a distorting influence or deforming force and to return to its original size and shape when that influence or force is removed (Landau, Lipshitz, 1970). The coefficient of restitution is a helpful formula that measures the elasticity of a substance: the less energy lost to heat and sound, the higher the coefficient of restitution and the more elastic the substance. Rubber elasticity describes the mechanical behavior of many polymers. The polymers of a squash ball are stretched upon impact for a short ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Amendments Of The 14th Amendment During the period after the Civil War, in the Reconstruction era, the United States adopted three amendments. These three amendments are the 13th, 14th, and 15th. In 1865, the ratification of the 13th amendment abolished slavery (Berlin). The 14th amendment protects privileges and immunities from abridgement, assures due process of law prior to deprivations of life, liberty, or property, and prohibits denials of equal protection of the laws (Steiker). The 15th amendment granted African American men the right to vote. All three of these amendments, known as the Civil Rights amendments, gave rights and ensured equality to recently emancipated slaves. The law granted rights to African Americans and protected them from explicitly race based capital codes (Steiker). African Americans, although had more rights at this point, were still treated with extreme racial hostility, especially in the Southern states. The law was complicit, as it still allowed for discriminatory behavior. In The American Death Penalty and the (In)Visibility of Race, Carol Steiker writes, Race continued to influence the application of facially neutral capital statutes through prosecutorial discretion, all white sentencing juries, and the practice of extrajudicial execution by lynch mobs. What this means is that laws were being created in ways that African Americans would still not receive equal treatment. In certain circumstances law enforcement officers even handed over blacks to lynch mobs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His purpose in writing this article was to persuade professors to ban laptops in the classroom because he feels they are a distraction. Snyder s arguments against the use of laptops in classrooms are convincing, but he lacks evidence to support his stance and he uses emotionally charge wording to sway the reader. Snyder states, Meanwhile, we are losing a long tradition of people learning from other people (166). Traditions are very special and are passed down generations. Losing these traditions is very disheartening. Therefore, the use of the word losing has a very negative emotional effect on a reader s attitudes towards the possible loss of learning happening with laptops present. Another element of logical reasoning is making hasty generalizations. The stars symbolize the heavens. Having fifty of the stars, represents the fifty states of the United States today. The stripes symbolize the rays of sunlight radiating from the sun. Those who participated in the study were thirty six Italian seniors in high school. In order to determine their ideal sleep timing, they each filled out the Morningness Eveningness Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (MEQ CA). For two non consecutive weeks, students underwent actigraphy, which is a non invasive method of monitoring human rest and activity cycles. This was done in a one month period, and was able to assess factors such as: habitual sleep timing though the midpoint (MS); habitual sleep quality through the parameter of sleep efficiency (SE); and habitual sleep duration through the parameter of total sleep time (TST) (Tonetti, Fabbri, Filardi, Martoni, Natale, 2015). At the end of each actigraphic recording week, the students completed the Mini Sleep Questionnaire, and their school performance were assessed by the grades achieved after taking final exams. 1. Many overthrow advocates argue that the United States should remove Saddam regardless of whether Iraq was involved in the September 11 terrorist attacks or not. Absent compelling evidence of significant Iraqi involvement with the al Qaeda network or the events of September 11, the likely costs and risks of a commitment of American military forces to a regime change campaign in Iraq would outweigh the benefits. A U.S. overthrow campaign would entail a large scale military operation that the United States would probably have to undertake essentially alone; the increased risk of triggering terrorist attacks against American or allied targets; significant American casualties given the potential for intense urban combat and Iraqi use of chemical and biological agents; and the likely need for a long term American military presence in Iraq to avoid regional destabilization. While these costs and risks are not so high as to rule out a possible overthrow policy under certain circumstances, they should be sobering to any advocate of sending U.S. troops to war to change the Iraqi regime. While the scope of the grand theory is nonspecific, the scope of the middle range theory is more specific and limited. A middle range theory, additionally, can be classified in terms of descriptive, explanatory, or predictive. Leventhal et al. did not identify the type of their theory. The CSM was proposed to provide the framework for depicting the self regulation when individuals have to encounter stress caused by an illness and understanding the processes involved in problem coping. Leventhal et al. described that the CSM consists of three core concepts: representation of illness, coping, and coping appraisal. The relationship between the concepts was presented in the parallel processing system that interact as the individual adapts to each specific situation. These processes lead individuals to seek health care for acute illnesses and manage their illness for chronic conditions. In the following essay I am going to explore positivism as well as the attraction of positivism.
