Examples Of Liminality In Bildungsroman
Amy Gaffney, 14734045ENG10090Coming of Age Final Essay Whether orphans or
adventurers, many characters in the course texts have a troubled relation to home and society.
Comparing two texts, consider the representation of outsider figures. On the Outside Looking
in: Liminality in Bildungsroman To be liminal is, according to the Oxford English Dictionary in
a cultural anthropologic sense of or relating to a transitional or intermediate state between
culturally defined stages of a person s life, especially as marked by a ritual or rite of passage;
characterized by liminality. Being liminal can also be seen as being the outsider, the threat to
what is considered the norm. According to Giddens, norms are rules of behaviour that reflect or
embody a culture s value, either prescribing a given type of behaviour or forbidding it. (1065).
These norms operating within a society can be either explicit or implicit. Transgressing norms can
be seen as a deviance, however, deviating from the norm may yield both negative and positive
results. In many bildungsroman liminality is essential to the characters development. Philip
Pullman s Northern Lights and Jeanette Winterson s Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, in which both
the main characters of Lyra and Jeanette respectively are of a liminal nature,... Show more content

and I could go to missionary school. (Winterson, 56). She understands that she will never be
accepted into school society, and concretes her future liminality by knowing that missionary school
is her destiny. Her mother s advice that We are called to be apart, (Winterson, 56) further highlights

Why Do Wes Moore Make Bad Decisions
Estefani Magana

Decisions that Changed their Lives Forever Wes and the other Wes Moore both made poor
decisions at a young age, but only one was able to change for the better. The Other Wes Moore is
a book written by Wes Moore about two men with the same name living very different lives. Both
Wes Moores have a lot in common, both didn t have a father growing up, their mothers worked
multiple jobs to give their families a better life, and both grew up in bad neighborhoods. I believe
that both live drastically different lives because the other Wes Moore made poor decisions and Wes
didn t. I understand that not having a father figure growing up, not having their mothers around all
the time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wes was also doing very poorly in school, his grades where very low and the teachers would tell
his mother that he had a learning disability, but the real reason why he was doing so poorly was
because he wasn t showing up to class most of the time. Wes had made the decision to only go to
class twice a week. Wes Moore states, Some days I would check into homeroom; other days I d
head directly back to the train and return to the neighborhood, where I d meet up with one of the
guys who had a similar arrangement (77). If Wes had made better decisions while attending
Riverdale his mother would have never sent him to Valley Forge. Since Valley Forge was such a
big impact on his life, by not being sent there he would of probably never have gone to Johns
Hopkins and wouldn t have traveled to South Africa. In my opinion by attending Valley Forge Wes
was able to change his life for the better. If Wes had ever decided to actually go through with his
plan and escape Valley Forge and go home he would have a very different life. It was Wes s
decision to join sports, clubs and do well in his academics. If he wouldn t have done so he would of
probably been dropped from Valley Forge and be forced to go back home. Valley Forge was a huge
impact on his life because it taught him how to fully prepare for his responsibilities as an adult, to

Hidden Meaning In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Most believe that the theme of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is if one s astrology
signs do not match up then they not ment to be together. Although, what most fail to realize is
that Shakespeare has a hidden meaning cleverly masked by the thought of Romeo and Juliet
being Star Crossed lovers controlled by fate and destiny. Then, when one takes a deeper look at
the play it reveals a very different meaning. Shakespeare s hidden meaning is all about human
condition. Romeo and Juliet is hinged around two star crossed lovers, whose affections are cruelly
ripped apart by their parents long lasting feud. The play is structured so that the ending is
inevitable, and all of the outcomes in the play are due to the characters human conditions and the
effect of others playing into the tragic ending. Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is far more about the
nature of hating thy neighbor rather than loving thy neighbor, though... Show more content on

characters share one of the same personal characteristics that is exhibited in all different forms. This
characteristic is the same emotion that Shakespeare has hidden, hostility.
Tybalt s fiery conduct and use of weapons, plays a major role in the death of Romeo and Juliet.

The Poisonwood Bible Essay
People in some societies have faced situations that changed them in unique ways. The Poisonwood
Bible written by Barbara Kingsolver represents how people are affected by horrific events and
different cultures. This is caused by the missionary father; Nathan having led his family to spread
their own beliefs in the Congo. In return, each Price woman is influenced in unique ways,
according to their own perspectives. Unique ways is included in how transformations were due to

Develop Bangkok as creative tourism product to meet the needs and expectations of foreign visitors
and new activities to local communities in order to improve domestic visitors experience
BACKGROUND CONTEXT Culture is a main pull factor which influences visitors to travel to
destinations in different parts of the world (Akama Sterry 2000). In most regions, particularly in
world leading metropolis, cultural attractions have become important in their tourism development.
At the global level, cultural attractions are usually perceived as icons of main streams of global
culture which attracts millions of tourists annually (Richards, 2001). Implication for Bangkok
In this proposed plan, some of definitions will be used to address the potential future development
of emerging tourism in Bangkok.
Creative tourism has been defined by Richards and Raymond (2000) as:
Tourism which offers visitors the opportunity to develop their creative potential through active
participation in courses and learning experiences which are characteristic of the holiday destination
where they are undertaken.

Hysterectomy Research Paper
Hysterectomy May Be the Solution When Alternatives Have Failed
A hysterectomy is a medical procedure to remove part or all of the womb. It is an operation to treat
a number of female uterine problems that did not respond to other medical treatments. The main
non cancerous issues treated with a hysterectomy are uterine fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding,
constant pelvic pain, cervical dysplasia, and uterine prolapse. After a physical examination and
diagnosis of your individual symptoms and overall medical history, your Glendora General
Surgeon will discuss your surgical options and make a recommendation for the best procedure for
you.
TYPES OF HYSTERECTOMIES
There are several surgical procedures that the surgeon will consider. While all hysterectomies
involve the removal of a portion or all of the uterus, they do not always require the removal of the
ovaries or the cervix. The most typical procedures are:
Supracervical (Partial) Hysterectomy: The cervix is left in place while the upper area of the uterus
is removed.
Total Hysterectomy: Both the cervix and uterus are removed.
Total Hysterectomy and Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy: The cervix, uterus, ovaries, and
fallopian tubes are removed.

What Role Do The Three Witches Play In Macbeth
The three witches are seen as the mischief making characters in Shakespeare s Macbeth. Macbeth
and Banquo first come into contact with the witches at a health near the Forres. The three witches
then proceeded into welcoming and hailing Macbeth after predicting he will become king chanting
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!
All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter . The prediction the three witchesmake about
Macbeth becoming king bring him an overwhelming feeling of joy and determination, from then on
the three witches gain control over Macbeth and take advantage of his innocent characteristics and
consistently manipulate him into conducting many crimes in which he commits. They always play
a secondary role in each of Macbeth s inferior actions. The three witches influence Macbeth s
actions throughout the play by constantly planting ideas into his head about becoming king and

prophecy after stating Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none, so all hail Macbeth and Banquo!
Macbeth believes that Banquo will hinder his progress to becoming king and prevent him from
achieving such a position because of the witches prophecy. In Act three, Scene four Macbeth sets
out on the murder of Banquo and his son Fleance. Macbeth hires two murders to execute both men.
As the two murders set out on their assassination it is not long before they have murdered Banquo,

Heraclitus Ethos Pathos And Logos
Seetha Aribindi
Heraclitus was one of the natural philosophers from Ephesus in Asia Minor, circa 540 480 B.C. ,
who believed that constant change or flow was the basic characteristic of nature. He believed
the world was characterized by opposites and it would cease to exist without their constant
interplay. God is day and night, winter and summer, war and peace, hunger and satiety, he said,
believing God can be seen most clearly in constant transformations and contrasts in nature. (p 28)
But instead of God he used the greek word logos which means reason, as he believed that there
must be a kind of universal reason or universal law guiding everybody and everything that
happens in nature. Thus amid constant flux and opposites throughout nature, Heraclitus believed
an Entity or one ness , called God or logos was the source of everything. Aristotle, the last of the

Antimicrobial and Other Therapeutic Properties of Spices
Spices are natural compounds derived from different parts of a plant which are commonly used as
flavoring, aroma and preservatives. The essential oil content and oleoresins present in the spices
have given them the flavoring and aroma. In addition, the essential oil can also act as a natural
preservative in foods (Ceylan and Fung, 2004). Other than flavoring, aroma and preservatives,
spices have many therapeutic properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, chemopreventive and
antifungal. The antimicrobial properties of spices have led to the development of plant origin
antibiotics so as to overcome the antibiotic resistant problems. In addition, the anticancer,

Dietary flavines and flavones exert their effects on signal transduction enzymes such as protein
tyrosine and focal adhesion kinases present on the cell surface, causing them to act as an
effective anticancer agents. Carcinogenesis of various organs can be suppressed by
phytochemicals obtained in spices, for example carotenoids, phenolic compounds and terpenoids
(Kochhar, 2008). 1.3 SPICES AS ANTIOXIDANT AGENTS Endogenous antioxidants present in
spices are known to exert antioxidant properties against oxidative stress. In addition, the presence
of phenolic content such as phenolic acids and flavonoids allow spices to act as natural food
preservatives, preventing the deterioration of food during processing and storage. Studies showed
that phenolics can interact with a wide spectrum of molecular targets central, including mitogen
activated protein kinase (MAPK), protein kinase C (PKC), serine/threonine protein kinase, phase

Michael Bruce s A Man Of Logic
Bruce had always preferred wandering to the confines of four walls. Although, if SHEILD had
their way, General Ross in particular, he would ve been imprisoned a long time ago. Somewhere
where the sun doesn t shine. Locked away, and probably left to rot, in one of SHIELD s many
undisclosed correctional facilities. But there was something to be said about sleeping beneath
the stars. To be reminded how insignificant you really were. A man of logic, philosophy had
never been a fascination for Bruce. His mind prone to working out problems from a scientific
standpoint than an emotional one. But left with time to spare over the years, Bruce came to
realize how ironic his life has been. At how better off the world would have been if his father had
succeeded in killing him all those years ago. Bruce deserved nothing less than the cave he caged
himself in. Spending a great deal with himself had left Dr. Banner questioning his existence, more
so in the light of recent events. And already in a struggle for his own identity, philosophy only
twisted his sense of insignificancy.
So it didn t seem possible that he d ever seen the stars again.
Self exile didn t stem from just one reason, but a number of them. Each one weaving in and out of
Banner s thoughts until he felt control slipping through his grasp. The Scarlet Witch had done more

Beware Of DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate) In Nail Polish Products Nail polish products are rampant with
toxic chemicals which are harmful to human life. Dibutyl phthalate is a frequent chemical found
in many nail enamels and is part of what is called the toxic trio. This term refers to the three most
harmful chemicals found in many popular nail polish brands today. These toxic substances are
toluene, formaldehyde (methanal) and DBP (dibutyl phthalate). This article addresses the dangers
of dibutyl phthalate. What is DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate)? DBP is short for dibutyl phthalate. This
substance is a chemical which has a plastic nature. DBP is often used in nail enamels to keep the

Ecological Changes In Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Populations...
Introduction:
Although Colorado s growing population may be beneficial for the economy and social standings
in our country, it poses some ecological concerns. According to the Colorado State Demography
Office, Colorado s population has grown by nearly 75% since 1985 (Figure 1). In fact, Larimer
County s population has doubled in that same time period. It has become evident that changes in
Colorado s landscape have been altered due to this population boom. It is within our best interest to
evaluate the ecological concerns associated with such anthropogenic disturbances, specifically
along the Front Range of Larimer County. By observing and sampling areas where black tailed

They have traditionally been viewed as competitors with cattle for rangeland resources, so
eradication programs have reduced populations to less than two percent of those several decades
ago (Whicker and Detling 1988). The Colorado Parks and Wildlife have now deemed this keystone
species as a species of concern due to sylvatic plague, direct loss of habitat to urban/suburban
development, habitat fragmentation, conversion of habitat to agricultural uses, systematic
poisoning, recreational shooting, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. Our biggest concerns are
focused on habitat loss and fragmentation and systematic poisoning and how they connect to
Colorado s growth in population.
The grasslands along the Front Range are primarily inhabited by native grasses including, needle
and thread grass (Stipa comata) and blue gramma grass (Bouteloua gracilis), as part of the
primary producers of the ecosystem. In areas where prairie dogs are present, native grass
populations decline at a rather quick rate and are often low in richness, evenness, and diversity
(Beals et al. 2014). We will look at how this affects the rest of the grassland ecosystem and
changes it where trophic efficiency is concerned. Prairie dogs are useful for trophic efficiency
because they help maintain the growth of primary producers in the grasslands.

The Accuracy Of Banduray In Sports
The accuracy of a person can be improved by playing video games that involves shooting and
aiming at other objects. Shooting in a game is similar to shooting or throwing objects in real
life. It takes predictions and precision. Not only in video games, but accuracy is a very important
key factor in many sports as well. For example, soccer requires aiming the ball at a certain angle
or direction to pass it to another player. (Frankl, 2000) This compares to the weapon shooting a
bullet at a certain angle or direction in order to snipe another playing running or jumping. A group
of participants helped with a study at the Ohio State University to test whether shooting games
helped improve a player s accuracy in real life shooting. In this experiment,... Show more content on

For example, sports are one way these skills can be applied to action. In soccer, you aim the ball
and kick it to whatever spot you want it to go, but that requires the ability of aiming. (Frankl,
2000) In darts, you aim the throwing dart using the mechanics vertical or horizontal aim to land it
closer to the center of the dartboard. (Burger, J) Why accuracy is an important skill to society,
especially for policemen, soldiers, firefighters, etc, is because it helps with their responsibilities.
The new training with First Person Shooter game can be a new method to improving their
accuracy for their jobs. However, there are negative uses with this skill such as shooting to kill

Essay on Congenital Neonatal Infections in Vertical HIV
Congenital Human Immunodeficiency Virus, also called Vertical HIV, is a serious epidemic
arising from passage of the virus to an infant from a maternal infection. The disease can have
severe symptoms for the infected newborn and is almost always fatal to the child. The fetus has a
25% chance of infection while in utero and a 20% 50% ( depending of the country) chance of
infection during the birthing process although a cesarean birth significantly lowers the probability
of neonatal infection. The severity of the mothers HIVinfection determines the chances of a fetal
infection meaning the more advance the disease in the mother the high the possibility of

The juxtapositional co receptor attachment to the host membrane encourages the GP41 protein to
initiate fusion by collapsing into a hairpin loop structure bringing the two membranes in close
proximity. The virus then injects the contents of the virion including machinery enzymes and the
RNA genome into the host cell where a dsDNA molecule is made and integrated into the host.
The reverse transcription process has a high mutation rate because the viral reverse transcriptase
enzyme is unable to detect or repair any mistakes as it forms the dsDNA. After the new dsDNA
molecule is made it is transported to the nucleus of the host and integrated into the host genome.
The HIV genome will either remain in a lysogenic state within the host or if actively stimulated
new HIV viruses will be constructed and released to infect neighboring cells. The ability of the
virus to choose its co receptor is called viral tropism and determines its virulence and disease
progression rate. If the virus binds with the co receptor CCR5 it is called macrophage tropic (M
tropic) and characterizes most HIV infections. The M tropic variant is regarded as less virulent
because it is nonsyncytial. Some mutations of the CCR5 gene lead to a partial immunity to the
virus and can slow the disease and in some cases prevent infection of the M tropic HIV varient.
Also patients with high levels of CCR5 soluble chemokines are more resistant to the virus. The
CXCR4 chemokine co receptor is

beliefs can fade. Patrias faith was all she had to begin with, but was barely there in the end.
Patrias faith was so strong that her family considered her a spirit baby before she could even

his choices. Every thing in the world is perfect and the way god planned in Patrias eyes at this

Developing Your Professional Identity Is Good For Any...
Developing your Professional Identity
An effective professional identity is good for any profession, especially a counseling profession.
When a person develops a professional identity it says who they are and what they stand for in that
profession. It also says they know about that profession and could tell another anything they would
like to know about that profession. When a person knows about there profession they can answer
any questions they have about that profession.
In this paper the author will discuss the difference between two of the specializations of the
counseling discipline. Then this paper will discuss how to use the terms wellness, resilience, and
prevention in a counseling discipline. In this paper the author will discuss how the licensure plays a
role in being a counselor. This paper will also discuss the issues of, how certain associations can
help ones professional identity, how to continue the professional development of counselors, and
how technology can play an impact on the counseling profession.
Differences in Two Counseling Specializations The first specialization this author would like to
discuss is mental health counseling (MHC). MHC is a specialization that stresses: developmental,
preventive, and educational as well as remedial aspects of mental health care (Smith Robinson,
1995, p. 158). Some also consider this profession a hybrid and it has an uncomfortable connection
between the professions of psychology and educational counseling.

Character Analysis Of Anne Of The Island
Anne of the Island, by L. M. Montgomery is a story about Anne Shirley going off to college, and
deciding who she was going to marry. The story is primarily set in Kingsport, the town around her
college, and Green Gables, her childhood home, during a time frame when it was very important
for girls to get married. Anne is the main character, but there are several additional key characters
in the story including: Marilla, her mother figure, who adopted Anne when she was eleven years
old; Charlie Sloane, who desperately wanted Anne to notice him; Gilbert Blythe, Anne s old school
friend, who came to college with her to become a doctor; and Royal Gardener, also known as
Roy, who became close friends with her while she was at college. When Anne first arrived at
Redmond College, she was thankful to have her friends at her side, especially Prissy Grant.
Prissy thankfully knew her way around town, and as she and Anne started to look around the
city, they made a new friend, Philippa Gordon. Phillipa couldn t make up her mind on anything,
except that she was going to marry someone wealthy to support her extravagant life style.
Philippa had good intentions, and though she was slightly annoying at times, Anne immediately
befriended her. When Anne was home for summer break, she received her first proposal, from
Billy Andrews, whom she didn t even know that well. Anne declined as politely as possible. It
wasn t long before her next proposal came along, this time from Charlie Sloane. Anne had never
liked Charlie Sloane that much, and again she refused as politely as she could. Soon, Anne
received her next proposal, which was from Gilbert Blythe, and that was a morning she d never
forget. Up until that point Anne and Gilbert had been great friends, but Anne didn t believe she
truly loved him. Anne was heartbroken when she found that she must refuse him. She once again
declined as politely as she could, but Gilbert was heartbroken. Anne begged him not change
anything because of her refusal, but Gilbert knew that things could never be the same again after
that, and he told her so. Anne too was heartbroken over losing a good friend, and she was
beginning to wonder if that was all she d lost. Time passed, and Anne was

The Stimulus Of The Words
In Jabberwocky the stimulus of the words in context activates thought and the ability to recognize
known structures in memory. The context and the placement of the words in sentences allow us to
make assumptions about grammatical structure. We determine how a particular word functions in
that sentence, i.e., an adjective, verb, adverb, etc. And the words placement within the sentence
helps to reveal meaning. ( Sukar Ray ) Lewis Carroll makes up words that tell a story, when
strewn together in patterns that mimic known grammatical structures. Here, no one to one
relationship between word and referent exists in the world, but it very much feels as if it does
because of the context in which the poem is set. It is also an example of how closely related the
concept of musical metaphor is with poetic metaphor. In his book Bernstein describes the three
metaphors used in music: As concisely as possible, this is it: music has intrinsic meaning of its
own, which are not to be confused with specific feelings or moods, and certainly not with pictorial
impressions or stories. These intrinsic musical meanings are generated by a constant stream of
metaphors, all of which are forms of poetic transformations. (131) Bernstein seeks to prove that
music has intrinsic, extrinsic and analogical meaning much the same way language does for non
musical meanings. But the exploration can be turned inside out so that we might say that Carroll in
his quirky sounds and made up strange

Sedentary Changes In The Neolithic Period
Mesolithic period marked the beginning of Holocene inducing simultaneous climatic changes
which led to proliferation of flora and fauna. This inherently led to the increased availability of
resources to man, hence creating a change in the economy. Substantial changes in lifestyle were
observed as a form of survival strategy which primarily promoted localization, halting locomotion.
The progression of evolutionary changes in anatomy and physiology equipped man to enjoy
privileges like full hand and thumb grip, larger cranial capacity that inherently influenced other
inter dependent bodily functions. His emotions cultivated social cohesions forming personal and
societal bonds. This further accentuated the evolution of burial ground and practises... Show more

As a result interpersonal relationships were developed to consolidate a form of cooperative
existence. The burials dated to this period are more structured and sophisticated than those in
Mesolithic indicating the advancement of culture and religion. The way man built pits and other
structures proves his advancement from the previous period. Neolithic period is also the origin of
animal burial along with man. It only confirms that man became more attached to the environment
meanwhile formulating various emotions. He would bury the dead near his habitation and built
separate cemeteries and structured graves to dispose off the dead stipulating his respect for the
dead. Neolithic period holds evidence of childrens bones stored in jars showing the increased
complexity of man and his emotions. Man was more concerned about the dead .The Mesolithic
period included simpler burials than those in Neolithic, demonstrating that man was still adapting
and his emotions were still enhancing. The continued usage of red ochre indicates that its symbolic
value was probably passed down through generations. The features of these burials reveal that both
Mesolithic and Neolithic man believed in some form of

relationship with a female coworker that went south. Later in the year, Ted Kaczynski created his

Examples Of Conflict In The Chrysalids
One can encounter several physical and emotional difficulties in the journey to protect their
identity. Similarly, in The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, as a result of wanting to preserve
identity, in the form of risks, major sacrifices surface between characters. These sacrifices tend
to result in breaking moral laws, letting go of family ties and death. The motives of the sacrifices
come from the society of Waknuk. People in this society learn not to accept individuals with
physical deformations since they are sent by the Devil. Due to fear, most people abide by the laws
but, are quick to bend them in order to preserve their sense of self. Therefore, the novel The

For instance, over the course of many years, Mrs. Wender keeps Sophie hidden to protect her
secret. Any individual with a physical deformation in Waknuk is considered an outlaw, and to
prevent losing her child; Mrs. Wender does not let Sophie out in public. The importance of
protecting Sophie is seen when Mrs. Wender says, It s very, very important, she insisted. How
can I explain to you? But she didn t really need to explain. Her urgent tight strung feeling of the
importance was very plain. Her words were far less potent. She said: If anyone were to find out,
they d they d be terribly unkind to her (Wyndham 12). Mrs. Wender disobeys the moral laws of
Waknuk to protect her daughter, which is different from what most individuals in her society
would do in this situation. This introduces situational irony because unlike others in Waknuk,
Mrs. Wender first cares for her family and that is highly unexpected. She took a great risk to keep
her daughter unknown for several years because she has six toes which is a physical deformation.
If Waknuk authorities realize Mrs. Wender s daughter is a mutant she could be punished and
tortured for not only connecting with a mutant but disobeying the society s laws. Coincidentally, in
the process of protecting Sophie, Mrs. Wender preserves her sense of self because she wants to
keep those who fit her definition of the true

Chinese Air Pollution
History of Air Pollution in China
During the 1980s, China underwent a series of industrial changes leading to severe air pollution
(Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen,
Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). As industries in large cities expanded,
the resources required to manufacture goods produced pollution in the air (Chen, Ebenstein,
Greenstone, Li, 2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song,
Zhao, Chen, 2007; Schmidt, Olicker, 2004). Over the years China continues to be one of the top
manufactures in the world, making industries increase their revenue demands. Although this change
has assisted in China s economic development and growth, it has also damaged the environment
these individuals live in. Industries in China have no mandatory rules and regulations that forces
companies to control what is released into the air. Thus, greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide
are released freely causing severe damages in the environment (Chen, Ebenstein, Greenstone, Li,
2013; Chen, Kan, Chen, Jiang, Hong, 2011; Kan, London, Chen, Zhang, Song, Zhao, Chen, 2007.
In terms of air pollution, China even seems to be surpassing other countries globally (World Health
Organization, 2010). Data shows that the most serious cases of air pollution in the world are
located in nine cities in China and about 1/3 of the 113 cities failed the national

In 1956, serial killer Ed Gein was arrested in his Wisconsin home. The quiet hermit was found to

untimely demise, his father died in the late 40 s and his motherdied in the 50 s. After their deaths,
Gein went insane and turned into a human butcher. Even though, he was only guilty of murdering
two women, he also confessed to be a serial grave robber that would dig up and carve up the
bodies he exhumed. Gein even went as far making a human skin costume and would wear it, posing
as the opposite sex. Living in the Wisconsin at the time, author Robert Bloch started writing a

everyone wanted to hear but it was the truth and this helped the family come to terms with their

the more the family began to forgive him. Then Ender hit them with the big news about Libo

Marriage Is A Necessity Of Life
At one point or another we will all experience the euphoric highs and devastating lows of love.
For most of us, the spell of love will culminate into marriage. It only seems natural since it has
been a cultural norm for hundreds of years. There is even a scientific consensus that we are
biologically compelled to find another mate. However inherent love is to us, marriageis an abstract
notion conceptualized by human philosophy. It is humanity s effort to manifest the unification of
two people and to be recognized by society. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to rethink the
validity of marriage in the 21st century. Divorce plagues society today with the probability
averaging out to fifty percent in the United States. The consequences of divorce generally
devastate whole families, destroying financial life long accomplishments, and even spur us in deep
states of depression sometimes leading to suicide. However conflicting marriage is with modernity,
to older generations the institution of marriage is a necessity of life, but is not fair to men, and is
often a disservice to our youths. As humans we seek the happiness through companionship. For
prior generations, one way this was fulfilled was through marriage. It was a way of life in which an
individual would share a household with their spouse and often times with their offspring. These
institutions would be interdependent on one another for financial stability and emotional support.
However, not every marriage was

Screen s Influence On American Culture
American Culture and the Screen s Influence
During the 1920s, movies grew in popularity in the United States due to their affordability and
availability. This led to a general curiosity about the actors lives themselves and gave Hollywood a
harsh reputation due to all of the scandals that occurred. In the 1950s, movies declined in their
popularity and the American public turned their attention toward television. As a result, television
became an American staple and TV shows were more convenient than movies, seeing as they could
be watched without leaving the house. Now Americans can watch both movies and TV shows at
home via DVDs, and are still interested in the personal affairs of the actors and actresses involved.

During the 1920s, the general public associated Hollywood with immorality. There were scandals
like William Desmond Taylor s and Virginia Rappe s murders. Although the two cases were not
related, many people correlated the two and other crimes within the industry. Despite this, many
Americans found themselves enraptured by the lives the actors led, the more dangerous, the more
interesting. Charlie Chaplin, a comedic actor and director, was stopped on the street constantly by
rabid fans begging for autographs. Now, most actors have or will have these issues once they
reach a certain height of fame. Charlie Chaplin was also one of the many actors accused of
being a communist during the Second Red Scare. Actors were publicized so frequently and
tended to be more liberal than the average person, so they made easy targets for the CIA during
this period. Some of the trials could be watched on TV, which also led to Americans questioning
their favorite actors political beliefs in order to be more like them, or just out of general curiosity.
Actors deaths were also seen as American tragedies. James Dean died in 1956 and Americans took
it very personally, calling him a personification of alienated American youth. He represented how
teenager s values differed from their parents throughout the 1950s but did not necessarily shape an

Transducin Case Study Answers
In the case of the off center response, the Rod is not exposed to light and therefore, Rhodopsin
does not absorb the light photon and the GPCR does not activated Transducin. For this case, since
Transducin is not activated, there becomes an increase in intracellular [cGMP]. The cGMP
molecules are able to bind to the cGMP gated sodium channels subsequently causing a net flux of
sodium inside the photoreceptor. This net influx causes a graded action potential to fire in the
photoreceptor. This action potential fires down the cell causing an increase in NT release into the

The Blind Obedience And Authority
Blind Obedience to Authority
Millions of people were killed in Nazi Germany in concentration camps however, Hitler wouldn t
have been able to kill them all, nor could just a handful of people. Obedience is when society
influences where/ when an individual acts in response to a direct order from another individual,
who is usually the authority figure. It is assumed that without such an order the person would not
have acted in this way. In order to obey authority, the obeying person has to accept that it is
legitimate for the command to be made of them. Obedience involves a hierarchy of status.
Therefore, the person giving the order has a higher status than the person receiving the order.
Adolf Eichmann was executed in 1962 for his part in organizing the Holocaust, in which six million
Jewish people, as well as gypsies, communists and trade unionists were transported to death camps

part in the planning of the collection, transportation and extermination of those to be killed
(Saul McLeod, 2007). At his trial in 1961, Eichmann expressed surprise at being hated by Jewish
people, saying that he had merely obeyed orders, and surely obeying orders could only be a
good thing (Saul McLeod, 2007). According to McLeod, Eichmann was declared sane by six

The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido
Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by
stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this
information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this
does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general
stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a
case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them
with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that
Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their filmindustry. The stereotypeon Latinos el
Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and
antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where
they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype,
Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this
demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical images are in the cinematic register where
they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to be critical in the narration process.
Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films displaying poverty and crime as
part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films

Holtmann is a very good coach and should be able to get the bucks to bounce back, but these
losses have probably dropped the Buckeyes to a 5 seed. Duke (Rising) Duke beat Virginia Tech
easily and beat a top team in Clemson this week. They did all of this without Marvin Bagley.
Duke had really struggled lately but they ve looked good without Bagley and Grayson Allen has
really stepped up. The real question now is how will Duke get Bagley involved again without
hurting the positive chemistry the team is currently having. Right now Duke has probably
solidified themselves towards the top of the 2 line for the

Lots of matter was in a ball and then it exploded and the universe was created. All of that matter
formed planets and galaxies. Our galaxy was created 5 billion years ago. We haven t been around
that long figuratively speaking. As lots of gases and mass came together it formed the sun.
when the sun was formed more and more of mass and gas came to our newborn galaxy and when
they came together it form planets. When More and more planets and stars were formed the
galaxy started to form. When a lot of gas and other matter comes together it can create a huge
star or a sun. when stars or sun start to lose their energy. They will grow and grow till they
become unstable. If the star is big enough it will turn into a black hole. A black hole is so strong
that it can suck in anything, even light! When something gets sucked into it it will be crushed into
nothing. In 4 billion years the galaxy next to us will get sucked into our gravitational pull and will
collide with our solar system. When they collide it will create one big galaxy. Our solar system
will have already been gone. Here are the types of galaxies, one of galaxy types are called the

Effective Communication Practices
Effective Communication Practices
Communication is defined as the transfer and understanding of meaning (Robbins Judge, 2013) and
is the foundation of every relationship. There are four main reasons for communication in business.
They are to control, motivation, emotional expression and information (Robbins Judge, 2013).
Without effective communication the sharing of ideas, information, feelings and questions cannot be
completed. There is a process to communication and when the process is broken communication is
not effective. In business it is a manager s responsibility to understand the process of
communication, the functions of the communications and to minimize any barriers to
communication so that there is effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some managers or executives are simply poor listeners causing communication to constantly
break down. When a peer or someone at lower or higher level of the organization is speaking to
them, they may be daydreaming, showing lack of interest, reading, looking around, or listening to
another conversation. Because they are not concentrating on what is being said, they may
misunderstand part or the entire message. They may even believe that they are really paying full
attention only to realize later that they cannot remember parts of the conversation. Receivers may
also bring certain predispositions based on past experiences to the communication process. They
may already have their minds made up, firmly set in a certain way. For instance, a manager may
have heard that his or her new boss is unpleasant and hard to work with. When the new boss calls
the manager for an introductory meeting, the manager may go into that meeting predisposed to
dislike the new boss and pay little attention to what he or she has to say.
Ways to Improve Communication Effectiveness
Considering how many factors can create roadblocks to successful communication, it is fortunate
that we can resort to numerous techniques for improving communication effectiveness. The single
most important individual skill for improving communication effectiveness is being a good listener.
Being a good listener requires the individual be prepared to listen, keep interruptions to a minimum,
concentrate on both

With his position assured, Ewers and Lockhart needs to go over the financials of both organizations
and what they will look like for the new organization. It should become clear to Lockhart that the
musicians collective bargaining agreement will need to be renegotiated. Because of his relationship
with the musicians, Lockhart should be able to convince them that there is no alternative to
negotiating a new contract if the new organizations is to get off its feet.
Anne also needs to convince the musicians of her commitment to the arts and her ability to lead
such a prestigious organization and to do so, she will need to highlight her past accomplishments.
Anne has had enormous success in directing operas, including serving as stage director for over 60
opera productions world wide, including the adored San Francisco Opera. In addition, she had
stints as assistant director at the San Francisco Opera and the Canadian Opera. She also sought to
increase the amount of productions during her time at the Boston Lyrics Opera instead of
decreasing them to help retire the debt there. This should convince the musicians not only of Anne

How Drugs Destroy Athletic Ability
The human body can do a magnitude of activities, from running to climbing to lifting extremely
heavy objects that can all go away in the blink of an eye by using drugs. One of the key things to
a healthy and athletic human is cardiovascular ability, or the strength of the heart and how
efficient it is pumping blood throughout the body. Just by preforming around thirty minutes of
exercise a day, can improve the body s cardiovascular health drastically. Just by preforming that
little bit of exercise a day the body can reduce in fatty weight. The cholesterol levels drastically
change too by increasing in HDL (good cholesterol) and decreasing in LDL (bad and total
cholesterol) . The body s blood pressure also changes for the better because... Show more content on

After a couple of weeks or so of drinking alcohol it begins to put strain on the heart mostly because
of weight gain. While drinking alcohol it blunts the nervous system down and the body loses most
or almost all of muscle control. Alcohol does not exactly destroy muscle but weight gain makes it
harder to exercise, so lack of exercise could be a reason for muscles to whiter away. A lot of
athletes use meth to decrease body fat. This can be done because of the drastic changes in the body
s metabolism. The drug is used because of the effects on the human brain. It releases stimulants in
the brain to make it seem like the body is having an adrenaline rush. The only plus side to meth
is that it helps ADHD by giving the opposite affect to people that have that condition. A normal
person who does not have ADHD makes them almost go insane. Meth is super addictive and a
lot of times the person doing the drug will commit extremely violent acts to acquire money to
buy more of the mid priced drug. The person can have extreme mood swings and become
depressed or even suicidal. Panic attacks can acre because the person doing the drug is expecting
something and it doesn t happen. The body starts to lose control of the muscles and the body. The
person can start to have ticks close to Parkinson s or turrets. Also permanent brain damage and
nervous system damage can occur just by doing the drug

Classical Music Concert Analysis
MasterWorks and Friends Quartet and Quintet at Biola University This MasterWorks and Friends
Quartet and Quintet performance was the first of Biola University s classical music concert series
in Fall 2017. For two hours classical music lovers crowded into the Crowell Music Building
Auditorium of Biola University Conservatory of Musicto listen to great concert music from
Professor Li shan Hung (piano) and her guest performers Mary Irwin (violin), Lisa Boyko (viola),
Alan Harrell (cello), and Elizabeth Ann Larson (violin). The concert began at 7:30 pm with
Johannes Brahms Piano Quartet Number 2 in A Major, Op. 26 consisting of four parts Allegro
non troppo, Poco Adagio, Scherzo:Poco Allegro, and Finale:Allegro with Professor Li shan
Hung (piano), Mary Irwin (violin), Lisa Boyko (viola), and Alan Harrell (cello) and lasted for
fifty five minutes. I noticed Professor Li shan Hung stood out during the performance because
she was in control of the whole time and because she was also the lead performer. It was difficult
for Professor Li shan Hung to turn the music pages so there was a helper on her left side to turn
the music pages for her. This was an excellent performance and the classical musiclovers inside the
Crowell Music Building Auditorium gave applauds time and again. There was a fifteen minute
intermission so all the four performers could thank the audience and took a break before the second
part of the concert began. Antonin Dvorak s Piano Quintet Number 2 in

Government Surveillance Report
The part of Dr. Christ s lecture that remained in my mind was his input on the topic of
surveillance. In fact when he mentioned that google is able to track us, I immediately opened my
phone and shut down the ability for google to track my location. My animation connects to Dr.
Christ s lecture in the sphere of surveillancewhile at first this doesn t seem to connect with my
project I will show you why. Notice when you were playing the game as you moved smug, the cat,
the ball followed. This is my way of showing governmentsurveillance. The ball reacting to smug s
movements serve as a metaphor for the way that the government is able to track us via google, our
phones and various other mechanisms. Also notice that you can trick the ball into going away
from smug. This trick is a metaphor for how people can encrypt information and use the dark web
to keep information away from the government. Also the ability to trick the ball into going in the
wrong direction serves as a metaphor for how the government is a massive inept bureaucracy that

America s Obsession With Weight Loss and Body Image
America s Obsession with Weight Loss and Body Image
Introduction
Concern with weight and body image is a widespread preoccupation for many Americans. In a
study of college students 74.4 percent of normal weight woman and 46 percent of normal weight
men said they thought about their weight or appearance all the time or frequently ( Body Image,
2012). Focus on appearance is at an all time high in American culture increasing the potential for
negative body image. Poor body image increases the risk for extreme weight/body control
behaviors. Researchers have found that increased preoccupation with appearance and body
dissatisfaction put people at greater risk for engaging in dangerous practices to control weight and
size. Extreme dieting, exercise compulsion, laxative abuse, vomiting, smoking and use of anabolic
steroids have all been associated with negative body image. ( Body Image, 2012).
Body Image
Body image encompasses how we perceive our bodies, how we feel about our physical
experience as well as how we think and talk about our bodies, our sense of how other people
view our bodies, our sense of our bodies in physical space, and our level of connectedness to our
bodies. Over the past three decades, while America has gotten heavier, the ideal woman presented
in the media has become thinner. Teenagers are the heaviest users of mass media, and American
women are taught at a young age to take desperate measures in the form of extreme dieting to

Invasion Of Canada In The 1800 s
In the early 1800 s Britain has been using impressment on our American sailors and escaped ex
British sailors they also have been putting them in the British navy. Josiah Quincy a federalist
was a man who did not agree with waging war with Britain. In his speech he said for what
purpose to invade Canada? For territory? No. You have enough of that. Citizens refugees? No. you
would be willing to dispense with them. Plunder? This is the only hope an invitation of Canada can
offer you. (Quincy) This shows that there would be nothing to gain from invading Canada. The
only thing you can get from invading Canada would be adding to the national debt. Some might
argue that we are losing pride by not taking up arms and fighting the British. However

Case Study of the ConvergEx Group 2013 Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA)
In December 2011, ConvergEx Group publicly disclosed parallel investigations by the United
States Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States Department of Justice. Between
2006 and 2011, two former employees of ConvergEx Group had concealed the routing of certain

According to the court documents, Acting Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman stated
...ConvergEx...along with several of its employees, engaged in a concerted and coordinated effort
to fleece its clients by charging them millions of dollars in unwarranted fees...and then concealing
those charges from its clients through a pattern of deception ( Convergex Group, 2013). In layman s
terms, ConvergEx employees were moving funds through ConvergEx Global Markets in Bermuda,
while marking up or down the investments in order to keep a sum of the money for themselves
from the clients. The employees also falsified the documents that were sent to the clients regarding
these transactions. The subsidiaries and the individuals involved with this scheme were charged
with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud and wire fraud.

African Bushmen And Iroquois Creation Myths
Compare and Contrast: The African Bushmen Creation Myth and the Iroquois Creation Myth
All around the world are different kinds of creation myths on how earth, animals, and life came to
be. Not one creation myth is the same to another. Every single creation myth is like a snowflake,
unique in its own way. Creation myths can vary on how earth and humanity were created, but all
creation myths always have the concept of life. The African Bushmen Creation Myth and Iroquois
Creation Myth both are alike and different in many ways. These myths are similar in the way of
how each paint a picture of creation. On the other hand, both are very different thus contrasting each
other like day and night. In this essay, I will be discussing the similarities and differences in both
The African Bushmen and Iroquois Creation Myths.
First, we will discuss and examine the similarity s in these creation myths. Both myths have many
shared themes throughout each story, as do lots of other variations of Creation Myths. For example,
some main similar points in these mythical stories include, peaceful beginning, the importance of
animals, punishment, and a bad/sad story turning event. Similarly, both stories start out with the
world being peaceful it was stated that there was no pain, and everyone got along happily. Another

Compare And Contrast Unferth And Beowulf
In the epic poem Beowulf, the story introduces two different warriors. The epic poem introduces the
mighty geat warrior, who goes by the name Beowulf where the epic poem is about. Later in the
story, it introduces a minor conflict between Beowulf and Hrothgar s right hand man named
Unferth. Unferth creates tension through insulting Beowulfand accusing of his tales to be fake and
that he is not a better warrior than Unferth, himself. However, throughout the story Beowulf proves
countless times that he is the better warrior than Unferth. Beowulf and Unferth, two warriors who
crossed pathswith Beowulf s great journey to kill Grendel. Beowulf came from what is now
Southern Sweden and is the son of Ecgtheow. Beowulf journeyed to Herot to fight Hrothgar s
problem, Grendel. While Beowulf was preparing for his battle against Grendel, he encounters
Hrothgar s Right Hand Man, Unferth, and the two had an argument. Both Beowulf and Unferth had
arguments which had valid points against each other. When Unferth talked to Beowulf, he calls
Beowulf out with his stories that were spread across the land. Unferth stated the same Boastful
Fool who fought a swimming match with Brecca, (Ln 239 240). Unferth showed no interest with
Beowulf calling him a boastful fool for going aginst Brecca, who was considered the strongest of
men. Unferth continued saying that Beowulf struggled against Brecca for seven long nights and
still lost. Unferth said young and proud, exploring the deepest seas,

  • 2. Examples Of Liminality In Bildungsroman Amy Gaffney, 14734045ENG10090Coming of Age Final Essay Whether orphans or adventurers, many characters in the course texts have a troubled relation to home and society. Comparing two texts, consider the representation of outsider figures. On the Outside Looking in: Liminality in Bildungsroman To be liminal is, according to the Oxford English Dictionary in a cultural anthropologic sense of or relating to a transitional or intermediate state between culturally defined stages of a person s life, especially as marked by a ritual or rite of passage; characterized by liminality. Being liminal can also be seen as being the outsider, the threat to what is considered the norm. According to Giddens, norms are rules of behaviour that reflect or embody a culture s value, either prescribing a given type of behaviour or forbidding it. (1065). These norms operating within a society can be either explicit or implicit. Transgressing norms can be seen as a deviance, however, deviating from the norm may yield both negative and positive results. In many bildungsroman liminality is essential to the characters development. Philip Pullman s Northern Lights and Jeanette Winterson s Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, in which both the main characters of Lyra and Jeanette respectively are of a liminal nature,... Why Do Wes Moore Make Bad Decisions Estefani Magana Professor Buchanan English 73X 14 November 2015 Decisions that Changed their Lives Forever Wes and the other Wes Moore both made poor decisions at a young age, but only one was able to change for the better. The Other Wes Moore is a book written by Wes Moore about two men with the same name living very different lives. Both Wes Moores have a lot in common, both didn t have a father growing up, their mothers worked multiple jobs to give their families a better life, and both grew up in bad neighborhoods. I believe that both live drastically different lives because the other Wes Moore made poor decisions and Wes didn t. Wes was also doing very poorly in school, his grades where very low and the teachers would tell his mother that he had a learning disability, but the real reason why he was doing so poorly was because he wasn t showing up to class most of the time. Wes had made the decision to only go to class twice a week. Wes Moore states, Some days I would check into homeroom; other days I d head directly back to the train and return to the neighborhood, where I d meet up with one of the guys who had a similar arrangement (77). If Wes had made better decisions while attending Riverdale his mother would have never sent him to Valley Forge. Since Valley Forge was such a big impact on his life, by not being sent there he would of probably never have gone to Johns Hopkins and wouldn t have traveled to South Africa. In my opinion by attending Valley Forge Wes was able to change his life for the better. If Wes had ever decided to actually go through with his plan and escape Valley Forge and go home he would have a very different life. It was Wes s decision to join sports, clubs and do well in his academics. If he wouldn t have done so he would of probably been dropped from Valley Forge and be forced to go back home. Valley Forge was a huge impact on his life because it taught him how to fully prepare for his responsibilities as an adult, to be mentally alert, and to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hidden Meaning In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Most believe that the theme of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is if one s astrology signs do not match up then they not ment to be together. Although, what most fail to realize is that Shakespeare has a hidden meaning cleverly masked by the thought of Romeo and Juliet being Star Crossed lovers controlled by fate and destiny. Then, when one takes a deeper look at the play it reveals a very different meaning. Shakespeare s hidden meaning is all about human condition. Romeo and Juliet is hinged around two star crossed lovers, whose affections are cruelly ripped apart by their parents long lasting feud. The play is structured so that the ending is inevitable, and all of the outcomes in the play are due to the characters human conditions and the effect of others playing into the tragic ending. Heraclitus Ethos Pathos And Logos Seetha Aribindi Heraclitus was one of the natural philosophers from Ephesus in Asia Minor, circa 540 480 B.C. , who believed that constant change or flow was the basic characteristic of nature. He believed the world was characterized by opposites and it would cease to exist without their constant interplay. God is day and night, winter and summer, war and peace, hunger and satiety, he said, believing God can be seen most clearly in constant transformations and contrasts in nature. (p 28) But instead of God he used the greek word logos which means reason, as he believed that there must be a kind of universal reason or universal law guiding everybody and everything that happens in nature. They have traditionally been viewed as competitors with cattle for rangeland resources, so eradication programs have reduced populations to less than two percent of those several decades ago (Whicker and Detling 1988). The Colorado Parks and Wildlife have now deemed this keystone species as a species of concern due to sylvatic plague, direct loss of habitat to urban/suburban development, habitat fragmentation, conversion of habitat to agricultural uses, systematic poisoning, recreational shooting, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. Our biggest concerns are focused on habitat loss and fragmentation and systematic poisoning and how they connect to Colorado s growth in population. The grasslands along the Front Range are primarily inhabited by native grasses including, needle and thread grass (Stipa comata) and blue gramma grass (Bouteloua gracilis), as part of the primary producers of the ecosystem. In areas where prairie dogs are present, native grass populations decline at a rather quick rate and are often low in richness, evenness, and diversity (Beals et al. 2014). We will look at how this affects the rest of the grassland ecosystem and changes it where trophic efficiency is concerned. Prairie dogs are useful for trophic efficiency because they help maintain the growth of primary producers in the grasslands. Zinc phosphide rodenticide is an inorganic pesticide that ... Shooting in a game is similar to shooting or throwing objects in real life. It takes predictions and precision. Not only in video games, but accuracy is a very important key factor in many sports as well. For example, soccer requires aiming the ball at a certain angle or direction to pass it to another player. (Frankl, 2000) This compares to the weapon shooting a bullet at a certain angle or direction in order to snipe another playing running or jumping. A group of participants helped with a study at the Ohio State University to test whether shooting games helped improve a player s accuracy in real life shooting. In this experiment,... Essay on Congenital Neonatal Infections in Vertical HIV Congenital Human Immunodeficiency Virus, also called Vertical HIV, is a serious epidemic arising from passage of the virus to an infant from a maternal infection. The disease can have severe symptoms for the infected newborn and is almost always fatal to the child. The fetus has a 25% chance of infection while in utero and a 20% 50% ( depending of the country) chance of infection during the birthing process although a cesarean birth significantly lowers the probability of neonatal infection. The severity of the mothers HIVinfection determines the chances of a fetal infection meaning the more advance the disease in the mother the high the possibility of transmission through placental cord blood. Infection can also occur from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The juxtapositional co receptor attachment to the host membrane encourages the GP41 protein to initiate fusion by collapsing into a hairpin loop structure bringing the two membranes in close proximity. The virus then injects the contents of the virion including machinery enzymes and the RNA genome into the host cell where a dsDNA molecule is made and integrated into the host. The reverse transcription process has a high mutation rate because the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme is unable to detect or repair any mistakes as it forms the dsDNA. After the new dsDNA molecule is made it is transported to the nucleus of the host and integrated into the host genome. The HIV genome will either remain in a lysogenic state within the host or if actively stimulated new HIV viruses will be constructed and released to infect neighboring cells. The ability of the virus to choose its co receptor is called viral tropism and determines its virulence and disease progression rate. If the virus binds with the co receptor CCR5 it is called macrophage tropic (M tropic) and characterizes most HIV infections. The M tropic variant is regarded as less virulent because it is nonsyncytial. Some mutations of the CCR5 gene lead to a partial immunity to the virus and can slow the disease and in some cases prevent infection of the M tropic HIV varient. Also patients with high levels of CCR5 soluble chemokines are more resistant to the virus. The CXCR4 chemokine co receptor is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patrias faith was so strong that her family considered her a spirit baby before she could even speak. The first time readers hear from Patria she says No one had to tell me to believe in God or to love everything that lives . In these words she shows how she could never question God or his choices. • 22. The Stimulus Of The Words In Jabberwocky the stimulus of the words in context activates thought and the ability to recognize known structures in memory. The context and the placement of the words in sentences allow us to make assumptions about grammatical structure. We determine how a particular word functions in that sentence, i.e., an adjective, verb, adverb, etc. And the words placement within the sentence helps to reveal meaning. ( Sukar Ray ) Lewis Carroll makes up words that tell a story, when strewn together in patterns that mimic known grammatical structures. Here, no one to one relationship between word and referent exists in the world, but it very much feels as if it does because of the context in which the poem is set. It is also an example of how closely related the concept of musical metaphor is with poetic metaphor. In his book Bernstein describes the three metaphors used in music: As concisely as possible, this is it: music has intrinsic meaning of its own, which are not to be confused with specific feelings or moods, and certainly not with pictorial impressions or stories. These intrinsic musical meanings are generated by a constant stream of metaphors, all of which are forms of poetic transformations. (131) Bernstein seeks to prove that music has intrinsic, extrinsic and analogical meaning much the same way language does for non musical meanings. It only seems natural since it has been a cultural norm for hundreds of years. There is even a scientific consensus that we are biologically compelled to find another mate. However inherent love is to us, marriageis an abstract notion conceptualized by human philosophy. It is humanity s effort to manifest the unification of two people and to be recognized by society. Unfortunately, it seems that we have to rethink the validity of marriage in the 21st century. Divorce plagues society today with the probability averaging out to fifty percent in the United States. The consequences of divorce generally devastate whole families, destroying financial life long accomplishments, and even spur us in deep states of depression sometimes leading to suicide. However conflicting marriage is with modernity, to older generations the institution of marriage is a necessity of life, but is not fair to men, and is often a disservice to our youths. As humans we seek the happiness through companionship. For prior generations, one way this was fulfilled was through marriage. It was a way of life in which an individual would share a household with their spouse and often times with their offspring. The Blind Obedience And Authority Blind Obedience to Authority Millions of people were killed in Nazi Germany in concentration camps however, Hitler wouldn t have been able to kill them all, nor could just a handful of people. Obedience is when society influences where/ when an individual acts in response to a direct order from another individual, who is usually the authority figure. It is assumed that without such an order the person would not have acted in this way. In order to obey authority, the obeying person has to accept that it is legitimate for the command to be made of them. Obedience involves a hierarchy of status. Therefore, the person giving the order has a higher status than the person receiving the order. Adolf Eichmann was executed in 1962 for his part in organizing the Holocaust, in which six million Jewish people, as well as gypsies, communists and trade unionists were transported to death camps and murdered in Nazi Germany and surrounding countries under Nazi control. Eichmann took part in the planning of the collection, transportation and extermination of those to be killed (Saul McLeod, 2007). At his trial in 1961, Eichmann expressed surprise at being hated by Jewish people, saying that he had merely obeyed orders, and surely obeying orders could only be a good thing (Saul McLeod, 2007). According to McLeod, Eichmann was declared sane by six psychiatrists, he had a normal family life and observers at his trial described him as very average. Given that there appears to be nothing ... The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their filmindustry. The stereotypeon Latinos el Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical images are in the cinematic register where they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to be critical in the narration process. Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films displaying poverty and crime as part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

St. John s (Rising) St. John s is sitting at 14 13 and is currently a long shot to make the tournament. Still they re worth mentioning considering they re riding a four game win streak that includes wins against Duke and Villanova. Oklahoma has lost 8 of their last 10 and look bad. Oklahoma was a projected one seed at a certain point but now it looks like they could end up being between an 8 and 10. Ohio State (Falling) Ohio State has lost a couple straight games and have looked sloppy. Their star player Keita Bates Diop has been shutdown and they ve struggled to slow down opposing teams. Duke had really struggled lately but they ve looked good without Bagley and Grayson Allen has really stepped up. When a peer or someone at lower or higher level of the organization is speaking to them, they may be daydreaming, showing lack of interest, reading, looking around, or listening to another conversation. Because they are not concentrating on what is being said, they may misunderstand part or the entire message. They may even believe that they are really paying full attention only to realize later that they cannot remember parts of the conversation. Receivers may also bring certain predispositions based on past experiences to the communication process. They may already have their minds made up, firmly set in a certain way.
