Arch of titus Essay
The Arch provides one of the few contemporary depictions of Temple period artifacts.[6][7] The seven
branched menorah and trumpets are clearly depicted. It became a symbol of the Jewish diaspora. In a
later era, Pope Paul IV made it the place of a yearly oath of submission. Jews refuse to walk under it.
[citation needed] The menorah depicted on the Arch served as the model for the menorah used on the
emblem of the state of Israel.[citation needed]However, when the existence of modern State of Israel
was formally declared, the entire Roman Jewish community spontaneously gathered by the arch and in
joyful celebration, walked backwards under the arch to symbolize beginning of the long awaited
redemption from the Roman Exile.[8]

It was constructed in c. 82 AD by the Roman Emperor Domitian shortly after the death of his older
brother Titus to commemorate Titus victories, including the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD.
The Arch of Titus has provided the general model for many of the triumphal arches erected since the
16th century perhaps most famously it is the inspiration for the 1806 Arc de Triomphe in Paris,
France, completed in 1836.
The arch is large with both fluted and unfluted columns, the latter being a result of 19th century
restoration.[2] The spandrels on the upper left and right of the arch contain personifications of victory
as winged women. Between the spandrels is the keystone, on which there stands a female on the East
side and a male on the West side.[2]
Detail of the central soffit coffers
The soffit of the axial archway is deeply coffered with a relief of the apotheosis of Titus at the center.
The sculptural program also includes two panel reliefs lining the passageway within the arch. Both
commemorate the joint triumph celebrated by Titus and his father Vespasian in the summer of 71.
The south panel depicts the spoils taken from the Temple in Jerusalem. The Golden Candelabra or
Menorah is the main focus and is carved in deep relief. Other sacred objects being carried in the
triumphal procession are the Gold Trumpets and the Table of Shew

The Role Of Women In EuripidesBacchae
Throughout Euripides Bacchae, there are plot elements, which seem out of place for a tragedy, such as
Pentheus frolicking around in women s clothing. However, these out of place comedic elements serve
as a way to highlight the underlying conflicts in the play. One of these seemingly out of place plot
elements is the comedic way Agave handles the death of her child. On the surface, her comedic
behave or depicts women as foolish and weak, therefore making women seem inferior to men.
However understanding Agave s comedic behavior reveals the underlying conflict between how
women should behave in society versus how they behave in the story. Therefore, understanding the
way Agave handles the death of her son emphasizes the role of women in the patriarchal Greek
society. Understand the underlying meaning of Agave s comical behavior illustrates the oppression the
women face in the patriarchal Greek society. On the surface, the comedic way Agave handles her son s
death presents women as foolish and weak. Agave is oblivious that with hands alone . . . [she] caught
[Pentheus] and tore [him] limb from limb even though she holds his head in her hands (Bacchae
1209/10). Consistently, Agave believes that the bloody item she holds in her hand is the head of a lion,
rather than the head of her own beloved child. Agave s obliviousness is a form of dramatic irony,
which Euripides uses on the surface to represent Agave, as well as the other women, as rationally
inferior to men. This

Descriptive Essay About Kahului Airport
As I leave for Oregon I enter the Kahului airport, a fairly familiar site as I ve been here a number of
times for various reasons. Once inside I head to my destination, which isn t too hard to find. The
airport is sparsely populated with people awaiting their flights. On the way to my gate I come across a
hot dog stand selling overpriced hot dogs. With nothing else to eat I bought one for myself and one for
each of my brothers. Aside from each bite being a mouthful of onions, it was decent enough. Maybe
he d make more of a profit if he halved the amount of onions he used on each hotdog. I sit at one of
the seats that line the aisles to eat my overpriced food. Beside me my brothers sit and eat their own
hotdogs, the seats across the aisle remain empty much like most of the airport. The time comes to
board the plane, the small space is filled and we take off shortly after. Looking out the window all you
can see is the dark of night and the lights coming from the island. With a long flight ahead, I do my
best to rest while I can. Following a six hour flight from Maui I arrive in San Francisco. I step off the
plane and am greeted by a sea of people and an airport much larger than the one in Kahului. The much
more calm feeling of the island is replaced by the hustle and bustle of the much larger city, quite
honestly it s a tad strange. There was not a moment s rest for these people as they hurried along from
one gate to the next. There s no order in the way people walk, sometimes

The Integration Of The European Union
Modern culture commonly exceeds the boundaries of individual nation states through processes such
as globalisation, improvement in technologies and the rise in free trade; leading to the concept of
transnationalism (Waldinger, 2013). Transnationalism involves interactions linking people or
institutions across the borders of many nation states (Crang et al, 2003). Transnationalism is
intrinsically linked to mobility; mobility is the ongoing and continuous cross border movements in
which people develop and maintain economic, social and cultural links in more than one nation,
mobility (this sentence is too long but I m not sure how to change it so it still makes sense) facilitates
transnationalism with enables Europeanisation (Ernste, 2009). ... Show more content on

As a result, integration allows Europe to increase their economic output, because as Hansen and
Jonsson (2014) argue West Europe lacks the natural resources necessary to become a viable economic
power to compete globally. The Schengen agreement of 1995 therefore facilitates trade,
transnationalism and Europeanisation because it enables workers, particularly lorry drivers, to move
easily across the continent.
Medrano (2012) argues that integration processes are difficult because of the diversity within the EU,
the rise of Euroscepticism, and the shift in the balance of power of national institutions from domestic
parliaments to a European parliament. Fligstein (2012) mentions that in 2004 only 3.9 per cent of
people who lived in Europe viewed themselves as European, this is very damning in suggesting that
the processes of EU integration have failed because no one identifies themselves as European. Raunio
(2011) also echoes this sentiment; he comments that national governments are the gatekeepers of EU
integration; however, the consistent enlargement of the EU has made this task more difficult, leading
to the conclusion that integration has resulted in the loss of control that domestic governments have
over their decisions

Analysis Of Alexander IIi The Great King Of Macedonia And...
Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won t taste good. ~Joe
Paterno. Alexander III the Great, King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is
considered to be one of the best military geniuses of all times. He was inspiration for conquerors to
come such as Hannibal, Napoleon, and Pompey along side Caesar. Alexander was born in 356 BC in
Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia.1 Alexander s childhood had a major impact on his later life
and his military strive. At a young age Alexander watched his father turn Macedonia into a mass
military power. His father won many great battles all throughout the Balkans. When he was just
twelve years old, he showed off his horse riding skills to his father and many others. He tamed a
Bucephalus, a rowdy steed. Bucephalus was supposedly unable to be ridden, and all who had tried to
tame it had their flesh devoured . When he was 13, his father Philip hired philosopher Aristotle to be
his teacher. For three years Alexander learned about science, medicine, and philosophy. In 340 BC,
when Alexander was only 16 years old, Phillip invaded Trace and left Alexander in charge of
Macedonia. While he was in power a Thracian tribe posed a threat, and Alexander constructed an
army and lead them against the rebels. Not only were the Thracian rebels defeated, but also Alexander
captured their stronghold and named it Alexandropolis after himself.1 Once Alexander turned 18 his
father made him one

Cognitive Behavior Therapy And Mental Disorders
Cognitive Behavior Therapy Cognitive behavior therapy is a great way to help people with depression.
According to Wright, Cognitive behavior therapy is a pragmatic, action oriented treatment approach
that has become a widely used psychotherapy for major mental disorders. Cognitive behavior therapy
methods were initially developed for depression and anxiety disorders, and later they were modified
for many other conditions, including personality disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse; they
have also been adapted for use as an adjustment to medication in the management of schizophrenia
and bipolar disorder (Wright, 2006). Cognitive behavior theory is mainly used with depression and
anxiety. Many people of all ages are affected by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They may express thought of being overwhelmed and that there is so much to accomplish that they
can never do it (Corey, 2012). Depression even though can be treated by medication and therapy; it
can still lead to problems in the future when clients stop taking medication and therapy. Everyone has
automatic thoughts, but in clinical states such as depression and anxiety disorders, these cognitions are
often riddled with errors in logic. In depression, automatic thoughts typically center on themes of
negativity, low self esteem, and ineffectiveness (Wright, 2006). Aaron Beck studied depression and
focused on what triggers depression. Beck developed specific cognitive procedures to help depressive
clients evaluate their assumptions and beliefs and to create a new cognitive perspective that can lead
to optimism and change behavior (Corey, 2012). The first component of the triad includes clients
holding negative views of themselves, they also blame their setbacks on personal inadequacies
without considering circumstantial explanations. The people are convinced that they lack the qualities
in order to be happy. Examples of this would be I am a boring person , I am uninteresting , I am too
sad for anyone to like me. The second component is the tendency to interpret their personal world in a
negative manner. They tend to focus on certain facts conform to their negative conclusions. An
example for this would be No one appreciates my job. The last component

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Fight Against Homosexuals
In 1953, Dwight D. Eisenhower became the 34th President of the Unite States. His main goal was to
keep pressure on the Soviet Union during the early stages of the Cold War. During his Presidency,
Eisenhower brought back many of the old traditional values and fiercely attacked homosexuality and
sexual immorality.
Born into a strong religious household, Eisenhower believed that sex offenders and homosexuals
posed a national security risk; therefore, they should not be allowed employment into any Government
positions. Eisenhower s administration claimed that because of their sexual orientation, homosexuals
were more susceptible to blackmail by a communist enemy. Because of that, on April of 1953,
Eisenhower issued Executive Order 10450 which revoked President Truman s 1947 Executive Order
9835. In this new order, Eisenhower charged the heads of all federal agencies, with the assistance of
the FBI, with investigating all federal employees to discover if they posed security risks. Also ... Show

McLeod increased the fight against homosexuals and sexual offenders by creating a special branch
called Miscellaneous M Unit. The M Unit used a variety of techniques to expose homosexuals, with
the most successful ones being polygraph tests and personal interviews. Under McLeod s guidance,
the M Unit forced many federal employees accused of any sexual deviation, to resign. Many others
forced into confessions after prolonged interrogations. In addition to what was happening in the
United States, many Government Officials feared that homosexuals that worked in international
organizations would create a scandal that will bring negative attention to the United States. Therefore,
America demanded that the other U.N. nations take the same stand against homosexuality. Britain,
Canada and Australia soon followed the United States

There are differences between hearing and deaf cinema. When you watch a deaf movie, there is no
build up of tension, because there is no dramatic music, things just happen suddenly. The group of us
watching this movie actually screamed because we got caught off guard. The actors also use a lot
more expression, which adds more quality to the movie. Hearing actors usually have a dead face, no
matter what they are saying. On the other hand, deaf use their bodies more and their facial
expressions. I also caught a line where he Rex told Troy he better stop telling him what to do, or he
will cut off his hands. I found this extremely interesting, because this is the deaf equivalent to the
hearing line, Put a sock in it. They are both used to tell people to shut up; however, you cannot shove a
sock in a deaf person s mouth because they can still sign. If you cut off a deaf person s hands, they can
no longer communicate. I think it is important to catch small details like

The Call for the Gaelic League Essay
The Call for the Gaelic League
What would the United States be like if Americans couldn t practice their customs, culture, or even
appreciate their heritage? Granted the United States is a melting pot for several ethnicities, but some
native countries and cultures have faced this type of dilemma. The Spanish influence on the Aztecs
and the English on Native Americans are two examples of this imperialistic move. If only these
cultures had a strong network of men and women who devoted their lives towards keeping their
culture and history alive for future generations. The Gaelic League was based upon this definition.

The congestion led to the activation of the Irish Poor laws in 1838 by Great Britain s Queen Victoria.
These laws were enforced in an attempt to promote emigration to areas like the United States and
Australia. All the outcomes of the Famine were not necessarily negative. One such incentive was
modernization. According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the
tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). The demand for an
institution of education was in order.
To answer the demand would eventually lead to, The Gaelic League, the dominant institution of the
third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation
of 1829. With the loss of so many people, religion became a large part of the community. Such a
devastating event left the Irish vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful
nation could easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the mid
to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living. The Catholic
Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern regions of Ireland, grew in
popularity and even united small rural towns. This action rebuilt trust in communities and aided the
most devastated of areas. The major Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be

Summary Of Rick Reilly The Real New York Giants
What is lost is not always easy to replace, and losses suffered are not always easy to overcome. Grief
hangs heavily and normal life suddenly becomes hard to go through with the impact of recent events.
Rick Reilly addresses this in his essay The Real New York Giants. His nostalgic and somber tone
reflect the gravity of the situation, remembering his dear friends who were lost in the tragic event. In
his essay The Real New York Giants, Rick Reilly uses imagery, rhetorical questions, and diction to
convey the impact of loss on people and how they recover and return to their daily lives without the
familiar presence of people they lost. Through imagery, Reilly conveys the ardorous conditions that
the firemen in his squad had to work though, in both the physical and emotional sense. After the tragic
event of 9/11, firemen spent up to 18 hours a day... inhaling dust, smoke, glass particles, asbestos, and
microscopic remains of their fallen comrades . Working through horrendous conditions day in and day

World War II as a Time of Opportunities for American Women
World War II was the catalyst that changed the opportunities available to women and eventually the
way they were regarded as a viable workforce. Suddenly women throughout the United States were
pushing themselves to their limits to support the war effort. Women were fulfilling jobs and
responsibilities that many previously believed to be impossible for their gender. Opportunities were
opened in steel plants, ammunition factories, and even the United States military. As the war
progressed the number of male workers declined dramatically. Society had no choice but to turn to the

jobs like teaching, civil service. Men worked in manufacturing and dominated the professions. Women
did clerical work, or worked on the lower scale in a factory, or worked as domestics in other people?s
homes.? (Dr Strom and Wood, pg. 1) More married women were at work in the 1930?s than in the
1920?s but they held the lowest paying jobs.
Society at this time did not view women as equals and the pay they received reflected this attitude. ?In
1939 male teachers made an average salary of $1,953 while female teachers were paid a mere 1,394;
male social workers averaged $1,718 while their female counterparts received a salary of $1,442.
There was an expectation that women worked until they married then their husband would support the
family.? (Chafe, pg. 63) This attitude was seen in the salaries women throughout America received
prior to and during the early part of the war in small communities and the United States Government.
Even when faced with a shortage of man power most factories were reluctant to place women into
physically demanding jobs and even more reluctant to pay them a salary equal to their male
counterparts. Two businesses that employed such tactics were the Chemical Plant and the Arsenal built
in Huntsville, Alabama in 1941. Originally known as Redstone Ordnance Plant it was renamed the

To What Extent Is Propaganda To Deceive People In Animal...
A belief is something that someone chooses to agree with because he thinks it is right. He has his own
beliefs because he makes his own decisions. However, some people think that people can influence
each others decisions, and although this is true, an influence is not completely taking over what
someone believes in. For example, Eric Hoffer once said, Propaganda does not deceive people; it
merely helps them to deceive themselves. Propaganda, biased news, will always influence people, but
it does not have enough power to gain total control of someone s beliefs. People change their minds
and let other people alter their thoughts, but it is still that same person making his own decisions. As
portrayed in the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quote by Eric Hoffer, Propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive
themselves, means that when someone is introduced to something biased, he chooses to believe it
which harms himself. For example, when children see a toy that looks pretty and fun, they
immediately want that toy. The producers of the toy make the toy look appealing to children so their
parents would buy it for them even if the toy does not work. The children want the pretty toy so they
trick themselves into thinking it will fun to play with because of its appearance, but if it does not
work, it is the customer s fault for believing that the toy was worth buying. Another example is seeing
ads on television. They always show the beneficial effects of something but they do not show what
can go wrong. This makes the audience want to buy the product because they think it is perfect and
does not have any bad effects. The audience buys the product thinking it will only be a benefit to
them, when they probably wasted their money on a useless product. The people who decided to buy
this made their own decision to buy it and this is what the quote is saying. Some people will use
something to trick others, but that person is tricking themself by believing what the first person said.
People do not have to believe everything they see, but when they see something appealing to them,
they trick themselves by giving into

Essay On Robert Smalls
Robert Smalls was an enslaved African American who, during and after the American Civil War,

Marie Curie Accomplishments
No one would have expected that a young Polish girl from an impoverished family would have made
such great contributions and become one of the most influential scientists to ever live. During the
1860 s, society did not expect poor young women to become more than a housewife, let alone pursue
a career in science. However, Marie Curie broke through these stereotypes and in doing so, inspired
many women to follow in her footsteps. Many would believe that someone who has gained so much
recognition in the scientific community and achieved their lifetime goal would have a positive outlook
in life and a optimistic attitude. However, this was not the case for Marie Curie, who battled severe
depression from an early age. Although Marie Curie found herself in some dark places, she worked
even harder to overcome many societal and personal challenges. Without Marie Curie s lifetime
dedication to science, her discovery of radium and polonium, and her scientific contributions to
radiation, our world would not be the same.
Marie Curie was born on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland. Marie was born into an intellectual

In conclusion, Bristol Omnifacts feels performance appraisal is very important to its workplace.
However, its use for feedback is altered from most workplaces given the nature of its industry. The
performance appraisal system seems to be running smoothly enough for the company. However, it
appears the company may be in denial of some factors that could be improved. Such as problem
solving, past oriented/future performance appraisal balance and rater s biases. Bristol Omnifacts
should firstly, consider applying the problem solving approach more effectively so that employees
know what targets to work on. They should also 1) implement self appraisals and the 360 degree
method so that there is a balance between past oriented and future methods and 2) rotate supervisors
who conduct the evaluation interviews so that rater s biases can be reduced. 1.0 Introduction 1.1

A Sound Information Technology For A Business Organization...
A sound Information Technology (IT) infrastructure can be critical to a business organization s
operational and financial success. A problem, or glitch, in a firm s IT infrastructure can cripple an
organization and cause severe long term issues. Examples of such can be seen by examining the case
of Knight Capital, the 2010 Dow Jones Flash Crash, and the use of High Frequency Trading (HFT) on
Wall Street.
HFT has been in use since the late 1700 s, although not in the form that we are familiar with today.
Investors explored all available avenues to increase the speed of information, and gain a competitive
advantage. Savvy traders crushed their competitors through purchasing faster ships, mail services, and
early adoption of the telegraph. Today, HFT is algorithm based. Supercomputers react to market
changes, such as price and timing, and automatically initiate trades without the need for human
interaction. This has allowed investment firms to buy and sell stock at speeds thousands of times faster
than an average floor trader, and reduce costs through economies of scale.
Use of HFT has grown exponentially since the 1990 s. In 2012 alone, 6.4 billion shares were traded
through some type of HFT. There are signs, though, that the growth of HFT is tapering off. Profits
from HFT in 2014 are estimated at 1.25 billion dollars, down 74% from its 2009 peak of 4.9 billion.
Nevertheless, it is still an integral part of the US Stock Market.

Digital Pedagogy Essay
Currently we live in an era driven by information, global competition and new technologies that are
changing the way we think, live and work. (Pillay, Boulton Lewis Wilss 2004, p.17). This conveys the
notion that technology has manipulated the minds of today s generation in every way possible, could
be during schooling and non schooling life. Hence in order for one s teaching style to go successful
one should teach in accordance to the characteristics of the generation they re teaching as today s
generation requires a digital pedagogy. Furthermore this essay scrutinizes how the characteristics of
the 21st century and the digital world will influence the type of teacher one hopes to become. As well
as it examines on the construction of skill development towards students from the trending of digital
fluency.
Technology today is the fundamental enhancement of teaching and education towards students
including collaborative learning. Many educators would approve that a vigorous display of student
triumph is the students ability to advance both skills and an interest in durable education. A teacher s
style of teaching regarding educational experience and environment could have a vast effect on their
student s education. However technology has emerged as the foundation regarding stronger education,
therefore numerous students going to college or university have already possessed progressive skills

Breaking Bad And The Walking Dead
Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead are without a doubt two of the most popular shows on Netflix.
From cooking Methamphetamine to killing off zombies, both shows provide viewers with amazing
stories, and action packed episodes that will have you leaning off the edge of your seat. While many
fans simply see two different worlds filled with zombies and drug dealers, there are actually small
similarities that make people question if the two shows actually coexist within the same fictional
world. Many of these similarities are hidden messages or items within the series that the writers have
incorporated for the enjoyment of the fans. Once brought to the viewer s attention, they will find

To see him walking under these conditions is just way out of the ordinary, and is something one would
never see in Breaking Bad. Was Gustavo really a zombie? Could a certain chemical in Walt s meth
have caused this unusual behavior? There really is no right answer, and many of these questions and
theories are debatable. However, there is no denying that this specific scene from Breaking Bad
resembles a person in a zombie like state, which happens to be the key theme of The Walking Dead.
Another relationship that is seen portrays the idea that Merle Dixon s drug dealers may have been
Jesse Pinkman and Walter White, who are two major drug dealers in Breaking Bad. In the first season
of The Walking Dead, Merle s brother Daryl finds a bag of prescriptions and drugs that belong to
Merle. At the bottom of the bag, there appears to be blue crystal meth. Recollecting from Breaking
Bad, Walter White is the creator of the famous Sky Blue methamphetamine that is unique with its
baby blue color. Additionally, later on in season 4 of The Walking Dead, Daryl has a conversation with
Beth about a past experience he had with his brother. He s telling her about an encounter Merle had
with his drug dealer. Merle got in an argument with this guy and things started to get out of hand.
Daryl describes the dealer as being a janky little white guy, and a tweaker. He then tells her that this

Death And The King Horseman Analysis
In an interview with The Guardian (2009) Wole Soyinka explained that the motivation behind writing
Death and the King s Horseman was a bust of colonialist, Winston Churchill. To Soyinka, Churchill
signified the breaking of the Yoruba culture and traditions. The idea for the play came from an
instance during the colonial period in Nigeria, when the British intervened in the traditional suicide of
a king s horseman.
The title itself already makes reference to a Nigerian ritual in which the horseman of a king must kill
himself after the death of the king (McNulty, 2011:2). The biggest event of cultural misunderstanding
is evident in Act II when the British Officer, Pilkings, orders that Elesin Oba (the horseman) be
arrested. Joseph (the stableboy) tells the Pilkingses how it is tradition for the king to be burried a
month after his death but, before he can be burried, his dog, his steed and his horseman must die to be
able to accompany him to heaven. For long this tradition is questioned and contested by the Pilkingses
because how can something like that make sense to anybody? It is only once Olunde shows up in Act
IV that the playwright changes the context. Olunde compares the suicide of the horseman to the mass
killing of soldiers. He judges the Western customs of war in the same way the Westerners criticized his
traditions and people. And when Simon manages to stop Elesin from killing himself, Olunde turns his
back on his father at first, after which all the people from the market insults Elesin. His failure in the
task is seen as a weak will.
Another custom that is present is when, in Act II, the officer and his wife are getting ready for a ball
and Amusa shows up. Amusa refuses to speak to Pilkings because of his costume, a uniform the
Yoruban culture believes brings death. He tells Pilkings to put on other clothes as It is a matter of
death. How can a man talk against death to a person in uniform of death? p25. The British officer
cannot understand the rubbish because it is not part of his customs. To him it is clothing a fun outift to
wear to the ball with no abilitiy to cause death. But no matter how he tries to explain it, Amusa keeps
strong in his belief.
A simple thing to a Westerner, such as a

5. Industry trends:
IBM¡¦s old belief was that personal computers are a vital part of their overall strategy to link personal

adapting this belief to the new reality and importance of the PC potential, so during the 1980s and
early 1990s, IBM was thrown into turmoil by back to back revolutions in the trends of the computer
industry. The PC revolution placed computers directly in the hands of millions of people, and then, the
client/server revolution sought to link all of those PCs (the clients ) with larger computers that labored
in the background (the servers that served data and applications to client machines). Both revolutions
transformed the way customers viewed, used and bought technology, and both fundamentally rocked
IBM.
6. Tactics at IBM were as follows:
Marketing at IBM has often been based on recycling and updating older proprietary systems

We Need For Food Security For The Rising Global Population...
Farming technologies and strategies have evolved over thousands of years and have adapted to new
crops, environments, and needs. The need for food security for the rising global population calls for
new technologies that promise higher and healthier yields. Currently, photonic and optical
technologies help to make soils stronger, food safer to consume, and grapes sweeter. Imaging sensors
and lasers mounted on aircraft, lidar, fluorescence spectroscopy, and energy efficient LEDs are some
of the newest farming and food processing technologies that promise to revolutionize the industry
(Chan 112). Photonics technologies can predict the level of proteins in wheat harvests, map the quality
of water for the safety of fish stocks, and screen for any contaminants in tomatoes, spinach, and other
foods. A wide range of optical sensors are applied in agriculture; they range from sensors that analyze
soil attributes to those installed in combination to ascertain protein content in grains when they are
harvested. In essence, photonics technologies are assisting farmers, food processors, and famine prone
areas of the world to attain food security.
The health of soils
Currently, infrared sensing technologies have taken a pivotal role in the agricultural sector. The
infrared sensors are being used to monitor specific agricultural areas by way of determining the health
of soil within the area, its nutrient contents well as its hydrology. The techniques which determine the

Anna Karenina Juxtaposition
The juxtaposition of two characters helps depict the themes of the novel as a whole. In the novel Anna
Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, there are two dissimilar people with similar desires. Levin is a young man
ready to propose to the woman he is infatuated with; while Anna Karenina is a young woman that
realizes her marriage is dissatisfying after meeting her lover, Alexei Vronsky. Throughout the novel,
the two characters change their viewpoints in life and become different people than what they once
were. The juxtaposition of both characters explore the themes of country versus city life, the
importance of social status, and support in difficult times. At the commencement of the novel, Levin is
introduced as a young man anxious to marry. However, he is rejected by Kitty he delves into his work
in the countryside to distract himself. In the beginning Levin, ...recalled the shame of having been
refused..., (Tolstoy.179) he tries to persuade himself that he will soon forget the situation. Sadly,

What Intervention Activities Would Be The Most Help For...
Specific Intervention Activities: When assessing what intervention activities would be the most help in
addressing Haiti s health problem many underlying factors were considered. For a full list refer to
Table 1 included in the Appendix. However, the critical factors targeted in this intervention come
down to four focus areas. These priorities are: 1) provision of safe water and sanitation infrastructure,
2) carry out health education among community members, 3) fill critical healthcare gap, and 4)
improve and increase epidemiological surveillance In a blog post written by Sokari Ekine, the
Nigerian social justice activist explains that cholera is an illness exacerbated by heavy rains; poor
sanitation; and limited clean water and associated poor hygiene (Ekine, 2013). These components
factor largely into the chosen intervention activities. Haiti is an island that experiences significant
flooding due to its location in the hurricane belt; this flooding makes access to safe water a major
issue in a nation with flimsy infrastructure (World Health Organization, 2011). This program plans to
restore and improve water and sanitation facilities for they are the main mode of transmission for the
cholera bacterium. The corresponding poor hygiene that stems from lack of safe water and sanitation
will be addressed in the health education provided for community members.
Concentrating on the healthcare gap is meant to be a preventative measure for future need. By

How St. Thomas Aquinas s Teachings Have Affected Me
How St. Thomas Aquinas s Teachings have Affected Me St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the most
profound and prolific writers of his time, and his teachings I feel continue to resonate today. In fact,
one of his teachers, St. Albert the Great, once said of him, We call this young man a dumb ox, but his
bellowing in doctrine will one day resound throughout the world. This only understates the effect this
one man has had through the legacy he left behind. His works continue to inspire many, myself
included. This man could be describes as a giant among men, for the impact he has had on the world
that continues over seven hundred years after his death. St. Thomas Aquinas has influenced my

St. Thomas Aquinas further explains something, that I feel is very important to understand in terms of
one s morality. He says, while all human beings lead their lives towards the ultimate end, being God, it
is how one will walk that path that will determine our eternal life. In this path, he refers to the
importance of prudence. For it is prudence that allows one to choose the path that is right before God.
Prudence, can therefore be described as one of the most important virtues one can have according to
Thomas Aquinas. Having researched his works and his views on prudence, I now feel it is important to
re evaluate my own moral living, in order to place a much greater emphasis on prudent living as it
allows one to come closer to God and catch glimpses of His perfection. Therefore, I feel one of the
most significant ways St. Thomas Aquinas has bettered my understanding of moral and ethical living,
is through the importance of prudence, a virtue he obviously held in high regard. The second way by
which St. Thomas Aquinas has influenced my understanding of moral and ethical living is through his
teachings on temperance. Temperance is to seek pleasure rationally as Aquinas puts it. Not only does
he speak much about this virtue in moral living, but he certainly lived it out. In his time in school, he
was teased by his classmates, being called a dumb ox, for his seemingly shy and bashful disposition.
However, he was in

showed that 75 percent of these countries could do more to support female business leaders.
Challenges that women face include male dominated industries, limited access to capital, and less than

In almost half of the surveyed countries, 50 percent of the female population are described as

According to Business News Daily, other hurdles facing women entrepreneurs include lack of funding

Limitations also arise from gender stereotype. A recent study from the University of California, Santa

businesses less worthy of investment. And, because men lead many venture capitalist firms,

evidence which supports that HEALTHSOUTH S administration began fraudulently cooking the

War Poetry In Pity By Wilfred Owen And Siegfried Sassoon
Amongst the different genres of poetry that we can find, war poetry has been one which proved to
generate great interest from people around the world. The idea of war is in itself very terrible and any
individual can confidently say that no one would want to face the horrors of it. However, it was not
presented in this manner prior and during the build up to World War I. It was common to find that
many people were sugar coating war with the idea of pride yet they were not discussing the dreadful
experiences on the battle fields. This is why poets such as Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon
emerged; to react against the propaganda that the people were bombarded with. In this essay, I shall be

The former poem echoes the biblical imagery from the story of Abraham and his son Isaac with slight
changes to supply details which makes it seem to have taken place in an era of modern warfare.
However, since my main focus is showing Owen s sense of pity that people believe the hypocrisy and
propaganda of pro war individuals as well as highlighting the soldiers terrible treatment, I would like
to focus on the staggering last rhyming couplets. The poem twists the ending from that of the bible, as
instead of following the instructions of the angel advising him not to kill his son Isaac and to kill the
Ram of Pride instead, Abram opts not to listen and kills Isaac. Owen writes the old man would not so,
but slew his son,/ And half the seed of Europe, one by one . Isaac and the seed of Europe are
metaphors for the soldiers, while Abram represents the church and the people who have the power to
end war. This highlights the pity of the innocent dying soldiers at the hands of the hard headed rulers
who promulgate war and send soldiers to their

Supreme Court Decisions That Affected The Civil Rights...

gut turning and makes people upset. They can be very disrespectful and only think about their selves.
Some major Supreme Court decisions that impacted the civil rights movement are: Plessy vs

Plessy was jailed for sitting in the white race car of the East Louisiana Railroad. Plessy could easily
pass for white, but under Louisiana law, he was considered black despite his light colored skin and
therefore required to sit in the colored race car. He was a Creole of Color, a term used to refer to black
persons in New Orleans who traced some of their ancestors to the French, Spanish, and Caribbean
settlers of Louisiana before it became part of the United States. When Louisiana passed the Separate
Car Act, legally segregating common carriers in 1892, a black civil rights organization decided to

This can be a problem as more devices connect to and use a network the more data they use and can
cause a network to become congested. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small wireless
receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more confined
networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low capacity towers
when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network at any given time, this

Plaid In A Country Wedding
Plaid might look a little too laidback for some brides and grooms, but there are actually a number of
classy and creative ways to fit it into your country wedding without feeling like you ve down staged
the entire day. Add the checkered pattern into your wedding in any of these nine ways. 1. Table Linens
This minimalist strategy makes it easy to incorporate plaid in your country wedding. Keep the table
setting simple, and eliminate entire table cloths, replacing them with a plaid table runner instead. This
look is especially great for long tables where the runner can stretch from end to end. Set plaid napkins
on the table, instead of plain crème ones, to add a kitschy yet homey vibe to the dining setting that
perfectly encompasses the rustic part of the day. 2. Plates If plaid linens are too loud for you, dress up
the plates instead. Look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pair the plates with rustic centerpieces, such as pinecones and ferns. For more ideas, here are nine
creative centerpieces to consider. 3. The Groom s Wardrobe A pop of plaid in the groom s attire is both
fun and brings something new to the traditional wedding suit. The groom can wear a plaid tie in a
pattern that complements the suit and bridal bouquet. A pocket square or bow tie are additional swaps
he can make, which add a fashionable touch to the outfit. Whether he chooses a tie or a pocket square,
the item doesn t have to be a loud pattern. It can be soft and subtle, such as muted greens or blues. If
he s feeling really bold though, why not try a plaid suit? You can be sure it s a game changer when
compared to traditional wedding tuxedos. 4. The Bride s Dress If the bride s feeling casual, she can
wear a full flannel over her dress during the reception. This look gives the gown a relaxed feel. If this
look is too relaxed for you though, a thin plaid belt complements the dress, which looks just as lovely
without being over the

Hospice Care Essay
In recent years, Hospice care have risen to popularity and is being widely used among many
terminally ill patients and their families. This is evident in a report from the National Hospice and
Palliative Care Organization, In 2014, an estimated 1.6million 1.7 million patients received services
from Hospice (NHPCO, 2015). It is seen that many people uses Hospice care which means that many
deaths are also under the care of a Hospice program, therefore, patients and families satisfaction is a
crucial factor in assessing the quality of Hospice care and how to make improvement for future
services. Thus, I decided to conduct a research on patient and/or caregivers satisfaction that received
care from hospice programs.
The purpose of hospice is to effectively provide palliative care to terminally ill patients and their
families, it is available to any age, religion or race. According to the National Hospice and Palliative
Care Organization, hospice provides expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and
spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient s needs and wishes Support is provided to the patient

This might be one reason why some patients choose conventional treatment instead of choosing a
hospice program, there is many other factors that may contribute to this decision such as; financial
status. This research will help give nurses a stronger knowledge base of characteristics and advantage
of hospice care. In addition, nurses will be able to explain the advantages of Hospice programs to
more of their patients, thus, they will be able to educate and encourage more families to choose
hospice care. Not only will it help the patient live out a comfortable life it will also help the caregivers

Examples Of Clinical Objectives
Objectives Prior to my clinical day, February 14th 2017, I developed clinical objectives to enhance my
learning and clinical experience. One objective I created for myself was identify my patient and tasks
to be completed for the day. Another objective, I created for myself, was properly complete a full head
to toe assessment and examine my patient for a better understanding of his presentation. After
assessing my patient I wanted to identify medications to be administered during my shift and
administer all medications safely throughout the day. In addition to the objectives listed above, I made
an objective to supply patient with more education and feedback on pertinent information for their
condition, medications, and/ or personal questions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two problems with interventions and outcomes
Patient was nothing by mouth (NPO) for a procedure. When I was at clinical his nutritional status was
changed from to NPO clear liquid diet. While the patient was NPO he was complaining about having
a dry mouth and being hungry. Discussing NPO discontinuation with the physician was a great
intervention. The patient could start a clear liquid diet during my time with him. He was satisfied and
was not complaining about not being able to eat. This was also a positive outcome to prevent skin
breakdown from dry, chapped lips.
Patient was ordered to receive immunizations for the flu and pneumonia as discussed before. By
looking at the patient s charge it appeared he was refusing his vaccinations. The problem with him not
being vaccinated is increased risk of these virus, which create more complications with the older
adults over 65 years old. I intervened by discussing positive and negative outcomes of the vaccine. I
found that he had the flu vaccine already and was interested in the pneumococcal vaccine. The
outcome was positive and he is vaccinated now, fighting against the flu and

Origin Of Violence
The Origin of Violence A question that has been asked for years and years, to this day, that still
remains unanswered, where is the origin of violence. Where is the line that is drawn from self defense
to committing an act of violence? For years, cases on top of cases of violence have been reported.
School shootings, fights, murder, acts of theft, and countless others, all in which happen on a daily
basis, but where does the line get drawn from what is right and wrong in a situation. The origin of
violence lies within the case itself, as no case of violence is ever exactly the same, the beliefs, the
situation, and the scenario all have different origins for violence. Every individual s beliefs are
different from one another. Based on beliefs, in the 21st century, society follows their beliefs and tends
to be quite close minded to the thought of any belief that goes against or is not in favor of their own. If
an individual believes that that what they did in a violence scenario was right, their mind can not
easily be changed. Belief systems can also go into a huge psychological argument as ... Show more

There is a difference between the truth and an individual s truth. In your own mindset, you full
heartedly believe your own truth. So depending on the situation, anyone s truth can be taken as the
truth. A school shooter is probably convicted, charged as guilty, there is evidence over the crime they
committed, of course not really including their reasoning, but it is not a crime to be taken very easily.
Based on the situation lies the origin of violence. An intruder breaking into a family home, committing
an act of theft, the home owner shoots at the intruder, are they now the one guilty in this situation? No,
this was more of an act of self defense. The truth of the origin of violence lies within the

Qualitative Research and Data Analysis
2.1.6 Data analysis
In qualitative research, data analysis is a process of making meaning where the researcher has to
actively create meaning out of the raw materials (Esterberg, Kristin G., 2002). The process of making
meaning out of qualitative data is often iterative, meaning that there is a repetitive interplay between
the collection and analysis of data (Bryman and Bell, 2007).
Altogether 5 interviews were conducted with the tour operators in Denmark that are selling travel
packages to Nepal. Firstly, interview was conducted with Kipling travels (31ST March, 2014) and
then interviews were made with Dagama travels (2nd April, 2014), FDM travels (2nd April, 2014),
Albatros travels (24th April, 2014) and lastly C C travels (29th April, 2014). All of the interviews were
conducted on different days except interviews with Dagama travels and FDM travels. The findings
from the first interview were also used to ask questions in the following interviews and there was
constant interplay between the data analysis of the previous interview and the data collection from the
next interview. In this way, information gained from the first interview and the subsequent interviews
were used, to ask questions, in the interviews done later on. Figure 7: Comparison of Qualitative
Analysis Approaches (Thomas, 2006)
There are various approaches that can be used to analyze qualitative data such as the general inductive
approach, grounded theory approach, Discourse analysis and Phenomenology

A Doll’s House and The Cherry Orchard
Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard were famous for the way in
which they depicted the changing of cultures. Both plays act as a sort of social commentary during
times of widespread liberation, and use the contortive nature of these seemingly stereotypical
characters actions to speak about groups of people as a whole. Throughout the course of both plays,
this subversion of how different groups of people were typically perceived created a distinct contrast
which often shocked and appalled audiences of the time. However, the effects of these plays were felt
long after they were presented. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House, written in 1879, is set in late 19th
century Norway. Upon publication, Ibsen s biting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In furtherance of this, Torvald even begs and pleads for her to stay, all to no avail. Nora explains:
I have waited for eight years. I felt quite certain that the wonderful thing was going to happen at last. .
.I was so absolutely certain that you would come forward and take everything upon yourself (Ibsen
70).
Torvald responds, in accordance with popular male thinking, No man would sacrifice his honor for the
one he loves (Ibsen 70). At this point, Nora decides she must leave Torvald. This decision is the
ultimate act of insubordination, as no woman of late 19th century Norway would have dared to act in
such a bold way. As the play concludes, Torvald is left sad and weak, his masculinity diminished, but
realizing that the way which he treated Nora was improper and immoral. The final line leaves a
lingering hint of hope for a resolution, tying together the social commentary with a possible solution:
more equal treatment of women.
Likewise, Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard also uses subversion techniques and insubordination
in order to bring to light many prevailing social themes of late 19th century Russia. During this period
of time, Russia was faced with a massive change. In 1861, serfdom was eradicated in Russia and serfs
were freed. This action had enormous social implications, as an entire generation of serfs were now
free to roam amongst the masses of wealthy people. Of course,

  • 2. Arch of titus Essay The Arch provides one of the few contemporary depictions of Temple period artifacts.[6][7] The seven branched menorah and trumpets are clearly depicted. It became a symbol of the Jewish diaspora. In a later era, Pope Paul IV made it the place of a yearly oath of submission. Jews refuse to walk under it. [citation needed] The menorah depicted on the Arch served as the model for the menorah used on the emblem of the state of Israel.[citation needed]However, when the existence of modern State of Israel was formally declared, the entire Roman Jewish community spontaneously gathered by the arch and in joyful celebration, walked backwards under the arch to symbolize beginning of the long awaited redemption from the Roman Exile.[8] The ... It was constructed in c. 82 AD by the Roman Emperor Domitian shortly after the death of his older brother Titus to commemorate Titus victories, including the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD. The Arch of Titus has provided the general model for many of the triumphal arches erected since the 16th century perhaps most famously it is the inspiration for the 1806 Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, completed in 1836. The arch is large with both fluted and unfluted columns, the latter being a result of 19th century restoration.[2] The spandrels on the upper left and right of the arch contain personifications of victory as winged women. Between the spandrels is the keystone, on which there stands a female on the East side and a male on the West side.[2] Detail of the central soffit coffers The soffit of the axial archway is deeply coffered with a relief of the apotheosis of Titus at the center. The sculptural program also includes two panel reliefs lining the passageway within the arch. Both commemorate the joint triumph celebrated by Titus and his father Vespasian in the summer of 71. The south panel depicts the spoils taken from the Temple in Jerusalem. The Golden Candelabra or Menorah is the main focus and is carved in deep relief. Other sacred objects being carried in the triumphal procession are the Gold Trumpets and the Table of Shew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Women In EuripidesBacchae Throughout Euripides Bacchae, there are plot elements, which seem out of place for a tragedy, such as Pentheus frolicking around in women s clothing. However, these out of place comedic elements serve as a way to highlight the underlying conflicts in the play. One of these seemingly out of place plot elements is the comedic way Agave handles the death of her child. On the surface, her comedic behave or depicts women as foolish and weak, therefore making women seem inferior to men. However understanding Agave s comedic behavior reveals the underlying conflict between how women should behave in society versus how they behave in the story. Therefore, understanding the way Agave handles the death of her son emphasizes the role of women in the patriarchal Greek society. Understand the underlying meaning of Agave s comical behavior illustrates the oppression the women face in the patriarchal Greek society. On the surface, the comedic way Agave handles her son s death presents women as foolish and weak. Agave is oblivious that with hands alone . . . [she] caught [Pentheus] and tore [him] limb from limb even though she holds his head in her hands (Bacchae 1209/10). Consistently, Agave believes that the bloody item she holds in her hand is the head of a lion, rather than the head of her own beloved child. Agave s obliviousness is a form of dramatic irony, which Euripides uses on the surface to represent Agave, as well as the other women, as rationally inferior to men. This ... • 4. Descriptive Essay About Kahului Airport As I leave for Oregon I enter the Kahului airport, a fairly familiar site as I ve been here a number of times for various reasons. Once inside I head to my destination, which isn t too hard to find. The airport is sparsely populated with people awaiting their flights. On the way to my gate I come across a hot dog stand selling overpriced hot dogs. With nothing else to eat I bought one for myself and one for each of my brothers. Aside from each bite being a mouthful of onions, it was decent enough. Maybe he d make more of a profit if he halved the amount of onions he used on each hotdog. I sit at one of the seats that line the aisles to eat my overpriced food. Beside me my brothers sit and eat their own hotdogs, the seats across the aisle remain empty much like most of the airport. The time comes to board the plane, the small space is filled and we take off shortly after. Looking out the window all you can see is the dark of night and the lights coming from the island. With a long flight ahead, I do my best to rest while I can. Following a six hour flight from Maui I arrive in San Francisco. I step off the plane and am greeted by a sea of people and an airport much larger than the one in Kahului. The much more calm feeling of the island is replaced by the hustle and bustle of the much larger city, quite honestly it s a tad strange. There was not a moment s rest for these people as they hurried along from one gate to the next. There s no order in the way people walk, sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Integration Of The European Union Modern culture commonly exceeds the boundaries of individual nation states through processes such as globalisation, improvement in technologies and the rise in free trade; leading to the concept of transnationalism (Waldinger, 2013). Transnationalism involves interactions linking people or institutions across the borders of many nation states (Crang et al, 2003). Transnationalism is intrinsically linked to mobility; mobility is the ongoing and continuous cross border movements in which people develop and maintain economic, social and cultural links in more than one nation, mobility (this sentence is too long but I m not sure how to change it so it still makes sense) facilitates transnationalism with enables Europeanisation (Ernste, 2009). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, integration allows Europe to increase their economic output, because as Hansen and Jonsson (2014) argue West Europe lacks the natural resources necessary to become a viable economic power to compete globally. The Schengen agreement of 1995 therefore facilitates trade, transnationalism and Europeanisation because it enables workers, particularly lorry drivers, to move easily across the continent. Medrano (2012) argues that integration processes are difficult because of the diversity within the EU, the rise of Euroscepticism, and the shift in the balance of power of national institutions from domestic parliaments to a European parliament. Fligstein (2012) mentions that in 2004 only 3.9 per cent of people who lived in Europe viewed themselves as European, this is very damning in suggesting that the processes of EU integration have failed because no one identifies themselves as European. Raunio (2011) also echoes this sentiment; he comments that national governments are the gatekeepers of EU integration; however, the consistent enlargement of the EU has made this task more difficult, leading to the conclusion that integration has resulted in the loss of control that domestic governments have over their decisions ... • 6. Analysis Of Alexander IIi The Great King Of Macedonia And... Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won t taste good. ~Joe Paterno. Alexander III the Great, King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is considered to be one of the best military geniuses of all times. He was inspiration for conquerors to come such as Hannibal, Napoleon, and Pompey along side Caesar. Alexander was born in 356 BC in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia.1 Alexander s childhood had a major impact on his later life and his military strive. At a young age Alexander watched his father turn Macedonia into a mass military power. His father won many great battles all throughout the Balkans. When he was just twelve years old, he showed off his horse riding skills to his father and many others. He tamed a Bucephalus, a rowdy steed. Bucephalus was supposedly unable to be ridden, and all who had tried to tame it had their flesh devoured . When he was 13, his father Philip hired philosopher Aristotle to be his teacher. For three years Alexander learned about science, medicine, and philosophy. In 340 BC, when Alexander was only 16 years old, Phillip invaded Trace and left Alexander in charge of Macedonia. While he was in power a Thracian tribe posed a threat, and Alexander constructed an army and lead them against the rebels. Not only were the Thracian rebels defeated, but also Alexander captured their stronghold and named it Alexandropolis after himself.1 Once Alexander turned 18 his father made him one ... • 7. Cognitive Behavior Therapy And Mental Disorders Cognitive Behavior Therapy Cognitive behavior therapy is a great way to help people with depression. According to Wright, Cognitive behavior therapy is a pragmatic, action oriented treatment approach that has become a widely used psychotherapy for major mental disorders. Cognitive behavior therapy methods were initially developed for depression and anxiety disorders, and later they were modified for many other conditions, including personality disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse; they have also been adapted for use as an adjustment to medication in the management of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (Wright, 2006). They may express thought of being overwhelmed and that there is so much to accomplish that they can never do it (Corey, 2012). Depression even though can be treated by medication and therapy; it can still lead to problems in the future when clients stop taking medication and therapy. Everyone has automatic thoughts, but in clinical states such as depression and anxiety disorders, these cognitions are often riddled with errors in logic. In depression, automatic thoughts typically center on themes of negativity, low self esteem, and ineffectiveness (Wright, 2006). Aaron Beck studied depression and focused on what triggers depression. Beck developed specific cognitive procedures to help depressive clients evaluate their assumptions and beliefs and to create a new cognitive perspective that can lead to optimism and change behavior (Corey, 2012). The first component of the triad includes clients holding negative views of themselves, they also blame their setbacks on personal inadequacies without considering circumstantial explanations. The people are convinced that they lack the qualities in order to be happy. Examples of this would be I am a boring person , I am uninteresting , I am too sad for anyone to like me. The second component is the tendency to interpret their personal world in a negative manner. They tend to focus on certain facts conform to their negative conclusions. An example for this would be No one appreciates my job. The last component ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Dwight D. Eisenhower s Fight Against Homosexuals In 1953, Dwight D. Eisenhower became the 34th President of the Unite States. His main goal was to keep pressure on the Soviet Union during the early stages of the Cold War. During his Presidency, Eisenhower brought back many of the old traditional values and fiercely attacked homosexuality and sexual immorality. Born into a strong religious household, Eisenhower believed that sex offenders and homosexuals posed a national security risk; therefore, they should not be allowed employment into any Government positions. Eisenhower s administration claimed that because of their sexual orientation, homosexuals were more susceptible to blackmail by a communist enemy. Because of that, on April of 1953, Eisenhower issued Executive Order 10450 which revoked President Truman s 1947 Executive Order 9835. In this new order, Eisenhower charged the heads of all federal agencies, with the assistance of the FBI, with investigating all federal employees to discover if they posed security risks. Also ... In addition to what was happening in the United States, many Government Officials feared that homosexuals that worked in international organizations would create a scandal that will bring negative attention to the United States. When you watch a deaf movie, there is no build up of tension, because there is no dramatic music, things just happen suddenly. Hearing actors usually have a dead face, no matter what they are saying. On the other hand, deaf use their bodies more and their facial expressions. I also caught a line where he Rex told Troy he better stop telling him what to do, or he will cut off his hands. I found this extremely interesting, because this is the deaf equivalent to the hearing line, Put a sock in it. Granted the United States is a melting pot for several ethnicities, but some native countries and cultures have faced this type of dilemma. The Spanish influence on the Aztecs and the English on Native Americans are two examples of this imperialistic move. If only these cultures had a strong network of men and women who devoted their lives towards keeping their culture and history alive for future generations. These laws were enforced in an attempt to promote emigration to areas like the United States and Australia. All the outcomes of the Famine were not necessarily negative. One such incentive was modernization. According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). The demand for an institution of education was in order. To answer the demand would eventually lead to, The Gaelic League, the dominant institution of the third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation of 1829. With the loss of so many people, religion became a large part of the community. Such a devastating event left the Irish vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful nation could easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the mid to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living. The Catholic Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern regions of Ireland, grew in popularity and even united small rural towns. This action rebuilt trust in communities and aided the most devastated of areas. The major Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Summary Of Rick Reilly The Real New York Giants What is lost is not always easy to replace, and losses suffered are not always easy to overcome. Grief hangs heavily and normal life suddenly becomes hard to go through with the impact of recent events. Rick Reilly addresses this in his essay The Real New York Giants. His nostalgic and somber tone reflect the gravity of the situation, remembering his dear friends who were lost in the tragic event. In his essay The Real New York Giants, Rick Reilly uses imagery, rhetorical questions, and diction to convey the impact of loss on people and how they recover and return to their daily lives without the familiar presence of people they lost. Through imagery, Reilly conveys the ardorous conditions that the firemen in his squad had to work though, in both the physical and emotional sense. After the tragic event of 9/11, firemen spent up to 18 hours a day... inhaling dust, smoke, glass particles, asbestos, and microscopic remains of their fallen comrades . World War II as a Time of Opportunities for American Women World War II was the catalyst that changed the opportunities available to women and eventually the way they were regarded as a viable workforce. Suddenly women throughout the United States were pushing themselves to their limits to support the war effort. Women were fulfilling jobs and responsibilities that many previously believed to be impossible for their gender. (Chafe, pg. 63) This attitude was seen in the salaries women throughout America received prior to and during the early part of the war in small communities and the United States Government. Even when faced with a shortage of man power most factories were reluctant to place women into physically demanding jobs and even more reluctant to pay them a salary equal to their male counterparts. • 18. To What Extent Is Propaganda To Deceive People In Animal... A belief is something that someone chooses to agree with because he thinks it is right. He has his own beliefs because he makes his own decisions. However, some people think that people can influence each others decisions, and although this is true, an influence is not completely taking over what someone believes in. For example, Eric Hoffer once said, Propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves. Propaganda, biased news, will always influence people, but it does not have enough power to gain total control of someone s beliefs. People change their minds and let other people alter their thoughts, but it is still that same person making his own decisions. As portrayed in the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The quote by Eric Hoffer, Propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves, means that when someone is introduced to something biased, he chooses to believe it which harms himself. For example, when children see a toy that looks pretty and fun, they immediately want that toy. The producers of the toy make the toy look appealing to children so their parents would buy it for them even if the toy does not work. The children want the pretty toy so they trick themselves into thinking it will fun to play with because of its appearance, but if it does not work, it is the customer s fault for believing that the toy was worth buying. Another example is seeing ads on television. They always show the beneficial effects of something but they do not show what can go wrong. This makes the audience want to buy the product because they think it is perfect and does not have any bad effects. The audience buys the product thinking it will only be a benefit to them, when they probably wasted their money on a useless product. The people who decided to buy this made their own decision to buy it and this is what the quote is saying. During the 1860 s, society did not expect poor young women to become more than a housewife, let alone pursue a career in science. However, Marie Curie broke through these stereotypes and in doing so, inspired many women to follow in her footsteps. Many would believe that someone who has gained so much recognition in the scientific community and achieved their lifetime goal would have a positive outlook in life and a optimistic attitude. However, this was not the case for Marie Curie, who battled severe depression from an early age. A sound Information Technology (IT) infrastructure can be critical to a business organization s operational and financial success. A problem, or glitch, in a firm s IT infrastructure can cripple an organization and cause severe long term issues. Examples of such can be seen by examining the case of Knight Capital, the 2010 Dow Jones Flash Crash, and the use of High Frequency Trading (HFT) on Wall Street. HFT has been in use since the late 1700 s, although not in the form that we are familiar with today. Investors explored all available avenues to increase the speed of information, and gain a competitive advantage. Savvy traders crushed their competitors through purchasing faster ships, mail services, and early adoption of the telegraph. Today, HFT is algorithm based. Supercomputers react to market changes, such as price and timing, and automatically initiate trades without the need for human interaction. This has allowed investment firms to buy and sell stock at speeds thousands of times faster than an average floor trader, and reduce costs through economies of scale. Use of HFT has grown exponentially since the 1990 s. In 2012 alone, 6.4 billion shares were traded through some type of HFT. There are signs, though, that the growth of HFT is tapering off. Profits from HFT in 2014 are estimated at 1.25 billion dollars, down 74% from its 2009 peak of 4.9 billion. Nevertheless, it is still an integral part of the US Stock Market. • 25. Death And The King Horseman Analysis In an interview with The Guardian (2009) Wole Soyinka explained that the motivation behind writing Death and the King s Horseman was a bust of colonialist, Winston Churchill. To Soyinka, Churchill signified the breaking of the Yoruba culture and traditions. The idea for the play came from an instance during the colonial period in Nigeria, when the British intervened in the traditional suicide of a king s horseman. The title itself already makes reference to a Nigerian ritual in which the horseman of a king must kill himself after the death of the king (McNulty, 2011:2). The biggest event of cultural misunderstanding is evident in Act II when the British Officer, Pilkings, orders that Elesin Oba (the horseman) be arrested. Joseph (the stableboy) tells the Pilkingses how it is tradition for the king to be burried a month after his death but, before he can be burried, his dog, his steed and his horseman must die to be able to accompany him to heaven. For long this tradition is questioned and contested by the Pilkingses because how can something like that make sense to anybody? It is only once Olunde shows up in Act IV that the playwright changes the context. Olunde compares the suicide of the horseman to the mass killing of soldiers. He judges the Western customs of war in the same way the Westerners criticized his traditions and people. And when Simon manages to stop Elesin from killing himself, Olunde turns his back on his father at first, after which all the people from the market insults Elesin. His failure in the task is seen as a weak will. Another custom that is present is when, in Act II, the officer and his wife are getting ready for a ball and Amusa shows up. Amusa refuses to speak to Pilkings because of his costume, a uniform the Yoruban culture believes brings death. He tells Pilkings to put on other clothes as It is a matter of death. How can a man talk against death to a person in uniform of death? p25. The British officer cannot understand the rubbish because it is not part of his customs. It was not quick in adapting this belief to the new reality and importance of the PC potential, so during the 1980s and early 1990s, IBM was thrown into turmoil by back to back revolutions in the trends of the computer industry. The PC revolution placed computers directly in the hands of millions of people, and then, the client/server revolution sought to link all of those PCs (the clients ) with larger computers that labored in the background (the servers that served data and applications to client machines). Both revolutions transformed the way customers viewed, used and bought technology, and both fundamentally rocked IBM. 6. Specific Intervention Activities: When assessing what intervention activities would be the most help in addressing Haiti s health problem many underlying factors were considered. For a full list refer to Table 1 included in the Appendix. However, the critical factors targeted in this intervention come down to four focus areas. These priorities are: 1) provision of safe water and sanitation infrastructure, 2) carry out health education among community members, 3) fill critical healthcare gap, and 4) improve and increase epidemiological surveillance In a blog post written by Sokari Ekine, the Nigerian social justice activist explains that cholera is an illness exacerbated by heavy rains; poor sanitation; and limited clean water and associated poor hygiene (Ekine, 2013). These components factor largely into the chosen intervention activities. Haiti is an island that experiences significant flooding due to its location in the hurricane belt; this flooding makes access to safe water a major issue in a nation with flimsy infrastructure (World Health Organization, 2011). This program plans to restore and improve water and sanitation facilities for they are the main mode of transmission for the cholera bacterium. He says, while all human beings lead their lives towards the ultimate end, being God, it is how one will walk that path that will determine our eternal life. In this path, he refers to the importance of prudence. For it is prudence that allows one to choose the path that is right before God. Prudence, can therefore be described as one of the most important virtues one can have according to Thomas Aquinas. Having researched his works and his views on prudence, I now feel it is important to re evaluate my own moral living, in order to place a much greater emphasis on prudent living as it allows one to come closer to God and catch glimpses of His perfection. Therefore, I feel one of the most significant ways St. Thomas Aquinas has bettered my understanding of moral and ethical living, is through the importance of prudence, a virtue he obviously held in high regard. The second way by which St. Thomas Aquinas has influenced my understanding of moral and ethical living is through his teachings on temperance. Temperance is to seek pleasure rationally as Aquinas puts it. Not only does he speak much about this virtue in moral living, but he certainly lived it out. They can be very disrespectful and only think about their selves. Some major Supreme Court decisions that impacted the civil rights movement are: Plessy vs Ferguson, Brown vs Board of Education, and Loving vs Virginia. On June 7, 1892, 30 year old Homer Plessy was jailed for sitting in the white race car of the East Louisiana Railroad. Plessy could easily pass for white, but under Louisiana law, he was considered black despite his light colored skin and therefore required to sit in the colored race car. He was a Creole of Color, a term used to refer to black persons in New Orleans who traced some of their ancestors to the French, Spanish, and Caribbean settlers of Louisiana before it became part of the United States. When Louisiana passed the Separate Car Act, legally segregating common carriers in 1892, a black civil rights organization decided to challenge the law in the courts. Plessy purposely sat in the white section and identified himself as black and he was harassed because of it. He was arrested and the case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court. Mobile Ipv4 And Ipv6 Problems And Implementation Mobile IPv4 and IPv6 Problems and Implementation Mobile IPv4 and IPv6 are the future of mobile communications wirelessly and can help greatly in the infrastructure and combination of mobile systems and internet. This usage of IP addresses in mobile would increase the need for implementation of IPv6 as the new standard to replace IPv4 and increase the number of available addresses. However IP based mobile isn t perfect and has its own host of problems and those will be discussed as well later as well as possible fixes in short and long term to these problems. The main need to implement mobile IP is the fact that it can support more users and keep those users closer to the internet, meaning that the internet is integrated into the system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be a problem as more devices connect to and use a network the more data they use and can cause a network to become congested. A solution to reduce congestion is to use many small wireless receivers within the range of a large tower to spread out the devices upon smaller more confined networks when within cities and high density areas. And simply using long range low capacity towers when in the country side and places where fewer devices will be on a network at any given time, this is a combination of macro cells and micro cells to ensure network stability. At layer 2 comes the need to differentiate between devices on the network and needs a standard to work in place usually used at layer 2 in IP based communications over the internet is Ethernet II and uses MAC addresses differentiating between devices by using a hexadecimal format. This is done by burning a unique ID into a network card by a manufacturer, however rather than the normal Wi Fi a better option for long range communications is WiMAX. The differences in Wi Fi and WiMAX is that WiMAX has an effective distance of up to 90km while Wi Fi only has a range of up to 100m and data rates on WiMAX is up to 40mbps compared to Wi Fi with up to 54mbps. Next layer 3 the Network layer is where the Internet Protocol (IP) will take place and be defined. There are two options to use here IPv4 or IPv6. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Where is the line that is drawn from self defense to committing an act of violence? For years, cases on top of cases of violence have been reported. School shootings, fights, murder, acts of theft, and countless others, all in which happen on a daily basis, but where does the line get drawn from what is right and wrong in a situation. The origin of violence lies within the case itself, as no case of violence is ever exactly the same, the beliefs, the situation, and the scenario all have different origins for violence. Every individual s beliefs are different from one another. Based on beliefs, in the 21st century, society follows their beliefs and tends to be quite close minded to the thought of any belief that goes against or is not in favor of their own. If an individual believes that that what they did in a violence scenario was right, their mind can not easily be changed. Belief systems can also go into a huge psychological argument as ... • 48. Qualitative Research and Data Analysis 2.1.6 Data analysis In qualitative research, data analysis is a process of making meaning where the researcher has to actively create meaning out of the raw materials (Esterberg, Kristin G., 2002). The process of making meaning out of qualitative data is often iterative, meaning that there is a repetitive interplay between the collection and analysis of data (Bryman and Bell, 2007). Altogether 5 interviews were conducted with the tour operators in Denmark that are selling travel packages to Nepal. Firstly, interview was conducted with Kipling travels (31ST March, 2014) and then interviews were made with Dagama travels (2nd April, 2014), FDM travels (2nd April, 2014), Albatros travels (24th April, 2014) and lastly C C travels (29th April, 2014). All of the interviews were conducted on different days except interviews with Dagama travels and FDM travels. The findings from the first interview were also used to ask questions in the following interviews and there was constant interplay between the data analysis of the previous interview and the data collection from the next interview. In this way, information gained from the first interview and the subsequent interviews were used, to ask questions, in the interviews done later on. • 49. A Doll’s House and The Cherry Orchard Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard were famous for the way in which they depicted the changing of cultures. Both plays act as a sort of social commentary during times of widespread liberation, and use the contortive nature of these seemingly stereotypical characters actions to speak about groups of people as a whole. Throughout the course of both plays, this subversion of how different groups of people were typically perceived created a distinct contrast which often shocked and appalled audiences of the time. However, the effects of these plays were felt long after they were presented. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House, written in 1879, is set in late 19th century Norway. Upon publication, Ibsen s biting ... I felt quite certain that the wonderful thing was going to happen at last. . .I was so absolutely certain that you would come forward and take everything upon yourself (Ibsen 70). Torvald responds, in accordance with popular male thinking, No man would sacrifice his honor for the one he loves (Ibsen 70). At this point, Nora decides she must leave Torvald. This decision is the ultimate act of insubordination, as no woman of late 19th century Norway would have dared to act in such a bold way. As the play concludes, Torvald is left sad and weak, his masculinity diminished, but realizing that the way which he treated Nora was improper and immoral. The final line leaves a lingering hint of hope for a resolution, tying together the social commentary with a possible solution: more equal treatment of women. Likewise, Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard also uses subversion techniques and insubordination in order to bring to light many prevailing social themes of late 19th century Russia. During this period of time, Russia was faced with a massive change. In 1861, serfdom was eradicated in Russia and serfs were freed.
