FAMU Connection Concert Report
This past Wednesday night, I watched a high energy performance by FAMU Connection. This
performance took me on a flight that I hoped would never end. This journey demonstrated Goethe s
three elements portraying a storyline dealing with a group of college students. FAMU Connection was
about a group of friends, from different places on a plane heading to Tallahassee, Florida, to attend
college. However, one of their friends was not quite sure if FAMU was the right choice. During the
flight, the flight attendants were stating the facts about Florida Agricultural One of Goethe s questions
he would ask was what the artist was trying to do. I believe the actors were trying to persuade the
audience to attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical

The History Of Sytech And Gene Therapy
All you need to know about Gene therapy
Sytech Curing the future
The history of SyTech and Gene therapy
Gene therapy was introduced in 1985 by SyTech and has been the main priority of the company ever
since due to its promising future in science. One of the first human gene therapy procedures involved
injecting the correct ADA gene to a four year old girl with the ADA deficiency. Due to the success of
the procedure, the patient is now living a healthy life. The success marked an important landmark in
human history, one that has the potential to change the future. What is gene therapy?
In short, gene therapy is a method in which DNA Is used to fix a genetic problem. These problems can
include missing or genes that don t work. The right genes are delivered to the cell via harmless viruses
for their provirus properties. The viruses then insert the good copy of the gene into the patients DNA
where the cells machinery reads the information like a manual and makes RNA proteins so when it
divides, ideally, the problem will be fixed. There are two types f gene therapy: Germline (targets
egg/sperm cells; stops disease in its tracks) and somatic (targets somatic cells; after the disease is
active). The methods for gene therapy that are being tested include:
Replacing the non working copy of a gene with a healthier one
Bringing new genes entirely for those that don t exist
Bring a new gene to fight/fix the disease.
Obstacles to overcome:
SyTech is one of the only companies

Nutrition Personal Statement Essay
Personal Statement
My grandmother has her type 2 Diabetes Mellitus for almost 30 years. My grandmother herself and
my families believe that all my grandmother s adversities are contributed solely to the affection of the
illness and no other patient s lifestyle, the influence from other members opinion and action, and the
incomplete education from a professional person. After becoming a clinical nutrition student, it
astonishes me that my grandmother, being a patient with Type 2 DM for a long time, has no idea about
carbohydrate accounting and lifestyle modification, and instead she avoids everything with
carbohydrate inappropriately but does consume high fat foods frequently. It also surprises me that
other family members, accompanying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Privacy Is The Primary Guideline For The Privacy
Privacy in America is developing into a vague set of rules. Each person has a right to privacy, but the
question remains: How much information should be granted to the public ? The answer to this
question varies from person to person. The industries, social networking, protection agency, and
everyday situations create their own ideology of what must remain private.
The Evolution of Privacy To begin, the constitution is the primary guideline for the privacy rights in
America. This may begin to address the problem but it does not set its limitations. Opinions differ in
each individual. During the prohibition period Olmstead was prosecuted for trying to smuggle and sell
alcohol. Police (without a warrant) wire tapped his phone to find ... Show more content on

Examples of Privacy Interference Overwhelmingly, there is so many cases of privacy infringement
that it is rather concerning. HeLa is one of the most provincial and revolutionary cell strain in the
medical field. HeLa cells originated from Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was a Black woman in
times of segregation. Her only option for a hospital was Johns Hopkins. She needed to have them
remove a tumor in her cervix. The doctor in charge of pathology at the time was Dr. George Otto Gey.
He asked for tissue samples whenever available. The problem with cells is that they die off rather
quick unless they are in the body still. Henrietta Lack s cells viability was stronger than any other. The
cells would keep reproducing outside the body. Even as Henrietta Lacks has moved on, her cells kept
reproducing. The only mistake that came from this discovery was that the doctors never even tried to
consult with Henrietta on the whereabouts of her tissues. They had taken it without her knowledge and
run tests without giving her information that they learned from them. It was not until the doctors
wanted to run tests on the children that the family even knew. (Skloot 13) This might be because the
family was known to be a vulnerable type. They did not know much what was going on, so they had
just assumed the doctor was doing what was best for the patient. Instead the doctors had more concern

Comparing The Diary Of Lady Murasaki And The Tale Of Genji
Did you know that there was a time where black teeth were considered beautiful? Or that the
stationary a poem was written on was just as important the poem itself? These customs are showcased
in both The Diary of Lady Murasaki and The Tale of Genji, which are both written by Murasaki
Shikibu and set in the Heian period of Japan. Poetry and story writing were highly valued art forms
during this period, poems were usually printed on beautifully decorated stationary. As for stories, most
of them were written by women and considered classics of the time. Aesthetics were also highly
valued. From the way a ladies hair was done, the color choice of her clothing, the blackness of her
teeth, and makeup. All of these were considered determining factors of status. As for religion, during
this time it was heavily influenced by Buddhism and Shintoism. During the Heian period a huge
emphasis was placed on art, aesthetics, and religion, which is prominently featured in The Diary of
Lady Murasaki and The Tale of Genji. Poetry, music, and art were considered the most important
human accomplishments in this time period , not only was poetry a valued art form it was also a
source of expression. Lovers would use poetry as a means to communicate their love. These affairs
would either be successful or not according to the sensitivity of the poem and the beauty of the writer
s handwriting. This is seen in The Diary of Lady Murasaki when Murasaki wrote a poem to a dear
friend whom she

Essay On Getting Organized For Divorce
Getting Organized for Divorce
A divorce is an emotional, stressful, and exhausting time in a couple s life. The dissolution of a
marriage, when paired with attempting to understand the legal process of a divorce, is overwhelming
and confusing for most individuals. Although this is a difficult time, each party must try to set
emotions aside and prepare for each phase of the divorce process.
In any divorce, there are a number of issues that must be resolved. Property must be divided, and
custody and visitation with the couple s children must be arranged. Will alimony be paid? Will the
divorce proceed on a fault based ground, or is one spouse accusing the other of causing the divorce?
Each party must consider the claims and defenses in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, many individuals become blinded by their emotions, and make irrational decisions
during this time that damage their case. If you are going through a divorce, make sure to follow these
tips.
Listen to your divorce attorney. Your attorney s job is to offer objective, rational advice throughout the
case. If your attorney says that certain actions should or should not be taken, follow that advice.
Do not play games. When your spouse s attorney asks for certain documents during the case, or seeks
certain information, do not pretend that you do not have it or cannot get it. Such behavior is not
tolerated well by judges.
Remain honest throughout the divorce process. You may be held in contempt of court or be ordered to
pay your spouse s attorneys fees if you are caught lying during sworn testimony or in notarized
statements.
You must be open with your attorney. If you made mistakes during the marriage, own up to them so
that your attorney may prepare accordingly. Your attorney does not want to find out that you had an
affair during a court proceeding.
Similarly, stay in touch with your attorney and keep your attorney informed as to issues you and your
spouse discuss so that your attorney may take appropriate action when

Agatha Christie s Witness for the Prosecution Essay
This paper will present a compare and contrast of the short story, Witness for the Prosecution to the
screenplay of the same name written by Agatha Christie. The focus of the similarities and differences
will be, a review of the characters and the story.
In both versions there are both likable and unlikable characters that create a gripping tale where you
find yourself hoping young Leonard Vole will beat the overwhelming odds stacked against him. Vole
has been accused of murdering the late Mrs. Finch and in both he is represented by the defense
attorney, Mr. Mayherne (changed later in the screenplay to Mayhew). However, in the screenplay
Mayherne is the assistant of Sir Wilfrid Robarts, Q.C. Sir Robarts plays a foremost roll in ... Show

Leonard, the accused, Mayherne the defense lawyer, Romaine the wife of the accused, the deceased
Mrs. Finch and her maid Janet MacKenzie all play chief rolls in Christie s creation; however, it is Sir
Robarts who is the most notable addition.
While the characters, are mostly the same, with the addition of some others, their parts in the story
differ as much as does the ending of both. Leonard again is the accused, and Mayherne his defense,
but Mayherne acts as a bit of a detective in the story and does little in the way of sleuthing in the play.
The old woman, Mrs. Finch, while saved from a speeding bus by Loenard in both accounts, is later
reunited with her savior at a party in the short story and in the play she finds him at the theater. None
of this really impacts either story because in both instances her only purpose for being in the story is
so she can fulfill the role in the classic style of all who done its by being the one who gets bludgeoned
to death. In both cases, Leonard s wife plays the evil woman out to do in her husband and lie about his
whereabouts the night of the murder. Mayherne interviews Romaine at her home in the original, but in
the play she meets Mayherne and Sir Robarts at their office early in the play. When Romaine learns
she is Leonard s only alibi, she leads Mayherne and Robarts to believe that she intendeds to sabotage
her husband s defense. However, while Romaine provides a stirring distraction for

helped Cortes in increasing the size of armed forces and also helped him in getting information about
the size of forces of Aztec, their strategies and how they could recognize the leaders, which lead to

Second point could be the differences in their warfare, as Cortes just fought to kill and conquer but

The Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists...
For being over eight hundred years, the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists
remained in remarkable condition. However, pieces of the original piece, which originated in the
Catalan chapel in Spain, have faded. Portions, especially along the bottom, have disappeared over
time. Even though historians moved it to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, it has not been fully
restored. The artist identified each of the apostles in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four
Evangelists, but the writing has grown fainter and this creates a difficulty for art historians. Another
key factor in the overall story represented has faded one of the lamps or incense holders beneath

The Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists uses an interesting technique in its apse,
compared to previous Byzantine decorations in apses. It incorporates the technique of fresco painting,
where artists painted pigments into the plaster and wood on the walls so the paint would become one
with the walls similar to methods used in ancient Greece, compared to exercising mosaics as
decorations in apses. The artist mostly employed primary pigments in the Christ in Majesty with
Symbols of the Four Evangelists to make the figures stand out. A repetition occurs in the pigments
with red, gold like yellow, and blue with the occasional purple and the hair colors vary with tones of
brown and grayish white. The style portrayed in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four
Evangelists follows previous rules with the representation of divine figures in churches. The
proportions of the piece utilizes the hierarchy scale with the most important figure Christ. The figure
of Christ is the largest image shown in the apse, and other figures such as the apostles, the four
symbols of the evangelists, and the scenes from the New Testament are roughly the same size. The
smallest figures appear in the windows the sacrifice scenes with Cain and Abel. The artist employed a

The Myths of Families Essay
Question 1: In The Way We Never Were, Stephanie Coontz suggests that society romanticizes past
generations of family life and points out that these memories are merely myths that prevent us from
dealing more effectively with the problems facing today s families (Coontz x). Coontz proposes that
researchers can take empirical data and create misleading causality for that data, thus feeding cultural
myth and/or experience. Coontz believes that an overemphasis on personal responsibility for
strengthening family values encourages a way of thinking that leads to moralizing rather than
mobilizing for concrete reforms (Coontz 22). She calls on us to direct our attention to social reforms,
which can be accomplished by avoiding victim blaming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coontz calls on her readers to avoid victim blaming strategies and to try to ask questions that raise
demands for social reform in order to decrease this conflict. In Fun Home, Alison Bechdel
demonstrates how myth and stereotyping contribute to the construction of prejudice. Alison s father,
Bruce Bechdel, lived a false life by denying his sexual orientation and created the illusion of a normal
family life. By marrying a female and creating offspring, he perpetuated the public illusion that he had
the perfect home and family. Despite this myth of perfect domestication, the true private life of the
Bechdel family could be described as dysfunctional. Bechdel witnessed only two gestures of action
between (Bechdel 68) her parents, which consisted of her father giving her mother a chaste peck
before leaving on a weekend trip (Bechdel 68) and one time when her mother put her hand on his back
(Bechdel 68) as they watched television. Bechdel writes how on both occasions, she was astonished
and discomforted (Bechdel 68) and suggests that both her mother and father preferred fiction to reality
(Bechdel 85). Both Bruce Bechdel and his wife, lived in a world where they did not acknowledge
reality; it was easier for them to live a lie then to come to terms with Bruce s homosexual identity. The
conflict within the family could be attributed to Bruce s suppression of his sexuality, which in turn,
could be attributed to growing up in a time period when it was

We Have Not Long To Love Mood
Research Paper and Poem Analysis: Tennessee Williams We Have Not Long To Analyze This Poem
Remember a time when the adrenaline ran through you, speeding your every movement, and the
nervous feeling that overtook your entire body. Now remember a time when you felt relaxed and calm,
like the clock stopped and time stood still. Now, as strange as it sounds, imagine those two feelings
combining. This surreal state seems to describe the mood of the twenty line poem We Have Not Long
to Love by playwright and poet Tennessee Williams. This poem reflects that feeling when you know
there s no time and you must act quickly, but time seems not to move. The word choice, in the
beginning, reflects a rushed feeling We have not long to love. / Light does not stay. (Williams 1 2).
Then the poem suddenly changes the mood to relaxed, like there s enough time for anything, In
silence I have watched you / comb your hair. (7 8). Further statements, I could but did not, reach / to
touch your arm. / I could, but do not, break / that which is still. (11 14) give the impression that he is

Endgame Figurative Language
Mankind has always had one question no living person can answer. What is the meaning of our
existence? Are we just here to just run around this planet doing nothing but survive or does everything
we do have a purpose? Samuel Beckett, a well studied French writer, seems to write in a way that
makes his readers feel like mankind cannot find its identity. He validates the idea that humans are just
wondering about life with no meaning with his writing in Endgame. Samuel Beckett s Endgame uses
Freud s psycho analytical idea of melancholia to develop the thought that life is meaningless. The
bleak diction, connotation, and symbolism used makes man rethink the meaning of existence. The idea
that mankind has no meaning in Endgame is explained through ... Show more content on

As people get older they experience more, which gives them the chance to be let down, and
disappointed. When this happens people get led into Freud s idea that once they get let down they
become trapped in a world of disappointment as shown when Hamm states, I once knew a madman
who thought the end of the world had come. He was a painter and engraver. I had a great fondness for
him. I used to go and see him, in the asylum. I d take him by the hand and drag him to the window.
Look! There! All that rising corn! And there! Look! The sails of the herring fleet! All that loveliness!
(Pause.) He d snatch away his hand and go back into his corner. Appalled. All he had seen was ashes.
(Pause.) He alone had been spared. (Pause.) Forgotten. (Pause.) It appears the case is ... was not so ...
so unusual (Beckett). The madman is just an older gentleman who sees no meaning in the world,
therefore he is seen as crazy to Hamm. The way Hamm describes the madman suggest they are
suffering from the same pathological sickness. When the characters look out the window they see
nothing but grey just as the madman did. Dilworth explains Beckett s personal connection to the
madman when he states, Furthermore, Artaud, like Beckett s nameless figure, was mad, suffering for
most of his life from schizophrenia (Dilworth). This quote explains how Beckett had a close who was
very much like the madman which suggest that the character in his play was based of his friend. The
madman is a symbol of melancholia feelings and mourning for his friend. Beckett writes the play as if
all people become that madman who sees nothing but ashes when they look out the window because
of wounded egos. He uses the madman as a symbol to create the illusion that all humans will
eventually see the world as meaningless and ponder

Necrophilia Murder
Necrophilia and its Relation to Murder Necrophilia is defined as, recurrent sexually arousing fantasies,
sexual urges, or behaviors involving intercourse with dead bodies (Colman, 2009) Necrophilia in the
past has been something that presented itself as an opportunity because of where someone worked.
Professions that had people dealing with corpses on a daily basis lead to a form of comfort around the
bodies, then when a person became curious they would start to experiment with the bodies. There are
rumors that this was popular with the embalmers of ancient Egypt and that it became necessary that
the bodies of highly born women were not embalmed immediately after death but allowed to become
slightly putrid, as a deterrent. (Blakemore, Jennett, 2001) Krafft Ebing suggested that the attraction

(Rathus, 2005) Necrophilic fantasies have been considered therapeutically to result from childhood
trauma. Sometimes this can result from a humiliation, often from the mother, in regards to the human

that is incapable of resistance or of rejection. Referring back to Ted Bundy, his relationship with his

Essay On Transient Stability
Rotor Angle Stability Classification and Assessment Technique
This chapter proposes a hybrid stability assessment method, i.e., combine both time domain and direct
methods, for detection, classification and assessment of the transient and small signal dynamic
stability. The proposed energy function in chapter 3 is used to calculate the system energy. Then, the
overall system energy is compared to the sum of the critical energies of the critical series components
which can be determined using the proposed time to instability index. The HVDC system impact on
the system stability assessment technique is also discussed. A termination criterion for stable cases is

Moreover, the expected separation area(s), i.e., power system islands, and the critical series
components, i.e., islands boundaries using the equivalent of parallel components, are not accurately
determined. The simplest example of the direct methods is the EAC. The EAC method is enhanced to
be applicable to multi machine systems, i.e., extended equal area criterion (EEAC) [82]. The EEAC
method reduces the interconnected system into a two equivalent machine system or a single machine
infinite bus. Hence, this method can be used only for the classical generator equivalent model, i.e.,
swing equation model or second order model [76],[6]. An attempt has been made to overcome the
limitations of both time domain and Lyapunov like functions by combining them, i.e., hybrid methods
[6],[5]. The hybrid method also can be the result of combining time domain and EEAC methods [83],
i.e., Single Machine Equivalent (SIME) Method, to allow the use of detailed generator models.
However, they are valid only for unstable cases and fault duration relatively close to the fault clearing
time [76]. Also, all direct methods depend on the fault on trajectory [84] which is not accurate for a
fault followed by tripping a line and it is not valid for other contingencies not associated with faults.
Machine learning/pattern recognition techniques also are used for transient stability

Analysis Of Taxi Driver
Written by Paul Schrader and directed by Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver is a movie designed around a
marine veteran, Travis, who becomes a taxi driver in New York. He sets off to have a relationship like
he sees all over town. However, Travis is pretty bad about forming relationships even with coworkers
which spill into a relationship he tries to form and utterly fails. Besides being rejected he originally
seems like he is going down the wrong path, but the sequence of events changes and he becomes a
hero . Overall, this movie was created wonderfully and the amazing acting performance from Robert
De Niro as Travis really took this film to another level. The acting on top of the music and the
background of the city throughout the movie allows the viewer to feel like they are in the streets of
New York with them. One of the best scenes was when Travis went on a date with Betsy after taking
her to breakfast. For the date Travis decides to take her to an adult film playing at a movie theater and
she even says she doesn t like these types of movies. Travis assures her the movie is good and during
the movie Betsy leaves the theater telling Travis how horrible it was. This is one of the first scenes
that allow us to understand something is not exactly right with Travis. This with the inability to sleep
and being a veteran leads the audience to believe he has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The fact that
Travis sees nothing wrong with the movie selection is a key part to

The trip would bring some 600 men, five ships and two pinnaces to take control of the new land.
There would be a minister, military members, smiths, carpenters, cooks, shoe makers, coopers, store

some men over first to set up a beach head. Then he would send some 200 more men to strengthen
their positions. Then settlers and more supplies would be next. If the ships were to get separated, they
were to meet in Puerto Rico. A massive storm off the coast of Portugal separated the Tiger (which was
Grenville s ship) from the rest of the fleet. While waiting for the other ships, Grenville established
relations with the Spanish while also plundering their ships. Grenville eventually got tired of waiting
for the other ships. Grenville decided to leave Ralph Lane and 107 men to establish a colony at the
north end of Roanoke Island. The group left the ship on August 17, 1585 and built a small fort,
believing that Grenville would return in April 1586 with more men and supplies. To this day they have

Reaction Paper About Mermaids
Mermaids those half human, half fish sirens of the ocean are fabulous ocean animals recorded on
oceanic societies since time immemorial. The name comes from mer meaning sea, and the male
version is called Merman. But can such a creature really exist? Between a myth and a reality, the
Mermaids topic has raised a lot of conflicts and questions. People wondered how such a creature could
be real. A lot of Researches were made, a lot of fossils were observed, in order to find answers. From
Greek mythology to sailors testimony, Mermaids have various hypothesizes.

The most prevalent myth was that Mermaids attract sailors by their beautiful voice, and when sailors
arrive, they face their destinies. In other words, they can be carriers of terrible fortune, capable of
causing storms and slaughtering people. However, some Greek myths described Mermaids as helpful
to everyone; when they were in a decent state of mind, they would safeguard people. In a silvery cave,
live the golden haired Nereids or sea nymphs that helped sailors fighting perilous storms. (A mermaid
and a magic comb)
Moreover, mermaids are too frequently said to be able to love humans after which they set out to
discover a cure to get freed of their fish tail for legs.
But does Mermaids really exist?
Ichthyologist made a lot of researches on Mermaids, including looking at fossils and sea history. They
found no evidence of aquatic humanoids. They added that what sailors saw was probably the Mentees
creature , which has the same size of humans. No one has ever captured a Mermaid. . In addition, the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration posted a statement on its website denouncing the
supposed existence of the half human, half fish beings. No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever
been found.

The Goal By Eliyahu M. A Brief
I chose to read the book, The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. The book is about a plant manager, Alex
Rogo, who is trying to save his plant from getting shut down by using the help of physicist, Jonah, and
the Theory of Constraints. I can see the benefits of this book in different areas, not only in the ability
to increase productivity in any company, but also using the ideas in all other areas of your life. I
personally had a difficult time understanding this book. It took me reading it, then going back and re
reading part of it, to really understand how to apply the concepts. However, I do finally get it. The two
key things that I enjoyed about the book are dependent events in relation to statistical fluctuations and
bottlenecks vs non bottlenecks. When reading the chapter about dependent events in relation to
statistical fluctuations , Goldratt use the example of a Boy Scouts hiking trip, where the slowest boy
was in the back, and one of the faster boys were in the front. One would think that this was a great
idea and would help them get to their destination fast, but in reality it did the exact opposite. It made
the process much slower, because the boy in the front set the pace for the rest of the group, but
because the rest of the group had slower paces, they were unable to keep up with the demand, if you
will, which resulted in a gap in the line. These gaps in the line caused the last person in the line, which
happened to be Alex, to have to wait on the rest of

The Black Swan Movie
This extreme of wanting to be the greatest is no surprise, as it is often seen in athletes worlds. There is
pressure from the coach, the parents, and of course, from themselves. However, perfect may have a
different significance for each person, it is all comparative and subjective. It is magnificent when one
is motivated and strives for excellence in everything, but it is important to find out where that drive is
coming from. It may be motivated by reward and praise from other people, or from an internal drive
of satisfying oneself. Still, there is a world outside of being perfect, and it is crucial to find out where
the control is coming from and try to handle it. It could be both, but if the control is weighted too
much on one side, that s when issues can develop, like eating disorders and other fixations. Individuals
who scored higher on more negative aspects of perfectionism were also more debilitated by their
anxiety symptoms (Nordin Bates, 2011). This can clearly be seen in Nina s character in The Black
Swan, where she has mental breakdowns almost every night after a ballet practice. There is so much
pressure, and it drives Nina to a point where she cannot strop scratching herself. She starts getting
delusions and viewers can see that she is becoming schizophrenic. It is visible in seemingly everyone
at the dance studio, for example when one girl did not get into the play, she broke everything in her
way because of all the stress of getting that part. In Wishing

In Jarrell, the court established a legal standard for adequate warning. According to the decision in

means a visible sign. In her restaurant, our client had two warnings. One was placed on the menu and
the other was the 3 x 5 cards on the tables, interview 2: 21, which could have been sufficient to

Edna Pontellier as a Feminist in Kate Chopin’s The Awakening
Since the beginning of time social constrictions have always retained a firm grasp on the ideas and
actions of humanity. While it remains a formidable foe, still some choose to fight back against the
norm. This never ending war is responsible for major advancements in the social order, but not every
story is so successful. In Kate Chopin s The Awakening , Edna Pontellier finds herself fighting this
very battle that, although begins with a positive outlook, ultimately ends in her demise. Throughout
The Awakening , Edna is immersed in a constant clash with society over the significance of the
difference between her life and her self. To Edna, the question of whether or not she would die for her
children is somewhat simple. Edna attempts to explain this concept to her good friend, Adele
Ratignolle, but to no avail, I would give up the unessential; I would give my money, I would give my
life for my children; but I wouldn t give myself (Chopin 62). Not only does Edna consider her life
unessential, she categorizes it as equal with material objects such as money. The idea of self, on the
other hand, lies on a completely different level in Edna s mind. The most important goal to Edna in
her life is the journey to discover her true character. The idea that her inner self is more essential than
life or even her children causes Edna to stray farther from the social constraints of the typical domestic
woman. Kathleen M. Streater weighs in on Edna s situation and placement in

Employees Motivation A business seeks profit by provided customers with goods and services
(Schoell, et al 15). There are various types of businesses that differ according to their ownership. The
three basic forms of private ownership businesses are the sole proprietorship (i.e. sole trader),
partnership, and corporation (Schoell, et al 132). The type of ownership that a business organization
would apply is dependent on the owner s financial status and objectives. Apart from the different types

The autocratic style of leadership would be considered the most task oriented type, in which the
manager carry out all the decision making process without any consultations from subordinates.
Communication is one way, where the work provided by the manager is to be done without any
modifications by the subordinates. In this style of leadership, the delegation of authority is centralized,
meaning that the decision making is only performed by top line managers and is rarely delegated to
subordinates along the chain of command (Bovee, et al 476 8). The democratic leadership style is
more of a participative type of leadership (Schoell, et al 286). It is a two way communication
leadership, in which employees are allowed to contribute in the decision making; however, the
manager makes the final decision. The delegation of authority in this style of leadership is less
centralized and more decentralized than in the autocratic style. Employees feel more flexible, since
they are allowed to modify in the methods of accomplishing the tasks and to contribute in the decision
making. This changes the working environment; making it an environment with a lot of team working,
where each employee feels that he plays an essential role in the well being of the business (Bovee, et

The Delphi Technique is based on the Hegelian Principle of achieving Oneness of Mind through a
three step process of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. In thesis and antithesis, all present their opinion
or views on a given subject, establishing views and opposing views. In synthesis, opposites are
brought together to form the new thesis. All participants are then to accept ownership of the new thesis
and support it, changing their own views to align with the new thesis. Through a continual process of
evolution, Oneness of Mind will supposedly occur.
The theory of the Delphi and the reality of the Delphi are, obviously, quite different the reality being
that Oneness of Mind does not occur but only the illusion of Oneness of Mind with those who refuse
to be Delphi d being alienated from participating in the process.
While proponents of education reform feel they are quite justified in this, the effect of this unethical

My Experience With Severe Anxiety
When I reflect on everything that has happened thus far in my lifetime, I am amazed at how far I have
come. I was born on May 31st, 1998. My mom was in college when she had me, and my father
worked two jobs to support the family. They worked incredibly hard to make sure that I had a good
and comfortable life. They never gave up, even when they were loaded with their many
responsibilities, because they cared so much for me and my future. I truly admire them for that. They
instilled the value of preserving, and never giving up, no matter how tough your challenges in life are.
This value is very important to me, and I believe that I would not be where I am today if I didn t stay
true to this value. This value has been especially important when I have had to deal with severe
anxiety.
I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. The anxiety became especially intense during my freshman
year of high school. It began to severely interfere with my schooling, to the point where I could not
even attend school. I many attempts to continue to attend school, but these attempts would often end
with me having a severe panic attack. This constant failure to attend school sent me into a bout of
depression. All of these factors led to the decision for me to be put into home hospital, where I would
do all my schoolwork at home, and work with a teacher who came to my house for an hour each day.
This would allow me to focus on receiving professional help with my anxiety. I met with a therapist

Limitations Of Racist Speech
Limits on Racist Speech in Public Contexts
When the first amendment is brought up, one of the first things that comes to mind is free speech.
Even though we don t give it much thought, our free speech does have limits. The more obvious limits
such as knowing that you can t threaten people or shout Fire! in a crowded space make sense because
it s easy to see how they cause direct harm. These general limits are important in order to ensure a safe
and peaceful society, but when it comes to voicing prejudice views, it becomes difficult to determine
what should and should not be restricted by the first amendment. After all, when negative and hurtful
opinions are directed at a specific group of people, it becomes hard to see how protecting them could
be a good thing. The important thing to remember is that when sharing these views becomes harmful
and leads to harassment, it is no longer protected under the first amendment. However, everyone sees
things differently, so drawing the line between what is just offensive and harassment needs to be
determined and treated on a case by case basis. This will not only allow us to come to a solution for
these individual problems, but it leaves room for discussion which will help to combat the root cause
of prejudice.
While trying to think of ways to regulate racist speech, we might think that an easy solution would be
to place a ban on racist speech altogether, but this quickly becomes problematic. Banning specific
opinions and beliefs would no longer make our speech free, and even when people are permitted to
share wrong or offensive opinions, protecting free speech still has more potential benefit than harm.
This gives us the right to speak out against our government when it is doing something we disagree
with, but it also allows people to share their racist views. If we want to continue to reap the benefits,
we also have to accept that racist speech is a part of free speech, thus protected under the first
amendment. This is not the same thing as saying that racist speech should be unregulated; there are
regulations for when hate speech becomes harmful, but the government shouldn t and isn t responsible
for regulating it. The issue of regulating racist speech is a local

British Columbia And Prairie West
INTRODUCTION
British Columbia and Prairie West experienced many changes in economic, political, and social
developments. The great depression of 1930s was more devastating on the Canadian prairies than
other regions of Canada. It impacted badly on economy, social organization, and politics of the Prairie
region. Various factors such as low wheat prices in the international market, fall of export markets
during the depression, insufficient financial investments lowered the economy of the Prairie region.
The economic and political situation worsened in the British Columbia during the Depression as well
as after the World War II. The Prairie West depended on the farming as their main occupation while
British Columbia depended on forestry, mining and fishing. After the World War II, the Prairie West
witnessed Alberta dominated by the energy industry whereas Saskatchewan and Manitoba maintained
their economy by the replacing the farm sectors with the economic sectors. British Colombia acquired
its name in energy and transportation sectors. The post 1945 period experienced differences in class,
race, gender, and ethnicity. Prairie and British Columbia underwent changes such as population
variability, establishment of national social insurance programs etc. In 2000s, the energy companies
made its way towards Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Analysis Of Chekhov s The Brothers Karamazov
Chekhov s use of allusion in Misery also stands in stark contrast to the works of other Russian literary
giants such as Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, whose works often featured deep themes revolving around the
aforementioned Christian thought. While a deep discussion on these themes is out of the scope of this
paper, perhaps one of the most obvious and contrasting examples can be found in Dostoevsky s The
Brothers Karamazov, which was published around 6 years before Chekhov wrote Misery . Towards
the end of the novel, Father Zosima, a figure who acts as a mouthpiece for Dostoevsky s own thoughts
on religion, indirectly responds to the arguments of Ivan Karamazov, who rejects God because of the

But Jonah is not humbled and reverent as Job is. Instead, Jonah prayed to the Lord and said, O Lord, is
not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I
knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and
relenting from disaster (Jonah 4:2). Jonah refuses to simply accept God s message, and instead
challenges God to explain why he even had to go through his journey in the first place. When God
responds, the Book of Jonah simply ends, and we never hear from Jonah again. The final image of
Jonah is of him sitting under a wilting plant, fuming and wishing for an end to his life. Thus Jonah
himself is in fact one of the more miserable figures of the Bible. It is only appropriate that Chekhov
chose such an unorthodox figure, rather than someone like Job, to connect to the misery of his
protagonist. Jonah s questioning of God even when facing his literal presence is also appropriate given
Chekhov s own questioning of faith. Jonah, in a Chekhovian fashion, focuses on the realities of what
he had to go through, rather than being humbled and indulging in Job s deep, yet clear cut answers and
happy ending. The allusion to Jonah in Misery serves only to introduce a hint of Christian metaphysics
into the story, providing Chekhov with an opportunity to deconstruct its influence in society and in the
works of his

The Feminine Mystique Summary
In this chapter of The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan denounces a fundamental notion of the
mystique: The role for women in the home is equal to the role of men in society. To further explain
this notion, she makes use of several different rhetorical devices such as antithesis, when she
establishes a connection between the dreadful physical and mental health of full time housewives plus
men working on assembly lines, and she does so in order to accentuate the hidden problems of
alcoholism, obesity, chronic fatigue, and lack of interest in sex due to preconceived ideas about gender
roles. Moreover, she makes use of logos, when she provides her readers with statistics about how

Discuss The Effects Of Ww2 On African American Women
The postwar period starting in 1945 was a time of economic boom and a shared sense of unity in the
United States, or so it seemed. Although the unemployment rate was zero percent women and African
American workers were becoming increasingly unhappy with their roles in the American post war
economy. Employment of women in America was at an all time high reaching 19 million by 1945.
However, the traditional gender roles between men and women created tension after the war due to
women s push for opportunity outside of their typical roles at home. In the post war period, African
American workers were still feeling a sense of segregation and inequality in the workforce. They were
usually the last to be hired, especially African American women,

Effects Of Texas Rebellion
Texas, initially Mexican territory, would lose this identity as diversity began to advance across the
state. Texas became full of diversity prior to the rebellion. Texas at the time was at its most diverse
(Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). There were visible cultural differences and practices.
However, the differences were hardly significant enough to propel Texas into a rebellion. The moment
the Anglos set foot in to Texas, the cultural differences were noticeable to both sides, but it was not
enough to deter either side from attempting to coexist (Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). The
Texas rebellion began to formulate at a time where the Anglo population began to peak. The rebellion

Political conflict, was a key component in multiple uprisings during the time. Economic motivations,
grew to a point where it never reached prior to the Jacksonian era. Social changes, divided a
significant amount of people within Texas itself. Cultural differences were notable and existed, but
they took on a smaller role compared to politics, economics, and social changes. While cultural
differences were present, they were not nearly enough to spark an entire rebellion. The cultural
differences made it difficult to easily assimilate, but hardly impossible. The inability to quickly adjust
to preceding expected cultural norms was a very unlikely reason for the rebellion. Weber, initially
presents a very valid argument of the cultural differences between Anglo Texans and Mexican Texans.
However, he makes it clear in his essay that despite the cultural differences, the main fight was
between the Mexican Texan and the centralist Mexican government (MPTH, 139). There is more than
enough evidence to support that the Texas rebellion would occur inevitably, as the discontent with the
Mexican leadership rose. Consequently, it appeared that both cultures were able to coexist
exceptionally. It is also leaves a curious question on whether culture assimilation, rather than cultural
differences lead to the Texas

  • 2. FAMU Connection Concert Report This past Wednesday night, I watched a high energy performance by FAMU Connection. This performance took me on a flight that I hoped would never end. This journey demonstrated Goethe s three elements portraying a storyline dealing with a group of college students. FAMU Connection was about a group of friends, from different places on a plane heading to Tallahassee, Florida, to attend college. However, one of their friends was not quite sure if FAMU was the right choice. During the flight, the flight attendants were stating the facts about Florida Agricultural One of Goethe s questions he would ask was what the artist was trying to do. I believe the actors were trying to persuade the audience to attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The History Of Sytech And Gene Therapy All you need to know about Gene therapy Sytech Curing the future The history of SyTech and Gene therapy Gene therapy was introduced in 1985 by SyTech and has been the main priority of the company ever since due to its promising future in science. One of the first human gene therapy procedures involved injecting the correct ADA gene to a four year old girl with the ADA deficiency. Due to the success of the procedure, the patient is now living a healthy life. The success marked an important landmark in human history, one that has the potential to change the future. What is gene therapy? In short, gene therapy is a method in which DNA Is used to fix a genetic problem. These problems can include missing or genes that don t work. The right genes are delivered to the cell via harmless viruses for their provirus properties. The viruses then insert the good copy of the gene into the patients DNA where the cells machinery reads the information like a manual and makes RNA proteins so when it divides, ideally, the problem will be fixed. There are two types f gene therapy: Germline (targets egg/sperm cells; stops disease in its tracks) and somatic (targets somatic cells; after the disease is active). The methods for gene therapy that are being tested include: Replacing the non working copy of a gene with a healthier one Bringing new genes entirely for those that don t exist Bring a new gene to fight/fix the disease. • 4. Nutrition Personal Statement Essay Personal Statement My grandmother has her type 2 Diabetes Mellitus for almost 30 years. My grandmother herself and my families believe that all my grandmother s adversities are contributed solely to the affection of the illness and no other patient s lifestyle, the influence from other members opinion and action, and the incomplete education from a professional person. After becoming a clinical nutrition student, it astonishes me that my grandmother, being a patient with Type 2 DM for a long time, has no idea about carbohydrate accounting and lifestyle modification, and instead she avoids everything with carbohydrate inappropriately but does consume high fat foods frequently. It also surprises me that other family members, accompanying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I work efficiently to keep my schoolwork satisfied and when finding that I cannot apply my nutrition knowledge in a clinical setting well, I devoted myself to reading numbers of scientific nutrition articles, following the newest findings, and having job to pragmatize my learning. Last but not least, I am good at analyzing and solving problems, which enable to be an independent learner and worker. However, I am not opinionated. When met with questions that I am not sure my solutions are the best, I would consult with the classmates, teammates and professor modestly and accept their advice with an open mind. This feature and transferable skills make me work quickly and efficiently to keep projects up to task and fit well in most teams. My weakness is not negligible. Even though I have a comprehensive and systematic study for nutrition, the four year elementary education is still insufficient to qualify the RD requirements. My only way to improve is to keep studying. As I am more interested in the medical nutrition, I will continue a master degree nutrition program to boost my nutrition knowledge. Moreover, I realized that working as a RD assumes a life long responsibility and I will continually strive to increase professional knowledge and skills to better help ... • 5. Privacy Is The Primary Guideline For The Privacy Privacy in America is developing into a vague set of rules. Each person has a right to privacy, but the question remains: How much information should be granted to the public ? The answer to this question varies from person to person. The industries, social networking, protection agency, and everyday situations create their own ideology of what must remain private. The Evolution of Privacy To begin, the constitution is the primary guideline for the privacy rights in America. This may begin to address the problem but it does not set its limitations. Opinions differ in each individual. During the prohibition period Olmstead was prosecuted for trying to smuggle and sell alcohol. Police (without a warrant) wire tapped his phone to find ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples of Privacy Interference Overwhelmingly, there is so many cases of privacy infringement that it is rather concerning. HeLa is one of the most provincial and revolutionary cell strain in the medical field. HeLa cells originated from Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta Lacks was a Black woman in times of segregation. Her only option for a hospital was Johns Hopkins. She needed to have them remove a tumor in her cervix. The doctor in charge of pathology at the time was Dr. George Otto Gey. He asked for tissue samples whenever available. The problem with cells is that they die off rather quick unless they are in the body still. Henrietta Lack s cells viability was stronger than any other. The cells would keep reproducing outside the body. Even as Henrietta Lacks has moved on, her cells kept reproducing. The only mistake that came from this discovery was that the doctors never even tried to consult with Henrietta on the whereabouts of her tissues. They had taken it without her knowledge and run tests without giving her information that they learned from them. It was not until the doctors wanted to run tests on the children that the family even knew. (Skloot 13) This might be because the family was known to be a vulnerable type. They did not know much what was going on, so they had just assumed the doctor was doing what was best for the patient. Instead the doctors had more concern for the industry and ... Or that the stationary a poem was written on was just as important the poem itself? These customs are showcased in both The Diary of Lady Murasaki and The Tale of Genji, which are both written by Murasaki Shikibu and set in the Heian period of Japan. The focus of the similarities and differences will be, a review of the characters and the story. In both versions there are both likable and unlikable characters that create a gripping tale where you find yourself hoping young Leonard Vole will beat the overwhelming odds stacked against him. Vole has been accused of murdering the late Mrs. Finch and in both he is represented by the defense attorney, Mr. Mayherne (changed later in the screenplay to Mayhew). While the characters, are mostly the same, with the addition of some others, their parts in the story differ as much as does the ending of both. Leonard again is the accused, and Mayherne his defense, but Mayherne acts as a bit of a detective in the story and does little in the way of sleuthing in the play. The old woman, Mrs. Finch, while saved from a speeding bus by Loenard in both accounts, is later reunited with her savior at a party in the short story and in the play she finds him at the theater. None of this really impacts either story because in both instances her only purpose for being in the story is so she can fulfill the role in the classic style of all who done its by being the one who gets bludgeoned to death. In both cases, Leonard s wife plays the evil woman out to do in her husband and lie about his whereabouts the night of the murder. Mayherne interviews Romaine at her home in the original, but in the play she meets Mayherne and Sir Robarts at their office early in the play. When Romaine learns she is Leonard s only alibi, she leads Mayherne and Robarts to believe that she intendeds to sabotage her husband s defense. • 12. The Myths of Families Essay Question 1: In The Way We Never Were, Stephanie Coontz suggests that society romanticizes past generations of family life and points out that these memories are merely myths that prevent us from dealing more effectively with the problems facing today s families (Coontz x). Coontz proposes that researchers can take empirical data and create misleading causality for that data, thus feeding cultural myth and/or experience. Coontz believes that an overemphasis on personal responsibility for strengthening family values encourages a way of thinking that leads to moralizing rather than mobilizing for concrete reforms (Coontz 22). Coontz calls on her readers to avoid victim blaming strategies and to try to ask questions that raise demands for social reform in order to decrease this conflict. In Fun Home, Alison Bechdel demonstrates how myth and stereotyping contribute to the construction of prejudice. Alison s father, Bruce Bechdel, lived a false life by denying his sexual orientation and created the illusion of a normal family life. By marrying a female and creating offspring, he perpetuated the public illusion that he had the perfect home and family. Despite this myth of perfect domestication, the true private life of the Bechdel family could be described as dysfunctional. Bechdel witnessed only two gestures of action between (Bechdel 68) her parents, which consisted of her father giving her mother a chaste peck before leaving on a weekend trip (Bechdel 68) and one time when her mother put her hand on his back (Bechdel 68) as they watched television. Bechdel writes how on both occasions, she was astonished and discomforted (Bechdel 68) and suggests that both her mother and father preferred fiction to reality (Bechdel 85). Both Bruce Bechdel and his wife, lived in a world where they did not acknowledge reality; it was easier for them to live a lie then to come to terms with Bruce s homosexual identity. The conflict within the family could be attributed to Bruce s suppression of his sexuality, which in turn, could be attributed to growing up in a time period when it was ... This surreal state seems to describe the mood of the twenty line poem We Have Not Long to Love by playwright and poet Tennessee Williams. This poem reflects that feeling when you know there s no time and you must act quickly, but time seems not to move. Are we just here to just run around this planet doing nothing but survive or does everything we do have a purpose? Samuel Beckett, a well studied French writer, seems to write in a way that makes his readers feel like mankind cannot find its identity. He validates the idea that humans are just wondering about life with no meaning with his writing in Endgame. Professions that had people dealing with corpses on a daily basis lead to a form of comfort around the bodies, then when a person became curious they would start to experiment with the bodies. There are rumors that this was popular with the embalmers of ancient Egypt and that it became necessary that the bodies of highly born women were not embalmed immediately after death but allowed to become slightly putrid, as a deterrent. Then, the overall system energy is compared to the sum of the critical energies of the critical series components which can be determined using the proposed time to instability index. The EEAC method reduces the interconnected system into a two equivalent machine system or a single machine infinite bus. Hence, this method can be used only for the classical generator equivalent model, i.e., swing equation model or second order model [76],[6]. An attempt has been made to overcome the limitations of both time domain and Lyapunov like functions by combining them, i.e., hybrid methods [6],[5]. However, they are valid only for unstable cases and fault duration relatively close to the fault clearing time [76]. There is pressure from the coach, the parents, and of course, from themselves. However, perfect may have a different significance for each person, it is all comparative and subjective. It is magnificent when one is motivated and strives for excellence in everything, but it is important to find out where that drive is coming from. It may be motivated by reward and praise from other people, or from an internal drive of satisfying oneself. Still, there is a world outside of being perfect, and it is crucial to find out where the control is coming from and try to handle it. It could be both, but if the control is weighted too much on one side, that s when issues can develop, like eating disorders and other fixations. Individuals who scored higher on more negative aspects of perfectionism were also more debilitated by their anxiety symptoms (Nordin Bates, 2011). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Delphi Technique is based on the Hegelian Principle of achieving Oneness of Mind through a three step process of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. In thesis and antithesis, all present their opinion or views on a given subject, establishing views and opposing views. In synthesis, opposites are brought together to form the new thesis. All participants are then to accept ownership of the new thesis and support it, changing their own views to align with the new thesis. Through a continual process of evolution, Oneness of Mind will supposedly occur. The theory of the Delphi and the reality of the Delphi are, obviously, quite different the reality being that Oneness of Mind does not occur but only the illusion of Oneness of Mind with those who refuse to be Delphi d being alienated from participating in the process. While proponents of education reform feel they are quite justified in this, the effect of this unethical manipulation of people is to create polarized camps. In an effort to maintain the process, advocates have marketed a plethora of publications (such as What s Left After the Right, No Right Turn and If You Don t, They Will) intended to label, castigate, and alienate anyone who does not go along with them. As a result, parents come to understand that their role in education reform is merely perfunctory; that the outcome is preset, that they are not but the rah rah team so when opposition does arise, ... • 28. My Experience With Severe Anxiety When I reflect on everything that has happened thus far in my lifetime, I am amazed at how far I have come. I was born on May 31st, 1998. My mom was in college when she had me, and my father worked two jobs to support the family. They worked incredibly hard to make sure that I had a good and comfortable life. They never gave up, even when they were loaded with their many responsibilities, because they cared so much for me and my future. I truly admire them for that. They instilled the value of preserving, and never giving up, no matter how tough your challenges in life are. This value is very important to me, and I believe that I would not be where I am today if I didn t stay true to this value. This value has been especially important when I have had to deal with severe anxiety. I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. The anxiety became especially intense during my freshman year of high school. It began to severely interfere with my schooling, to the point where I could not even attend school. I many attempts to continue to attend school, but these attempts would often end with me having a severe panic attack. This constant failure to attend school sent me into a bout of depression. All of these factors led to the decision for me to be put into home hospital, where I would do all my schoolwork at home, and work with a teacher who came to my house for an hour each day. This would allow me to focus on receiving professional help with my anxiety. I met with a therapist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Limitations Of Racist Speech Limits on Racist Speech in Public Contexts When the first amendment is brought up, one of the first things that comes to mind is free speech. Even though we don t give it much thought, our free speech does have limits. The more obvious limits such as knowing that you can t threaten people or shout Fire! in a crowded space make sense because it s easy to see how they cause direct harm. These general limits are important in order to ensure a safe and peaceful society, but when it comes to voicing prejudice views, it becomes difficult to determine what should and should not be restricted by the first amendment. After all, when negative and hurtful opinions are directed at a specific group of people, it becomes hard to see how protecting them could be a good thing. The important thing to remember is that when sharing these views becomes harmful and leads to harassment, it is no longer protected under the first amendment. However, everyone sees things differently, so drawing the line between what is just offensive and harassment needs to be determined and treated on a case by case basis. This will not only allow us to come to a solution for these individual problems, but it leaves room for discussion which will help to combat the root cause of prejudice. While trying to think of ways to regulate racist speech, we might think that an easy solution would be to place a ban on racist speech altogether, but this quickly becomes problematic. Banning specific opinions and beliefs would no longer make our speech free, and even when people are permitted to share wrong or offensive opinions, protecting free speech still has more potential benefit than harm. This gives us the right to speak out against our government when it is doing something we disagree with, but it also allows people to share their racist views. If we want to continue to reap the benefits, we also have to accept that racist speech is a part of free speech, thus protected under the first amendment. This is not the same thing as saying that racist speech should be unregulated; there are regulations for when hate speech becomes harmful, but the government shouldn t and isn t responsible for regulating it. The issue of regulating racist speech is a local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed quickly to prevent many serious complications such as: peritonitis, sepsis, hypovolemia, and low H H due to excessive bleeding. The routine procedure of a colonoscopy is not without risks and this simulation experience was a great example of how an adverse event can go undetected until after discharge or when the physical symptoms appear and start ailing the patient. • 32. British Columbia And Prairie West INTRODUCTION British Columbia and Prairie West experienced many changes in economic, political, and social developments. The great depression of 1930s was more devastating on the Canadian prairies than other regions of Canada. It impacted badly on economy, social organization, and politics of the Prairie region. Various factors such as low wheat prices in the international market, fall of export markets during the depression, insufficient financial investments lowered the economy of the Prairie region. The economic and political situation worsened in the British Columbia during the Depression as well as after the World War II. The Prairie West depended on the farming as their main occupation while British Columbia depended on forestry, mining and fishing. After the World War II, the Prairie West witnessed Alberta dominated by the energy industry whereas Saskatchewan and Manitoba maintained their economy by the replacing the farm sectors with the economic sectors. British Colombia acquired its name in energy and transportation sectors. The post 1945 period experienced differences in class, race, gender, and ethnicity. Prairie and British Columbia underwent changes such as population variability, establishment of national social insurance programs etc. In 2000s, the energy companies made its way towards Alberta and Saskatchewan. • 33. Analysis Of Chekhov s The Brothers Karamazov Chekhov s use of allusion in Misery also stands in stark contrast to the works of other Russian literary giants such as Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, whose works often featured deep themes revolving around the aforementioned Christian thought. While a deep discussion on these themes is out of the scope of this paper, perhaps one of the most obvious and contrasting examples can be found in Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov, which was published around 6 years before Chekhov wrote Misery . Towards the end of the novel, Father Zosima, a figure who acts as a mouthpiece for Dostoevsky s own thoughts on religion, indirectly responds to the arguments of Ivan Karamazov, who rejects God because of the existence of suffering innocents and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But Jonah is not humbled and reverent as Job is. Instead, Jonah prayed to the Lord and said, O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster (Jonah 4:2). Jonah refuses to simply accept God s message, and instead challenges God to explain why he even had to go through his journey in the first place. When God responds, the Book of Jonah simply ends, and we never hear from Jonah again. The final image of Jonah is of him sitting under a wilting plant, fuming and wishing for an end to his life. Thus Jonah himself is in fact one of the more miserable figures of the Bible. It is only appropriate that Chekhov chose such an unorthodox figure, rather than someone like Job, to connect to the misery of his protagonist. Jonah s questioning of God even when facing his literal presence is also appropriate given Chekhov s own questioning of faith. Jonah, in a Chekhovian fashion, focuses on the realities of what he had to go through, rather than being humbled and indulging in Job s deep, yet clear cut answers and happy ending. The allusion to Jonah in Misery serves only to introduce a hint of Christian metaphysics into the story, providing Chekhov with an opportunity to deconstruct its influence in society and in the works of his ... • 34. The Feminine Mystique Summary In this chapter of The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan denounces a fundamental notion of the mystique: The role for women in the home is equal to the role of men in society. To further explain this notion, she makes use of several different rhetorical devices such as antithesis, when she establishes a connection between the dreadful physical and mental health of full time housewives plus men working on assembly lines, and she does so in order to accentuate the hidden problems of alcoholism, obesity, chronic fatigue, and lack of interest in sex due to preconceived ideas about gender roles. Moreover, she makes use of logos, when she provides her readers with statistics about how Women constituted nearly half of the professional workforce; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Discuss The Effects Of Ww2 On African American Women The postwar period starting in 1945 was a time of economic boom and a shared sense of unity in the United States, or so it seemed. Although the unemployment rate was zero percent women and African American workers were becoming increasingly unhappy with their roles in the American post war economy. Employment of women in America was at an all time high reaching 19 million by 1945. However, the traditional gender roles between men and women created tension after the war due to women s push for opportunity outside of their typical roles at home. In the post war period, African American workers were still feeling a sense of segregation and inequality in the workforce. • 38. Effects Of Texas Rebellion Texas, initially Mexican territory, would lose this identity as diversity began to advance across the state. Texas became full of diversity prior to the rebellion. Texas at the time was at its most diverse (Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). There were visible cultural differences and practices. However, the differences were hardly significant enough to propel Texas into a rebellion. The moment the Anglos set foot in to Texas, the cultural differences were noticeable to both sides, but it was not enough to deter either side from attempting to coexist (Unit 4, The Peoples of Mexican Texas). The Texas rebellion began to formulate at a time where the Anglo population began to peak. The rebellion was inevitable, and long before cultural conflicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Political conflict, was a key component in multiple uprisings during the time. Economic motivations, grew to a point where it never reached prior to the Jacksonian era. Social changes, divided a significant amount of people within Texas itself. Cultural differences were notable and existed, but they took on a smaller role compared to politics, economics, and social changes. While cultural differences were present, they were not nearly enough to spark an entire rebellion. The cultural differences made it difficult to easily assimilate, but hardly impossible. The inability to quickly adjust to preceding expected cultural norms was a very unlikely reason for the rebellion. Weber, initially presents a very valid argument of the cultural differences between Anglo Texans and Mexican Texans. However, he makes it clear in his essay that despite the cultural differences, the main fight was between the Mexican Texan and the centralist Mexican government (MPTH, 139). There is more than enough evidence to support that the Texas rebellion would occur inevitably, as the discontent with the Mexican leadership rose. Consequently, it appeared that both cultures were able to coexist exceptionally. It is also leaves a curious question on whether culture assimilation, rather than cultural differences lead to the Texas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
