An American Family
Mr. Cleaver comes home from a long day at work to his loving wife. He enjoys a nice home cooked
meal as he talks with his two children at the dinner table often about the troubles Beav has found his
way into in the sitcom Leave it to Beaver. A show that aired in the late 50 s teaching life lessons to its
viewers and most importantly representing the ideal nuclear family. Needless to say, we have come a
long way from the white picket fence and 2.5 children as the model representation of an American
family. Today, families are modeled in all different shapes and sizes. Two parent, single parent,
multiple parents, or even extended family members can be seen raising the children. These families
have developed over the past 60 years due to many reasons. The societal changes occurring over time
and economical effects on both micro and macro levels, and the evolution of gender roles along with
many other causes have all played a role in developing the family. By the 1990 s, the census reported
that only about 21% of married couples lived with their children. (Morgan 1996) In 40 years, the ideal
nuclear family had dropped to 21%, and due to the rise in divorce rates during the 80 s, the percentage
of stepchildren was projected to rise to 33%. (Morgan 1996) Now decades later, stepfamilies do
indeed make up 1/3 of American households. With the growing changes in families and the people that
make up families, many new concerns are being developed about the legal rights and

Operant Learning Theorists
Part 1
Behavior is explained as a response to a given stimulus. There are two theories which explain how we
learn. These are classical conditioning and operant learning as explained by B.F Skinner and. Ivan
Pavlov .In classical conditioning, there are responses, usually involuntary which are as a result of
experiences which occur before the response in question. This conditioning occurs when one learns to
associate two different stimuli. Operant conditioning, on the other hand, changes in behavior which
result from experiences which occur after the said response result in learning. This involves changes in
voluntary behaviours.
These two theories share many procedures and basic principles. The basic principles of extinction,
spontaneous recovery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such a schedule causes a high and steady rate of responding. Examples of reward based on variable
ratio schedules are gambling and lottery . A fixed ratio schedule , on the other hand, refers to a
reinforcement schedule where a response is only reinforced after a specified number of responses.
These schedules produce a high and steady rate of responding but with a brief pause after the delivery
of the given reinforcer.
An experiment to show the application of reinforcement can be given as follows. A rat is placed in a
skinner box. The Skinner box is such that it has a bar or lever which the rat can press or manipulate in
a given way when it wants to obtain either food or water from the reinforcer. In the experiment, the
box provides also a means of recording the various responses of the animal. In the experiment, various
schedules of reinforcement will be applied and the responses of the rat recorded.
The rat then will receive a food pellet whenever they manipulate the lever. Some rats will receive a
food pellet each time they peck the lever and others receive food pellets after manipulating the lever
for a given number of times say

Frederick Douglass, The Most Famous African American...
Frederick Douglass is the most famous African American abolitionists and the greatest American
orators. Throughout American history, African Americans were victims of American governmental
policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should understand
slavery. He takes charge of upholding slavery to himself and defends the freedom for those in slavery.
While other African Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for African American
slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero because of his courage and
achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and education. Frederick Douglass
portrays himself as a physical and mental hero through courage in his autobiography, beginning from
slavery at birth to freedom of escape. He refuses to accept anything less than his own physical,
spiritual, and intellectual freedom. Moreover, he never hesitates to focus on his determination.
According to the Litigation, one of the first acts of courage in Douglass life is teaching other slaves to
read the New Testament with over forty people attending his classes. His master retaliates against his
courage by sending him to another owner (Mr. Covey) who has a reputation for breaking courageous
slaves. At that moment during his time with Mr. Covey, Douglass fights back because of this spirit that
comes to him. That spirit is his courage. He gains courage to impose the effects of slavery and

The Building On Winthrop University s Campus And Is The...
Tillman Hall. This is the name of the main building on Winthrop University s campus and is the name
of the clock tower at Clemson University. These two buildings have faced quite a number of racial
incidences over the past couple of years due to the founder of the two buildings, Benjamin R. Tillman.
Many people have raised the issue of having the name changed to something different over the past
couple of years but no changes have been made. There hope is to end the racial incidences that occur
and ultimately stop racism on these two campuses. The major question at hand is will changing the
name of Tillman Hall reduce the number of race induced incidents? I do think that changing the name
of Tillman Hall on both of these two campuses will reduce racial incidences due to the fact that this
changes the atmosphere of the school and really holds itself up to its diversity standard, the changing
of the name does not change history but it shows that we as a people have come far and don t need
someone like Benjamin Tillman at the center representing us, and it is very likely that these racial
incidents will be put to an end as the violent racist and his legacy is gone. Tillman Hall which was
originally known as Main Building was built in 1894 and served as the main point of Winthrop
University s Campus. Winthrop opened in 1895 and started out as an all female college. This was the

De Stalinization and the Effects on Ukraine
De Stalinization was the process of political reconstruction that took place in in the Soviet Union after
the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953. This process strived to eliminate institutions established by Stalin
that instilled mental and social suffering across the Ukrainian people. In 1956, when Nikita
Khrushchev was elected the First Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party it began the start of de
Stalinization which undid Stalins reign of terror and characteristics as a leader. The main elements of

Media; Levi Jeans Campaign Essay
Why in your opinion, was the Levi Strauss 501 campaign so successful?
The Levi Strauss 501 advertising campaign was so successful in 1984 1990 as it attracted the typical
American teens selling independence, sexuality and physical good looks, representing the perfect
figure and body. It illustrated a complete lifestyle to the teenagers world. Admiring the fantasy of idols
James Dean and Marlon Brando, all connecting to the Levi guys (jeans) in the adverts, giving the
impression of a sensual, healthy radiant aspect, to the gazed audience. Falling for the act, teens still
continued to buy the different types of jeans, whilst new ideas were being designed. People realise
now it was just a pretence illusion. Although these shams still occur ... Show more content on

This particular one reads Now available stonewashed! Relating back to when he places the stones in
the machine to be washed. Each storyline in the commercials have an unpredictable ending. The
adverts kept changing, the colour of the jeans changed from blue to black. They purposely did this to
make more money because since World War 11, people had more wealth. The teens had to be in with
the latest fashion.
There is plenty of iconography throughout the adverts. The image of a dark, muscled, tanned bloke
appears in each advert. This independent, sexy guy is in it, as it will attract more customers to buy the
jeans, thinking they will be like him (or the Levi s girl, who is stunning, free and healthy too). The
camera will constantly focus on the jeans, encouraging you to buy them. American styles emerge in
every advert. A good example is the sunsets. Usually at the end, a car (or Harley Davidson) will
disappear into the sunset leaving with happy thoughts. Or skyscrapers will crop up in the background
reminding you it originated in America!
The red label on the jeans means everything so it is repeated frequently, many big close ups are used
on them. At the beginning of each advertisement music commences. The song will always relate to
that specific advert. The Launderettes song is by Marvin Gaye, Hurdle Through the Grapevine . The
lyrics will constantly link to the story. This idea of

routes and brought in income (Doc. B). After this conquest, Asoka ceased to indulge in wars, proving
that he conquered Kalinga for the wellness of his people rather than wanting more power (Doc. B).

“Metaphors,” Written By Sylvia Plath, Is A Riddle Poem.
Metaphors, written by Sylvia Plath, is a riddle poem. Throughout the poem, Plath uses figures of
speech, alliteration, and other literary devices to reveal her central theme. Like a riddle, the reader
must use Plath s literary devices to unveil the answer to the riddle. While Metaphors does not use a
traditional form or meter, its unusual structure also points to the main idea Plath presents. Plath s
Metaphors is a riddle poem whose solution, pregnancy, is solved using literary devices and other clues
within the poem. Plath s poem is classified as a riddle poem. Literary Contexts in Poetry: Sylvia Plath

Plath s use of the number nine is yet another key to solving the riddle.
Continuing the descriptions of the physical transformation of pregnancy, Plath uses another metaphor
in line two: An elephant, a ponderous house, (2). The first metaphor of the elephant displays the
physical transformation a pregnant woman undergoes. The obvious transformations of weight gain
and unflattering associations of slow and difficult gait (Devi, p. 2, 2006) are reflected in the elephant
metaphor. The ponderous house refers the bulky figure of a pregnant woman ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4,
2008). G. Devi also points out that the woman is like a house as the speaker sees herself as a shelter
for the child growing inside her (p. 2, 2006).
Plath again portrays the physical changes of pregnancy in line three: A melon strolling on two tendrils
(3). The line s imagery allows the reader to gain a mental picture of a large melon carefully walking
on two thin legs. This line also employs personification as the melon is given the human quality of
walking ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). The melon is also metaphor of fertility. Like a fetus, a melon
fruit is the most valuable part of the plant (Devi, p. 2, 2006). Plath continues the value of pregnancy in
line four: O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers! (4). The items listed in this line are all of high value. The red
fruit is the most valuable

Review Of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep

Email: gjabr12@gmail.com What It Means to Be Human? Phillip K. Dick, American science fiction
writer, delivers a story that emphasizes that there really is no major difference between the human and
non human, or in this case, the android. The androids presented in the book serve as a means of
redefining what it means to be human. Humans have now entered this new age of technology and with
it, have attained the ability to push pre existing mental and physical boundaries. Abstract: The
boundaries of what it means to be human is constantly shifting. As we enter the Posthuman age, the
altered posthuman is becoming the new human. In Phillip K Dick s novel, Do Androids Dream of
Electric Sheep? androids serve and live alongside humans in the post war Earth. The
indistinguishability of the new Nexus 6 model android and a human creates the context for the
question what does it mean to be human. This paper will analyze the connection between the
posthuman and the human. With rapid advancements in technology, the human rapidly advances
alongside it. This paper will also examine the novel s main portrayal of the two opposing beings. To
conclude, the paper will touch upon the differences that seem to separate the two and whether or not
there truly are any. The concept of Posthumansim blurs the line of the human and non human. This
idea is prevalent in the 1968 science fiction novel Do

A Research Study On The Axon Essay
1. A neuron is a cell that receives messages from receptors and then sends them to other neurons. The
structure consists of multiple parts. Starting with the dendrites, short projections out of the cell body
that are very tree like because of the branch like appearance. They receive the electrical impulses from
the receptors and the impulses flow into the cell body or soma. The soma is the part of the cell that is
the main part of the neuron that holds the nucleus and cytoplasm. It makes it so the whole cell is
working and being alive, in other words the body. Then the electrical impulse is sent down through
axon. The axon is a thin extension out of the soma. It acts like a cable or cord. The axon has a
protective coating called the myelin sheath. It s made up of a mix of fat and proteins. Then once the
impulse has traveled through the axon it exits that individual neuron through the short knobs on the
ends of the extended fibers from the axon called the axon terminals. The axon terminals the talkers of
the neuron. Its job is to communicate with other cells. The way it communicates is through this little
junction called the synapse. The electrical impulse then repeats the process going from neuron to
neuron until it either reaches the brain or the spinal cord.
2. Neurons communicate through electrical impulses and chemicals. This all happens within the small
space in between the axon terminal and the next neurons dendrites. This space is filled with fluids
which have

Environment Values And Values
The environment impacts human beings negatively and positively in many aspects. The environment
provides humans many things from things like water, air, nutrients, water cycling for agriculture and
disease prevention or recreation. These things are give to humans for free, so why do not we value the
environment. The environment provides us with many things which we need to survive on day to day
basis, which is one of the reason why I value another environment. The second reason being the
instrumental value, meaning that being in and seeing nature bring people satisfaction. To me being
nature helps me keep my mental wellness positive if there are any issues or negative problems, which
I am unable to resolve. Being in nature gives me that satisfaction and promotes me to solve them.
Second being the intrinsic value that nature can stand alone. I believe this because humans came to
earth, environment existed before. The environment could sustain and preserve it self before, it is due
to human s activities that is destroying the environment.
We all acquire beliefs and values from many sources. We all react differently to life experiences which
ultimately influences the way in which we see and interpret the world around us. The following
factors of schooling system, parents and government/ health safety sector, have influenced me to the
see environment in such perspective. The first factor is schooling system because education plays a
big role in a person s perception, behaviour

Native American Traditions And Traditions Of Clothing,...
The Navajos did not make war just to steal and kill; they earned their reputation as warriors fighting to
protect their lands, properties, and families and a just cause it was. The Navajo tribe is one of the
oldest and is the largest tribe in the United States and branches from the Apache tribe. Their
characteristics and traditions of clothing, shelter, and food are still around today. This tribe is known
for their peacefulness and religious beliefs and 0many experts consider their lifestyle to have been a
wealth of culture. They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from the many hardships they faced,
even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally passed on to younger generations from elders, and even
other tribes that the navajos branched from. They formed a very distinct type of religion known as the
Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional compared to other native american religions. Some
of their rituals used in healing members of the tribe could last for days and even over a week. Every
aspect of their life involved some type of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and
harvesting they would pray, sing, and dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. Not
all followed this religion once Christianity was shared with them. In more modern times between

Is There a Correlation between with STEM and Non-STEM...
The analysis of the data begins by observing whether or not there is a correlation with STEM and non
STEM areas of study to men and women. If there is a correlation of STEM and non STEM areas of
study to men and women then one can accurately predict the academic outcome of people with
degrees in STEM and non STEM. This is done by observing how many men and women who have
majors in natural sciences and social sciences/humanities and if there is a tendency of a gender
choosing a particular major within a certain field. In Table 1 a Chi Square test of independence was
performed to determine whether the majors in natural sciences and social sciences/humanities were

However, these percentages do not accurately determine whether or not that person would have a
degree from a STEM field. According to Ma (2011, p. 1180), 43 percent of women who initially
claimed a major in STEM ultimately attained their degree, compared with 38 percent of men who did
so. Despite 20.9% more men studying in the areas of natural sciences than women, 5% more women
graduate in STEM fields than men. 50.5% of men and 71.4% of women are studying in the areas of
social sciences/humanities which are considered non STEM degrees. According to Ma s (2011, p.
1181) figure 2 b. roughly 20% of women and 10% of men graduate with non STEM degrees. The
correlation of men and women that study in social sciences/humanities or non STEM areas of study
are similar to the men and women that have degrees in social sciences/ humanities or non STEM area
of study. The correlation is that there are more women than men that study and graduate in social

of STEM and non STEM areas of study to men and women then one can accurately predict the
academic outcome of people with degrees in STEM and non STEM. However, Ma s (2011, p. 1181)
figure 2 b. showed evidence that a larger percentage women obtained degrees in natural sciences than
men did. This is controversial

Shepard Fairey s Obey Campaign Analysis
Many artists promote their work as a form of propaganda, for example Shepard Fairey s website
suggests his campaign is a do it yourself counter culture. that also goads viewers, using the memorable

don t get the wrong idea, Connor would sometimes use his pacifier and bottle at that age too but this
time was different. It was the fact that Connor wasn t being as verbal that gave it away. He was a
chatty little boy, and would always tell you what was wrong, today that just wasn t the case, and Tyler

Tyler picked him up again and brought him back to the guest room that was practically Connor s now

Competitive Strategy Of Aldi
The Australian grocery retail market is very competitive and faces strong pricing wars amid the
supermarket giants. The strategic industry analysis and competition in the market is due to the factors
including product development, supply chain factors along with pricing. The competition in the
industry is aggressive and to maintain the market share everyday new strategies are being
implemented. The competitive landscape impacts the market and therefore the market share of Coles
reduced in the year 2016. Competition is fierce in terms of value sales, expansion and price wars. To

In Australia, four biggest players namely Coles, Woolworth, Aldi and Wesfarmer represent about 80%
of total industry sales. Among them Coles and Woolworths represent about 60% of total industry

from that German supermarket brands such as Lidl and Kaufland presently hold about 8.9% of the
grocery retail market in the nation. The continuing competition within the grocery retailer network
continues to influence the entire industry. Although grocery retailers in Australia continues to be
dominated by supermarkets such as Woolworths and Coles, in the year 2016 discounters chain Aldi
continued to challenge the status of both organisations. Through the low price strategy of Aldi,
counting its inclusive private level range, the position of Woolworths and Coles has been challenged

supermarkets in Australia have appeared in a price rivalry throughout majority of assessment period

An explanation of the physiology of two named body systems in relation to energy metabolism in the
body. (P4)
In this assignment I will be explaining the physiology of two named body systems in relation to
energy metabolism in the body, the Respiration system and the Digestive system. I will start off by
giving a definition of energy metabolism in the body. Metabolism in the body is a collection of
chemical reactions that takes place in the body s cells. Metabolism converts the nutrients in the food
that we eat in to essential energy which is needed to power all that we do, from something as little as
thinking to growing physically or carrying out a physical activity. In our body s, there are a specific
protein which controls the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discuss the role of energy in the body (M1)
In our bodies we need energy so that we could do things that are possible such as move our muscles,
talk and all the other things that we do. Without energy all humans would be useless not being able to
do anything. Energy is needed to extract the oxygen from the areas in our bodies and diffuse it into our
bloodstream. Supplying enough energy to support the functions of the body in a daily basis is one of
the main reasons for food. This energy comes from the fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in the food
you eat. Of the three, fat is the most concentrated source of energy. Energy requirements are normally
put in terms of calories. The energy requirement for a person is spilt into two parts: basal metabolic
requirements and energy required for activity. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the heat taken from the
body at rest when temperature is normal. An average person requires 2000 2500 Calories per day
while the difference for a large man doing heavy work may require up to 6000 Calories per day. When
you choose foods that have more energy, or Calories than you need, the excess energy is stored as fat
in the body which will results in putting on some weight. If too little food is eaten to meet energy
demands, the body s stored fat serves as an energy source and this will result in weight loss. Your
weight stays about the same if the energy from food matches the energy requirements of the body. As

Identity In Joseph Boyden s Three Day Road
An individual s identity is an ever changing composition of a person s aspirations, beliefs and
morality. Identity change is often influenced by many aspects of an individual s life, but individuals
must always return to their roots in order to stay true to their morality. This internal struggle over one s
identity is successfully illustrated in the characters of Three Day Road. In the novel, Joseph Boyden
vividly recounts the journey of two Native Canadian soldiers, Xavier and Elijah, who struggle with
identity loss from the adversity of the Great War. Through their harrowing experiences from the
battlefield, they experience a dissipation of morals which is only recovered in Xavier, the sole
survivor, through Niska s stories of her past, his own past, and of the ... Show more content on

Elijah s tragic descent to madness forewarns the dangers of assuming an identity drastically different
from one s true morality. From the beginning, Elijah felt that there was a need to fit in with the other
soldiers by adopting a British persona when speaking to others. In a shared code with Grey Eyes,
Elijah says, Dear Henry, [...] would you be a kind chap and make me a cup of tea? (144). Although his
British accent appears to be a convoluted joke, Elijah is really abandoning his Cree language in favour
of a British accent to please his peers. Despite the native language being an essential part of his
childhood identity, Elijah succumbs to the white man s perceived notions of the Cree language being
related to witchcraft as he strips away his native language to fit in with the others. This sudden
transformation to match a white man s identity ultimately results in an identity crisis that drives him to
insanity. Xavier illustrates this when he notices that,

Cost Based Competition
Cost has traditionally being a major influence on all business as all businesses desire to achieve
maximum efficiency as it is a vital factor for businesses in order to reach the ultimate goal and
success. Businesses sees cost as the key value to success and aims to become as much cost efficient as
possible, by implementing a cost leadership style approach to the operations variable cost or fixed cost
,while maintain the expected profit margin, business is able to gain a competitive advantage over their
competitors in their target market. This is called cost based competition. By determining the break
even point and applying cost saving strategies, to reducing cost, businesses who apply cost based
competition in their operations is able to maximize the profits and lead business to success.
Government Policies
Regardless of the nation of the business may be operating in, all aspect of any business must comply
by the laws and policies of businesses set by the government of that nation in order to success.

metalloporphyrins occur naturally in hemoglobin and chlorophyll, their study has implications in
synthesizing human blood as well as utilizing its ability to convert visible light to energy. In addition
to these two applications, metalloporhyrins are utilized in supramolecular studies, are being
researched for potential photodynamic therapy, and are used in building electronics on the molecular

others based around porphyrin, absorb between 650 850 nm, thus allowing for deeper penetration of
activating radiation into tissues.4 According to a study by Wormald et al.,5 another

porphyrin based compound, known commercially as verteporfin, also shows promise in the
treatment of macular degeneration by selectively halting the growth of harmful blood vessels under
the retina. The photochemical and optical properties of porphyrin compounds have also made them a
target of research in the field of molecular electronics. One goal of this research has been to produce
improved optoelectronic devices such as photovoltaic cells, OLEDs and OFETs by imitating the early
steps of photosynthesis. 3 The high thermal and photostabilities of porphyrin compounds also
contribute to their appeal in the field of material science. Supramolecular structures of porphyrin
compounds have also been studied for their electrical properties, and have been used to build
nanoarchitectures and molecular assemblies ranging in length from several nanometers to the
millimeter scale.1 This particular project focuses on two metalloporphyrins:

to fuel your body. I have written the 12 power foods that will give a powerful boost to your daily diet.
Carbohydrates: Carbs have gotten a bad reputation in recent years, but before you swear off bread for
life, it is important to note that not all carbohydrates are created equal. Carbohydrates offer fuel to the
body in the form of glucose, which is the best energy source for the brain and central nervous system

Society s Role in Margery Kempe s Autobiography Essay
Society s Role in Margery Kempe s Autobiography
In her essay Professions for Women, Virginia Woolf recounts her experience with Coventry Patmore s
Angel in the House. The Angel, society s ideal woman, is concerned primarily with others, identifies
herself only as a wife/mother, and remains conventional in her actions, conscious of the standards for
women. Woolf indicates that women writers are guided by this Angel unless they liberate themselves.
Society s ideals ( the Angel in the House ) have influenced Margery Kempe s autobiography as
revealed by her content, form, and identity.

Kempe writes her autobiography in the third person perspective, which is indicative of society s
influence on her writing. Referring to herself as this creature, Kempe puts the reader in a situation
where she/he more likely associates with the creature as a character than a real person. Also, the focus
chapters 3, 4, and 11 is primarily on Kempe s spirituality, illustrated best by her diction: God, Heaven,
sin, temptation, and an array of other religious jargon characterize her speech, as opposed to sexual or
spiritual liberation or subjective truth. Because of the time in which she wrote this, Kempe s work
must have been of religious significance, not an example of feminist or existentialist theory.
Furthermore, Kempe seems to have internalized the condemning voice of the church, as she chastises
and demonizes herself. For example, She thought she was worthy of no mercy, for her consent was so
willfully done, nor ever worthy to do Him service, because she was so false to Him (22). Even if she
really felt this way about herself, Kempe seems to be stating readers reactions, especially when she
quotes her husband, who told her, Ye are no good wife (23).
Coventry Patmore s nineteenth century Angel in the House post dates Margery Kempe by about four
hundred years. Thus Kempe does not

Although Under Armour has done well over the past few years, they face though competition from top
players like Nike and Adidas. These larger companies have more resources and a greater presence in
the international market. There is also a threat of new entrants, and since UA does not hold patents for
its products, new and existing companies may begin to compete for a spot in the performance apparel
market. Other threats include the company s limited bargaining power (resulting from their diverse
supplier base) and the leverage held by wholesale customers. Fortunately, UA does have the advantage
of strong brand recognition, a reputation for innovative and high quality products, and testimonials of
world renowned athletes, minimizing the threat of substitute products. Although the company was

In simple words lobbying is way of influencing a person or employee who has the power to make or

It is true that they represent a large influential society but that does not mean that people should not

right about not placing rigid limitations on interest groups as it has placed on individuals because if
those limitations are lifted from the individuals and they have same power as the interest groups, they
will be too many bills demanding their own benefit. In my opinion, the collective influence of interest
groups does override the ability to influence politics as some citizens may fall into leader s false

their need to be taken care of. The NARAL (National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action

Last year, after the election, the Republican party in our state house decided to eliminate public
employees right to collective bargaining. This was a historic event because Republicans in the House
felt as if public employees had too much control in what happened at their work site, at taxpayers
expense. As a result, unions were striped of their right to collective bargaining. However, not all
unions were equally striped of their bargaining rights. Public workers such as fire fighters, park
rangers and police officers were not impacted by the changes to the bill as other public employees.
Republicans believe that this is fair because these jobs involve people putting their lives on the line.

When faced with hardships in life, a person is often given two choices, to either give up or persevere.
Many people who are faced with these choices choose to give up, these people never got to live life to
their full potential. If they would have persevered then they would have eventually overcame their
challenge and been able to move on from it. If a person does not persevere they will never be able to

Due to Britain s
violations of U.S. neutrality, Congress declared war on Britain in 1812, under the influence of
President James Madison. The War of 1812 had begun and although America was up against one of
the world s most powerful nations, the United States had an advantage for Britain was preoccupied
with the war with France.
In 1813, the United States gained control of Lake Erie with their victory at the Battle of Lake Erie
which meant that the Americans controlled the route to Canada. At the Battle of the Thames River,
General Harrison was able to defeat a combined force of British troops and Native Americans, ending
British power in the Northwest and weakening the alliance between Britain and Native Americans for
the leader of the Indians, Tecumseh, had died in battle. In 1814, Britain had won the war against
France and Napoleon Bonaparte was executed meaning that Britain could focus more on the War of
1812. Their victory at war allowed the British to send better reinforcement to defeat the Americans
who now had their full attention. The British attacked Washington D.C. and set fire to the White
House, along with other government buildings, causing President Madison to be forced to flee.
In early September 1814, the British sailed up Chesapeake Bay with plans to capture the city of
Baltimore in Maryland with a naval and land attack. Vice Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane,
commander of the British fleet, was set on Baltimore for it

Andrew Still s Osteopathic Paper
The son of a doctor and a pastor, Andrew Still (1828 1917) believed that the human being was the
perfect being, of divine origin. This belief went on to be a key component for the basis of his research
in the establishment of osteopathy. Dr. Still believed that the medical treatments and practices
available to him at the time were highly unorthodox, ineffective and that they had the potential to be
harmful. In 1864 shortly after the conclusion of the civil war, Still lost his 3 children due to spinal
meningitis and it was this incident that further fortified Still to seek an alternative way of treatment.
Dr. Still went on to spend the next 10 years of his life analysing and examining the human body
exploring alternate ways to treat pain and disease. In addition to Still theorising his own ... Show more

Still s research and analysis led him to the conclusion that the muskoskeletal system played a vital role
in one s individual health, moreover that a properly aligned muskoskeletal system was the explanation
for good health. With this information Still had realised the relationship between structure and
function and he theorised that the disease process arises when the flow of life is interrupted (Still,
1908). Thereafter Still formulated a hands on approach to treatment; now commonly known as
osteopathic manual therapy (OMM). This non invasive treatment method was believed by Still to cure
disease, treat pain and re establish flow within the body. Rather than just focusing on the
manifestations of injury or illness in a patient, Still would instead seek to explore and understand the
cause. You wonder what Osteopathy is; you look in the medical dictionary and find as its definition
bone disease. That is a grave mistake. It is compounded of two words, osteon, meaning bone, pathos,
pathine, to suffer. Greek lexicographers say it is a proper name for a science founded on a knowledge
of bones. So instead of bone disease it really means usage. (Still, 1987,

Key figures from 2014 findings show that the 30 49 age group is a fast growing segment. Highlighted
in yellow, we can see that this category only falls slightly behind the biggest consumers of social

platforms, Twitter and Pinterest are coming up as well, and should not be ignored in this dynamic
digital era.

Organized Chaos
Society, on the outside, is organized chaos. Take Chicago for instance, if we removed rules and time, it
would be in turmoil. Crime, chaos, disorder; the city would not last more than aday. If we add in laws,
and enforced them with police, much of that chaos would subside. However, the city would still
crumble, and again, would die within the first 24 hours. The fundamental rule which keeps a society
together is time. Time holds society together, but in doing so controls what we can and cannot achieve
in our short lives.
If humans never accepted the concept of time, how would we function? We take for granted that when
we are told to be somewhere, that we are also given a time to be there. I can lay out my Mondays by
just using times. Wake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It controls our objectives in life. When were young we have our whole life ahead of us. As a child I
wanted to be a firefighter, and a train conductor. I also found an interest in computers, and spent hours
a day dabbling in video games, getting good at one and then moving on to the next. Now I m using my
computer skills to work towards getting a degree in networking. The problem that I have is that I still
do want to be a firefighter, and I still want to be a train conductor. If I could, I would play video games
all day. Sadly I have had to prioritize my goals. Time keeps me from doing all that I wish I could do. If
I were given a lifespan of three hundred years instead of the average eighty, I could probably achieve
all these goals that I have. Instead, like all the other people on earth, I have to choose one goal and

Emphysema
Introduction:
Emphysema is a condition of the lungs that involves the over inflation of the air sacs, otherwise
known as the alveoli. Normal functioning of the alveoli helps breathing in normal respiration. Unlike
other lung diseases this one can be inherited. This is a disease that can affect people of all ages and
genders. In 1994, the number of males with emphysema outnumbered the females by fifty four
percent. However, in the two years that followed the difference between males and females decreased
by ten percent.

Swelling and increased fluid in the lungs may also be a sign to look for. A steady tracking of the
symptoms and health history of the person should be taken into consideration as well.
Prevalence and/or Incidence: Emphysema is a fairly common disease, with two out of one thousand
people reporting cases. Currently, there are 1.8 million Americans in the United States that have
emphysema. Emphysema is ranked 15th among chronic conditions or diseases which limit people s
daily activity. A study by the American Lung Association shows that 44 percent of people with
emphysema have reported that their daily activities have been greatly limited due to the disease.
Ethnical Distribution: Emphysema can be contracted by people of all walks of life and does not favor
any particular ethnic groups. The contraction of emphysema mainly depends on life style.
Geographical Distribution:
Emphysema is a disease that in not only caused by the way you live, but can be contracted through the
area in which a person lives. For example, people who live in urban areas are at higher risk. This is
due to the fact that these areas are more highly populated with factories and cluttered with
automobiles. These factories produce a great deal of smoke which can be very harmful to the lungs of
the people who inhale it. The automobile exhaust has the same affect on the lungs if inhaled for

Managing and Handling Indiscipline in Schools.
MANAGING AND HANDLING INDISCIPLINE IN SCHOOLS
A RESEARCH PROJECT
ISABEL FREIRE, UNIVERSIDADE DE LISBOA JOÃO AMADO, UNIVERSIDADE DE
COIMBRA
ABSTRACT
The research project we present here in (entitled GERLINDES, in Portuguese) is set out with the
assumption that there is a link among the representations and the actions within the members of the
interstitial groups of schools, the practices in action and social and disciplinary environment at
schools. This research project is focused on eight case studies held in schools of different grades,
located in the centre of Portugal. Both qualitative (interviews and ethnographic observation) and
quantitative methodologies (pupils questionnaires) have been used.

Schools are complex, formal organisations that, as such, include behaviours of diverse actors,
organised and interconnected by a structure of authority and a network of relationships that allow
partial and unfinished information, resources and products pass from one group to another (Bates and
Murray, 1981, 58). According to these authors, school is structurally grouped in two kinds the
elementary groups and the interstitial groups . The former constitutes basic structural elements or
social units (for example, the class, the group of teachers of a certain subject or field of knowledge,
the administrative sector, etc.), while the latter, formed by the representatives of the elementary
groups, are connexion groups which origin a network of links in the system s structure (for example,
the pedagogical council, the school and/or school group assembly, the class councils, the board of the
parents association). It is inside these interstitial groups that the contact between the members of the
isolated elementary groups is established. Research has not given much attention to the role of the
interstitial groups, although the organisation of schools in the Portuguese educational system assigns
them a strong leading role. The organisation of these groups, established in Portuguese schools, holds
a potential of collective work to promoting a favourable school environment to students learning

He enjoys a nice home cooked meal as he talks with his two children at the dinner table often about the troubles Beav has found his way into in the sitcom Leave it to Beaver. A show that aired in the late 50 s teaching life lessons to its viewers and most importantly representing the ideal nuclear family. Needless to say, we have come a long way from the white picket fence and 2.5 children as the model representation of an American family. Today, families are modeled in all different shapes and sizes. Two parent, single parent, multiple parents, or even extended family members can be seen raising the children. These families have developed over the past 60 years due to many reasons. The societal changes occurring over time and economical effects on both micro and macro levels, and the evolution of gender roles along with many other causes have all played a role in developing the family. By the 1990 s, the census reported that only about 21% of married couples lived with their children. (Morgan 1996) In 40 years, the ideal nuclear family had dropped to 21%, and due to the rise in divorce rates during the 80 s, the percentage of stepchildren was projected to rise to 33%. (Morgan 1996) Now decades later, stepfamilies do indeed make up 1/3 of American households. With the growing changes in families and the people that make up families, many new concerns are being developed about the legal rights and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are classical conditioning and operant learning as explained by B.F Skinner and. Ivan Pavlov .In classical conditioning, there are responses, usually involuntary which are as a result of experiences which occur before the response in question. This conditioning occurs when one learns to associate two different stimuli. Operant conditioning, on the other hand, changes in behavior which result from experiences which occur after the said response result in learning. This involves changes in voluntary behaviours. These two theories share many procedures and basic principles. The basic principles of extinction, spontaneous recovery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such a schedule causes a high and steady rate of responding. Examples of reward based on variable ratio schedules are gambling and lottery . A fixed ratio schedule , on the other hand, refers to a reinforcement schedule where a response is only reinforced after a specified number of responses. These schedules produce a high and steady rate of responding but with a brief pause after the delivery of the given reinforcer. An experiment to show the application of reinforcement can be given as follows. A rat is placed in a skinner box. The Skinner box is such that it has a bar or lever which the rat can press or manipulate in a given way when it wants to obtain either food or water from the reinforcer. In the experiment, the box provides also a means of recording the various responses of the animal. In the experiment, various schedules of reinforcement will be applied and the responses of the rat recorded. The rat then will receive a food pellet whenever they manipulate the lever. Some rats will receive a food pellet each time they peck the lever and others receive food pellets after manipulating the lever for a given number of times say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Frederick Douglass, The Most Famous African American... Frederick Douglass is the most famous African American abolitionists and the greatest American orators. Throughout American history, African Americans were victims of American governmental policies of harsh slavery. However, Frederick Douglass transforms the way people should understand slavery. He takes charge of upholding slavery to himself and defends the freedom for those in slavery. While other African Americans did not have a voice, he became the voice for African American slavery. In this way, Frederick Douglass is a mental and physical hero because of his courage and achieving freedom from slavery through his strength of character and education. Frederick Douglass portrays himself as a physical and mental hero through courage in his autobiography, beginning from slavery at birth to freedom of escape. He refuses to accept anything less than his own physical, spiritual, and intellectual freedom. Moreover, he never hesitates to focus on his determination. According to the Litigation, one of the first acts of courage in Douglass life is teaching other slaves to read the New Testament with over forty people attending his classes. His master retaliates against his courage by sending him to another owner (Mr. Covey) who has a reputation for breaking courageous slaves. At that moment during his time with Mr. Covey, Douglass fights back because of this spirit that comes to him. That spirit is his courage. He gains courage to impose the effects of slavery and ... This is the name of the main building on Winthrop University s campus and is the name of the clock tower at Clemson University. These two buildings have faced quite a number of racial incidences over the past couple of years due to the founder of the two buildings, Benjamin R. Tillman. Many people have raised the issue of having the name changed to something different over the past couple of years but no changes have been made. There hope is to end the racial incidences that occur and ultimately stop racism on these two campuses. The major question at hand is will changing the name of Tillman Hall reduce the number of race induced incidents? I do think that changing the name of Tillman Hall on both of these two campuses will reduce racial incidences due to the fact that this changes the atmosphere of the school and really holds itself up to its diversity standard, the changing of the name does not change history but it shows that we as a people have come far and don t need someone like Benjamin Tillman at the center representing us, and it is very likely that these racial incidents will be put to an end as the violent racist and his legacy is gone. Tillman Hall which was originally known as Main Building was built in 1894 and served as the main point of Winthrop University s Campus. Winthrop opened in 1895 and started out as an all female college. This was the first state supported college in South Carolina. The U.S. Senator and Governor of South Carolina ... The Levi Strauss 501 advertising campaign was so successful in 1984 1990 as it attracted the typical American teens selling independence, sexuality and physical good looks, representing the perfect figure and body. It illustrated a complete lifestyle to the teenagers world. Admiring the fantasy of idols James Dean and Marlon Brando, all connecting to the Levi guys (jeans) in the adverts, giving the impression of a sensual, healthy radiant aspect, to the gazed audience. The adverts kept changing, the colour of the jeans changed from blue to black. They purposely did this to make more money because since World War 11, people had more wealth. The teens had to be in with the latest fashion. There is plenty of iconography throughout the adverts. The image of a dark, muscled, tanned bloke appears in each advert. This independent, sexy guy is in it, as it will attract more customers to buy the jeans, thinking they will be like him (or the Levi s girl, who is stunning, free and healthy too). The camera will constantly focus on the jeans, encouraging you to buy them. American styles emerge in every advert. A good example is the sunsets. Usually at the end, a car (or Harley Davidson) will disappear into the sunset leaving with happy thoughts. Or skyscrapers will crop up in the background reminding you it originated in America! The red label on the jeans means everything so it is repeated frequently, many big close ups are used on them. At the beginning of each advertisement music commences. • 11. “Metaphors,” Written By Sylvia Plath, Is A Riddle Poem. Metaphors, written by Sylvia Plath, is a riddle poem. Throughout the poem, Plath uses figures of speech, alliteration, and other literary devices to reveal her central theme. Like a riddle, the reader must use Plath s literary devices to unveil the answer to the riddle. While Metaphors does not use a traditional form or meter, its unusual structure also points to the main idea Plath presents. Plath s Metaphors is a riddle poem whose solution, pregnancy, is solved using literary devices and other clues within the poem. Plath s poem is classified as a riddle poem. Literary Contexts in Poetry: Sylvia Plath s Metaphors defines riddle poems as built on the fundamental referential power of language, or the power of a word, or groups ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plath s use of the number nine is yet another key to solving the riddle. Continuing the descriptions of the physical transformation of pregnancy, Plath uses another metaphor in line two: An elephant, a ponderous house, (2). The first metaphor of the elephant displays the physical transformation a pregnant woman undergoes. The obvious transformations of weight gain and unflattering associations of slow and difficult gait (Devi, p. 2, 2006) are reflected in the elephant metaphor. The ponderous house refers the bulky figure of a pregnant woman ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). G. Devi also points out that the woman is like a house as the speaker sees herself as a shelter for the child growing inside her (p. 2, 2006). Plath again portrays the physical changes of pregnancy in line three: A melon strolling on two tendrils (3). The line s imagery allows the reader to gain a mental picture of a large melon carefully walking on two thin legs. This line also employs personification as the melon is given the human quality of walking ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). The melon is also metaphor of fertility. Like a fetus, a melon fruit is the most valuable part of the plant (Devi, p. 2, 2006). Plath continues the value of pregnancy in line four: O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers! (4). • 12. Review Of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep Bryan Rosendo MHC 354 Composition and Style Prof. Russo Bullaro Thursday, December 1, 2016 Email: gjabr12@gmail.com What It Means to Be Human? Phillip K. Dick, American science fiction writer, delivers a story that emphasizes that there really is no major difference between the human and non human, or in this case, the android. The androids presented in the book serve as a means of redefining what it means to be human. Humans have now entered this new age of technology and with it, have attained the ability to push pre existing mental and physical boundaries. Abstract: The boundaries of what it means to be human is constantly shifting. As we enter the Posthuman age, the altered posthuman is becoming the new human. In Phillip K Dick s novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? androids serve and live alongside humans in the post war Earth. The indistinguishability of the new Nexus 6 model android and a human creates the context for the question what does it mean to be human. This paper will analyze the connection between the posthuman and the human. With rapid advancements in technology, the human rapidly advances alongside it. This paper will also examine the novel s main portrayal of the two opposing beings. To conclude, the paper will touch upon the differences that seem to separate the two and whether or not there truly are any. The concept of Posthumansim blurs the line of the human and non human. • 13. A Research Study On The Axon Essay 1. A neuron is a cell that receives messages from receptors and then sends them to other neurons. The structure consists of multiple parts. Starting with the dendrites, short projections out of the cell body that are very tree like because of the branch like appearance. They receive the electrical impulses from the receptors and the impulses flow into the cell body or soma. The soma is the part of the cell that is the main part of the neuron that holds the nucleus and cytoplasm. It makes it so the whole cell is working and being alive, in other words the body. Then the electrical impulse is sent down through axon. The axon is a thin extension out of the soma. It acts like a cable or cord. The axon has a protective coating called the myelin sheath. It s made up of a mix of fat and proteins. Then once the impulse has traveled through the axon it exits that individual neuron through the short knobs on the ends of the extended fibers from the axon called the axon terminals. The axon terminals the talkers of the neuron. Its job is to communicate with other cells. The way it communicates is through this little junction called the synapse. The electrical impulse then repeats the process going from neuron to neuron until it either reaches the brain or the spinal cord. 2. Neurons communicate through electrical impulses and chemicals. This all happens within the small space in between the axon terminal and the next neurons dendrites. This space is filled with fluids which have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Environment Values And Values The environment impacts human beings negatively and positively in many aspects. The environment provides humans many things from things like water, air, nutrients, water cycling for agriculture and disease prevention or recreation. These things are give to humans for free, so why do not we value the environment. The environment provides us with many things which we need to survive on day to day basis, which is one of the reason why I value another environment. The second reason being the instrumental value, meaning that being in and seeing nature bring people satisfaction. To me being nature helps me keep my mental wellness positive if there are any issues or negative problems, which I am unable to resolve. Being in nature gives me that satisfaction and promotes me to solve them. Second being the intrinsic value that nature can stand alone. I believe this because humans came to earth, environment existed before. The environment could sustain and preserve it self before, it is due to human s activities that is destroying the environment. We all acquire beliefs and values from many sources. We all react differently to life experiences which ultimately influences the way in which we see and interpret the world around us. The following factors of schooling system, parents and government/ health safety sector, have influenced me to the see environment in such perspective. The Navajos did not make war just to steal and kill; they earned their reputation as warriors fighting to protect their lands, properties, and families and a just cause it was. The Navajo tribe is one of the oldest and is the largest tribe in the United States and branches from the Apache tribe. Their characteristics and traditions of clothing, shelter, and food are still around today. This tribe is known for their peacefulness and religious beliefs and 0many experts consider their lifestyle to have been a wealth of culture. They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from the many hardships they faced, even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally passed on to younger generations from elders, and even other tribes that the navajos branched from. They formed a very distinct type of religion known as the Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional compared to other native american religions. Some of their rituals used in healing members of the tribe could last for days and even over a week. Every aspect of their life involved some type of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and harvesting they would pray, sing, and dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. (P4) In this assignment I will be explaining the physiology of two named body systems in relation to energy metabolism in the body, the Respiration system and the Digestive system. I will start off by giving a definition of energy metabolism in the body. Metabolism in the body is a collection of chemical reactions that takes place in the body s cells. Metabolism converts the nutrients in the food that we eat in to essential energy which is needed to power all that we do, from something as little as thinking to growing physically or carrying out a physical activity. In our body s, there are a specific protein which controls the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discuss the role of energy in the body (M1) In our bodies we need energy so that we could do things that are possible such as move our muscles, talk and all the other things that we do. Without energy all humans would be useless not being able to do anything. Energy is needed to extract the oxygen from the areas in our bodies and diffuse it into our bloodstream. Supplying enough energy to support the functions of the body in a daily basis is one of the main reasons for food. This energy comes from the fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in the food you eat. Of the three, fat is the most concentrated source of energy. Energy requirements are normally put in terms of calories. The energy requirement for a person is spilt into two parts: basal metabolic requirements and energy required for activity. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the heat taken from the body at rest when temperature is normal. An average person requires 2000 2500 Calories per day while the difference for a large man doing heavy work may require up to 6000 Calories per day. When you choose foods that have more energy, or Calories than you need, the excess energy is stored as fat in the body which will results in putting on some weight. If too little food is eaten to meet energy demands, the body s stored fat serves as an energy source and this will result in weight loss. Your weight stays about the same if the energy from food matches the energy requirements of the body. As warm blooded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Public workers such as fire fighters, park rangers and police officers were not impacted by the changes to the bill as other public employees. • 40. Andrew Still s Osteopathic Paper The son of a doctor and a pastor, Andrew Still (1828 1917) believed that the human being was the perfect being, of divine origin. This belief went on to be a key component for the basis of his research in the establishment of osteopathy. Dr. Still believed that the medical treatments and practices available to him at the time were highly unorthodox, ineffective and that they had the potential to be harmful. In 1864 shortly after the conclusion of the civil war, Still lost his 3 children due to spinal meningitis and it was this incident that further fortified Still to seek an alternative way of treatment. Dr. Still went on to spend the next 10 years of his life analysing and examining the human body exploring alternate ways to treat pain and disease. In addition to Still theorising his own ... Still s research and analysis led him to the conclusion that the muskoskeletal system played a vital role in one s individual health, moreover that a properly aligned muskoskeletal system was the explanation for good health. With this information Still had realised the relationship between structure and function and he theorised that the disease process arises when the flow of life is interrupted (Still, 1908). Thereafter Still formulated a hands on approach to treatment; now commonly known as osteopathic manual therapy (OMM). This non invasive treatment method was believed by Still to cure disease, treat pain and re establish flow within the body. Rather than just focusing on the manifestations of injury or illness in a patient, Still would instead seek to explore and understand the cause. You wonder what Osteopathy is; you look in the medical dictionary and find as its definition bone disease. That is a grave mistake. It is compounded of two words, osteon, meaning bone, pathos, pathine, to suffer. Greek lexicographers say it is a proper name for a science founded on a knowledge of bones. So instead of bone disease it really means usage. (Still, 1987, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Organized Chaos Society, on the outside, is organized chaos. Take Chicago for instance, if we removed rules and time, it would be in turmoil. Crime, chaos, disorder; the city would not last more than aday. If we add in laws, and enforced them with police, much of that chaos would subside. However, the city would still crumble, and again, would die within the first 24 hours. The fundamental rule which keeps a society together is time. Time holds society together, but in doing so controls what we can and cannot achieve in our short lives. If humans never accepted the concept of time, how would we function? MANAGING AND HANDLING INDISCIPLINE IN SCHOOLS A RESEARCH PROJECT ISABEL FREIRE, UNIVERSIDADE DE LISBOA JOÃO AMADO, UNIVERSIDADE DE COIMBRA ABSTRACT The research project we present here in (entitled GERLINDES, in Portuguese) is set out with the assumption that there is a link among the representations and the actions within the members of the interstitial groups of schools, the practices in action and social and disciplinary environment at schools. This research project is focused on eight case studies held in schools of different grades, located in the centre of Portugal. Both qualitative (interviews and ethnographic observation) and quantitative methodologies (pupils questionnaires) have been used. KEYWORDS Indiscipline ; School ethos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schools are complex, formal organisations that, as such, include behaviours of diverse actors, organised and interconnected by a structure of authority and a network of relationships that allow partial and unfinished information, resources and products pass from one group to another (Bates and Murray, 1981, 58). According to these authors, school is structurally grouped in two kinds the elementary groups and the interstitial groups . The former constitutes basic structural elements or social units (for example, the class, the group of teachers of a certain subject or field of knowledge, the administrative sector, etc.), while the latter, formed by the representatives of the elementary groups, are connexion groups which origin a network of links in the system s structure (for example, the pedagogical council, the school and/or school group assembly, the class councils, the board of the parents association). It is inside these interstitial groups that the contact between the members of the isolated elementary groups is established. Research has not given much attention to the role of the interstitial groups, although the organisation of schools in the Portuguese educational system assigns them a strong leading role. The organisation of these groups, established in Portuguese schools, holds a potential of collective work to promoting a favourable school environment to students learning ...
