Improving The Performance Of Rapid Re Housing Programs And...
Alternative 3 Home to Stay One way D.C. can enhance the performance of Rapid Re Housing
programs and lower the rate of individuals/families returning back to homelessness is to emulate the
model that NYC has been following for the past few years. A few years ago NYC launched the Home
to Stay program (Bornstein, 2014). Home to Stay is a partnership between New York s Department of
Homeless Services and four other organizations committed to fighting homelessness (Bornstein,
2014). Home to Stay uses an evidence based protocol known as Family Critical Time Intervention
which is intended to motivate individuals and heads of families over nine months to take an advantage
of support services, such as addiction and mental health counseling, conflict mediation, and
improvement of job prospects (Bornstein, 2014). The program follows an extensive and rigorous
screening procedure in order identify and select the most vulnerable and needy homeless individuals
and families who must have access to the supportive services the program provides (Bornstein, 2014).
Though Home to Stay does not target the homelessness population as a whole, program expansion is a
future possibility. While there is no concrete data that measures the performance of Home to Stay,
testimonies from individuals and families that participated in the program indicate that there is a
promising future (Bornstein, 2014). Individuals and families that were previously homeless believe
that Home to Stay is a

Catcher In The Rye Analysis
The Catcher in the Rye is a novel written by J.D. Salinger that occurs around the 1950s. The story s
protagonist and narrator is Holden Caulfield, a seventeen year old white male, who journeys to various
places as he mourns over the death of his little brother, Allie. As a white male in a capitalist society, he
has tremendous amounts of privileges that allow him to get. However, as the novel progresses, Holden
describes his society as a place where honored human qualities are suppressed and capitalist ideals are
embraced. Throughout the novel, we see that capitalism, the social system based on the recognition of
individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned , destroys the
overall society for Holden and his generation (Rand). We can see Holden s critiques of capitalism in
chapter 17, when he and Sally, a compelling young lady that Holden has known for quite a long time,
are at the ice skating rink and they discuss their views on school. Holden views school as a feeding
ground for empty headed students to consume the ideals of. Holden explains, You ought to go to a
boys school sometime...It s full of phonies, and all you do is study... to be smart enough to be able to
buy a goddam Cadillac (Salinger 131). In making this argument, Salinger urges us to see Holden s
negative perspective on capitalism. Holden believes that schools have a direct connection to
capitalism because the teachings associate education with

Male Genital Mutilation Essay
Male Genital Mutilation Female genital mutilation in foreign countries is a hot topic that many people
stand up against. It is frowned upon by western civilization and there are entire organizations coming
to the rescue of female genital mutilation victims, yet very few stand up against male circumcision. If
female genital mutilation is illegal, why isn t male genital mutilation? Circumcision is a procedure
done primarily on infant males, in which the foreskin is surgically separated from the glans and cut
off. It started out as a religious procedure but was eventually adopted by medical personnel and
preformed regularly on male infants in the US. The removing of the foreskin is painful, can cause
severe damage, bleeding, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this logic, as the years go on male genital mutilation would eventually be performed on nearly all
babies in the US. I was given no additional information as to why it should be done, no pros and cons,
and no medical proof to back up her reasoning for why I should have my infant circumcised. My
experience with this nurse spiked my curiosity; I was appalled that doctors and nurses just assumed I
would blindly let them permanently take off a part of my child s genitals, acting as if it was routine
like the cutting of a baby s umbilical

Damien Hirst Art Work Essay

Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness The artist of whose work I observed was
Damien Hirst. He was born June 7 1965 and is an English artist, entrepreneur and art collector. The
piece of art I observed was Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness , it is a gloss

stained glass windows from a gothic cathedral. The piece is on display at the Cleveland Museum of art

Damien Hirst is a Conceptual artist because his work most often takes precedence over and traditional
matters or ideas. This is shown by his work with dead animals and preserving them, which is most
often frowned upon. Hirst is known to be a contemporary artist with his work being very modern and
spread throughout the country in galleries, exhibits, and even private collections. The Cleveland
Museum of Art holds Damien Hirst s Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness on
special loan for five years. It also holds many different exceptional pieces that include Asian and
Egyptian art, and its own Picasso collection. It holds 43,000 works of art from around the world. The
Museum holds so much history and offers free admission to its public to come and absorb some of
world s greatest works of art the Cleveland is lucky to have on display.
Damien Hirst is a widely known artist that is known to be one of the richest artists to be alive today.
His work moves many people for many different reasons and is known for its controversy, beauty, and

The Effects Of Elevated Carbon Dioxide ( Co2 ) Essay
2. Impact of Elevated Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a trace gas accounting for about 0.039 per cent or 390 ppm currently. CO2
concentration increases by 1 to 3 ppm every year primarily because of burning of fossil fuels. In
future, by 2100 the atmospheric CO2 concentration should reach 600 to 750 ppm. Plants are directly
influenced by increase in CO2 concentration; and increase in CO2 affects many physiological
processes like photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, reproductive processes, and yield. CO2
diffuses from the atmosphere into leaves, via., stomata into mesophyll cells, intercellular spaces, cells,
and finally reach chloroplast for photosynthetic process. Increasing CO2 concentration in the
atmosphere will enhance the photosynthesis and dry matter production. The response to CO2 varies
among species mainly by the enzyme RuBisCo (RuBP). C3 plants readily react by increasing the
activity of RuBP carboxylase and by reducing the activity of RuBP oxygenase. Increase in
photosynthesis by 25% 75% was observed over doubling of atmospheric CO2. C4 plants show little
response to elevated CO2. Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plants also showed an increase in
photosynthetic rate. The increasing concentration of CO2 by burning of fossil fuels can be reduced by
improving the carbon fixation in the plants. Short term exposure of CO2 on plants shows increased
photosynthesis, whereas long term exposure shows variation in photosynthesis and also plant growth.

Southern Appalachian Culture
When one thinks of the Appalachians, one generally thinks of the mountains of the southeastern
region of the United States. However the Mountain range itself actually begins in the Canadian
province of Newfoundland and Labrador, extending from there for almost 2,000 miles (3,200 km) to
central Alabama in the United States. Thus the region also forms the eastern counterpart of the
Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Southern Appalachia alone includes three hundred counties covering most of West Virginia and the
Southern Highlands or Upland South. The mountains form a natural barrier between the eastern
Coastal Plain and the vast Interior Lowlands of North America. As a result, they have played a vital
role in the settlement and development of the entire continent.
Despite the vast geographical distance, the peoples of the Appalachians (state side) maintain a unified
identity through shared cultural identities; dialect, building practices, folk music and dance, crafts,
superstitions and religion, and moonshine unite all 1500 miles of these mountains. The inhabitants of
this region largely descended from English and Scottish Irish folk traditions, brought to the region by
colonial immigrants. There were also smaller influences from other ... Show more content on

Great Depression of the 1930s put an end to the commercial viability of old time music, it would be

Star Spangled Banner And Star Spangled Banner, By...
Bloodshed and the tyranny of battle has inspired art since the beginning of recorded history. In essence
though, the main purpose of war is to protect or enhance the liberties of the people and their families
fighting. Due to the complex and utter horrific experiences that happen during battle, naturally people
want to dedicate a long standing piece of work to honor those who have endured those traumatic
experiences for the greater good. Two examples of art being centered around war are the Star
Spangled Banner, by Francis Scott Key, and a sculpture entitled The Fountain of Eternal Life, by
Marshall Fredericks. When these two works are broken down into their key elements it is apparent
that there are key similarities between the images these works create, and the reasons they were
created; in addition to their connection to civil liberties. One must consider the differences between
the works as well, such as the mediums in which they were created, the theme of the works, and what
they were dedicated to. To be concise, both Key and Fredericks created two extremely different works
of art that have overlapping ideals, and have a strong connection to civil liberties. Civil liberties are
the basic human rights guaranteed to every person. Those rights include ideas like the freedom of
speech, press, and assembly, freedom of religion, and the open pursuit of happiness. A more personal
definition of civil liberties is the ability to be able to live whatever life one wants

The Legacy of E.E. Cummings
Edward Cummings was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1894. His father was a professor at
Harvard, leading Cummings to attend Harvard from 1911 1915 (Poetry for Students vol.3). At a young
age Cummings showed a strong interest in poetry and art. His first published poems appeared in the
anthology Eight Harvard poets in 1917. During WW1 Cummings volunteered for the French based
ambulance service and he spent four years in an internment camp in Normandy on suspicion of
treason (Poetry for Students vol.3). When Cummings returned to New York, he pursued painting but
was drafted in 1918. During the 1920 s and the 1930 s Cummings traveled throughout Europe,

Anyone can relate to the feeling of being lonely at one point in their life. In result, when someone
feels lonely it s probably because they are not around friends or family, and just want to be able to
have conversation. It also could mean someone wants to stray themselves away from the crowd
because they want to be alone, that being said, everyone needs those silent moments to have for
themselves. However, whichever situation it may be people still feel that loneliness every once in a
while, and that s what this poem is relaying. This last poem was first published in 95 poems , it s
called Maggie and Milly and Moly and May . Since all of their names start with M, it could be a
symbol for an aspect of me (Poetry For student s vol.12). This is another poem representing an
experiment with rhymed couplets. This poem is written in the tone and style of a nursery rhyme.
Nursery rhymes do not all share a single poetic form, but they are usually marked by their use of end
line rhyme. Most likely the four children represent four young girls. This poem depicts children at
play. It describes four children who have gone to the beach to play and describes what each child finds
in the process. Maggie a shell, Milly a starfish, Molly a horrible thing , and May a smooth round stone
(Poetry For students vol.12). Each item is symbolic, because each child is finding something of
themselves. The main theme of the poem is a search for the self, of identity. Each young

Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations Essay
The pivotal second chapter of Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations, quot;Of the Principle which gives
occasion to the Division of Labour, quot; opens with the oft cited claim that the foundation of modern
political economy is the human quot;propensity to truck, barter, and exchange one thing for another.
quot;1 This formulation plays both an analytical and normative role. It offers an anthropological
microfoundation for Smith s understanding of how modern commercial societies function as social
organizations, which, in turn, provide a venue for the expression and operation of these human
proclivities. Together with the equally famous concept of the invisible hand, this sentence defines the
central axis of a new science of political economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, with this emphasis on spontaneous coordination, Smith pointed to the possibility of a
social order in which people live in harmony together with a minimum need of a central, coercive
apparatus. He captured the central intuition of classical economists according to which modern
commercial society, notwithstanding its conflicts, obeys a kind of pre established order, and enjoys the
advantage of a mechanism, the market, which maintains equilibria by continually adjusting competing
interests.
Over time, this powerful theoretical proposition has become a legitimating cornerstone for the robust
defense of market capitalism, a particular ensemble of political institutions, and a specific line of
justification for liberal ideas and values. Though manifestly plausible as an accurate reading of Smith
when Wealth of Nations is read on its own, even on these terms, this interpretation, is limited and
partial. Astonishingly, and disappointingly, most readers of Wealth of Nations fail to attend the very
next sentence that follows Smith s seemingly transhistorical, objectivist theory of human dispositions,
mindful of Mandeville s classical representation of human egoism. Smith immediately probed more
deeply by asking quot;Whether this propensity be one of those original principles in human nature of
which no further account can be given; or whether, as

Assignment Questions On Recruiting, Screening, And...
Workbook Questions #1 Initial Stage
P.13 #2. How would you go about recruiting, screening, and selecting members for one of your
groups?
In accordance with The Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW) the Best Practice
Guidelines, I want to make direct contact with my population. Therefore, I would create flyers that
accurately advertise and describe the group purpose in resource centers that cater to gay men. Such
resources would include; HIV/AIDS clinics such as the Orlando Immunology Center, The Center for
the LGBTQ community, Hope and Help, and other professionals that work closely with the LGBTQ
community. Professionals, such as counselors, doctors, and social workers can distribute the printed
information about my group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These issues and goals would be discussed with each potential member by each of the two counselors
during an interview process in a private office. Consequently, the counselors would explain
confidentiality and the group policies at this time. Because of the stigma around HIV/AIDS, the
potential members would be asked if they are willing to sign a contract stating that they would not talk
about other members outside of the group or identify other members as being part of the group to the
public.
Member selection would consist partly of the counselor s instinct of who would fit the dynamics
needed to help the group grow and change. However, I want group members who want to feel better
about their diagnosis and willing to work in and outside the group. Members who have come to the
interview process prepared to talk about feelings and goals are highly considered (psychologically
minded). Our group is looking for members who want a Positive Outlook about their diagnosis, while
understanding that some may not be in the frame of mind to think positively yet. Difficult members
will not automatically be dismissed because they may need the most help with coping with their
disease.
For this group, the potential member should be in one of the first three stages of change. Therefore,
some of my questions would be to establish what stage of change the client is in and the commitment
level to reaching change.

Louisa May Alcott Hospital Dress Character Analysis
In a time when great uncertainty and chaos permeated throughout the United States, the Civil War
necessitated the involvement of millions of Americans. Among those millions, women found
themselves in conditions that had been previously unknown to them. Louisa May Alcott s Hospital
Sketches, written in 1863, exemplifies a Northern woman s changing role in society as she enters the
previously unchartered territory of war. New conditions aside, one cannot argue that the Civil War
solved gender inequality in the United States. How, then, was the Civil War simultaneously a step
forward and a step backward for Northern women? The Civil War indeed broadened the scope of a
Northern woman s position in society militarily, professionally, and politically. However, as shown by
Hospital Sketches protagonist, Tribulation Periwinkle s, position as an army nurse, those opportunities
did not extend outside the domestic sphere to which women had been confined since the creation of
the United States. First, the most obvious new condition that emerged during the Civil War was the
acceptance of women becoming directly involved in the war effort. Such a novel concept to women
was the opportunity to express the same sense of nationalism that men exhibited when going off to
war. When Tribulation Periwinkle, a pseudonym for Louisa May Alcott in Hospital Sketches, decides
to become an army nurse, she announces her new position with the same tone and vigor that a young
soldier might utilize to

The Deck Poem
Many died from the unhygienic state of the deck, others from sea sickness, as this was the first time
most of us had ever been on a boat. Time seemed to crawl on, until suddenly the white folk wanted us
up deck. They dragged us by the chains around our necks and whipped anyone who couldn t keep up.
Once we were all gathered up deck, some of the white folk began playing some music on drums. The
seemingly leader of the white folk encouraged us to dance. It was humiliating. They jeered and
laughed at us, as if we were animals at a circus, not only that but they mocked our culture and music.
A young girl at the very edge of the crowd began shifting, little by little towards the edge of the boat. I
noticed the man next to me watching her as well.

However, when it comes to the spirit of innovation, it is seem that this rationalized rigidity of roles

the managers and plans and they pay most attention to the operation and the immediate outcome

The Impact Of Shale Gas Revolution On Natural Gas From...
A crisis in global energy consumption has been increasingly discussed in many world energy forums
which concern in the diminishing of fossil fuel and natural gas. Consequently, the US government has
attempted to seek a new resource to serve the global energy demand (SHAFIEE, 2009). The natural
gas from shale formation, abundant resources in US, has been discovered for a long time but there is
no efficient method to extract the natural gas from this formation. Moreover, the route to convey the
large amount of shale gas is one of our challenge that must be safe for human and environment, and it
should be a low cost technique as well (ARMOR, 2013). Furthermore, the impact of shale gas
revolution should be realized in a consequence of local protesters at the drilling sites or people who
are directly affected from the extraction projects. Therefore, the aims of this project are to describe the
most feasible technique and the future prospects in natural gas from shale formation.
Background and Significance
In a few decades, global natural gas demand has still sharply grown up every year. The world s crude
oil and natural gas reserves are usually the main resources for energy consumptions in our world.
Consequently, the total amount of these reserves has been significantly regarded by the leading
industrial countries (WANG, 2014). US government, especially, is the first leader who has attempted
to seek the new energy resources for the American energy consumption (Fig. 1). Although

The Presumption of Innocence Down Under
While the Australian legal system abides by the principle of the presumption of innocence, there are
several ways in which courtrooms and their respective rituals, rules and characteristics, contradict the
notion of judicial proceedings being in favour of the accused (CLRG, 1972; Mark, 1973). Indeed,
Friedman and Percival (1976) have suggested that courts now embody efficient processing routine, as
opposed to adjudication. Judicial proceedings can often be characterised by complex legal
terminology that manipulates individuals and exerts power, spatial dominance achieved by furniture
placement, and other rituals which often perpetuate (often unfounded) irrational fears held by both the
accused persons and witnesses. The following observations were noted at the Downing Centre on the
21st of March, 2014 in court rooms 3.1, 5.1 and 5.3. Spatial Organisation As Carlen stated in his
contribution to the British Journal of Criminology, spacing impacts heavily upon peoples ability to
effectively participate in the rituals of court, as well as their ability to defend themselves. Furthermore,
spacing maps out the specific rights and duties individuals have with regards to certain ritual
occasions (1976:50). Upon entering Local Court 5.1, one could immediately notice the power held by
the presiding magistrate. She was seated behind a large, raised podium almost spanning from one side
of the room to the other; the coat of arms raised higher up on the wall directly behind her for all

The Star Wars Franchise Can Best Be Described As Mixed
At this stage, my relationship status with the Star Wars franchise can best be described as mixed.
There have been bumps in the road, but overall, I have had a lifelong appreciation, some might say
obsession, with Star Wars episodes 4 6 especially; so much so that as a youth:
I read the novelization of Star Wars an innumerable amount of times (don t ask me to recall anything);
as well taking multiple trips to the library to read articles and companion books about the Star Wars
universe. Big deal you might say, but I will admit, even now, to not being the most voracious of
readers so this was in fact quite a feat of accomplishment for me. Founded my own Star Wars fan club

But I digress.
All of this to say Star Wars was a major part of my life. And in many ways, I can credit these three
films being one part of what got me so passionate about movies. In fact, I give them a lot of credit.
Even as I got older and my cinematic tastes broadened and came to include multiple genres, there
were still moments of fond recollection as I recalled these films. During my college years, I paid
service to this mindset going to the re release of at least one film (I think it was The Empire Strikes
Back). If my roommate is reading this, I hope she will confirm which one(s) me might have seen in
Charlottesville.
So, you can imagine my excitement at the very mention of prequels (Episodes 1 3) ...

Needless to say, it did feel like a part of my childhood had been decimated by a world weary, adult
level of cynicism. It followed that seeing these films felt more like an obligation than an event one
meets great anticipation. I feared, maybe the magic was gone forever.
Years of dormancy followed, filled with the continued excitement of simply going to the movies,
attending film festivals and just the business of getting on with one s adult life.

Elizabeth Cady Argument Analysis
If Elizabeth Cady Stanton was alive today, she would be definitely pleased to see the advancements of
women s rights, however, she would not be completely satisfied and probably disappointed to see that
many of the issues she brought up during her time are still being dealt with today. Elizabeth Cady
Stanton was highly critical of the sexual double standard and the lack of equal education for women.
She believed that men should be placed at the same moral standard as women and that women should
be given the same opportunity in education as men. Remarkably, women today have advanced far
more in education than with the sexual double standard, however, the sexual double standard has
come to collide with women s education. Stanton saw that men ... Show more content on

In the Declaration of Sentiments, Stanton writes, That the same amount of virtue, delicacy, and
refinement of behavior that is required of women in the social state, should also be required of man...
(DuBois and Dunmeil A 3). Note how Stanton does not state that women should be allowed to be
sexually free like men, instead she states that women should keep their high standards, but men should
be raised to that standard as well (DuBois 30). Therefore, men should be punished in the same way as
women are to be punished. In addition to leveling the plane on morality, Stanton demands that women
should have the right to be trailed by a jury of our own peers (DuBois 46). By allowing women to be
part of the jury in criminal cases, specifically the cases involving women and sex, more men would be
held responsible for their actions. In the case of Abson, the jury who found her guilty and let the black
man go free was most likely a jury filled with men. Stanton would argue that she was unfairly tried
because according to her, men fails to do justice to women in her best estate, and that she was not
represented in the jury. In her 1854 address to the Legislature of NewYotk, Stanton points out how no
rank of men have ever been satisfied with being tried by jurors higher or lower in the civil or political
scale than themselves, that slaveholders cannot make laws and execute laws for slaves, nor can
nobleman do the same for peasants, therefore she states that neither can man make and execute just
laws for women (DuBois 46). Consequently, if the moral standard were to be raised for men, then
women will have to be represented in the jury for criminal cases so men will be held

This lighting effect created a quick and effective set change that immediately set the mood. Overall,
the lighting was done in an amazing way that looked professional, and helped with setting the mood.
The costumes were absolutely amazing, every character looked colourful, while still fitting their part.
A few great costumes were Joseph s coat, and the brothers costumes. Joseph s coat was very effective,
the vibrant colours allowed the coat to stand out, but the most impressive part was when they
incorporated the coat into the dance. There was a part in the dance where the brothers gathered around
Joseph, and they each grabbed a part of the coat to create a circle of his coat to surround him. This was
effective because it brought the attention towards Joseph in a fun and mystical way. Joseph s brothers
had costumes that looked very realistic, and belonging in the time period. This made the audience
become enwrapped in the story, since the clothing looks so real, it makes the audience forget they are
watching a play. Overall, the costumes were amazing, the colour and realism made them pop out and
indulge the audience. The acting and blocking were perfect when done by the professional actors, their
movements were clear and sharp, and their facial expressions were quirky and eye catching. An

Review Of Fall All About Color
Fall is all about color. This is the time when Mother Nature brings out her paint pallet and colors the
landscape with warm beautiful colors of reds, browns, maroons, yellow and purple. Fall is the time to
put away summer colors and summer decorations and transform the home into a warm welcoming
space. Decorating for fall means decorating with warm colors, dried flowers and wreaths, scents of
autumn, cinnamon and spice and candles. Here is how to take your home from summer into fall
without breaking your budget. Go through each room and remove anything that speaks of summer.
Take down the pictures at the beach; put away the sand candle and the shells. Remove the pillows with
the cute little fish and sea horses. Pack them away until next year. Next scour the house, the closets,
attic, and the pantry for anything fall colored. Glass ware , bowls, fabric, candles, frames, mirrors,
pillows, throws, throw rugs, pictures, any thing in brown, orange ,yellow, green, red, maroon and
purple. With a sharp pair of garden shears go out to the garden or yard and look for dried material.
Weeds are only plants growing in an unwanted place, so if they are dried and look good, cut them
down and bring them inside. Grasses, foxtails, tree branches, herbs, and dried flowers can all be used.
Also gather different varieties of colors and shapes of leaves. Make a fall wreath for the front door
from the materials gathered from the yard. Using a straw base, either recycled or from the dollar

The speech What to a Slave is the Fourth of July? was spoken, by Frederick Douglas, to the supporters
and abolitionists at the Rochester Ladies Anti Slavery Society of Fourth of July. In his speech
Frederick Douglas speaks heavily on the subject of abolitioning slavery. Frederick Douglas provides
comparisons and analogies, appeals to the audience s logic, and appeals to the audience s emotion in
order to convince the audience to more vigorously fight for the abolition of slavery. Douglas provides
comparisons between the founding fathers and the abolition movement. He does this by using
antithesis when he brings up that To side with the right, against the wrong, with the weak against the
strong, and with the oppressed against the oppressor! is what the founding fathers had to do in order to
fight against the oppression of Britain. Frederick Douglas use of antithesis explains to the audience
that the abolitionist movement may be fighting the losing side, but they are fighting for the good of the
country. The abolitionists and its supporters are led to believe that the founding fathers faced the same
odds and situation. The audience likely feels inspired to fight more vigorously for the oppressed due to
the fact that they admire the founding fathers greatly. Frederick Douglas again supports this
comparison through the use of asyndeton. When Douglas says the founding fathers fought the
oppression of Britain by Fully appreciating the hardship to be encountered,

International Law as Law Essay
International Law as Law
When comparing apples to pears, one is not making a fair comparison, but a disproportionate
comparison. Often times when international law is discussed or attempts are made to understand
international law; many often attempt to compare international law with existing laws such as national
law or domestic law. Making such disproportionate comparisons leads to many misconceived notions
and attitudes toward international law. For an adequate comparison of international law to other laws,
one should look closely at the available facts. This essay will demonstrate the vitality of international
law, in a world of nations which continue to increase in interdependence. Unlike municipal law,
international law is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking this into consideration, dealing with external activities of a state, international law has
extensive latitude. In Article 38 (1) of the Statue of the International Court of Justice, the following
sources of international law are acknowledged: (a) international conventions, whether general or
particular, establishing rules expressly recognized by the contesting States; (b) international custom, as
evidence of a general practice accepted as law; (c) the general principles of law recognized by
civilized nations; (d) ... judicial decisions and the teachings of the most highly qualified publicists of

by consenting states are referred to as treaties and/or conventions. Treaties are codified agreements
established by consenting states as means of resolving a dispute or to recognize mutual interests. Since
treaties are codified, they are favored over customary law; therefore, becoming a vital part of building

Systems in place to monitor and regulate filling of tank 912:
Equipment:
The tank had two forms of level control: an automatic tank gauge (ATG) that enabled the employees
to monitor the filling operation; and an independent high level switch (IHLS) which was meant to
close down operations automatically if the tank was overfilled. TAV Engineering Ltd supplied the
IHLS to Motherwell Control Systems Ltd who installed the switch and preformed routine maintenance
but both parties fell short of what was expected for such a high hazard environment and did not

Failure of design:
Having failed to contain the product within the storage tanks, there was reliance on a bund retaining
wall around the tank (secondary containment) and a system of drains and catchment areas (tertiary
containment) to ensure that any liquids did not find their way into the environment. Both forms of
containment failed. Pollutants from fuel and firefighting liquids leaked from the bund, flowed off site
and entered the groundwater. These containment systems were inadequately designed and maintained.

Narrative Essay About A Birthday
On a beautiful day in November it started off like any other day in our life. We had such a special
occasion to attend that evening at the local park to come together and celebrate our nephew Andy s
birthday. We all arrive and set up the event and get all the balloons and decorations up and ready for
Andy to arrive. We all sat around and waited in suspense for him to arrive. Andy finally arrived and
was so surprised that everyone came to celebrate his day with him. His smile lit up from ear to ear and
the joy radiated from his body. He jumped up and down and hugged all of us one by one. He could not
believe that we were able to set this up without him knowing or finding out any detail about this
surprise. While all the family is sitting together I begin to start having some slight pain but every part
of me was saying Just get through this party so you do not take the thunder away from Andy. The pain
lingered on and off and I began to count the minutes until it was time to leave. Trying to get the pain
to subside without being noticed, I started to sit and then walk around hoping the pain would just stop.
After about three hours the party finally comes to an end and I was overcome with so much relief. I
began to whisper to my husband bobby, I think I might be in labor but do not freak out. As the words
slip out I was so worried what he was going to say and just started at him. Bobby began to say with a
muffled and breaking tone, We need to get you to the

Purifying A Compound Of Benzoic Acid
Introduction
The purpose of this lab was to purify a compound of benzoic acid through the process of
recrystallization. This was done in a couple steps, first dissolved the product to be recrystallized in hot
solvent then filtered off impurities, then filtered to isolate the crystals from the recrystallizing solvent
[1]. For this method to work there were many different theories that play a role, one of the theories is
solubility. Solubility is a chemical property that a solute is able to dissolve in a solvent [2]. This plays
a huge role in the experiment as the first step was to dissolve the crude benzoic acid in water.
Solubility was important because if the crude benzoic acid did not dissolve within the solvent then the
impurities would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first step the benzoic acid had to be dissolved in the solvent, water, so that the impurities can
separate from the benzoic acid. Next, the solution was cooled slightly to add decolorizing charcoal in
order to remove the impurities. Then, the solution was heated up again for 20 minutes. Then, the
solution was filtered so the charcoal wouldn t be in the final product. Finally, when filtering with the
Buchner funnel the water was cooled this was used to prevent the benzoic acid from dissolving in the
water and being flushed away with the rest of the water.
The melting point of benzoic acid is 122.35 °C [5]. The melting point determined from the experiment
is a range from 118°C 120°C. The reason for the experiment producing a melting range compared to a
melting point is due to impurities as well for the reason of a lower melting point [1]. Impurities within
the product lowers the melting point due to intermolecular forces, this causes benzoic acid to not have
as strong of a bond together in its crystal structure as there are impurities in the way. This allows a
lower level of heat to melt the benzoic

Chinese Immigration Essay example
In many aspects, the motivations for the Chinese to come to the United States were similar to those of
most immigrants. Some came to The Gold Mountain, and others came to the United States to seek
better economic opportunity. Yet there were others that were compelled to leave China either as
contract laborers or refugees. The Chinese brought with them their language, culture, social
institutions, and customs. Over time they made lasting contributions to their adopted country and
became a vital part of the United States population (Immigration Station).
Upon hearing the word of gold in California, thousands of Chinese, mostly young male peasants, left
their villages in the rural countries to become rich in the American West. Few actually ... Show more

Others such as peasants and workers were not allowed to enter due to the Chinese Exclusion Act of
1882. This Act set a precedent by being the first law to ban a specific group from the country. It
included many rules and regulations, including a ban on Chinese laborers entering the country, and
punishment for anyone who tried to sneak or transport Chinese into the country. It was impossible to
absolutely prevent Chinese immigration from occurring, but America tried its best to limit the number
that entered. The shared opinion of many in the United States during this time felt that the Chinese
were inferior, for they did not realize the bigger picture and the actual effect that Chinese would have
on the United States. The American and the Chinese governments agreed that the immigrants were
endangering the government and economy of China. This led them to limit, regulate, or suspend the
residency of Chinese in the United States (Archives 2). The only people they could not keep out were
the Chinese who already had family in the United States.
Many believed the reason the American government decided to adopt this act in the first place, was
due to hatred towards Chinese. Governor Greg Bilger of California wrote,We don’t like these
contract “coolie laborers, avaricious, ignorant of moral obligations, incapable of being
assimilated, and dangerous to the public welfare living in the same area as us (Norton 3). He used

Gifted Hands: a Benson Carson Story By: Julia Murtha
While reading this enchanting book, I have realized that I should not let the little things in my life be
taken for granted. Ben Carson had a rough child hood, but he was a good kid. As a child he wasn t the
brightest or the richest, but he was a well mannered child. He was teased a lot during his elementary
school years, just because he was not the brightest student in his class. He was tired of the constant
bullying of his fellow students so, he began to read books. He just kept reading and reading, and the
things he read just stuck to him. He became the brightest student in middle school, from the dumbest

would always tease me and call me stupid; and I was tired of it. In middle school I bean studying and
reading much more. I started to figure out that everything I would read, the knowledge from it would
stay in my brain. On my free time if I wasn t reading I would be praying. I starting reading every day
and from that, I became the top student of my class. My mother was very proud of me knowing I was
once at the bottom of my class and now; I have reached the top. I was able to get into a good high
school. Of course at my new school, I was an outcast; not only because I am black but also the way I
dressed and for my intelligence. Every day in my first year in high school I had begged my mother for
new clothes that would help me fit in, and her response was always a no. Around the same time, I
started to realize I had anger problems. One day while I was still worried about fitting in, my mom
bought me a new pair of pants. I looked at her if she was nuts, I wouldn t wear them for nothing. They
were not what I had asked for. I

The film was The Duke Is Tops, released in July 1938. Later in the year, Horne was asked to take on a

First Vatican Council Research Paper
Pope Pius IX called the First Vatican Council in 1868. It was the Roman Catholic Church s twentieth
ecumenical council. It was held in the Vatican City. The purpose of this council was to attend to issues
such as secularism, rationalism, and materialism. This council explored the principle of papal
infallibility as well.
The political environment surrounding The First Vatican Council was chaotic, due to the unification of
Italy and Franco Prussian War. Led by the kingdom of Prussia, the Franco Prussian War was a conflict,
between the Second French Empire and Prussia which had supremacy over much of Germany. French
troops abandoned their defence of the Papal States after suffering a heavy loss to the Prussians. Italian
patriots were then able to seize the Papal States and Rome and unify all of Italy. Pope Pius IX then lost
all his global authority, disband the council, and locked himself in the walls of the Vatican. ... Show

Reasons To Avoid Probate
There are many reasons to avoid probate. Firstly, probate can be a lengthy process that ties up assets
and depreciates the estate s overall value. Most estates require the services of a lawyer or estate
planning service to comply with probate laws. It is relatively easy to avoid probate, or at least keep the
majority of assets from having to pass through the process. Different strategies exist and depend on
the types of assets owned. It is advisable to work with an estate planning expert to determine which
options are best for your situation. The most ironclad way to keep assets out of probate is to draft an
irrevocable life insurance trust or living trust. When assets are transferred to a trust they are no longer

This can be as simple as purchasing pre formatted Wills at an office supply store or downloading
forms from the Internet. Although a Will does not keep assets out of probate, it can expedite the
process. If you can afford to do so, it is best to have an attorney draft the Will. Most attorneys charge a
nominal fee to draft legal documents. Many lawyers offer additional services such as assisting the
designated estate executor in their duties of administering your estate once you are gone. If you do not
execute a Will, everything you own will be transferred to probate court and sit there for months on
end. Your family will not be able to receive inheritance property and your estate must continue making
payments on outstanding debts or mortgaged real estate. Realize your loved ones will be grieving.
Dying without a Will in place only adds more stress and anxiety during a highly charged emotional
event. If you have a checking or savings accounts, go to the bank and ask the teller for Payable on
Death form. In less than 5 minutes, you can designate beneficiaries and the percentage of funds to
bequeath them. For instance, if you have three children and want the monies distributed evenly,

Social Philosophy Of Immigration And Organized Crime
Various immigrants migrated to the United States. Many struggled to find jobs once in America. Why?
Because whether they be Catholic or immigrants they suffered racism from whites. As a result, they
couldn t acquire any jobs to sustain their families. This led them to get involved in illegal crimes
(organized crime). Many of these immigrants has a social philosophy that contributed to the rise of
organized crime. This paper will analyze the social philosophy of immigrants and how it contributed
to organized crime. As Lyman and Potter describe in the text, immigrants used organized crime to
attain wealth and stature in their new county (Lyman Potter, 2014). Their business motto was to make

Play Analysis – Sure Thing by David Ivis Essay example
Play Analysis Sure Thing by David Ivis
The Setting of Sure Thing by David Ivis is important in terms of setting the mood as well as the
context for the play s main conflict. Sure Thing is set in a café where the the two main characters, Bill
and Betty, awkwardly encounter one another. During their encounter, a ring of a bell continues to
disrupt their connection. Despite the ringing bell, or because of the ringing bell, the two characters are
able to establish a connection. The fact that they are ultimately able to establish a connection suggests
many thing about relationships, such as that timing can play a major role in either beginning or not

Truly, there is no protagonist or antagonist in this play insofar as either Bill or Betty being able to be
considered one or the other. The play begins with Bill walking up to Betty and asking if the chair next
to her is taken. She replies that the chair is taken. However, the bell immediately rings and Bill
restates the question. This time, Betty says that it is not taken, but that she is expecting someone.
Again, the bell rings, and Bill asks if the chair is taken again. This process continues, indicating a
change in circumstances each time the bell rings, until Bill is able to take a seat next to Betty. What
the bell does is it allows the circumstances to change. The bell also allows the conditions that might
negatively affect one entering a relationship with another to be changed to accommodate the budding
relationship. This process continues throughout the entire play until the main differences between the
two (differences that would have prevented a significant connection) are entirely erased and reversed.
After beginning one way, repairing the situation, and starting over, the two realize that they are perfect
companions, and agree to fall in love.
It is difficult to isolate the play s conflict to anything other than on a thematic level. Every time a
conflict has a potential of presenting itself, the fantasy element

The Key Objective Of A Great Facilitator
The main objective of a great facilitator is to development a team that is cohesive and cooperative,
producing results that make the group the most effective and efficient unit possible. However, this is
not always the case. Building a team that flourishes in any situation can be a daunting endeavor. Many
individuals unknowingly lack the skills necessary to be a great facilitator. Roger Schwarz (2002), has
created nine ground rules for honing a more effective group. When these nine ground rules are applied
and executed by a team, any facilitator will be able to produce a more effective and efficient group.
Furthermore, by becoming familiar with the ground rules, you can watch a group and identify
specifically what is happening that is enhancing or hindering the group s process (Schwarz, 2002 p.
96). Schwarz s (2002), nine ground rules are as followed respectively, test assumptions and inferences,
share all relevant information, use specific examples and agree on what important words mean,
explain your reasoning and intent, focus on interests, not positions, combine advocacy and inquiry,
jointly design next steps and ways to test disagreements, discuss undiscussable issues, and us a
decision making rule that generates the level of commitment needed (p. 97).
Purpose and Nature of Group
For a group to optimize its effectiveness, the formal leader cannot perform all of the leadership

  • 2. Improving The Performance Of Rapid Re Housing Programs And... Alternative 3 Home to Stay One way D.C. can enhance the performance of Rapid Re Housing programs and lower the rate of individuals/families returning back to homelessness is to emulate the model that NYC has been following for the past few years. A few years ago NYC launched the Home to Stay program (Bornstein, 2014). Home to Stay is a partnership between New York s Department of Homeless Services and four other organizations committed to fighting homelessness (Bornstein, 2014). Home to Stay uses an evidence based protocol known as Family Critical Time Intervention which is intended to motivate individuals and heads of families over nine months to take an advantage of support services, such as addiction and mental health counseling, conflict mediation, and improvement of job prospects (Bornstein, 2014). The program follows an extensive and rigorous screening procedure in order identify and select the most vulnerable and needy homeless individuals and families who must have access to the supportive services the program provides (Bornstein, 2014). Though Home to Stay does not target the homelessness population as a whole, program expansion is a future possibility. While there is no concrete data that measures the performance of Home to Stay, testimonies from individuals and families that participated in the program indicate that there is a promising future (Bornstein, 2014). Individuals and families that were previously homeless believe that Home to Stay is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Catcher In The Rye Analysis The Catcher in the Rye is a novel written by J.D. Salinger that occurs around the 1950s. The story s protagonist and narrator is Holden Caulfield, a seventeen year old white male, who journeys to various places as he mourns over the death of his little brother, Allie. As a white male in a capitalist society, he has tremendous amounts of privileges that allow him to get. However, as the novel progresses, Holden describes his society as a place where honored human qualities are suppressed and capitalist ideals are embraced. Throughout the novel, we see that capitalism, the social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned , destroys the overall society for Holden and his generation (Rand). We can see Holden s critiques of capitalism in chapter 17, when he and Sally, a compelling young lady that Holden has known for quite a long time, are at the ice skating rink and they discuss their views on school. Holden views school as a feeding ground for empty headed students to consume the ideals of. Holden explains, You ought to go to a boys school sometime...It s full of phonies, and all you do is study... to be smart enough to be able to buy a goddam Cadillac (Salinger 131). In making this argument, Salinger urges us to see Holden s negative perspective on capitalism. Holden believes that schools have a direct connection to capitalism because the teachings associate education with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Male Genital Mutilation Essay Male Genital Mutilation Female genital mutilation in foreign countries is a hot topic that many people stand up against. It is frowned upon by western civilization and there are entire organizations coming to the rescue of female genital mutilation victims, yet very few stand up against male circumcision. If female genital mutilation is illegal, why isn t male genital mutilation? Circumcision is a procedure done primarily on infant males, in which the foreskin is surgically separated from the glans and cut off. It started out as a religious procedure but was eventually adopted by medical personnel and preformed regularly on male infants in the US. The removing of the foreskin is painful, can cause severe damage, bleeding, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this logic, as the years go on male genital mutilation would eventually be performed on nearly all babies in the US. I was given no additional information as to why it should be done, no pros and cons, and no medical proof to back up her reasoning for why I should have my infant circumcised. My experience with this nurse spiked my curiosity; I was appalled that doctors and nurses just assumed I would blindly let them permanently take off a part of my child s genitals, acting as if it was routine like the cutting of a baby s umbilical ... • 6. The Effects Of Elevated Carbon Dioxide ( Co2 ) Essay 2. Impact of Elevated Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a trace gas accounting for about 0.039 per cent or 390 ppm currently. CO2 concentration increases by 1 to 3 ppm every year primarily because of burning of fossil fuels. In future, by 2100 the atmospheric CO2 concentration should reach 600 to 750 ppm. Plants are directly influenced by increase in CO2 concentration; and increase in CO2 affects many physiological processes like photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, reproductive processes, and yield. CO2 diffuses from the atmosphere into leaves, via., stomata into mesophyll cells, intercellular spaces, cells, and finally reach chloroplast for photosynthetic process. Increasing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere will enhance the photosynthesis and dry matter production. The response to CO2 varies among species mainly by the enzyme RuBisCo (RuBP). C3 plants readily react by increasing the activity of RuBP carboxylase and by reducing the activity of RuBP oxygenase. Increase in photosynthesis by 25% 75% was observed over doubling of atmospheric CO2. C4 plants show little response to elevated CO2. Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plants also showed an increase in photosynthetic rate. The increasing concentration of CO2 by burning of fossil fuels can be reduced by improving the carbon fixation in the plants. Short term exposure of CO2 on plants shows increased photosynthesis, whereas long term exposure shows variation in photosynthesis and also plant growth. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Southern Appalachian Culture When one thinks of the Appalachians, one generally thinks of the mountains of the southeastern region of the United States. However the Mountain range itself actually begins in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, extending from there for almost 2,000 miles (3,200 km) to central Alabama in the United States. Thus the region also forms the eastern counterpart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Southern Appalachia alone includes three hundred counties covering most of West Virginia and the Southern Highlands or Upland South. The mountains form a natural barrier between the eastern Coastal Plain and the vast Interior Lowlands of North America. As a result, they have played a vital role in the settlement and development of the entire continent. Despite the vast geographical distance, the peoples of the Appalachians (state side) maintain a unified identity through shared cultural identities; dialect, building practices, folk music and dance, crafts, superstitions and religion, and moonshine unite all 1500 miles of these mountains. The inhabitants of this region largely descended from English and Scottish Irish folk traditions, brought to the region by colonial immigrants. There were also smaller influences from other ... • 8. Star Spangled Banner And Star Spangled Banner, By... Bloodshed and the tyranny of battle has inspired art since the beginning of recorded history. In essence though, the main purpose of war is to protect or enhance the liberties of the people and their families fighting. Due to the complex and utter horrific experiences that happen during battle, naturally people want to dedicate a long standing piece of work to honor those who have endured those traumatic experiences for the greater good. Two examples of art being centered around war are the Star Spangled Banner, by Francis Scott Key, and a sculpture entitled The Fountain of Eternal Life, by Marshall Fredericks. When these two works are broken down into their key elements it is apparent that there are key similarities between the images these works create, and the reasons they were created; in addition to their connection to civil liberties. One must consider the differences between the works as well, such as the mediums in which they were created, the theme of the works, and what they were dedicated to. To be concise, both Key and Fredericks created two extremely different works of art that have overlapping ideals, and have a strong connection to civil liberties. Civil liberties are the basic human rights guaranteed to every person. Those rights include ideas like the freedom of speech, press, and assembly, freedom of religion, and the open pursuit of happiness. A more personal definition of civil liberties is the ability to be able to live whatever life one wants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also could mean someone wants to stray themselves away from the crowd because they want to be alone, that being said, everyone needs those silent moments to have for themselves. However, whichever situation it may be people still feel that loneliness every once in a while, and that s what this poem is relaying. This last poem was first published in 95 poems , it s called Maggie and Milly and Moly and May . Since all of their names start with M, it could be a symbol for an aspect of me (Poetry For student s vol.12). This is another poem representing an experiment with rhymed couplets. This poem is written in the tone and style of a nursery rhyme. Nursery rhymes do not all share a single poetic form, but they are usually marked by their use of end line rhyme. Most likely the four children represent four young girls. This poem depicts children at play. It describes four children who have gone to the beach to play and describes what each child finds in the process. Maggie a shell, Milly a starfish, Molly a horrible thing , and May a smooth round stone (Poetry For students vol.12). Each item is symbolic, because each child is finding something of themselves. • 10. Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations Essay The pivotal second chapter of Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations, quot;Of the Principle which gives occasion to the Division of Labour, quot; opens with the oft cited claim that the foundation of modern political economy is the human quot;propensity to truck, barter, and exchange one thing for another. quot;1 This formulation plays both an analytical and normative role. It offers an anthropological microfoundation for Smith s understanding of how modern commercial societies function as social organizations, which, in turn, provide a venue for the expression and operation of these human proclivities. Together with the equally famous concept of the invisible hand, this sentence defines the central axis of a new science of political economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, with this emphasis on spontaneous coordination, Smith pointed to the possibility of a social order in which people live in harmony together with a minimum need of a central, coercive apparatus. He captured the central intuition of classical economists according to which modern commercial society, notwithstanding its conflicts, obeys a kind of pre established order, and enjoys the advantage of a mechanism, the market, which maintains equilibria by continually adjusting competing interests. Over time, this powerful theoretical proposition has become a legitimating cornerstone for the robust defense of market capitalism, a particular ensemble of political institutions, and a specific line of justification for liberal ideas and values. Though manifestly plausible as an accurate reading of Smith when Wealth of Nations is read on its own, even on these terms, this interpretation, is limited and partial. Astonishingly, and disappointingly, most readers of Wealth of Nations fail to attend the very next sentence that follows Smith s seemingly transhistorical, objectivist theory of human dispositions, mindful of Mandeville s classical representation of human egoism. Smith immediately probed more deeply by asking quot;Whether this propensity be one of those original principles in human nature of which no further account can be given; or whether, as ... In accordance with The Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW) the Best Practice Guidelines, I want to make direct contact with my population. Therefore, I would create flyers that accurately advertise and describe the group purpose in resource centers that cater to gay men. These issues and goals would be discussed with each potential member by each of the two counselors during an interview process in a private office. Consequently, the counselors would explain confidentiality and the group policies at this time. Because of the stigma around HIV/AIDS, the potential members would be asked if they are willing to sign a contract stating that they would not talk about other members outside of the group or identify other members as being part of the group to the public. Member selection would consist partly of the counselor s instinct of who would fit the dynamics needed to help the group grow and change. However, I want group members who want to feel better about their diagnosis and willing to work in and outside the group. Members who have come to the interview process prepared to talk about feelings and goals are highly considered (psychologically minded). Our group is looking for members who want a Positive Outlook about their diagnosis, while understanding that some may not be in the frame of mind to think positively yet. Difficult members will not automatically be dismissed because they may need the most help with coping with their disease. For this group, the potential member should be in one of the first three stages of change. Therefore, some of my questions would be to establish what stage of change the client is in and the commitment level to reaching change. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Louisa May Alcott Hospital Dress Character Analysis In a time when great uncertainty and chaos permeated throughout the United States, the Civil War necessitated the involvement of millions of Americans. Among those millions, women found themselves in conditions that had been previously unknown to them. Louisa May Alcott s Hospital Sketches, written in 1863, exemplifies a Northern woman s changing role in society as she enters the previously unchartered territory of war. New conditions aside, one cannot argue that the Civil War solved gender inequality in the United States. How, then, was the Civil War simultaneously a step forward and a step backward for Northern women? The Civil War indeed broadened the scope of a Northern woman s position in society militarily, professionally, and politically. However, as shown by Hospital Sketches protagonist, Tribulation Periwinkle s, position as an army nurse, those opportunities did not extend outside the domestic sphere to which women had been confined since the creation of the United States. First, the most obvious new condition that emerged during the Civil War was the acceptance of women becoming directly involved in the war effort. Such a novel concept to women was the opportunity to express the same sense of nationalism that men exhibited when going off to war. When Tribulation Periwinkle, a pseudonym for Louisa May Alcott in Hospital Sketches, decides to become an army nurse, she announces her new position with the same tone and vigor that a young soldier might utilize to ... A crisis in global energy consumption has been increasingly discussed in many world energy forums which concern in the diminishing of fossil fuel and natural gas. Consequently, the US government has attempted to seek a new resource to serve the global energy demand (SHAFIEE, 2009). The natural gas from shale formation, abundant resources in US, has been discovered for a long time but there is no efficient method to extract the natural gas from this formation. Moreover, the route to convey the large amount of shale gas is one of our challenge that must be safe for human and environment, and it should be a low cost technique as well (ARMOR, 2013). Furthermore, the impact of shale gas revolution should be realized in a consequence of local protesters at the drilling sites or people who are directly affected from the extraction projects. Therefore, the aims of this project are to describe the most feasible technique and the future prospects in natural gas from shale formation. Background and Significance In a few decades, global natural gas demand has still sharply grown up every year. The world s crude oil and natural gas reserves are usually the main resources for energy consumptions in our world. Consequently, the total amount of these reserves has been significantly regarded by the leading industrial countries (WANG, 2014). The Presumption of Innocence Down Under While the Australian legal system abides by the principle of the presumption of innocence, there are several ways in which courtrooms and their respective rituals, rules and characteristics, contradict the notion of judicial proceedings being in favour of the accused (CLRG, 1972; Mark, 1973). Indeed, Friedman and Percival (1976) have suggested that courts now embody efficient processing routine, as opposed to adjudication. Judicial proceedings can often be characterised by complex legal terminology that manipulates individuals and exerts power, spatial dominance achieved by furniture placement, and other rituals which often perpetuate (often unfounded) irrational fears held by both the accused persons and witnesses. The following observations were noted at the Downing Centre on the 21st of March, 2014 in court rooms 3.1, 5.1 and 5.3. Spatial Organisation As Carlen stated in his contribution to the British Journal of Criminology, spacing impacts heavily upon peoples ability to effectively participate in the rituals of court, as well as their ability to defend themselves. Furthermore, spacing maps out the specific rights and duties individuals have with regards to certain ritual occasions (1976:50). Elizabeth Cady Argument Analysis If Elizabeth Cady Stanton was alive today, she would be definitely pleased to see the advancements of women s rights, however, she would not be completely satisfied and probably disappointed to see that many of the issues she brought up during her time are still being dealt with today. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was highly critical of the sexual double standard and the lack of equal education for women. She believed that men should be placed at the same moral standard as women and that women should be given the same opportunity in education as men. Remarkably, women today have advanced far more in education than with the sexual double standard, however, the sexual double standard has come to collide with women s education. Therefore, men should be punished in the same way as women are to be punished. In addition to leveling the plane on morality, Stanton demands that women should have the right to be trailed by a jury of our own peers (DuBois 46). By allowing women to be part of the jury in criminal cases, specifically the cases involving women and sex, more men would be held responsible for their actions. In the case of Abson, the jury who found her guilty and let the black man go free was most likely a jury filled with men. Stanton would argue that she was unfairly tried because according to her, men fails to do justice to women in her best estate, and that she was not represented in the jury. In her 1854 address to the Legislature of NewYotk, Stanton points out how no rank of men have ever been satisfied with being tried by jurors higher or lower in the civil or political scale than themselves, that slaveholders cannot make laws and execute laws for slaves, nor can nobleman do the same for peasants, therefore she states that neither can man make and execute just laws for women (DuBois 46). • 22. The Speech By Frederick Douglas The speech What to a Slave is the Fourth of July? was spoken, by Frederick Douglas, to the supporters and abolitionists at the Rochester Ladies Anti Slavery Society of Fourth of July. In his speech Frederick Douglas speaks heavily on the subject of abolitioning slavery. Frederick Douglas provides comparisons and analogies, appeals to the audience s logic, and appeals to the audience s emotion in order to convince the audience to more vigorously fight for the abolition of slavery. Douglas provides comparisons between the founding fathers and the abolition movement. He does this by using antithesis when he brings up that To side with the right, against the wrong, with the weak against the strong, and with the oppressed against the oppressor! is what the founding fathers had to do in order to fight against the oppression of Britain. Frederick Douglas use of antithesis explains to the audience that the abolitionist movement may be fighting the losing side, but they are fighting for the good of the country. The abolitionists and its supporters are led to believe that the founding fathers faced the same odds and situation. The audience likely feels inspired to fight more vigorously for the oppressed due to the fact that they admire the founding fathers greatly. Frederick Douglas again supports this comparison through the use of asyndeton. This was done in a couple steps, first dissolved the product to be recrystallized in hot solvent then filtered off impurities, then filtered to isolate the crystals from the recrystallizing solvent [1]. For this method to work there were many different theories that play a role, one of the theories is solubility. Solubility is a chemical property that a solute is able to dissolve in a solvent [2]. This plays a huge role in the experiment as the first step was to dissolve the crude benzoic acid in water. Solubility was important because if the crude benzoic acid did not dissolve within the solvent then the impurities would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, the solution was cooled slightly to add decolorizing charcoal in order to remove the impurities. Then, the solution was heated up again for 20 minutes. Then, the solution was filtered so the charcoal wouldn t be in the final product. Finally, when filtering with the Buchner funnel the water was cooled this was used to prevent the benzoic acid from dissolving in the water and being flushed away with the rest of the water. The melting point of benzoic acid is 122.35 °C [5]. The melting point determined from the experiment is a range from 118°C 120°C. The reason for the experiment producing a melting range compared to a melting point is due to impurities as well for the reason of a lower melting point [1]. Impurities within the product lowers the melting point due to intermolecular forces, this causes benzoic acid to not have as strong of a bond together in its crystal structure as there are impurities in the way. It included many rules and regulations, including a ban on Chinese laborers entering the country, and punishment for anyone who tried to sneak or transport Chinese into the country. It was impossible to absolutely prevent Chinese immigration from occurring, but America tried its best to limit the number that entered. The shared opinion of many in the United States during this time felt that the Chinese were inferior, for they did not realize the bigger picture and the actual effect that Chinese would have on the United States. The play begins with Bill walking up to Betty and asking if the chair next to her is taken. She replies that the chair is taken. However, the bell immediately rings and Bill restates the question. This time, Betty says that it is not taken, but that she is expecting someone. Again, the bell rings, and Bill asks if the chair is taken again. This process continues, indicating a change in circumstances each time the bell rings, until Bill is able to take a seat next to Betty. What the bell does is it allows the circumstances to change. The bell also allows the conditions that might negatively affect one entering a relationship with another to be changed to accommodate the budding relationship. After beginning one way, repairing the situation, and starting over, the two realize that they are perfect companions, and agree to fall in love. It is difficult to isolate the play s conflict to anything other than on a thematic level. Every time a conflict has a potential of presenting itself, the fantasy element ... • 37. The Key Objective Of A Great Facilitator The main objective of a great facilitator is to development a team that is cohesive and cooperative, producing results that make the group the most effective and efficient unit possible. However, this is not always the case. Building a team that flourishes in any situation can be a daunting endeavor. Many individuals unknowingly lack the skills necessary to be a great facilitator. Roger Schwarz (2002), has created nine ground rules for honing a more effective group. When these nine ground rules are applied and executed by a team, any facilitator will be able to produce a more effective and efficient group. Furthermore, by becoming familiar with the ground rules, you can watch a group and identify specifically what is happening that is enhancing or hindering the group s process (Schwarz, 2002 p. 96). Schwarz s (2002), nine ground rules are as followed respectively, test assumptions and inferences, share all relevant information, use specific examples and agree on what important words mean, explain your reasoning and intent, focus on interests, not positions, combine advocacy and inquiry, jointly design next steps and ways to test disagreements, discuss undiscussable issues, and us a decision making rule that generates the level of commitment needed (p. 97). Purpose and Nature of Group For a group to optimize its effectiveness, the formal leader cannot perform all of the leadership functions in all circumstances at all times, and all group members must assist each ...
