2. About the course
This course is an introduction to the large and varied practice
of graphic design, it breaks graphic design down into four
areas in order to examine them closely: image making,
typography, shape/color and composition.
The course is designed to be hands-on. The best way to learn
about graphic design is to make graphic design, and practice
is the best way to develop your skills.

4. Objectives of the course
A beginner's level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
programs, such as Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign will
really help you, especially if you want to complete the
optional briefs.
You'll need some analogue art materials for making images as
well. These can be anything you already own—any old art
materials you have lying around.
5. Week 1: Fundamentals of Image-making
This week we look at how images function in terms of
conveying denotative and connotative messages.
