2. Introduction
• Several times in the BIBLE it refers to some people as
CHILDREN of BELIAL, which by implication means
WICKED or WORTHLESS people. The name
“BELIAL” has been replaced in some of the newer
translations of Bibles with descriptive words which the
translators thought would be better understood. The
descriptive words used were CORRUPT, scoundrels,
WORTHLESS, rebels, ROGUE, bloodthirsty,
WICKED, and perverted. These are all fruits of people
who have a SPIRIT of BELIAL attached to them or in
them. The expression “SON” or “MAN of BELIAL”
must be understood as meaning simply a
WORTHLESS, LAWLESS person (Deuteronomy
13:13; Judges 19:22; 20:13).

3. Introduction
• The LORD calls those who operate through this
SPIRIT, “EVIL and DESTRUCTIVE”. People who
consult them open themselves up to DEMONIC
infestation and SATANIC control. The word “BELIAL”
(beliyaal) means “WICKED, naughty, UNGODLY,
without profit, WORTHLESS, destruction,
VALUELESS, useless, contemptible, DESPICABLE,
obnoxious as to rouse moral indignation”. So, the
SPIRIT of BELIAL causes men to commit SINS that
are so vile and contemptible that it ROUSES MORAL
INDIGNATION. This will bring the CURSE and the
JUDGMENT of GOD. Let’s expose the SPIRIT of
BELIAL and be DELIVERED from this WORTHLESS
SPIRIT.

5. The Origin of Belial
• BELIAL is SECOND in COMMAND in the
Kingdom of Darkness. Directly under Lucifer-
satan the devil, BELIAL rules and directs the
EVIL SPIRITS of darkness. His ORIGIN is an
interesting story, and to know it will HELP us in
our BATTLE against his forces and our
DELIVERANCE from his influence. In the book
of Genesis, and in other books, as Enoch, we
see a story told of the FALL of some EVIL
ANGELS (Genesis 6:1-2,4). Some believe
these ANGELS cohabited with mankind and
produced a race of GIANTS, which were half-
angelic, and half human. The word “GIANTS”
(nephiyl) means “TYRANTS, fellers, BULLY,
attackers”.

• H.C. Leupold says the word “GIANTS” is based
upon the Hebrew root “naphal”, meaning to
“FALL UPON and ATTACK”. It refers both to
the STRONG of the earth such as the
LEADERS and the POWERFUL, and to the
ATTACKERS, robbers, and bandits of the earth
(H.C. Leupold. Genesis, Vol.1, p.258). The
EARTH was FILLED with VIOLENCE,
lawlessness, SEXUAL IMMORALITY, and
uncontrolled desires and pleasures (vv. 5-7).
What caused such CHAOS? It was the result
and INFLUENCE of these FALLEN evil
SPIRITS.

7. The Origin of Belial
• 2 Peter 2:4-9 and Jude 6-10 reveal some
information about the JUDGMENT and
DESTINY of these EVIL ANGELS. Note these
ANGELS “left their first estate” and are
“reserved in chains of darkness” until the Day
of JUDGMENT. It means these EVIL SPIRITS
were SEALED because of their SINS and
DESTINED for the JUDGMENT of GOD.
Nevertheless, their INFLUENCE continued to
PERSUADE and ROUSE MORAL
INDIGNATION. This is seen in the LIFE and
PERSON of NIMROD (Genesis 10:7-9). Note
in the “sons of Cush”, there are five listed…and
then it says that “Cush begat Nimrod” (v. 8).

8. The Origin of Belial
• The Hebrew word for “BEGAT” (yalad) means
“DELIVER”. As a midwife would deliver a child
without being the conceiver of such child, so
Cush delivered this child from his wife. This
was a different wife than the mother of Cush’s
other sons. It was Rhea (Damkina), that he
took to wife in his old age. The Scripture is
trying to make this clear, but English
translations lose much of the meaning.
NIMROD ruled the earth for 185 years (Jasher
27:16; Joshua 10:13; 2 Samuel 1:18). He
established his kingdom “in the land of Shinar”;
that is BABYLON.

• The Babylonians called him “Bel-Merodach”
and “Marduk”; however, in Hebrew, he was
known as NIMROD. After the death of
NIMROD, the SPIRIT that INFLUENCED him
reinhabited other beings to DECEIVE, to
RULE, to ROUSE MORAL INDIGNATION, and
to seek worship down through the ages. It is
called “the king of Babylon” (Isaiah 14:4) and is
connected with the “mystery Babylon” of
Revelation 17:3-5. Note NIMROD was the
original king of Babylon, and this SPIRIT
inhabited him as well as all that pursue his
attributes.

• In Revelation 17:3, we see “a scarlet
covered beast”. This BEAST is BELIAL. He
is the “beast out of the abyss” referred to by
John in the Revelation. He is an EVIL
SPIRIT, who embodies WORLD LEADERS
in order to RULE or have DOMINION over
mankind. He is often PERSONIFIED as
ANTICHRIST. It is the BELIAL SPIRIT that
leads the kings of the earth to “make war
with the Lamb” (vv. 7-14). The word
“BELIAL” (beliyaal- worthless, ungodly,
wicked) comes from the words “beliy” and
“ya‘al”, meaning “a being of no ascent or
resurrection”.

• Although, he ASCENDS from the
BOTTOMLESS PIT (v. 8), he is SEALED
for DESTRUCTION (apoleia- damnation,
ruin) (v. 8); therefore, he shall NOT
ASCEND or RESURRECT; meaning, he
shall NOT be FORGIVEN. This EVIL
SPIRIT of the ABYSS is the “gift of the
abyss”; hence, he is called “Metanbuchus”
(mattan bukah- gift of the abyss).

• Revelation 17:11 tells of different
kingdoms, five came before John’s day-
Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia,
and Greece. The sixth kingdom was the
Roman kingdom which existed in John’s
day. The seventh kingdom is the revision
of the old Roman kingdom. The eighth
kingdom is the ANTICHRISTAL
KINGDOM over which BELIAL will rule.
This THREEFOLD ATTEMPT of the
DEVIL is the KEY to understanding the
666 number (Revelation 13:16-18).

• Apocalypse of Isaiah 10:2 says, “Belial, the evil
demon who rules this age since its inception as
the king of demons, will come from his place
(the abyss) and inhabit the likeness of man,
and dwell in a lawless king”. 2 Thessalonians
2:3 speaks of the “man of lawlessness” and “he
that opposes and exalts himself against all that
is called God…” This means that “man of
lawlessness” (Antichrist) is possessed by
BELIAL. He is an OPPONENT of JESUS Christ
and has shown great ANTAGONISM against
Christ and His Church throughout history.
“What accord has Christ with Belial?” (2
Corinthians 6:15)

• The Apocalypse of Daniel 5:10-11 states,
“…there shall rise unto you from the tribe of
Judah and of Levi, the salvation (yahsha) of
the LORD, and He (JESUS) shall make war
against Belial”. This BELIAL will be utterly
DEFEATED by JESUS Christ during
Armageddon (Revelation 19:19-20), and the
Millennial rule of JESUS will be void of this
BELIAL (Revelation 20:4-6). Yes, “The LORD
has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter
of rulers, that struck the peoples in wrath with
unceasing blows, that ruled the nations in
anger with unrelenting persecution. The whole
earth is at rest and quiet; they break forth into
singing” (Isaiah 14:5-7).

• The CHARACTERISTICS of BELIAL are
revealed in SCRIPTURE. In order to
receive DELIVERANCE from the SPIRIT of
BELIAL, you must KNOW his ORIGIN and
CHARACTERISTICS. Remember
KNOWLEDGE brings DELIVERANCE. In
order to DEFEAT the ACTIVITY of BELIAL,
you must EXPOSE his STRATEGY. Let’s
examine the CHARACTERISTICS and
ACTIVITY of BELIAL.

• BELIAL attempts to DRAW people AWAY from
worshipping the true God. Since DEMONS
operate in GROUPS, under BELIAL are EVIL
SPIRITS that SEDUCE people and DRAW them
AWAY from the LORD. “But the [Holy] Spirit
distinctly and expressly declares that in latter
times some will turn away from the faith, giving
attention to deluding and seducing spirits and
doctrines that demons teach…” (1 Timothy 4:1).
This is the work of BELIAL and seducing spirits.
To SEDUCE means to LEAD AWAY, to persuade
to disobedience or disloyalty, to LEAD ASTRAY
by persuasion or false promises, to attract, to
lure.

18. Characteristics and Activity of Belial
• BELIAL works with the SPIRIT OF JEZEBEL to
SEDUCE the servants of the LORD into
FORNICATION and IDOLATRY (Revelation
2:20). Jezebel is a seducing spirit and draws
people into whoredom and adultery, as well as,
false teachings. SPIRITS of WHOREDOM,
PROSTITUTION and DEBAUCHERY are all
works under the strongman BELIAL (2
Corinthians 6:15). Jezebel does not work alone.
BELIAL works with Jezebel to draw people into
abominable sins including SODOMY,
HOMOSEXUALITY, INCEST, RAPE, and
PERVERSION of all kinds.

• BELIAL works to SEAR the CONSCIENCE
of mankind (1 Timothy 4:2). This is Satan’s
standard operating procedure (2
Corinthians 11:13-15). He selects likely
representatives and renders their
CONSCIENCES beyond feeling (Ephesians
4:19), SEARED (kaustēriazō- to brand,
cauterize) as with a HOT IRON. In this
condition they are ready to do what SATAN
COMMANDS of them (1 Kings 21:9-10,13-
14).

20. Characteristics and Activity of Belial
• BELIAL causes men to live WITHOUT
CONSCIENCE (Genesis 6:5; Romans 1:19-32; 1
Timothy 4:2). To cauterize means to deaden. One
of the ways BELIAL is able to cause men to
commit VILE ACTS is by cauterizing the
conscience. Men without a conscience are
capable of committing any act WITHOUT feeling
REMORSE. When the conscience is seared,
men and women are opened to all kinds of
unclean spirits and capable of all kinds of
unclean acts. BELIAL cauterizes the conscience
to accept personal pleasure and satisfaction as
an acceptable lifestyle. There is almost no limit to
the depravity that men can exhibit when the
conscience has been seared.

21. Characteristics and Activity of Belial
• BELIAL operates with the SPIRITS of RAPE and
SEXUAL ABUSE. In Judges 19:22-25, the “SONS of
BELIAL” RAPED the concubine until the next morning.
The Berkeley translation says, “They raped her and
abused her…” This is one of the VILEST ACTS
recorded in the Word of God. As you continue to read
the chapter, you find that the concubine actually DIED
from this VILE ACT committed against her. She was
literally RAPED TO DEATH (vv. 26-28). The Word of
God calls this act “LEWDNESS” (Judges 20:6). The
word “LEWDNESS” (zimma) means “HEINOUS
CRIME, mischief, DEVIOUS, sexually unchaste,
OBSCENE ACT, licentious”. So, BELIAL causes men to
commit VILE and OBSCENE ACTS. We can conclude
that spirits of rape, incest, molestation, sexual abuse,
sexual impurity, uncleanness, filthiness, lasciviousness,
sodomy, lewdness, and obscenity are groups under the
RULE of BELIAL.

22. Characteristics and Activity of Belial
• The SPIRIT of BELIAL operates through ALCOHOL and
DRUNKENNESS (1 Samuel 1:13-16). Drunkenness is a
way to BREAK DOWN the MORALS and OPEN people
UP to LUST and PERVERSION. Proverbs 23:31-33
show the connection of the spirit of PERVERSION to
DRUNKENNESS. To pervert means to cause to TURN
ASIDE or AWAY FROM what is good or true or morally
right, to corrupt, to cause to turn aside from what is
generally done or accepted. The VILE ACTS of the
Canaanites was known as “sodomy”. Sodomites were
temple prostitutes that were a part of the worship of the
idol gods of fertility in Canaan, engaging in homosexual
acts, sex with animals (bestiality), or non-coital acts
(anal or oral copulation). Spirits of DRUNKENNESS and
PERVERSION- including homosexuality, lesbianism,
bestiality, anal sex, etc.- operate under the strongman
BELIAL.

23. Characteristics and Activity of Belial
• Another manifestation of BELIAL is to REJECT the LORD’S
ANOINTED (1 Samuel 10:26-27; 2 Samuel 20:1). This is a
SPIRIT of IRREVERENCE and DISRESPECT for the ONES
that are ANOINTED and SENT by the LORD God. BELIAL
hates the ANOINTED of the LORD. God’s anointed bring
deliverance to the people. The Young’s Literal translation of 2
Samuel 20:1 calls SHEBA “a MAN of WORTHLESSNESS”.
The Amplified version calls him “base and contemptible
fellow”. Those controlled by BELIAL will despise the LORD’S
anointed. To despise means to look down on with contempt
or aversion, to regard as negligible, WORTHLESS, or
distasteful. This was the attitude of those controlled by
BELIAL toward David, the LORD’S anointed. BELIAL will
cause individuals to not support men and women sent by the
LORD (1 Samuel 10:27). They will withhold their financial
support. It is important to honor and respect those who are
called and sent by the LORD (1 Timothy 5:17; Hebrews
13:17).

27. Conclusion
• 2 Corinthians 6:15 states, “What accord has Christ with
Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an
unbeliever?” Righteousness has no fellowship with
lawlessness. Light has no communion with darkness. Christ
has no accord with Belial. The word translated “ACCORD”
(symphonesis) comes our English word SYMPHONY. The
basic meaning of the word is “HARMONY” or “AGREEMENT
of SOUND”. There is no harmony or agreement of sound
between CHRIST and BELIAL. Believers are to maintain a
position of spiritual separation from those who are aligned
with and in ACCORD with BELIAL (2 Corinthians 6:17; 1
Peter 1:13-16). DELIVERANCE from BELIAL, and those
under his command, require DISANNULLING the
COVENANT, REPENTANCE and RENUNCIATION of the
SPIRIT and WORK of BELIAL, declaration of the BLOOD of
JESUS, reaffirming your COVENANT with JESUS Christ, and
a determined and disciplined TRANSFORMED LIFE.
