So, one fine day, Pope Innocent VIII wished to expel the Jews from
Venice. But the canny Venetians, who were never slavish followers
of Rome, knew "their Jews" were valuable, particularly as the chief
source of financial credit in an age of trade and hence abruptly
removed them to one of the lagoon city's 117 islands, Canarregio,
and housed there under lock and key in 1516.
The fact that they were housed in a copper foundry, gave this area
what name, that would gain notoriety centuries later and is still a
dreaded term?

The “_____-_-____ men" were business and government executives who helped
the government mobilize and manage American industry during periods of
war. U.S. law forbids the government from accepting the services of unpaid
volunteers. Those employed by the government had to be paid a nominal

government.

34. This phrase was 1st brought to popular consciousness at a Conference of the
Women's Institute for Freedom of the Press led by Katherine Lawrence of Hewlett-
Packard. This was part of an ongoing discussion of a clash between written policy of
promotion versus action opportunities for women at HP. The term was coined by
Lawrence and HP manager Maryanne Schreiber.
The term was later used in March 1984 by Gay Bryant. In an Adweek article written
by Nora Frenkel, Bryant was reported as saying, "Women have reached a certain
point—I call it the ____ ______. They're in the top of middle management and they're
stopping and getting stuck. There isn't enough room for all those women at the top.
Some are going into business for themselves. Others are going out and raising
families.“

In 1887, a Russian war correspondent, Nicolas Notovitch claimed that while
at the Hemis Monastery in Ladakh, he had learned of a document, according
to which, X abandoned his hometown at the age of 13 and set out
towards Sind. He crossed Punjab and reached Puri Jagannath where he
studied the Vedas under Brahmin priests. He spent six years in Puri and
Rajgirh. Then he went to the Himalayas, and spent time in Tibetan
monasteries, studying Buddhism.
Notovitch's writings were immediately controversial and Max Müller stated
that either the monks at the monastery had deceived Notovitch (or played a
joke on him), or he had fabricated the evidence.Muller then wrote to the
monastery at Hemis and the head lama replied that there had been no
Western visitor at the monastery in the past fifteen years and there were no
documents related to Notovitch's story.
So, whose supposed visit to India was mentioned by Notovitch?

Randolph’s mother Mona was born in Delhi. He was born on 24th November
1941 in Chennai. His biological father was marine engineer Donald Scanland,

doctor in the service of the Red Cross when she met Johnny, who came from a
family of sports promoters in Liverpool who ran Liverpool Stadium. During
World War II, Johnny was a commissioned officer serving as a Physical
Training Instructor in India. They married on 7 March 1944 at St Thomas's
Cathedral, Bombay and Randolph too took Johnny’s surname. In 1945, the
family sailed for four weeks to Liverpool on the Georgic.
Despite having a superlative surname, Randolph did not prove prolific
enough for the entity he would be briefly associated with, in the years to
come.

He apparently told Jayalalithaa to keep a watch on her inner ring. He is
believed to have indicated to her that big investors were avoiding Tamil Nadu

to shift to another state because the Mannargudi mafia had sought a 15

The text touting began “Edna’s case was a really pathetic one. Like every
woman, her primary ambition was to marry. Most of the girls of her set were
married — or about to be. Yet no one possessed more grace or charm or
loveliness than she. And as her birthdays crept towards that tragic thirty-
