Sudeten mountain range. The Hasdingi were invited into Dacia by the Romans as allies during the Marcommanic Wars of 166-180 CE but, during and after the conflict, they seem to have caused more problems for Rome than provide assistance. The "difficult and scanty sources" Jacobsen writes about come into play here as, according to The History by Peter the Patrician, the Vandals were the allies of Marcus Aurelius while, according to Eutropius, they were his adversaries. The historian Cassius Dio reports that they were neither but were simply farmers and federates of Rome who, in 171 CE, were allowed to live in Dacia under the rule of their kings Raus and Raptus. While it therefore remains unclear exactly what their relationship with Rome was early on, they gradually engaged in hostilities with Rome.
They believe to be originated from Scandinavia and transferred to Silesia (Poland).

The Merovingian Dynasty was a Frankish lineage that had already been established by Childeric. In order to sustain the uniqueness of the Merovingians, the Franks came up with a fictional account about the origin of Childeric's lineage. This story began with a bull-like creature, which had mated in the sea waters with the wife of Clodio, a Frankish noble. The woman gave birth to Merovech, the semi-legendary founder of the Merovingian Dynasty, who was supposed to be the father of Childeric. As with the accounts of the Franks originating from Troy with King Priam as their ancestor, this story was created to provide a noble pedigree for Childeric in keeping with ancient pagan tales regarding the births of demi-gods.
after defeating the Alemanni around 496 CE, a victory that was attributed to God’s will. The exact date for this conversion is still a matter of debate, with some historians placing it as early as 486 CE. Clovis had good political reasons for this conversion; it would make the assimilation of the conquered Gallo-Romans much easier and, at the same time, he was looking to win the support of the Eastern Roman Empire.

Paul the Deacon writes that both sides appealed to their chief god, Odin, for victory: "At this point the men of old tell a silly story that the Vandals, coming to Godan (Odin) besought him for victory over the Winnili and that he answered that he would give the victory to those whom he saw first at sunrise" (9). Gambara of the Winnili then went to Freia, Odin's wife, and asked her to give victory to her sons in battle. Freia told Gambara that the women of the Winnili should "take down their hair and arrange it upon the face like a beard, and that in the early morning they should be present with their husbands and in like manner station themselves to be seen by Godan from the quarter in which he had been wont to look through his window toward the east" (9). The women arranged themselves in the ranks with their hair tied to look like beards and, the next morning, Odin looked out his window at sunrise and saw them standing ready in the field. He said, "Who are these long-beards?" And then Freia said how, since he had now given the tribe their name, he should also give them the victory, which he did; and so the Winnili became the "Longbeards" which, in time, became "Lombards". Paul then writes of this tale that "these things are worthy of laughter and are to be held of no account" and claims that the name "Langobards" comes from the length of the men's beards ("Long Beards") which they refuse to cut or trim. Most scholars believe their name derives from one of Odin's names, Langbaror, as the tribe had dedicated themselves to the worship of Odin at some point after leaving Scandinavia.
After defeating the Vandals, the Lombards found little food or resources in the region and, according to Paul, "suffered great privation from hunger" and "their minds
