PROCUREMENT METHODS:
There are different methods of procurement
that generally ranges from the international bidding to direct
contracting. They are used for different categories of procurement
methods depends on nature, amount and criteria.

9. ROLE OF PHARMACIST IN DRUG PROCUREMENT:
• By direct purchase from manufacturer and / or wholesaler
• By bid from either manufacturers or wholesalers
• By purchase from a local retail pharmacy
• By a contact purchase arrangement with manufacturer
• By a contact purchase through a hospital purchase cure an /
corporation
HOSPITAL PHARMACIST IN COLLABORATION WITH
PURCHASING AGENT ASSUME FOLLOWING DUTIES:
• Maintain a list of names, address and telephone numbers of drug
manufacturers, wholesalers and their representatives
• Prepare detailed specifications of drugs, chemicals and biological
• Prepare request for purchase forms
• Prepare receiving me o if drugs are received directly by pharmacy
• Prepare return memo, whenever applicable.

10. WAREHOUSING
DEFINITION:
A warehouse is a commercial building for storage of
goods. Warehouses are used by manufacturers, importers, exporters,
wholesalers, transport businesses, customs, etc. They are usually large
plain buildings in industrial areas of cities, towns and villages.

14. STORAGE AREA:
a) General Storage Requirement:
i) The area shall have 24 hours air-conditioning facilities.
ii) It shall have effective temperature control (between 160C to
250C).
and racks shall be provided.
b) Drug Store:
i) Adjustable, modular, heavy duty open racks shall be
provided for storage of packages of different sizes.
ii) Adequate, designated storage area for bulk items shall be
provided.
iv) Designated area for Cytotoxic Drugs shall be equipped with
cautionary signage and Chemo-Spill Kit.
c) Dangerous Drugs / Psychotropic Substances Store:
Dangerous Drugs / Psychotropic Substances shall
be kept under lock and key in special room / cabinet with alarm system.

15. d) Cold Room / Pharmaceutical Refrigerator / Freezer Bay:
This room / bay shall be provided within the drug store for
storage of drugs requiring low storage temperature, which includes
vaccines, antisera and other biological products.
e) Intravenous (IV) Fluid Store:
i) Sufficient space shall be made available to accommodate all
haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis solution and intravenous solutions.
ii) The space shall be sufficient for the utilisation of forklift.
f ) Surgical Store :
Adequate, designated storage area for bulk surgical / consumable /
disposable items/ x-ray films shall be provided.
g) Non-Drug Bulk Store:
i) Dispensing bottles, containers, labels and envelopes shall be kept in a
designated area.
