A woman was at the checkout lane of a supermarket.
She removed several items from her cart and put
them on the conveyor belt that led to the cashier.
The cashier noted their prices and passed the items
along to be bagged. A perfectly ordinary process, but
one of the items entered and passed along was an
empty wrapper. The cashier realized that the
wrapper was empty, but charged for it anyway. Why?
