10. Vance Stevens - I teach EFL at the UAE Air College in Al Ain,
UAE, but that’s just my day job. I've been involved in online
learning since way last century, as founder of a movement that
became Webheads in Action, still a robust community. I have
been a coordinator of the TESOL / CALL-IS Electronic Village
Online for almost 15 years and have moderated several 5-week
online sessions there ranging from Multiliteracies and MOOCs to
Minecraft. In 2010 I started a weekly webinar series called
Learning2gether. Learning2gether provides weekly opportunities
for educators to share their expertise online, but it also
inventories and archives a microcosm of what is going on at any
given moment in the universe of online professional
development, which is what informs my MMVC16 presentation.
11. Julie Pratten is originally from the UK, currently living in Turkey. After teaching both
business and general English in 20 countries or more, including Brazil, Germany,
Lithuania and Paraguay, she entered the world of finance via the Czech Republic, where
she designed Banking English courses for the Czech National Bank. She is the author
of several business and finance titles, including ‘Absolute Financial English’, ‘Absolute
Financial English’ (Delta) and Pocket Book of Business English.
Although Julie lives in a rural setting, with her husband, two cats, a dog and chickens,
just a stone’s throw away from the sea, she likes to get on the road and meet like-
minded people. Her interests include developing mobile applications for EAP; last year
she developed ‘Brighton Study Kit’ and ‘Academic Flip Words’. She also set up the Indie
publishing company ‘Academic Study Kit’ and was joint winner of the David Riley award
for Innovation with ‘AZ of Business English’. The same year, Julie established Heart
ELT, a non-profit organisation that supports children who have little or no access to
education by producing crowdsourced books. Heart ELT’s first publication ‘Hope Peace
Respect’ by Fluency MC contains the lyrics to Jason R.Levine’s amazing rap songs.
Nowadays Julie is working on ‘The Mission Possible’, a modular, crowdsourced course
that focuses on sustainable business. Julie is currently trying to get to grips with online
courses, writing teacher-to-writer programs and planning writer retreats for ELT. She is
very excited about writing her first story book, called ‘The Peace Plan’ with Julia G. Fox
of Clever Fox Press.
