2. ISOTOPES
Isotope is a group of nuclides that own sum of proton is same but
sum of neutron is different.
Examples:
• Isotope : 4Be7 ; 4Be9 ; 4Be10
• Isotope : 12Mg24 ; 12Mg25 ; 12Mg26
• Isotope : 20Ca40 ; 20Ca41 ; 20Ca42 ; 20Ca43 ; 20Ca44 ; 20Ca45 ; 20Ca46 ; 20Ca47 ;
20Ca48
• Isotope : 38Sr82 ; 38Sr83 ; 38Sr84 ; 38Sr85 ; 38Sr86 ; 38Sr87 ; 38Sr88 ; 38Sr89 ;
38Sr90
• Isotope : 56Ba130 ; 56Ba132 ; 56Ba133 ; 56Ba134 ; 56Ba135 ; 56Ba136 ; 56Ba137 ;
56Ba138
3. ISOTONES
Isoton is a group of nuclides that has sum
of neutron is same but sum of proton is
different.
• Examples : 31 P15 with 32 C 16
4. ISOBARS
Isobar is a group of nuclides that has sum of
proton and neutron are same but sum of each
proton and neutron is different.
• Examples : 12C6 with 12 C 7
5. EXERCISES
Isotope : 4Be7 ; 4Be9 ; 4Be10
1. What the element is isobar for 4Be7 ?
2. What the element is isoton for 4Be10?
6. ANSWER :
1. 4Be7
Isobar of 4Be7 are 3Li7
2. 4Be10
isotone for 4Be10 are 6C12
7. EXERCISES
Nitrogen nuclide has 3 isotope : 7N12 ;7N14 ; 7N16
1. Why 7N12 ;7N14 ; 7N16 are called isotopes??
Explain !
2. Mention isobars for 7N16 !
3. Mention isoton for 7N12 !
8. Answer :
1. Because their sum of proton are same but
sum of neutron are different
2. 7N16 isobars to 8O16
3. 7N12 isotons to 4 Be9
