Coastal Bangladesh climate policy implementation

Experts on Saturday stressed the need of undertaking policy implementation along with
integrated projects implementation to help save coastal areas of Bangladesh from climate change
effects.
Besides, they underscored the issues like natural vulnerability and disasters, mass migration from
coastal area, lack of alternative employment, mitigation of increasing water salinity, socio-
cultural-economic shifts, Dilemma of safe drinking water, agricultural security and safety.
They have suggested necessary preservation of forests and safe vegetation, bio-diversity
preservation, water body management, sustainable boarder management among neighbors as
well as strong government-private collaboration to the stewardship of the nature with a balanced
blend of technology and human interactivity.
They made the call in a round table discussion titled as “Coupled Human-Natural Interactions:
Environmental and Social Changes in South-West Bangladesh” at city’s Bangladesh Institute of
Planners (BIP) auditorium organized by with joint collaboration of Vanderbilt University of
Usated States of Amirica, University of Dhaka (DU), Khulna University (KU), Khulna
University Planners’ alumni (KUPA), Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP).

of five year research findings through key note papers conducted by Vanderbilt
University of USA in the south-western part of the country to help cope with climate
change issues in the low income country like us.
