multi-tasked through a couple sessions).
LOVE the support from Thomas !!”

The UW System is made up of 13 4 year campuses, 13 2 year campuses which make up the UW Colleges and the statewide UW Extension. The UW System Learning Technology Development Council (LTDC) is made up of Learning Tech professionals from all of the 15 institutions sharing pedagogical best practices for incorporating learning technology to increase student learning and productivity. For many years, <click> the LTDC held annual showcases in each of 4 regions.
These were always face-to-face held on one of the campuses in the region drawing faculty and staff participation from that region. <click>
In 2013, one of the regional showcases went virtual because the showcase planning committee chair wasn’t located on one of the campuses within that region. She worked for UW-Extension and knew that Extension could support a virtual showcase technically as long as the right people were involved. <click>
These were the right people!
Once the committee was formed it was time to figure out timing, logistics, and theme.
Even though this was one of the regional showcases that year, the planning committee decided to call it the UW System Virtual Showcase – We were hoping that it would be the first of many.
One day, two keynote speakers and six concurrent sessions featuring faculty and staff from the South East region. <click> It was held in April 2013 via Blackboard Collaborate with support from UW Extension’s Instructional Communications Systems unit. <click>
Here are some stats from that day:
25-45 live attendees at each session <click>
Participants included a mix of faculty, instructional technology and instruction design specialists mostly from Wisconsin, but a few outside of Wisconsin attended live, too <click>
All participants surveyed would attend a virtual conference again. <click>
Cost was about $2500 (half of the budget for a face-to-face regional showcase)<click>
Here is a selection of Patricia McGee’s keynote session in which she shares her wisdom about creating quality blended educational opportunities…<click>
Later that month, the LTDC decided, based on the success of the Virtual Showcase that the regional showcases would now consolidated to one state-wide virtual showcase in 2014.
Some of the committee members stayed on the committee and even more members were recruited. This team met a bajillion times to work out timing, logistics and more building on the experiences of the regional virtual showcase. <click>
In 2014, the showcase was expanded to two days, 28 concurrent sessions were grouped into 6 broad topic themes <click>

Some stats from 2014:
100% University of Wisconsin System institutions participation as presenters and/or moderators)<click>
250 pre-registered <click>
There were between 20-80 live participants per session <click>
There were less than 5 technical issues known by the planning chairperson and they included VoIP vs. teleconference, recording not available <click>
The total cost was $5,750.00 ( the total budget of face-to-face regional showcases was $20, 000) <click>
100% planning committee members still employed by UWS are willing to plan the 2015 Showcase <click>
We were on a roll! We now had two years of success and were ready to expand even more for 2015. <click>
The committee was enlarged and a new chairperson took over.
The 2015 Virtual Showcase kept the two day/two keynote speaker format. The showcase website was now incorporated into the UW-System LTDC website rather than an external site. <click>
Breakout sessions from all UW System institutions were presented in the six topic areas. The call for proposals was so successful that the planning committee decided to add another time slot for each day for an additional breakout sessions beyond 2014 for a total of 38. Here is a taste of Curt Bonk’s keynote presentation challenging us to think about the monumental shift in education delivery and availability: <click>

Some stats from 2015:
Total session attendance of 834 <click>
218 unique attendees <click>
44% of attendees watched one session. 32% watched 2-4 sessions. 23% watched 5 or more sessions. <click>
Median session attendance: 18
Highest session attendance: 77
Lowest session attendance: 5<click>
