Finding new connections with othersReach new audiencesPagesGroupsEvent announcements
Use different names for work and home (perhaps use your nickname for home use)Combined accounts mix work and after-work – may find new connections with co-workers and friends (use the example of Ryan Schmessing, national 4-h looking for autism researchers)Fan page advantages: no automatic connection to your personal site, multiple admins, updates automatically fed to your “fans”Groups: connected to your personal FB page, can be private. No auto updates, tho
Profile/newsfeedEntry into Facebook (newsfeed)Like a homepage for FB about you (profile)Can create more than one (use different email addresses/name) –against FB rulesNeed to friend people (limit 5000)A profile is needed for creating other types of FB sites
Facebook Page TourThis is the view of an admin. You should have at least 2 admins for each page. The more, the merrier. Click 1 – only other admins can see the list of admins for a page (this list are links to personal profiles)Click 2 – the wall: just like your profile wall – admins can add status updates, links, photos, questions (poll), etc. By default, fans can add content as well (in addition to liking and commenting status posts)Click 3 – Info –go to next slide
As an admin, click edit page to fill in the blanks for basic information about the page. Be sure to add a link to a corresponding webpage, if you have one. Next page
All CES Facebook pages should have this text included in their General Info.
Facebook Page TourClick 1 – the number of fans this page currently has. You can create a custom URL once you have 25 Likes/fans. Facebook group tourMany of same features as profiles and pages (wall, posts, events, etc.) A group is linked to your personal profile and you interact with it as you (not your page). Best for small group interaction.Click 1 – Type of group: closed (anyone can see the group, but only members see messages), secret (only invited members can see the group), open (public, anyone can find and join)Click 2 – Email list (especially good for group members who don’t use Facebook very often)Click 3 – depending on settings, any member can add more members from their own friends listClick 4 – Group chat with members who are onlineClick 5 – Create a doc – like notes in personal profiles – used for longer messages.
In addition to an admin having the ability to suggest to friends, fans can Share the page on their personal profile wall.Online book club or other giveawaysEmail signature filesLink from websites, FYI, or County pages
