Michael Wiles is an experienced actor and
director who has been in the industry since the
last 1990s. After graduating from Cornish
College of the Arts, he moved to Los Angeles
where he had a chance to build a career that
would include playing various leading roles.
Seeing the process with his own eyes and
experiencing it from both sides allowed him to
develop a highly relevant image on what a
good actor should look like:
 Ability to capture the audience
An actor should be able to capture the audience
based on their talents. They need to possess a
certain combination of flair and conviction that
really leaves the audience without any kind of
chance.
 Confidence
An actor needs to be confident, but that does not
mean that they have to look confident.
Whatever the role requires them to do, they

Qualities Of A Good Actor
 Empathy
A great actor is an emphatic actor who experienced
the highs and the lows just like any other human
beings. The richer their personal history and the
wider the spectrum of their feelings are, the better
they will be on the stage.
 Physicality
Certain roles require a kind of physicality that cannot
be replaced with anything else, an actor simply
has it or they do not. Physical fitness is a big part
of that.
 Intelligence
Intelligence doesn’t necessarily mean being smart.
An actor does not have to be smart, but good
actors are almost always intelligent in a way, and
that is what allows them to develop their part in a
unique fashion.
 A Hard Worker
A good actor is willing to work on the craft whether
he or she is successful or not. This quality is
absolutely essential to bring the characters alive.
Michael Wiles has worked in the industry for more
than 20 years, and he hopes that he has at least the

Tips For Novice Actors
Michael Wiles has worked as an actor for a number of theatre
companies during his career. Getting into acting is often a
struggle for those who are new to the art and there are many
things that you will need to learn to stand the best chance of
finding success. The following tips should all prove very useful.
Learn To Take Rejection
A thick skin is essential if you are to find success as an actor, as it
is very rare for those who are new to the industry to achieve
success from the off. Understand that rejection is something you
are likely going to have to deal with on a regular basis and focus
on making improvements based on the feedback that you receive
during auditions.
Use Your Body
Your voice isn’t the only tool at your disposal, so it is important
that you learn how to properly use your body to convey emotions.
Have Fun
Actors who clearly enjoy their crafts and have enthusiasm are
more likely to catch the eye, so always remember what it is that
made you fall in love with acting when performing.

The Benefits Of Reading
When he is not busy with his work as a casting
director at a theatre company, Michael Wiles likes to
spend his spare time reading. There are a number of
benefits to the activity, not all of which are
immediately apparent, including all of the following.
Your Improve Your Own Writing
As you start to read more complex pieces of
literature, you will begin to understand narrative
structure and how to frame your own pieces.
Furthermore, you will also get inspired by good
authors, allowing you to figure out what they do to
engage their audiences, thus allowing for
improvements in your own writing.
Stress Relief
There are few things more relaxing than sitting down
with a good book and escaping to a different world
for a few hours. Reading allows you to focus your
mind on something other than the issues in your life,
which reduces stress and may even lend you a new
