1. Michael Wiles - A History
After some time building his reputation as an excellent theater actor in San
Francisco, Michael Wiles moved to Sacramento, where he works currently as a
casting director, musical director, and voice coach. He was recently featured in two
national advertisement campaigns, one for Yahoo! Sports, and the other for Foster’s
Beer. In only a few short months after he hit “bottom”, Wiles rose anew to finish his
studies, earn his BFA in acting, and move to San Francisco to start his successful
career as an actor. His professors and fellow students all doubted his ability, but
Wiles never did. His time at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle was some of
the hardest years of his life. He has worked for dozens of theater companies, put on
hundreds of shows, and captivated thousands of theater-goers in the process. His
immersion in the diverse plots and crises of humanity that the characters find
themselves in again and again in the pages of Shakespeare’s plays inspired him to
redouble his effort and finish his schooling strong. Michael Wiles brought his old,
worn-down copy of the complete works of Shakespeare with him to Seattle From
Helena, Montana where he is from, and studied the language, the characters, the
plots and the themes of some of the greatest plays ever written to find his way again.
Wiles now says that he would never have realized his potential if he hadn’t brought
his copy of the Complete Works of Shakespeare with him on his journey from Helena
to Seattle.
Michael Wiles says that only through dedicating himself to the best playwrights was
he able to get through acting school. Wiles looks forward to the future as a still-rising
actor. He knows he is no Shakespeare, but everyone could use inspiration and
encouragement, no matter where it comes from. He tries to inspire up-and-coming
actors the way that Shakespeare inspired him. Since he moved to San Francisco in
1999, Wiles has built a long career from his acting skills he honed under duress in
Seattle at the Cornish College of the Arts. Wiles says that he was originally inspired
to become an actor because of Shakespeare and that only by re-reading his
complete works was he able to finish school. Instead of giving up, which he says he
considered, he found solace in the works of one of the greatest writers of the past
four hundred years: William Shakespeare.
