As population around the world continue to grow and
health care becomes more widely available, people are
living longer than before.
The percentage of the global population that is 65 or
older will double from 10% to 20% by 2050
However, living longer doesn’t mean they will
continuously live healthier. Many will suffer chronic
diseases and memory loss issues.

Healthcare costs keep on increasing. Costly time and
money due to frequent visitations. Hospitals and elderly care
centers unable to cope with the number of elderly people.
Thus, the trend is now about “Aging in Place” where elderly
will live at home either with family members or alone.
How do we ensure the elderly people live
alone with a healthy life, safe and secure
but with constant supervision?
How do we let them “Live Alone But Not Left
Alone”?

More than 1,300 elderly people go missing
in China every day -- 500,000 per year
Senior citizens aged 65 or over account for
up to 80% of missing elderly person cases
Around 25% of those missing had been
diagnosed with Alzheimer's or dementia,
while 72% suffered some sort of memory
impairment
Of those who were found after being
reported missing, 25% then went missing
again

China’s Aging Population Issues
China’s one-child policy, launched in the
1970s to keep a lid on population growth,
has led to a major change in the proportion
of older people and younger people in
China.
About 11.9 % of young people had not
visited their parents in years while 33.4 %
saw them just once a year.

The new law says those children who do not live
with their parents must visit or at least “greet them
frequently”. If the offspring do not obey this
clause, parents can apply for mediation, or bring
a case against their children to court.

Demographic Time Bomb
• Many seniors whose children have died or moved away are left
without a network of care.
• The problem is particularly bad in rural areas and small cities
because younger populations typically migrate to big cities.
• Millions of people are expected to leave the workforce in the
next three decades.
• Healthcare costs go up by 2030.

Elderly Living Alone?
• No adult son or daughter
wants to admit that a parent --
who provided life, nurturing
and help to the child for so
many years -- is now in need
of care that simply can't be
provided in return.

• Stairways, serpentine hallways,
slippery tile and tall shelving units
present potentially dangerous
obstacles that must be negotiated
daily.
• Also, large yards with uneven terrain,
poorly lit rooms or small bathrooms in
the home of an aging loved one may
give family members good reason for
pause.

Alzheimer
and Dementia
• It creates havoc in the lives of those afflicted
• Will lose the ability to speak, walk and swallow. It is a
progressive and fatal disease.
• In the early stages, a person has difficulty processing
information, remembering simple items or tasks, and
concentrating.
• Even in the early stages, a momentary absence of thought can
be disastrous while driving, working around the house or
taking daily medications.

Depression
• It also adversely affects the immune system, making a
depressed person that much more susceptible to further
physical ailments.
• Also, depressed seniors may withdraw into a cocoon of
isolation, making it next to impossible for others to reach out to
them or just lend an ear.
• Nobody should be left in this type of environment.

Burden on
Family
• Families all over the world are juggling children, jobs and aging parents in an effort
to "take care of their own." There can come a point, though, when the demands
created by caring for an aging parent outweigh the logistical, financial or emotional
resources available.
• It's not uncommon for people to feel they're abandoning a family member or "getting
rid" of the problem. Sometimes, these feelings are exacerbated by an older
person's shared belief that he or she is being put out of sight and out of mind.

• It's a common proud refrain repeated by young children to their
peers: "My dad is stronger than your dad." Or, "My mom is
prettier than your mom."
• Of course, as children grow, they start noticing mom and dad's
flaws.
