Polling ended in Delhi at 5pm on May 7th, 2009 after 10 hours of voting for the 7 Lok Sabha seats. Approximately 11 million people were eligible to vote at over 11,000 polling booths. Turnout was nearly 40% by 3pm. The election was largely peaceful with no reported incidents of violence. Voting was between the main parties of Congress and BJP with a total of 160 candidates competing, up from 129 in 2004.
