Analysis Of Talking At The Gates By James Baldwin
" Talking at the Gates: A Life of James Baldwin" is connected to history in many ways. One way for
sure is because James Baldwin was one of many African American influential writers who grew up
in America. He also grew up around the time the Great Depression was going on and the Harlem
Renaissance. This story is connected to history because at this point of time in the United States,
there was so much racism going and a lot of white supremacy groups trying their best to make
blacks seem inferior. James Baldwin was one of those African American males who beat the odds
and was successful before his death. The first section of the book was "No Story, Ma" was pretty
much about Baldwin's early childhood. According to the book James Baldwin was born August 2,
1924 at Harlem Hospital. James Campbell put in the book that James Baldwin said in an interview "
I never had a childhood" which meant to Baldwin he never had a father. When his mother married
David Baldwin, she changed his last name to Baldwin as well. In the book it says that Baldwin
thought his stepfather treated him differently from his biological children. James Campbell included
that he was always harsh on James Baldwin. This part also tells how much David Baldwin resent the
whites and prayed that God would punish them somehow for revenge. David Baldwin died a little
over 80 while his wife ( James Baldwin's mother) was pregnant with their ninth child. From the
three schools James attended he was remembered for

Budget Proposal
The Department of Public Safety budget proposal was presented by Director James Wright. After
providing a basic outline on what the department does, Wright asserted that they have been
experiencing recruitment issues with attracting individuals into the academy. As a consequence, they
have implemented several strategies to increase their outreach efforts through their official
recruitment video, their veterans recruitment initiative through job fairs, and the proposal of a new
applicant tracking software. This software program will allow applicants to apply for position(s)
using their mobile device, broadcast real time openings to their website, track the progress of each
recruit, and create reports that will allow the department to get ... Show more content on

He has been hearing concerns/objections from officers over having to purchase new uniforms when
they were content with their current ones. Assemblyman Edwards asked why the department didn't
simply give the officers the money directly and allow them to spend that money how they chose.
Speaker Frierson asked Wright to provide this information at a later date since this was not the
appropriate committee to bring up that particular

Examples Of Alienation In The Thin Red Line
For instance in James Jones's novel – The Thin Red Line (1962), the inhuman and brutal acts , such
as the disinterring of a Japanese corpse for fun, the extraction of their corpses' gold teeth, and the
summary execution of Japanese prisoners, all of these explore the idea that each soldier suffers the
emotional and physical predicament of war by himself. However, some readers will be grateful to an
author who has honestly attempted to tell the truth in his own artistic way. One such person was
Romain Gary who expressed his appreciation of the novel in his April 22, 1962, letter to Jones.
The Thin Red Line, the line between man and beast, so easily crossed, is a realistic fable, symbolic
without symbols, mythological and yet completely factual, a sort of Moby Dick without the white
whale, deeply philosophical without any philosophizing whatsoever. . . . The book belongs to that
vein of poetical realism which is the rarest and to me the most precious thing in the whole history of
the novel–, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wright has exposed the human predicaments of his individualism through his characters with their
sufferings that they underwent due to their color, as well as he exposed the reality by bringing out
the hidden pain of the blacks. The effects of alienation in a society can be noted through the novels
of Wright such as, Black Boy and Native Son. In the novel Black Boy, Richard Wright had a
constant feeling of alienation. Richard expresses his physical or emotional hunger, his
disagreements with injustice, or his unwillingness to conform, he always felt this way. Racism plays
a strong role in Wright's Black Boy, due to the fact that this thought was very popular in this time
period. Richard struggled to liberate himself from the alienation of white people and the working
system because it was strongly looked down upon by whites and

James Baldwin noticed that French intellectual life was not generally the concern of American
blacks and also noticed that Paris attracted artists, several black writers and jazz musicians. On the
first day James Baldwin ever set foot in Paris, Themistocles Hoetis, the founding editor of Zero
magazine was sitting next to Richard Wright. They later became friends and Baldwin called him "
the best African American writer in the world." James Baldwin wrote the book " Notes of a Native
Son" which rooted from Richard Wright's book " Native Son." In the third section " A Severe
Cross," James Baldwin said he will always consider himself as greatly privileged. Baldwin was
present at the first attempt to desegregate Southern schools, but he was only there to do his job, an
honest job of reporting. As Baldwin reflected on the 9 years he spent in Europe he noticed that the
America he left behind had changed. Baldwin's first stop was Charlotte, NC, where he gathered up
material for his essay " Fly in the Buttermilk." When he flew from Charlotte, NC to Atlanta he met
Martin Luther King Jr. From then on he went to Birmingham then Montgomery, where he decided to
investigate a town his first night there. Expanding to the fourth section of the book " Tear This

Charles Lindbergh Aviation History
The aviation history started in 1783 with an inedited public demonstration by the Montgolfier
brothers. They constructed the first lighter–than–air, a hot air balloon which brought new ideas in
the course of time ("Museum of Flight," 1965). In 1900, the first Zeppelin airship was built by
Ferdinand Zeppelin. After two years, an important person who would be noteworthy in the aviation
history would be born, named Charles Augustus Lindbergh. Lindbergh was an American man, who
turned fall in love by aviation since he was young. On May 20–21, 1927, with twenty–five years,
Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic Ocean alone and in a nonstop flight becoming famous
internationally. Thereby, Charles Augustus Lindbergh is considered the best, of all time, aviator to
cross the Atlantic Ocean. To understand the why Lindbergh turned the best aviator of all time, it is
necessary to know about his childhood and the events during his life. Lindbergh was born in Detroit,
Michigan, on February 4, 1902. His parents were Charles August Lindbergh, a ... Show more

how was the sensation felt by Charles Lindbergh when he arrived in Paris with The Spirit of St.
Louis "'Well, I made it', smiled Lindbergh, as the little white monoplane came to a halt in the middle
of the field and the first vanguard reached the plane. Lindbergh made a move to jump out. Twenty
hands reached for him and lifted him out as if he were a baby. Several thousands in a minute were
around the plane. Thousands more broke the barriers of iron, rails round the field, cheering wildly."
Here it is evident how people in Paris were wishing Lindbergh success in his journey. As an
American icon, Lindbergh was well received and contemplated for being the best aviator to cross

A Blessing By James Wright
In the poem "A Blessing" by James Wright written in 1963, self realization is the main theme. This
poem was written to really embrace a connection with nature. The refreshing aspect nature brings to
a human's life is calming and has a way of healing. The feelings that the two horses bring out in the
man are overwhelming. Beauty is something lacking from the life of the mysterious man who is
headed towards Rochester. Having been caught up in life the man is stuck always moving fast. He is
unable to stop and find beauty around him. He is headed towards a very developed setting and is
unaware that he craves something raw and peaceful. Rochester, Minnesota is a very typical busy
city, with loud cars hissing past and snobby people. When he is

A Comparison Between Elizabeth Bishop And James Wright

Professor Wojahn
Poetry ENGL 345
29 October 2017
First Paper: Elizabeth Bishop, James Wright comparison As masters of imagery, both Elizabeth
Bishop and James Wright composed vivid poetry as a road map to a significant closing. Bishop and
Wright often opted to dramatic gestures or statements at the closing of their poems rather than the
predictable expected metaphor. Use of dramatization leaves the reader with complete understanding
of the narrative's key message. Replacing the metaphorical ending to rather be embedded in the deep
imagery of their work.
In their days, Bishop and Wright lived as outsiders' due to the social norms during the mid 1900's. In

Bishop's "The Fish" and Wright's "A Blessing" are structured around metaphorical imagery to create
balance between beauty that is known and unknown. Both poems intentionally begin and end with
meticulous imagery for the reader to see through the story. Visionary insights of the speaker's
experience in each poem every step of the way builds the readers imagination.
The narrator of "The Fish" initially stresses to portray the fish as worn out comparing its skin to
"ancient wall–paper" (Bishop 11). When the narrator caught the "tremendous" (Bishop 1) fish she
observed he didn't fight, but his gills fought the struggle to strain the "terrible oxygen" (Bishop 23)
being in air. The narrator illustrates visually dense phrases when comparing the fish eye to her own
recognizing they are "larger than mine/ but shallower, and yellowed" (Bishop 35–36). Not a shift in
his eye then describes his iris as "seen through the lenses/ of old scratched isinglass" (Bishop 40).
Becomes an eye–opening moment for the speaker and even the boat, becoming a moment of
empathy and understanding. "I stared and stared/ and victory filled up/ the little rented boat,"
(Bishop 67) the vivid personification prepared the reader to understand the dramatic narrative.
Completing the image for the reader, "...everything/ was rainbow, rainbow, rainbow! / and I let the
fish go" (Bishop 74–75) Bishop's strong use of imagery and personification suggests the fish to hold

James Wright Case Summary
As you may aware, Mr. James Wright has done some unethical act due to the effort of increasing the
stockholder's equity. The purpose of the memo is to discuss about the ethical dilemma of James
Wright's plan. I will discuss about whether he has followed the IMA's principles or not. After that, I
will give you my opinion of the dilemma in this situation. In this case, the CFO of Butcher Block,
James Wright, has to face an ethical dilemma between whether to leave everything as it is and let the
company's stock fall due to the fact it has not reach its potential target or he can adjust the asset life
of some equipment and therefore pump the stockholder's equity to exceed the minimum targeted
earning per share. James did not follow the IMA Statement

Summary Of Linda Pastan, John Donne And James Wright
Force of Nature The heat rises, bringing a red hue to a once pale face. In the distance long blonde
hair blows erratically. She is a force of nature and one cannot help but admire as she rides out of
sight, leaving behind a weak shadow, that will never forget her. Linda Pastan, John Donne, and
James Wright; all renowned poets in their own right demonstrate the use of similar techniques to
establish the very different themes in the poems they bring to life. Pastan, famed for her use of
nostalgia in conventional poetry, John Donne for his use of religion , and James Wright for his
extensive imagery. In analysing "To a Daughter Leaving Home ," "At the Earth's Imagined
Corners," and, "A Blessing" by the respective author, a resemblance ... Show more content on

Consequently, Pastan's simple approach to poetry has allotted her a very defined place in any
household. Specifically, through the use of her own experiences Pastan is able to easily evoke
pathos from her reader by making her work easily understood. For example in, "To a Daughter
Leaving Home," Pastan is informal and follows no particular structure or rhyme. Paston's poetry is
self serving intended only as an outlet for her ordinary life; this poetic style has allowed for her
work to remain relevant through the years as the values she shares remain prevalent today. Her style
is personalized, not quite like any other, however the techniques she employs are similar to many
other poets.
Similarly, John Donne, also harnesses point of view to strengthen the theme of his poem,"At the
Earth's Imagined Corners. The poem itself is an apocalypse in itself, a combination of both disorder
and discernment; highlighted through the use of second person point of view. The poem itself begin
with a dark warning, ", arise From the death, you numberless infinities Of souls, and to your
scattered bodies go."(Arp 789) The use of second point of view immediately beckons wildy for the
reader's attention, by warning of the fate suffered by sinners. Donne's writings are extremely vivid
and clearly depict images of a foul hell on Earth for those that fail to repent of their sins. The poem
itself is intended to be a call to action, warning all of the inevitable end that is to come. The

The American Dream : The Wright Brothers And The Flying...
Have you ever wanted to soar through the air like a bird? Well, the Wright Brothers made it possible
with their flying machine. The two brothers were pioneers of aviation. Nowadays, airplanes are
everywhere; the world would be a completely different place without them. We wouldn't be able to
land on the moon, technology would not have advanced as fast, and the two brothers produced the
original piloted plane that was heavier–than–air in 1903 (Ryan). They are the greatest historical
figures of all time because they revolutionized transportation by making it safer and easier, they
started a new era of warfare, they allowed space travel to be possible, and they demonstrated the
American Dream. The Wright Brothers had an interesting life that led to the inspiration of their
inventions later on. On April 16, 1867, Milton was born in Millville, Indiana; Orville, his brother,
was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio (Ryan). Neither of them attended college, but this did
not diminish their intellectual abilities. Instead, they founded a print shop in 1889 and a bicycle shop
a few years later to make money for their family and themselves. These businesses helped fund their
aeronautical interests. They started off by making kites to observe the basics of flight (Reynolds 44).
After making enough money, they began to experiment with various contraptions that resembled the
German glider created by Otto Lilenthal and Octave Chanute. To help figure out how they would

The Boston Fbi Field Office Building
The room was filled with chatter and arguments. The mass murder that was happening in the states
of the New England region was the center of the discussion in the Boston FBI field office building.
Officer Alecia Harrison was sitting silently in the room while the roars of the others burdened her
ears. It was a late night and the agents were talking all at once about their opinions on the situation.
She sighed, looked around the room and shouted over the silence for everyone to be quiet. The
individuals in the room grew silent as they looked at the young woman who had just interrupted
their banter. "Listen, this isn't helping the situation. We need to come together and figure out a lead,"

She felt a chill run down her spine as she had a sense that someone was watching her from afar.
Slowly turning to look behind her, she looked out in the distance of the woods by her house. When
she felt certain that no one was there she proceeded the rest of the way to her front door.
The young woman opened up her door and immediately felt that sense of uneasiness again even
though her home was full of light. She could hear the water running in the bathroom and figured that
her boyfriend, James, was just taking his usual night shower. She went into the kitchen to get a
quick drink of water. As she drank the cool liquid she felt an immense feeling of relief. She
advanced toward the bathroom. She walked down the hallway heading towards the closed bathroom
door. Alecia felt a sense of panic and anxiety when she felt her foot become slightly submerged in a
liquid on the floor.
She flung the bathroom door open and felt her throat tighten at the scene. Her loving boyfriend was
laying in the bathtub clearly dead with the water overflowing over the sides of the tub. His eyes
were glazed over, looking almost made out of glass, and his skin had started to become discolored.
Letting out a guttural scream, she ran to the side of the tub and tried to lift him out. However, she
knew it was too late and he was too heavy for her to lift. She sunk to the wet floor with tears falling

A Trip To South Carolina Essay
We have now begun on our journey to South Carolina. I can't wait to arrive, though I am worried
about the travel there. When we first set out, father spoke with James, Elizabeth, and I. He finally
thought it was time to tell us about Lexington and Concord, I don't think he knows I know so much
about it already. Though he told us some things I was not aware of. He said that, even though the
colonists lost so many men they still considered the battle a victory. This confused and surprised me,
they thought this because they took a stand and upset King George the third. And turns out that these
two battles had started a revolutionary war! So the colonist are currently fighting for there freedom
from the British. I hope the colonists win this war, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole family was in tears, but we also knew we needed to continue on our way down south.
Mother was most upset, she just wanted to hold him one last time but I was afraid to let her.
Thinking it would make things worse, I refused to let her hold him. Then we held a makeshift funeral
we laid him in the hole we had dug last night. From there we all spoke out and said what he meant
to us and how we will miss him. Father then began filling in the whole. As he did so, we all had one
big group hug. It will take all of us time to move forward but we will get there. We now continue
our journey, leaving little ol' Will behind. He will be missed. Ok, so it has been days since I wrote
last. I know it might seem weird that I am not starting another, but I never officially ended this entry.
Anyway, I have been informed that we shall be arriving in South Carolina by nightfall. I am so
excited, mostly to see Emaline! Though I am afraid to spend time with her, due to my sickness. Who
knows if we will be allowed to get together, are parent might not let us. Though I am truly hoping
they can put money differences behind them. Miles, Alice, Ann, and Elizabeth were all running

My Beauty Of Life
As I walked into freshman year I was by no means expecting to lose connection with myself on the
way. I recall walking home after long days at school, absorbing my surroundings. Breathing in the
sweet air as the calm breeze hit my face. Thinking to myself that this walk home was the only time I
have anymore to just think and be myself. See I'm the type of person to go outside spending hours
sitting, doing absolutely nothing. Just to assimilate the beauty of life. Time, space, me, my spirit,
and my thoughts. At this moment there is no stress about the demand of getting excessive amounts
of work done and memorizing notes for the next text. Having six–hour days to come home, sit down

I am not saying going to school is a bad thing, but it shouldn't be organized in a way of
programming children. Disconnecting them from themselves; pulling them apart like string cheese.
Without peace within, you cannot accomplish peace outside. Gandhi once said, " If we want to reach
real peace in this world, we should start educating children." When he says this I don't envision he
means a classroom full of innocent children being programmed with math, reading, writing and the
sciences. How many students are actually going to benefit from knowing how to transform a
parabola? Yes, those things are important. However, a child's mental health overrules by far. When I
read that quote I see a classroom full of children playing, having fun, and learning to discover
themselves through making friendships. How can a child genuinely learn anything about themselves
and the earth they walk on if their little heads are constantly being crammed full of academics? They
can't, and this system is twisted. Through my experience, I would say high school is most guilty of
this corrupt system. Although, you can begin to watch it arise starting in elementary school. As I
move my way up the ladder into community college, I feel like I'm being allowed to slowly breathe
again. Although not yet entirely, the feeling of being trapped is fading away. Hopefully, my journey
will continue to present this freedom. Going to a larger 4–year university or college is not in my
main interest because I

Personal Narrative : My Best Friend
March 22, 2006, should have been a regular Wednesday for me. Me being in first grade, a regular
Wednesday was to wake up at 8 a.m. to my father turning on my lights, and spiritedly but
annoyingly singing, "Wake up, wake up!" Wincing at the light and my father's terrible voice, I was
always able to wake up in order to shut him up. However, the most memorable part of this day was
not during school but rather what happened later that day at home. It was my father's birthday. My
father was turning 33 and my mom had a little surprise for our family. To this day, I am not too sure
whether my father knew it was happening or not, but my mom walked in through the front door
holding a 10lb cream–colored standard poodle. My mom placed her on the dining room table; tail–
wagging, tongue out, and super energized. Standing there in awe due to pure shock and
astonishment, it was a moment I will always remember. I met my first true best–friend. It wasn't just
some friend though, this dog became my family. Chelsea was the smartest dog I knew, being able to
understand our commands (In Russian of course, as we spoke that at home) at the age of 2. I was
able to teach it hand commands, like raising my hand in front of me as if telling someone to stop,
which signaled sit. Lay down was me waving my hand down, as if petting a dog in a vertical
motion. Chelsea was a one of a kind dog to say the least, bringing joy and comfort to a growing
family. My dog perfectly fit the stereotype all poodles have.

Essay about A Blessing James Wright
In the poem "A Blessing," James Wright analyzes the relationship between human beings and nature
through the descriptive explanation of an encounter between his friend and himself and two Indian
horses. He shows that although we are able to relate and interact with the animals we don't have the
ability to join them or as Wright puts it: "break into blossom" (26–27). Wright uses imagery and
personification to describe the nature he witnesses as he escapes from the stress of human life. The
ponies in this poem are personified by comparing them to human beings, mainly through the
description of their emotions. This personification lessens the gap between the author and the horses
and separates him from civilization represented by the highways ... Show more content on

This point is proved further as "A light breezes moves [the author] to caress [the ponies] long ear"
(23), showing that nature itself is encouraging the merging of the two sides, because the wind
encourages the hand to pet the horses ear. Another simile is used to describe the horse's ear "as
delicate as the skin over a girl's wrist" (24), again blurring the line between human and nature.
Finally Wright comes to the realization that if he were "blessed" enough he would be able to step out
of his body and break into blossom, thus becoming a part of nature. But, he realizes that is past the
realm of reality and therefore cannot be done.
Wright examines the relationship of human being and nature using his descriptive language
including such devices as imagery and similes. Wright sees the idea of nature and humans joining as
one as a possible feat and he shows this though his written experience with these Indian ponies. He
initially shows the contrast of the two worlds, but they grow on each other and end up becoming
one. Wright sees the loneliness of the ponies, gains their affection, as the ponies are very
welcoming. He ultimately ends up wanting to join them by being able to "break into blossom" (26–
27), but he is unable to do so because he reached the maximum threshold of the union between
humans and nature. Which brings us back to the Wright is able to disregard the average day for
humans and take a day to appreciate the true value of nature in its

Analysis Of James Wright 's ' The Blues ' Essay
As Bryan Crable notes, Burke and Ellison had the closest intellectual and social relationship when
Burke was writing A Rhetoric of Motives–and, I would add, when Ellison was writing Invisible
Man. Crable points out that the Rhetoric is "the only one of Burke's books to cite Ellison," in large
part because Ellison's 1945 essay "Richard Wright's Blues" (which called Wright's just–released
memoir Black Boy "a nonwhite intellectual's statement of his relationship to western culture" that
illuminates a "conflicting pattern of identification and rejection" à la Joyce, Nehru, and
Dostoyevsky) had a major influence on Burke "only one month into serious work on his now–
canonical text" ("Blues" 263–64, Crable 47–48). The claim that the friendship was important for
both Burke and Ellison is certainly true, intervening in a longstanding scholarly conversation on the
Burkean influences apparent in Invisible Man (and other works of Ellison's) that paid little attention
to the ways in which Ellisonian ideas in fact inspired Burke's work as well. Even with this helpful
addition of Crable's, though, the scholarly consensus seems to suggest that Ellison employed Burke's
philosophies of literary form in his composition of Invisible Man, while Burke developed his
"thoughts on the rhetorical dimensions of race" based on Ellison's insights about the conflicts
between "individual identity" and "racial identity" (Crable 47–48). All of this is correct, but its
understanding of the Burke–Ellison

The Wright Brothers Essay
The Wright Brothers The world was changed on December 17, 1903 when Orville Wright flew the
first airplane for a period of 12 seconds. Orville, born in 1871 and his brother Wilbur, born in 1867
grew up in Dayton Ohio with two other brothers, Reuchlin and Lorin and one sister Katherine. They
grew up in a loving family, which helped the brothers with the success in their future. Many people
are not aware that much of their knowledge that went into the makings of the airplane came from
their mother Susan and the bicycle repair shop they owned. Interestingly, Wilbur and Orville were
not the men who first thought of flying. In the 16th century, Leonardo de Vinci had thoughts of a
"flying machine" that was ahead its time, though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for Orville, he did not enjoy or excel in school, as had his brother. He was an average student. He
was problematic, and his behavior caused him to drop out of high school in his junior year. He
developed aspirations to start a printing press firm. The brothers built their own press with cheap
parts, and used it to print their own newspaper as well as other printing jobs. Their attempt at the
firm was unsuccessful, so the boys bought a bicycle shop in 1893. This bike shop became a place
where much thinking and production towards aviation took place. The Wright Cycle shop opened in
1893. They made bike repairing their own business. After three years of this business they made
their own bikes called Van Cleves and St. Clairs. They moved their store 6 times before they
converted their store into machinery shop for their manufacturing business. The men of aviation
before the Wright brothers had little but significant impact on the process of building the airplane.
George Cayley lived in the late 1700's and early 1800's. He was one of the first men to understand
that "to fly is not to imitate the flapping wings of a bird but to use rigid wings." This was a very
important idea that proved to be true for the future. Europeans were at work to beat the Americans in
building the first heavier–than–air plane. Otto Lilienthal, a German engineer, experimented with
hang gliders. His main focus was on a fixed–wing glider not on a

the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12). Orville and Wilbur
Wright's journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges. They
encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet remained
determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping faith during
times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma they faced,
Orville and Wilbur's perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first brother to
encounter a curveball (or shall I say, a curve–puck?). After being badly injured in an ice hockey
game, he was unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale. His injury
brought about many negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at home,
educating himself by reading from his father's library, until eventually going into business with his
brother Orville. Originally, they operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed their
passion for mechanics and opened up a Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken handlebars
and pedals, they became inspired by the research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator. After hearing
of his death in a glider crash, Orville and Wilbur became determined to create the first powered
aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of

Realism, Naturalism, and Modernism
Ralph Waldo Ellison was an African American writer who won an eminence award for his first and
only published works during his lifetime, Invisible Man, in 1952. Born in 1914, Ellison grew up in
an impoverished neighborhood in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was encouraged by his parents to
succeed beyond what he grew up knowing, so they placed him in the best schools. In 1936, Ellison
later attended Tuskegee University on scholarship for music, but ultimately discontinued his studies
there and moved to New York City to study sculpture. While in New York he befriended the likes of
Richard Wright and Langston Hughes who encouraged Ellison to explore his talent of writing. The
encouragement paid off as Ellison would become a writer contributor to various periodicals; writing
essays, reviews and short stories. He also worked on the Federal Writer's Project from 1938 to 1942
and the took a gig as managing editor of The Negro Quarterly for a little under a year. Some of
Ralph Ellison's other notable literary works include that of Shadow and Act (1964), Going to the
Territory (1986), Flying Home and Other Stories (1996), and Juneteenth (1999) among others.
Ellison produced one of his best works known as Invisible Man that would later earn him the 1953
National Book Award for fiction following his service in World War II as a Merchant Marine. The
novel would take a length of seven years

We need to come together and figure out a lead,"
explained Alecia. "The only information we have is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She sunk to the wet floor with tears falling
from her eyes as she turned off

James Baldwin's Remember This House By James Baldwin
James baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic. His essays
were mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, mostly in mid–20th–
century America. Some of Baldwin's essays are book–length, for instance The Fire Next Time
(1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript,
Remember This House, was expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award–
nominated documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin was born
August 2, 1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century's greatest writers, Baldwin broke
new literary ground with the exploration of racial and social issues in his many works. He was
especially well known for his essays on the black experience in America.
Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She reportedly never
told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist minister named David Baldwin
when James was about three years old. Despite their strained relationship, he followed in his
stepfather's footsteps–who he always referred to as his father–during his early teen years. He served
as a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16.
Baldwin developed a passion for reading at an early age, and demonstrated a gift for writing during
his school years. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, where he worked on the
school's magazine

Descriptive Essay On The Curse
"The Curse Which Still Lived"
It was a depressing and grey afternoon. James had just turned twenty–five, and as adventurous as he
was, he anxiously waited for a task. Next thing he knew, he has found himself scrolling on an LED
screen which entranced him as if he knew nothing more. There he sat, alone in his dusty old room
looking through various websites for interesting locations near him. His fingers stopped with a jerk.
A picture of a castle intrigued him as he stared at the blinding screen. The location was on an island
north of Canada, only about an hour and a half from his hometown near Nunavut. Four words
caught his eyes underneath the section titled "Description". " The curse never dies," it wrote. This
didn't deter James in the slightest. The next morning James pulled himself out of bed and got ready.
The day was bright and warm with very few clouds in the sky; the fresh scents of summer filled his
nostrils as he prepared to embark on this adventure. For one hour and thirty minutes James drove
through the constant stretch of road until he reached something. It was a boat ramp, but something
was off. The ramp had been consumed by the elements of nature and time and floating near the ramp
was an old wooden paddle boat engraved with the words "Katherine Rogers" on the side. It seemed
to have been there only a couple weeks. James carefully boarded the small paddle boat and made his
way north, where at a distance, a island could be spotted with a castle–like structure

Racial Disparity in Native Son and Go Tell It on the Mountain
Racial Disparity in Native Son and Go Tell It on the Mountain Native Son and Go Tell It on the
Mountain are clearly social critiques of the black experience in conflicts with white dominated
society. They are powerful works of literature; media formulated to spark social awareness and
illuminate the racial disparity in American society. Both pieces present the necessity for change not
only in the African–American community but also in all of society in hopes to end racial prejudice
and inequality. Although Baldwin and Wright's messages of reform are similar, each presents
differing avenues for achieving that change. They deliver significantly opposing messages of
dealing with the rage that oppression and hate generates. James ... Show more content on

It is a message about changing the individual's heart before attempting to change others. Baldwin
saw that it was impossible to the overcome hate with more hate. It was his own belief that his
"…real life, was in danger, and not from anything other people might do but from the hatred
that [he] carried in [his] own heart." The choices are simple: either attempt to change the world or
change the individual. In Native Son, Bigger is so lost in his own rage that it allows him to commit
horrible crimes without remorse. It is not Richard Wright's intention to create a hero in Bigger
Thomas but a sympathetic character trapped by white society into committing his acts of violence.
Wright wants the reader to understand that in a world of injustice it may take that same injustice to
open people's narrow minds. Bigger and the society that he lives in, allots him few options for
progress. Like many in the "real" world, Bigger chooses to break through "white" structured choices
with violence. He finds an empowerment like never experienced. Similar to the work of Flannery
O'Connor, Bigger's violence is used to shock the characters of the story, the heart of the reader, and
ultimately society. To understand Wright's message of proactive change in the African–American
community, we can look at the creation of Bigger Thomas' psyche. He is a black male with limited

Essay on Richard Wright
Richard Wright
"Whenever I thought of the essential bleakness of black life in America, I knew that Negroes had
never been allowed to catch the full spirit of Western civilization, that they lived somehow in it but
not of it. And when I brooded upon the cultural barrenness of black life, I wondered if clean,
positive tenderness, love, honor, loyalty, and the capacity to remember were native with man. I
asked myself if these human qualities were not fostered, won, struggled and suffered for, preserved
in ritual from one generation to another." This passage written in Black Boy, the autobiography of

One book of particular interest to Richard was H.L. Menken's Book of Prefaces, it was a basis to a
majority of his own writings. Richard traveled around the country picking up odd jobs but these jobs
didn't meet his standards, they didn't exercise his abilities. Hence Richard decided to enter the
political arena. After being refused from both the Democratic and Republican parties.....Richard
entered the Communist party after hearing of there efforts to promote equality among races.
While in the Communist Party, Richard's writings began to have a direct influence on many people.
He was a leading contributor to the magazine and newspapers –"Daily Worker" and "New Masses"
which held very controversial beliefs for the time. His novels, Uncle Tom's Children (1938) and
Native Son (1940) were written while he was in the party. Richard was one of a few black men in
the Communist Party and it was because of him that many black American's began to look to the
Communist Party. Because of a lack of results and his outspoken militancy, Wright broke away from
the party in 1944. The essay, "The God that Failed", gives an oversight to why Richard disagreed
with the Communist party. According to the Communist Party, Richard was not writing about what
they wanted such as ways to come together and fight against others,he was reflecting the life of the
black American and the Communists found this to have little importance to what they were trying to
portray.

The Phases of Invisibility in Invisible Man
To be invisible is to be unable to be seen by anyone without artificial aid. The invisible man is more
impossible to locate than the proverbial needle in a haystack. In Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, the
main character, I., progresses through various phases of symbolic invisibility.
The story begins with I. recounting the various steps and incidents that led him to realize his

After the gentle assurances by Norton that he won't be reprimanded, Dr. Bledsoe, the president of
the University I. got a scholarship to, expels him from school. I. can't understand the betrayal by
Norton and attributes it to Bledsoe's misunderstanding. I. loved the university, thinking that it was
his ticket to move up in the world. But is was only a game, part of "the principle" to which everyone
adheres. I. places a lot of importance on his University education thinking, "[He] would never live
down [his] disgrace", "[His] white friends would be so disgusted. With these statements it is evident
that I. still isn't quite aware that he is running and still playing the game.
I.'s next major encounter with reality is when he is trying to acquire a job per Dr. Bledsoe's "letters
of recommendation". He becomes increasingly disheartened when he receives no response from the
friends of the school in charge of his fate. He gets punched in the face by reality when he meets Mr.
Emerson's son. The young Mr. Emerson is the first, since I.'s grandfather, to open his eyes to what's
really going on. When I. presents Emerson with his letter he learns why no one has responded to his
requests for a job. Emerson is one who doesn't believe in letting I. continue running he wants "help

told him of returning to the college, and the description of his failure. Not only this but

Richard Wright : The Son Of Nathan Wright And Ella Wilson
Richard Wright was born on at Rucker's Plantation on September 4, 1908, in Roxie, Mississippi.
Wright was the son of Nathan Wright and Ella Wilson. Although his parents were born free, his
grandparents we all slaves. Wright's grandparents were slaves, but both of his grandfathers served in
the Civil War and received freedom through their service in the war. At the young age of six,
Wright's father left the family and his mother, later on, became a paralytic because of a series of

Mississippi. Although he switched schools several times, he did end up with a diploma, "Schooled
in Jackson, Mississippi, Wright only managed to get a ninth–grade education, but he was a
voracious reader and showed early on that he had a gift with words. When he was 16, a short story
of his was published in a Southern African–American newspaper." (Biography.com Editors) Wright
decided to leave the South in 1927 and moved to Chicago. He first worked as a street sweeper, post

"I want my life to count for something," he told a friend. This shows us that Wright was motivated
not only by his longing to leave the racism and crap that he had to deal with in the south. But he also
wanted to make it better so that other black folk didn't have to go through the same thing. He had a
true desire to change they way society acted and it takes a true man to set of in this journey. But this
is also the reason Wright wrote, so that other people could see how his kind fair and that they really
are just the same as the white people. his first book was a book called black boy. Wright continued
to plow through books and write. He later joined the Federal Writers' Project, and in 1937, with
dreams of making it as a writer, he moved to New York City,A year after, Wright published Uncle
Tom's Children, a collection of four stories. The book proved to be a significant turning point in his
career. The stories earned him a $500 prize from Story magazine.
Some of the significant accomplishments of Richard Wright is simply that he is one of America's
greatest black writers, Richard Wright was also among the first African American writers to achieve

than with the superb quality of his work. That and he gained respect from many people in America.

Baby Driver Reflection
I was hesitant to watch "Baby Driver," despite liking the trailers and talent involved, because I have
yet to see a full Edgar Wright film. I've seen parts of "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz" and "Scott
Pilgrim vs. the World." I liked what I saw, but I wasn't sure I wanted to have my introduction to
Wright be his fifth film. Well, my willpower broke and I'm happier for it.
"Baby Driver" focuses on the eponymous Baby (Ansel Elgort), a getaway driver working for a
crime boss (the now disgraced Kevin Spacey). Things get more complicated when Baby meets
Debora (Lilly James), a waitress who steals his heart, and gets involved in a job with some volatile
coconspirators.
Of the several joys of this film, not the least of them is acting. That starts with Elgort, who is
impressive as Baby. He makes him someone we instantly like, with his cool demeanor and
infectious enthusiasm for music. We root for him right away, and that holds when we learn more
about him and Elgort convincingly portrays those depths.
As much as I liked Elgort, I probably liked James' work even more. She does a lot with little to work
with as Debora. Her character doesn't have much depth on the page, but James has a magnetic
screen presence. She nails each scene and makes you believe her character is a real person with
many dimensions, even though the movie doesn't really explore them.
For the supporting cast, Spacey is quite good as the crime boss Doc. He's got a menacing vibe about
his serious persona and,

Baby Driver Summary
In "Baby Driver," the director Edgar Wright had the intention to show a most entertaining time.
Edgar Howard Wright is an English director, screenwriter, producer, and actor born in 1974. Wright
has never classified as one of those filmmakers who you would expect to follow along the lines of
his past work, which include his comical genre rethink zombie flick, "Shaun of the Dead" and the
cop caper "Hot Fuzz". As a young teenager he started making short films with a Super 8 camera.
Continuing his early film career, after he won a Video 8 camera in a comic relief contest he decided
he wanted to get into the movies. A few movies and awards latter he now has the status of a top
director in cinematic arts. Well thought through, Wright remixes the movies and tunes that have
influenced him, into the widely joyous and fantastically entertaining "Baby Driver." A genre ride
with a rebuilt engine and a sick paint job, "Baby Driver" shows movement and sometimes stillness.
When you first see Baby that displays his handle, which suits Mr. Elgort who plays Baby. With his
angelic face and young man's lissomness he has control in the driver's seat, where he belongs. This
is how baby does things, with shifting gears, pumping feet and thumping tunes, and how Mr. Wright
rolls here as well. Excitingly the story illustrates Baby getting in and out of trouble while
discovering love and money. He does not have much of an inner life, but he has skills, a heavy
back–story and a kindly foster

How Does Richard Wright Encourage Police Brutality
Richard Wright was born after the Civil War but before the Civil Rights Movement. If Wright was
writing an autobiography, titled Black Boy(today in 2017) about a black boy growing up in the
United States, he would write about police brutality in the United States, the 1st African American
President, and how African American sports stars affected the nation. In the modern day, police
brutality still exists on the land of America, although it is now 49 years after the Civil Rights
Movement. Because of historical reasons, police brutality highly approached to African Americans,
who suffer from racism and segregation. According to Shaun King, "We should all be deeply
disturbed by the fact that an unarmed African–American man is an astounding seven times more
likely to be killed by American police than an unarmed white man." This shocking comparison
warns Richard Wright and us that inequality has not gone yet. It would also bring rage to Richard
since police brutality is an evil abuse of power and trust. To have the very people ... Show more

For example, Maverick Carter and the LeBron James Family Foundation combined to donate $2.5
million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian for a
Muhammad Ali exhibit. They wanted to keep the soul of standing up for social and racial justice
alive. A revered figure should be remembered and his spirit should be spread. Richard would be
proud of these sport superstars for what they have contributed to America. Michael Jordan is another
significant person in changing the American society. He is not only the first ever former player to
become a primary owner of an NBA franchise but also the NBA's only black principal/majority
owner. He makes people dream bigger dreams. Richard would write about these superstars and their
important action and contribution to the unity of all

James Baldwin's Life Explored in 'Talking at the Gates

  • 1. Analysis Of Talking At The Gates By James Baldwin " Talking at the Gates: A Life of James Baldwin" is connected to history in many ways. One way for sure is because James Baldwin was one of many African American influential writers who grew up in America. He also grew up around the time the Great Depression was going on and the Harlem Renaissance. This story is connected to history because at this point of time in the United States, there was so much racism going and a lot of white supremacy groups trying their best to make blacks seem inferior. James Baldwin was one of those African American males who beat the odds and was successful before his death. The first section of the book was "No Story, Ma" was pretty much about Baldwin's early childhood. According to the book James Baldwin was born August 2, 1924 at Harlem Hospital. James Campbell put in the book that James Baldwin said in an interview " I never had a childhood" which meant to Baldwin he never had a father. When his mother married David Baldwin, she changed his last name to Baldwin as well. In the book it says that Baldwin thought his stepfather treated him differently from his biological children. James Campbell included that he was always harsh on James Baldwin. This part also tells how much David Baldwin resent the whites and prayed that God would punish them somehow for revenge. David Baldwin died a little over 80 while his wife ( James Baldwin's mother) was pregnant with their ninth child. From the three schools James attended he was remembered for ... After providing a basic outline on what the department does, Wright asserted that they have been experiencing recruitment issues with attracting individuals into the academy. As a consequence, they have implemented several strategies to increase their outreach efforts through their official recruitment video, their veterans recruitment initiative through job fairs, and the proposal of a new applicant tracking software. This software program will allow applicants to apply for position(s) using their mobile device, broadcast real time openings to their website, track the progress of each recruit, and create reports that will allow the department to get ... • 5. Examples Of Alienation In The Thin Red Line For instance in James Jones's novel – The Thin Red Line (1962), the inhuman and brutal acts , such as the disinterring of a Japanese corpse for fun, the extraction of their corpses' gold teeth, and the summary execution of Japanese prisoners, all of these explore the idea that each soldier suffers the emotional and physical predicament of war by himself. However, some readers will be grateful to an author who has honestly attempted to tell the truth in his own artistic way. One such person was Romain Gary who expressed his appreciation of the novel in his April 22, 1962, letter to Jones. The Thin Red Line, the line between man and beast, so easily crossed, is a realistic fable, symbolic without symbols, mythological and yet completely factual, a sort of Moby Dick without the white whale, deeply philosophical without any philosophizing whatsoever. . . . The book belongs to that vein of poetical realism which is the rarest and to me the most precious thing in the whole history of the novel–, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wright has exposed the human predicaments of his individualism through his characters with their sufferings that they underwent due to their color, as well as he exposed the reality by bringing out the hidden pain of the blacks. The effects of alienation in a society can be noted through the novels of Wright such as, Black Boy and Native Son. In the novel Black Boy, Richard Wright had a constant feeling of alienation. Richard expresses his physical or emotional hunger, his disagreements with injustice, or his unwillingness to conform, he always felt this way. Racism plays a strong role in Wright's Black Boy, due to the fact that this thought was very popular in this time period. Richard struggled to liberate himself from the alienation of white people and the working system because it was strongly looked down upon by whites and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

James Baldwin noticed that French intellectual life was not generally the concern of American blacks and also noticed that Paris attracted artists, several black writers and jazz musicians. On the first day James Baldwin ever set foot in Paris, Themistocles Hoetis, the founding editor of Zero magazine was sitting next to Richard Wright. They later became friends and Baldwin called him " the best African American writer in the world." James Baldwin wrote the book " Notes of a Native Son" which rooted from Richard Wright's book " Native Son." In the third section " A Severe Cross," James Baldwin said he will always consider himself as greatly privileged. Baldwin was present at the first attempt to desegregate Southern schools, but he was only there to do his job, an honest job of reporting. As Baldwin reflected on the 9 years he spent in Europe he noticed that the America he left behind had changed. Baldwin's first stop was Charlotte, NC, where he gathered up material for his essay " Fly in the Buttermilk." When he flew from Charlotte, NC to Atlanta he met Martin Luther King Jr. From then on he went to Birmingham then Montgomery, where he decided to investigate a town his first night there. Expanding to the fourth section of the book " Tear This Building Down" started off being gregarious because his celebrity–rating rose. Baldwin and his clan became more trustworthy according to ... Thereby, Charles Augustus Lindbergh is considered the best, of all time, aviator to cross the Atlantic Ocean. • 11. A Blessing By James Wright In the poem "A Blessing" by James Wright written in 1963, self realization is the main theme. This poem was written to really embrace a connection with nature. The refreshing aspect nature brings to a human's life is calming and has a way of healing. The feelings that the two horses bring out in the man are overwhelming. Beauty is something lacking from the life of the mysterious man who is headed towards Rochester. Having been caught up in life the man is stuck always moving fast. He is unable to stop and find beauty around him. He is headed towards a very developed setting and is unaware that he craves something raw and peaceful. • 13. A Comparison Between Elizabeth Bishop And James Wright Sephora Solomon Professor Wojahn Poetry ENGL 345 29 October 2017 First Paper: Elizabeth Bishop, James Wright comparison As masters of imagery, both Elizabeth Bishop and James Wright composed vivid poetry as a road map to a significant closing. Bishop and Wright often opted to dramatic gestures or statements at the closing of their poems rather than the predictable expected metaphor. Use of dramatization leaves the reader with complete understanding of the narrative's key message. Replacing the metaphorical ending to rather be embedded in the deep imagery of their work. In their days, Bishop and Wright lived as outsiders' due to the social norms during the mid 1900's. In the mid 1900's, women barely had any rights and faced many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bishop's "The Fish" and Wright's "A Blessing" are structured around metaphorical imagery to create balance between beauty that is known and unknown. Both poems intentionally begin and end with meticulous imagery for the reader to see through the story. Visionary insights of the speaker's experience in each poem every step of the way builds the readers imagination. The narrator of "The Fish" initially stresses to portray the fish as worn out comparing its skin to "ancient wall–paper" (Bishop 11). When the narrator caught the "tremendous" (Bishop 1) fish she observed he didn't fight, but his gills fought the struggle to strain the "terrible oxygen" (Bishop 23) being in air. The narrator illustrates visually dense phrases when comparing the fish eye to her own recognizing they are "larger than mine/ but shallower, and yellowed" (Bishop 35–36). Not a shift in his eye then describes his iris as "seen through the lenses/ of old scratched isinglass" (Bishop 40). Becomes an eye–opening moment for the speaker and even the boat, becoming a moment of empathy and understanding. "I stared and stared/ and victory filled up/ the little rented boat," (Bishop 67) the vivid personification prepared the reader to understand the dramatic narrative. Completing the image for the reader, "...everything/ was rainbow, rainbow, rainbow! / and I let the fish go" (Bishop 74–75) Bishop's strong use of imagery and personification suggests the fish to hold a ... The purpose of the memo is to discuss about the ethical dilemma of James Wright's plan. I will discuss about whether he has followed the IMA's principles or not. After that, I will give you my opinion of the dilemma in this situation. In this case, the CFO of Butcher Block, James Wright, has to face an ethical dilemma between whether to leave everything as it is and let the company's stock fall due to the fact it has not reach its potential target or he can adjust the asset life of some equipment and therefore pump the stockholder's equity to exceed the minimum targeted earning per share. She is a force of nature and one cannot help but admire as she rides out of sight, leaving behind a weak shadow, that will never forget her. Linda Pastan, John Donne, and James Wright; all renowned poets in their own right demonstrate the use of similar techniques to establish the very different themes in the poems they bring to life. Pastan, famed for her use of nostalgia in conventional poetry, John Donne for his use of religion , and James Wright for his extensive imagery. Consequently, Pastan's simple approach to poetry has allotted her a very defined place in any household. Specifically, through the use of her own experiences Pastan is able to easily evoke pathos from her reader by making her work easily understood. For example in, "To a Daughter Leaving Home," Pastan is informal and follows no particular structure or rhyme. Paston's poetry is self serving intended only as an outlet for her ordinary life; this poetic style has allowed for her work to remain relevant through the years as the values she shares remain prevalent today. Her style is personalized, not quite like any other, however the techniques she employs are similar to many other poets. Similarly, John Donne, also harnesses point of view to strengthen the theme of his poem,"At the Earth's Imagined Corners. The poem itself is an apocalypse in itself, a combination of both disorder and discernment; highlighted through the use of second person point of view. The poem itself begin with a dark warning, ", arise From the death, you numberless infinities Of souls, and to your scattered bodies go."(Arp 789) The use of second point of view immediately beckons wildy for the reader's attention, by warning of the fate suffered by sinners. Donne's writings are extremely vivid and clearly depict images of a foul hell on Earth for those that fail to repent of their sins. • 19. The American Dream : The Wright Brothers And The Flying... Have you ever wanted to soar through the air like a bird? Well, the Wright Brothers made it possible with their flying machine. The two brothers were pioneers of aviation. Nowadays, airplanes are everywhere; the world would be a completely different place without them. We wouldn't be able to land on the moon, technology would not have advanced as fast, and the two brothers produced the original piloted plane that was heavier–than–air in 1903 (Ryan). They are the greatest historical figures of all time because they revolutionized transportation by making it safer and easier, they started a new era of warfare, they allowed space travel to be possible, and they demonstrated the American Dream. The Wright Brothers had an interesting life that led to the inspiration of their inventions later on. On April 16, 1867, Milton was born in Millville, Indiana; Orville, his brother, was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio (Ryan). Neither of them attended college, but this did not diminish their intellectual abilities. Instead, they founded a print shop in 1889 and a bicycle shop a few years later to make money for their family and themselves. These businesses helped fund their aeronautical interests. They started off by making kites to observe the basics of flight (Reynolds 44). After making enough money, they began to experiment with various contraptions that resembled the German glider created by Otto Lilenthal and Octave Chanute. • 23. A Trip To South Carolina Essay We have now begun on our journey to South Carolina. I can't wait to arrive, though I am worried about the travel there. When we first set out, father spoke with James, Elizabeth, and I. He finally thought it was time to tell us about Lexington and Concord, I don't think he knows I know so much about it already. Though he told us some things I was not aware of. He said that, even though the colonists lost so many men they still considered the battle a victory. This confused and surprised me, they thought this because they took a stand and upset King George the third. And turns out that these two battles had started a revolutionary war! I recall walking home after long days at school, absorbing my surroundings. Breathing in the sweet air as the calm breeze hit my face. Thinking to myself that this walk home was the only time I have anymore to just think and be myself. See I'm the type of person to go outside spending hours sitting, doing absolutely nothing. Just to assimilate the beauty of life. Time, space, me, my spirit, and my thoughts. At this moment there is no stress about the demand of getting excessive amounts of work done and memorizing notes for the next text. I am not saying going to school is a bad thing, but it shouldn't be organized in a way of programming children. Disconnecting them from themselves; pulling them apart like string cheese. Without peace within, you cannot accomplish peace outside. Gandhi once said, " If we want to reach real peace in this world, we should start educating children." When he says this I don't envision he means a classroom full of innocent children being programmed with math, reading, writing and the sciences. How many students are actually going to benefit from knowing how to transform a parabola? Yes, those things are important. However, a child's mental health overrules by far. When I read that quote I see a classroom full of children playing, having fun, and learning to discover themselves through making friendships. How can a child genuinely learn anything about themselves and the earth they walk on if their little heads are constantly being crammed full of academics? They can't, and this system is twisted. Through my experience, I would say high school is most guilty of this corrupt system. Although, you can begin to watch it arise starting in elementary school. As I move my way up the ladder into community college, I feel like I'm being allowed to slowly breathe again. Although not yet entirely, the feeling of being trapped is fading away. • 27. Personal Narrative : My Best Friend March 22, 2006, should have been a regular Wednesday for me. Me being in first grade, a regular Wednesday was to wake up at 8 a.m. to my father turning on my lights, and spiritedly but annoyingly singing, "Wake up, wake up!" Wincing at the light and my father's terrible voice, I was always able to wake up in order to shut him up. However, the most memorable part of this day was not during school but rather what happened later that day at home. It was my father's birthday. My father was turning 33 and my mom had a little surprise for our family. To this day, I am not too sure whether my father knew it was happening or not, but my mom walked in through the front door holding a 10lb cream–colored standard poodle. My mom placed her on the dining room table; tail– wagging, tongue out, and super energized. Standing there in awe due to pure shock and astonishment, it was a moment I will always remember. I met my first true best–friend. It wasn't just some friend though, this dog became my family. Chelsea was the smartest dog I knew, being able to understand our commands (In Russian of course, as we spoke that at home) at the age of 2. I was able to teach it hand commands, like raising my hand in front of me as if telling someone to stop, which signaled sit. • 29. Essay about A Blessing James Wright In the poem "A Blessing," James Wright analyzes the relationship between human beings and nature through the descriptive explanation of an encounter between his friend and himself and two Indian horses. He shows that although we are able to relate and interact with the animals we don't have the ability to join them or as Wright puts it: "break into blossom" (26–27). Wright uses imagery and personification to describe the nature he witnesses as he escapes from the stress of human life. The ponies in this poem are personified by comparing them to human beings, mainly through the description of their emotions. This personification lessens the gap between the author and the horses and separates him from civilization represented by the highways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This point is proved further as "A light breezes moves [the author] to caress [the ponies] long ear" (23), showing that nature itself is encouraging the merging of the two sides, because the wind encourages the hand to pet the horses ear. Another simile is used to describe the horse's ear "as delicate as the skin over a girl's wrist" (24), again blurring the line between human and nature. Finally Wright comes to the realization that if he were "blessed" enough he would be able to step out of his body and break into blossom, thus becoming a part of nature. But, he realizes that is past the realm of reality and therefore cannot be done. Wright examines the relationship of human being and nature using his descriptive language including such devices as imagery and similes. Wright sees the idea of nature and humans joining as one as a possible feat and he shows this though his written experience with these Indian ponies. He initially shows the contrast of the two worlds, but they grow on each other and end up becoming one. Wright sees the loneliness of the ponies, gains their affection, as the ponies are very welcoming. He ultimately ends up wanting to join them by being able to "break into blossom" (26– 27), but he is unable to do so because he reached the maximum threshold of the union between humans and nature. Which brings us back to the Wright is able to disregard the average day for humans and take a day to appreciate the true value of nature in its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Analysis Of James Wright 's ' The Blues ' Essay As Bryan Crable notes, Burke and Ellison had the closest intellectual and social relationship when Burke was writing A Rhetoric of Motives–and, I would add, when Ellison was writing Invisible Man. Crable points out that the Rhetoric is "the only one of Burke's books to cite Ellison," in large part because Ellison's 1945 essay "Richard Wright's Blues" (which called Wright's just–released memoir Black Boy "a nonwhite intellectual's statement of his relationship to western culture" that illuminates a "conflicting pattern of identification and rejection" à la Joyce, Nehru, and Dostoyevsky) had a major influence on Burke "only one month into serious work on his now– canonical text" ("Blues" 263–64, Crable 47–48). The claim that the friendship was important for both Burke and Ellison is certainly true, intervening in a longstanding scholarly conversation on the Burkean influences apparent in Invisible Man (and other works of Ellison's) that paid little attention to the ways in which Ellisonian ideas in fact inspired Burke's work as well. Even with this helpful addition of Crable's, though, the scholarly consensus seems to suggest that Ellison employed Burke's philosophies of literary form in his composition of Invisible Man, while Burke developed his "thoughts on the rhetorical dimensions of race" based on Ellison's insights about the conflicts between "individual identity" and "racial identity" (Crable 47–48). All of this is correct, but its understanding of the Burke–Ellison ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Wright Brothers Essay The Wright Brothers The world was changed on December 17, 1903 when Orville Wright flew the first airplane for a period of 12 seconds. Orville, born in 1871 and his brother Wilbur, born in 1867 grew up in Dayton Ohio with two other brothers, Reuchlin and Lorin and one sister Katherine. They grew up in a loving family, which helped the brothers with the success in their future. Many people are not aware that much of their knowledge that went into the makings of the airplane came from their mother Susan and the bicycle repair shop they owned. Interestingly, Wilbur and Orville were not the men who first thought of flying. In the 16th century, Leonardo de Vinci had thoughts of a "flying machine" that was ahead its time, though ... He was problematic, and his behavior caused him to drop out of high school in his junior year. He developed aspirations to start a printing press firm. The brothers built their own press with cheap parts, and used it to print their own newspaper as well as other printing jobs. Their attempt at the firm was unsuccessful, so the boys bought a bicycle shop in 1893. This bike shop became a place where much thinking and production towards aviation took place. The Wright Cycle shop opened in 1893. They made bike repairing their own business. After three years of this business they made their own bikes called Van Cleves and St. Clairs. They moved their store 6 times before they converted their store into machinery shop for their manufacturing business. The men of aviation before the Wright brothers had little but significant impact on the process of building the airplane. George Cayley lived in the late 1700's and early 1800's. He was one of the first men to understand that "to fly is not to imitate the flapping wings of a bird but to use rigid wings." This was a very important idea that proved to be true for the future. Europeans were at work to beat the Americans in building the first heavier–than–air plane. Otto Lilienthal, a German engineer, experimented with hang gliders. The Wright 's Journey Towards Becoming Famous Aviators "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him" (James 1:12). Orville and Wilbur Wright's journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges. They encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet remained determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping faith during times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma they faced, Orville and Wilbur's perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first brother to encounter a curveball (or shall I say, a curve–puck?). After being badly injured in an ice hockey game, he was unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale. His injury brought about many negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at home, educating himself by reading from his father's library, until eventually going into business with his brother Orville. Originally, they operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed their passion for mechanics and opened up a Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken handlebars and pedals, they became inspired by the research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator. After hearing of his death in a glider crash, Orville and Wilbur became determined to create the first powered aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His essays were mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, mostly in mid–20th– century America. Some of Baldwin's essays are book–length, for instance The Fire Next Time (1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript, Remember This House, was expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award– nominated documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin was born August 2, 1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century's greatest writers, Baldwin broke new literary ground with the exploration of racial and social issues in his many works. He was especially well known for his essays on the black experience in America. Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She reportedly never told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist minister named David Baldwin when James was about three years old. Despite their strained relationship, he followed in his stepfather's footsteps–who he always referred to as his father–during his early teen years. He served as a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16. • 49. Descriptive Essay On The Curse "The Curse Which Still Lived" It was a depressing and grey afternoon. James had just turned twenty–five, and as adventurous as he was, he anxiously waited for a task. Next thing he knew, he has found himself scrolling on an LED screen which entranced him as if he knew nothing more. There he sat, alone in his dusty old room looking through various websites for interesting locations near him. His fingers stopped with a jerk. A picture of a castle intrigued him as he stared at the blinding screen. The location was on an island north of Canada, only about an hour and a half from his hometown near Nunavut. Four words caught his eyes underneath the section titled "Description". " The curse never dies," it wrote. This didn't deter James in the slightest. The next morning James pulled himself out of bed and got ready. The day was bright and warm with very few clouds in the sky; the fresh scents of summer filled his nostrils as he prepared to embark on this adventure. For one hour and thirty minutes James drove through the constant stretch of road until he reached something. It was a boat ramp, but something was off. The ramp had been consumed by the elements of nature and time and floating near the ramp was an old wooden paddle boat engraved with the words "Katherine Rogers" on the side. Both pieces present the necessity for change not only in the African–American community but also in all of society in hopes to end racial prejudice and inequality. It is a message about changing the individual's heart before attempting to change others. Baldwin saw that it was impossible to the overcome hate with more hate. It was his own belief that his "…real life, was in danger, and not from anything other people might do but from the hatred that [he] carried in [his] own heart." The choices are simple: either attempt to change the world or change the individual. In Native Son, Bigger is so lost in his own rage that it allows him to commit horrible crimes without remorse. It is not Richard Wright's intention to create a hero in Bigger Thomas but a sympathetic character trapped by white society into committing his acts of violence. Wright wants the reader to understand that in a world of injustice it may take that same injustice to open people's narrow minds. Bigger and the society that he lives in, allots him few options for progress. Like many in the "real" world, Bigger chooses to break through "white" structured choices with violence. Richard traveled around the country picking up odd jobs but these jobs didn't meet his standards, they didn't exercise his abilities. Hence Richard decided to enter the political arena. After being refused from both the Democratic and Republican parties.....Richard entered the Communist party after hearing of there efforts to promote equality among races. While in the Communist Party, Richard's writings began to have a direct influence on many people. He was a leading contributor to the magazine and newspapers –"Daily Worker" and "New Masses" which held very controversial beliefs for the time. His novels, Uncle Tom's Children (1938) and Native Son (1940) were written while he was in the party. Richard was one of a few black men in the Communist Party and it was because of him that many black American's began to look to the Communist Party. Because of a lack of results and his outspoken militancy, Wright broke away from the party in 1944. The essay, "The God that Failed", gives an oversight to why Richard disagreed with the Communist party. According to the Communist Party, Richard was not writing about what they wanted such as ways to come together and fight against others,he was reflecting the life of the black American and the Communists found this to have little importance to what they were trying to portray. The invisible man is more impossible to locate than the proverbial needle in a haystack. In Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, the main character, I., progresses through various phases of symbolic invisibility. The story begins with I. recounting the various steps and incidents that led him to realize his invisibility. I.'s grandfather was a meek and humble man, and therefore surprised I. when he told him to "live with your head in the lion's mouth, overcome 'em with yeses, agree 'em to death and destruction." After the gentle assurances by Norton that he won't be reprimanded, Dr. Bledsoe, the president of the University I. got a scholarship to, expels him from school. I. can't understand the betrayal by Norton and attributes it to Bledsoe's misunderstanding. I. loved the university, thinking that it was his ticket to move up in the world. But is was only a game, part of "the principle" to which everyone adheres. I. places a lot of importance on his University education thinking, "[He] would never live down [his] disgrace", "[His] white friends would be so disgusted. With these statements it is evident that I. still isn't quite aware that he is running and still playing the game. I.'s next major encounter with reality is when he is trying to acquire a job per Dr. Bledsoe's "letters of recommendation". He becomes increasingly disheartened when he receives no response from the friends of the school in charge of his fate. He gets punched in the face by reality when he meets Mr. Emerson's son. The young Mr. Emerson is the first, since I.'s grandfather, to open his eyes to what's really going on. When I. presents Emerson with his letter he learns why no one has responded to his requests for a job. Emerson is one who doesn't believe in letting I. continue running he wants "help [him], but first must disillusion [him]". So I. gets to read the letter which explains the lies Bledsoe told him of returning to the college, and the description of his failure. Not only this but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He had a true desire to change they way society acted and it takes a true man to set of in this journey. • 71. Baby Driver Reflection I was hesitant to watch "Baby Driver," despite liking the trailers and talent involved, because I have yet to see a full Edgar Wright film. I've seen parts of "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World." I liked what I saw, but I wasn't sure I wanted to have my introduction to Wright be his fifth film. Well, my willpower broke and I'm happier for it. "Baby Driver" focuses on the eponymous Baby (Ansel Elgort), a getaway driver working for a crime boss (the now disgraced Kevin Spacey). Things get more complicated when Baby meets Debora (Lilly James), a waitress who steals his heart, and gets involved in a job with some volatile coconspirators. Of the several joys of this film, not the least of them is acting. That starts with Elgort, who is impressive as Baby. He makes him someone we instantly like, with his cool demeanor and infectious enthusiasm for music. We root for him right away, and that holds when we learn more about him and Elgort convincingly portrays those depths. As much as I liked Elgort, I probably liked James' work even more. She does a lot with little to work with as Debora. Her character doesn't have much depth on the page, but James has a magnetic screen presence. She nails each scene and makes you believe her character is a real person with many dimensions, even though the movie doesn't really explore them. For the supporting cast, Spacey is quite good as the crime boss Doc. He's got a menacing vibe about his serious persona and, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Baby Driver Summary In "Baby Driver," the director Edgar Wright had the intention to show a most entertaining time. Edgar Howard Wright is an English director, screenwriter, producer, and actor born in 1974. Wright has never classified as one of those filmmakers who you would expect to follow along the lines of his past work, which include his comical genre rethink zombie flick, "Shaun of the Dead" and the cop caper "Hot Fuzz". As a young teenager he started making short films with a Super 8 camera. Continuing his early film career, after he won a Video 8 camera in a comic relief contest he decided he wanted to get into the movies. A few movies and awards latter he now has the status of a top director in cinematic arts. Well thought through, Wright remixes the movies and tunes that have influenced him, into the widely joyous and fantastically entertaining "Baby Driver." A genre ride with a rebuilt engine and a sick paint job, "Baby Driver" shows movement and sometimes stillness. When you first see Baby that displays his handle, which suits Mr. Elgort who plays Baby. With his angelic face and young man's lissomness he has control in the driver's seat, where he belongs. This is how baby does things, with shifting gears, pumping feet and thumping tunes, and how Mr. Wright rolls here as well. Excitingly the story illustrates Baby getting in and out of trouble while discovering love and money. He does not have much of an inner life, but he has skills, a heavy back–story and a kindly foster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. How Does Richard Wright Encourage Police Brutality Richard Wright was born after the Civil War but before the Civil Rights Movement. If Wright was writing an autobiography, titled Black Boy(today in 2017) about a black boy growing up in the United States, he would write about police brutality in the United States, the 1st African American President, and how African American sports stars affected the nation. In the modern day, police brutality still exists on the land of America, although it is now 49 years after the Civil Rights Movement. Because of historical reasons, police brutality highly approached to African Americans, who suffer from racism and segregation. According to Shaun King, "We should all be deeply disturbed by the fact that an unarmed African–American man is an astounding seven times more likely to be killed by American police than an unarmed white man." This shocking comparison warns Richard Wright and us that inequality has not gone yet. It would also bring rage to Richard since police brutality is an evil abuse of power and trust.
