I've been writing guidelines or explaining how-to for years. I can't help it. I love the odd phrase "cognitive scaffolding" and I think that summarizes what I love to do - build the scaffold that helps people climb to a higher level of understanding and learning. I love learning myself and I like trying to encourage others to be on the lookout for new things to learn. This is the crucial part behind the dry titles of jobs over the years. After all, some don't know even know what a technical writer is or does. They do know what explaining and teaching and learning mean. That is where I am.
