Why we started with Notes? The Challenge Opportunity
In 2012 Gartner estimated that there were, world-wide, more than 200 million users of
the Lotus Notes/Domino platform. The majority of which (90%) run on multiple on-
premise servers. With the rise and rise of Cloud and mobile technologies Gartner
predict that around 1/3rd of those users will switch off these systems in the near future.
Gartner also estimate that those companies which switch have around 20
million applications developed in Notes – 10% of which are business critical.

In classifying Domino applications*, consider the following four criteria:
• Data-centric Applications primarily focus on collecting and sharing data. These applications are
classified as Easy to migrate because they require migration of data to an automatically defined
and generated Schema.
• Process-centric Applications that incorporate workflow or back-end connectivity to other
applications or databases. These applications are more difficult to migrate because the logic and
process must be both automatically and manually re-created to migrate the applications. Cimtrek
migrates these applications to around 80% functionality out of the box.
• Template-based Applications created from the default Lotus Domino templates that are installed
on a Domino server during the server installation.
• Custom Applications are either template-based applications that have been modified to contain
additional fields, or applications that were created from the "blank" template.
