10. “ecologías en red” /
“networked ecologies”
(Kazys Varnelis)
sistemas hipercomplejos producidos por la
tecnología, las leyes, las presiones políticas, los
deseos disciplinares, las restricciones ambientales
y una miríada de otras presiones, agregadas y con
mecanismos de retroalimentación
17. In his new book Cities Under Siege ... geographer Stephen
Graham explores "the extension of military ideas
of tracking, identification and targeting into
the quotidian spaces and circulations of
everyday life," including "dramatic attempts to
translate long-standing military dreams of high-tech
omniscience and rationality into the governance of urban
civil society." This is just part of a "deepening crossover
between urbanism and militarism," one that will only
become more pronounced, Graham fears, over time.

26. - No es sprawl. No es una ciudad difusa
- Incorpora áreas de sprawl y zonas difusas
27. ¿Ciudad expandida?
55. ¿Quién toma las decisiones sobre las infra-
estructuras y las info-estructuras?
2. Open source street.
In a sense, the entire street itself can now be thought of
as having an API, conveying its overall behaviour to the
world, each aspect of it increasingly beginning to
generate and recombine data.
61. 1) desarrrollar infraestructuras y
organizaciones ciudadanas hasta donde sea
posible (alcanzando la máxima escala de complejidad)
2) solo entonces discutir y negociar con políticos,
gestores e instituciones públicas para diseñar sistemas
de gobernanza que incorporen a la ciudadanía
63. Arquitectos como geógrafos,
politólogos y antropólogos:
> Comprender antes de actuar
> Etnografía como método de observación
> Geografía experimental / cartografía radical como
método de visibilización colaborativa
64. ... the most inspirational statement I have read in questioning my role as an
architect... This inspirational quote came from the least expected place ... by
General Petraeus... suggested to congress that after the experience in
Irak, the contemporary US soldier should transform... The contemporary
soldier should instead engage the critical proximity of neighborhoods,
transforming into an anthropologist, a social worker and versed in many
languages! Now, even though this can sound scary, I thought, if the
contemporary soldier is transforming why can’t we as architects… we
need to appropriate the procedures of the other… not
becoming necessarily anthropologists or social workers… but
borrowing their procedures so as to operate differently in
constructing critical observational research and alternative
spatial strategies… In my mind, this is the most fundamental meaning of
inter-disciplinarity: not only to share our points of view from the
sanctity of our specializations, across the round table of discussion, as we
usually do, but to actually contaminate each other with the alternative
procedures of each other”
Teddy Cruz
65. The bottom line is that no handbook relieves a professional counterinsurgent
from the personal obligation to study, internalize and interpret
the physical, human, informational and ideological setting in
which the conflict takes place. Conflict ethnography is key; to borrow
a literary term, there is no substitute for a “close reading” of the
environment. But it is a reading that resides in no book, but around you; in
the terrain, the people, their social and cultural institutions, the way they act
and think. You have to be a participant observer
David Kicullen

67. Trevor Plagen (2008)
The task of experimental
geography, then, is to seize the
opportunities that present
themselves in the spatial
practices of culture. To move
beyond critical reflection,
critique alone, and political
“attitudes,” into the realm of
practice. To experience with
creating new spaces, new
ways of being.
68. Arquitectura de la emancipación
> ¿es posible / necesaria una arquitectura que favorezca
la ciudad expandida y las prácticas ciudadanas
emergentes?
69. Arquitectura de la emancipación
> ¿diseño urbano, construcción, diseño de
sistemas de participación, visualización?
70. Arquitectura de la emancipación
> espacios e interfaces para facilitar procesos
emergentes desde la ciudadanía
