4. PRINTMAKING
• Generally speaking, there are four main
processes in the Tyler print shop
– Relief
– Intaglio
– Planographic (lithography)
– Stencil (screen printing)
• There a million different ways to work within
these processes and a million different results
5. RELIEF
• Ink is applied to the surface of a cut or
carved matrix, such as wood or linoleum
• Inked matrix is laid on top of paper and
rolled through press
• Carved image is transferred to paper
• Examples are woodcut/woodblock and
linocut
8. INTAGLIO
• Ink is applied below the surface of a matrix
in crevasse or grooves
• Excess ink wiped away, wet paper is laid
on top and rolled through press
• Grooved image is transferred to paper
• Exampled are etchings and engravings
13. SCREEN PRINTING
• Stencil is created on a mesh screen
• Ink is placed on screen and pulled through
stencil onto paper
• Stencil images is transfered
