The document discusses the optical phenomenon of rainbows and the colors that make them up. Rainbows are caused by sunlight refracting through water droplets in the atmosphere, creating an arc of color with red on the outer part and violet on the inner part. The colors that make up the visible light spectrum, from longest to shortest wavelength, are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The document then tells a story of the colors arguing about which is most important before a rainstorm brings them together, teaching them they each have value and are meant to live together in harmony.
1. Journey of Colors in a Rainbow Our “Friendship” http://www.slideshare.net/firelight1
2. Rainbows are optical illusions and meteorological phenomena that cause a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the Sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth‘s atmosphere. They take the form of a multicolored arc, with red on the outer part of the arch and violet on the inner section of the arch.
3. A rainbow is composed of the entire spectrum of colors of visible light, from the longest wavelength, red, to the shortest wavelength, violet. The order of colors in a rainbow from Sir Isaac Newton’s physics experiment are sevenfold Red , Orange , Yellow , Green , Blue , Indigo and Violet ( purple ). Rainbows can be caused by other forms of water than rain, including mist, spray, and dew. The rainbow's colors are like people thus no two are exactly alike.
4. Wavelength Spectrum of Colors Our eyes are sensitive to light which lies in a very small region of the electromagnetic spectrum labeled "visible light". This "visible light" corresponds to a wavelength range of 400 - 700 nanometers (nm) and a color range of violet through red. The human eye is not capable of "seeing" radiation with wavelengths outside the visible spectrum. The visible colors from shortest to longest wavelength are: violet, Indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Ultraviolet radiation has a shorter wavelength than the visible violet light. Infrared radiation has a longer wavelength than visible red light. The white light is a mixture of the colors of the visible spectrum. Black is a total absence of light.
5. Once upon a time.... The colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed they were the best, The most important, The most useful, The favorite.
6. GREEN Declared: Clearly I am the most important... I am the sign of life and of hope; I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die; Look over the countryside And you will see that I am in the majority.
7. BLUE interrupted, You only think about the earth, But consider the sky and the sea... It is the water that’s the sources of life And it is drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea; The sky gives space, peace & serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.
8. YELLOW chuckled, You are all so serious... I bring laughter, cheers, and warmth into the world, The sun, the moon and the stars are all yellow; Every time you look at a sunflower, The whole world starts to smile, Without me there would be no fun.
9. ORANGE started to blow her trumpet... I am the color of health and strength, I may be scarce, but I am precious For I serve the needs of human life, I carry the most important vitamins; Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangos I don't hang around all the time, But when I do, I fill the sky at sunrise & sunset, My beauty is so striking that no one gives Another thought to any of you..
10. RED Annoyed & irritated he shouted out... I am the ruler of all of you! I am blood...life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery, I am willing to fight for a cause, I bring fire into the blood; Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon, I am the color of passion and of love, The red rose, the poinsettia and the poppy.
11. Violet rose up to his full height, He was very tall and spoke with great pomp.. I am the color of royalty and power, Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me For I am the sign of authority and wisdom, People do not question me! They listen and obey.
12. INDIGO Finally spoke, Much more quietly then all the others, But with just as much determination... Think of me. I am the color of silence, You hardly notice me, But without me you all become superficial; I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water, You need me for balance and contrast, For prayer and inner peace.
13. And so the colors went on boasting, Each convinced of Its own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling Flash of bright lightning! Thunder rolled and boomed! Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear, Drawing close to one another for comfort.
14. In the midst of the clamor, RAIN began to speak... You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, Each trying to dominate the rest; Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another & come to me. Doing as they were told, the colors united & joined hands.
15. The RAIN continued, From now on, when it rains, Each of you will stretch across the sky In a great bow of color as a reminder That you can all live in peace The Rainbow is a sign of “ Friendship” hope and tomorrow. ~author unknown~
16. If kisses were water, I’d give you a sea If hugs were leaves, I’d give you a tree If life was a planet, I’d give you a galaxy If friendship is life, I will give you mine May our FRIENDSHIP never apart when It’s from the HEART! http://www.slideshare.net/firelight1
