4. Social Media:
• It provide platform for the people who have fear of face to face
communication to interact and share their views with others.
• Social media has improved the freedom of speech and expression
which resulted into change in society in a way that people now
criticize, express and share their own viewpoints with public
• Instead of political participation in social media most of the people
turned to be extremist and intolerant and started isolating and
segregating from society and even their own family

5. Academics and social interaction
It is more useful for the
university students as it
contain rich resources of
information which helped
them in making project,
assignments, making
presentations and helps them
prepare their exam not only
this it is helpful for them in
searching jobs and
employment opportunities.
But it has reduced
productivity as it made
people busy by using social
media pages and unable to
concentrate due to lot of
distraction.

7. Conclusion
• Its usage is increased to the extent that it cannot be avoided but several
measures could be taken like educating the use of internet to the teens
and students in a positive manner will help counter the adverse effects
of social media
• For example, during time of floods in 2010, it is the youth that provide
regular updates using social media to relief activities, rehabilitation of
the victims and needs of those affected

8. Recommendations:
• Policy should be made that is concerned only with social media or
proper implementation of the existing policy should be made.
• Awareness programs should be made in which parents, students and
teachers participate to monitor cost and benefits of social media.
• Youth too, can play a very important role in this regard by volunteering
activities, various gatherings
• There should be a ban on needless or unnecessary networking sites that
decrease usage of social networking sites.
• Students must be encouraged follow the positive aspects of social media
to stay focus on positive information.
