Boy’s Brigade Project

What is poverty?
 It is the state or condition of having little
    or no money, goods, or means of support;
    condition of being poor.

 The examples of poverty are : A person
whom has not enough money to pay a
    person’s bills.
What is poverty ?
 The World Bank estimated 1.29 billion
people were living in absolute poverty in
  2008.
 Of these, about 400 million people in
absolute poverty lived in India and 173
  million people in China.
 In fact, extreme poverty is a global
challenge; it is observed in all parts of the
  world, including the developed countries.
What is poverty?
 However, there are charitable sponsors
that help to reduce poverty .In this case ,
our presentation would be referring to a
charitable organisations as well . There
are alternative uses of helping the poor
 other than just charitable organisations.

 There
are at least three common ways to
 reduce poverty.
The three ways to reduce poverty
 These are the three ways to reduce poverty:

1. Increase the wages of low skill labor or
      government redistribution policies.
 The advice to get more education to avoid
being poor works for individuals, but since for
many jobs having a college education does
not increase your productivity it cannot be a
solution for everybody. There is also the
problem of people who are poor due to
mental or physical illness which can only be
     solved with subsidies
The three ways to reduce poverty
 Through this ,poorer people can feed the
family if they participate job skills ,to earn
 money

 Today, there are ways to reduce poverty
 ,when organisation is involved.

 The
organisation that we are going to talk
about is” FREE THE CHILDREN “
 organisation
What is “FREE THE CHILDREN” all about?(Part
1)
 About :“FREE THE CHILDREN” :

 Free The Children is an international charity
and youth movement founded in 1995 by
Craig Kielburger , a young Canadian man ,
that helps to prevent child labour and help
rural communities, such as Kenya , Asia etc.

 Their movement , which is the “ Adopt A
Village” helps to provide four components:
    education, health care, alternative income,
    and clean water and sanitation
.
What is “FREE THE CHILDREN” all
about?(PART 2)
 In fact, among other projects,” Adopt a
Village” builds schools and water wells,
  and provides medical treatment and
alternative income sources to people in
developing. (Based on Clean water and
  Sanitation)
 These projects are designed to address
the root causes of poverty and remove
the barriers to children’s education in the
  developing world.
What is “FREE THE CHILDREN” all about?
(Pictures)
 Here are just some pictures from “FREE THE
   CHILDREN” organisation .
Which are the countries that “FREE THE
CHILDREN” organisation is involved?
 These are the countries that are involved
in are: Sierra Leone, Kenya, China and Sri
  Lanka.
The result?
 The organization updated its website to show that
it has now built 650 schools and school rooms
which educate 55,000 children a day.

 In addition to the following , Free the Children has
also teamed up with Me to We, their partner
organization, to offer international volunteer trips
    for youth.

 They return with new perspectives and more
energy than ever before to be involved in raising
awareness and funds for overseas development
    projects through Free The Children.
“We Day” conference
 We Day is an annual "youth
  empowerment" event.
 Held in cities across Canada, We Day
motivates youth to take action on local
  and global issues.
 This annual event starts of as a year-long
  initiative encouraging students to
  participate in Free The Children’s
  campaigns, which raise awareness for
  local and international projects.
Summary
 Theremay be many social ,local and
global organisations or charities , however
we must understand that poverty cannot
be solved directly .All in all, we must be
 grateful for being fortunate.

 Wehave prepared a video , just to
summarise what we have learnt .
