1. Nowodays, many children and young people /students/ are
dreaming about a music career. It usually starts when they become
interested in karaoke or other music plays. Karaoke, a Japanese
tradition in which people can sing along recordings of instrumental
versions of popular songs, has become very popular in many
countries. The word ‘karaoke’ comes from ‘kara’ meaning ’empty’
and ‘oke’ which means ‘orchestra’. Some people would sing a lot of
songs, others only one; some are very good singers, while others are
out of tune, but everybody is applauded. In older karaoke bars, there
are several karaoke boxes, each of which is equipped with a karaoke
machine, screens and microphones. The boxes are usually available in
various sizes ranging from rooms for only two people up to large
party rooms. Food and drink can be ordered in most bars as well.
Nowodays home karaoke players are also popular, they can be even
downloaded from the Internet onto personal computers, so one can
turn his home into a personal karaoke bar.
I find it necessary to say that very often the way to becoming
famous or at least to achieve success is a hard and long-term effort.
For example, one may play the piano or the guitar very well, but if
they can’t read music, they cannot become a good musician. I know
personally seventeen-years-old students who have got similar
problems. Some of them are tone-deaf, others sing out of tune or
cannot tune up instruments, or something else. They told me about
their problems with career, and I would like to show you results of
my investigation on a diagram:

2. You can notice that there are a lot of reasons why one can
experience dificulties with starting a career in music , but all of them
are obstacles to top the charts and even are able to stop spreading
the wings. Apart from the information on possible origins of their
problems, I asked young musicians to answer several other
questions. I want to present the most interesting ones:
What do you need to do to become successful?
‘I think, there are three most important things: exercise, practise and
sleep eight hours every day.’
How do you cope with stage fright?
‘I don’t know, but I know that it is posible. You can either do it or you
may come back to clearing instruments of the others on the back
stage’

3. Do you have to sing in tune if you want to be a pianist?
‘I think so, because if you don’t, you won’t finish music school.’
When did you decide that you want to be a musician?
‘In 1972, it means when my parents were borned’
Do you regret your decision?
‘As far as I remember, no’
