3. Traffic Jam
• Traffic Jam is a condition on road networks that
occurs as use increases.
• It is characterized by slower speeds, longer trip
times, and increased vehicular queuing.
• It is a growing problem in many metropolitan
areas.
• Traffic jam is also known as traffic congestion or
traffic snarl-up.

7. The Causes of Traffic Jam:
The rapid growth of the population, so that the
number of cars is increasing annually.
There are more women drivers and younger
drivers today than in the past.
The increase in the number of trucks and
commercial vehicles. These vehicles move very
slowly, sometimes stopping to unload goods, and
blocking traffic.

8. The Effects of Traffic Jam:
Parking problems.
People difficult to park their cars especially in the city center.

9. More accidents.
Because people become frustrated or angry due to
the traffic jams.

10. Pollution in the city center worsens.
As a result of car emissions, and the city becomes a less
attractive place to live.

11. The Problem Solving of Traffic Jam:
Building a highway overpass to ease congestion
especially during peak time congestion.
Encourage a few of the people who want to drive during
those peak minutes to travel during a different part of the
day.
Raise toll rates and parking rates in order to minimize
vehicle users.
Raise taxes and levy taxes on routes crowded is the the
simplest way to reduce congestion.
Make regulations prohibiting driving with a passenger
less than 2 people
