2. Compare essay between TITANIC and POMPEII
Titanic, a well-known disaster filmfrom all over the world since 1997 after officially played
in all movie theater. It is a film that based on a true story of a ship named Titanic crash and sink
after colliding with an ice berg in the middle of the ocean. The next disaster film which will be
comparing is Pompeii. A historical disaster film played last year in 2014. The disaster happened
in this film was an eruption of a volcano called Mount Vesuvius during 79 AD in the country
Pompeii during Ancient Roman. There are several similarities in Titanic and Pompeii which can
be compare in term of the main characters, love story, the disaster and sad cases happened in
both films.
Jack was as the main male character of Titanic and Rose as the main female character in
Titanic. Jack was a poor gambler and a freely moving sketcher with an inconspicuous
background. He moves everywhere with no constant living place and he like to sketch things
that he saw. Fortunately he was given the talent to do it. Oppositely, Rose was in a very luxury
family background which surrounded by rich people and living in the world of money control
everything which Rose was not interested at all and trying to avoid it. Apparently in Pompeii,
Milo act as the main male character and Cassia as the main female character. Milo was grown
up to fight as a gladiator after his parents was killed by the roman’s army. He is a great fighter
that no one could ever beat him in single combat in the film. On the other side, Cassia was the
princess of Pompeii which was living in a lifestyle of being served well and able to afford
anything. But one thing that Cassia was uncomfortable about was her father’s kingdom was in
control of the roman government which brought plenty of problems to pressure her father.
In the filmof Titanic, Jack had felt in love with Rose and same goes to Rose too. Jack was
interested with Rose when he first saw her on the deck above him like an angel while he was
lying on a bench. The next scene James saw Rose was at the back part of the ship while Rose
was actually planning to abort the ship with the reason of being pressured by her surrounding
and James came up to save her and truly felt in love with her. Rose was touched by his action
and words spoken and also realize that James was the one she had been looking for. There
were many obstacles in their relationship but they both trusted each other and get together
until the end. In the other filmPompeii, Milo the gladiator and Cassia princess of Pompeii
shared similar kind of love story as James and Rose does. The first time they met was during
Cassia’s horse car stop because of the horse was injured and Milo was just beside. He decided
to help her and that was how they met and get interested with each other. At first Cassia
though that Milo was just a stranger she met as usual but she truly felt in love with him when
they met again in the palace when she brought Milo to calm her horse. Cassia saved his life
3. several times too when he was about to be killed. Their relationship was hard too because of
the appearance of Attius Corrus the government of Roman which wanted to marry Cassia.
Discuss about the disaster happened in Titanic, there were mistake made by those
controlling crew which were on duty. There were two sailor on the watch tower when the
incident happen. They were not concentrating, instead of duty properly, they were having fun
on the watch tower and found out that there was a huge ice berg right in front of the ship while
it was too late to discovered. They pulled over the ship and turn to their left as much as
possible to prevent collision on the ice berg but it was all too late and the ship happened to had
serious colliding with the ice berg on the bottom right side of the ship. Water started to flow in
rapidly and titanic start to sink from the front and cracked into half in the end and everything
sink into the ocean. Compare to Pompeii, when everyone was in the arena watching the
gladiators fight. Everyone was too focus on the battle and missed out that the arena was
actually cracking bit by bit. An earthquake came in sudden by the force of the volcano and the
eruption of the volcano came up right after. The earthquake had caused the whole arena
crashed and skies were all covered by volcanic ash.
Lastly, talking about the sad cases happened in Titanic. By the time of Titanic sinking,
everyone was panicked and pushing each other without mercy just to get on a rescue boat. As a
result of these happening, people fell into the dark cold sea and some even get killed by people
who carried a gun. Several hours after the ship sank, more than half of the people who did not
manage to get on any of the rescue boat died floating on the dark freezing sea. Only Rose and
not more than ten people were rescue from the hours of freezing period. In Pompeii, during the
eruption of volcano. Similarly the citizen happened to rush and pushing each other to leave the
arena and to get on boat too. No one cared about others just to save their own but that share
the same result as Titanic too which almost all died of the volcano eruption. Both Titanic and
Pompeii shows huge lost of life as an ending which considered a sad case.
As a conclusion, after comparing both filmTitanic and Pompeii for both of their main
characters, love story, the disaster and the sad cases. I figured out that both film shared most of
the same comparison in term of all the Thesis mentioned main characters, love story, the
disaster and the sad cases. . I personally likes both films a lot although Titanic was more famous
and interesting than Pompeii.
