2. 4.Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and
came to Samuel at Ramah,
5. and said to him, "Look, you are old, and your sons do
not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us
like all the nations."
6. But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, "Give
us a king to judge us." So Samuel prayed to the LORD.
7. And the LORD said to Samuel, "Heed the voice of the
people in all that they say to you; for they have not
rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should
not reign over them.
8. "According to all the works which they have done since
the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this
day; with which they have forsaken Me and served other
gods; so they are doing to you also.
9. "Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall
solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior
of the king who will reign over them."
3. Matthew 5:14-16
14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set
on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a
basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to
all who are in the house.
16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works and glorify your Father
in heaven.
4. 6 My people are destroyed for lack of
knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also will reject you from being priest
for Me;
Because you have forgotten the law of
your God,
I also will forget your children.

joined to Baal of Peor,
and the anger of the
Lord was aroused
against Israel.
13. 10 When all that generation had been gathered to their
fathers, another generation arose after them who did
not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for
Israel.
Israel’s Unfaithfulness
11 Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the
Lord, and served the Baals; 12 and they forsook the
Lord God of their fathers, who had brought them out
of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods
from among the gods of the people who were all
around them, and they bowed down to them; and they
provoked the Lord to anger. 13 They forsook the Lord
and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. 14 And the
anger of the Lord was hot against Israel. So He
delivered them into the hands of plunderers who
despoiled them; and He sold them into the hands of
their enemies all around, so that they could no longer
stand before their enemies.

passions. For even their women exchanged the
natural use for what is against nature.
27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural
use of the woman, burned in their lust for one
another, men with men committing what is
shameful, and receiving in themselves the
penalty of their error which was due.
